Lionguard Lyns will be returning in the end of January build without the Black Lion Keys in her inventory. She will then remain up for everyone to liquidate their Commendations and will likely be leaving entirely after about a month.
My ticket is 130113-001821 and yes this is my account and yes this my my CC i want this fixed now .
How dare you do this to me , i will NOT fill out any of the stuff you want me to on that, restore my CC so i can buy the stuff i want .
Just because someone thought this was a good idea i want this fixed i have spend hundreds on this game money is not a problem with me.
But doing this to me its like attacking my credit score which to me is very very important i want this fixed and again i will NOT fill out the information they sent me i feel i dont have ,you guys screwed this up and can fix it yourself and it had better be fast.
I really like this game but will leave over this and never play another one of you games again.
I hope by this post you can tell i am mad !!!!
An agent responded today and I think you’ll be reassured by the message that he sent. This absolutely will not affect your credit score! There is an internal system that was developed to provide a level of protection for accounts that make significant purchases. (One protection is against someone making unauthorized purchases, like a child using his/her parent’s credit card and running up a bunch of purchases.)
I want to say that — as a player and a consumer — I totally understand your confusion about this. I am going to discuss the process with some team leads to learn whether there’s a simpler way to allow you to move forward with your desired purchases in a way that still prevents mis-uses on other accounts. But the process that the agent described seems sort of painless to me, and it’ll get you where you want to be, albeit with you taking a bit of extra time to manually input the CC number.
I just had to respond because you were worried about things that would concern me, too, and I sure wanted you to know all was well from a consumer/credit rating standpoint. The limits are internal and are not at all related to you, your card, your rating, anything like that. And I also wanted to thank you for your support of the game!

Hi Bobby – Do you happen to know where your friend has installed the client to? Generally the client will re-download itself if it’s been saved to a temporary location such as the “Downloads” folder.
Hi there xMystic
I’m sorry to hear you’ve been experiencing this issue after only three days of playing. The Fatal Disk Error 23 is a Windows error code which does indicate an issue with your hard drive or that something has caused a file to be the wrong size and corrupted the installation. The first thing we want to rule out are issues on your drive.
Please do the following first to check and repair your drive:
1. Open Computer by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Computer.
2. Right-click the hard disk drive that you want to check, and then click Properties.
3. Click the Tools tab, and then, under Error-checking, click Check Now. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
4. To check for both file errors and physical errors, select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.
5. Click Start.
Depending upon the size of your hard disk, this may take several minutes. For best results, don’t use your computer for any other tasks while it’s checking for errors.
Once that is complete, Please navigate to your Documents > Guild Wars 2 folder and in there you should see a file called Local.dat. Delete this file.
Next:
1. Navigate to your Guild Wars 2 installation folder.
2. Right-click on “GW2.exe” and select “Create Shortcut.”
3. Rename this shortcut to “Guild Wars 2 Repair.”
4. Right-click on this shortcut and select “Properties.”
5. Edit the “Target” line to include -repair at the end.
Note: Please make sure -repair is outside of the quotes
Correctly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe” -repair
Incorrectly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe -repair”
6. Once completed, click “Ok” to save your changes.
If you get an error trying to save, your target line may not have the correct format. Please try step 5 again.
7. Double click “Guild Wars 2 Repair” to start the repair process.
Hope this helps!
Hi Wolfey To begin, Guild Wars 2 runs on it’s own client. It was never intended to be run with the NCSOFT Launcher, though NCSOFT are the publishers for Guild Wars 2.
Second, could you please provide a crash report that shows exactly what Fatal Errors you’re seeing? Generally Fatal Disk Errors indicate an issue with your hard drive. You can locate this file by navigating to Documents\Guild Wars 2 and locating the ArenaNet.log file.
Hi dannymichael – Without any diagnostic information or provided system specs it is difficult to diagnose exactly why you’re having FPS issues. Additionally, switching to a different server will have no affect on your FPS.
“130105-000178 Resolved” – False
This account has not been “Resolved”. This is my husbands account. Who did you talk to because he has not gotten any emails what so ever. Is this tread fake to keep the cries of bad support down? It has been 11 days and we have not gotten an answer from anyone. If you are talking to someone the account has been compromised and you are talking to someone who stole the account.
This response was sent to your husband on January 5th:
Hello,
Thank you for getting back to us.
I have reset the Guild Wars 2 account password. Please use the following information to log in:
Guild Wars 2 Login Name: {REMOVED}
Password: {REMOVED}
To update your Guild Wars 2 password to something new, login using your current information at https://account.guildwars2.com/ and follow the steps below:
1. Click on the “Edit Profile” link on the left hand side of the page.
2. Under “Change Password,” enter the current password, as well as a new password in the New Password and Confirm Password fields.
3. Click “Save Changes” to complete the password change.
Please let me know if you have any other issues or questions!
Please ask your husband to check his Spam and Deleted email folders, because this was sent out on that date. One concern: Could his email have been compromised? Suggestion: If he does not find this information, or feels that his email account may be in jeopardy, please open a new ticket with a different or preferably new, secure email account and apprise the Support Team about that concern. If email security is fine, he can update the ticket through the support interface.
And no, this forum thread is not fake. I’m pretty sure I prove that every day.

