Turn down the difficulty for Casual Players

TBH i dont even find HOT maps that difficult. The mobs themselves arent individually much worse than creatures in orr. The only really annoying ones are frogs and snipers which arent too tough after all when you focus them or use some defense.

The only difficulty ive had is during events when im alone or with 1 other person and get overwhelmed. I feel this is more a scaling issue though than a difficulty one.

I would hate to see the difficulty reduced even further to the level of autoattack only neccessary as thats just so boring. Hot maps are the second time in gw2 (first being SW) ive seriously enjoyed open world pve and i dont want that to die.

Last story mission is VERY BUGGED [Spoilers]

Me and my partner attempted this after the patch and had several bugs which stopped us from completing it:

- Canach bugged at the final phase of his fight. He did not drop the shield and the boss stayed invulnerable. Had to exit and reenter the story.

-The rift on the mord fight spawned outside the platform area so couldn’t be interacted with. Both of us dying and respawning solved this.

-Gliders seemed to only open half the time during the massive ground aoe. It was very random whether they would work or not.

-When one of us died fully, there was no way to rejoin the fight other than the second player dying and restarting from scratch. Im not sure if this is a bug or not but it is rather unfun.

- Im not sure if ‘shielding’ was meant to work during the ground aoe or not. It says in the dialogue to shield yourself so I tried after my glider was failing but I still took damage and died. I tried both the block from herald sheild and standing in the aoe field created by the NPC’s.

Anyway after 4-5 attempts we couldnt both safely get past the ground aoe even once so gave up.

Who said giving the same spot? Have you seen how big the cities are? How many Buildings? No where talking about every guild can get there own Guild Hall house in cities & can add on to it.

Tirien.1326, Gw2 in some instances feels like a wasteland already. F2p has helped for sure. But in some area’s of the map like majore cities. It’s empty.

This is 100% not feasible for sooo many reasons. Main one being anet does not have time to create 100 different guild houses to fit each of the hosues in cities.

I think you are also underestimating how many guilds there are. There is no way there are enough to accomodate all guilds in gw2. Furthermore the houses are waaaaaaaaaay to small to fit even the most basic guild features.

zombyturtle.5980

If they cost less than the TP price of precursors it would crash the TP pre economy and have a knock on effect on the rest of the economy. Anet specifically said they didnt want to do this.

Pre crafting’s purpose was ONLY to give a non RNG method, and a non grindy method of gaining precursors. All of the gold skin components dont need to be grinded and can be got just by playing maps.

Idk why people cant seem to understand this.

Mounts [merged]

zombyturtle.5980

Seriously, but why are people asking for mounts? I play The Witcher 3, which has mounts. But hardly anyone uses them at all since its mostly faster to run to waypoints, just like in GW 2.

Well i play witcher 3 and hardly ever use wp, I only use my mount. I think its inappropriate to generalize about a single player game where you cant get all the data.

I like mounts as it gives a new feeling to exploring the world, and for me is more enjoyable than walking. It helps bring old content back to life for me and would also be a good way of milking the cash shop. The magic carpet is awesome and I wish they would add a few more types of those toys.

@OP Anet has never said they are against mounts or given a reason why they arent in game as far as im aware, they just arent interested in developing that type of content at the moment. Most of their ‘mount’ focus is on gliders now.

Agreed. Please support the PVE farming community. Because everyone know there is no pve players, just farmers.

Whats this got to do with PVE players or farmers? Its about how dungeons have become totally dead and ways to rectify that while still keeping to anets intent to de-incentivise them.

zombyturtle.5980

Old dungeon rewards were balanced to the old economy. You arent getting less rewards just because the devs hate you or are too lazy to think of a way to implement them. Youre getting less rewards because if you got more the amount of gold coming into the economy would screw over people playing HOT content.

I’m all for some other reward (heck just up the number of tokens you get per run and/or add more guaranteed rares so you can get more salvagable mats out of it). But it cant give flat gold like it used to. Just wouldnt work.

I dont mind the gold nerf in principle and i agree it was needed but the way they did it WAS lazy. A flat out 66% nerf without taking into consideration the length of the paths has almost outright killed some dungeons. There was no effort at all to balance it against other content, or even other dungeon paths.

Personally I dont think just upping the token rewards would give people enough reason to do dungeons and make them not dead again, most people already have the skins.

