Yeah, you’re making my point for me with the first half; it’s asking them to make a design choice that allows people to outfit their toons how they like without gender restrictions.
I’ve played other mmos where male toons were actually in dresses not uncommonly, however if people don’t want it, they don’t have to buy it, unlike female toons that are forced with the choice to wear dresses or outfits that barely cover anything of our character (which a lot of us don’t want), so why not change it for open choice? Besides, if they created multiple outfits like that, they would have more revenue since people would have more options, (being able to acquire more varied styles and play around with different styels on whichever toons), and I am certain that many people who play female toons would be more than willing to pay for cool outfits that were not available to us in that style before (at least not very often).

You are obv not getting the point i am trying to make. I will try to explain it differently.

You are asking them to either:
-Make 2x the armor sets, both male and female options for each outfit (double the work) for 0 extra profit
-Make outfits for males that are dresses for males instead of working on other outfits = less profit for anet because less people will buy them compared to the sales they get from the outfits they make now

I would like your suggestion too but its not realistic because it results in less money for Anet which they will never choose to do.

I appreciate all the comments.

Its not about the size of the male or female. Size scaling is actually the easiest thing to change. Its about the fact they use an entirely different model. The armor cant just be ‘copy pasted’ over like it can with charr. Nothing can be done about this whatsoever. It is impossible to fix.

It has to be done from scratch, so if they want unique looks for female and male, they would have to create 4 sets under your suggestion rather than 2.

If they can use the same model for male Norn and male Human for example, why could they not then use the same one for females as well (in terms of outfits)? At least in the future. Multiple games don’t have armour restrictions by gender, Anet could implement that as well. The ability to choose sums up my request / suggestion.

Because they are chosing to create the same model on norn strucure as they are on human. Both from scratch. Its a design decision. They could ofc chose to create the same outfit on male and female structures, both from scratch like you are asking for, and they have done on some outfits in the past. but for mixed outfits, it would be a choice to create either 4 outfits instead of 2, or have males with the only choice to wear dresses in some cases. This would likely reduce the revenue they receive for outfits as despite it being fun, most people probably dont want their male characters in dresses.

Jumping mechanics stink

Not so secret isnt that hard once you get used to it. There are worse jumping puzzles out there. Ive never had an issue with jumps failing on my PC. But on my partners ancient laptop ive had jumps fail due to his CPU not being sufficient. Perhaps thats your problem.

I think the wheels that push you forward are a little off, as they always seem to overshoot so I agree theres something strange there, but its an easy workaround to swap weapons mid jump to consistently land correctly.

Games too old and dev teams too small to make it worth halting other content development to work on porting it. Anet doesn’t seem to want to pay any fees to other companies to host their game since they dont put it on steam. Engine was built to work on PC not consoles, could be super complicated to port it.

It would cost way more than 1200 gems. With the amount of work it would take to program this you are looking at 3k gems minimum.

While I agree it’s a complex problem, it’s not really possible to guesstimate how many gems they’ll charge for it, because they also need to factor in the demand curve, not just how expensive implementation was. If increasing the price from 1200 gems to 3000 gems cuts sales by 80%, they’ll make more money at 1200, and that would be the better bet regardless of implementation costs. The optimum price, as a result, is more governed by how much value players feel they get from the service.

Considering a lvl 80 boost alone is 2k gems. There is no way at all a race change would be below that.

Yeah they have stated that there are a lot of problems that could occur, but I know I’d buy and use a load of them (and also name change) and it’s frequently requested so if it was possible it could be quite profitable.

1200 gems for a race change with the cost of it resetting your personal story, for example? I’ll buy 4 now.

Devs have already said that its more work than its worth to create a race change. Resetting personal story is so much more complicated than you think, as it involves rewards, achievement and dialogue unique to the character. Theres also the issue of the vigil/whsipers/priory joining and the armor they give, as well as cultural armor.
Dont forget things like home instance have npcs that reflect choices in personal story too.

