Killshot hits pretty hard. But its not that easy to actually land a killshot due to the very long casttime.

If the target recognizes you they can easily dodge the killshot. And even if the target doesnt recognize you chances are good they run out of your sight.

Sure, if you just stand there in place multiple seconds without moving you will get hit… from anyone!

Swiftness close to perma would be a necessity. check

Being able to gtfo of dodge would be a requirement or my repair bill would suck. check

Being able to melt a Thief’s face would be a bonus. check

Even bigger bonus would be something unique and unexpected. sorry there..

WvW is awesome, but for most it is PVP. IMO Anet should rename WvW to wPVP and apply a (special) pvp ruleset.

Counting WvW as PVE is ridiculous.

People tend to forget, BS thieves actually need full exotics before they are even a threat, pre-80 they can possibly 1v1 other sub-80’s, kill ‘em moderately fast if the opponent is clueless. Otherwise, you’ll die more than you kill and you will be targeted by other thieves more often than not, since you go down in one hit.

every profession has to be 80 in full exotics to be competitive.

and the problem why many thieves go down very fast is the fact that they run fully glass canon. the’re able to run fully glass canon because they can disengage from combat whenever they want due to stealth. thats unique to thieves. every other profession will be perma death while running fully glass canon unless they hide themself in zerg. thats why all classes but thieves stack toughness and vitality on there items. they trade damage for survivability thus dealing fewer damage.

To me this is the source of all the issues with thieves in WvW.

My biggest concern with thief is in WvW. In PvE they’re fine (potentially too weak even), and I don’t really play much sPvP. What I have to say with regards to WvW is in small group, or even 1v1 or 2v2 action.

Thieves can initiate fights well and burst well. That’s fine. What’s not fine is that if I manage to survive their burst, they are so slippery that they can escape every time if they are halfway intelligent.

I understand that slipperiness was a design goal for a thief, but there is a huge difference between strategic and tactical stealth in a fight. Strategic stealth is what we have now, which is long periods where the thief can stealth, reposition, and plot – even completely run away. This is amplified by the culling issues in WvW, but still – it IS an issue. Tactical stealth would be more short duration (1-2 second) stealths, combined with similar duration mobility increasing mechanics to have the thief feel able to be elusive in combat. There would also have to be some mechanic to keep these from being chained to create strategic stealth, though this exists in some form currently through the revealed debuff.

Right now, thieves pay no price for failed burst, as they can stealth or teleport away with ease. Their strategic advantage makes it impossible to kill a thief who knows what he’s doing.

And because its so easy for thieves to disengage from combat and teleport away, they dont have to bother to much with defensive stats on items (toughness, vitality). They can mainly concentrate on damage stats because its so easy for them to disengage from combat just using their skills. That makes the massive burst damage from thieves even worse.

I dont know any other profession who can ignore toughness + vitality on items like thieves can.

I’m playing warrior (rifle build) in WvW only and this is what I think about thieves:

Damage:
Thieves can really hurt! But I think it’s ok because it’s in the nature of a stealth class to deal single target dmg. However two things should be adjusted:

1. WvW is PVP so A.net should really apply PVP-rules for skills in WvW as they do in sPVP. IMO a better name for WvW would be wPVP.

2. Thieves have much less trade offs running a full glass canon build (e.g. full berserker items) than other professions because stealth is so superior for disengaging combat (see below). That results massive spike damage.

Stealth
Stealth is great! I love playing cat and mouse against thieves. Stealth is the nature of the thief profession. However three things should be considered for WvW:

1. Stealth need a counter! IMO the counter should be damage, so let damage break stealth. The same mechanics work so well in other games (e.g. DAOC). ATM its really difficult to react against a heavy stealthy thief. Its ok for melee chars because you can use your weapon-1 skill which deals cone aoe. But its really bad for range dps specs who lacks any aoe damage.

2. Stealth is way to strong for disengaging combat when things went wrong for the thief! ATM thief can use stealth to start the combat, he can use stealth during combat and when things went wrong for him he can also use stealth to disengage from combat and run away.
Thats way to much stealth for my taste. IMO it should work like this: thief should either use stealth to start combat or to disengage from combat but NOT BOTH. Thieves should have to decide whether to use it offensively or defensively.