A once a week reward would still cut the oncome of dungeon runners by 6/7ths which still makes HOT the more efficient gold income generator, but means its not impossible to get a party like it is now…..although id be fine with some other decent reward like t6 mats or ectos once a week if that makes people want to play them.

Also I thought I posted this in dungeon forum, dunno how it ended up here lol.

This idea came from fluffball in another post, however it wasnt 100% relevant to the topic there and I thought it deserved its own thread.

Make dungeons give the old gold rewards but limit it to once per week ( or two weeks) per account. After that first once a week run, they can reward the current values.

People wont be able to spam farm them and will have to go into new maps to spend their time, so this achieves Anets goal of disincentivising dungeons. However it keeps dungeon content relevant and means they wont be dead all the time.

Usually I wouldnt mind updates, at least they are fixing the game and working on it. But with the new HOT maps it basically requires you to stay in a map for 1-2 hrs to get a full reward and have the full experience. Its soooo frustrating to get kicked out in the middle, or crash in the middle of an event you just put an hour of work into and not be able to return to the map due to an update. And this is happening every day ;\

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

1. To give players a long-term end game goal

2. To keep content relevant, most people wont repeat content over and over for enjoyment alone. Adding hard to obtain rewards keeps it worthwhile to repeat, which is necessary in an MMO

3. To continue the trend of skins as progression, rather than stats

4. Its been requested alot

Free accounts cant:
- talk in map chat ever – means doing world events v difficult
- can only whisper once every 30s – means the game becomes essentially solo
- can only trade a few select items on TP – means cant sell drop to get gold and cant buy materials towards goals. Basically makes it impossible to aquire any end game items.
- DONT get daily login rewards, if your friend is, its a bug and shouldnt happen
- cant buy gems with gold
- dont have access to guild banks
- cant send anything via mail
- limited char and bag slots

Essentially it makes the game a solo game, totally limiting interactions with other players, and for a game that relies on working togehter in maps to complete events, especially silverwastes and dry top, this is crippling.

The original game is basically a trial due to all the restrictions, its almost unplayable long term as a f2p player. Most games offer trials, gw2 did for weekends in the past. This is just a trail without a time limit.

HOT doesnt add a new race, which is disappointing but it adds a new profession which imo is way better. Race is just cosmetic but profession adds totally new gameplay.

There are no standard level increases but the mastery system acts as a pseudo level increase. You basically have to level up 36 times to unlock skills that let you navigate the new maps easier, and access merchants which give new items.

Ill agree with you that the expansion is expensive but I think its worth it, having played through the new areas.

Its up to you if you want to sell it. The prices of precursors have been very inconsistent since HOT release, so you may want to wait for the prices to stabilize before you list if you dont need the money right now. That being said, there’s always the change they will continue to drop and level out at a lower value than they are now.

Nerfing the dungeon rewards wasnt an awful idea imo. What was awful was they didnt bother to try balancing them at all. COF p1 deserved the nerf, its worth about 30-50s, however things such as Sorrows Embrace p2 should have at least been left alone, if not buffed.

A flat out 66% nerf just shows how little Anet care about dungeons. Whats even worse is they didnt even bother to transfer the gold reward to fractals like they stated they would, which now COST you money more often than not.

If all gold generation is stuck in raids its going to be hell for the people who like instanced content but dont have a static group or raid guild to run with.

Having huge amounts of grind in some other MMO’s doesnt make it more fun or imo more acceptable in others.

However my experience of GW2, including HOT has so far been very little grind whatsoever. The only grind being for gold for skins, which has been reduced with the expansion through legendary crafting.

I cant see how people can call masteries a grind when I have levelled most of mine just by doing each branch of the meta events in the new maps once.

Anet wont add them as committing resources and spending time on it, nomatter how small, could be seen as supporting the language in game.

This could unintentionally create an obligation for Anet to deal with reports containing the new characters, or provide support for those who talk in them. Which means they would have to hire someone who could read and understand said language and characters.

From a pure business perspective its too risky to enable characters which non of your employees can understand.

In addition to this you would likely get people from all over the world demanding their native language characters be added too, since a precedent has been set for enabling non supported language characters. Its just too much of a hassel for something that will only benefit a tiny part of the playerbase.

Not to say I dont sympathize with you, I can only imagine how disastrous it would be if the roles were reversed and I had to type exclusively in russian lol but Im trying to explain why for 3 years this hasnt been added, and will likely never be added.

