Bite the bullet and buy a black lion. I was getting zero with my mystic. Got a black lion and was gettting 3 per exotic.
I hadn’t realized that craft xp was nerfed. That sucks.
It’s like, every single person who is ok with ascended gear doesn’t even know WvW exists, or else only see it as an inefficient way to get loot by tagging bodies in a zerg. All they see in the game is their silly PvE skinner box of “work and rewards”. There is no possible way to argue with them because they want the game to be work.
For me, ascended gear would be perfectly fine if it was downscaled to exotic stats in WvW. Don’t dilute our competitiveness with this extra grind nonsense.
This is false. I WvW primarily. I hadn’t done a dungeon, dragon, or temple for months until the ascended patch hit.
The difference between SPvP and WvW to me is that WvW allows me to equip myself with all available game items with stats and everything about them left as is. It is pvp with my character as they are not in a vacuum. Whenever they add something to the game, whether it be gear, traits, or skills, I want them available as is for my character in WvW. If WvW were turned into a vacuum like you are suggested, like SPvP, I would quit GW2 the next day.
Ascended gear just adds another thing for me to do to the game. My 1 and only issue with the ascended gear is that they need to adjust the WvW availability of the mats. It should be just as easy as spamming CoF and afk auto attacking dragons to get those mats in WvW. You should be able to trade large amounts of badges for those mats in bulk.
Go to orrmaps and cycle through the maps until you find one with the chests all laid out. Run through each chests on each of your 80s. I made about 150 in an hour doing this.
At the least, allow us to purchase upgrades to our collection holding capacity.
I gotta say, as much as I was looking forward to ascended weapons, I am really disappointed with their execution. As a casual player (once or twice a week), I have enjoyed that I don’t have to participate in a gear grind to stay at the peak of the game. Ascended weapons unfortunately have killed that. It will take me months to craft even one ascended weapon at my rate of play, not to mention what it will take in time and resources to outfit several characters with several weapons.
This to me seems a major departure from the kind of game Anet has told us they intend to make for their players. No gold stars from me on this one.
Yes because everyone should be forced into the play style of a casual player that only plays once or so a week.
You’ll be fine with exotics. There is nothing wrong with putting stuff into the game for people that play the game regularly.
So how do you plan to obtain Dark Matter without the involvement of RNG?
Yes, because obtaining Dark Matter is nearly as difficult as obtaining a precursor without spending absurd amounts of gold.
In addition to what the OP said, I won’t be going for a legendary as long as their functional benefit is the same as exotic. Just like ascended weapons are stronger than exotics, legendary weapons should be stronger than ascended weapons.
Post here if you’ve finished the Jumping Puzzle and/or any levels of tribulation mode solo.
Looks like he didn’t change his mind, so we are really going to see BG, SOR, and JQ versus Emry Bay and Crystal Desert. I have no idea what Anet is thinking.
Okay, can we, the WvW community, elect to pass on the season concept in favor of receiving more updates……
Yeh, I don’t even get on siege anymore unless im running with my guild it is absolutely needed and no one else wants to do it.
4.
Waste of effort to bother ranking the others.
I can agree with this. It is going to be bad once ascended armor comes out and you need like 700g worth of stuff to get all of it.
I’ll be completely honest. The TC guilds and guild commanders are awesome. However most of our better militia commanders have started running tagless unless a situation arises that calls for a tag.
Retal has already been nerfed enough. Stop running berserker if you are dying from it.
Anet I laughed out loud when I opened that box. Good job. That made my day.
This topic definitely needs to stay bumped until someone listens….
They make plenty of money. They are expanding their living world team plenty.
Until there is some tangible way to get a precursor beyond absurd amounts of gold and rng, I won’t even start trying to make one. Given that legendaries don’t have any unique stat boost, I don’t see the point.
I thought only the new weapons were being introduced tomorrow, so why is everyone already theorycrafting armor?
I’m already happy they even bothered adding these things to WvW and not forcing WvW players into PvE.
Rewarding these for defense is a bit of a stretch considering how easy it is, guy tags gate, you slap 2 supply on it poof you get bronze.
