Yeah still not seeing why anyone would want run them outside of raid.

You may not see it, but it’s rather obvious that other people do want to do exactly that. Just as before HoT people wanted to run other stats that Berserker.
Anet tried to make content-limited stat sets before, and it has never been met by a poitive reaction. Why would they want to repeat that again, and lock it behind content that is already generating a lot of negative responses in the community, i have no idea.

Anet’s gone whole hog against their initial, “Play as you want” philosophy. It’s really pretty sad.

The thing is Viper is way less effective in almost any situation outside of raid at a much higher price, why would anyone want that. Also if you really want to there are exotic version of them, although can not think of any reason anyone would want to use them outside of raid what so ever. It’s like buying a medium fries but wanting to pay large fries price.

I couldn’t stop laughing when someone here used waypoints, vistas and points of interest as “content”.

Btw, there’s certain people here who will ALWAYS kiss Anet’s kitten , Raziel and Vayne are two of them.

And we couldn’t stop laughing when you posted this after he already clarified that it’s simply an exploration aspect, just like GW1 landmarks.

yep golden adventures is the only way. and i cant even do silver shooting range, because once the adventure is available, there is 50 players shooting around and it is very distracting for me

Actually no golden advanture are needed to max mastery, you only need silver on a few.

HoT only got 7.5 oj meta critic because there was forum campain that tell people on forum to bomb HoT with 0. Seriously look at these 0 do these people even know what a 0 means? It blew my mind.

Agree with point 1 and 2, great ideas.

Number 3 however,the complexity of such system would make it nightmare to develop and expand on. And gw2 coding is already a huge mess, could probably break the whole game.

Oh really? so you mean HoT does not deserve that high? There was campain on both side to bomb HoT with 0 and 10s, fact proved that there are way more people enjoying HoT than people who are not. A 10 and a 0 net a 5 which is terrible game so 0 and 10s does not cancel each other out. Also are you gonna ignore the fact that most critic and gaming site gave HoT a positive review, or are you gonna say Anet paid them all.

Fact is forum is only vocal minority and are far from actual opinion of the vast majority of gw2 players.

I don’t mind harder content. It’s the gated content that bothers me. That HP in SW Auric Basin, gated behind leyline gliding. Got it today thanks to a kind Mesmer soul. Would of taken me a few more weeks of mindless event and or mob grinding.

BTW, I’m 45 and still going strong, I work entirely too much though, but it is what it is. If I had mindless hours to burn maybe all this gated stuff wouldn’t bother me soo much.

Umm, actually for that AB hero point you dont need ley line gliding or portal. If you look carefully there is a Nohoch wallow.

Didn’t even know about that one. Well can’t argue about 0’s being pointless, but then again i wouldn’t say HoT is 10 off the bat either. Extremes somehow balanced eachother there.

A 0 and a 10 result in a 5 with means a terrible game. A 0 and a 10 does not cancle each other out. As showed on meta critic we can also see there are more people like HoT than dislike. I don’t think HoT got score it deserves.

I think your title named it well – the fun factor is missing. Or rather too much of it has been replaced with annoyance after annoyance; limitation after limitation, a new currency every 30 feet, new ways of slowing down progress or a new death wish just trying to harvest materials.

It used to be that the cursed shore areas where places where you couldn’t linger long enough in most areas to enjoy the artistry and creativity of the GW2 world. Now it’s just trying to stay alive while passing through most areas of HoT. And I see others doing the same, like riding a bike in rush hour traffic, just trying to get from one spot to another while spending the least amount of time in-between, with far too many ways of being slowed down, limited, hampered or outright killed. On exiting these areas or dying, I keep expecting to see a sign: Leaving HoT; Don’t come back. Gliding should be a good exploration device, but it’s more often an escape mechanism.

There is still a lot to enjoy and I do, but it’s getting harder to find. At least I can stand at a crafting station without being interrupted continually or hoping someone will res me…

Seems just the same as you jumping into nearly every thread to white-knight for Anet.

I expressed my opinion ans said what I think ia right, whether you agree with me or not does not change the fact I’m still discussing the topic. Yet the guy I just called out posted something that is compeletly unrelated to OP.

Funny that because I don’t.

I just look at the number of mastery points I need for the next mastery. (Like I need 10, I have 1).

And then I think that’s a long hard grind to get those points.

Yes it’s the dreaded grind, nobody can deny it.

Well you could only get same mastery point once so exactly how is it a grind when It’s your first time play through the content? Do you know what grind is?

