Removing Pets isn't the answer.

Absolutely. They are stupid weak and easily taken out by a single AOE. In order for pets to be on the level with non-pet classes they have to be immune to a large portion of all AOE skills like 85-90% damage reduction. They have to have roles. They have to be smart enough to move out of AOEs or move from places that will suddenly get hit by one. And they have to have enough defense and hitpoints otherwise that players using standard single target attacks won’t take them out in 2 hits. In PVE they need to generate threat, that’s the whole point in taming them duh.

I also find it really sad that their F2 skills aren’t automatic and aren’t faster. Have you ever seen a panther in real life take 3 seconds to pounce on something? I sure haven’t because they’d be extinct if it took that long in real life! Same goes for the game. I also find it odd that these cats would have an in combat only stealth skill that one has to use manually? I mean hello they wouldn’t have survived in the wild if that were the case for how they use that. They need a permastealth option outside of combat for that to even be a thing.

As it stands now pet classes are terrible in this game. Is it any wonder they keep getting nerfed. I believe that the developers are part of the people in every game I’ve ever been in who put a stigma on pet classes entirely, that somehow they are all op and should be nerfed eternally. It’s sad too because they could have had a great set of pet heavy builds to add to the diversity of this game but they chose to stigmatize these classes and make them weak.

LOL, BlueZone. Congratulations on sifting through all my posts. * applauds * Its greatly amusing that you think you’ve one upped me somehow. Yes, I’ve played for rewards. But please enlighten me, because I’m apparently missing it, how that means I don’t also just “play for the fun of it”.

ZOMG! That player there is running with a train?! They must not play for the fun of it. All they must EVER do is play for LOOTZ. Like…. OMG!

But please go ahead and continue. Its amusing how you think you know me.

Actually, I DO ride a certain GW2 train just for the the LEWTS only and do so 5 to 6 hours daily.

I too find it amusing how somehow farmers have been made to be the badguys when we used to be celebrated in other mmos because we provided a service that other players didn’t want to deal with. Now we have the stigma of being awful terrible people because there’s a campaign against us by an mmo developer that people are just hyped up so much over it completely shuts off their brains from seeing anything objectively.

Then we have to folks who like to act like theres nothing wrong with the rewards system in this game, because getting 5 silver for completing a map is normal in a game where it costs thousands of gold to buy a single legendary or 500 gold for a skin, or a single 10 magic find application, 1 600 karma drop of purple goo, and a coin that’s not used in anything but a tiny few recipes is considered “normal” now. Seriously?

When people who are rational bring up any of the facts about this title the image below is all we get. We point out the RMTAH central focus of the TP, the double RNG on bags and their loot, how DR has become so bad that it’s actually deleting items from boss bags/boxes now and replacing those items with Unidentifiable Items (greys), and how the only thing many of us see drop as rares off anything anymore is Piles of Putrid Essence after thousands of game hours while others just plain call us names and tell us to go elsewhere instead of dealing with the issues at hand or actually proving that we’re wrong about these concerns.

What class would you most like to see in game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Niches we got filled:
- Warrior: berserker, weapon master archetype
- Guardian: holy knight, protector archetype
- Necromancer: death, curse mage archetype
- Elementalist: master of the elements (mage) archetype
- Engineer: technology, steampunk archetype
- Mesmer: illusionary mage, duelist archetype
- Ranger: survivalist, beastmaster archetype
- Thief: assassin, rogue archetype

  • What we lack:
    - an ‘evil’ heavy class: Executioner? Punisher? Blackguard?
    - technology/magic mix: Tinker? Alchemist?
    - non-heavy melee class: Brawler? This is partly filled by warrior.
    - heavy ranged class: Paragon-like,

We have no clerics and no Guards aren’t clerics/priests they are paladins. We have no bards, no artificers, no runecasters. Rangers are not beastmasters because A: the pets are dumb and weak even with full pet trait lines. B: taming on this game is a joke. C: there are no special skinned pets to obtain. D : All pet skills are slow as molasses and most are useless repeats of things the regular skills do already like condition stacking. E: Rangers cannot ride their larger pets as mounts. No shapeshifter/druid archetype.
No summoner archetype (of mythical creatures like demons/giants not just undead or elementals). No swashbuckler (no thief doesn’t do that well). No witch (no necro and ele do not fit this archetype). No Shaman. No Eastern Monk. No Mystic (spellcasters that have learned to channel divine energy without acknowledging or worshiping any diety).

Incidently I don’t think it was ever their plan to actually read the forums I believe they hang out exclusively now at Reddit.

Devs- "VIP" subscription?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

tigirius.9014

I made a thread recently, outlining how i envisioned a VIP subscription (which i am in full support of), which filled up quickly with close minded haters threatening to quit the game if such an option is added to it. I say, let the small percentage who will actually go through with quitting do so, and let the game improve and flourish on the increased income it will no doubt recieve by implementing VIP!