Theyve had infinite issues already just resetting 1 single chapter of story when people have encountered bugs. With the spaghetti code that needs unravelling to do such a huge task, you are looking at 3k gems minimum for a race change. You might as well just make a new character and boost it to 80.

Personally from my perspective I disagree. I dont have any issues with framerate or lag, unless its a huge massive zerg. I also never get disconnected. Im not really bothered by minor performance enhancements in general though, as long as its playable its good with me. This game runs better than other triple A games on my PC.

I know thats just my pespective and other people do have these issues, so I wouldnt say no to some improvements but I cant honestly say from my experience that they are necessary atm. :S

zombyturtle.5980

What would you want to change. What do you wish never happened at launch and what would you rework now if you could start over with a blank slate. What do you love about gw2 and would want to keep the same?

Personally I would want to

-Change how the armor system works entirely, doing away with heavy light and medium. Make armor a basic model with only 1 look and 1 mesh. Then have all customization done with skins. Outfits wouldn’t exist, just skins.

-Remove stats from armor and make armor all about customization through sigils and slots. Make traits have more depth and have traits the sole focus of build customisation. Add slots for permanent tonics and aura effects.

-Improve on core maps events. Making more meta events and less random small events to create more narrative driven maps as well as making events easier to find and follow. Have a meta always up and tie achievements to each meta. Make large visual changes to maps once the meta is done, especially in orr.

-Rework S1 to change the focus more on dragons and less on scarlet and her alliances. Make it repeatable and not temporary.

-Solidify basic systems that got way too many reworks and were unfinished at launch like dailies, minigames and fractals.

-Improve the final zhaitan fight

-Do literally everything differently in pvp..sorry but yeah..

I would keep the exploration, idle npc chatter, personal story choices, map design, mounts, gliding, collections, achievement driven content, jumping puzzles, world bosses and instance content the same.

Thinking about getting GW1 for HoM

I see, how long do you think it would take me to get to at least 30 if I play 12-15 hours a day? Which is how much I actually play GW2 lol

Took me about a year to get to 30 playing casually so around 3-6 months maybe if you hardcore grind it. I dont think its possible to get to 50 solo as you need minis which you can only obtain by trading with players. This wasnt hard to do though as I just made a forum post and found someone within 1 day that was selling the ones I needed. 99% of the rest of the titles can be obtained solo. I think PVP ones will obviously require another person to beat, but I avoided them.

Id highly advise following guides though if you are only interested in the rewards as gw1 is a pretty complex game compared to gw1 and using heros for the harder missions will be hell unless you know exactly where to stand and how to bodyblock ect.

You can also save money on the game by buying it on steam, or through a key selling website.

I really dont think that HOM rewards should be available on the gem store at all. Its a really bad idea and will anger many gw vets. If you want them, they are avilable still by playing gw1.

I havnt finished s3 but im finding myself with no desire too. Its a total mess. Plots all over the place introducing characters and then having them disappear less than 1 chapter later. I dont know what they were thinking….

Why on earth make balth an enemy, thats basically retconning the lore which sucks. Lore was good to begin with. And why move away from fighting the dragons. That was THE core plot of gw2 and it worked fine. Yes lots of people were bored with the formula of :
-dragon wakes up, makes minions
-commander joins random groups together to form an army
-dragon gets killed

but thats just due to bad writing. Theres plenty you can do to keep the story unique and interesting while still working in the confines of having the dragons the ultimate enemies to defeat. And why make human gods the focus. That’s just favouring 1 race (already the most popular) which sucks for other races because they get 0 lore introduced. Yes we are going to vabbi but even so… Urgh theres so much I dislike about the direction of the writing atm.

I honestly feel like I could write a much better story in 10minutes than what gw2 currently has.

Last night I was on Skype with my cousin,he saw and used the mount for the first time…we both had a nerdgasm on how amazing the mount animations are. If they change it,not only there will be a huge backlash but the work of the people who developed the mounts would be pointless. I can’t say I agree with the fact that it shouldn’t be added something to help the ones with the problem but in the end if it can’t be done without modifying the mount ,it should be left the way it is.The majority should not suffer for a minuscule minority.I know it sounds bad…but I think is the right thing.

