That one trap completely outshining Well of Suffering by a mile is pretty hilarious. WoS was already outdone by glyph of storms which had alternative choices. We already had weak utilities so it seems like the elite spec is going to be mandatory. Assuming they actually give skills on the same tier as they have done for dragonhunter and chrono so far.

Well the thing with deaths embrace. Is in PvE against bosses its duration is halved. I would personally prefer it to be chance on proc and lower ICD. Otherwise it may aswell be changed to +10% damage under 33% hp. You could argue its slightly better because vuln helps teammates aswell. But in PvE vuln is going to be capped and in PvP a flat boost is going to have almost the exact same effect. I could accept it as it is though. Its certainly better than the old spite master minor.

Siphoned power i feel should be 10 second might if its 1 stack of might on a 1 second ICD. That means the maximum you can get is 10 stacks with no boon duration. If its going to keep its 5 second duration then I feel it should have no ICD (same as forceful greatsword). Forceful greatsword has the advantage of 3 target cleave, works at all health thresholds, rapid multi hitting channel and bonus effects. We would only be able to cap might with this trait when well bursting with locust swarm and dagger on multiple targets. And it would only be brief and only on enemies below 50% health.

Perma immob guard. DPS traps. A DPS elite? Theres definitely real possibilities of it being ok in some situations. Assuming you dont need a full loadout of current utilities. And the virtue upgrades could be pretty strong.

Either way i dont really care. Guard is fine as it is in the meta. It doesnt really need anything. This is just new flavour stuff to play around with. That and i dont really play much guard so it doesnt bother me as much. One less spec to rush to try out.

Deaths Embrace – lower the ICD.
Siphoned Power – in addition to whats already been said. Buff the might duration slightly.
New Death Magic Grandmaster – Reflect projectiles for 2 seconds when entering DS.
New Blood Magic Master – Condition transfer on DS skills.
Combine Unyielding blast and Reapers Might.
Make Life Blast a projectile finisher (baseline).
New Blood Magic Grandmaster – Give vigor on hit. 5 second duration, 5 sec ICD. (weak for a grandmaster i know but we need a source for vigor)

Vampiric signet – Change the passive to proc on hit with either high numbers and 1 sec ICD or low numbers and no ICD. Remove the ICD from the active and buff the siphon stacks slightly.

I was referring to the OP’s suggestions. But that also goes for utility skills. We dont have any active defence on utility skills. So that becomes a useless addition aswell.

I dont see how you get nothing? You dont know for sure. The new f1 looks like it could be good for spammable damage. Some of the traps could actually be good. And maybe there will be some nice new utility aswell. You dont have enough info to make such an assumption yet.

In fact all the virtue upgrades are pretty nice (remember all the virtue traits should work with them still). They might not be worth the tradeoffs in most situations though.

The tiers are irrelevant when you get the whole line by default. The only thing this is relevant is the alternative choices in the same tier. But that doesnt mean grandmaster has to have the strongest 3 traits. It just means those 3 need to be equal but provide different options. The same goes for the other 2 tiers.

You could make all tiers have grandmaster level traits. And that is almost what is happening thanks to all the trait merging (less noticeable on necro due to lack of good traits and merging).

Shouts can be made to buff allies’ ability to harm enemies, which is very likely because of Orders, and would be great support.

As for warhorn, the only change I’d really make to it is maybe a blast finisher on 4, and changing the locusts to not deal damage unless you are already in combat (so they don’t put you in combat when you run past some boxes).

Valkyrie would be my favourite choice. I also quite like Vindicator.

Honestly the way it looks makes it feel like a kind of angelic guardian. Which is why Valkyrie is my top pick. Another name of a similar theme could also work. But i honestly dont see how the spec relates to dragonhunter in any way, shape or form.

I have a hunch that they avoided names like Valkyrie because its a gear prefix. But i dont think thats a good reason personally.

The point of signets is to have use on both the passive and active. The general theme is to have sustain on passive and some good niche use on the active. Making the passive heal on hit fixes that. The active isnt far off being a decent niche skill to pop. It just needs a slight buff to the base heal and the removal of the active ICD.

Also necros are more likely to pop the active on such a skill because they wont benefit from the passive in DS. Which means if they plan to sit in DS for a while then they can pop the active before entering DS then camp DS until it comes off cooldown. And then you have a well balanced heal skill which has benefits to both the active and the passive portion. :P

Hes right for vampiric signet though. The passive should provide sustain. It should be on hit. It doesnt even need in ICD in either format. But if the healing per hit is good enough then im ok with a 1 second ICD. The active needs the ICD removed from the stacks portion so players can use intelligent play to get the best out of it (save fast multi hits for burst and bigger heal).

Heal when hit doesnt make any sense. It would be passable if we could get signet passives in DS and we could heal in DS. That way we could sit DS and get hit to heal our base HP. But thats not possible. So the concept of the passive is completely useless to everyone.

I dont really understand why they felt the need to rework so much on Engi. Engi was fine in all three gametypes. And its just a slap in the face to necros. I get that its cool and great for engi players. But if one class that doesnt really need such overhalls is getting one. Surely the class that needs it the most should get some extra resources devoted to it.

An article on a big news site raises the issue to a wider audience. And it creates controversial exposure. They are more likely to take action if even relatively unbiased news sites start calling one class bad.

You shouldnt expect a response though. They would be digging their own grave if they responded this late despite the same issues being well known since release. Just hope for action in the form of proper and well thought out balance decisions.

Even an employed game designer isnt necessarily better at designing content than your average invested intelligent player. Conceptual design is something anyone can do. Claiming you are a designer to try and justify your ideas as superior just makes you look like an idiot. Good ideas stand on their own.

