Never had any of those problems when I ran a merchant stall on my old MUD, but maybe you’ve just been playing some awful games with some awful people. -Sid

It was a F2P mmo and was quite awful so maybe some of the problems I listed wouldnt occur in GW2. You cant deny it would destroy the economy and cause insane inflation though.

Since you can’t buy new legendaries off the trading post they should have PvP tournaments where you could win won. Not all PvP gear should be obtainable in PvE but all PvE gear should be obtainable in PvP for the reasons I stated earlier.

I disagree that all PVE gear should be available in PVP. PVE does require skill, if not on the same level as pvp and certain encounters require extensive knowledge of mechanics in order to succeed. (liadri ect). PVE exclusive rewards show that the player has achieved this.

Even disregarding the skill requirement on rewards, PVE exclusive act as an incentive to take part in content and act as a visual comfirmation you succeeded. Unique rewards are vital in ALL game types, not just PVP, to keep content relevant and repeatable.

Take for insance ele lava font and eruption. Both have short CD’s and are a powerful combination providing aoe might and fury. However the cost of switching to earth to achieve this combo is high due to the significant dps loss of being stuck in earth attunement. If there was no CD eles could literally sit and spam lava font eruption for insane condition and power damage as well as granting themselves might.

Your suggestion to increase the CD on these particular skills would not be effective as other ele builds, such as ones that rely on lava fonts low cd would be ruined. This would create hell in balancing and would basically be a total rework of every class.

And this is just 2 skills on a single class. It gets so much more problematic when applied across every single class.

Overall i think its FAR too much work for something that, so far, hasnt been much of a issue.

Shame you cant really setup selling stalls in the openworld.

In aion I would buy hundreds of cheap tri-aether jelly and go to a hotspot of player activity in the open world and setup shop. Listed the jelly for 3x the price I bought them. AFK while at school/work. Come home sold out. But I mean, if you look at aion economy you should be glad gw2 is how it is atm.

Gotta disagree here. Selling outside the TP is horrible because:

Chat spammers advertising WTS x all day long
Inconvenience for buyers having to trudge around viewing shops all day to get a decent price instead of playing the game.
Clutter from tons of stalls.
Much higher risk of scammers (e.g putting an extra 0 on the cost of an item)
Lack of TP gold sink would mean inflation would get crazy really fast.

I’ve undercut significantly on high ticket items simply because I want to ensure a fast and easy sale. Undercutting by 5-20g means that I’ll have less competition and won’t have to relist my order every few minutes to make sure I’m still on top.

A lot of people will see that significant undercut and just decide to wait until my order has been fulfilled rather than try to match me. I’m paying a premium for this benefit.

The same applies for selling.

Nope, I’ve seen many sellers undercut 1g+ prices. It does nothing to discourage other sellers. U’re just reducing ur potential profit.

While other people may undercut the 1g+, its alot less likely to happen than if you undercut by 1c in the first place.

It still happens of course but not frequently enough. IMO its worth the loss of 1g or w.e just for the higher chance of the item selling quickly, and ofc the convenience of not having to relist over and over.

Africa server Needed.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: zombyturtle.5980

zombyturtle.5980

I Dont follow? There are plenty of gamers in Africa, enough to fill a Wold of warcraft server, Dota servers and much more. You have to wonder if the lack of African players in gw2 is due to the latency to the far away server, and not the lack of ‘potential players’?

Honestly I think the issues are MUCH larger here in GW2 than you are considering. The games you mentioned are 2 of the largest games in MMO history. Most other MMO’s including GW2 do not have close to the population of them as it tends to be more of a niche market. I highly doubt even with a dedicated server the population would be sufficient to justify the costs.

Again its important to remember that you would not be able to play with any EU or NA players whatsoever so the entire game population for raids, world bosses dungeons, silverwastes ect would be dependant on 1 sever. Its likely the worlds would seem totally dead.

The WvW issue is a major one as unless Anet disable it completely, which would annoy tons of players, there NEEDS to be 3 servers to compete. There is no workaround for this as wvw is hard coded in this way and it would basically require rewriting a huge part of the game to change it. Which Anet just wont do for obvious reasons. Its impossible to change this.