There were even some in that thread foolish enough to call a VIP service “pay to win”. Apparently they forgot that right now, the only way to efficiently get gold in the game is by directly buying it, which is the most direct form of “pay to win” in existance

Trust me I’ve been down that road multiple times with game developers, suddenly asking for a subscription after having an RMTAH and adding DR to a game this old would only harm it further.

A question about GW2

If you want free loot with no effort, then interactive games like Guild Wars 2 are not for you. In fact, there is a classic MMO that should suit your purposes just fine: Progress Quest. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progress_Quest)

How does asking for rewards that match the difficulty mean people just want something for nothing?

It doesn’t they just like to marginalize people who are actually making valid points but instead of directing their attacks at the points people make about historically how this system is flawed and destroyed whole gaming companies they’d rather attack the people call them lazy and tell them to go elsewhere.

Well guess what we’re not going anywhere. Either argue against our points or don’t post it’s simple, isn’t there some clause about not attacking other players? Well I personally feel that their statements that somehow people are lazy and want something for nothing is in fact an attack and they shouldn’t be allowed to post such arguments. If we eliminate the fluff maybe we can get some real suggestions going on how to improve the game.

I’ve also read recently an interview talking with economist who is in charge of the economy we have. He left out alot when he was explaining some things to the interviewers, like how there were loot bugs, DR bugs, the ability to login on multiple accounts for the same queen chest on the Island launch day that gave certain lucky people an enormous advantage with not one but multiple precursors to sell which adversely affected the economy because it created this games very own 1%. It allowed people an exploit which was never addressed. Since then the costs for anything that is functional or effective in combat or crafting has steadily increased on top of many items increasing in price over a few months of having that island event make these people very rich in game.

Other more recent articles have left out this history as well as the most recent of nerfs to open world nerfs to loot. Might I point out that one of the selling points of this game was that players could play how they wished and that no one should be forced to play only in certain ways. That means no one should have to WVW, Eotm, Train, or Run dungeons endlessly in order progress if they prefer the open world.

How can we expect honesty when we’re not getting the full picture of what’s really happening for the sake of the shareholders?*

We don’t need to know that information. Also, A.net does not have shareholders, NCSoft does. Since they are a Korean company they work under Korean laws not ours.

Besides, it is arrogant of players to think they are the same as shareholders.

I don’t train and I am progressing fine. Just because you think Trains are needed for progression, doesn’t mean it is the truth. The players that do trains are just lazy.

Thanks for proving my point entirely in one reply post about how players don’t actually attack the problem or debate they simply attack the posters and players.

Anyone who has an ounce of awareness can see that trains are a symptom of a larger problem with the game’s economic design.

Here’s an example of how alike the D3 economy was to the current model GW2 is using, D3 had an equivalent to trains did you know that? They have players that were posting online to form groups to farm certain areas/dungeons that were known to drop certain legendaries. The only reason why this wasn’t frowned upon like it is here is due to the fact that D3 isn’t an mmo but it in no way makes the design any less similar in the economics that were being used. Whole groups of people got together to “farm” events in the game in only certain high loot areas because all of the other loot anywhere else was nerfed due to the economic model of the RMTAH.

But keep on blaming the players instead of actually directing your disappointment at the design of the economy in the game because that’ll help. >.>

dafuk did I just read.

tl/dr: No.

LOL exactly my reaction.

I’ve seen this argument before, and the people involved don’t take into account A: modern economies cannot support subscriptions at the size of the only Anomaly in the room, WoW. and B: using subscription is no guarantee that DR will not be used on players, as we’ve seen by the number of games and game companies who destroyed themselves by adding DR to control loot for the purposes of their own profit numbers. C: adding a sub will further harm the population of the game D : that subscriptions do not guarantee that the money from the subs will be spent on content or improvements which Ironically is exactly what Arenanet helped people realize just before they launched this very game that the OP is enjoying by showing exactly what the Sub money goes to and it’s certainly not to the game. Might I also point out that many reviewers are already pointing out that the money that GW2 has made has not been bounced back to greatly improve GW2, it’s being spent elsewhere. People like Dontain on youtube made such a video about this very spending problem, so if they are doing this now with the current economic model they are running with a shoppe and the TP focused currency conversion system, what makes you think that anything at all will improve with subscription?