It’s a really nice article btw.
The only things I disagree with are that according to the author some DS skills are unusable by certain builds. That’s not true, Tainted Shackles is a really good skill for any kind of build, and even Life Blast and Transfer have some value for conditions builds.
Also, instead of being able to use regular utility skills in Death Shroud, I’d rather get new DS skills that actually provide more utility and scaling defense than the regular skills we already have.

Agreed. I mentioned the tainted shackles thing in the comments. Didnt bother with other niche uses though as they are less obvious.

Either way it doesnt really matter. The purpose of the article gets its point across. And those slight inaccuracies actually do us a favour by shining a light on the kind of limited niche use for most DS skills and how they dont work so great on every build. And how they arent obvious to most players.

These are the only things that stand out as good on their own to me (even if they dont have much of a place in current content). I said DS concept because its implementation and how it has resulted in our shoddy defence options is a major problem. But the idea behind the mechanic if it didnt restrict us so much is really nice.

What im seeing in this thread is Derenek wrongly referring to safespotting as stacking. Stacking can happen anywhere including in the open. Theres nothing exploity about it. In some situations it can cause a group to wipe.

Abusing AI by using specific spots is not stacking. Thats a safespot. But obviously stacking is a symptom because a safespot is only a small area and you cant spread a team out in a safespot.

Hopefully that clears up the misunderstanding.

ps. How is multiple people using AOE on the same location glitchy? I cannot comprehend how you can come to that conclusion. And this is completely unrelated to people stacking anyway seeing as most AOE’s are ranged ground targeted lol.

The elite specs will prob require about 100 more hero points. So if you want to avoid annoying grind on that many alts i think you are going to have an issue regardless. Better start cracking now. :>

So you missed the multiple threads within a few days in this subforum when they first removed ownership? There was also plenty in the general forum. They continued popping up for a couple of weeks. All of them were just regular pugs complaining about getting their instance stolen after trying to replace party members that had to leave due to various reasons.

Eventually it slowed down because for once anet started to crack down a bit on griefers. They kind of had to with the shear amount of them abusing the system right after the change. Faulty systems like this are always abused by players and this was no exception. Things have just settled down a bit (atleast publicly).

Before the majority of people griefed were sellers. Now it happens to regular players and sellers. And theres an increase in both areas. And thats simply because the griefer can steal your instance. Essentially profiting from griefing.

Not 100% sure what you mean by counters though. Do you mean mechanics that allow us to counter other classes? Or counterplay in our own traits/skills?

Reason i put scaling defence at 1. is because currently we look like were going to be in an awful position when new challenging PvE encounters come into the game. Since lupi got changed/bugged recently necro is the only class that is is now impossible to solo outside of stacking nomads or abusing the reflect crystal environmental weapons. For those that dont know lupis auto attack now hits in melee so you need damage avoidance every 2 seconds. Which is impossible to achieve on necro. And lifeforce generation and health sustain necro has isnt enough to sustain those hits.

The owner system prevented some griefing and instance theft. Although it did allow some people to abuse power. But not completely. If you kicked the last person in the instance you would be removed aswell (they had to leave of their own will).

Ever since ownership disappeared we have seen a rise in griefing. So to say the ownership system was bad is a bit onesided. It had its problems. Mainly with pugs where people had to leave prematurely. But it prevented excessive griefing because there wasnt anything in it for the griefer.

Disenchanter is good. I used to use that all the time in CoE for the golem. Its good for any boon fight really. Just not many of those. Old mimic was best mimic.

Yeah personally i prefer weaker versions with no ICD’s. Noone is going to take axe training so its pointless even adding that functionality just for synergy sake.

Also with making weakening shroud share the skill with enfeebling blood. That makes even less sense. The trait which reduces its cooldown is situational. And it would be impossible to judge when the trait is off cooldown. This could also be said about spiteful spirit. Theres no way to tell when the situational cooldown reduction has effected the skill enough to be safe to flash again.

Make them both weaker versions with no ICD’s and add a blast to spiteful spirit. Opens up a lot more build possibilities and avoids frustration with double cooldowns and unreadibility of proc timing. I probably wont ever use these traits if they keep these long ICD’s. Because theres no synergy or fun to be had when you have mismatched overlapping cooldowns hindering gameplay.

Yeah its the might from a trait and runeset which makes it worth taking. The fact that its a signet is its only use. The skill itself is totally trash.

A passive which doesnt provide any sustain because it heals when you are hit. So its just a weak damage reduction. But on top of that they slapped an ICD on it because obviously damage reduction with no ICD is op! And then signet passives dont work in DS so you cant even try and use the one thing that might make the passive ok. And even if signet passives did work in DS you cannot heal in DS so it doesnt work anyway. Then the active is just pathetic for healing and the ICD prevents you from using all 25 stacks for yourself.

tl;dr
ICD’s everywhere! ICD’s piled on ICD’s to make a bad skill even worse.

Derenek you have misunderstood some stuff and have a few things wrong.

They said they are converting skillpoints to mats. Not hero points. Hero points will be a finite set earned through skill challenges and leveling. If you have enough skill challenges done you wont need to do any extra to unlock all the core stuff. The extra hero points you earn through skill challenges are for you to spend on future specs and unlocks such as the new elite specs. So you will be able to have more than 465. 465 is just the predicted requirement to unlock all the core stuff.

One thing im not sure about is whether hero points are account bound or not. If they are then just having 1 character with map completion will actually fully cover more than a couple of characters for unlocking all the core stuff. If hero points are character bound then currently every character will have a maximum of about 600 hero points if they have map completion done. And it will increase with the new maps in HoT.
