World 1 cages are meant to be a cake-walk. The problem comes with grinding and feeling the need to fight them 20 times a day. That’s a problem I hope to address next release. Also the cages in future worlds will have more interesting attack patterns that will require some level of strategy. Also I fully endorse finding secret spots where bosses can’t hit you. That’s part of classic platform game strategy.
Whoa, this is great feedback! Thanks for taking the time to write this up, Symbolic!
There is a lot of off topic posting and general chatter happening in this thread lately. Remember that this thread is for guild recruitment only. Talk of battles, congratulations, etc needs to happen in another post. Last warning folks, so please heed it
Hey all, thanks for the feedback! Instead of removing Spirit Watch from the rotation, I’d like to point you towards some changes that Tyler has made that should address some of the issues you have brought up. This thread is located in the suggestions section: Spirit Watch – How to improve Orb. [sPvP].
While the idea of swapping the orb carriers skills is an interesting one, like you said, we feel it’s best that the individual player be able to use their skills. Changing an entire skill bar can be jarring for the player, especially in PvP, so we try to avoid it when we can.
Beyond that, we welcome any suggestions for additional changes!
All I am saying is when designing content, please do not assume all timing mechanics are uniform, because the very nature of the game’s operating environment means that this is not necessarily the case. Therefore you can do something to lessen the impact of lag.
There is no assuming happening. I’m very well aware that this variable exists. As stated above, the more we accommodate bad lag, the less of a challenge we are providing to those without it. That is a huge part of the reason we made easy mode.
The larger issue here is the fact that we are building a particular KIND of game on a platform that is not optimized for it. To me, the question is: Does the experience given outweigh the quirks of being on a less-than-ideal platform? The answer is that it varies depending on your lag. Overall the feedback has been very positive, so I think the answer for most is that the experience given does outweigh the quirks. I understand that forum response is not a perfect gauge, but it’s all we have to go on. I absolutely would LOVE to widen the net, to include as many as possible in that positive experience category, and as stated above, I’m happy to look into tweaking some values if that will do so.
Josh, I’m sorry, I really like SAB but you are dead wrong here.
Wouldn’t be the first time.
What you can do is making anything involving very tight timing more generous.
Well I like being generous. But I worry that I won’t be able to reproduce the difficulty of classic platform games if we end up putting in enough wiggle room to account for X lag. Whatever we decide that ought to be I would assume it will never be enough for everyone. Finding the right balance could be tricky. But I’m not averse to pulling off tricky things.
What I am saying is, testing in a zero-lag scenario, as you admit to doing, and balancing accordingly, is a very bad idea when you are designing a game around timing and jumping.
Fair point. Though I may be wrong about zero lag here. I’m not sure where the servers for our dev build lives. I think it might be in Texas. But I’ll have to look into this.
You may want to speak to the network team and get them to find a way so you can test this stuff by going outside your network (not via a VPN or the like) and testing it on the EU servers from the US. That should give you a more clear picture of what you are doing.
I’ll have to see what options are available to us. We did have beta testers all over the world, so it’s not like we were totally in a vacuum, but it’s true that our direct experience is with low lag.
Again though, you can do something about it, and it is not a case of “don’t make jumping puzzles” or “no timing elements”, that’s overdramatic and wrong,
hahaha… rebuke accepted. I get really annoyed when people do that to me. I wasn’t sure how extreme your position was and I ended up speaking to the assumption that you wanted a 100% solution rather than investigating and asking you what you meant.
Ultimately, if you balance solely for the players who have perfect ping, you will find fewer and fewer people enjoying SAB, especially if it gets harder as things go on.
This is a great point, and I’ll definitely see if we can find a workable solution that continues to challenge those with low ping while providing the wiggle room to those without. I don’t know if there will be a good solution, but I’ll look into it.
Generally, we’ve made a catch-all bucket with easy mode for those with bad lag, disabilities, crappy computers, low tolerance for spatial/timing challenges, etc. But I understand the frustration of being lumped in a category that you don’t want to be in.
Was Laranthir alive? He triggers the next step, if he’s downed it won’t proceed until he’s revived and continues on his path.
1) If you can’t think of anything original for your mmo, copying ideas from past successful games are a sure win.
Hahaha! That’s a deliciously back-handed compliment!
I’m not sure about the technicalities of it. I’m on vacation this week so I can’t walk down the hall and ask someone. But you have hit the dodge something like a tenth of a second after the jump. I don’t even know if you could bind that with a programmable mouse.
If you can hear it in your nightmares, there’s a good chance you’ll come across it in SAB.