A Designer's viewpoint: Condition Caps

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: tigirius.9014

tigirius.9014

i know that a cap is really annoying and see the reason why it’s there in the first place, the way we should look at this is not how we can make conditions work better or how we can prevent it to hit the cap to fast but we should look to how the conditions them self work.
let’s take bleeding as a reference since it’s the most used condition AFAIK, how can it work better then it does right now?

let’s break it down:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Bleed
(0.05 * Condition Damage) + 42.5 per stack per second at level 80 "
so the damage is done per second

“Bleeding can stack in intensity up to 25 times”
it can only go as far as 25 times

all that tells us that the condition it self is there and works on it’s own, no one can really take advantage.
but what if bleed gives us the ability to evolve in to a different condition like crippling or deep wound, making it easier to take down your enemy while making conditions useful in DPS level.

let’s make a simple example:
a DPS build does about 1500 DPS while the current condi build only does about 800DPS, when a condition can hurt the enemy deeper (only in PvE for balance reasons) then a DPS of 1500 would be allot easier since you don’t need direct damage.

ofcouse they should limit this only when it’s in max stack, now you have condi spammers able to do the DPS a DPS-only player does.

ps. i would rather see a way to lower the DPS on direct damage to make conditions more useful but that’s never gonna happen.

A deeper conversion would certainly work say 5 bleeds = 1 deep wounds I like that for bleeding. I also suggested they increase the max bleed stack to 50 and the max burn/poison stack to 5 but conversion would work better because if it converts than it become a new type of condition and won’t interfere. For example, if burn was converted into charring (no pun intended) than it would no longer interfere with other people’s stacking of basic burns. If they made that so that condition builds did this under the hood it would be great!

I also like the ability for conditions to be removed from all of the skills and rebalanced so that the only time conditions are applied are when condition builds are in place in grandmaster traits. This would eliminate people using condi to offset their power builds and it would remove much of the unnecessary stacking we’re seeing from builds that don’t rely as much on that type of damage.

Basically Zerker would never apply a condition again under this suggestion which would eliminate much of the problem.

Public announcement: Gear stats and roles.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: tigirius.9014

tigirius.9014

Zerker has everything to do with balance. This thread is nonsense when even the OP admits that they don’t have the roles that even Anet came up with themselves. There is no CC, no Support, no Condition Damage builds when all of those builds have yet to be fleshed out properly. You can put on any gear you want on any class but not all classes are equal when it comes to heals, condi removal, boons etc for support. Their healing values aren’t even the same, some of the healing skills don’t properly scale even with gear.

CC is a joke because all bosses/champions are immune the moment the first CC hits them.

Condition damage is nowhere near the level Zerker is in damage. It used to be for the first two months but just before they announced Ascended and before they “balanced” PVP and before they separated the values in balanced so that PVP balancing didn’t affect PVE balancing , the second month of the game, they nerfed Conditions all across the board. The game has never been restored from that nerf. Add to that the disparity between the values on condition damage abilities (like Necro runes having an initial burst of damage before the damage from the actual application of conditions occurs whereas poison grenades only apply conditions and have no initial damage output to speak of) and then Add to that the horrible system of crits that still haven’t been updated on condition builds where when the DoTs do crit the damage is almost nothing compared to other titles with similar DoT focused classes that do burst damage on crits DoT builds or not.

So instead of defending Zerker builds how about you get on board with the rest of us in asking for balance to be restored, for these Arenanet roles to be restored.

Hobo Sacks: A Terrible Fashion Statement

One can fairly argue that they’re too focused on making $$ over in China to handle pressing NA issues with class functionality and customization.

  • Persistent clipping issues
  • Mesmer’s obscenely long buglist
  • Thief P/P set/Traps/amount of skills unusable underwater
  • Ranger Pet names/AI/Longbow QOL
  • <Insert other issue here>

The worst part is; fixing issues like this will only serve to increase the money ANet and their investors make. Happy players are more likely to toss some spare bucks here and there. Meh.

  1. Inherent turret weakness
  2. Imbalance between turret pickup cooldowns vs the cooldowns of traps, aoe fields, and healing zones on other classes
  3. lack of automatic interval condition removal on engineers
  4. bandages being the thing we drop when traited on downed even tho we are stationary

the list is long.

Actually no because while DR and forget it is the method used by this company, those other companies who teams of players that login to the servers to seek out these sellers and take them out, some even have methods of auto reporting when certain commonly used phrases are used in the chat channels (like $$$) and might I point out, that despite all of the things they’ve done to the open world loot system, every single nerf and every single DR tweak, and everyday I login and see bots and sellers here on every megaserver, so that theory you have the somehow their methods are working is dead. is GW2 in need of $$$?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: tigirius.9014

tigirius.9014

I don’t think a lot of people realize what financial managers of a company should aim to do. Their goal should be to focus on the investors. The most important ones being those that offer risk capital, a really scarce resource. It’s not just about breaking even or making a little profit.

That being said, I do wish this game was receiving the type of content it should be getting… There should have been an expansion w new dungeons, maps, and a continuation of the personal story. Of course new skins too. This is getting kind of ridiculous

Yeah, but its not really our concern. For players its just the psychological security that the game will still be there, and hence breaking even at least.