Who says it’s unnecessary? I love the new HoT maps especially because they are complex and 3-dimensional, and you can’t just glance at a map and go wherever you please. These maps really make me explore and learn the ways, and I’m having so much more fun than I ever had with MMO maps before. These maps look like they’ll keep me busy for a long time, learning to navigate them, trying to figure out how to deal with the mops on my different characters, and finally collecting the goodies I want for whatever goal I find (disclaimer: I don’t have a whole lot of game time, so this might take me a while longer than people who can play for several hours a day).

I’m starting to slowly memorize paths, find shortcuts, and hidden nooks and crannies, and overall get more comfortable with moving around the maps. They are complex and maze-like, and that’s absolutely why I’m enjoying myself. Don’t take that away!

P.S.: to the poster above me: there’s a fairly straight path to the start of the jp in Verdant Brink that’s accessible any time of the meta cycle, no need to wait for choppers at the end of the night.

I am on the same boat with you, I really felt like new maps are making me a better player. I’m a thief aka squishist thing in game. At first I was like this is stupid I keep getting one shotted how is this possible but after changing my stats and learned mob mechanics I rarely dies. Complex and maze like maps are so fun to explore, I never saw the point in exploring old maps simce they offers 0 challange other than time while HoT maps require actual thinking to get done.

If you think GW2 animation is clunky you should see the animation of other mmo(outside of few new ones), gw2 animation is literally god tier.

Don;t even get me started on eso. I came here from 9 mths in ESO.
I had 4 v16 Chars and you think the grind is bad here, the champion point system in ESO has been an absolute disaster. The LAG is horrific, there are more bugs put in to the game in updates than removed on each weekly update and there are very few hot fixes. The landscape and environment is generally worse and there is very little to do once you’ve maxed everything. Coming back to the champion points, I was on about 400 and something. The top players were on 1-1500 or so and there was a hand full who had already gone over 2400.

Now, I wouldn’t say that GW2 is a walk in the park. I have one lvl80 and working on my second now, but I would say that removing the Basic Guild options for smaller guilds was a strange move. And I won’t get in to Crafting yet as it confuses the hell out of me – I just need to spend some time understanding it.

I do however, love TP and the economy – which for me is a big part of the games – personally.

omg Yes ,finally someone played ESO too here. That dat champion system made want to smash my monitor into my toilet. ESO did some thing right like on lore but that dat champoin points and clunky animation are so bad after a month of play I was like , NO I can’t take this nomore.

I think one of the reason I don’t think mastery is grindy is that I played too much actual grindy games. Like ESO, Skyforge,FF14 and most of all I use to play Mayple Story way back. Doesn’t feel like GW2 is anywhere close to actual grinding after my experience with those games.

This hero point is supposed to be gated behind Adrenal Mushroom Mastery (a little box pops up talking about the mastery and what it does when you start it), but people are using mesmers and regen food to circumvent that.

My guess is they want to fix it so there’s no way to get the point without using Adrenal Mushrooms Mastery.

I’ve done it on 8 toons so far and it didn’t require any mesmer or food. Just had to wait 5s after eating it and then spam the 6 key and the heal got you through it with about 10 health left. I’m hoping they aren’t going to change it to make it harder after so many have already gotten it as it was. HoT zones definitely don’t need more difficulty added :/

Umm, I’m quite the opisite actually my problem is how useless some mastery level are for the amount of time needed, Poison lore should be lv1 since they are basically useless.

Grinding out bran dead exp certainly is a kind of accomplishment.

I mean, you level up mastery you can travel HoT more easier, etc you will glide faster, access secret passage, its more “meaningful” than grind for armors

I don’t know, maybe those trinkets provide a significant advantage in say WvW. Those who don’t have the means to engage in the raid content to acquire these items would be a disadvantage in the other game mode.. no?

I actually have no idea on the trinkets effectiveness but they do like promising. If suppose it does give players a significant advantage in WvW, would it not make sense then to have those trinkets available across all game modes and not just locked behind 1 set of content?

Kind of the same thing many people have said before.. don’t lock items behind one particular set of content in the game.

Umm there are exotic version of them , also viper is significantly less effective if in a competitive environment because the burst condi is lower than sinister and condi removal is a thing. Yeah still not seeing why anyone would want run them outside of raid.

Might as well say that to all other pve content, tell me one piece of open world content that requires anything other than zerg full of people press 1. At lease in HoT if your whole zerg is only pressing 1 you fail events(well at least some)

Viper’s is, effectively, better than Sinister at damage-over-time.

