One way of presenting a wealth chart that would be fascinating to me is gold (or other broader account value assessment) vs. hours played.

Not so much an “average gold per hour” thing, but looking at wealth vs. account age to see if there are any distinct bends in the curve. For example, I just finished my master crafter title this week and expect my ability to make gold to go up noticably now that I’m not hording materials for conversion to crafting XP.

I could probably spend a month coming up with meaningful combinations of wealth and income. Your suggestion would be at the top of the list, and the immediate question that comes up is: Do players who spend more time in game have more wealth because they play more, or are they more efficient because they’re really good at the game or both.

Just to keep you up to date, transferring gold is very seldom a problem, unless, upon human review, there are a lot of question marks related to your account.

Let me take this opportunity to mention that a number of people whose accounts were suspended believe they were terminated for transferring gold, but in fact they were locked down because they were hacked. I’ll give you an example: Fred transfers 25 gold to Mary. Later that night, Fred’s account is hacked and the thief — probably an RMT worker — starts transferring up a storm, moving gold, shuttling off items, the usual account thief bad stuff.

Fred wakes up to see his account is blocked and thinks, “It’s because I transferred gold to Mary!” But in fact, it’s because the account thief was detected misbehaving on the account and the account was suspended because of what the hacker did.

Once Fred writes Support, proves account ownership, and gets reinstated to his account, he will log in and most likely see exactly what happened: either he was erroneously suspended for a simple, legitimate gold transfer or — far more likely — his account was suspended for gold sales, RMT activity, etc., which the Support Team can address promptly. This means that what Fred would have seen changed from “Your account was terminated for gold sales” to “Your account was closed for an account issue” and that second in-game message usually points to the account owner being the victim of an account theft.

Don’t worry, we’ll help Fred (and nail the account hacker) and with the ART (Account Restoration Tool) chances are we can restore Fred’s account to a point preceding the account theft. Fred will be back in good shape after working with Support.

Sorry for a long post, but I wanted to get this out there because players should not be overly worried about doing a simple, fair, clear transfer of their own gold! And in the event we do make an error, we’ll get you back on the account.

We absolutely do care. I just sent over a few tickets for review, and your friend’s may have been one in that batch. I raised an eyebrow when I saw the history on the account. I can’t tell if some of the players are persistently cheating or if there’s something going on with the occasional (and yes, these are rare) account analysis.

But we are on the case and will review these with care. I am sorry that this happened!

Following up on a guild members ban. Hes been gone for awhile and has not received any news for over 7 days now. Just want to know if this could be resolved soon so he could come play with our guild again and Guild Wars 2.

Yet again, I am asking that players please coordinate, and not post multiple tickets about the same situation. If you’re discussing an issue in the game, in forums, whatever, please one of you say you will post in this thread and then do so. This was easy to spot, as the posts were adjacent to one another. But other situations have had four threads by four people scattered over a full page, and it’s really time consuming to keep opening the ticket, only to realize it’s the one you opened thrice before.

I will review this, but thanks for understanding about not putting up multiple posts about the same ticket (within the same timeframe).

When/if I release a Lorenz curve or something similar to show distribution of wealth you can be sure it will be accurate.
It will also only probably be gold only. Counting the value outside of gold would be interesting, but would be hard to do accurately. I would consider doing both, but would definitely start with gold.
I really wanted to get a new blog post out for the first quarter of the game’s release, but I haven’t had the time, and issues in the game have to come first. It’s on my list of things to publish though.

As Wesley has already pointed out, you can always check our official message about the infraction system, posted by Mark a while ago. As it is explicitly stated there, we rather prefer not to give too much information about the system as a whole as this could be misused by some users and this would not be overall fair, would it.

If you receive an infraction that does not carry a point, then consider it always as a friendly but firm reminder that a post of yours has gone against our Code of Conduct of the forums in one way or another. It´s quite simple actually. We do not ban people from the forums for first offences, that would not make any sense and would also not be fair. We rather prefer to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to contribute to these boards in a constructive and respectful way.

Hope this explains a little bit better our stance on this.
And now I proceed to close the thread.