In my experience too, cases like Zynga (who’ve struck an oil field) and Blizzard with their empire of games are quite rare, just as rare as prominent companies with big games going bankrupt in such a short notice. Most game companies, big and small, are really just these persistent so-so performers that are breaking even with some considerable profits.

There’s also the tendency of some players to think that the system they are using is both successful and profitable when history has shown otherwise. It keeps being said that the use of DR the focus on TP and the focus on the gold selling isn’t the method used by the most successful game economists but no one is listening to the seasoned players who have been around the block a couple of times and seen entire games go down because of terrible rewards systems and an AH focused rewards system with real money direct purchase ui elements.

No one is denying they need cash that’s not the issue at all, there are both sub only and F2P only games that have had record sales every year without these tactics. What’s really funny is even in games where the STORE is the focus and people complain about the store being the focus the sales are off the scale because the game is actually rewarding in those titles but still maintains the so called dreaded “nickle and diming” system people love to complain about but which receive much better financial support from the community because A: it doesn’t feel like a chore to login and play and B: the goals are actually achieveable and not outrageously lengthy or a second job in itself to achieve.

There are plenty of better ways out there without using extreme RNG and extreme DR measures to harm farmers.

I suspect it’s yet another DR bug but I’m not sure. Even the Queen’s event has given me plenty of them. When Unidentifiable Objects are replacing rares, exotics, or T6 materials, you’ve got a problem that compounds the already scarce rewards players in the open world should be able to enjoy without restriction.

DR has done nothing to prevent the continual annoyance of gold sellers, isn’t it time to stop harming the players now?

[Constructive] Whole-map event vs. Zerg & AFK

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I like this. I personally would like to add that we need a whole map event tracking system for the current maps especially in places like Orr because people who aren’t within 5 feet don’t know that a temple run has begun and thus don’t port there because there’s nothing on the main map about it. Same goes for all maps.

Typically it’s the FPS games that have used open world events systems and they’ve learned that it’s absolutely necessary to track these things on the main map across the whole map so that players can at least plan, this is true now for RPGs that use the same system. We need a main map event tracking system for the entire map so long as players are on the same map.

A question about GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: tigirius.9014

tigirius.9014

All the last patch/update of gw2 have made the game harder. Trains are gone (queensdale and old frostforge) and dungeons are getting harder (some of the old tactics dont work anymore). People are quitting the game because best itens are almost impossible to buy and the best ways to make gold are being destroyed by gw2. From my usual group of friends to create a party (about 13 people), only 3 of them keep playing everyday since the last update. Im getting frustraded too and i just dont get what is the point of this.

thanks.

It’s part of their “no you can’t have loot” system in the open world. People like to talk big about it, we see lots of posts about how terrible farmers are, but I can tell you this. Farming is what allowed people to achieve their goals in a relatively reasonable time frame without destroying the fun without harming the game and without causing market crashes. What they’ve gotten here is a serious TP problem. Everything is focused on the TP, you can’t get anything without the TP, and you absolutely positively must grind gold out to get anything in the game that’s meaningful. That’s poor design. And this isn’t anything new mind you veteran players of multiple games have seen this behavior before from companies we’re just wondering when the advocates will wake up and realize “hey, it’s not supposed to be this way, not by honest standards and not by the standards they layed out for the game prelaunch.” instead of saying zombie statements like “don’t like it log into another title”

The other thing I find disturbing is anytime someone complains about the open world all of these dungeoneers, WvWers, PvPers come on here and say nasty things about the open world players but they don’t realize that the open world players are casuals generally and the casuals are what made this game’s sales because we outnumber the rest of the community vastly. WE are why they had to shut down the sales of the game after reaching just over 3 million to help them catchup and expand the servers before allowing sales again. People often forget that.

er, is making a game more challenging a bad thing? Is encouraging people to play other content a bad thing?
If all you do is train farm in the hopes of getting that shiny, that’s addiction.

Putting in mechanics and then making them completely useless isn’t making the game more challenging it’s eliminating tactics that classes were given in order to be used effectively against mobs. This isn’t the first time this has happened either, I’m playing a heavy CC heavy condition damage class right now, guess which two things they nerfed almost immediately after the game launched. That’s #1.

“#2” if they wanted to encourage people to play other content they would have implemented the promised rewards revamp we’ve been waiting months to see.

We’ve been discriminated the most the entire time in this game. It’s a CC/Condition focused class. Everything once could be affected by those two things but they’ve been nerfed to oblivion. No one said a word in our defense from any of the other classes in fact we were denied access to activities because we were told we were not Zerker enough.