I like the revenant profession skillsets and am looking forward to trying the elite specs of normal classes, as well as the new wvw map.

Im glad precursors are no longer limited to a gold grind and have a wider variety of activities to progress.

Things I dont like:
- Fractal reward nerf
- Guild upgrades HOT gating
- Needing a guild hall with scribe for precursor crafting
- HOT mastery exp can only be gained in new maps, not in fractals and wvw
-Only 3 new legendaries currently

He literately says that there is a TIME AND A GOLD value with the collection so that the precursor price does not skydive. There was no word that it was intended so that the collection does cost more than buying it in the tp additionally to the time you need to spend ^^

Yes but what it strongly inferred is the price of crafting must be close to the cost of the precursors on the market, else the market would crash which he specifically stated the system was designed to avoid.

Now I dont believe it was intended for the crafting process to cost MORE than the TP however, TP precursor prices fluctuate at a much higher rate than the crafting will and this system has been in design for many months. During those months the price of pre’s has dropped significantly. So it would be reasonable to assume it was designed to mirror the original TP cost of precursors at the time of development, or even undercut them slightly. Unfortunately TP speculators crashed the pre market anyway, leading to the situation we have now.

It would be unreasonable however to expect Anet to constantly update the crafting progress to reflect the current market value.

Anyway my point was the crafting was never intended to cost notably less than the grind method, as inferred in the vid i linked, just provide a more engaging method of getting the precursor while eliminating the RNG element.

Have some patience man… ofc its confusing at first but with abit of time in the map it gets alot easier.

Start by completing the easy events at the first wp and then move either north to the itzal meta event which is a chain of 9 small events awarding an achieve at the end, or move east to the pact encampment and do the meta event there.

These can both be done during the day. At night you pick once of the many small pact maps which are yellow circles on the map and defend them from morderm. You can also escort supply npcs to the camps. Its alot liek silverwastes.

Sometime during the night a helicopter will arrive at all controlled pact camps which you can ride up into the canopy and fight some bosses. You will most likely need a zerg though for this part.

By then you should at least have gliding and bouncing mushroom basic masteries which will make it much easier to navigate the map and allow you to explore easier and access the vistas and hero points.

Imo halloween bags do produce things of value. I like some of the new skins, especially the hammer and the mini dog is cute. Its just a shame they are all RNG and therefore you are better off buying them from the TP than farming.

Actually ive been here since launch and mostly only do dungeons these days. Just because you dont like something doesnt mean its a grind.

Being forced to spend countless hours playing content you dislike in order to be able to fully play the content you do like is grind.

No. Grind is doing repetitive tasks with no variation in gameplay or strategy. With an emphasis on repetitive.

Just because you dont like doing something does NOT make it grind. Unless you have to repeat it multiple times to achieve your goal, it is by definition not grind. It may be unpleasant or boring for you personally however.
If we accept your definition then literally anything could be taken as grindy as there will always be someone who doesnt like the actual content but wants the rewards.

Now despite that masteries may be a grind. If you have to do events on the new maps over and over to gain enough exp then yes it is a grind. If you only have to do each event once , and complete each map once, it is not.

I thought you could get masteries by doing anything that granted exp? If im wrong I apologise and please correct me.

Exp from anything in the expac jungle yes. So basically I’m stuck running around killing random mobs while running from event to event, and watching my exp bar move ever so slooowly.

Thats a fair point. Thankyou for explaining, I understand the complains abit more now., although I still think the compaints about hero points are unjustified.

Perhaps a better direction would be to campaign for exp from all aspects of the game to count towards masteries, or at least all new HOT content such as the revamped fractals and wvw borderlands.

You’re forced to play playstyles you possibly either don’t like, or are very bored of, for thousands of hours to eventually experience the new playstyles you were really excited about.

This is the absolute worst example of grind ever.

Having Zero elites and instead 2-3 entirely new character classes would have been massively superior.

Its character progression though not a new class in itself. I understand it must be frustrating but, well , this is how character progression works. I dont get why people assumed would be different.