These teleporting hackers are considerably harder to report than the normal ones but you can still send screenshots and your reports via the ticketing system to Customer Support, where they will be looked into. Remember that even if you think that they seem to be always there, the team is taking these fellows very seriously and will keep on fighting them.

Waypoints are currently the most powerful upgrade in the game but there are a few issues.

They are only inactive when the defense quest is active, are you guys planning on disabling them slightly longer than the defense quest to allow attackers to keep the defenders from spawning there just as the defense quest lapses?

For example under the current system I can count down on voip the defense quest and spawn in everyone right as it hits zero and before attackers can reflag the keep.

This is definitely a bug. I’ll see about leaving the rally points disabled for a few extra seconds after the event has completed. That way it just stays disabled if the event starts back up.

Just to calm nerves I wanted to bring this up again.
This is something that we would like to adjust, but doing so could remove one of the larger advantages of having the waypoint upgrade. With my mentioned adjustment it would also mean that one player would be able to lock down a location indefinitely. Changes to how this system works will need to be thoroughly designed and tested and as such will require time. I would not expect to see changes to how this works soon.

It’s one of those human things to do something with the path of least resistance and danger, especially when there is a reward at the end. I could make enemies never drop their aggro on players and force them to fight every single mob, but I don’t see that as a viable solution right now.
I think the better solution is to look at why people are skipping things, and approach from a different angle. Trash mobs have too much HP, and can’t be counted on for lucrative drops from a Risk/Time vs Reward, so people interested in making money (most groups) aren’t incentivized to do it, whereas the end chest/boss are more guaranteed and accountable returns on time and risk. I also think there is something to be said about interesting trash mob mechanics making them more enjoyable of a fight.
I can’t make the rewards from trash mobs so lucrative though that people just farm the first couple trash mobs/boss in a dungeon and then rinse/repeat. We encountered this when people just farmed the first boss in an instance and then restarted it (earlier around launch time), and we had to adjust the content as a result. It’s a fine line you have to walk to encourage players to get to the end, but make the process of getting there rewarding enough as well.

I don’t imagine this next update will resolve all the skipping behavior. The path of least resistance is engrained in people, and even if I do everything I could to incentivize people, there will still be those who skip stuff. I have been fixing exploits that will require players to complete more of the events in dungeons, but I am sure people will still skip what they can to get to their end goal.

For now I would encourage those not looking to skip to find some folks who don’t like skipping and make a guild with them… or maybe look for guilds that are dedicated to not skipping, and tag along with them. I’m in a couple of them (anonymously), and it really is an effective solution to playing the game the way you want to play it: Find other people with similar interests and band together with them.

Oracle Fefe, this kind of refund is something you should check with the shop where you purchased it and not with us since the box is unopened and that key does not belong to anyone, is not used yet and therefore, technically it is nothing our Customer Support can take care about as there is no client using that key. I am sure the shop will allow you a total refund if you arrive there with the box and the receipt.

This project was delayed in favor of having the specific folks required to build it skill-set wise working on solidifying the core of the game. You’ll hear more about our ecosystem in the future, but we’re not actively working on this project, in favor of making sure the core game itself is as fun and rewarding as possible.

Edited to add: We’ll discuss what sort of projects we’re doing instead in more detail in the blog post later this week, and even in more detail as the Jan/Feb/March releases get closer.

Please do not resubmit bugs if you have already posted about them in a previous art thread as we will have already seen them and added them to our bug database. Thank you!

Please post them in this thread if you come across any sort of bug that fits in the following categories:

- Stuck in the terrain or a prop
- Textural/graphical issues with the environment or world props
- Terrain or world props disappearing/flickering
- Anything else that you feel might be an art bug

General Guidelines:
- Take a screenshot with your mouse hovering over the minimap while it’s zoomed all the way in so we can see the sector name. Make sure your screenshot has a clear view of the issue too!
- If you got stuck, please describe to us what you were doing before hand, along with a screenshot (this includes listing any skill you may have used upon being pushed inside the terrain).
- If you can, open up the screenshot in a picture editor (like MS Paint) and circle or point to the issue.