So now the shoe is on the other foot while similtaneously they destroy the 1 thing that made turrets a tiny bit useful. The reflect shields. But this time it’s happening to other people not just us, and we’re hearing a great wailing from the deep about it now.

Where were you guys when CC/condi were nerfed hmm? What happened? Now because it’s affecting you it’s important huh?

I don’t get really get it why my post (or all mesmers?) becomes a target of aggression (instead of ANet’s design decisions). I main a mesmer and I feel that it matters, so I post it; you main an engineer – so go and post and cry enough to be heard. When you were nerfed, I haven’t been playing that game, and if I was, I wouldn’t have been maining an engineer anyway, so where’s my fault? As far as conditions are concerned, those are regularly discussed on forums and regularly ignored by devs as presumably too resource-heavy and game breaking.

As a mesmer, I can tell you that our class is being continuously bugged each patch and they even go as far as to put “buff!” and “class balancing!” labels onto bug fixes, or listing the same bug fix three times in three consecutive balance patches differently worded. We cry hard but are not heard… You cry hard and are not heard… And you know what – not being heard is neither mine no yours fault, so why hate each other?

1: My post wasn’t directed at you specifically. 2: Mesmers have an actual burst zerker option with range so cry me a river. 3: Mesmers also have an awesome downed state so again cry me a river. 4: The nerfs to the reflect abilities aren’t limited to the class you are using, it’s an ongoing process of them adding new mechanics in and then making them completely useless, they just started with my class before yours is all.

My post was actually commentary as to why it’s so ironic that suddenly reflect mechanics are the enemy after they just added them to engineer turrets. My point was also not against mesmers but against other players in the community who could care less about this kind of “balancing” when it happens to someone else but the moment it happens to their class that’s when they have a problem with it, and no you’re not the only one I’ve seen this happen in plenty of games forums over the years. Engineers did call for the communities help in trying to sway the developers minds about this kind of thing early on and many many many of them are now gone because they got tired of waiting, there were posts all over the discussion feeds about it. And that same logical fallacy argument was used against them, roll something else. Well I’ll have you know I have three other classes, guess what? It’s still not right that they balance this way.

An Appeal for Better Policies

That was a lie and players have a right to complain about being forced to craft and grind for said gear.

Yeah NO. You aren’t, in fact, being forced to craft and/or grind. Again it is something you and other players have chosen to do. Its oh so very easy to blame, or in this case complain, when you shake off the responsibility of your own stress and try putting it on others because you argue the equivalent of “I have no choice” – Sorry but that doesn’t fly.

In order to progress, uh yeah you are. Because top tier and the best gear isn’t from karma vendors, neither are most of the best kinds of runes or sigils, neither are the T6 mats that you have to gamble for. These things aren’t just dropped out of the sky for you, and yes vertical progression is in the game, that happened in Nov 2012.

Denying it doesn’t make it go away.

Not sure if they will use semantics there OP but Appeal might be construed as a petition by the forum mods.

A Designer's viewpoint: Condition Caps

yeah but the glasscannon berserker will die cause s/he needs to be upclose and personal and thus incuring damage while dealing damage. The necro does not. s/he can can focus on interrupting/dodging/fearing etc and still do maximum damage.

This is what attrition play-styles are supposed to be like. In theory, the ability to apply and kite should be balanced by lesser damage. The play-style provides greater safety but means longer time-to-kill.

In other games, the ability to apply DoT’s is also balanced to a greater or lesser degree by CD’s on skills that apply those DoT’s. Not so GW2, where condi application is often tied to auto-attack, which is happening all the time. This is unlikely to change, as it would require a major overhaul of combat.

The anti-condition complaints in PvP modes center around two things: “lack of counter-play” and “does too much damage.” While I don’t hold with the idea that there is no counter-play, I do believe that counter-play does require a build commitment that ensures one cannot have max anti-condi along with max anything else one wants. You can’t divorce damage done from counter-play, and I’ll leave the PvP pundits to decide if condi counter-play is balanced versus condi damage.

However, in PvE, mobs use condi counter-play somewhere between “very seldom” and “not at all.” In such a mode, too much damage can be measured against what direct builds can provide and be adjusted. If condi damage is considered to be “in a good place in PvP,” such an adjustment might be inadvisable — to avoid mode split. If that’s the case, Defiance could be given some ability to reduce the damage from condition stacks. Alternatively, a different boss buff could do so. There are often many ways to arrive at a desired sum via different equations.

In other words, “Does too much damage.” should not be countered by poor mechanics that mean, “You don’t get to do damage at all.”

Part of the counter-play complaint is the inability of some classes to be effective at condition removal. For example, condi removal on an Engineer requires 3 points into the elixir line and the turret and even then it’s weak compared to Rangers/Guards who have automatic removal without even using skills.

