Personally, I think the kitten filter is actually the single most hilarious implementation on this forum. I hope ANet never removes/replaces it. Seeing a false positive and trying to guess the original meaning is always a fun game. Also, I actually started using “kitten” as a curse word in real life.

~MRA

It’s fun the first few days. The last thing I want is having to spend kitten per post trying to understand what was said. Forums are for communication, this is obfuscation.

Question : what is under the kitten ?

Holy Grind Wars 2!

The good thing is, that delay in progress towards ascended weapons, will not delay you from completing any of the content this game has to offer. This delay will not delay you from getting to the fun stuff, as compared to other MMOs, any delay in getting gear can delay you from getting to the fun content. That is the difference between a grindy game and Guild Wars 2, no grinding needed to get to the fun stuff.

But it will delay a lot my first legendary because it’s eating into my savings. It also delays by a lot (ie, forever) my exploration of alternate builds and stat sets because I’m not about to sink 50g into non BiS exotics for build testings or alts.

It discourages experimentation and globally greatly decreases the game enjoyment.

Time Gating And Alts

ANet could have solved that problem so easily by time gating the unlock of the crafting instead of the crafting itself :/

But they are incredibly alt unfriendly, starting from the dyes. Does their metrics show them that forcing players to regrind every boring thing in the game for each alt increases the retention rate? Weird.

Maybe the problem is that linksville is a bad idea in the first place. Why make a forum nobody visits?

Since nobody really visits in, any thread moved there will be perceived like moving a thread to the Trash subforum.

While we are at it, are you planing on doing something about the kitten filter? I swear, this thing must have a 99% false positives rate because I don’t even remember the last time it filtered something legitimate.

Other ways to Acquire Ascended Weapons

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Well, 50g per weapon is a lot. But unfortunately, we didn’t even begin to see the huge grind required to level a craft to 500, nor the soul crushing RNG flavored exotic salvaging required.

So, if you are at 500 craft already and somehow got the Exotic salvage part donc, I do think it costs around 50g in raw mats to make a weapon.

No, skill and memorization allows you to win. The cash only allows you to keep playing without having to go back and farm more lives. The cash didn’t allow you to win at all.

You work with a definition of P2W that is completely opposite to what I (and most people that talk about that use)

P2W is a shortcut to wining, it’s not the only path. This coin is INCREDIBLY convenient. We do not even begin to touch how convenient it is here. Remember that when you respawn, you only get one life. That when you go out to farm lifes/coins/baubles, you need to restart a zone from the first checkpoint. Hey, you didn’t farm enough lives and you were at the last checkpoint already? Too bad, go back to farm and start again from the zone entrance.

The difference in effort to win between the Payers and the NotPayers is huge, so it is P2W plain and simple.

Well, there SAB you know. It as a start and an end, when you reach the end, you win.

You pay cash and it allows you to win. Pay 2 Win. Sure, as in all P2W games, Paying isn’t the only way to win, but for sure it helps a LOT.

In this case, paying helps a lot. So it is P2W.

Ascended weapons DO drop. You get a box that lets you CHOOSE a weapon out of a stat set. If that isn’t generous, please tell me what is. They could have just as easily made ascended weapons only attainable by crafting.

One weapon out of a fixed RNG stat set. 90% chance to get a stat you don’t want. So generous. Even with 7 chars.

IWBTG difficulty works because the game has no down time. You die? You respawn instantly 10s earlier at a checkpoint that are conveniently placed all over the place. This was specifically mentioned in Extra Credits (same remark for Super Meat Boy) when talking about difficulty done right.

I would have hoped that ANet game designers did watch those series before but it seems not :p

Seriously, I thought this was what the hardcore gamers wanted – hard, challenging, unfair content that makes them work and use their skills.

Well the biggest issue I have with it is that it’s completely insane playing it without the infinite continue coin or without farming normal continue coins beforehand.

P2W or “preparing to have fun” seems to be the only two choices here :/

I do have some old games finished under my belt. The difficulty in world 2 and in tribulation mode isn’t right.

W1 is W1, it’s fine as it is for the difficulty. The zones are big but not very linear giving us the impression the zones are both big and short enough. W2Z1 is as big as W1Z3 and 100% linear. It’s long, it’s annoying. W2Z1 doesn’t give us any baubles. W2Z1 only give us one life when you restart.

Are we supposed to farm extra lives in W1? With the dig spots heavily nerfed?

It’s most helpful to us if you are specific about areas that have difficulty spikes for you. (Such as mentioning the spin flowers above.) Also things are always laggy the first day of content release. So complaints about lag don’t help.

That jumping flower in w2z1 got me stumped a moment because there’s absolutely no indication they are a jump pad. And once I step on them randomly for the first time, down into the chasm!

Take a cue on the old Megaman games. Add one somewhere earlier on a flat ground so that you don’t get cheap deathed and put one bauble on top of it to lure players into them so that they learn how they work. Megaman games are very good at those kind of discreet tutorials.

Also, w2z1 has far far far far too few baubles around, it’s insane.

D/D Deathblossom build amazing!

in Thief

Posted by: stof.9341

stof.9341

The problem with d/d deathblossom is that db has a 3/4s cast time and 1/2s evade frame. Aka, you are vulnerable for 1/4s without any way to dodge the incoming attack. While this is ok vs the average player, against a high level player you can’t do a thing to them, and they can hit you without you being able to do anything. That’s why in high level tournament play the build is nonexistent. Not to mention the current condi spam meta that forces everyone to bring at least 1, if not many, condi removals. The final problem is the lack of buffer conditions on the set. Aka, a class with constant single condi removal will be nigh invincible (like d/x backstab builds with condi clear in stealth).