You guys rock! Many of these areas are under our beady eye right now, but it’s super helpful of you to give us the details that you notice.

Now remember, you may not see a “scrub and clean” in a matter of hours. We may amass a number of bots and smoosh ‘em all in one fell swoop. But you can be sure we’re serious about this situation and your help is greatly appreciated.

And I have to remind: The very best way to report bots is to submit an individual report via the in-game system. This is because those reports give us ever so much info and they help us nail… err… attend to them very quickly. * ahem *

I have the answers to a few of these questions as well!

Are projectile destroying skills actually intended to destroy siege projectiles? Or is this a case of creative use of game mechanics you guys didn’t quite expect.

Also what has been the most surprising placement you’ve seen for a treb that actually worked?

This is intended! We actually had issues in early testing because players were able to reflect trebuchet shots. The oddest place i’ve seen siege is probably on top of the ruins by the underground entrance to blue’s keep.

Maybe a dev could answer this… I always wondered if there are plans for WvW ever getting some big events like in PVE. Dragon-sized stuff like one taking over Stonemist… could that ever happen?

There are no plans currently. However, this is something that is not off the table for the future and is often day dreamed about. I’m sure everyone would love to see a large size event start and destroy something. as long as they didn’t own it.
The question we ask when building content is “can this be fun for all three teams involved?” This question is a large part of the design process, and often leads to changes or cancellation of content.

Has there ever been an official reason given for why enemies appear as ‘Server-name Invader’? Does this reflect a deliberate gameplay design decision, or a technical constraint?

Some of the reasons behind enemies appearing as ‘Server-name Invader’ where to avoid harassment issues, let other servers identify what server you are from, and to help establish server rivalry. The way your server name reads is something we would love to adjust, and I am hopeful that we will!

- How many players can one map contain?

As many as we can fit without causing too much stress on the servers. We can’t be more specific than that, but I can assure everyone that the cap is definitely split equally between all three worlds.

in regards to server limitations does this apply to ranger pets?
do they count as 1 towards the limit?

Nope our map limits only take into account actual players. That said, when we were picking population limits we took into account the fact that some players would have pets/minions/etc.

Any chance we might get a chance to the slightly awkward badges system we have right now? Moving the bags to the feet of the player is nice and all, but it doesn’t help much in a thick battle, and I’m sure most of the players actively engaged in wvw have had their share of lost bags. AFAIK, there once was an answer among the lines of “we don’t have the tech for that now”, but I can’t really see how this should prove to be unsolvable…

As a suggestion: Couldn’t we just get rewards based on a slightly modified monthly tracker? You know, the one that says “players killed in wvw” – just add an npc that hands out as many bags as the counter says and resets it back to zero.

In the beginning players killed NPCs and found loot on the NPC corpses. That setup is nice because it makes sense (gruesome sense, but still sense). If you kill a dude where is his stuff? In his pockets of course (see also: The Hobbit). If the corpse decayed then a bag was left behind so players would have one last chance to pick it up (it doesn’t hurt that rendering a bag is cheaper than rendering a high-poly character model.

Then WvW was born and players started killing players. At first we left the loot on the corpses as before but then a thousand player voices rang out and said “WTF man? I can’t jump down off this wall to get my loot because there’s like a hojillion enemy guys down there waiting to plant me like a tulip bulb!” or “WTF man? I can’t get up on top of that wall to get my loot because the whole point of a castle is that people can’t do that stuff!” We heard those pleas and, after some internal arguments (er, design discussions) we decided that realism could go suck it because getting loot is awesome.

So why did we put the bags at your feet rather than just dumping the items into your inventory? Part of the answer is that it was the smallest possible change that could work (programmers like stuff like that). We already had the bag spawning system so we could just reuse it. Another part of the answer is that picking up loot can be a bit like unwrapping a present and we didn’t want to ruin the unwrapping for everybody. Finally, if we just start putting loot into player inventory then we need to deal with a bunch of edge cases and at the time we had more pressing issues to work on. For example, when your inventory fills up items you receive go into inventory overflow and your character becomes encumbered. That makes you move really slowly and that didn’t seem like a nice thing to do to people in the middle of a fight. There were some others that I don’t recall off the top of my head, but suffice it to say there were some thorny design questions about the best way to handle it.

