Yup bring back the old balancing, this is terribly easy.

It is amazing how quickly this has tanked my enthusiasm in regards to the potential of the expansion. If they are just following old trends like this

BoonDuration, trait line issue.

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: unknowable.8470

unknowable.8470

Since the specialization patch most other trait stat lines have had options
Boon duration increase on guardian have not… Even on armour sets (givers) they are still at 1% and such

It is dismal, support isn’t strong but after the rune patches in january I went from 75% boon duration, to 45%, and now from 45% to 15%.

This really needs to be fixed for diversity sake. a 20% boon duration while using staff if I use a specific specialization and give up an master tier trait… just not a good trade off for a 30% stat on a trait line which I always had.

That’s should be called Trials, not Adventures. :/

+1 in agreement here. Trials/challenges/endeavors would be ideal titles.

Adventures just doesn’t sound right, even outside the pedantic range. I would rather Arenanet kept the adventure name open for future uses (guild adventures for instance, or daily quests/events that could be given at random from your faction)

Will HoT include LS2?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

unknowable.8470

I think it would be nice of them to include it, though I foresee some negative reaction from those who bought gems to unlock it and then have to pay the same price as others for HoT. Even though I doubt HoT’s price would be in any way altered by bundling in LS2, and even though these people got the advantage of playing the LS sooner and unlocking Lumi sooner, they’ll still consider it “unfair.”

Not me, I would happy with more people having access to LS season 2, I think it would be a misstep for arenanet to release the expansion and not make it extremely clear to people that they need LS season 2 to know what is going on in the HoT storyline.

I leveled up all 8 classes with a mix of birthday scrolls, traditional leveling and cooking… I would rather people not pull this “judgement” stuff on my choice to use in game options to get a new class up to where “I” find the game fun.
Heck I would have the game revert back to a level 20 game like GW1 if I could… The game really works better with all the traits, runes and gear options and is silly levels of shallow before them.

Narrative Lessons From 15 Months of Scarlet

This was..an amazing post. While I hope the LS does improve for season 2……I feel like it’s still wise to go in with low expectations. Just seems like the amount of effort and development time needed to address all those issues would overlap with anything else they wanted to do. Which is why I think the story’s implementation has been poor to begin with. If I really want a good story, I would just go play single player game.

I don’t think they have to be mutually exclusive, I don’t think there can be a personal story but I feel like there can be a decent narrative.
Heck they just need to hire a team of decent pen and paper writers (by pen and paper I mean rpgs like pathfinder, dungeons and dragons, shadowrun and stuff like that)

I hope the writers give this a good mull over

Feedback/Questions: The Wardrobe System

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

unknowable.8470

I feel that they have missed out on a great revenue option, make it so items aren’t automatically unlocked in the wardrobe and the player has to use an item to unlock them (crystal) once that item has been used it unlocks the item for infinite use.

It would take over $400 to unlock everything and frankly collectors are crazy, heck I would have spent heaps… this system… it is great, better than the last system.

But I won’t be using it often. A full set change is what, 11gems, more if you like carrying more than 4 weapons on your toon.

I was looking forward to being able to swap appearances from light to dark (good and evil) on my character, ah well back to the old gear swap manually.

1 charge for 3 transmutation stones

Eh I was excited, but this really doesn’t do anything special for me.
Really I may rarely use it but I won’t use it any more often than I would have used the old system.

Now if they had made it so I paid transmution charges that unlocked my ability to use the skins I had unlocked.
(so you unlock skins, and then use stones to unlock infinite use of said skins)

I would have happily dumped $100in the game instantly and then spent even more money over time and different armour classes, characters.

This way they will be lucky if I use it more than once or twice a year, a shame as with what ~20sets of armour per armour weight and ~35-40 weapon skins of each weapon type… that is 780 charges to unlock and encourages the collector/completionist mentality.

This does not, and I guarantee will make less money overall.

Boon duration possible nerf?

Take a step back. Grow a spine.

I wasn’t insulting you saying you were an angry mob. I simply stated that we have only seen 3 rune sets, and they have specifically mentioned making new runes for stats that are not/under represented.

They also specifically mention the 2×3 that people use.

So no use getting into a frenzy over something we know little about and they seem to actually be aware of.

Your attitude is seriously bad man/girl/whatever.

Really there are better ways to communicate with folks on the net and that is that.
No this is not something that will keep me up at night, no I will not think on it past now. But really.

