My query pertains to the Basic Collections (actually all collections) introduced on the 9/9 patch.

I have submitted in-game bug reports of these collections not being able to activate, and various NPC’s not being available to retrieve items from. Also certain vendors not stocking the goods that are required for certain collections either.

Can we get some feedback on this please, or better, an ETA for a fix?

PS: I started a thread on collections a couple of weeks back and no one has come back with anything productive other than ’it’s a bug’.

There’s not much I can say other than these appear to be bugs from what you’re describing. If you have submitted in-game bug reports, then please rest assured that our Quality Assurance team has received them and will look into the matter.

Yes. On the page for registration, the e-mail address and the password that you register must be the same e-mail address and password for the Guild Wars account in order to link the accounts and register the trial to the same e-mail address. Linking can be done later if your friend is unable to remember the information needed to log in to their Guild Wars account; I would suggest registering it on another e-mail address in this case if your friend would just like to play without any extra potential hassle.

I listened to the entire VoD, I think this might be an opportune moment to mention that I will be enforcing the Guild Wars 2 Code of Conduct for the World Tournament Series at my own discretion, including punishments that can result in a player or entire team being ineligible to participate in a single or multiple World Tournament Series Events.

If you know who I am or how I’ve gotten to where I am today, you’ll know that I’m very passionate about Guild Wars 2 PvP, and I’m excited to finally be in a position to help drive a project like the World Tournament Series forward. Having been on both sides of the player/dev fence, I know that what we’re trying to do with the WTS is going to be a communal effort – meaning I’ll need your help just as much as you’ll need mine.

The first part of moving this project forward is to start treating your fellow teammates, competitors, and players with the respect they deserve. The World Tournament Series and all the associated events should be an exercise in community building and education, with new and veteran players alike getting interested, whether they’re participating or not. Players in the WTS effectively represent Guild Wars 2 as a whole, and toxicity will not be allowed to be a part of that.

So please, take this as a friendly reminder – you should always treat your fellow players in a decent manner, and in accordance with the Guild Wars 2 User Agreement and Code of Conduct. If you’re planning on playing competitively in the WTS, community events, or otherwise, you will be under additional scrutiny.

We will be releasing legal documentation on the World Tournament Series in the coming weeks, but if you have any questions in the meantime, feel free to contact me or create a thread on these forums.

Yep! This is so we can have an even number of teams and go for a standard elimination tournament, rather than something like round robin.

Thanks for the read, Aeroxe. I read through this yesterday on my phone and didn’t have a chance to reply.

As you mention in your post, building a team isn’t just about mechanical skill or game knowledge – it’s also about personality. There are a lot of people that I’ve played with in the past that were very gifted players, but sometimes it just doesn’t work out on a personal level, and really, that’s OK. Ultimately, finding people you enjoy playing with and working towards a common goal is much more satisfying and rewarding than trying to shoehorn a group of individuals together and hoping for the best.

Up until recently there hasn’t been a lot of incentive for top-tier teams to stick together after an event such as ToL/ToG, but hopefully now as we have multiple planned LAN events through the next year, teams can start playing the long game, learning to grow together as a team rather than look for replacements at the first sign of adversity.

Anyways, good luck in the finals, Aeroxe. Maybe I’ll see you in Beijing.

Let’s say someone has final rest. If they put it up to sell for 1 gold, they get 1 gold. The highest buyer pays 1g to him and received the rest of his buy order back. This person sold the item for 2c, so you receive the item plus your buy order – 2c.

I think some of these could help you with interpreting what your metrics are telling you. Rather than telling everyone what someone thinks or wants the metrics to tell them.

Now those are interesting ideas! That form of survey makes a lot more sense than the one requiring a answer coupled with an essay question, or the simple yes/no. A few are too vague, but overall, they have good potential. Thanks for these ideas.

Gavian, is there anything I can do to reduce the lockedRect.pbits error from occurring? It’s pretty disheartening to wait through a queue of 50 people only to crash after 20 minutes in the middle of what was supposed to be an epic fight.

Had that twice tonight.

The best thing is just getting the data from you guys in this thread and keeping this thread updated. We have three different groups working on this and coordinating with each other on it. Cold comfort I know but we are trying to run it down.

