If you want a balanced build, you should still go full zerker and go 10/30/0/30/0 hammer. That will give you string DPS and permanent protection, which is pretty much the equivalent of having a full set of knights gear. You will outDPS your typical AH knight GS setup and have better defense stats to boot.
Id use 0/30/0/30/10 instead. Can take consecration cooldowns that way. Much more useful for the team and still doing decent dps.
Also… my mesmer is doing fine, i use it… i enjoy it, i do great damage with him… as advertised. I don’t know what is wrong ? Except shatter mesmers in fractals that still do no damage and die in 1 shot… Oh well…
Phantasm mesmers are whats viable in fractals and even support/full shatter mesmers are fine. You must just be unfortunate with the quality of mesmers you get in your groups.

If the cast time was increased it would be another ability i never use in a dps rotation for pve.
You guys are completely ignoring what the op is saying. All classes are viable. But warriors, guardians and mesmers are in such a strong position in pve. That means for any decent group with multiple alts to choose from they are always going to pick those classes. Mechanics need to be radically changed for the other classes to be on equal terms. Debuffing and condition damage is so kitten in pve and thats what the other classes do pretty well, therefore they are much less useful than a warrior/guardian/mesmer in the current dungeon environment.
Op is refering to the dungeon running meta because talking about casual is stupid and pointless. Everyone knows everything is viable in casual pve because its not hard to be slow and useless when playing casually.

Are you baiting? We have enough long cast time abilities we dont need another.
Scholar runes provide more dps than ruby orbs if you can stay above 90% hp for 24% of the fight. Which isnt too hard.
Depends if you have a group which gets you the might. Tbf even when pugging id go for the scholar runes. Blood is power + sigil of strength gives pretty good self sustained might without the need for duration runes.
I’d take CoF farming elitists over the Shout-Heal Warriors / Cleric’s Guardians / Condition Necros / GS Mesmers that I see in Arah every time I pug it. I’m tired of soloing Lupicus and getting kicked after I kill him because it took too long and I could have rezzed people. Please, send in the CoF farmers.
Agreed haha. They can only improve surely…. cant they?
Well, i guess the only thing that wouldnt make sense is giving magic weapons to professions that dont use magic…
but then again, arent signets magic :O? i thought i heard someone say that…
You can think of signets as magic rings so those are fine for non magic users. The gw2 combat system doesnt really make sense to have magical weapons on warriors and other non magical classes. Seeing as the weapon skills are based on the weapon I struggle to see how they would design staff or scepter skills on a warrior. They would have to be used as sort of clubs but then they would be barely different from mace or hammer.
I don’t think anything changed. Everyone doing speed run cof only will be doing speedrun on other dungeon path.
The money reward is once per day according to the blog post. Means repeating the path wont get you money it will just get you tokens.
So we drop the F and add an E and we’re back to square 1?
True but atleast people who want to earn alot of money in a day will be forced to do other dungeons aswell as CoE as they will only be able to get the bonus gold once for each of the 3 paths of CoE. I imagine CoE will be the new farm dungeon but others will become more popular aswell.

“To encourage players to participate in a wider array of dungeon content, we’ve designed the system so if you complete the same dungeon path twice in one day, you’ll receive the normal reward for completion, but won’t receive the bonus gold reward again during that day.”
Yeah I either want a mainhand sword. Or some utility skills which buff/support the team like auras. If we could boost group dps with some sort of aura we would instantly become viable in dungeons.
I do other dungeons quickly already, I don’t do cof at all. I wont benefit from changes to CoF, I just wont be affected by them.
You will be earning more gold in those other dungeons though. Cof farmers will be earning less, proper dungeon runners will be earning more.
People who can actually do other dungeons quickly will benefit from this change.
4k dps is pathetic btw even for a necro. Anyway the meta is to melee everything with maximum dps (except for a few fractal bosses) so they shouldnt be moving anyway.
The 4k dps is just from conditions and its pretty conservative (2400 approx self-buffed cond dmg, 18ish stacks of bleeding, continuous poison and burning). It doesn’t include direct damage. I’m giving realistically sustainable numbers since I’m assuming we’re having a useful debate and not just posturing.
How are you calculating 10k dps btw? Is there a meter?
