I just hope the speech is instanced and not like the Quaggan magic show. I hate wasting time standing around.

On the other hand, it would be the right time to do a non instanced speech to coincide with the removal of the culling in PvE.

Condition duration vs Melandru

Condition real duration isn’t rounded. Only Stun/Daze is as far as I know.

From what I understand, all condition duration modifier work on the base duration. So your 5s +100% = 10s condition when confronted to -25% from Melandru will lose 25% of 5s only, not 25% of 10s.

Also, I think that if you go above the cap, you counter some of the condition duration reduction effect.

Idk, first time I saw them I just thought oh they look kitten and hey they are female. Fits nicely considering the Queen is a Mesmer and Lyssa is a god of Beauty as well as illusions. Tbh I didn’t even notice all the details and things people are mentioning. It’s probably best you don’t think about it too deeply. I mean its not like people are thinking to themselves " look at that! the perfect woman!’ I didn’t and im sure others feel the same.

This deserves to be repeated. Those robots are somehow linked to Lyssa for sure. Their theme is to take on illusions to look like anything, they use purple/pink lightnings when they are forced to fight in their normal form.

The fact the creators made them look like that is a reference to Lyssa herself.

ANet seems to be using a ELO system for ranking people. In a typical setting, a player that got only 10 wins under his belt and no losses CANNOT have a high ELO. There’s a cap to how much points per game one can win. There’s not even need of a decay here. Once the number of games in the system reaches a stable point, the top 10 players will be sporting ELO scores far above what the early tops could achieve anyway.

The mistake you make here is that a top player that stops playing and so doesn’t lose cannot be overtaken on the leaderboard by the other players.

I have 3 guardians with different builds and gears. My zerker guardian with a more dps oriented build does well in pve, while she is still quite supportive. But for the zerg in the Queen’s Pavilion my trusty pvt guardian with supersupportive build is best. Damage does not matter there, there are enough people dishing it out. But healing, buffing, condition removing and especially never dying – very useful.

Damage doesn’t matter, except that the bosses HP scales up with the number of player. I suppose you should be happy there’s enough zerk players hitting the champions so that they don’t take ages to kill :p

Healing doesn’t benefit enough from healing power to justify the trade
Buffing doesn’t depend on gear stats, only on runes
Condition removing doesn’t depend on gear at all

It is our fault for believing on support roles.

This game is just about zerg and dps.

No need for support on 99% of the game.

So go zerker or waste your time.

Remember that video? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWQ-39_C8LI

Estimated team composition :
1 support Mesmer. Portal, Blink, Signet of Inspiration, Feedback, Timewarp
1 support Ranger. Spirit of Frost, Spotter, Call of the Wild
1 support Warrior. Banners, Empower Allies, FGJ, Long duration Fire combo field with longbow
2 DPS thieves, kinda. Blast finishers in fire fields as support.

Support roles exist, it’s just that they are expected to deal some DPS themselves too so they gear in zerk stuff.

Yes! Like not making every dungeon boss immune to CC and not limiting condition damage in group play. Maybe even making some bosses immune to direct damage for short periods of time so that condition damage can have some sort of importance in PvE. Then you would need more variety of builds to clear content and create more dynamic team play.

If bosses aren’t immune to CC, it makes the risk part in “high risk/high reward of zerk gear” moot. Thus making zerk gear even more desirable. Don’t forget that a CC warrior can do the job fine in full DPS gear. Warrior Hammer even sports some awesome DPS against disabled targets thanks to a trait.

A funny thing is that CoF p1 although the most famous zerk home in the game is not THAT dependent on huge DPS because there’s very few fights and lots of walking. Of course once you got the walking part optimized which isn’t hard, you have to resort to improving DPS to make it faster.

Zerk builds get more effective the more bosses you have to fight like say, CoE with the 3 Alphas per run.

FUN FACT for anyone discussing boobies on the robots: Apparently having boobplates on armour would kill you faster because instead of deflecting blades, the shape of the boobplates drives blades towards the center of your chest, and if you were to fall forward, the outward divets on your boobs would drive into your chest and injure/kill you, were you to sustain a hard enough blow.

Take that as you will.

I’m mostly upset that they had to have -high heels.-

I mean… really? really?

Wearing high heels means you’re no longer capable?

Not capable of running around and fighting enemies? Yes. You can’t sword fight in heels, especially heels like that, effectively. Just b/c the mechanics of the game ignore that doesn’t make it less true. The game’s mechanics could make a fish levitate rather than swim, too. Doesn’t change the fact it’d be ridiculous.

The heels are there as part of the aesthetic and the aesthetic is overtly sexualized in nature.

In this case, those are robots we are talking about. I don’t think the movement problems introduced by wearing high heels apply to them the same than for humans.

I’d like to remind people here that, yes the current dungeons are mostly DPS fests and that yes, other roles like CC aren’t required, mostly because of Defiant.

But no matter what, if ANet makes a dungeon where having, say, two AoE CC heavy classes is required to stand even a chance, they’d still be using Berzerker’s stats on their gear.

GW2 “trinity” (although a little broken currently) is damage, support, control.