Completely disagree. The minority is suffering far far worse than any majority could right now as losing a visual effect wont cause physical illness. It would be a shame and I am hoping so much that they are able to add options so we can customize it. The mounts look awesome but they give me and many others migraines within 10minutes. This makes a game i have invested 5 years into, literally unplayable.

Do you really think its ok to force me and the hundreds of others to quit the game now because of a visual design choice?

If it would or not force me to quit the game is not up to you to decide. Second, stop blowing this out of proportion, you make it sound like the game’s life depends on this, it does not. It’s an inconvenience, and i am sorry for the people affected by this problem, but i have a right to speak my mind like you do, and i would like the mounts to stay as they are. Horse beaten to death , i’m out.

It wouldnt FORCE you to quit, it would be your choice. Im not blowing it out of proportion at all as Motion sickness is something very awful to experience. I said you are entitled to your opinion and I am entitled to call it selfish and offer reasons why I think so. I never said it would destroy the game, just cause loss of revenue and a decline in players.

But it’s fair that my enjoyment of the game , after 5 years of investment, is potentially ruined because a minority of players has issues?
It is unfair, but guess what, so is life.

Yes because migrains vomiting and nausea is far more serious an issue than having a mount not look as nice. Your issue doesn’t force you to quit the game because of it.

You are ofc entitled to your opinion but I find it selfish to say ‘thats life’ to the people who are facing having to leave the game at this point. Its going to cause Anet loss of revenue and customers so is bad from a business perspective too.

Another player also pointed out that the biggest feedback thread, with the most contribution on POF atm is the motion sickness one. So the issue might be bigger than you think. Even if its just 5% of players, thats still a huge loss.

im going to repost my reply from the other thread:

To everyone saying mounts shouldnt be changed because the majority likes them, I would agree with you IF:

-This was a brand new game or
-Mounts were optional content
Then they could just be avoided.

However mounts are necessary to play the game now, and people who have invested 5 years into this game with no previous issues shouldn’t be forced to quit because it now makes them physically ill, which is a massive issue in a video game.

Obviously the solution is options and sliders but if its a choice of changing them outright or nothing at all, they have to change them so people arent getting migraines and vomiting.

I hardly think its fair for you to say since i dont suffer im ok with part of the playerbase (even if they are a minority) to be forced to quit the game after 5 years because i think they look nice.

Also you cant train yourself to cure motion sickness. You might become slightly more resilient to it but it will always occur to the people who suffer from it due to the way their brains work.

It would be really sad to see this organic and realistic expirience gone, because of a few People with motion sickness. That said, there should be an option for the ones with MS, so they can enjoy the game too. For me even imagening the raptor moving like it does and then coming to an instant stop just makes me a bit nauseous. That wouldn’t be the solution. There should be sliders or options for those affacted, but please don’t break the mounts. It truly felt wonderful.

I wouldnt want them to change something that looks and feels good for most people in game too. But I think its more a priority to have a game that doesn’t make its players sick and cause migraines to having something visually appealing. Im sure there is some compromise and I ofc agree with you that sliders are the best option if possible.

Please add Tengu, and here is why

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: zombyturtle.5980

zombyturtle.5980

I really want tengu. They are in my top 3 wishlist for gw2.
I feel the lore that can be introduced, through achievements and dialogue, as well as the content from story instances add sufficient content to make tengu more than just a cosmetic addition. Tengu would bring a whole new city to explore too giving tons of options for RP’ers and revitalize old content by giving it a new perspective, if the implementation is done well.

I know it adds alot of work from armor clipping issues, but the models are already done and its just a case of reducing clipping as much as possible. Given that 1/3 of armor clips on charrs tails anyway, clipping isnt a major barrier to adding tengu for me.