The new monk runes only give 15% boon duration. 5% for 2x, +10% for 4×. You might have to mix with 2x water for another 5% to get 20% total. Although water and monk are similar, it would be nice to have a dedicated rune set so we at least get a special bonus out of a full set. Superior rune of strength only has a max of 45% might duration, so might duration was reduced by 20%. If we assume the same for boons, then we should expect no more than 25% boon duration. 20% is probably more in-line with Anet’s thinking since there are many traits that use that 20% magic number and they obviously don’t want general boon duration to creep close to the specialized runes.

So yeah, I think everyone is hoping for the best, but I say plan for the worst. IMO, 20-25% boon duration is not worth it. That buys me an extra second or two, which when considering animations and weapon activation times, doesn’t give me enough time to maximize on it. I’ve already begun planning using a new rune set and moving away from boons. It sucks, but that’s life.

And this is part of what I worry about, because I really don’t think arenanet intends to kill off this sort of gameplay but it might end up being a bit of a casualty in the OCD desire to keep all numbers relatively recognizable.
It isn’t just for us either, stability is a big one, it takes a little while for people to recognize they have it to and having the extra duration helps a lot.

Well that and keeps up my swiftness in world vs world a bit longer -laughs-, the biggest issue with symbol of swiftness is that one enemy running over it causes me to enter combat, a couple of roamers who know this can always catch a guardian.
-cough- I can’t say I haven’t been guilty of using the tactic with friends myself though.

Boon duration possible nerf?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

unknowable.8470

They are reworking the entirety of the runesets. They are moving the higher bonuses to the top of the 6, they are increasing the value of some parts (Like on hit %’s), they are adding new runes to represent stats that are not represented.

They know that people are using 2×3 for boon duration.

Hold your pitchforks till we know more. We have only seen 3 runes that have been redone.

Did you read my post? there are no pitchforks yet, but it has to be brought up especially as one of the boon duration runesets (monk) was shown in the livestream and only gives 30% boon duration for the full 6 set.
Sure there may be another boon duration set amongst the rest, but I want to make sure that it is talked about so the developers see it or have a CHANCE to see it at some level.

I am worried, not angry and Arenanet haven’t got the best track record with stuff like this, human fallibility and all that.

I mean seriously, even my title is worded as a query…

Boon duration possible nerf?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

unknowable.8470

Watched the latest ready up stream and became a bit worried, see I run a DPS zerker guardian that also focuses on giving support via boons, converting conditions on the party via shouts (and giving boons at the same time)

This build requries a few things, dodging via my perma vigor (which now nolonger exists due to the vigorous precision change), damage mitigation via skills and aegis (still there), damage from zerkers (lowered somewhat but not game breaking), and three sets of two boons that increase my boon duration by 15% each to a total of 45% (55% after 10points into the final line)

My main query is this, if arenanet doesn’t give SOMETHING to offset their removal of this rune set option do they even realize they are removing one of the only viable paths for classes that want to be able to provide ACTUAL support under the current system.

I doubt this balance patch will increase the effectiveness of healing as a stat (utterly useless as it is) and really unless the guardian can provide those longer boons I see little reason for playing it anymore zerker or not, it currently has great sustained damage, amazing survivability albeit requiring a lot of attention timing and general skill to do so and it can provide enough boons, cleansing and reflection to the group that it’s lack of burst is almost always offset for the party as it just makes runs so much cleaner.

Unshakable and Defiance ~ The bane of PvE

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

unknowable.8470

Some big changes that are needed.
Removal of Defiance, unshakable, add in control canceling abilities for all bosses and champions (attacks that break it or abilities that once used give it a period of control immunity)

Then have lower level mobs that have immunity or resistance to control.

Keep ALL high spike DPS skills on single or low target weapons.

Remove the 5target limit for targets (Both offensive and allied) for all non zerg content (so outside of living world content and world vs world it could go back to how it used to be)

REMOVE THE 5 TARGET LIMIT FOR MOBS!!!! dear god this makes certain megaboss fights a joke -cough- shadow behemoth.

independent condition stacks in pve (have it so conditions are calculated on serverity rather than multiple smaller condition stacks and each time you add a stack of something it increase the stack length and severity for your character (the server only having to calculate it once per tick which is no different to individual attacks)
It should also do wonders for zerg content and require a lot less info being passed along.

And ofcourse boons, I feel there need to be a higher duration across the board or stacking in intensity on most boons like what I suggested with conditions. This would make boon stripping more important (for pvp and pve aslong as mobs got the same access to boons on occasion) heck even having boons that control skills strip.