We have tossed around some ideas for ways to improve the system but it’s relatively low priority so nobody is actively working on it right now.

Yep, that’s named after Mike! During some of our betas we had a variety of servers named after team members (mine was “Loew’s Point”) but Ferguson’s Crossing is the only of them that stuck.

Are projectile destroying skills actually intended to destroy siege projectiles? Or is this a case of creative use of game mechanics you guys didn’t quite expect.

Also what has been the most surprising placement you’ve seen for a treb that actually worked?

I don’t know the answer to the siege projectile question (someone in design surely does though) so I’m going to skip that one.

As for the most surprising siege placement, for me that has to be the point blank trebuchet. I don’t know why it didn’t occur to me that people might do that, but I honestly wasn’t expecting it.

You asked if Anet would give any direct answers. I posted they did. I misread your original post, TRUE, answers. I play a ton of WvW3 and have plenty of experience the awkwardness of seige despawn rates. That was the point of my post. That is the answer. I dnt think they will spend anymore time on it.

As Mike said, we’re aware that there’s an issue and we’re looking into it but we don’t have a solid repro in our test/dev environment which makes it much more difficult to debug. That said, we do have some ideas about how we might proceed so we at least have some ideas to try out and test. One thing I’d like to see, for example, is a visible indicator of how much time is left before the siege despawns. That will make it easier for everyone to know the state of the siege and it should help us eliminate some false positives from the bug reports (siege got destroyed/used when the reporting playing wasn’t looking, etc.) which should, in turn, help us hone in on the specific bug that’s happening. And while we’re in there adding a timer we’ll also spend some time robustifying (it’s a word!) the system. There’s no timeline on these changes yet but we are working on it.

Good afternoon! It’s a lovely day here in Seattle, but a bit cold, so I figure this is a good time to answer some questions

I was going to wait to ask this until after the Feb update. However I was wondering if there will be any changes going into forced respawn after being stomped for…30 seconds (something like that)

We haven’t settled all the details yet but we’re working on a forced respawn timer. It’s a good thing that your allies can revive you but I think the game will be better off without corpse scouts, etc.

Account bound blueprints

We tried changing blueprints to being account bound and it completely broke the pack up skill when holding the blueprint so we can’t do that either unfortunately.

I’m hoping that someday may find some programmer magic that can solve this so we can at least get rid of them being soulbound, but nobody is looking at it currently.

Badge usefulness, gear variety and earning gold in wvw compared to pve

We are working on a number of different updates that should address these issues over the next couple of months.

We are still working out all the details, but the team has been working on some pretty exciting stuff that should address many of the very valid points you folks brought up. I can’t say much more than that quite yet, but we’re aware of it and we’re working on it.

Any changes or additional things to commander icon?

We’ve talked about a number of improvements we’d like to make to the commander system as a whole, but it’s not on anyone’s schedule right now.

Just a quick update on where the whole scavenger hunt system stands since I know that’s a topic many of you have brought up recently. We’re not currently actively working on building any sort of legendary precursor scavenger hunt, this is something we want to do in the future and we’re in the midst of designing how this would function, but no one is actively building this feature and you should not expect in the Jan/Feb/March releases at this point.

To clarify since I think these two statements could be confusing without context, Linsey is indeed working on designing the system by which we’d add precursor scavenger hunts to the game. We are not actively implementing that design yet, it hasn’t been finalized, and building it that will involve a much larger team.

No conflicting statements here, as a game designer when they are working on something, usually that means they are designing it, as that is their job.

I’ve sent a private message to one of Anet guys yesterday and he didn’t reply so i don’t know if they have been removed. There are 3 of them basically all the time killing karkas at the south of the map.

PMing a staff member isn’t going to help. If they’re in the game, they’re either working on something, in which can they don’t have time to deal with the message, or they’re playing, in which case they would like to do that without dealing with work issues.

So please use the in-game report function and this thread, and we’ll get this taken care of! Thanks for understanding.