The stat combos have just as much use elsewhere as they do in raids.

Viper is only more effective over sinister if the fight last long, and unless you count mega bosses the fight doesn’t last long enough for viper to see use at all.

HoT and the Maguuma jungle is certainly NOT faceroll easy and it is clear that this is the direction Anet wants to take the game.

Ok jungle might not be face roll easy but it’s still pretty easy if you know what you are doing and not wearing pure dps stats. Why would you want to use viper and crusader in open world jungle tho? they are way less effective than some other stats like sinister(because mobs doesn’t last that long), knight(Crusader is way too overkill on tanky side).

Viper and Crusader are stats set only see play in raid and if you are not planning to raid the. why would you care in the first place?

100% unsoloable. You will not be able to experience the majority of the content without getting on to organized maps and working together with many other players. 100% map completion is possible solo, as long as other players have already worked together so that you have access to all areas of each map (so yeah nope, not soloable).

I know right? God it was so annoying when i was trying to solo the map. I was doing a HP, and all of a sudden someone flew in, and I was like “Dude! I’m soloing this! Go away!” and he was like “No way dude! I need this too! So I’m helping!”. This happened to me twice so far, so I just finally said in map chat “Okay dorks! I’m going to try and solo this HP here, but since none of you dweebs can stay away, might as well come and ruin it awhile!” And they DID!

But on serious note I can relate with you too, it’s so terrible that these random people always come in and ruin my solo experience. I mean I have dat mad skills and tried to solo Tarir and people just keep come in and I was like why you bunch of terrible people ruining my solo experience dude I have to solo all HoT content . People these days smh.

How is Anet following other game? Is there any other game with similar progression system? Why would you not feel accomplishment with higher mastery? you get new abilities and features, is that not infinitely better than gear treadmill?

Making more SW maps? seems like you enjoy press 1 for hours to farm gold more than actually have to use your skills huh?

Also mastery is not the only thing you work towards, there is new legendary weapon, legendary back piece, legendary armor. And pvp league is coming in a few days so there you go.

OP, if you are still clicking your skills like I just saw on one of your youtube vids then this would explain why you are having difficulty with the content, sure HoT is harder than vanilla GW2 but you certainly do not need a zerg to get through areas, I’m sorry but this is a learn to play issue.

I’m not sure what relevance my playstyle has to do with my thread and it saddens me that all you could say is ltp. I always find it amusing how many people come on this forum and accuse Anet of not letting them play how they want, yet some of those very people will come on here telling others how they should play. I’m fine playing the way i do. Not that it’s anyone’s business, but i do have problems with my hands due to a car accident and its the only way i can play, but tnx for your input anyway.

The thing is clicking your skills takes way too long and makes way less effective as a player. You are more likely to die because you can’t use skills fast enough, I’m pretty sure not even new player click their skills. If you actually do that you really should bind your skills to comfortable keys .

My suggestion would be to use a gaming mouse and bind hotkeys to your mouse that way you don’t have to reach for the key board.

It isn’t comparable, because those were standard eight years ago for a MMO of eight years ago. And I expected this exact company to improve eight years after, but they did not.
Should I also mention that EotN introduced four REGIONS, each comes with lots of maps, only for you to say “but those maps don’t have the amount of vertical exploration”?

You can’t compare numbers of maps in two different games, we only have half of Tyria in GW2 while having multiple continent in GW1, does that mean GW1 has 10 times more content?

Eyes of the North:
- 41 new armor sets, including rare, stand-alone pieces
- 100 new profession-specific skills (10 per profession, none of which are elite)
- 50 new PvE only skills including 3 elite skills
- 10 new heroes
- 18 Dungeons
- 124 new quests

And the list goes on. What took ANet today two and a half year to release a half-kittened DLC pack with four maps gated hourly and by masteries, eight years ago it took them significantly less to introduce three full campaigns and a full-fledged expansion.
ANet today isn’t the same as the old one anymore. It is now at best a pitiful attempt at cash grabbing, feeding on the mouth of gem whales and milking the former glory of what GW1 was. Leeching the old ANet, even.

41 armor set- human only and way less detailed, no large amount of animation and clipping issue required to make.

new skills-Comparing number of skill doesn’t make sense, some of the EoTN skills are copy paste version of others also I think pure number wise HoT is not too far away.

10 heroes-GW2 has no such system, so you can’t compare that.

18 dungeons- dungeon is no longer the focus of GW2 we have raid so there is that also most of those dungeons are kind of face roll.