I dont bother with the calculations my self. But some guys on the dungeon section were discussing dps. The numbers they calculated for most classes were between 7k-11k dps with full repeatable rotations.
Warrior dps far exceeds the dps a necro can do. A beserker necro does respectable damage but with no useful utility or team buffs its not worth it in dungeons. Other classes are much more useful. Condition dmg will never out damage raw in pve.
As long as the target doesn’t move and lets you do your full axe/mace/gs rotation and you’re in a good group that stacks and uses dmg mitigation to prevent you dying in seconds, sure.
If you have to move or dodge, warrior dps goes down the toilet.
Whereas my cond necro can sustain 4k dps easy (bleeding, burning, poison) on everything in range of Epidemic and my dps is not predicated on standing still so I can kite without reducing my dps. And perma-weakness and perma-crippling of course.
Warrior has about 10k dps. Dodging doesnt drop your dps that much. Whirlwind can be used as dmg and a dodge. Your doing something wrong if your warrior isnt out dpsing your necro by a mile. You can stay axe auto and thats about the same dps as 100b, just dont interrupt the final hit of the axe chain. Which means it doesnt matter if the boss is moving around because you can move with it while using the axe. 4k dps is pathetic btw even for a necro. Anyway the meta is to melee everything with maximum dps (except for a few fractal bosses) so they shouldnt be moving anyway.
The only advantage a necro has as a condition or hybrid build is sustained aoe. Beserker necro’s burst aoe is usually enough though.
go for a beserker build instead or roll a new class
Transtemporal, Warrior has much better mob control skills. A War can push a boss into a corner and keep it there. Necromancer has only a puny 1 sec Fear on long-is CD for that.
Not saying that is a problem but War has control mechanisms that work better
War does have some great cc but on bosses, who cares? Unshakeable and Defiant make it irrelevant.
And in any case, you shouldn’t be pushing bosses into a corner where dps can’t sit on his back. That’s just… annoying.
Warrior dps far exceeds the dps a necro can do. A beserker necro does respectable damage but with no useful utility or team buffs its not worth it in dungeons. Other classes are much more useful. Condition dmg will never out damage raw in pve.
Debuffers. Unfortunately debuffing is pointless in pve.
Crafted ascended gear will be account bound. But the components to make them will be sellable. Either way its gonna be hell to gear up loads of alts in full ascended. Its already bad enough trying to get full ascended trinkets on multiple alts lol.
I was waiting for when you guys used LH ele to speed up the first phase. GG lol.
MF gear is a detriment to everyone you group with. Its selfish and it doesnt help that much, its still dependant on RNG. Its a good decision by Anet.
Bro we aren’t talking about Strife’s build specifically, Strife is just a guy who is running the same content as me and a bunch of other guys. Strife is not the endall, be all guru of the guardians.
If a group or pug is able to make it through a lvl 48 fractal on daily basis they have some idea wtf they are doing and their opinion is equally as valuable. This is not WoW anymore.
With this out of the way, if you ran a lvl 48 fractal (which i doubt you do but anyways) you would notice that completion does not equal efficiency. So you can run it with 5 DPS classes and have a completely chaotic experience, take 3h to complete it, spend 1h at harpy boss, or throw in an anchor guardian (anchor =/=)Full soldier) and have a more enjoyable experience.
An anchor does 2 things:
1- Can take an extra hit, which is HUGE because its enough time for your endurance to refull or extra DPS time
2 – It attracts boss and regular mobs like a magnet. This means that while you are dodging and blocking hits, that warrior is throwing 34k 100bs (or whatever axe autoattack does). That mes is duking it long range and that thief is not wasting DPS time stealthing and rezzing your sorry kitten .THAT is what an Anchor does. Whatever you lose in personal DPS, (which is not much mind you) you gain by having a more controlled environment. An anchor lasting an extra 2sec while focused by lvl 83 dredge = an extra 2 sec of your party which can DPS and not less likely you will wipe and reset the pull
You didnt read my post did you.
Geez Hunter, why the hostility over Zerker gear users? Some of the people here know how to play with it and still survive just fine.
That’s not to say that everyone can do that, but unless someone actually says “Zerker gear is greater than all and anyone that does otherwise sucks,” you don’t need to be so hostile.