I appreciate the feedback. I just wonder how such a survey could work. Most surveys are not essay questions. They’re like this:

  • Should we change [this thing]? Yes/No.

That seems unhelpful. First, things are seldom answered with just a yes or no answer. Instinct is to react, “Well, I need to know more about why you’re looking at that area,” or “That’s not as important as [these other things]” or “Yes, please change it [this way] and not [that other way].”

Or maybe you’re thinking:

  • Which of these things should we focus on? [list]

And we all know, given we’re forum members, that those opinions — about priorities or changes — could number in the dozens. Nah, probably in the hundreds.

Maybe it’s an essay question. Maybe it’s “We’re looking for feedback on [this thing]” where you can provide your thoughts in detail. If that’s the case, may I introduce you to the CDIs?

You make good points, it’s not possible for any human being to read every thread. And certainly when their job is making a game — design, programming, art, writing, and all the other facets of development — reading the forums in large amounts could take them away from their job at a cost to the game.

But if 300 Anet Team members are reading the forums, even if lightly, it starts discussion. Heck, I’ve sent notes about threads to various teams, and I know just about every other person here has done the same. Like this: “I don’t work on [such-and-such], but I found [this linked thread] really interesting.” Or maybe, “This is for your team. I think we can support it by doing [our stuff] if you are going to work on this.”

So surveys? Maybe they’ll happen, I’m not sure. Could you outline your thoughts on how they’d look? Input on something topical? CDIs are great — are you participating? Have you made a suggestion there that we have one on a topic near and dear to your heart?

Please don’t see this as a “never happen” response. I’m mostly just asking questions, that’s all.

Why aren’t you using the HTTP response code to check for errors?

Those errors are coming from different levels/servers, so it’s not super surprising they’re different. We can take a look at standardizing but you should always use the HTTP status code first and foremost.

22. Triumphant Distortion (?)

  • Triumphant Distortion (possibly all distortion and invuln?) prevents you from receiving the hammer buff to attack the seals on the Cliffside Fractal.

Late reply, but figured you could use an update to know we are reading these.

This was a bug with how the hammer itself was unlocking Skill 4, and not any one particular profession’s ability fault. We’re investigating this now to make sure the fix works globally for all professions.

bradldz is correct. Take a look in your collections tab in your personal bank. You can take the minis out and add them to your wardrobe with a right-click. Should you have more than one account bound mini of a kind, you can safely delete the rest after adding it to your wardrobe (make sure you actually added it to avoid accidental loss).

There are many factors that go into the population status of a server and going into detail would be too complex right now and probably would require a developer to chime in as well to fully explain it.

But a good estimate is to use the whole “accounts that call a server home” metric.

It certainly doesn’t solve that issue, you are correct.

The only way to play WvW together in that case would be for him to move to his friends server. There is no way to circumvent the fact that some servers are full.

If you’re considering how the GW2 Team can best hear your input about the game — such as what you’d like to see in the future, how things are working now, etc. — I personally don’t think a survey is necessary. Honestly and truly: These forums are a huge and very effective medium for communication. They are read daily by members of the team — probably more people than you think! — and the forums, as a whole, give us a much better view of what’s important to Guild Wars 2 players than most surveys would do.

Too we have interaction here that’s incredibly effective. Yep, I’m thinking CDIs and I’m glad they’re back! (Even if I marvel how Chris is able to keep up the pace! )

Surveys are difficult to devise in a way that makes them unbiased and statistically accurate. That’s not to say it cannot be done, and the idea of surveys linked to an active game account certainly sounds better to me than those random Internet surveys, like “Who’s your favorite singer,” which get gamed through fan groups, artist management companies, publicists, agents, and the use of “ballot-box stuffing” methods, like vote, clear cache, vote again; vote, change computers, vote again; vote, set up 100 fake e-mail accounts, vote again.

Anyway, just wanted to add a couple of pennies about the subject, fwiw.

Choosing your initial home world is not too much different from transferring to another world. The main restriction in both cases is that you can’t choose a world that is already full.

With Megaservers and merged guild chapters in place however, you can still play in the same party on the same maps and instances without even noticing you are on different worlds, as long as you are registered on the same server region (NA or EU). The worlds only really come into play for WvW.