I really sympathize with you and it must be so frustrating to play with that ping. Id be totally for African and oceanic servers if I thought there was potential for them to be successful but the issues are just too great currently for there to be any chance.

- Can’t they leave veteran players anything to differ them from new players?
- Have I bought game for nothing? I’m basically same as free to play player.
- Can’t they come up with different kind of rewards? So lazy! Or make replicas of stuff like other games – slightly make selfless potion different color or something and we could tell from which event it was from.
- I have saved one old item for 2 years.. waiting for the price jump high so I could sell it. It’s now really priced and I will RIOT if they release it. (not even naming the item to give Anet any ideas)
- It doenst even make any sense to give out S1 rewards. Where does all these toxic and scarlet gears come from? Grave robbers?
- It clears any reason to even play the game. If they can release anything back again later – why bother to get items now – or next time – or ever.

1. They have birthday and achievement rewards for this purpose. I feel they are way more suited than an item from an event where the only real achievement was being in the right place at the right time. I would like a wider range of birthday or anniversary gifts though.

2. You buy the game to get full access to play all content lol.. im not sure why you bought it otherwise.

3. Agree with this, would rather these specific rewards would have been held back for the rework of s1 living story.

4. This is really all on you. Its a risk you take when you play the TP. If you will be that upset if the price drops id recommend you sell now. Nowhere were you guaranteed that that specific reward would never return.

5. True lol

6. While I agree rewards are an incredibly important part of a game, if thats the ONLY reason you play, and only for scarce rewards then im not sure why you have chosen this game as its the opposite of what you seem to want. Gw2 has always been about enjoying experiencing the actual content more than the reward given.

I agree with you on almost all points. As long as the rewards require the same effort to get I think its great they are brought back.

The only thing that concerns me is if they rework living story season 1 into s2 style, I think those items would be better fitting as rewards for completing that content, rather than being earned through unrelated events. What rewards will ls s1 have if everyone has already earned the old ones.

cause of this

the people dont want cosmetic ones only.
the people that want cosmetic ones only are a very very small part.
most of the “we want mounts fraction” is this
one:

I just want them for fun. Just like mini pets and all the other fun stuff in the game. I would like them to give a speed bonus though.

Personally I would love more cosmetic only mounts. And i dont want to see speed boosts. It disappoints me that im grouped into the same category as my voice gets drowned out and its unlikely ill ever see more cosmetic mounts. There is too much controversy over a stupid detail like a speed boost which puts anet off even touching anything mount related.

Are you not on an always on internet connection? It is highly unusual for isps to have such a short lease on an IP address for their customers for always on internet. Who is your ISP?

No, in Germany and most european countries it’s common that the ip changes every 24 hours. The router will loose it’s connection (mostly around 2 or 3 in the morning) and reconnect with a new IP address. This is to ensure privacy. No person can be identified just by knowing their IP address (except if the police forces the provider to hand out the information).

Yes this. Im in the UK and use BT as my ISP. It resets at 2am every couple of days. Its possible to change to a static IP using 3rd party programs but its alot of effort for 1 game as my ISP only offers static IPs to Businesses afaik

Most of the time I prefer doing dungeons with zerk fast groups but sometimes I enjoy joining all welcome parties and having a relaxing run.

The question I have is how do the creators of casual/all welcome groups feel about this.

Of course I never bring up other players builds or try to force anyone to change anything about the way they play.

I also let other members dictate the pace of the run so I don’t accidentally rush ahead and ask if we are skipping or clearing at the start.

With this in mind..Does it bother you that a player is in zerker gear in your group?
Would you care if that player uses ‘meta’ weps and rotations and does things like might stacking during fights, as long as they dont ask u do to the same?

Why can't we have tails

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: zombyturtle.5980

zombyturtle.5980

They would clip horribly and basically be incompatible with all charr characters. Anet cant really make skins that exclude certain races because people would complain about unfair treatment. You already see complaints with skins that are designed for human races and stretched to fit asura and charr. It would be 100x worst with tails.