The biggest and most expensive cost is obviously the voice acting for old storylines. I am unsure how to get around this problem, unless you give the tengu the same voice as another race, but that seems to defeat the purpose.

As far as narrative goes, I dont see this as an issue at all. Tengu can easily be implemented when the story proceeds to Cantha. As we have shiro already, and cantha and the tengu and mentioned tons in vanilla Gw2, its reasonable to expect that eventually we will return there.

Give Tengu 1 personal story line, which involves the player character realizing that the tengu are mistaken for cutting themselves off from the rest of the world, and leaving their city to go help the fight with zhaitan in tyria. The story can then proceed like any other race with claw island. Add a small amount of unique written dialogue with NPCs whenever the character returns to the city in the expansion (as if time has moved on, same as other maps) and there should be no consistency issues outside of what is normal in other maps in gw2.

PoF should clarify traits lines and roles

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: zombyturtle.5980

zombyturtle.5980

I really like this idea and wish this was how things were in the game. Ive always felt traits were a mess and while they have been improving, they still arent up to scratch IMO. Having dedicated lines for each build would make things much more organised, clearer to new players, and easier to balance.

However I do see some issues. Mainly that this would remove alot of the build crafting and unique options traits allow for. We would see every power build taking the same line ect which is unoriginal and boring. I think this is worth the trade off, especially if traits are more specialized within lines, but many people would not.

For POF Its well too late to expect any major overhauls to traits. But perhaps in the future something similar to this will happen.

Nor was this farm game breaking or giving anyone an edge as everyone else could do it.

As far as im aware only engies could take part in it right? So not everyone could do it. If you didnt have an engineer you lost out which is one of the major issues I had with it.

EDIT: I was wrong you can do it on most classes. My mistake.

On top of that I dont have an issue with farming in general and turret farm was okish to me but I still dont think you should be able to consistently and intentionally be able to get loot while away from the PC screen. (exception is TP flipping i guess since its impossible to stop) Lots of people set down turrets, went away to do IRL stuff and came back once every 5-10 minutes. While it doesnt seem like much, its still 10minutes of AFK looting which shouldnt happen.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

There is actually enough EXP to be overlevelled on each map if you complete them slowly. It is easy to get underlevelled if you rush map completion though.

If you head to Lions Arch, you can enter through any of the portals to each races city and there are exits there to 4 other starting areas (1-15) where you can complete lower level maps to catch up. There are also maps up to level 50 for each area.

Events are everywhere but only spawn about once every 15mins so its easy to miss them. Heres a link to a map that shows every possible event in the game. http://gw2timer.com/. Meta events provide good exp as the events chain and you dont have to wait around. Wiki lists them all.

You can also gain exp by crafting, gathering materials or using exp scrolls/tomes which you get from daily achievements and log in rewards.

I even said in the very first line that I have no problem with farm zergs, grouping and playing content as a large group. Ive played group content loads and even have been part of farm trains myself.

What I do have an issue with is people getting extremely toxic when I want to just complete an event the way the game is intended. I also have an issue with bad event design that rewards more for failure than success which causes divides in the community.

I hope Anet takes notice of mine, and other peoples posts, and addresses the issue the way they have with other events in the past and remains consistent in their policy.

You guys should read better.

Its the worst part that some people are so selfish, they watch others farm and haveing fun and instead of joining everyone they just try to annoy them and afterwards complain on the forum…

We really need instanced maps to ban toxic people like in pvp.

I wasnt interested in joining a farm zerg as they were failing the event and I wanted to complete it. I also didnt want to interrupt their farming if possible so thats why I waited until they had left the event before doing it. I wasnt trying to annoy them.

So because you were offended, the event should be nerfed so that all the people who do it their own way and enjoy it, (like you did) get very little reward for doing so? That seems a little selfish. just block the people and choose not to be offended.

Id rather events didnt get nerfed but I think its bad design for an event to reward you more for failing it than completing it, toxcicity and me being ‘offended’ aside. So yes in this special instance I think it should be nerfed.