124 new quest-Again different system, maybe let’s compare events? Dude I think HoT got way more events.

I like to raid, I don’t like the timer on raid, you have to abuse TS to defeat the raid bosses… anyone who beats Raid Bosses without TS pls put a video on y0utub3! I think I will see one video in half a year or one year! That hard is the raiding content! It should be done without abusing other things… if it is such a good game, why do we always need TS to defeat world bosses, do meta events…?!
Don’t tell me that Teq and DS are world bosses and meta events and don’t require TS, then look at TD needs TS, Raid content needs it to (2 example already)
When you require TS, if not —> you fail 100%, then it is the proof that something is wrong there…

Abuse TS? What you mean abuse do you know what abuse means? What’s wrong with hardcore content require communication?

Disagree with most but agree with some of your points

I actually really like the first two act I think they are amazing on both mechanic and story What I hate is Act 3, act 3 is terrible everything is just rushed through. It felt like we skipped 2 month timeline, I think they ran out of time towards the end so have to rush act3.

Having to fight big group of mobs makes more sense story wise, why would Mordremeth send one or two guy to deal with your squad.

Small guild is about people, you and your friends. You don’t have to upgrade everything in your guild hall, guild hall progression is said to be last 9 month and a guild of 10 people can gather resources slowly towards that goal, they won’t ditch you because small guild are made by friends.

For me personally the masteries didn’t quite deliver what I expected. This bleeds into content.

When I heard about unlocking Itzel language I expected that whole new storylines/dynamic events would get unlocked. When I heard about gliding mastery I expected reaching new areas with new dynamic events.

Instead masteries are mainly good for one thing: unlocking more masteries. The Itzel doesn’t tell you interesting things about his culture, he doesn’t start a new event… he just gives you a one liner and a hero point. Gliding mostly helps you taking shortcuts or unlocking more points.

TLDR: Masteries don’t unlock new content/ interesting stories but more hero / mastery points.

Can you imagine how mad Official forum would be if they lock Events behind mastery, riot 24/7 of course. #gating content #this expansion is too small #gw2 is dead

Yeah .. i also bought the 100 € version, and have spent maybe 4-5 hours max in the
new areas, and have absolutely no interest to go there ever again.

So what did i got for that ? A (not even full skilled) Reaper and Dragonhunter and
Tyria mastery. Heck .. not even some new armor skins, and that in a skin based
game. Oh forgot .. its now all about raiding like in every other MMO.

Ok, I said this so many times just because it’s raiding does not mean it’s like other mmo raiding, first it’s skill based some may argue ascended gear but if you are good at what you doing and has good communication with your team your 2~3% dps doesn’t matter, other mmo raiding are gear based they introduce higher gear tier with every raid and gw2 doesn’t. It’s hardcore content community always wanted, so I don’t get what you complaining about.

Also Reddit, if you want accurate representation reddit is the place to go, also a lot of post are made by a few people posting multiple times so thousand is kind of exaggeration , it is nothing compare to the GW2 population as a whole. The fact is people who are unhappy are way more likely to post on forum, and bad post here can not be down voted to oblivion like reddit.

If posts people simply disagree with are downvoted on Reddit, how is that representative? Doesn’t it simply mean that whoever gets there first, their opinion is the one on top? Be it positive or negative?

Reddit currently agrees with his opinion and so it is an accurate representation. If/When opinion on Reddit shifts so that it no longer agrees with him it will be biased and inaccurate.

Well…
1) there are people who have simply given up on the game and left without leaving feedback,
2) there are people who have simply given up on the game and said so on these forums, but nowhere else,
3) there are people who dislike the changes but grit their teeth rather than voice their concerns, and
4) there are people who dislike the changes and frequent the forums (which are the official forums for the game and don’t require creating a separate account) but don’t use Reddit.

Believe it or not, there are plenty of MMO gamers who simply aren’t social or don’t care to get involved in online discussion.

So I’m not sure why you’ve decided that because one channel (not even an official channel) agrees with an opinion, it is an accurate representation. There are countless people on these forums who are actually going out of their way to say “STOP COMPLAINING” (yep, in caps) in existing – and sometimes even new – threads. Taking Reddit information by itself is a very poor sample.

Are you just gonna ignore the fact that HoT maps are way bigger and pact than core game maps, tons of new features? Also tell me on MMORPG that offers the same amount of content in expansion compare to core game with same price, HoT has so much content compare to wow expansion(first patch of course), FF14 expansion(weekly/daily dungeon token gate).