Can someone please explain to me why sooo many people have such a huge problem actually playing the content they paid for in order to progress their characters. I mean why even buy it if you are so against playing it. I just dont get it x.x

Seriously you are that unaware that you think everyone plays the game the same way? Guess what some people do not like the tedious open world content in this game, but until now that hasn’t restricted you actual gameplay, if you were levelling a character and weren’t keen on open world PvE you had plenty of other options – EoTM, WvW, crafting, PvP, tomes, dungeons, etc.

With this people who for example enjoy fractals, dungeons and raids, but can’t stand open world PvE, are forced to go grind these tedious PvE zones as that is where the hero points are.

Maybe you are new, but this game was sold on things like “lack of grind”, “play your own way”, the way getting these new specialisations is handled is contrary to those philosophies.

Actually ive been here since launch and mostly only do dungeons these days. Just because you dont like something doesnt mean its a grind. Game content is not only limited to ‘things I like doing’.

If you want specializations though, yeah you will have to put some effort in and play the game content you paid for. It was marketed as, and designed as, character progression which requires work and effort, not instant gratification, otherwise it wouldnt be character progression.

Play your own way has always referred not being hard locked out of content due to your build or gear choice. Not I should get all the rewards for doing only a tiny part of the game. You can still take part in every single piece of game content without the elite specializations.

If you have such a problem with PVE maps hero points will be coming to wvw too so you can progress your character through those means. So there is an option.

And yes my reply is snarkier than usual but thats because you seemed to think it was ok to insult me for asking a completely reasonable question.

Sure, many people (including me) were initially drawn to GW2 because it marketed itself as being “not another grindy” game. Yes there was some grind involved …notably legendaries… but that didn’t really affect the vast majority of the player base since such gear is merely optional. But now ?

LOL.

Its not exactly grind though as you only have to complete each hero point once. Grind is doing the same content over and over to progress. You just have to do the content on the new maps once time per character, which you would probably be doing anyway right? Otherwise why buy the exp.

there’s no “need” for it, or for anything else to be honest. this is an MMO not a life support system. anything in the game is for fun not for need.

Yeah I don’t think the game NEEDS any particular content. The only discussion is whether one type of content would improve the game more significantly than the other. I think fishing would be a decent addition and would improve the game enough to make it worthwhile.

1.Fair enough

2 Replayable content how so ? Similar to current resource collecting, fishing could provide a steady income through selling collected resourced through the TP, meaning its worthwhile to repeat it.

3.How does it build on ? Are you suggesting they rebuild all existing crafts to include it ? No just cooking or a separate crafting discipline of its own. I have no objection to farming or hunting too, all have their merits.

4. And in this case they may not. If many people want a feature, its for a reason, because they enjoy it or think it would be beneficial to the game. Its logical to satisfy customer demand if the investment will pay off.

5.It would reinvigorate water areas. So would fixing underwater combat, as well as just generally adding anything to those areas, so what unique thing does fishing do ? Fixing underwater combat is more challenging as it involves basically redoing 9 entire class skills and then balancing all the skills. Yes they could add anything so why not fishing.

6.It could be a collection, sure but what does that do for the players except limit your own suggested replay value? Gives them an actual goal to make the content feel rewarding. It could be both a crafting discipline and a collection, no need to limit one or the other.

Like I said i am not really fussed about fishing but see no drawback to adding it other than the time and money needed to develop it. If you think there are bigger priorities and dont want to see fishing until they have been added/fixed thats fine and thats your opinion, to some extent i agree. Its up to Anet to decide in this case. But to be so against the content being added simply because it doesnt appeal to you is illogical to me.

- Its fun
- It adds re-playable content
-It builds on existing crafting systems adding more depth
-It appears to have high demand and be a popular suggestion
-It would reinvigorate many abandoned water areas of maps
-It could be introduced through the collections system which would take less resources to implement

Dont bring back old pvp rewards

PS: Those items were attainable without any bigger effort back then.

then why didn’t you unlock it back then instead of waiting 2 years and then complaining that you couldn’t be bothered unlocking it like those of us who did. >_<

I know this wasnt directed at me but personally I didnt unlock them in the past as I was content working casually towards pvp skins and ranking up slowly, rather than faming. This was because I had no idea the skins would disappear and felt no pressure to get them immediatly. As far as im aware there was no warning. The only info anet provided us was that pvp and pve skins would be merged.

If there was a post stating specifically pvp exclusive skins would be disappearing, please link it and ill reconsider my argument about bringing them back, but until then I see no reason they shouldnt return.