Id also like to mention there were some members of the zerg who were ok with me doing the event and were nice about it. I appreciate people like them.

I would like to start by saying in general I have no problem with event farming however I was in cursed shore yesterday and was attempting to complete each meta just to experience the game. I waited until their farm zerg left warmaster josif and then soloed the event before moving on. I had been waiting several hours to do this event.

The amount of toxicity and hate I received for completing this event instead of failing it was extreme for this game. I was told to kill myself. Hope that I never have a good drop ever again. Hope my account is taken or I am banned ect

I think this is an issue with event design that needs to be fixed as Noone should recieve this much verbal abuse for succeeding an event chain.

My suggestion is to reduce the heavy moldy bag drops that the adds give on the dolyak escort event, prevent champs from spawning on this event and to greatly increase the timer that resets the escort event if failed.

I dont think its the rift events as this problem persists across many maps that dont even have the rift event. Also I have checked event spawns for rifts, and they arent always in the places where the content tracker points to.

Thankyou for your advice with the nebo defence but I still think the event is too hard for a normal meta. Especially if players are at level for the zone and could use a nerf.

Gendarran fields meta needs fixing

zombyturtle.5980

Ive noticed that the meta events in gendarran fields arent working well.

The issues are:
The event kill the harathi bombadier and warmaster is bugged. The bosses will remain on 0 hp and the event will not finish even after they have disappeared.

The event prevent the centaurs from capturing nebo terrace is too difficult for a non organised team. When the reinforcements come it almost always fails

The follow up event from failing nebo terrace is far too easy meaning the failure events of protecting Ascalon settlement almost never happen.

Suggestions
Fix the bug so the warmasters event finishes successfully.

Reduce the difficulty of the reinforcements when protecting nebo terrace. Less champions and veterans would help. OR dont let the wardogs and taimini come if their respective events have been successful within the last 30mins, even if their individual events are back up.

Add a longer timer (15mins?) before the retake nebo terrace event occurs to allow the rest of the events to trigger.

Also in this map and serveral others (mt malestrom ect) the content guide for events will often point to random places on the map where no events are happening and sometimes even where no events ever spawn which could use fixing.

Are the minis in the sets ‘scary pets’ and ‘lunar new year’ still availble through these tickets, or did the sets go away when their festivals ended.?

Thanks

Ive just returned after a years break so sorry if my wishes have already been covered/are impossible:

- tengu playable race
-maps set in cantha, with a mix of traditional heart quest type and hot style
- new elite spec for all races
- new dungeon with 4 paths
- 3 new fractals
-1-2 new raids
- new minigames NOT gated behind other content and gating removed from existing maguuma games
-new masteries to complement the new area

I would also like to see things added to the core game

- better outfit system with mix and match abilities
-cosmetic only mounts similar to the flying carpet already in the gem store
-addition of the minigames promised at launch (minas shooting gallery ect)
-return of living story season 1 with the rewards brought back
- legendary weapon crafting finished BEFORE expansion
-A proper housing system and revamp of housing instance with customization similar to guild halls (smaller scale)
-MOST important, better scaling on all world events so dead areas can be solo’d if needed and zergs dont destroy content in 5 seconds.

Legendary weapons

You are talking about a whole product, not a digital one. As I said I don’t agree with what ANet did,

Doesnt matter whether its digital or physical. Its still protected under the consumer rights act. It was updated in oct 2015 I believe to cover digital good specifically to prevent these sorts of things from being legal.

I am no lawyer and hence may be wrong but I think that what we bought is access to a service. When you click the “accept” button you sign a contract where you say " take my money so that I can log in the game" and Anet say " I take your money and grant you access to the game server, so long you behave properly. And since it is our product we have all rights to do any change we want".

We don’t really pay for features and somehow I doubt the legislation on games would change because what you buy is no material.

I just want to raise this point because I think it is ok to be kittened by the news and to express disappointment or whatever feeling but the discussion won’t go far if people try to overthink the situation to end up with arguments that they are robbers or incompetent people.
"

Im not lawyer either but from what i understand TOS cannot directly conflict state or national laws. They can set their own rules but if a company breaks a law, whatever is stated in the TOS is redundant and becomes irrelevant even if its agreed to.