Maybe it wouldve been better suited to add these as drop to the WvW chest. That way any form of WvW contribution can award these materials. Then again, the WvW chest is a bit bloated as it is. Look on the brightside, camps also have a shot at one of these mats. Thats good news for the roamers!
I imagine that it’ll be faster if you PVE. You can get a lot more champion bags from just champion training for an hour than you can get in WvW for multiple hours.
Some people will transfer to winning servers. They’ll then see that they have to deal with mega queues and that the reward sucks. They’ll then transfer off of the winning servers.
So, don’t do Teq. There is a number of other dragons and stuff in the world that don’t have such high requirements. Surely they can put in one high pop raid boss without you all getting up in arms….
Some how, I think they are going to make it so that this doesn’t work, but it is certainly worth trying.
Or they made the invasions, knowing people would stock up on boxes once the news came out that champ boxes would drop those mats needed for ascended weapons. So people could have a head start. We could stock up on Crystals during the previous LS too.
But that’s not why I’m collecting them. I found it was faster to just not open them and leave them in my bag between invasions… If they drop that ascending material, oh well, from what I’ve seen there will be slots for them in my material storage. I won’t be crafting any ascended weapon any time soon…
Like I said, it is most definitely worth trying. However, if it doesn’t work I won’t be shocked.
Your reward will be based on the server you log into the first time once the season starts. You can transfer as much as you like, but you will still get the reward from that first server.
So a spy can transfer off their home server to spy and still get the rewards from that.
A server that needs a spy typically isn’t winning, so it probably won’t be an issue.
From what I can tell, you need 500 or so of certain items that only drop from certain places. I imagine that won’t be easy to do.
Some how, I think they are going to make it so that this doesn’t work, but it is certainly worth trying.
To bring in more gem sales. Many of the refined mats can be bought on the TP. So, even if you have the mats you need to refine, you can only make one a day. Therefore, you are more likely to just trade gems for gold so that you can buy the refined mat straight off of the TP. The prices are probably going to be staggering at first, so it’ll net a nice bit of profit for them.
It’s basically a way of forcing everyone into a position of needing to spend gold since you can’t make what you need even if you have what you need to make it.
No but life isn’t fair.
I like this, although I’d be fine with back to back 3 day matchups as opposed to your idea with the dead zone at the end of the matchup.
So do 4 leagues in NA. This eliminates the enormous population difference from server 1 to server 12 and 13 to 24.
If you really think the server that is ranked 12th at the start of this stands any chance against the top servers you are delusional.
I never said they did. However, I’d argue that they do in fact stand a chance against the 6th ranked server and the 5th ranked server. We are not trying to only ever match you up against your closest comparable server. That was what was happening with the system before and it was bad. If you are saying you don’t ever even want the chance to try and show your skill against a higher ranked server, then I don’t know what to say.
We will continue to look into ways to change scoring to try and even out some of the population based imbalances, but that is not an easy task and it won’t happen during the season.
You really need to rethink this. The current 1st rank server should never ever ever be placed against the current 12th rank server. It shouldn’t even happen rarely or once per league cycle. It should simply never happen. The league system should take this fact into consideration.
You are setting this system up for failure if you don’t alter it so that silly matchups never happen.
Having 4 leagues would be a perfect solution. EU shouldn’t have more leagues than NA. The top 12 servers in NA range between 21k rating and 14k rating. The top 12 in EU range between 16k and 19k. EU servers are much closer rated than NA servers, which means that NA servers should be more split up than EU servers not less.
I challenge you to give me one reason why it is a good idea to put JQ against YB or Emry Bay.
(edited by timidobserver.7925)
NA will be 2 leagues of 12 servers, not 4 of 6. In addition server merges are not on the table as the population of the game as a whole doesn’t suggest they are necessary.
The 4 of 6 sounded so much better. With 2 leagues, we are going to see something like SOR and CD in the same match up at some point. I was very excited about this, but now I am pretty disappointed. I play on TC, and we have been plagued with blow out boring match-ups lately. 4 of 6 would have really kept competition amped up to some degree in all matchups. With 4 of 6, there would be good match ups most of the time.
Consider making it 4 or 6 please. We really don’t need to see the number 1 server versus the number 12 server because that match-up is just a waste of time.

