When you place a buy order, you are stating that you are willing to pay X money for Y item(s). The buy order is a contract of demand for that item.

Academically; from your perspective it shouldn’t be relative, you stated you were willing to pay X for Y and were successful. There is no such thing as false demand, because at any point while those orders exist they can be filled.

I don’t believe spark aggro behavior is all that needs to be fixed, though. Often multiple sparks appear in one circle and not all the circles that are occupied have sparks in them — this confuses groups where not everyone is aware which spots have been taken. And I don’t think this was intended.

I’m looking into this as well.

It’s definitely a bug.

We found a similar issue in these keeps right after ship and fixed that particular bug, but this post actually helped us find a different bug that could also lead to this behavior, so thank you!

We already have a fix for this that we will be testing internally, once that fix is live we will hopefully never see this issue again.

It’s possible it could be either a ports or a router issue. You can check this by running a port check by following the steps below:

To check this, please try the following:

1. Navigate to your Guild Wars 2 folder.
2. Right-click on “Gw2.exe” and select “Create Shortcut.”
3. Right-click on “Gw2.exe – Shortcut” and select “Rename.”
4. Rename this file to “Guild Wars 2 Diagnostic.”
5. Right-click on “Guild Wars 2 Diagnostic” and select “Properties.”
6. Locate the “Target” line and add the following to the end " -diag"
Your target line should look like this: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe” -diag
7. Click OK to save your changes.
8. Open “Guild Wars 2 Diagnostic” to start the test.

Once it’s complete you should be given the option to view the results and save the report to your desktop.

My guess is that it would probably be very similar to real world economics, where 1% of the people own 99% of the wealth.

If they start posting confirmations on this, we’ll end up with an “occupy wall street” movement in game. Players flooding the trading post in protest. Players refusing to buy/sell materials until changes are made to the game. Huge market crashes as the wealthy players try to offload everything they own in response. Chaos.

While there will be some superficial similarities, I seriously doubt the wealth inequality in game will mirror real world inequality as there are a number of factors that drive inequality in real economies that don’t exist in-game

For example, in the real world, having wealth enables you to create/find rent-seeking (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rent_seeking) opportunities that don’t exist in this virtual economy. As a result, those who have already wealth in this game are generally not able to use that wealth to prevent others from gaining wealth.

You are correct. There are several good reasons why wealth distributions in game don’t mimic the US Economy.
Another reason is that the growth of wealth is exponential in many developed economies, where it’s closer to logarithmic in GW2.

The entire set of reasons would be a very interesting discussion…Well for me at least

I would like you to try a command to see if this allows you to connect. To do this:

1. Navigate to your Guild Wars 2 installation folder.

2. Right-click on “GW2.exe” and select “Create Shortcut.”

3. Rename this shortcut to “Guild Wars 2 Port Test.”

4. Right-click on this shortcut and select “Properties.”

5. Edit the “Target” line to include /clientport 80 at the end.

Note: Please make sure /clientport 80 is outside of the quotes

Correctly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe” /clientport 80
Incorrectly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe /clientport 80”

6. Once completed, click “Ok” to save your changes.

If you get an error trying to save, your target line may not have the correct format. Please try step 5 again.

7. Double click “Guild Wars 2 Port Test” and try connecting again.

Hey all, hope you guys had a great break!

There are so many things to talk about, so instead of quoting individual people, I’ll just make a post outlining things that people have mentioned.

New features: As I said in the Guru state of the game, January won’t see any big updates. Everyone is getting back from vacation, so it’s a small patch. We’ll see bigger updates in later patches, etc.

I plan to write out a full blog for these features as they’re closer to being ready. But I can give a few details now:

  • Custom Arenas. This is still our top priority for the time being, as it allows the playerbase to do so many things. You guys can set maps up in the ways that you want, and it you can set up your own servers to allow you to practice with your friends. It also allows custom tournaments, etc. It just gives you guys a lot of control over the game, so we’re pushing hard on it.
  • Ratings/matchmaking/leaderboards. These are being worked on. I’ll give more details on this later, but quickly: We will be using our MM (matchmaking) system to match teams up against one another. Each player has their own rating, and these ratings are used when 2 teams are fighting one another. MM obviously won’t be used in public matches (because people are jumping in/out all the time), and instead will be used in tournament formats. We will be using the MM system in the background as you play, and then we will be showing player ranks via our official leaderboards. These leaderboards will show things like player ranks, wins, losses, qualyfing points, etc.
  • New player experience/teaching the game better. We want players of all experience levels to enjoy the game, not just the hardcore. We’ll talk more about this stuff later, but we want to make sure all players enjoy the game. Custom Arenas will help here as well, because players can find arenas where they feel comfortable, and play the game with the same players every day while they learn the game, etc.
  • 1 team vs. 1 team. Like with other things, I was going to do a more robust blog on this later, but we are doing this. We will be testing out Temple of the Silent Storm for tournament rotation play by doing a 1 team vs. 1 team setup (as opposed to the 8 team setup we use in tournaments). This will mean only two teams play, one wins, one loses. It will cost less to enter these 1on1 matchups than tournaments, but rewards will also be scaled down. You won’t have to go multiple rounds, and once a match is over, both teams can jump right back into the pool. So overall, compared to tournaments, it will have less rewards, but it’s quicker to play and easier to get into/out of. We’ll be testing this system in the near future to see how it works, and if feedback is positive, we may look at trying to incorporate the 1on1 format into PvP. We know that free tournaments are going almost all the time, but we recognize that paid tournaments are having some issues right now, so have been listening to you and have made plans to improve the experience. You guys have made some great suggestions, and a lot of your ideas are in alignment with the things propounded in our internal meetings. So thank you for all your passion and suggestions!

In my experience running dungeons with low level characters, it’s less about damage numbers and more about knowledge and utility of the character. At level 30 you have fewer unlocked traits, fewer utility skills (potentially), and you don’t have the experience of build tweaking/optimization that you get with a level 80 character whose been around the block a few times.
Gear is a factor, but I’m always an advocate of utility over brute force.

I think each player needs to discuss their individual situation with the Support Team. Most of these restrictions are measures to prevent fraud. That’s not to say YOU are trying to act in a fraudulent manner, but something — perhaps the details on your credit card — is flagging the card and therefore requiring the involvement of the team to help process the purchase(s). They’ll be happy to discuss this with you via a ticket, since each case can have different details.

I want to eventually play this game with my fiance and i saw the deal going on for the free upgrade to digital version going on today so I thought I would just buy ahead of time but after i purchased it I realized it was not 12AM pacific time but 12PM…. I know it was my mistake but I wanted to know if I could either some how get the free version still or just cancel it until another offer like this comes around?

There isn’t a free version of Guild Wars 2 available. The upgrade offer did expire, but it wasn’t offering a free copy, just a discount that meant the upgraded version cost the same as the standard edition. I wanted to be clear on that in case you were confused.

130104-002929 is the second ticket which is still awaiting a response entered on 1/4/12

Hello Gaile,

Allow me to surprise you then regarding suspension tickets taking longer then 72 hrs. When I was suspended I immidiatly put a ticket it. So that was all good, now it was a matter of waiting patiently, or so I thought. I got a reply back 24 hrs later saying the ticket was esculated. Since then I have heard nothing back, my account is now playable because the 72 hrs is up and it’s been a week since, thats 7 days and still no answer. I don’t need an answer since I can play now but still I think an investigation is needed with accounts to find out why they are taking so long. My ticket number is 130101-000832

Ok, so you used a character name with a very crude reference to body parts. In viewing the ticket, I see your appeal was not responded to promptly and you should anticipate a response soon. However, we will not remove the mark on your account, and you will not be allowed to keep that character’s name.

Alright, Update on Guru’s case, We went back through his credit card purchases and found that for whatever reason, his GW2 Purchase was still pending. It did charge his Card however.

Charges that are pending are "money set aside’ but are not charged to the card. Only a charge is a charge. You didn’t note the ticket number, but if this is still a question and if I have not address it in later posts, please be sure to include the ticket number in each post.

You’re a bit ahead of yourself, there’s a specific step to climb to the top of the ark, which you’re not on. (So no copter.) Did you place the charges on the top of the ship? During the “escape” step there’s a tripwire that fires when you cross from the lower deck (where the charges are handed out) to the upper deck. THEN it changes to “Move to the highest point on the ark” which is when you need to climb to the point indicated.