I had 40 gold and I felt poor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: unknowable.8470

unknowable.8470

Eh…. 40gold isn’t much anymore sadly

Really there is a huge imbalance in crafting compontent drops which have made certain items artificially shoot through the roof (I am looking at you charged lodestones where the only viable farming location is in orr, in a place that requires another map’s event to be completed and only has a 3 hour window)

But seriously aside from that the actual rewards are getting better, I feel there needs to be a slight rebalance especially with how low event rewards are and such and how there currently is no living world so it is champ farming or bust. At the moment you are either getting what you want from one activity, or not getting it at all and that is a bit of an issue that causes ghost town syndrome.

Just going to say, a lack of dps, tank, healer can work.
It isn’t the idea that works it is just guild wars 2 doesn’t implement their pve encounters very well and support as it is is pathetic while control cannot be used at all due to low reliability, uptime, AOE and ofcourse defiant stacks.

Don’t blame the ideal because it had bad implementation.

Ideally the combat scenarios needed to be based more around teamwork and phases. Skills need to be more impactful but be less spamable.

The biggest issue on a design level without going into things is this, DPS can be constant, support is weak and infrequent and control is artificially hampered and REALLY infrequent.

Also not having stuff like healing power scale while resing people is dumb.

I main a Zerkerguardian that focuses on perosnal damage mitigation, wall of reflect, party shout cleansing, stability/protection/regen giving so I am certainly not an advocate of “tanking” or lazy play.

guest to blackgate nuff said, go to wvw… thing is each server is rather large and people don’t want to be in 90% of the content of this game because it won’t reward you or give you anything special.

I still feel for pve they should go for an elderscrolls route, remove server distinctions, have multiple (choosable) servers with population counters on each map (Basically what they do with overflow with a bit more control on the player side, they had the list in beta so I know they can do it) and then have a few basic settings for the players to set early on so that the players choose whether they want to auto join a world with more friends/guildies in it, certain language speakers, and low, medium or high population on the map itself.

At the moment you may have lower level maps feel deserted over 18 different servers, but under this system if there is ONE person who would be running around each of these servers they would all end up together in one map and suddenly rather than 1 person being on the low level map there are 18.
The overflow system can handle this.

Well this sucks, I was SERIOUSLY hyped about entering… I thought awesome… something that actually speaks to me and as someone who makes music videos as a hobby and for various competitions I can’t stress how hyped I was enough.

But kitten … Seems like it is open to most other big countries just not Australia.

Eligibility: “Rock the Nightmare Music Video” Contest (“Contest“) is open to legal residents of the fifty (50) United States (including District of Columbia), Canada (excluding Quebec) and Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and United Kingdom

Once again, voicing my displeasure and sadness… Awesome contest but sucky exclusion… Next time rather than exclude all the other countries add a reason why they can’t be a part of it and offer an alternate prize or if it is to do with shipping, put a clause in for the entrants that they are required to cover a part of the shipping. I don’t know.

Just that big “super hype than super disappointed” syndrome thing happening.

Frankly zerker builds are 90% pointless in this fight and support/aoe and general utility builds will be far more important.
Can’t wait to do this again when people are trying harder and getting a better idea of the mechanics.

Stupid people on turrets and people just rushing to do the same thing that they always did were what stopped my overflow from getting past 90%… This will change and players will learn.

Wait and till you see the fight before kittening r_r

Dear god people and their whining, I am probably more critical than 90% of the people on this forum but even I wait and see how things are implemented or clarify my statement’s before jumping into pointless hyperbole.

Karka and SI events aren’t comparable either as many have said before and the unique loot will keep people coming back again and again especially for stuff like the dragon mini, if it is tradeable and rare people will want it and it will sell for a lot.
Hare content only ever puts people off when it isn’t rewarding (KQ for instance, and even then the event isn’t hard… the lead up to it is just long and annoying for next to no reward)

If say you got a reward akin to a scarlet invasion run (for the average player) and a chance at rewarding objects? sure people would partake in it and learn how to play a little better.

Unrelated, god kitten I remember people talking about their “SI farms” and then laughing at the pitiful amounts of boxes that they were getting for their “farming”, I mean if you aren’t getting 40+ chests an event you have no reason to want the event to fail…

I always find it confusing/annoying when people skip, dredge, colossus and grawl fractals… I mean I have had people do it when doing daily’s of level 2 and 10
Hell I had someone skip a level 10 uncatogorized fractal… Possibly one of the easiest fractals to do at any level (yeah the knockdowns are annoying but with three warriors and a guardian you can just stability your way through it without a care in the world)

Then again most warriors run zerker builds and are fan freaking kittentastic at actually playing the game and go down every 3 seconds because they don’t understand why zerker warriors exist in the game.