Also condi damage on this game is a joke compared to other titles say like WoW for example, where condis actually increase dramatically on crit so one can build a condi DoT build with heavy crit and it actually matters where here it barely does any bonus damage at all. Also in titles like LOTRO there are abilities on DoT classes that allow a player to lower the resistance to damage types like the LM ability that tosses out Tar which then dramatically increases enemy weakness to his fire abilities. (which is one of the things I suggested they add a trait for on Engineers when they nerfed Condi damage early on because we already use globs of gunk to slow or stop enemies).

These mechanics and others (like pet immunity to AOE) haven’t just been thrown together, they’ve been developed over years of problems in PVP and the problem with this title has always been that history hasn’t been taken into account. Every game has these pains when they first launch but hardly after so many great examples have seasoned players had to wait for developers to realize everything a title is missing.

"buy gold with gems" appearing too so much?

I see some people here talk about grinding gold and if the problem is that they now get less. For many the problem is not getting less when grinding gold but that getting everything requires (grinding) gold.

This not true. Everything available on the TP was actually acquired by players themselves. You can earn stuff yourself but people choose to go the gold route because farming gives a disproportionately high return. If it takes an hour of farming to get 1 corrupted lodestone why farm it when you can spend that same hour farming gold and buy 15 of them!

The point is when you buy 15 of them you bought all 15 from 13-15 people because rewards are so terrible that you can’t farm anything yourself. You HAVE to use the TP seriously or you’ll spend months.

Look at any guide on youtube for any other game and you’ll see that you can actually farm the top tier items needed for anything. Look at guides from youtube about getting what you need for this game, guess what they say, yep, grind gold and buy it.

Yeah thats indeed what I talking about.

It’s amazing isn’kitten People live in denial no matter how many examples or facts you provide they are still somewhere where reality doesn’t touch them. weird.

And to the person above, no they (blizz) actually didn’t consider it a success, not when they changed it, they were very apologetic to the players that it so drastically affected gameplay. Hopefully the same will happen here. And don’t get me wrong I’m all for supporting game developers but there is a wrong way and a right way of doing it and this is the wrong way as history shows us.

Make more tools, make lots more store only whole sets of armor, add new professions and new crafting systems that’s fine but remove the requirement to have everything bought in the TP in order to do anything. And this isn’t some small thing I understand that it will take alot of work but I know they can do it because other titles have in the past as well. They’ll have to restore loot to what it was in the open world during the first two months of the game, they’ll have to remove DR entirely, they’ll have to give bosses in the open world (including champs) as many bags/boxes that dungeons/WvW receive, they’ll have to give better mechanics to their teleport tracking system so they can catch bots properly, and they’ll have to reset many of the orders on the TP and restrict drastic highs and lows so that people can’t drive the market into the ground like they are doing now.

The alternative? Wait until some other titles come out and not provide any solution and BAM most of the playerbase leaves for something that doesn’t require grinding for gold all the time.

It’s part of the list of items that were promised months ago that we haven’t seen. I have no idea what the delay could be, especially in this case where it’s a simple ui element option change that allows you to turn them off in the settings. Really not that hard to code according to my programmer friends.

But being an Engineer main, I’m seeing a pattern of delays to any concerns Engineers have on anything really.

I like to imagine that when that dev “promised” to do something about it, what he literally did was write a note on a kittentail napkin which he then set his drink on. The drink sweat dripped down and smeared the ink. The janitor threw the kittentail napkin away that night. The next day the dev looked around thinking “crap where did that note go… Oh well I’ll make a mental note.” and then he went home and watched sports center. By the end of the week he had forgotten all about it. Fast forward to today. The end.

This happens while talking to a buddy the buddy starts talking about things that he doesn’t like when he plays the engineer class not because he likes to but because he has to because it’s his job to (since there’s no one else who’s an advocate and likes the class working there) They drink the beer that the napkin was sitting on while talking about things that aren’t an issue at all, while ignoring the forums entirely, they put together things that they shouldn’t change but want to because they think it’s fun.

Thus the change to Kit Refinement was born.

“They’ll say it’s extraordinarily grindy“ He can say it’s untrue but it very much is true.

When reading on in this article he even describes it. How everything is money driven and you can’t get things in a good other way then gold so the best way to get thing are to grind gold. So yeah thats why the game is extraordinarily grindy.

Also “There’s nothing wrong, at a basic level, with offering armor and weapon skins through the gem store” is strage because later he does say that much of the thinks he mentioned (about how everything go’s by gold) is because of how the cash-shop works. What he means here I think is that he thinks they could tweak it a little. I don’t think they can tweak it a little. The problem is that they focus on it.

Yep and we’ve already seen how that affects certain games. It’s happened to other mmo’s as well in the past but the most recent best display of how it can adversely affect a game is D3. The sole difference between D3 and GW2 is that D3’s RMTAH directly took payments of real money for items in the AH rather than required an exchange system.