If they did release tails they would have to release something else specifically for charrs which costs even more time and money so its unlikely to happen.

I actually do love tails in games and have nothing against people wearing them but yeah..charrs create a huge problem with this in gw2.

Dynamic IP and authenticator

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

zombyturtle.5980

your pc is behind a router and you have DHCP (in router settings enabled), then you can let the authenticator “remember this network” (checkbox).

Yeah ive tried this option and its still happening so i guess i have a pass through.

Both location and and pc name can be spoofed. the old login screen actually not had an authenticator, but just a login. the username/password where saved locally.

while IP-adresses can be spoofed, there can always only be one of them active on the internet (private ranges excluded cause they are only active on the internet behind a NAT). That makes sure that the game will always verify you computer if they know something changed. Doing what you said would decrease the security to the same level as it was without an authentication.

I guess I will have to live with it or remove the authenticator then. Thanks your your help and input

Got the new authenticator for GW2, windows version as my phone is never charged and I hardly use it. Problem is I have a dynamic IP which changes every time my router resets, which it does several times a week for a few seconds.

GW is making me reuse the authenticator every time this happens which is getting abit annoying. Is there any way to make it remember my location or PC (as these never change) like the old authenticator in the login screen used to.

Thanks

Games in general dont let you play as children due to the moral/ethical issues surrounding it. For instance children carrying swords/gun fighting killing and dying isnt a great image to sell a game on.

Then you have problems in MMO’s with people Rp’ing mature scenarios with child avatars..

Personally I dont feel this issue is that significant (its a game not rl) but its a hot topic and one that people have quite extreme reactions to, so its pretty certain this will never be an option. Asura seem to be GW’s answer to a childlike character due to their stature.

These days every dungeon advert I see are something like “P1, 80, exp”, okay doing p1 but requires level 80 and experiences players?
What if I have a level 80 but with no experience and wish to garner some?
How can I gain experience with the dungeon if I do not get a chance to?
Ever tried hosting a dungeon in private (if possible) instead of a pug?

What you do is create your own LFG with the description ‘p1 casual run all welcome’
Once it fills, which shouldnt take long, 10mins max, you tell them you are new to the path. That way you can find people who are willing to take it slow and teach you the mechanics of the dungeon.

Alternatively you can head over to the dungeon forum where there are ‘Dungeon Mentors’, highly experienced players who allow you to sign up for one of their teaching runs. Its stickied at the top of the forums. Remember to say if you are NA or EU.

Another option is to watch the numerous video guides of the dungeons where players will explain each aspect of the path. Its boring but can let you learn the path instantly and let you jump into more exp groups without being instakicked if thats what you really want. Some might be out of date though.

Final option is to join a guild and group with members. People are generally much more tolerant of guildies and much more willing to help than they are total strangers.

Remember it gets very tiring to teach new players over and over every single run, and sometimes exp players just want a smooth and fast run. Their playtime is as valuable as anyone else’s and they should be able to spend it the way they want, as should you ofc.

what makes me sad about builds..

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: zombyturtle.5980

zombyturtle.5980

Noone is stopping you making your own builds and playing them as much as you want. The only times players will have an issue is where you enter their groups or teams with a build that is really unoptimal, when they have specifically asked for an optimal built team member, as it negatively affects their playstyle and their fun.

If you respect these requirements and avoid these groups you will have np playing any build at all. Just join everyone welcome groups.

Is gw1 still worth buying?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: zombyturtle.5980

zombyturtle.5980

If you are looking for an MMO experience, guild wars 1 is not it. While people do still play, its in their own small circles of friends, you will almost never find random people to team up with. That part of the game is pretty much dead.

However if you enjoy single player or co-op strategy games gw1 is pretty great. I played it after gw2 launched and enjoyed each campaign. Was able to complete all the storylines, all regular missions and half the elite missions with just AI teammates.

Its very very different to gw2 in almost every way however. No jumping, no moving in combat, hundreds of skills, reliance on positioning over skill. Totally depends on your taste. You might want to check a few youtube vids to get a feel of it before you buy.