This said I would never run a high level fractal without an organised team so -shrugs-

It is the like the issue in pve earlier in the week…
People weren’t using the crafting level thing because they were going “oh yay I can get all this gold” they were doing it because leveling is painful for many people and the game isn’t fun for them until 80.
Arenanet’s response was to change crafting levels so you can only get 56 levels from leveling all crafting professions to 400 now meaning it is putting off even more people, and why are skill scrolls for skipping levels 1-20? why not just give people 20 levels (or 20 skillpoints of they are already at 80)
It isn’t game breaking especially as there is no way to regularity get them other than your character’s birthday… and then what happens? I have a friend with 16 level 80 characters and ~9 skill scrolls (some haven’t had their birthdays yet) whoo.

Sorry went off on a tangent, the issue with ranking is it is utterly grindy, it would be better to have as others suggest a flat curve and with more rewards coming from tournament matchups.

Also another reason people grind is so that they can get 20slot bags for free.

Posted by: unknowable.8470

unknowable.8470

As a non PvE player I think you have a bit of a warped view of what PvE currently has… I know this may seem weird to hear (and I don’t disagree with your assessment of spvp on a whole) but sPvP is possibly the closest thing to polished the game has at the moment and their PvE updates have been far from wonderous.
I mean look at the next update which I am really looking toward and hoping that it is good, but in reality it is just fixing how bad the giant world boss fights were in the first place.

PvP has effected pve too many times skill wise and thrown off balance too…. Spirit weapons used to be viable early on, but now because they were invulnerable in PvP (which I could totally understand changing) have a health bar AND a timer… 90% of the time in pve they die so fast it is a waste of a utility slot.

Or AoE abilities of players AND most mobs being limited to 5 targets… Look at the Shadow Behemoth… I was watching old beta footage I had taken recently and whole scores of players would go down to the red circles it would make… now… even if my character does get hit while standing still… I take ~300-600damage tops, even with an under leveled character.
Heck I 5manned it during the scarlet invasions just to see what it was like and it STILL didn’t dent me.

So yeah,
TL;DR
PvE requires frequent updates to keep people playing because the core game is needing so very much fixing, I mean even the leveling process is painful.
sPvP requires lots of finesse fixing and every fix takes much longer and has a wider effect than most people think.
WvW… WvW is actually coming along at a pace I am happy with tbh, once they add some better reward structures and commander tools I can see it being okay at updating at the pace it is now.

MF set only allowing OFFENSIVE stat

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: unknowable.8470

unknowable.8470

However that isn’t what they promised.

When I say traveler I mean traveler weapons and named armour, those were MF gear… where that MF gear dropped initially should be irrelevant. Explorer gear and weapons give access to most stats while the Traveler type gear is limited to some crafted stats (zerker, cleric, rampager) but has none of the other options.

The whole stat swap was meant to be there to compensate people for the armor having it’s stat’s removed.
Any of the armour that was soulbound STAYED soulbound so it isn’t even the argument that it COULD be useful for alts if they for some reason didn’t have a zerker set or one of the others that you actually wanted.

So yeah, anyone who bought explorer or crafted explorer is laughing… those who got traveler or named gear… kittentastify them.

Karma trinkets always have limited selections.

Where it came from shouldn’t matter, it was magicfind gear and arenanet said that we would be able to swap stats to a crafted set, as I said… didn’t expect celestial, kinda weird that givers and settlers aren’t options but I don’t care too much.

I have a number of magic find items and sets that were of the loot type
“traveler vs explorer for instance”
But rather than getting to select any other type of stat set… they only get SOME of the offensive sets and condition sets… no knights, no rabid, no valkyrie.

I took a gamble nabbing an extra set for my ele in the hopes that it could be celestial but that I was happy to gamble with, I knew it would be likely that they would end up soul bound upon use… HAPPY with… knew they couldn’t be sold… also FINE with.

But they do NOT translate to other craftable stat sets unless they have explorer in the name which is a PAIN.
I don’t need any other zerker sets thank you, and the only character I would want condition on already has it (necro)

Healing and you

in Guardian

Posted by: unknowable.8470

unknowable.8470

Actually the point of why people run shouts on a zerker build is to not be selfish kitten, provide that aegis (retreat), provide group -33% damage reduction and provide group stability ALL with group condition removal attached to this (not just removal but conversion actually)

Fact is I can’t see any reason to go healing spec in pve, heals of reason in wvw, but none in pve (people will enjoy what they enjoy) however going something like monks focus to keep yourself alive longer, but not help your party at all and have them die because you are hitting for wet pancakes with no power to speak of or precision.