We’ve given them all kinds of ways of changing the game so that it’s no longer a disaster in the economic focus of the TP how rewards are no longer restricted from commonly completed daily processes but they’ve ignored them all.

This isn’t a new problem it’s been going on since launch, but at time goes on and they focus on what people are saying in Reddit rather than these forums even their own suggestions forums are ignored, it’s getting worse and people are starting to wonder why they should even bother.

(I know you didn’t say these things I’m just adding general statements to my agreement with what you said)

Has anyone else seen the latest article by Anatoli Ingram over at Massively on his article written for Flameseeker Chronicles, where he basically tells everyone that all of the nerfs to open world loot is all in our imaginations. That’s right folks, the past two years never happened. The 9 months we waited on the infamous original loot bug, the constant dropoffs of loot when we login, the sudden no drops from anything even when we teleport to a new location, the T6 material drought, the double RNG on bags, the DR that hasn’t stopped a single bot from logging in since it’s been created, and most recently the Unidentifiable Objects that now drop from boss bags, boss chests, and those special daily rare boxes are all in our heads.

I’m not sure you read the same article as I did, as he mostly comments on how unrewarding most of the systems in the game are to nearly everyone. The article pretty much echoes what is found posted in the forum threads.

http://massively.joystiq.com/2014/06/03/flameseeker-chronicles-the-strange-case-of-guild-wars-2s-rewar/

“GW2 showers players with loot and rewards.”
They’ll say it’s extraordinarily grindy, that there’s nothing to work toward, and that ArenaNet is intentionally making things harder than they should be so that we’ll all give up and buy gems. This is confusing and frustrating to me for two reasons: The first is that all of those things are demonstrably untrue.
There’s nothing wrong, at a basic level, with offering armor and weapon skins through the gem store — the issue is the lengths to which it’s been taken in GW2 at the cost of making the game itself less directly rewarding.”
“…and if you want a direct drop you’re almost always going to find it less frustrating and time-consuming to farm for it indirectly, if at all possible.

While he does admit that they could do better he acts like we’re thrown coin like stuff is just falling from the sky in our laps, then he admits that only 2 places actually gives us anything while telling us similtaneously that we’re being unfair when we are talking about places like open world events and mobs. Like that doesn’t exist or isn’t supposed to be the key focus of the game. This game was supposed to never require any player to step into a dungeon ever again as quoted by one of the interviewers before launch because as one of the devs being interviewed put it “the reason why we’ll be adding more content to the open world is due to the ability to streamline content so much faster than in a dungeon. Building a dungeon from scratch is harder and more time consuming that building an event in the open world.”

So here we are with focus being directed away from the PVE open world, with nerfs to loot that aren’t mentioned by the article in fact he acts like they never happened in his comment replies below btw. And he all but insults the playerbase who’ve been saying that this game’s rewards system is terrible for 2 years now.

Yeah it’s the same article, but once again they missed the mark, and it’s yet another writer of such an article that doesn’t get why there’s a problem, he touched on 1 aspect of it, things we do like jump puzzles and other activities don’t really reward, but he avoids the problem of eliminating rewards from the open world PVE zones and acts like the open world rewards have never changed and are on par with the rest of the game when we’re continually seeing nerf after nerf.

RIP Crimson easy mode

edit from reddit:
When it was discovered we asked specifically about it and the answer we got from developers was that this is intentional. The change was also not mentioned on the patch notes which makes me think it could be a bug. We need to wait until we hear something though.

I also want to add that you can still block eggs, the same method used blocking the husks.

So far what I’ve confirmed is working is untraited wardens and obsidian flesh on elementalist. Both require timing and obsidian-flesh-method needs three very precise spots inside of the wurm. This latest wurm me and my team on amber managed to block around 60% of the eggs.

I suggest that everyone here go and immediately make a reddit account so that we can get the devs to notice what’s happening with the game because it’s obvious they don’t come here.

Like putting in a Bloodstone Brick, 250 Bloodstone Dust, 1 Mystic Salvaging Kit, and 1 Crystalline Dust to get you, say, 10-20 Crystalline Dust. I could get behind that.

(Note: I’m not complaining really, as I’m fine with the change, but I still want to see more uses for Bloodstone Dust.)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I disagree. Nourishment and potions are amazing for more than just endgame. Proper use improve the leveling experience as well. Getting rid of them just because you think it trivializes content (I’ve never seen this actually) at the expense of losing this incredibly useful feature of foods and potions seems to me to be a bad idea. Why have more grind?