Actually, it’s only a 1/4s evade time with a 1/2s channeling time + who knows how much aftercast delay. Still, the problem of D/D condition is exactly that : once your opponents know the very easy window of opportunity to hit you, you start losing. The build is gimmicky and wins by unfamiliarity mostly.

Hint : CC/damage the thief when he lands from Death Blossom.

Shelter is not balanced

Signet of Strength and other unblockable skills like LS/FS.

Yeah well, the only way LS can ever hope to interrupt Shelter is to :
- Cast Flanking Strike which is blockable
- Use elite Basilisk Venom
- Hit the guardian with Flanking Strike while BV charge is available

IE, it’ll not happen, ever. Only chance of that happening is if you somehow precasted LS and BV before you see the guardian use shelter. IE, if you are psychic or lucky.

Only possibility is to make the guardian walk on the knockdown trap, if he doesn’t have stability up. I suppose you could see the guardian casting shelter, instantly steal his stability and quickly put the trap directly on him. The casting times for all that means it’ll not happen either.

stof.9341

But why make something so complex? Why have just the ranger pets and the elite summons count? I don’t like much that AoE limit in the game. It adds a weird RNG factor in sPvP. I remember in Aion that my team didn’t like me having my pet out in some situations because one of our Priest AoE healing skill could select it as a target and it meant the poor guy that didn’t get it was dead. Same offensively. If we get all 5 players in an AoE, why would some random player not get hit by the effect just because there was a pet there that took the slot?

The best solution is to plainly uncap it. Or make the AoE select the real players in priority.

1) That’s wrong time gated definition is as I stated. Time gating as a phrase has been used in MMOs before GW2 even existed. Someone suddenly changed the context and that misinterpretation has caught like wildfire for whatever reason.

2) currently the only thing that fits what you describe is Quartz Crystals though refining ectos will be the same.

Technically, maybe the term isn’t good. But you are completely arguing semantics here which is a logical fallacy.

Again if you consider two weeks a grind, I question why you ever got into MMOs in the first place…

In all technicalities, we don’t have much information on that. The “two weeks” per weapon part is ONLY for the time gating parts. It’s time you’ll not be able to shorten more.

Will it take only two weeks to gather all the other materials? How long to level your craft to 500? How many exotics you’ll need to salvage to get the special new component? How many dragon events you’ll need to complete to get those special ores?

Ascended weapons and gear are SOLELY for the people who WANT a MILD post 80 grind… ie. the TOP PvPers and, like myself, collectors…

But Arenanets other reason they gave us was “to bridge the time gap between exotic and legendary”.

That reason fails on the implementation. Well not that much. Ascended rings were done right. Ascended amulets too. Ascended earrings were done right but as a slap in the face of players that don’t want to do zerg guild content. You can buy them as another source but it WILL set you back a lot on your way to your legendary.

And now, ascended weapons come out and it costs like 40-50g in raw materials, not to mention karma for each weapon. Let’s not even mention how much it’ll cost to level crafting to 500.

Making those ascended weapons will completely set me back months in my slow and painful quest into a legendary :/

Well, with 1700 condition damage, a 2s of burning, somehow with 100% burning duration (is that even possible?) would turn out for a total of 3000 damage.

Is 3000 damage that you cannot stack worth 4-5 initiative? Especially considering it probably won’t be 100% duration either?

Big huge icons above our heads in dark colors big huge marks on the ground.. big huge animations on transform.. big huge movements when healing..did i mention very..big and huge? good..

When my necro uses marks, the opposing team doesn’t see the big huge marks on the ground. Something to do with the fact I use them offensively and not as traps most of the time maybe? I put them under my opponents feet. Which is rather easy since there’s a nice circle the size of my marks drawn by the game where the game rules more or less guarantee their feets will be in. I think they call that control points :p

Your Easiest Solution

Nods. The reason you’re noticing the heal/elites is because they have their own cast effects (the blue glow for the heals, for instance) when they’re used. If we put that on all the marks, that’s 5 more skills using those effects…which means you’d no longer be able to differentiate them.

Increase marks cast time and make them appear on the ground during the whole cast but in a slightly muted form. Or make the mark take time to activate once on the ground.

Those changes are even PvE compatible mostly, except maybe the slightly longer deploy/cast time

Ascended Gear to Kill Builds and Alts?

So if you are a new player who hits level 80, you’d eschew gearing in rares or exotics in favor of time-gated ascended, even though the cost and time of doing so is pretty minimal (especially if you save your karma, level through wvw, or level through dungeons).

I’m not too bothered by gearing in rares I get because all the rares I get go through my mystic salvage kit. I might as well equip them in the mean time since it doesn’t lower their value. I might even put some expensive sigil/rune on them and break one of the many Black Lion salvage kits charges I have left.

But I don’t do that for weapons, the base damage lost with rares from exotics is far too much to ignore. And now ascended weapons come out with exclusive skins. I don’t think I’ll have the heart to reskin some plain exotic on top of an ascended weapon so I’m not sure what to do.

Right now, you get karma for almost everything. There’s no reason why you can’t drop some on an exotic set in orr if you refuse to dungeon. Rune that properly, drop a couple gold on an exotic sword, pick up an exotic backpiece for more karma, and you’ll do really well in every aspect of the game.

There’s no karma zerk backpiece unfortunately. Neither karma zerk trinkets :/

Exotics ARE obsolete. There are for the most part far too expensive for not BiS items.