The other great thing about a guardian going down the honor line is if you play a precision build (not even crit damage but something like knights will still work) is that you can get 100% uptime on vigor which is doubling your dodging time and giving you an extra 2400hp of heals over four dodges (20seconds) not to mention using them to actually evade.

I would also like to mention if you can get vigor from someone else you can actually boost dodge healing (which heals the entire group) up to 3.3k heals, that is an extra 3.3k group heal ontop of vigor.

I have no issue with non zerker builds despite my using one, but any build that doesn’t give a team benefit just seems utterly pointless to me.

Like before, I’ll throw out the caveat that I’m not claiming that the SAB team is that master craftsman pushing the medium forward in dramatic brilliant ways. Only that we are THINKING about the design choices we make, we recognize when we are breaking rules, and we have a reason for doing so. Because SAB exists within the ecosystem of Guild Wars 2 it’s not going to be an exact replica of IWTBTG. We’re a hybrid, and that brings lots of interesting challenges with it. I’m sure we’ll learn a lot from this first TM release, and incorporate those lessons into the next round.

Well, that’s enough prattling at 2:30 am! Good night/morning!

I have nothing but upmost respect for you and you seem to be very in touch with a lot of development concepts which is nice.

Very very happy to see some more challenge gated content, what I would like to see some more of is challenge gated content that has a grind or chance option along side of it.
This way it won’t lock out the other players entirely but give those of us who like playing the game and challenging ourselves some fun content.

Wrong person to say this to I know, but personally I feel that is how precursor’s need to be handled.

I will just run down my idea here before eventually adding it to my rather long list of things that I will end up creating a rough design document for one day.

Add in “achievement” quests for precursors (selectable like the current weapon and armour skins)… This then unlocks an item that takes you to a specific precursor challenge arena (like the queens gauntlet), you will then have to go through a series of queens gauntlet like challenges themed to the precursor/legendary… maybe 3 rounds with a finale of liadri difficulty before earning the precursor at the end if you get through.
And from now on that quest is unlocked for you to unlock an account bound precursor of that type whenever you beat that challenge (shouldn’t be hard to make it non mystic forge able)

This way it is time gated to certain AP levels (I would go with every 3k points personally), difficulty gated AND people get to use the weapon while earning the rest of the materials needed for the precursor. Heck even put a Karma cost in getting into the arena to try out for the precursor, that way people can’t just buy their way in and there is a limited number of retries.

I would also say adding a different skin or minor effects to precursors would be nice, give people that feel that they are working towards something like was originally said when the devs first started talking about legendary weapons.
Oh and make legendary weapons account bound on equip. it costs too kitten much to make them and frankly I would love to make multiple sets but I just don’t have the energy if I can’t enjoy it on an alt and then bring it back to my main when I am not sick of playing the main anymore.

But yeah
Precursor’s could have skill based challenges unlocked every 3k points and entry costs of 42k karma or maybe 10 laurels (With the players choice between them)
3 consecutive themed fights. And a single non forgeable precursor rewarded upon successful completion.

It would take time to develop the fights, but I believe it is very do-able and probably the best counterpart to the current system.

I was also thinking having something like an “obsidian titan” or something of the like would be VERY cool to have an extremely challenging group fight that rewards obsidian shards (not that they are hard to come by AT ALL, but it is just nice to have a challenge or grind option in games and I think this plays into gw2’s core philosophy better)

I really think you guys are getting better at your content releases and encounters in general, great job and I look forward to seeing the future, still gotta say… Aside from SAB itself nothing released this year even comes close to the three patches last year.

Without the bugs LostShores would have been fantastic (and it was until the lag hit in that final event an hour in, by george that was the best group content I had ever played in an mmo and there was more than enough plot in that update and leadup)

It is rather amusing really, the first three updates all felt more like a living world and living story than ANYTHING that has come since.

Good to hear something is being done… I have in the timespan of gw2 used a 3770k and just recently a 4770k (I upgrade every year) always with 16gb or more of ram and always off an SSD with the following graphics card setups in order
First a 6990 (was horrible as I couldn’t disable a card) then 2x 570’s didn’t work too badly when I dissabled SLI and just ran off one, a single 680gtx ran great then some patch towards the end of the year changed something and frame drop spikes happened whenever I turned my camera fast (the clock on the card drops, the usage drops and the cpu usage is still at 40% to 60%)

Now I am using a 780gtx and it STILL gets horrible fps for what I should be expecting with the cpu NEVER going over 60% (and I have sat with logs going for hours)

-shrugs- I guess some folks can’t play over 40fps… but really with my gear and a system that flogs metro last light, and can run supcom FA in 1000unit matches during settons clutch without any slowdowns….