3. Stealth has to much impact on equipment. Because stealth is so superior both as an offensive skill (start combat from stealth with a massive damage opener) and defense (disengage from combat whenever something went wrong). Because of that most thieves run an (almost) full berserker build.
No other profession can go like this! No other profession can ignore toughness and vitality like thieves can in WvW because its almost impossible for other professions to disengage from combat. Sure other classes have panic buttons (e.g. Endure Pain) but those skills just delay the time of death.

Buying leveling karma gear for WvW?

If its worth saving all karma for lvl 80 depends on what stats you wanna stack. Not all stat combinations are available on exotics from the karma vendors, e.g. you wont find the knights stuff (power, toughness, precision).

So, when your preferred stats are available from the karma vendors, then save all the karma and buy stuff when you’re lvl 80. Otherwise you’ll have to buy your exotics from TP, so you should save each and every copper for later.

unfortunately you have to travel around in pve to find the proper karma vendors to buy the leveling stuff there.

1 – if u got killed by 3 man and a baliste on a camp, while u’r with a
zerg of 15-20 man, it mean bigger zerg don’t win, and that what said
by ur friend “bigger zerg win”… So thanks here!
2 – so fo you, wvw tactics are not skills, are not experience of group
playing togther, it’s … tactics… skill is for the individuals, tactics
are for the group… simply lol, we’r getting dictionaries next time,
and will troll each other.
3 – if u had never fight as 15 vs 30-40 and won the fight ( in open
land, with no siege), then u don’t know what you are missing.
4 – wvw is about : tactics, skills, organisation… and that mean a lot
if your raid got a better stuffs than the others… an impact player
that will rush a raid to cc, to open the zone of combos, and that can
survive extra 2-3 secs… only extra 2-3 secs… just cause he got few better
stats, these secs can do a huge difference in fight…
So plz, if ur game play is all abour mindless zerg, siege, I can’t
really help myself but lolling.

All those “wvw is imbalanced”, “wvw is not real pvp”, “wvw is just mindless zerging” is so entirely stupid.

WvW is all you can imagine about playing PVP based content. WvW is 1vs1, 1vs2, 5vs5, 50vs50, 50vs1, 1vs50… You can have ANY kind of PVP content, but its unpredictable. You dont know whats behind the next corner.

Im playing rifle warrior for month with a mix of knights, berserkers and valkyries full exoctic wvw only. Killshot crits to a max of 13k damage on lowbie squishies. I was never able to 1-shot anyone.

Normally it goes like this:
1. enter combat, gaining adrenaline until max which takes quite a time with rifle (~20 secs I guess)
2. watch out for a good target for landing a killshot (e.g. someone who have dodged twice in a row)
3. start aiming for a killshot
4. in ~4/5 times during killshot casttime (~2s) (a) the target runs out of sight, (b) dodges or © you get focus fired (GOTO 2)
5. if you are actually lucky and the killshot hits and the target is not dead (due to having low health before), Im following with Volley
6. the target will immediately dodge, stealth, blink away or presses his panic button
7. at this point the target is (a) dead or (b) out of sight

the BEST equipment are dungeon only??

warriors Endure Pain gives 3 secs invulnerability on a 90 secs cooldown. you really want to compare this to thieves stealth? now I’ve heart everything… ROFLMAO

The video was captured pre patch. The ultra high killshots were caused by the piercing bug which has already been fixed.

So, whoever does the balancing of this game: thanks for fixing this issue!

So i have to randomly swing my sword which has piss poor range in a huge capping range to “cross my fingers” hit a stealth target to counter them and you people defending this don’t find this flawed? Have fun having no one to play against cause people will quit due to this BS and and you guys can enjoy PVD. If skills have no counters they are OP PERIOD. No if and or buts.

And if you actually lucky getting a hit on a stealthed thief, he doesnt get visible. No, its just YOU seeing he gets hit. Nobody else! lol

But hey, in 1 out of 5 tries you actually catch a thief in stealth. Its counterable. Everythings fine! So lets get this killshot thingy nerfed. lol

Other professions also benefit more from those stats. Measuring thieves on their benefit from toughness/vitality is like measuring other professions on their benefit from endurance. Different professions utilize differing defensive mechanics. Pumping vitality and standing in place as a thief is just as folly as a warrior going glass-cannon and trying to evade everything.

