This is an invalid argument. This is equivalent to saying if you want one specific item, and only that item, there are no substitutes. In the end, that may be true relative to the person, since the aesthetics are subjective. The equivalent comparison is someone wants an iphone and no other phone, then there are no substitutes, except in the case of GW2 the functionality is exactly the same.

I’m not currently aware of any behavior that I would classify as an exploit.

I see this as permission to create characters with my my last 3 alt slots, then have them escorted to the rich node by my friend. From there they will never leave, only going to WvW occasionally to drop by the bank and pick up more mining picks from the endless supply of karma on my main.

I will take you to your word, and hope you simply tell me otherwise if your classification changes.. rather than ban me later.

It would be better if you purchased 10-15 extra character slots to do this.

Let’s make sure to keep a few things in mind when discussing:

1. No single person represents the population, do not assume that you do
2. These forums are not representative of the population

We should attempt to make our arguments based on what we know, not based on who we think has the largest amount of public opinion (Even if a large portion of the populace does agree with your side, using that as evidence is a logical fallacy).

This statement:

isn’t helpful.

I don’t mean to pick on you plasma, because you’re solid. To make it up to you I’ll discuss your points (though this sounds vastly narcissistic, I don’t mean it to be, just don’t have a lot I can give you. I’ll tell you the quantity traded of any item over the last 24 hours or something similar )

As a reminder from intermedate levels, many assumptions about what make “pure free markets” healthy break down under scrutiny (both in mmos and often in the real world, but MORE often in mms), including but not limited to:

I assume here you are referring to market failures occurring in natural markets. I would argue this happens significantly more often in the real world, but that may be a larger discussion.

1 – ease of entry for competition (both direct and indirect substitution)
2 – perfect distribution of information
3 – high elasticity of demand for any one product
4 – perfect liberty to bring goods to market (in the real world, when sugar gets too high, companies can sub in corn syrup. Not in any MMO i’ve seen)

1. MMOs are fantastic for this, especially GW2. There is nothing I can think of in the game that players can’t decide to enter into the market for because everything in the game you can just go get, there’s no stopping you.
2. There is imperfect information, but there is significantly less imperfect information than the real world. There is also less market failures associated with imperfect information because of homogeneous goods. Homogeneous goods are one really cool thing about virtual economies.
3. This isn’t unique to MMOs or the real world, neither are the actions associated with it. It’s possible I’m missing the point on this one.
4. For this I would argue the opposite. MMOs are notorious for substitute goods. Especially when it comes to stats, I can change rarity, type, order of stats in a myriad of combinations with less than a 1% change in my total effectiveness. Switching to corn syrup causes significantly more than a 1% change in a product.

I want to clear something up here, we do not auto-ban people without investigating the account first. Our CS staff reviews reports that come in and if they find questionable activity, they take whatever action they deem appropriate.

You may receive an automated response if you appeal actions taken against your account, but any action we take is reviewed and enacted by human beings.

It is true that we have reinstated folks that were banned erroneously for questionable activity, but we don’t take action against an account unless a very solid reason presents itself upon review.

Please note that I’m not commenting specifically on the actions take against those accounts mentioned in the OP and I have no information on why any action was taken in the cases mentioned. I just want everyone to understand that we don’t ban people just because they get a lot of reports against them, our CS folks have to find and confirm actual infractions before we take any action.

That’s great info, thank you! I’m reviewing that ticket and you’re absolutely right — the agent misspoke just a tad. We do take action if we are given evidence that a scam took place. What we cannot do is retrieve the stolen items or gold.

Preventing scams is a major reason why the Trading Post was developed, and why we so strongly encourage its use. The TP has substantially reduced player scamming, which is good for everyone. In cases where people choose to work outside the TP, they’re entering a Gentleman’s Agreement and we do not get in the middle of the trade. What we do get involved in, though, is taking action against the scammer, if we can establish that a scam took place.

So:

  • Use the Trading Post
  • If you do not, know that you’re putting trust in the other person
  • If you lose your gold or items, we cannot retrieve them
  • If you are scammed, we will do our best to establish this and take action against the scammer.

I hope that helps reassure you that we’re not “hands off” on scammers!

I have answered this many times. Please review the forums to find a previous answer. It has not changed over time.