If you do decide to buy it Id advise starting with nightfall to get heros (the customisable AI teammates) and play a melee class, paragon warrior ect. This will allow you to make use of the enemy AI through bodyblocking to have a much easier time with the more difficult content. Ranged classes can do this too but tend to be more squish and its harder for them.

Id also say look at gw1 pvx builds after you have finished most of nightfall. I know people have said you can get by without them, and you can for normal mode content, but the huge range of skills (loads of which are useless) can be really confusing for someone totally new to the game. And you will need decent builds to get through the harder stuff.

Alts of the same class. Your reasons why.

No, people having requirements in LFG didnt ruin the game for anyone apart from intolerant people who cant stand to see others playing in a way they dont like. Heavies only and AP requirement comes from a place of ignorance and I agree its a daft thing to ask for but the intention behind it, to find exp people who dont need carrying, is fine to request if needed.

now imagine if every one acts like that. you join a group, get kicked, join another, get kicked again, another get kicked again. Until you get “lucky” and find a group of completely new players. How would that run go? plenty of wipes and no one teaching you what you’re doing wrong.. so there is no growth and next time you’re going through all this cycle… until eventually you get fed up and quit.

No. These players can read one of the thousands of guides or watch one of the hundreds of video tutorials that vet players have made specifically for them, in their free time. They have done their part in helping the new players and devoted time to it. If new players dont wish to use the help given its their own fault and therefore should have to stick to runs with wipes.

Noone should expect vet players to spend every minute of their gaming time teaching others. Their time is as valuable as anyone elses and they should be allowed to spend it doing what they want, even if its a speed run to get quick gold.

Also many vet players create anyone welcome groups and teach new players when they are in the mood to do so. Theres even an entire sticky for guild and teaching runs in the dungeon forum.

On topic, I do not want a part leader system. Its too easy to troll when you are immune to kicks and, even without the troll issue, immunity brings out the worst in people. You get people who order the rest of the group about, are rude and insulting and threaten others because they know there is nothing you can do about it.

I wish there was a simple way to fix this but there isnt, as its a problem with players not the system. If everyone respected the lfg there would be no problem, unfortunately this isnt the case and the only thing Anet can do is provide a system that helps the majority. That means ofc that the minority, people who solo or duo dungeons are at a disadvantage but there isnt much they can do.

The only improvement I can see that doesn’t cause more problems is making pugs unable to kick until they have been in the group 1-2 mins, and also make them not count for majority kick vote ofc. But that’s more work for anet and with their limited resources, and how long it took just to get majority kick, i don’t see it happening.

Preserving Ele builds

in Elementalist

Posted by: zombyturtle.5980

zombyturtle.5980

With the upcoming changes, two of eles three efficient pve builds are being destroyed, along with nerfs to pvp builds. I’ve been reading many ele forums and agree with several suggestions that will help retain diversity for ele.

S/D or S/F – The proposed nerf to lightning hammer will render this pve build useless. LH autoattack is core to the build and most people seem confused as to how this conjure is ‘problematic and cheesy’. Furthermore, this builds only real viability comes from the might stacking it provides in group play. When taken in context with the upcoming warrior buffs, it will already be significantly weakened.

If possible, hold back on changes to LH or at least provide further clarity on why this conjure is considered problematic in current gameplay.
———————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

D/F – This build was already weak compared to staff in PvE and only really taken for the extra survivability it provided in more challenging content. However, it is critical for each profession to at least provide decent dps to remain viable and wanted in group play. Staff now totally overshadows D/F due to the dps nerfs in air and earth trait line and its likely this build will now become obsolete.

To preserve this build, air trait line needs an additional dps modifier. General consensus seems to agree the return of air training even at 5% dps increase, would allow D/F to remain a viable choice for eles. This trait could be merged with fresh air to make eles choose between the two dps options.
———————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

Finally, moving elemental attunement to a GM trait creates an issue where eles must choose between one of two traits that are core to their build. Without both of these traits the viability of many pvp builds is significantly reduced.