You think that you will have two AUDIO devices and everything will be fine ?

go to bios and disable the onboard audio and use only the asus pci audio device mate . the game opens many handlers for audio and as you can see in my post the onboard audio device “steal” cpu power https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/7-years-old-PC-without-LAG-in-WWW-1080p/first#post2643522 and the audio is the “guilty” for the lag spikes in game

or at least choose the asus from the options in the sound ( by default the gaem is using the default and propably it is using your onboard audio – aka realtek and not the pci aka asus xonar )

Well see thing is as I said the cpu usage is still low overall. The game is using my xonar card not the realtek both by selection and by well, the obvious part where it wouldn’t be outputting to my speakers or my front port jack (headphones)
I will disable it in the bios on the off-chance that it does something however I actually use the realtek outputs for my voip channel handling so I can record things separately without visualizing a card.

Hmmm I really do think arenanet should be a tad worried about EQnext, they won’t loose their pvp crowd to it but given that it is free and has interesting solutions to problems they face. Even if it only does a quarter of what it aims to do, no amount of “you can come back at any time” will make people want to come back.

This said they are improving with the last couple of updates, I just think the base game needs a bit of a polish. I mean does anyone else remember that before launch they were saying it would ship with dx10.1 support (which would have meant better performance on newer cards and much improved lighting, shadow and shader support if handled correctly) and then it was said that it would be added later and now it is nearly a year later than that.
Time will tell, I got a lot out of this game already time wise even with months and months of hiatus but I hope that it can find it’s ultimate ground before something bigger comes along.

Interesting use of the word fine, if I am not able to max out the graphics card of cpu and get lower than 60fps this is not exactly fine on a system like this.

ah well, if it is how it is it is how it is. I really do hope arenanet do some engine optimization at some point though because that is not really great on the grand performance scale of things.

I run at 1440p
I can do that but it still dips to 40 when turning in lions arch so I have kept reflections on all for the moment.
I turn shadows down to High and it stops the framerate drop from being as drastic in open world situations.

Oh and I just turned off player names always showing and I got an extra 10-15fps in zergs r_r
Reminds me of during the first two betas where if you hovered over the toolbar it would drop your framerate by about 5-10 fps.
or how even now having any window open does massive damage to the framerate.

I am running a 3770k
780gtx
16gb of ddr3 1:1 at 1600
256gb vertex 4 main drive
off a z77 Asus Sabertooth motherboard.

And even on a perfectly clean installation of windows and with the latest drivers I get terrible framerates and my CPU usage at BEST barely goes above 30-38% on all cores with my graphics card’s usage rarely going over 60%

What gives? (and by horrible I mean sub 60fps, ~45fps in crown pavilion and ~45fps in lions arch, 60fps in open areas but a sharp drop to 50fps 45fps when rotating, turning vsynch off gives me ~140fps until I rotate the camera where it stutters briefly and drops down to 45fps in any area before going back up.)
Big Zergs net me around 30-40fps in wvw and dragon fights. 40 is lucky.

Driving me nuts that this is still not looking to be improved in any way since release.

Oh and whenever the camera turns and the fps turns both the cpu and gpu usage percentages drop about 20%

I mean seriously my computer can run metro last light on max settings… and the cpu is no slouch.

As I said it SHOULD have been a separate vote or atleast both candidates and outcomes should have been covered properly in game so people were informed.

There was bugger all info on that time in Nightfall. It is mostly a mystery with small bits revealed and that is why having a fractal would have been good, we could have gotten a bit of closure.

I love the idea of permanent votes but the way this vote was set up lead to people not knowing what they were voting for or people who didn’t care impacting those who did.

They also have made it VERY clear that we will never get it now.

It isn’t collapsing by these dev notes.

Also they could have had it as a millitary training simulation so they could continue to develop the “Ai” behind the clockwork soldiers, have backing from the order of the whispers to see how accurate they could make the “illusions” and use the soliders as powerful assassin’s/spies

HELL we could even have an entrance fee.

The crap that was spewed about the mini being a sign of how cool we are and the community built around waiting in line. THAT DOESN’T WORK WITH TEMPORARY CONTENT.
Lines will just be long and annoying now as everyone tries to get as much in as possible… And the hard to acquire mini won’t matter as nobody else will be able to go and see how hard that content was that was only around for 2 weeks.