If you have actual examples of an occasion that backs up the “adamently state they won’t do anything” I’d like to see that ticket number. Not rumour. Not player posts. But an actual ticket where our agent said such a thing, because that simply is not true. We will not get in the middle of gentleman’s agreements and pluck items off an account and return them, because it’s usually too difficult to establish all the details. However, we will will take action when we can establish that someone is a scammer.

Hi there Zinelkay – More than likely here the issue is very likely caused due to the fact that your onboard chipset does not meet the minimum requirements for Guild Wars 2. During the installation if your system is being detected as not powerful enough to launch the game then the installation will not finish.

This will also depend on your processor. If you have a graphics card that fails min specs, if your processor is pretty beefy you can probably get it to work although I’m unable to view your processor from the diagnostic report that you have provided.

Hi Wicked Rin – It’s possible that this may just be a corrupt installation, and so I would like for you to navigate to Documents\Guild Wars 2 and delete the local.dat file. Next, please try the following to repair your Guild Wars 2 installation:

1. Navigate to your Guild Wars 2 installation folder.
2. Right-click on “GW2.exe” and select “Create Shortcut.”
3. Rename this shortcut to “Guild Wars 2 Repair.”
4. Right-click on this shortcut and select “Properties.”
5. Edit the “Target” line to include -repair at the end.

Note: Please make sure -repair is outside of the quotes

Correctly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe” -repair
Incorrectly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe -repair”

6. Once completed, click “Ok” to save your changes.

If you get an error trying to save, your target line may not have the correct format. Please try step 5 again.

7. Double click “Guild Wars 2 Repair” to start the repair process.

We have censored two of your characters. We are being very kind about this, because you could be serving a two-week suspension with the other bad names.

Address this now by doing the following:

  • Go onto your account now.
  • Change the names of the two characters that have been censored immediately.
  • We will be monitoring this, and if you use anything offensive, you will serve a two-week suspension and the agent will rename your characters for you.

Hi there Lawkins – I’d like for you to try a Winsock reset as this has resolved the issue for quite a few players receiving this error message.

To do this please try the steps below:

1. Click the “Start” button to bring up the Start Menu.
2. Type in CMD into the “Search programs and files” field but do not hit enter. Doing this will change your start menu to show the program “cmd.exe.”
3. Right-click on “cmd.exe” and select “Run as Administrator.”
4. Type “netsh winsock show catalog >C:\LSP.txt” without the quotes. This will save a file to the root of your C drive called LSP.txt. You do not need to do anything with this file.
5. Once complete, type “netsh winsock reset” without the quotes. When the command is completed successfully, a confirmation appears, followed by a new command prompt line.

Once completed, please try connecting again.

And based on how many threads there are on the forums about this topic and how much they cost lodestones are clearly not balanced in this game.

We’ve noticed several markets that are clearly out of sync in terms of supply and demand. It isn’t interesting or fun to have a market flooded with items that contain very little value, so we’re making adjustments to the game every day. Players can expect to see these markets even out over time.

Just answer me this john, charged lodestones, does a.net consider this out of sync or not?

Because there have be many threads about this topic whether it stirs around manipulators, lack of supply or one lodestone being higher than the other.

I was making the point that you guys are working to balance the TP, on the topic of lodestones, I do not think they are, at all.

Your currently fixing precursors which are like 500 gold give or take,
And yet some people think that 430 gold for 100 charged lodestones is acceptable, what logic is that?!

I find this post disrespectful and rude. Until you learn to stop and think about what you’re asking, take in the information you have and make a logical question I’ll not be replying.

Now remember, you may not see a “scrub and clean” in a matter of hours. We may amass a number of bots and smoosh ‘em all in one fell swoop. But you can be sure we’re serious about this situation and your help is greatly appreciated.

If I may ask (and I apologize if this had been answered before in some other thread), why do you guys not “scrub and clean” as soon as a bot is identified, rather than “amass and smoosh in one fell swoop”. It’s not that I don’t appreciate your efforts at getting rid of bots in game, I do wholeheartedly.

Sometimes it’s more effective to “take names” and remove all at once, to not give warning to the bot companies that we’re observing their minions. I’ve removed bots, and I’ve seen the RMTers respond quickly and move to another area when they start seeing other botters getting banned.