Spoj is right to a degree. Some people cna do that. Others, like me, can’t go full Zerker, so he’d be wrong in my case, but he isn’t completely wrong with that statement for others either
This is exactly true. There is no real need for an anchor. 1 anchor in high fractals is ok but its not actually needed. When you go above 48 ive heard there is no point in AH anchor at all. The dmg from trash is just too high to worry about survivability. This is why even in high fractals the best groups are 4 beserkers and 1 anchor(optional).
@Hunter
I pug high fractals as a zerk guard and am fine most of the time. I have my old AH knights set carried around if I need it though. I dont switch back to AH traits ever anymore though. As I dont need to. People can make zerker work, just because you cant doesnt mean we are all wrong to use it….
Also that AH build guide is old. Strife no longer plays. DnT dont use an AH guard anymore as far as im aware. They use a dps guard (they might still use 1 anchor in fracs though). Check the latest guard vids on that channel.
(edited by spoj.9672)
Ive been thinking about this for a while. Had some ideas on what would be most appropriate to give to each class.
Necro – sword
Warrior – torch
Guard – warhorn
Eng – mace/hammer
Thief – rifle
Ranger – hammer
Unsure about mes and ele. Maybe offhand dagger for mes and torch for ele?
When will you warrior wanna bes understand that Ah and anchor builds have their own niche in endgame PVE? I won’t bother explain to you the details because those who share your mindset are braindead CoF farmers. I will just have to point you to the lvl 48 fractal guide
Wow clueless post out of nowhere.
The Largos seem really boring and uninteresting to me (Also dislike them visually). If they go by popular demand it will definately be Tengu.
They seemed to hint most new dungeons will be added into fractals but they also said other new permanent dungeons in the open world are possible. I have a feeling that some of the new stuff they add to fractals wont be part of the rotation in a fractal run. It will be a dungeon you just access through diessa’s lab if you want to play it.
I’ve heard power for dungeons, condition damage for PvP, and that makes me a little disappointed. I’m a huge fan of doing dungeons and fractals, but my three level 80’s all use zerker type builds, and I really want a character that can effectively run carrion or rampager gear in dungeons.
Are there any viable builds like this? I don’t care if it’s pure damage oriented or what, I’d just like a good, solid condition damage build for dungeons. Preferably with Staff as one of the weapon swaps.
Thanks a whole bunch.
Its not about viability of builds. Its about condition damage being poor in general for pve. You have lots of bosses that clear conditions, it takes time to build up stacks. If more than one person takes condition damage you get reduced overall damage in the team. Plus it doesnt do as much damage is power crit builds. Also dungeons with objects are impossible to kill with rabid sets. Not so bad with carrion but still a problem because you wont be taking damage modifier traits in your condition build. Also even with just one condition build in the team, damage can be reduced due to other classes applying weak bleeds and burns with their power specs and so they take up the stacks and reduce your damage.
Its so irritating in pugs when you tell them not to clear the poison and they say ok. Then it gets cleared instantly anyway. :/
Guess you want the AH build with knights gear then. Its good while you get use to the guardian and for pugging. As you gain more experience there is no need and you can switch to a full dps beserker build which still provides team utility and support.
Except when you go with a random group, i can dodge most boss attacks and maybe you can the same but you would be surprised how many cant and just stand still behind wall of reflection because they don’t know how to dodge at all.
YOU would be surprised how many like to stand in front of the wall
Put the wall in the middle of bloomhunger and everyone in melee is safe as long as they avoid the circles.
From what they said on stream it sounds like its quite complex so i imagine it will have some pretty good filters and so on. So people can look for optimum group setups with it hopefully.
It happens with stealth and other things like petrify on the box of fun. The glow texture on radiant doesnt work with stealth and similar effects. Hopeful anet are fixing it.
At the end why didnt you skip the trash on the ramp leading to final boss?
I’m going for Kraitkin, the spear doesn’t even look remotely like a necro weapon, neither do any of the other legendaries. I personally love underwater combat on necro so I don’t mind grinding away my time and hard earned money at the mystic toilet to get the trident. I prefer more “common” skins on my necro for the other weapons, at least until we get a better selection of legendaries to choose from.
Agreed. Im still undecided on a warhorn skin to go with my corrupted dagger though. Godskull is nice it just doesnt fit.
not sure if troll shielding…
.
