ha these are great guys xD
no. All parts in a laptop besides the RAM dimms are soldered to the motherboard. While some laptops will allow for a processor upgrade or replacement, most of the time if something goes bad on a motherboard the whole thing is scrapped and replaced. So since the GPU is a part of your processor, there is no way possible to replace it with something better. Even if you did have a discrete GPU like a low end Nvidia 8300M you couldnt replace it. It might be a "discrete" GPU, but since it is soldered to the main board, it is NOT something that can be replaced.
It’s your processor. it’s a bottleneck
call me crazy, but I’m pretty sure your CPU is a bottleneck for you. While it might still be on paper a good CPU, it’s architecture is kinda old =\ the sweet spot for this game on an Intel CPU is a core i5 2600K at 4.5Ghz
Man, it was SheeeezNit 5 years ago.
exactly..5 years ago...
you can’t upgrade a GPU in a laptop because it is soldered to the motherboard. the only thing you can really upgrade in a laptop is RAM
yaaaa, that integrated GPU is old ......sorry to say. honestly I’m surprised you’re even getting 3Fps..
I dont know why people compare this game to other games lol I was guilty of that too at one point until I realized that all games are NOT created equal. I might love this game but I have to admit that the game’s code isn’t all that optimized (if not at all).
but anyways! yeah, your rig is killer. no doubt about that. But it’s unfortunate if you do only have a 2600 and not the 2600K....as seeing that 2600k is a little easier to over clock. but if you can over clock, I have heard people on these forums stating that 4.5Ghz is the sweet spot for modern Intel CPUs.
you know I client that I do work for who still is using a computer she bought almost 10 years ago lol I always tell my friends that a computer is only out dated when it can no longer serve you the purpose you either bought it or built it for...but keep in mind I’m talking about end users here.
Anything beyond 60 FPS is a waste since you’ll barely notice any difference at all. I can make GW2 run at 120FPS very easily with my rig (I’m a VFX/CG artist) but the only difference I can tell is that my GPU fan is spinning faster than normal and my PC is getting hotter than normal, that’s it.
while this may be true, you’re always going to have the one dude who’s like LOOK AT MY UBER RIG PEOPLE!!!!
Very ture. But then I tell them the specs on my rig and they shut up real quick. Funny part is I built this rig for work, not for gaming, just so happens my work and gaming share the same components
and since it’s for work I can respect that. What I don’t understand are those people that get 80FPS in a game….spend $400 in new parts, and then at the end of it all get a whopping 81FPS and say they can totally see the difference -_-
but I know what your saying about your PC lol I built mine for everyday use, but it’s not afraid to get work and gaming done. Heck, when I build mine the parts were brand new but they were out in circulation for almost 1-2 years! And yet my little “old” AMD B60 quad core and my “old” Nvidia GTX460 has less problems running games than my friends who build these monsters that require an installment loan and possibly a kidney
$400 in parts for 1 FPS of improvement lol I’d rather drop $400 in the gem store
I just wish I had $400 not already spent on bills lmao

You can get that performance in LOL with a i3 2100 and a 7850 card . Dont know how he came up with 120FPS I thought it caped before then.
unless Blizzard capped it in a newer patch, I can remember my old rig back in the burning crusade days was capable of getting over 200+ fps lmao
but there are a few places tho in Wow that are a "little" more demanding on a system lol the new textures they use in some of zones are really quit nice
being able to play Wow with 120+ FPS isn’t anything spectacular..sorry to say. Even a few low end PCs i work on can run it at 50+ maxed out.
can you tell us the specs of your computer?
Thanks guys, forgot to add the psu, doh..it’s running on 700 watt, so powerful enough for most things I would think.
Volmak, I disagree, the card was excellent and quiet, had no issues with it until now and it’s a few years old
Zerk, thanks for the link, I’ll take a look – at the overlocking also, have water cooling so I guess I should have done this a while back
I think I prefer Nvidia – had a Radeon before this card and really didn’t like it…I know things change a lot in a few years.
What do you guys think of GTX 650 Ti Boost? It has recently ben released and is a resonable price. Seems to be looking ok:
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Zotac/GeForce_GTX_650_Ti_Boost/
the 650 TI Boots is a VERY good card. have’t had the chance to use it myself, but it blows AMD’s new 7790 out of the water by a long shot. Really wish AMD wasn’t discontinuing the 7850 1 GB and 2Gb….but what can we do about it? lol
just build my a friend a rig with the A8 5600K , 8 Gb DDR3, and an AMD 6870 and GW2 runs at a nice 60 fps+ all on high. the A10 will have no issues at all. just pair it up with a nice GPU.
But if you are asking if the APU run the game with it’s built in video adapter, then no.