Many RMTs have dozens of people working the game, and what I envision is someone calling out “There’s a GM in [Area A] so we’re going to move to [Area B] for now.” And suddenly, Area A is bot free and Area B is filled with those who jumped maps.

Well yes. If you look at GW2spidy and look at charged lodestones, you’ll see a decline in supply from 2 days ago (~600 to ~400). That will increase the price. Supply/demand.

I don’t know that theres a lack of charged lodestones in the market?!?!!?
And they are being manipulated, why do you think they jumped in price by 10% of their value.

Take closer look at this screenshot!!!

In the last 24 hours 2193 Lodestones have been traded. The amount of sell orders on the TP doesn’t necessarily represent supply.

Sharing accounts is a really bad idea. I’ve seen so many cases of this going bad, up to and including divorced couples fighting over an account, both being able to “prove” they are the “owners,” and our team being forced to close the account due to its disputed ownership. This has happened with friends, family members, and roommates, as well. I’ve seen accounts stripped by those same friends, family members, and roommates. Best items binned by a vengeful “Evil Little Brother.” And so forth.

The User Agreement prohibits account sharing except under specific circumstances. We can’t make it right if there are ugly repercussions, and as a player, I encourage you to not do it!

Robert, are you the head/one of the top people on the dungeon team (it’s possible I just made up “dungeon team”)? You are one of the most communicative members of the ArenaNet staff and you seem to post with solid and satisfying information (possibly a luxury when dealing with dungeon design as opposed to WvW culling or the ephemeral concept of class balance), it would be interesting to know if you are a minion or the guy holding the whip.

Even when I disagree with things the “dungeon team” does, at least I usually understand them from your posts.

After Fractals shipped and just before this last week, I have been the sole designer on the Live Team’s dungeon content. We have designers on the team for other content, but because I built a few of the dungeons we launched with, I am familiar with the current content. I am also a passionate dungeon player, so I feel like it’s been a good fit for me to update and upkeep the dungeons.
In a sense, I both hold the whip and and whipping myself in regards to dungeon content and getting things done (ouch). I have my leads that I answer to and get permissions from, but largely I am acting on what I feel is making the dungeons better. I am leading the charge on improving dungeon content, but I am not a manager or anything – I’m a “in the trenches” designer who just so happens to also post a lot in the dungeon forums to keep players up to date and keep an eye on things.

This last week I have been allotted a fellow designer (who sometimes posts here) by the name of William, who is going to help me with updating dungeon content and our plans going forward (we have big stuff coming down the pipeline for dungeons).

Some TA paths might benefit from additional WPs. Just saying.

I was hoping it would be a surprise, but sure. I rebuilt the “Defend Magg while he plants the bomb” event in CoF (path 2). It now involves a special flame legion assassin who must be killed before he reaches Magg, while dealing with never-ending spawns of (non veteran…) flame legion out to distract the players and add pressure.

So you’re just punishing us this patch, promising us compensation for the increased difficulty Soon?

You should hold with the respawn changes until you got the additional Waypoints ready…

Turning off res rushing was a programatic thing to do. As a designer, I spent the entirety of this last patch’s development tuning and ensuring encounters could be accomplished without res rushing.
When you see the patch notes, you’ll be more aware of how much work went into making the anti res-rushing fix not a punishment or an increase in difficuly, but rather a solution to a problem.

As the Dev who built it, I am fine with players doing Ferra’s path also doing the bonus encounter. It’s a tricky jump down, and an additional boss they have to face. It’s a bonus event, and it doesn’t cause any problems with Rhiannon’s path that I know of, so I’m fine with players going out of their way for that additional optional boss.

I do intend on putting more waypoints into dungeons, but due to the work required for this upcoming patch we didn’t get enough time to make it happen.
I’m not a fan of “punishment running” wherein your punishment for failing is having to run a long distance back to the fight. To discourage res rushing potential we went initially with fewer waypoints. Now that we are implementing a new tech, I would like to add more to reduce the time spent running back to an objective.
We have more info coming soon to how the system will be working.

You may want to file a ticket with Customer Support and ask them about it. If the mask was deleted somehow because of a human mistake, then do not build your hopes up about it though.

Raggi, you still have a few days before the free transfers end and, as Mag Li has pointed out, there are moments of the day in which you can effectively make the jump inside JQ. We know sometimes is exasperating but I am sure you will be able to transfer, in the end.