…But I agree 100% with Byron, you can’t trust anything anyone says on these forums just b/c so few of the most vocal “Pros” ever volunteer or even RUN in pugs. They conveniently have their little private groups that maybe 1 or 2 of them ever puts out a video of which is always heavily edited as well….
The people i use to run dungeons and fractals with have pretty much quit or gone inactive. So im forced to pug. Alot of pugs will be open to doing proper tactics if you explain to them beforehand. Sometimes its just not worth the effort though.
Yeah AH doesnt take aggro. The key to keeping ettin aggro on a guard is just making sure noone hits it except the guard. Ive kept it busy as a zerker guard plenty of times and the only times it doesnt work is because a pug hits it before me or does too much damage while im kiting it away.
If anet unlocked levels 50+ fotm, a lot of people would change opinion on AH.
better or worse?
DS power build can solo most content. You have stability and good access to damage so it doesnt take too long.
I melee bloomhunger even if every1 else in the pug group ranges because im cool as kitten. One time they all wiped while ranging and i had to solo to finish him off. :/
Yeah thanks for the clarification. Never played shout war or even looked into it, so was just curious to see peoples opinions with actual reasons. It would be nice if AH guard could heal the group a bit more but yeah the benefits of aegis, blind, protection and reflection outweight the natural tankyness of a warriors hp i suppose.
I would be interested to see shout warrior + 2 dps guards and 2dps wars in fractals. Would it work? You still have the reflects and you just have the anchor with more hp and better group heals.
The zerg of [TAC], [INT] and [CNTK] gave me some giggles – There were red tags from bay to garrison without any gaps, when we just wanted to pass north. Met some [TAC] later, who were really bad, when roaming alone. If you don’t know your build too well, you probably should get to know it better, first. Might prevent you from getting rofl-stomped. Recommendation for your thieves: Get some toughness. It’s pathetic to spec into zerker if you cannot mitigate any damage. At least I didn’t have to chase invisible stuff around cause it gets downed in 2 seconds… sigh
TAC is mostly pve players. It was a WvW event last night so thats why we were a large group. Most people would of been running pve builds. I jumped in on my lvl 78 mes for a bit just to get some xp which didnt work out so well. Got separated from the group and a thief tried to gank me. Then another theif decided to join in and murder the underleveled mesmer in lvl 60 zerk gear 2v1. For a brief moment i thought id get an interesting fight until the 2nd came along.
Its a good point. I think people just see it as a waste for warriors not to maximise their dps. But surely you could take a shout heal warrior instead of a AH guard in some situations and have better overall dps.
Why the huge jump in speed between earlier this year and now? A few months ago the record kills were only incrementally improved, but you guys just cut it in half in like…3 weeks.
Nothing better to do most likely.
When i said “these types of groups”, i was referring to optimized/speedrunning groups…. Necro has no place in those groups at the moment due to the reasons I and Afya mentioned. I find it kind of amusing that your telling me to learn game mechanics….
Anyway i started off with a reasonable discussion but you took my comment as if i was calling you kitten. I wasnt. Heres the comment again:
Also you claiming having low dps uptime with dagger because its melee, is a learn2play issue. Axe is pathetic, only useful for burst lifeforce generation or a DS build (which is lower dps than dagger).
Let me clarify. If you know the mechanics and have an organised coordinated group you dont need to come out of melee and so you dont lose dps uptime (a l2p issue). I wasnt saying you need to learn to play. I apologise if it offended you, wasnt my intent.
You keep seeming to mention face tanking red circles. You are meant to use your dodge key to avoid things like that. Every powerful boss attack can be avoided and countered with smart mechanics and in melee. The exceptions where people dont melee are shaman boss in fractals, dredge boss while kiting (can jump in for melee under the lava, captain ashym when he gets to 25% hp (stops him using fiery gs). Most people tend to also dive in and out on colossus fractal boss but thats about it.

30/25/0/0/15
or for DS power build:
30/10/0/0/30
For aoeing in zergs you want 10 pts in death magic for greater marks though.
So you want to remove terror damage completely and make it a survivability trait? Im not sure i fully understand your suggestion. My solution would just be to remove the bonus fear damage while another condition is on the target and maybe boost the base fear damage slightly to compensate.