I have a dual core Phenom II unlocked for a B60 x4 and OC’d to 3.7Ghz and can play the game maxed out with my GTX 460 gpu (but I have shadows on medium, same for Shaders).
it’s just odd, because everyone I know who plays this game on "older" hardware seems to be getting better performance then a few people I know who have $3k monsters.
I would say a combination of low and medium..until Haswell comes out Intel doesn’t have anything on discrete graphics lol
that laptop will play it like a slide slow...since the hardware in it is a few years old...as in the last time I heard of the ATI 4xxxx series was back in 08-09
Yeah sure you do on full hd with high graphics sure.... I want a screen shot from a big wvw when you dont drop to 20+ with amd cpu oced so low. Face it the game at its current state need at least 4,5 ghz i5/i7 to stay in 30 fps range in zergs all the time. Everyone can say hey i get 10000+ fps with my wooden cpu or smtn but i say screens or didnt happen. Amd is cheaper generaly and works fine with games that are better programed but hell guild wars just likes 1 strong core so intel is the way to go for this game.
I know what my rig can do, I dont need to SS anything.
as for WvW, I normally get around 40FPS. Everything besides shadows (medium) and reflections (off, don’t like them) is set to high at 1680 x 1050 lol maybe if you did some homework, you would understand you dont need to sepnd $2K to build a good computer =p
fail troll is fail
*EDIT*
Then again, I dont need a PC that can get me over 100FPS to play a game. 40-60FPS is perfect, for me.

The scepter is by far the most useless weapon on a guardian, the staff at least has defensive usefulness. There is no situation I have come across where I would consider using a scepter over melee options. So, keep this in mind if you think you want to do ranged damage, because this is not really a viable option on a guardian.
I normally say this too, but I really like a scepter for long range attacks, then I switch it up to a greatsword when they get close
That’s exactly what I do. Scepter is a decent ranged weapon, and in some instances you are better off keeping your distance and killing….albeit more slowly than with a great sword…a mob without taking much damage.
exactly! i try to kite them as much as I can lol I normally do a combo of the binding skill, then the AOE skill when they’re bound, then rinse and repeat as they each recharge.
Non amd cpu will blow intel in gw2 so if you plan to build the cpu for guild wars mainly go with intel.
I lol’d =p my AMD phenom II x4 @ 4.0Ghz plays this game flawlessly....and this is with a GTX 460 gpu. Heck, even when I had it clocked only to 3.5Ghz, and then 3.7Ghz it still played great. never went below 35 fps in very crowded areas, and in every other place 80 FPS+

tsmith: at least you hope it will......but alas, intel love to change sockets, anything anybody buys now will just endup being non-upgradeable once haswel comes out, no real need to change the socket, other then intel needs to sell more chipsets and motherboards!!!
thats the sad part, intel have made VERY VERY minor changes to the socket just to force people to buy more chipsets.....
Actually the reason Haswell is using a new socket is that it’s moving the VRM (voltage regulation module) from the motherboard to the CPU.
Not exactly a minor change, and not something that can be made backwards compatible.
I might be an AMD fan, but I love to see a new "tock" from intel! and thank you, only heard about the new architecture, but not about the VRM move. thanks the for info!
(edited by tsmith.7915)
if it was me, I would just go with a socket 2011 MOBO because at the end of the year Intel is coming out with the new socket 1150 line. The E series of the ivy and sandy bridge might cost a little more money, but at least that socket will be supported for a little while longer..

I hate to say it..but I would build a new PC =\
if my memory serves me right, that socket that your CPU sits in is called LGA775...and even if you did upgrade to the fastest CPu you could find for it, even a "slow" i3 could still blow it out the water =\
but I just built a friend of mine a new PC for GW2 and she loves it!
AMD A8-5600K CPU
AMD 6870 GPU
8Gigs DDR3
Windows 8 Pro 64-bit
700 WATT power supply
and a few other things, but I build her that for around $580
she can crank everything up in high and still get between 50-100 FPS, depending on where she is at.