3. The player must meet some form of minimum activity requirement or lose his registration for that season. (we can discuss what constitutes activity worthy of receiving the reward i guess.)
The season long reward will require you to complete the WvW season meta achievement. Which behaves much like the Living World achievements. The server for which you receive rewards will be the 1st server you log in on once the season starts. Any transfers after that will not change your rewards.
This is good and it works just fine. Although, I think an “Activity Score” would be better. Basically, based on the amount of WvW activities you participate in(killing people, taking camps, building siege, defending keeps, ect) and the time you spend WvWing you get some kind of score. That score would then be used to determine your reward.
In order to spur competition I think the winners need to get the better reward, but definitely the most improved reward shouldn’t be too far behind it.
So, is anyone else finding many of the Queen’s Gauntlet achievements to be somewhat bias against guardians? Bias in that yes everything is technically still doable, but it is much harder to do on a guardian.
It seems like Anet is punishing me for not leveling a Mesmer.
Fortunately the top servers are all at full capacity at the moment. Should help alleviate the problem. With any luck, the reverse will happen and top tier guilds will transfer to other silos.
Imagine if, for instance, a 500 man SoR guild transferred to one of the servers in the “bottom 6” tier. They’d be (almost) guaranteed to win every week.
Believe it or not most of the people on the top servers like competition. They are not going to transfer into a borefest in order to receive some piddly reward that will probably be something like 4g a win.
I’m sure for a lot of people that’s true. I’m sure for those with the mentality of “all that matters is PPT and winning,” they’ll find some lovely little server to completely stack.
If they wanted to do that they would have done it already. Point being, some piddly reward isn’t going to spur them to do it. It’d have to be something quite significant to cause this effect, and I don’t really see it being a significant reward.
They did already do that. It’s called “SoR.” Case in point.
With the new system they go from having to find ONE server to do that to having the option of FOUR servers to pick from as “always wins” servers.
So it is a previous problem given that SOR already did this. Nothing in the new league system creates this possibility of a big guild going to a smaller server.

I think that making game content that is painful enough to exclude the vast majority of the player base is bad game design.
Are you implying that everything niche is bad?
I don’t see that anywhere in my post. Having an update that has majority niche rewards and majority niche content might be bad though.

Just wondering say if hypothetically Sea of Sorrows wins silver league and say Dragonbrand comes last in gold league would that mean SoS and Dragonbrand will swap for the next season?
For this to work the difference between t1-t2-t3 really needs to reduce, especially t1-t2 so maybe reduce the queue size like now to help people settle in.
I don’t think they are comparing the leagues against each other in terms of moving people up and down from one league to another. So, the bottom of silver league will be the exact same as the bottom of gold league and vice versa for the top. So the server at the top of gold league will get the same reward as the server at the top of silver league, because the league’s won’t be ranked against each other at all.
The leagues probably won’t be altered on the fly. They may be reorganized like once every 6 months.
The reward will probably be something lame and not worth transferring to get. It will probably be worth exactly 15% less than the cost of transferring.
I think personal story is the element that GW2 is weakest in. Overall, your character just seems like an average nobody. I was a huge fan of the epic feeling that the The Old Republic managed to put into their story.
Well he said it may seem like bad game design. That means he’s one step closer to admitting that it is bad game design. We are getting somewhere…..
I’d never claim to be an amazing designer. Only that I do think carefully about the design choices I make. Any time an artist chooses to do something that will be less popular than an alternate choice they know that they will be called a bad artist by many. Goes with the territory. It’s like (and I’m not comparing myself here) film makers such as David Lynch and Kubrick who makes movies/shows with purposefully ambiguous symbology and unsatisfying endings, or musicians like Bjork who will randomly release a virtually acapella album. These decisions limit the audience and make a lot of people who do stumble across their media angry, disappointed, annoyed, etc. And then say “That was bad.” Again, I’m not saying that my work is anywhere in the same league as Bjork or Kubrick. Only that there is a common phenomenon where people who don’t like a particular style, or find something that doesn’t fit in the popular established mold tend to assume that it is therefore ‘bad’.
Hey, maybe my work IS bad. I’m just trying to make stuff that I personally love to play. and it seems like there are others like me. At least enough to keep my quirky little project going!