I think those numbers can be just PR talk. Usually after initial explosive increase in population, only a small fraction of players that stays after MMOs go F2P. So you measure those numbers not in the first week of F2P, but after 3-6 months have passed.

Because dungeons are fun? Think about new players, that didnt grind them for 3 years until their fingers started to bleed.

Also a few days ago GW2 got 10k viewers on twitch and usually we only get 3k, so 7 k people just randomly decided they want watch pvp now right?

And ingame ads saying “Go watch pvp on twitch” have nothing to do with that?

They were there for every pro league?

Did you seriously just attempt to use twitch to get an accurate sense of player population!? The sheer fact you had to resort to that is proof enough of desperation. Furthermore this game lacks districts so If you’d like to share how you know 10 instances of DS existed then please I’m all ears. However if you say you based this off of 10 separate LFG requests for DS than that too is desperation. DS is every two hours and every two hours just prior to the reset and right after the reset the calls for taxi go out and those ten request will literally come from a single map. There is usually one active org DS and a hobbled together map that gets organized as it goes.

Even SW is being completed with less than a full map these days as a simple check of LFG and you can always find a spot for VW. In the day maps used to get full at the 70% mark and this is bad because the vast majority of request remain SW as the reward system in HoT is so poor people have returned to SW and DS to farm for loot.

Twitch viewer are part of out community and represent the amount of people caring about pro scene, A massive increase in viewership can represent a fair amount of pvp population.

I know DS has 10 overflow because friends and lfg, taxi a few then join on friends and guildies for a few, some of the maps are empty while others are full.

Pretty much Megaserver was a way to mask shrinking numbers as prior ever single server had there own individual maps and events. You had to guest to other servers back then to even complete the most basic of events and during lving season people would always bum rush one of the 3 only truly active servers and I usually went to Blackgate.

With Mega server what used to be 10+ maps of lets say Kessex hills is now only a single map and when that map is full it creates an overflow amp. There are 24 US servers and that used to be 24 map instances the only accurate gauge to your servers population is core WvW however my WvW server like many others is dead. I’m also rather sure the reason they don’t inclusde district travel is because then people will know how many instances of a particular map exists and thus they’d get an estimate of how active.

Are you joking? Then please explain 10+ overflow for AB and DS and mega server telling you the map is empty while I zerging with hundreds of people.

yeah, the instanced maps with a ~150 player cap does create an illusion of not so many people playing. Also that might count also the asian region(China) which is separate from NA and EU and probs has atleast as many players.

The number of times I’m plagued with “this map is closing” crap every day I don’t think it’s an illusion.

I am not really surprised by 3.1 million number “after” the expansion, but am a little bit surprised by the 1.5 million active monthly users before free to play.

So… what does this have to do with HoT? They wrote “since it switched to free-to-play” not “since the expansion launched”. The increase in active players was caused by the F2P switch, not the Xpac. It would be more interesting to know how many “formerly” active players (from the 1.5 million) are still monthly users.

It was mentioned that the population increased to 3.1 million After expansion, ehat it means is that player base been increasing after f2p and spiked up player base after HoT and has doubled the player base.

Very skeptical of the numbers and it probably includes every region, including China.

I’m not sure how they measure numbers without subscription. If they are going by monthly login, that could be counting a ton of players who log in as little as once a month, which lowers the pool of active players significantly. As in, if you log in all the time, you may only see a fraction of the monthly pool.

It’s also possible that if they are lumping regions together, one region could only house a small percentage of the total active players compared to another. And then factoring in time of day too, your pool can get even smaller.

I don’t think anyone would be surprised if Anet is doing well monetarily and even less surprised at Anet heads talking positively about the game (what else are they gonna say “we think we’re on the way down”? lol). How the alleged numbers impact day to day play for any given individual is another matter.

That said, it sounds like Esports are only becoming a higher priority for them over time, so if you play for content other than Esports in GW2, except to feel like the red-headed stepchild for the foreseeable future. Sounds like they are seeing dollar signs and picking up momentum in their rush for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

It’s unlikely that GW2 is doomed in any way. It’s just going to change a lot and shed/gain players until it hits the spot they’re looking for. No one can stop the Esports train. Chug chug chug.

Well they said it’s Active users, but I’m not sure what qualify as an active user. Actually I think Esports could go somewhere, we had almost 10k people watching on twitch during ESL, it could be possible for GW2 to achieve Esport. If Anet give us SOLO QUE and proper ban system for AFK PLAYERS. Seriously Anet if you want GW2 to achieve Esport why these two features not in game yet get on it Anet.