If you got the version with the Nvidia 520M graphics it should be reasonably good for a laptop.
But bear in mind that laptops just aren’t cut out for high-end games, regardless of how much they claim to be, so don’t expect the same performance as you’d get from a gaming desktop. You’re going to be on nearly minimum settings, with most settings turned down to lowest if you want decent FPS performance.
eh I wouldnt say that lol
a friend of mine has a BEAST laptop she uses for on the go video processing and decoding, animations, and so on
last i checked it had something like
a mobile i7 @ 3.7Ghz
16Gb DDR3
2x mobile nvidia GTX 6xx ( cant remember the model number, but I know they are high end)
Granted the unit costed her around $2000 as a desk top replacement since she is always on the go. But if you have the money to spend, a laptop can game quit nicely =p
i’m assuming that your computer is a laptop?
you may have a quad-core, but that 1.8Ghz clock speed is KILLING your game performance on GW 2...
you really cant compare this game with game X because "you can run that game on super ultra high". GW2 is very CPU intensive. And since this is in a laptop, overclocking is out of the question..
sorry =\
was just wondering if anyone else has had issues with the program called Xfire (ingame chat, screenies, and recording) has caused their client to crash mid game? only happens to me when I have xfire running
There is a program you can get from the Software Center called PlayOnLinux. It is a front end for WINE, and it allows you to select games from a list to install directly from PoL. It also gets you the correct things for WINE with each game downloaded so there are no complications.
i hate to say this being an AMD guy personally, but the bulldozer line of CPUs were actually a great let down =\ They under performed in almost every aspect even when compared to the Phenom II line they were suppose to replace...hence why I still have my Phenom II x4 BE lol
I run an AMD Phenom II x 2 3.3 BE edition....but it’s unlocked to a b60 Quad Core and OCd to 3.7 Ghz....runs the game great! and I’m playing with an older but still bad kitten nvidia GTX 460 never see dips below FPS, unless in a very populated area.
my love for exploring that and I have been taking my time playing the game lol I was level 59 for almost 2 weeks! Not by choice.....studying for finals suck
my rule of thumb is any processor under 3.0 Ghz isnt gonna run this game well. Also, your GTS 250 really isnt a card meant for graphic intensive games....sorry...
They have ascended hooves.
LOL!
And they didn’t even have to do fractalsThey did it.. solo…. o:
…..dear mother of god….
just out of curiosity, what type of processor do you have?
to the OP, I have been using windows 8 Pro x64 for about a week now and no issues with anything. If there is any difference in gaming it’s actually better performance. Win 8 is so light on my system it’s like it isnt even there lol only used 800MBs of RAM at idle
the 4850 is around 2-3 generations old..that includes the technology used to build the card. the 6670 is the better card by a big margin
so not only does my game A LOT better,,,but it also gave me around 30-40FPS increase in game with the same settings I had before I tried it out hahaha thank you!!!!!!!!!
eh, I always tell people to never buy a prebuilt unit from HP, Dell, or anyone once else. They come with a lot of bloatware that you dont need or will NEVER user. but I have to give you props for picking a HP....that’s the only prebuilt company I recommend to people when they say they have to buy a new PC.
From personal experience, Foxconn motherboards aren’t that reliable....either that or the people that ask me to work on their computers just have really bad luck with them. Your AMD Phenom II 945 is a good proc for the money. Only issue is that you might not be able to overclock it since you are using a manufactured PC compared to a custom build unit.
the ATI 5850 is a decent card for the money but don’t expect to run GW2 on max everything. Maybe a mixture of Low and Medium.
and PLEASE look at the power supply when you do order it. open the case and look to see what manufacturer they used. If it’s a BESTEC unit, throw it away and run like hell lol they are the cheapest psu a manufacturer can use. They weigh next to nothing and weight to a good PSU is important. Why? To put it nicely, a heavy PSU is a good PSU. I always go with Antec, CoolerMaster, Thermaltake, And Corsair. For that unit i would go with a nice 500 Watt power supply. It might be more than what you need, but a 500 watt PSU running at 400-450watts will last a heck of a lot longer than a 500 watt unit running at the max 500 watts+ all the time!
8Gbs of DDR3 RAM is very good! should last you for a long, long time =p
hope this helps a little!!
(edited by tsmith.7915)
ok! so I did a repair/verify and I’m still getting terrible performance in caves. oh well....guess i just wont do certain quests O.o
Sounds like after the game updated you’ve got some corrupted texture files or some such? I’d try running a repair on your client files.
I’ll give it a shot! thanks!
update soon =p
I know this has been brought up before. but is anyone else getting extreme fps drops in caves at all?
I get 40-100+ fps in most areas, but there isnt a cave I can do in without dipping down to anywhere between 10-15 fps.
And yes, my PC is more than capable (I built this rig just for this game hahaha), and everything is up to date.
I would just like to know if anyone is having this same issue at all..
thanks for the reply everyone!!!!! hopefully the devs know about this!
thanks =p I love this proc! not even worth the upgrade for a bulldozer when the performance on those really aren’t all what they can be!
and thanks for the reply Amarinth! Hopefully the devs can look into this one
I’m running a AMD Phenom II x2 560 unlocked to a x4 B60 OC @ 3.5 Ghz
and as far as that argument goes, I beg to differ on multiple levels lol
and yes, I always update my drivers for everything at the begging of every month just to get it all done at once =p
just thought it was kinda odd
I was questing with a friend of mine, and just as I turn my camera to face the entrance to this cave entrance, I dip down to `10-15 FPS, and when i enter it I dip down to single digits lol
and before anyone asks me I get 40-over 100 FPS in some areas, and I have even turned everything on low just to test it and it still happens.
that pic shows the location of where the cave is! hope you guys can help me on this one!
well its my pleasure to help!
and if you do figure out a way to do this, please let me know! it would be nice to know in case I have to cut a few people off -_-
when I say normal, I mean it in the way I explain later in the paragraph. Only a guess, but that’s what I’ve noticed over the years when its ever happened to me
yes the windows firewall lol
hopefully this might help!!

*EDIT*
just uncheck Guild Wars 2 and that should tell the firewall to not allow access to the network!