Why was the fractal ever tied to the event in the first place.
It should be voted upon sure, but tying it to an event that was voted for by people who neither knew what they were voting for nor had any care about fractal permanent content or lore saddens me.

There could have been other fluff tied to the election or even other content /rewards

Have a vote after the election during the jubilee where we get “lions council referendum tokens” and a message from kiel to her constituents “My first act as a member on the council is to” and then give a run down of the lore behind each.

And for anyone who counters by saying “it is old lore”
NO IT kitten WELL WASN’T, Abbadon’s lore was all about his fall from grace and banishment BEFORE guild wars 1’s timeline happened or was even close to happening.

Hell he is responsible for everything that happened in the first three guild wars releases.

Titans, Shiro and ofcourse his direct involvement in Nightfall.

Have the players vote in a more meaningful and less biased way… Don’t tie the vote to some guy who has had NO story time or influence vs Kiel’s spotlight and less slimy appearance.

Voting was good, the implementation was dodgy for what is permanent content and an expansion of lore.

I repeat, I don’t want it to all be permanent but they could make stuff like this permanent and it is going directly against what the developers were saying was the concept behind this content.

There will be no community nor any bragging rights nor any real fun challenge BECAUSE people cannot work up to it, go try it later and take their own time with it.

Just a terrible idea… So disappointed.

First was the way the election was handled with Gnashblade getting no story time before the election so people could get as attached to him as kiel and having the vote tied to content that people don’t care about but could still influence.

Having the fractals be voted upon was a cool idea, but the way it was done was stupid because the majority of players do not play fractals at all… It could have been extra content after the election and had a separate ballot.
have things drop “lions council referendum tokens” in world and be sent a mail in game asking which one the people of lions arch would like to support,

“We want to build a sense of community”
Ah yes, see I was happy to hear this in the twitch stream… Then it was revealed to be temporary, hell even the developer seemed upset having to say this.

So instead of a sense of community or mini’s that matter… no anything we can get from this is pointless as in 2-4 weeks from now nobody can see where we got the mini at all nor verify it’s difficulty. To top this off we have to compete in lines with heaps of other players because everyone knows that it is not staying.

For those arguing that there may be a story reason
“We don’t want Queen Jenna to seem to be allowing Divinities Reach to be constantly in celebration”
“It may come back in the future if you ask enough, but I cannot make any promises”

So no, I don’t think it will have a real thematic reason.

I AM OKAY with the idea of some temporary content, but we have gotten too much, and this was the first thing I was excited to have all year because I thought for sure it would be temporary… Make it funded by the people competing if you need a story hook. Make it something you are using to train the intelligence and battle power of the clockwork devices or even working with the Order of the Whispers to create spies.

But this is tiresome. Guild wars 2 may not have a subscription fee but there are big games on the horizon and people need a fond memory to return at all or they will just move on, not now, not in 6 months but in 8months time things will start to show I have no doubt.

The game’s base is fantastic, the things that can be done are great… But there is too much of an all or nothing approach going on.

The first two updates were amazing, the third was what I expected for wintersday.

I mean look at sky pirates of tyria, they went as far as to mark all the suspects on the maps in glowy yellow stars. Why weren’t there clues littered about, mad king memoirs style. People who find that hard can be directed to heralds for help, or even a consumable item that will do these things.

Overall I am sad, I have been here since beta weekend 1 and I am sad… It doesn’t have to be this way and the good content is just being thrown to the wayside.

As for people who say “well they have said they are bringing in more permanent content” yes they did… and have been saying changes for a long time “we are overhauling all the dungeons” “it is easy to add more fractals” and so on so forth… they haven’t happened yet so cannot be banked on, all we can discuss is their track record.

I would also like to say that LostShores despite the lag was AMAZING and I was so hyped at the time, even with having all that lag an hour into the last event.
Without the lag the event itself would have been amazing too, a perfect mix between story, events, rewards, timing, progression, challenge and content.
Not saying that every update should have a new area but the characters and ingame interaction was great.

I cannot say that about anything after wintersday.

So... everything in this patch is temporary

I find it really sad that the argument people use AGAINST permanent content is “they say they will be doing it”
Guess what they also said they would fix the lacklustre dungeons back in january… Look what still hasn’t happened.
They also said back in November that fractals were easy to add, guess what hasn’t happened.

I don’t want temporary content to go I just want some stuff to stay that makes sense, the clockwork arena makes sense to stay, also I doubt it is going to be destroyed as the twitch stream simply said “oh we don’t want it to seem like jenna is having a perpetual celebration” and “it may come back if people ask, I am not making any promises”
Really? how about fun content, I was kitten ed that the abbadon fractal vote was tied to a character that had no story introduction and that permanent content was determined by people who either didn’t know about it or didn’t care because they don’t play fractals THAT isn’t fair nor is it respectful.

kitten I hope EQ Next does well, it is looking good so far.