Other professions do NOT benefit more from those stats. Other professions just don’t have another option due to missing oh-kitten buttons like stealth or teleports for getting oor instantly. Other professions have to stack all that defense stats because they get hit all the freaking time.

Do you think its balanced when thieves can run full berserker due to stealth and other professions have to stack tough/vit for surviving spikes?

4s is alot of time when you cannot see your enemy. When you move in one direction thief moves in the opposite direction. In best case for the thief thats 2x the distance.

Im playing solo WvW since months, so I know a little bit what Im talking about.

Dont get me wrong. I dont want to see thieves nerfed into oblivion. I just think it shouldnt be so easy for thieves to escape a fight THEY have started!

The main problem with thieves is they can use stealth not only to open the fight but at the same time to end the fight.

Low on health? Poof, Im stealthed. Poof, Im teleported. Poof, Im gone.

Way to much escape abilities imo.

Stealth opener? OK. Massive damage? OK. Massive escape abilities? NO. Not all with the same build!

Have to agree to the OP. Downstate is great for PVE and sPVP but horrible for WvW. Each fight takes way to long in WvW due to the case that you have to kill each player twice.

As long as most people without high-end pcs kitten around with 10fps at lowest details in wvw, its useless for Anet to change any WvW gameplay.

Culling makes it even worth. Cannot count times when I ran into an enemy zerg and first seeing them when I’m already dead.

In PVE Im running around at around @ 50 fps with decent details. lol

Dear god.
This is the most overpowered class in the game and yet there are still plenty of you complaining.
I don’t understand it. I can’t understand it. Other classes are unusable and you all feel as if you’re worthless in PvP. You’re complaining about very minimal bugs in comparison to the fact that rangers have two weapons that don’t even work correctly, and necros had one of their trait lines completely unusable. Engineers , too, are no longer useable at all in PvP, as they took away their only viable build.

All of you who play warriors are getting the royalty treatment. Learn to play better instead of complaining about how you get hurt by classes that are far worse off then your own.

Be glad that Issiah and Jon Peters play warriors, because they’re the only class that’s ever going to receive any good treatment.

so we cant complain about warr bugs until ALL the other classes bugs are fixed?

regarding Fast Hands, very recently I saw a red post stating that Fast Hands is only bugged directly after equipping it, and otherwise functions normally after rezoning, after which the poster stressed that fixing this error in the brief window Fast Hands doesn’t function is exceedingly difficult. The trait will still work, just with an extremely small inconvenience.

Looking at the bug list on the Warrior board, most issues are either not profession specific, tooltip errors, or just complaints and not actual bugs.

your arguments dont get any better if you lie! a few major warrior traits are indeed BUGGED for ages, see fast hands or crackshot.

Hi there,

long time DAOC RVR player here. I really love WvW but I’m missing some kind of personal progress. I’m trying to like the WvW achivements but it takes way to long to fill the bars.

Please add some kind personal ranks to WvW. Each rank consists of (i) a title and (ii) an emblem (little icon, graphical representation of your title).

Both title and icon should be visible to all friendly players while in a WvW zone. Remove the 100% map icon for WvW instead (nobody really cares).

The icon should also be visible on enemy targets in WvW so you get a better clue who you are facing. Consider removing the green arrow icon instead.

Warriors Sprint (Discipline):

Does ONLY work while OUT of combat. Does NOT stack with swiftness. Don’t know if this is a bug or intended. But at the current state it’s entirely useless.

Imo it should stack with swiftness. At least it should work while in combat!

It’s totally useless right now, so I’d be surprised if they wouldn’t change it.

Thats exactly what I’m thinking about the various broken / bugged warrior traits. Unfortunately almost nothing has been fixed since release.

I dont think its a good idea to add more burst damage via discipline. I like the idea of gaining more run speed. It would fit into the trait line (see Warriors Sprint). But unfortunately also warrior sprint is either bugged or useless by definition, because warrior sprint only works while out of combat.

Im very disappointed that so many obvious bugs never get fixed. mediocre +% burst in discipline is just one of many flaws.