I agree. Not sure why this would be viewed as a good idea unless the OP would also like them to remove all stats from gear entirely because that’s essentially what his logic requires when taken a step further. If you want to do that to improve the game remove all stats because stats give an artificial boost to only certain players who have them so why not, it would make the game all about skins 100% and people wouldn’t need stats on gear to progress. While we’re at it remove all sigils, boons, and runes. Who needs them right? They are just in the way and only causes problems for the players who can’t afford them, do people need to make them or buy them? Are they making them to make the game easier? Why have sigils/runes/stats on gear at all? Will it improve the game without them?

The next logical step you see in the line of reasoning.

Understandable.

I guess I just feel forced to use it, rather than want to; and this feeling doesn’t sit well with me. What may seem like a strategical use of items and timing to me feels just like “kill faster with food”.

Well you know I thought about it and I actually support the logical progression.

Take all stats away from gear, adjust all players to have the stats they need per level in scores and character.

They can make more special effects from runes, improve them all, add 25% run speed to most of them like they should on the superior.

And change food so that there would be changes to the spells if people eat certain kinds of max level food similar to what we find in the systems like card games and D3 where you eat something and it changes the behavior of a skill dramatically.

This would totally make people rely on skill and as a bonus it would force Anet to branch off some of their 300 people into the field of cosmetics and we’d see a flood of cosmetic items enter the game like no other time in history.

Engineer downed not healing

So I was playing yesterday and changed to my healy spec for Open World Orr events so I could be at a distance and throw grenades and heal folks.

I was downed before I got to the area several times and noticed something. My throw junk ability 1 actually hit multiple mobs like it was an explosion. Thanks for that.

However I noticed something else while in this build. There was a severely limited range on the explosion. Now I didn’t have time to mouseover the thing to look but when putting traits into the explosive line I choose things like bigger explosions, and the burn effect. Is there no way to allow the #1 ability on our downed bar to be affected by these traits to make them useful? That way we can actually kill the enemies to rally?

I also was in my heal spec which does include explosions have healing abilities. Well imagine my surprise when I noticed that not only does my downed state mini explosions don’t heal, but neither does the booby trap. And when I got back up I tried other abilities. Suddenly the missiles weren’t healing even from the F bar, the big ole bomb didn’t heal, the mine nor the Fkey mine skill didn’t heal.

Is there a new bug or something? Can someone look into why all of these explosions aren’t healing? And can we please get the explosions to heal improve size and damage from the explosive line on our downed state options when specced that way? That right there would be a huge help!

3 big economy problems

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: tigirius.9014

tigirius.9014

Completely agree with all three. But there are two other major issues with the TP. First they made it the center of the games experience. There is no farming to be had, you go out you manage to get a few items from the drops that do occur and you sell those for gold to buy what you do need, that’s not farming the items you need yourself, that’s farming gold to be able to buy these things. That’s a terrible system and it goes right along with your first item.

Second is too much RNG seriously why are bags from the laurel vendor a random item drop when you open them? If you’re going to spend laurels you should be able to buy a quantity of the exact T6 item you need for crafting, there should be no mystery, no gamblingto this. There’s also the issue of gambling in the farming of bags. You have an RNG roll to get a bag, that’s modified by DR, and an RNG roll to see what comes out of it, also modified by DR.

DR has gotten so bad that I’ve personally witnessed getting Unidentifiable Objects from boss bags this past week alone! I mean cmon you can’t even let the bags be free of DR? Bug or not it’s ridiculous and it’s NOT the first time we’ve seen this behavior, remember all of the boxes disappearing from champions and dungeons? Yeah that was DR too. And this is aside from the fact that DR has done exactly 0 to get rid of gold sellers.

I don’t think it is the center of the game experience. I mean this is not a P2W game with the TP. If you want to use it, fine, if you don’t, fine too. This is the point. Nothing in the TP is needed and everything you get there (except for the armor skins which are EXTRA).

What makes the TP front and center?

If you look at the Gold Sellers, they are stealing accounts – as many of the accounts do not have 0 achievement points (as they did before) – many have 400 or more (meaning stolen accounts). If people would not buy gold, they wouldn’t be in game but people do so it makes the rewards out way the risks.

What makes it front and center? Hmmm let’s see the double RNG gambling on T6 materials comes to mind, the fact that rares don’t always drop from open world or bosses, the fact that Unidentifiable Object has become the newest in a long line of continual bugs with DR comes to mind.

When you can’t farm adequately without spending an entire month or more on a single item ( Dontain, a game reviewer on youtube, I think spent like several months trying to get up enough of the materials he needed for his legendary) needed to fulfill a 250 item requirement for crafting, that’s a problem. When skins sell for 540 gold a piece that’s a problem. When runes/sigils sell for 12-15 gold a pop and are only available from the gambling style drops that’s a problem. Unless you’re looking from the point of view of one of those lucky accounts that never seems to fail at getting loot no matter what happens in a patch.