The issue with GW2 isn’t the game, it is the choices being made for the game, a lot of the stuff that can be done can be done with little effort and with a balance but people at arenanet atleast the ones in charge seem to decide “well it is either all one way or all the other way”

Keep increasing that difficulty.

unknowable.8470

No thank you. The difficulty is just fine for me.
There is a simple way to make “easy” content more challenging. Take off your exotics and accessories. Use builds that you haven’t “min/maxed”. Use armor/skills that are appropriate for the level area you are playing in.

So rather than have a balanced game with 60-70% in the easy area… Everyone should have easy content with no medium, hard or very hard content because YOU don’t want it.

Hate to tell you but running dungeons with most builds and even with masterwork gear and only exotic armour isn’t exactly a hard thing… I even run with under 80’s for stuff like AC and CM.

The thing is more about how they are set up at the moment is terrible.

I bet you are one of those people who consistently whine about the mobs in SS being too hard r_r… when all 80 areas should be atleast that damaging.

Keep increasing that difficulty.

I think something that people REALLY need to stop focusing on is the idea that there has to be JUST hard or JUST easy content.

There can be very easy or easy content (the current), medium content, moderate content, hard content and very hard content.

GIVE PLAYERS GAMEPLAY PROGRESSION, I dunno maybe I spend too much time as a GM doing pen and paper roleplays and designing encounters but it is very doable to give players multiple options and places/challenges.

Time is something that needs to be rewarded and challenge is something that should lower the time barrier for the same reward. Defiance needs a change, it needs to be there but I think it needs a major change up in how it works.

Boss fights need to be more like fractal boss fights, the MF charged berserker or most of the story boss fights.
I swear go back to the story dungeons, imagine a harder version of it that was a bit more punishing and had some fractal mechanics… that is all that is needed to balance out dungeons.

The game can survive with harder content but it is needing that middle ground so people CAN learn to play the game, so they CAN learn how to use their trait lines and not just spam an ability.

People complain about the grawl fractal boss but by god he is well designed, it takes advantage of CC abilities, DPS and support, admittedly CC could be better but it still takes advantage of all three.

Also until the much higher levels fractal trash mobs get the HP/damage ratio just right… They have CC, they support each other, they do enough damage and they aren’t HP tanks that destroy the active feel of combat… The fights are fun and engaging without being boring or too time consuming.

But yeah as I said, go back to the story mode dungeons and see how much better designed the encounters are and how the dungeons themselves are longer.
Personally I am going to go back and two man every storymode dungeon just for laughs and because I can see it being a fun experience.

Oh and world boss meta events, make them harder and make a big chain of events to unlock the meta boss with a failure state… This way you can reward the completion with higher rewards without unbalancing the structure of the game.

I can stand still in the red circles of the shadow behemoth and not get hurt, even with my recently created level 8 asura… Not a single person goes down or gets hurt…. Why can’t there be more portals around queensdale that randomise in location and number, have people do more, have the shadow behemoth trying to break through in multiple areas, or rise up in different parts of the swamp (like a gigantic whack a mole)

Different attacks… I was watching beta footage again from the first beta, holy cow things did more damage… even at level 10-15 they did HEAPS more damage, heck bandits even dodged… dodging enemies. The frostwurm from the norn opening could down players with one whip around…

Elitism is ruining this game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Honestly the game needs and overhaul in challenge and mechanics.;.. the base mechanics are fine but the actual content in the game is underwhealming from both a story and gameplay side of things not just the poor loot and lack of a difficulty challenge anywhere for players.

In my opinion they could use the “transformation into branded” that we saw in beta 2 finale at the shatterer if we got caught by a certain attack and then like the melandru temple keep people in that form with a 2 hour condition that applies to them in that zone and transforms them into a risen whenever they enter it (sure people will use alts but not all the time)

Then get the shaterer to move about, have multiple phases, start a battle across the entire map.

Make meta events big… maybe not all the time, have other less inspired meta events take the place of what we currently have but have world boss fights be engaging and take hold of the dynamic idea. oh and yeah put gauntlets of enemies between you and the spawn points.

I mean there are so many events that could be rigged that make more sense than attacking it’s feet. lots of ruins it could sit on and show it’s full size.

Scale everyone up to 80 when it comes too…

Please BAN the exploiters!