To allow QA time to test new changes, most (non emergency) content changes go into the next monthly content update. I made the change right after the March update was finalized, so it will be in an update later this month (assuming it passes QA.)
We’ll look into this today and likely get a bug in on it, as that seems like something we’d prefer not to have be the case.
Yeah, keep in mind world 1 is easy. The difficulty will be rising as more worlds come in, as well as hard mode. I’m sure you’ll eat a LOT of CCs if you want to take that challenge on.
3. I use my mouse to turn. Always have. I don’t have a problem with the corner jumping. I don’t understand why some people can’t or won’t use their mouse? It’s really not that hard.
Well it IS hard if you have bad lag, have arthritis in your hands, only have one hand, or perhaps some kinds of dyslexia. I honestly wish to make my content accessible to as many as possible, while still retaining difficult optional parts. Easy mode was really important to me as it provides some form of access to the content for those who wouldn’t normally be able to succeed in this kind of content due to whatever reason. But ultimately not everyone can do well in Super Mario Bros. Not everyone can do well in SAB.
Lag IS something that can be addressed. STOP MAKING CONTENT AS THOUGH THERE IS NO LAG.
We could not make jumping puzzles. and we could make combat so there are no timing elements. Not sure that would make our game better though. When I say “we” can’t do anything about it, I mean our little SAB team. I have no idea how servers and lag work. I’m sure like every other department here, the server team is always working to improve the current system.
According to the tooltip on the pointy stick its range is 150, while the range for the key is 200. Is this correct? Because I find with the key I have to get much closer to enemies to hit them than I do with the stick.
Keep in mind you are scaled down unless you are an asuran.
Tip for other Aussies that miss longer jumps because of lag: Don’t jump until your character’s foot (one foot, not both) steps off the side. If you time it right you won’t walk off, and you will jump far enough to make it.
That’s not lag. That’s the player collision cylinder being a bit wider than your feet.
I’ll try to respond to some of the comments since my last post…
Yes, I do play this build in tournaments. I’ve used it for my last 30ish matches. I generally solo queue and I’m currently rank 289 NA. I’m playing this build because I prefer to use my own special blends, rather than flavor of the month builds. Would I be higher ranked if I was playing HGH? It’s entirely possible, but maybe not. At any rate I’m still winning more than I lose and having fun in the process. Part of the reason I play unpopular builds is to see how far off they are, and look for areas that we can improve to get them up to a similar level as the stronger builds.
Kit Refinement works in my build for a couple of reasons. First, I’m often bunkering a point. So my refinement is cooling down while I’m waiting for an opponent to show up, unless I’m preemptively dropping bandages and antidotes. It depends on who I expect to show up. The other reason is because my fights tend to last a long time, so even if it isn’t off cooldown at the very beginning of the fight, I’ll often still get multiple uses out of it before I fight is concluded.
Yes, sometimes rocket turret targeting does not end in my favor. However, the overcharge aoe is pretty big, and my build still works even if my rocket turret is missing my primary target. However, when the rockets are hitting, my build suddenly becomes lethal, rather than just tanky. And it provides some extra AoE CC through the overcharge knockdown and the detonate.
So you guys know, we already split some skills. And, what’s most pertinent to the current thread, we plan to do this even more.
When we first shipped, it was awesome to have a lot of the balance be the same between PvE/WvW/PvP. But, as you guys have really started to push the game types to their limits, classes and specs that work in one areas of the game are sometimes ineffectual in others.
Due to this, we’ll have to do more splitting of skills to better balance the various areas of the game.
TL:DR – We already do this, and we’ll be using it even more in order to balance the different areas of the game effectively.
I’m finishing up an F.A.Q. to answer a lot of these questions. I’ll try to answer as many as possible.
Win/Loss for the purposes of Leaderboards have been tracking for less time, so unless you only started playing tPvP recently, that number is unlikely to match.
We’re working on a solution to this. As a temporary workaround, you can try setting WvW Character Quality to lowest; it may not be the most desirable setting, but it should prevent this particular crash until we can get it resolved.
Also, if you’re consistently seeing the “Assertion: Model has an unexpected compute reference count” crash, could you please post the graphics settings that you’re using?
Thanks!
Why does this have to wait until the end of the month?
I understand that not everything can be fixed quickly, but since you already have a fix what’s the hold up? This kind of imbalance is very annoying, especially for more casual players without teams, and having to wait two weeks for a simple fix like this is disheartening.
Whenever we put out a new patch to the live game, it’s a big process that most of the staff is affected by. So an issue generally has to be really critical for us to justify putting out a hot fix outside of our normal build schedule.