And jackaljag is also correct when he says that we don’t warn players about their accounts being suspended or even terminated. We just do it and then the players will have to contact us about the issue. We usually work things out in tickets.

Just curious to see the response here – is there any change in performance when playing in FullScreen mode? We’ve seen this issue occur mostly in “Windowed” and “FullScreen Windowed” and we’d like to see if you all experience any difference while playing in FullScreen mode.

36 minutes on my connection for a full update (4 languages) – while downloading chunks of just 50. I guess it’ll be done in a few minutes on darthmaim’s server then (gw2treasures.de). I ran a v1 update before just for testing and it was like i predicted ~ 3 hours.

I’ve made this naive approach exactly to show how inconvenient it is to retrieve certain items at the moment.

The current API design somewhat encourages lots of API calls which are obviously bad both for Arena.NET and for the user. An item search API or an interface like your item_names.json would be quite a pleasure.

I’m currently caching all items in a similar structure as your item_names.json but to build this I still need to download every single item once. This is a pretty huge amount of data just to make a simple search: ~38k items = ~38k HTTP calls…

38000 items / 200 per page using pagination = 190 requests.

But yes, I agree a search API would be nice!

Hey everyone,

I appreciate the wealth of info that you’ve all provided and rest assured, we’re still hammering away at this issue though we can’t say for certain when we will have a fix rolled out as these types of issues can often be very difficult to repro in house.

That said, we’re still investigating the issue but in the mean time, if you haven’t already, I’d advise turning on Vertical Sync or setting the Frame Limiter to 60 FPS as this does appear help (at least for some).

I’m sorry I don’t have more news to provide at the moment though I would advise checking back with this thread for more updates on the issue.

“Blast from the Past” progresses to “Victory or Death” if you’ve already done “Against the Corruption.” If you haven’t you’ll need to do that story arc, then it will finish out with “Victory or Death.” It sounds like the Wiki is only accounting for the current structure (where “Against the Corruption” is in Chapter 7) and doesn’t account for cases like yours, where you were on a step that got moved around. I don’t understand what steps you think you have to repeat.

Some story steps were moved around between Chapter 7 and 8. You won’t have to repeat any steps, you’re just over-levelled for the steps that are now in Chapter 7. One you finish the Chapter 7 storyline, you’ll be back in Chapter 8 where you left off.

How is this not a sticky?
Guild halls. Exactly like the ones in GW1, with a guild arena that other guilds can enter so the community can GvG(Guild VS Guild for all those that don’t habla). The halls could cost the players either gold or gems, or perhaps you could sell guild hall packages on the gem store(I know you like the sound of that Anet). The halls, however, should not be temporary. If you buy one, you have one. These should not be like PvP arenas(a huge gold sink).

It will be a sticky. I need to put the CDI proposal in before we sticky it and move forward.

Thank you all for your kind words they have really meant a lot to me.

We are still in the middle of issues and whilst I am back at work now I am not 100% confident that I can give you all my undivided attention and the CDI and its members need that.

I am anxious to get our proposal written and move onto Guild Halls and am also concerned at the pause in the process.

With this in mind I am aiming to get the CDI proposal done and then move onto the next phase by Monday (maybe earlier, perhaps the weekend).

Personally, I would have trouble finding any old information if this thread were in any way locked or changed, especially since the search function on these forums doesn’t always work right.

I think it would be very confusing for many people if they can’t find information due to the thread being changed.

I think this thread should stay the same.

I take this on board, and thanks for sharing your thoughts.

The last thing I want to do is to deflect or throttle discussion because as I said, this is a a really great thread. Given the… umm… “less-than-stellar quality” of our search engine, I agree we should just leave it be.

Is that order consistent enough for paging though? I.e. when using the paging mechanism, can I be sure that I get every object at some point, or is it possible that some will be missed because the order for one page ended up being different than the other?

We start w/ the complete list of IDs for paging, so yes. Each individual page may not have a guaranteed order, but it does have a guaranteed set of IDs that will be returned.

If you don’t have access to your Guild Wars account any longer, you can either contact support for assistance with regaining access to your Guild Wars account or register your trial account on another e-mail address and then link the accounts later, should you wish to do so. The second option is easier and quicker overall.