- Damage : best done in zerk. If Anet changes something for conditions, we’ll have two best ways to do damage, zerk or rampagers. But that’s just cosmetics.
- Support is giving boons and stuff, Giver’s armor is really not worth it for a tiny amount of boon duration so once again best gear choice will be zerk and rampagers. Why? Because no matter what, a support player will NOT spend is time in a party doing just that. They’ll still DPS between buffing and it’ll happen more often than not.
- Control is applying CC and controlling conditions. Giver weapons give a nice bonus to condition duration so they can be considered but control conditions are meaningless in current boss fights : blind doesn’t work, weakness is too short and movement impairing doesn’t mean anything when your party melees the boss, especially since Immobilize doesn’t prevent mobs from turning. Gear choice for CC role? Zerk + optionally giver’s weapons.

See, the problem of GW2 isn’t in the roles, it’s in the gear stats itself which compared to the PvE tasks at hand, only zerk really is “suitable” for the job : reducing the mobs HP bar to 0.

In fact, if you look at that CoF record speed run, they had what? No control because they only fight bosses mostly but still, it was 1 mesmer, 1 ranger, 1 warrior and 2 thieves. That means for me : 3 supports and 2 DPS. Yes, warrior is support. He puts down banners and gives lots of boons. He also does DPS. Thieves are the only I class into DPS because their role is purely that. Maybe they give a little fury with points in trickery but I don’t think they need it, the warrior and ranger can probably provide all the fury they want.

Why zerk is better than most armor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

stof.9341

The problem with GW2, is that it greatly undervalues the importance of ROLES in teamplay. The developers were so focused on advertising their you-can-dodge combat and you-can-play-solo content, that they undervalued roles.

The problem is that, short of the Healer and Tank roles, no other stats on the gear support some kind of role. And GW2 was made specifically as a game that eliminated the healer and tank roles.

Want to play a CC warrior? Does Toughness increase your CC durations? No? Then go Zerk armor.

Healer builds can work but healing power as a stat isn’t good enough. Zerk builds group heal nearly as well as Cleric builds and the DPS loss of the later isn’t worth it. A kind of semi healer build that works and could be useful is a team condition removal oriented one. Does healing power allow your Cleansing Wave to remove 2 conditions instead of 1? No? Zerk armor it is then.

I DO want PvE to have much more role variety, but in the current itemization system, Zerk will still be the king because the stats on your items only serve two roles : making you lose your own HP bar slower, and making the mobs lose their HP bar faster.

Do you know how hard it is to find 4 people willing to accept someone who is very forthright about not already knowing the dungeons in this game? It doesn’t matter that I can play the game well, and throughly understand its mechanics. If you’re going to be asking for pointers on every boss, you’re useless. It’s kind of funny how toxicly competitive the part of the game designed to be the least competitive is. Yeah, I wanna run in my PVT gear, and yeah, I wanna try something new once in a while. So I guess, yeah, by the PvE community’s rigorous standards, I am greedy. Sorry!

The problem isn’t zerk gear, the problem is that :

- all content success is determined by the speed at which you can deplete an HP bar
- all gear is capable of doing all content
- some gear is 10 times more survivable while another gear set kills 10 times faster

There’s no way to make a balanced PvE game out of all those rules together. But if ANet removed all but zerk gear in PvE, they could start doing some real balancing.

Why zerk is better than most armor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: stof.9341

stof.9341

Basically all that needs to happen to increase the value of defensive stats is buff healing power’s scaling, and have enemies attacking more frequently with softer attacks. The zerker can dodge every single one of the lethargic, one/two shot kill attacks, but they cannot dodge a multitude of smaller attacks.

So, you intend to make most content impossible for zerk geared people to complete because they’ll get killed by the sustained damage?

The reason zerk is better is because all gear is capable of doing all content.

And and zerk does it faster than the others, so it’s better if you can handle it.

Min/maxers greatly exaggerate the effect of an individual’s gear. The fact is, and individual is just one person out of 5. If someone joined an all zerk party and did absolutely nothing, the run would take 25% longer. An 8 minute run would take 10 minutes, assuming the entire 8 minutes is spent fighting which is not even close to the case. More time is wasted waiting for people to sell their crap at vendor or arrive at the dungeon than that.

I’d say 30 to 60% longer depending on the specifics of the fight. Remember that one big factor in fights is matching your ability sustain to the encounter duration.. A team of 5 zerk players will survive for a 1 minute boss fight, the same team with 4 will be out of important cooldowns or out of health and regen before they last for the whole 1min 15s caused by the lack of one player.

How often would this happen anyway how many people queue with four lol. That is a rare occurance.

I want a good matchmaking system like it is with other games. I want people who don’t care about soloque to stay at a place for ever. I don’t come to WvW or to PvE and mess about.

The SoloQ uses a reset leaderboard it’s common knowledge. As such, all the players in soloQ count as unranked new players. It’s NORMAL that the first dew days you’ll get messy completely random teams. It’s in no way a proof that the matchmaking system doesn’t work or doesn’t even exist, just that it is still collecting information on the participants.

The same thing was said about the old leaderboards. From my 1500-1600 overall tournament games in which 10% where with pugs/premades (thus 90% soloque) there was never a day or a period of time where MMR was factored even though Arena Officially stated otherwise that “it was working as intended….give it some time to stabilize”

We (I) need to see ratings so I can have faith in this randomness. Ratings are still invincible because they are extremely flawed. I HOPE this time I get to be proved wrong and I will definitely give it a go and wait for at least a week to see if there is actually something called matchmaking.

Funny, I found the matchmaking gave me on average same skill players in my team and as opponents. There was a few odd cases sure but it’s to be expected when you search in low traffic times.

For reference, at which leaderboard rank are you? The TeamQ leaderboard I mean. The quality of matchmaking car vary greatly depending on where you are ranked.