To better define my statement, I finished the original SAB exactly once and never thought about going back into it again. I’ve got it set in my mind to finish the new version on normal difficulty mode exactly once. I couldn’t even begin to imagine trying to do it with some crazy difficulty mode that is designed to be unfair with illogical mechanics, which is what tribulation mode sounds likes to me.
I think that making game content that is painful enough to exclude the vast majority of the player base is bad game design. Then again, you get paid for it not me, so what does my opinion matter.
Overall, I am just tired of the new insta kill mechanic trend. I imagine that tribulation mode will be brimming with insta kill stuff.

I’m trying to wrap my head around as to why anyone.. and I mean anyone, would be opposed to them adding stronger gear options. Seriously, 5-10 years from now, is anyone still going to be happy to see the exact same exotic gear we have now?? Get real.. You should want to have new/stronger gear.
If your worried that someone people are going to have some weird major advantage because they’re in ascended gear and your not; don’t worry. If the ascended weapons and armor follow the same difference in stats that the current trinkets do, the numbers are going to be negligible. It’s the main reason why I never bothered with ascended trinkets because the minor raise in stats just aren’t worth it. On the off chance the new ascended weapons and armor require laurels, i’d rather spend them for cosmetic purposes rather than an extra 100 power.
What they do need to do is the materials needed for this new ascended gear needs to be as readily available in WvW as it will be in PvE.
Guild Wars 1 and 2 are casual heavy games and the casuals are very entitled. So, someone that stops playing today and logs in 2 years from now expects that they should be just as strong as someone that actively plays the game for 2 years.
I welcome this change.
Same I don’t have a problem with it at all. You can get all the materials to craft from WvW and the one that you get the least of is the bricks from champ mobs since there arent alot of champ mobs in WvW.
It’s time-gated anyway so people don’t have it on day 1. If you don’t like crafting then I am not really sure what to tell you tbh. They come out with the blogs etc telling you what is coming people don’t look at them I suppose and then are upset like Anet surprised them.
I am fine with gear progression. I’ve always liked it in small doses, which is what Anet gives. The only issue I have with Anet gear progression is the amount of time they want people to put into getting the gear.
OP doesn’t like the itemspire (is this a new buzzword? I thought the buzzword was power creep)
I don’t mind it and I would prefer if I could buy it day one. Person I quoted doesn’t mind it but doesn’t like the time restriction on it. Who is right? Who is wrong? How do you please all 3 types of us? You can’t have to find middle ground as best as they can = not everyone will be happy.
I understand why the time-gate is there because I would just buy what I need and make it with in 3 minutes of the patch going live. If I was allowed to do that then someone will make a thread and say “omg what about us that don’t have alot of money?” :GW2 is pay to win" it’s a never ending cycle.
The mats will be available on the TP, even the time-gated ones, so yeh you can just buy it and make it.
Also, yeh, thanks for misstating what I said. Time-gating is inactive and lazy. Getting these ascended items should be involve active steps, not 99% waiting.

He’s right. Assuming you can get your hands on a precursor, it seems like going for a legendary would be much less hassle.
Well he said it may seem like bad game design. That means he’s one step closer to admitting that it is bad game design. We are getting somewhere…..
Crafted precursors should have their own set of legendaries.
That way, people know who the real “legendary” players are and who got their legendary from easy-mode crafting.Top lel.
Just because you want your legendary (which you doubtless have already) to be a unique snowflake, doesn’t mean the devs should sit back as prices on the TP continue to skyrocket.
Clearly crafting procedure shouldn’t be easy (perhaps involving crafting together one of each ascended stat of that weapon?) and should probably result in an account-bound version of that precursor, but there should be a CONSISTENT method of obtaining it rather than shelling out gold in a kittened market or becoming the king plumber of Zommoros.
If nothing else, the existence of a consistent method will place an approximate upper bound on tp prices.
At first thought I agree with you, but really I can see where this person is coming from. Nothing is more annoying than putting in a ton of work on something to have the game devs suddenly make it 100% easier.
Nice a thread with WvW people actually asking to be left out. I never thought I would see it. Well I disagree with this thread. WvW should get the new stuff as well. I like being able to use my stuff in WvW. It is the primary reason I don’t Spvp.