If anet is unwilling to reconsider Elemental attunements rank in traits, then arcane master traits will require a rework to provide more game changing options. Right now most are simply gap fillers and dont give any meaningful options. Better synergy with other trait lines is necessary to make arcane master traits a worthwhile investment.

True but air attunement allowed me some versatility to use s/d/lh for longer boss fights if there was a might problem, it also was great for spike dmg in glyph of storms/IB. With conjour nerf i guess that wont be an issue though. I find the enemy health req abit high on Aquamancers training but you are right about bountiful. I guess its not as awful as I first assumed.

Most of the trait changes seem ok to me. The new streamlined system seems decent enough and honestly I very rarely spec into more than 3 lines anyway so that restriction isn’t an issue for me personally.

However I really dont like the new inability to use an adept trait in a master slot or master in grandmaster ect. Almost all my characters use more than 1 adept per trait line in place of a master as I find the masters to be less useful.

For some characters these 2 adepts are vital to their core build.

I know many traits are being reshuffled and merged and Im glad for this but would just like to make my voice heard and hope anet gives extra thought when considering how to merge traits before its finalized.

I ran into a similar issue the other day, posted a COE p1 asking for experienced 80’s. 3 80’s joined and we started, they weren’t great but we managed. At least until we reached the lasers. They would not coordinate at all. Took about 5 minutes to disable the jumping area and when we reached the 1-4 area, they just ran around killing golems. Worst part was they weren’t even defending the switch. They ignored us completely, even when we explained what to do.

Me and my friend then had a choice to either do 1-1-1-1-1 or leave since vote kicks were ignored, so we left.

I still think 3 votes are a better system overall, but I can totally sympathize with you :P

Make Largos a Playable Race

I doubt largos would be a playable race, its much more likely to be tengu if anything.
Also adding them as an underwater only, reward for pvp, or any other limited type of addon would make alot of people mad. It just does not work with this type of game.

Also the clipping issues already mentioned would be horrendous and there’s no way around it, especially since the cost of making race specific armor seems too high for anet to justify.

In addition to this, race specific skills will never be totally unique or varied. They are all made intentionally underpowered and have almost no actual use to prevent 1 specific race being more efficient, and therefore more desirable than others. This means largos, if they were added would end up playing almost exactly like the other races we have now.

Not trying to be mean, just realistic. If you only care about appearing as a largos for a short while, you could request a Largos tonic, or more largos in s3 living story.

Are we getting this?

Which scholar should I play?

I’m presuming by scholar you mean light armor classes. If i had to advise you Id say go elementalist. They are really versatile and are highly efficient and desired in almost all game modes. Also their gameplay can range from braindead easy to complex and challenging, so you can adapt it to your skill level. I also find them the most fun

You should probably just pick whichever you find most fun and interesting to play though.

Also it would really help if you used correct game terminology in the future when posting so people know what u are talking about.

how is resistance lazy? and i should have noted i dont mean full on immunity, i mean dealing a percentage to you such as you block 35% of poison damage dealt to you. and as for combos yes i know of them but still means very little since mobs can deal these things with BASIC attacks.

if setting me on fire was a special move they had, dodgeable or not, then yea that would be fine. but fighting 2+ mobs and all can poison, bleed, burn, chill, etc with a basic and you can cleanse once every 10 secs-ish than thats a bit much (ie risen and destroyers).

so having a resistance, be it full or partial, is not lazy and for usual MMO rules you can only have one on your gear be it youre going healer/tank.

This is not your standard mmo and there are no healers or tanks. I agree that passive defences such as resist on armor are lazy, as this game is built around active defenses like cleanse, block, blind. Knowing how to manage these to keep yourself alive is a critical part of the combat mechanics.

Dungeons as part of the personal story

Id like story dungeons to be changed to scale to the numbers of players. However I only support this if the dungeons themselves are repeatable, not just a one time thing. Even though most people rarely replay story its nice to have the option there, and taking content away from end game chars is always a bad thing, there’s little enough as it is.