Hmmm… this is odd. I suggest you try sending an email directly to Support@GuildWars2.com. That should generate a ticket and get you the help you need.
Oh we sure do take Visa! And yes, not having a valid card accepted is truly a pain, so I’m sorry you’re having this trouble.
You just posted, and I’m hoping this cleared up. One thing you might try is clicking the icon of the Visa on the order form. A few players have told me that enabled the purchase for them. What was the current objective?
Now, I need to know who thought of having the beedog scoot on its butt? I laughed out loud the first time I saw him do that with his eyes getting all wonky and it still makes me snicker.
Jeff Weber (modeler) created our creatures and Trevor Howell (animator) brought them all to life
As you can see they did some pretty amazing things!

I’ve made some changes to orb running that’ll show up in the end of April build. Ride the Lightning distance will be reduced while carrying the the orb, and gaining invulnerability will drop it.
Glad this is all sorted out and you’re where you want to be.
Have a great time in Guild Wars 2!
I need 1 more rank to have enough points for increased balista range and i was wondering if anyone has it or knows how much extra range it actually gives. Im trying to decide between range increase or a second supply increase and how much the balista range increase is will decide it for me
It will increase your range from 3,000 to 3,500.

hi guys,..
am from the middle east, and one of my friends want to buy the game " EU edition "
Will he be able to play with me on the US servers ? and if he can will it be lag-free ?thanks in advance
As long as the account is registered in the proper region — EU in the EU region; Non-EU (also called “North America”) in a non-EU region — he can then play from anywhere in the world.
This is not an account issue, and does not belong on the forums. If you wish to report this incident, please contact Support by filing a ticket through the “Ask a Question” tab on that linked page.

Lastly, I’m sorry about the name filtering, but it’s to prevent “creative spelling” of a disallowed word. We regret that this is necessary.
Hi bluegoat – The black screen issue can occur for a number of different reasons. What troubleshooting steps have you already tried?
As always, we try to listen to feedback and suggestions. We certainly wouldn’t rule anything out, but we aren’t currently working on it.
That shouldn’t keep you from giving us your opinions or ideas!
What browsers are you using?
It would be pretty epic if a A.R.E.N.A. commando jumped out of a chopper and threw you a thumbs up at level 80 though, just sayin.
One example of a change in Lion’s Arch was the destruction of the lion fountain during Halloween. You may have noticed that it was under construction for a few months before coming back.
Another example of change is when the lighthouse in Lion’s Arch was destroyed during the Lost Shores event, and the rising of the island at Southsun Cove—a location that wasn’t there at launch.

Hello Xlll – I can understand the confusion here. Just to clear things up, all European servers are physically located in Frankfurt. It’s just that the IP’s are registered in the U.S. by the company that has ownership of those registered IP’s.
Since Centrius’s question has been answered, I’ll lock this thread. Thank you.

Hi Ferdoc – Generally system shut down related issues such as this are hardware related. That being said, do you encounter any error messages at all before the shut down or does your PC simply power off? If it’s the latter, I would check to ensure there are no issues with your PSU, especially if you’ve added newer hardware to your system.
Hi there Cellesth,