So saying all features are subject to change would grant them permission to go ahead with pulling legendaries but they would still be liable for the false advertisement of legendaries in HOT if it could be proven that they did indeed mislead customers. Law has actually recently been updated to include digital goods and services in america so saying its not a material is not longer a justification.

I… still don’t get it.

I mean is all this really over the new legendary’s ending with a new shortbow? We did get new legendary’s.

Not many, but they delivered on the promise of new legendary weps and the process of crafting them VS RNG.

How many more were you expecting? And are they really at all that big a deal? Moreover it’s not like they said no new legendary weapons ever again.

I see so many people here who have been utterly critical of Anet in the past suddenly up in arms over legendary weapons?

Like it’s a wonder some of you are still even here at all but of all things you can be mad about, it’s… legendary weapons?

A peripheral part of the game aimed at only the hardcore audience? Really? That’s the torch you want to take up now? Hahaha… alright.

Stay salty, friends.

Its not solely about the legendary weapons, although its understandable alot of people who bought the exp mainly for legendaries would be upset.

Most of us are more angry that anet advertised 16 legendaries as part of their expansion. We paid them money for this feature in our product. They then failed to deliver the feature marketed and advertised.

They did not give us the product we paid for. It could have been living story, guild halls, maps, anything that was cancelled and people would have had the same reaction as its not acceptable to take money people have given for a specific product and not provide it. In fact its borderline false advertising, only the ‘suspended’ part can protect them from consumer rights, but its still unethical as they are essentially using a loophole to avoid proper business conduct.

And yes while it hasnt actually been cancelled and just suspended, I dont see how they can say this fulfills their advertisement of ‘regular intervals’ of legendary releases. Not to mention how, given anets track record, its unsurprising that many plays see indefinitely suspended as cancelled. Sooo many projects that have been suspended have never been revisited. (SAB, dungeon rework, fractal leaderboards, wvw overhauls, clipping issues, home instance development)

I would like to mention that, had legendaries been a free content update like originally planned in 2013, then I would fully support this decision. But they werent.

[Discussion] race sex change.

They’ve said in the past this wont happen as race is tied to the personal story. It gets even more complicated because each races personal story is also linked to achievements and mastery points.

It just seems to be too complex a problem, even going with the simplest solution (wipe everything) to make it worth the cost.

Candy Cane Achievement to Community Section?

So what you two are saying is that my suggestion in the OP would’ve been far better because they could’ve spread candy cane usage out over the year. Glad you agree! I made the mistake of assuming it would get the same treatment as the Festive Imbiber achievement, and that’s entirely why I didn’t gobble my candy canes right away. It’s a shame, but at least it comes back next year for me to finish the achievement.

I also agree it would have been better if it was originally designed to be across the entire year but it wasnt. I think its far too late now to change it and would make a ton of people unhappy. I threw 50g into buying canes that I wanted to spend on other things to make sure I got it done in time.

Sorry for your mistake but in this case I vote you just deal with it until next wintersday.

What would you like to see in next expansion?

- New elite spec for each class
- Playable tengu with new city and 3 levelling maps for casuals
- 3 new hot-style zones for lvl 80’s
-more adventures with better implementation
-another guild hall for variation
-Player housing (revamp of the home instance) with the ability to decorate it
-2 new fractals
-more legendary items
-another raid
-6 new armor sets for each weight tier

wvw
-smaller maps
-more objectives for smaller groups
-wvw to not be dead

pvp
-new game mode e.g capture the flag
- large free for all map
- much better matchmaking system and removal of the 50/50 w/l ratio
- solo queue to return

Things I would like but arent likely to happen:
- return of dungeon paths, with new paths added for new areas
-event tracker for core maps
-worthwhile class balancing
-cosmetic mounts
-revamp of the outfit system to allow mix and match