I just finished getting the vista near Drowned Brine, Malchor’s Leap (southwest corner). I decided to try and swim around to the shore, and in doing so hit an invisible wall. I decided to turn around, instead of porting far away, and was then mass spammed by “you’ve hit a strong current and will be pushed back if you continue further.” I tried retracing my steps exactly, but to no avail, so I thought maybe if I relog the possible glitch will fix itself? Upon doing so I was teleported to the entrance of the zone from where it connected to the zone Straights of Devistation (kick@$$ name btw devs!)
“You’ve hit a strong current and will be pushed back if you continue further” is displayed if you try to swim out of the map boundary. When you exited, you were out of bounds, so on relogging, it put you back at the default map start point.
The security of your account, and our ability to help you prevent an account compromise, are completely unrelated to this PM spam. An analogy might be: Just because someone can randomly dial your phone to make a sales call doesn’t mean they can get into your locked house.
We’re aware of this issue and we regret that it is happening. We are closing more than a dozen forum and game accounts a day related to this situation. These RMT/gold sellers are abusing the system and breaking every rule about Guild Wars 2 out there: UA, Forum CoC, RoC, Copyright… you name it.
We’re looking at adding better systems to prevent this problems. But in the short term, if you simply open the PM and hit the flag, saying “RMT spam” or “gold seller” or something of that sort, our moderators will take care of the problem person.

I just completed my January monthly so if the January update includes the achievement changes, does it mean I will lose out on the 10 crowns, or will I be retro actively compensated at least just for this month?
The January monthly achievement, regardless of when you complete it will not reward the new crown currency.
This also assumes that all cash values are literal and not fiat money. It only cost $1 for a bunch of paper, but dollar bills are worth more.
I can’t answer questions about my specific feelings about individual item prices here.
Colin – got any examples of what the new variable dailies might be? Is there going to be much of a time gap between the variable versions and the subsetting (eg 4/6)? Feels like you’re going to push players into daily achievements in parts of the game they don’t necessarily like if there’s much of a time gap between the two.
In going back to that whole “let people play the way they want to play” concept:
We’re going to hold off on adding most of the daily achievements that send you to specific parts of the game until we’ve added the ability to select from a list (like 4/6.) The initial version you’ll see with rotating daily achievements won’t feature too many new achievement options, since we don’t want to do more specific type achievements without giving you the choice to pick from a list of stuff you’re more excited about.
As someone who adored that instance of the economy being rebalanced, (I could finally sell Iron Ore to other players w/o losing money!) I keep hoping you guys will do stuff like that again. It’s a personal thing, but I hate selling crafting supplies to vendors because I’d be selling at a loss on the TP, when I know that people could be using the mats that I’m essentially destroying. Are there any plans to do more limited-time mystic forge recipes like that again, or was that a one-off experiment?
Never say never
Hi WvW players,
As we’ve previously said, the AOE target limit on player skills is currently set to 5. That means that any given player skill will hit at most 5 players regardless of how many players are in the area of the skill. Unfortunately I think this has led to some confusion about siege weapons which are not, in fact, bound by that same limit.
So, in an effort to eliminate all confusion about AOE target limits for siege here is a list of the individual target limits for all siege weapons in WvW:
Arrow Cart: 50
Ballista: 10
Cannon: 50
Catapult: 50
Ram: 50
Mortar: 50
Oil: 50
Golem: 10
Trebuchet: 50
Please note that these are currently superior siege has the same target limits as regular siege.
Happy hunting!

The only infinitely repeatable achievement I can think of is Agent of Entropy that you get for salvaging stuff. Playing normally (ie. never going out of my way to salvage stuff), I’ve gotten 140 points out of 4224 total points. I salvage everything that vendors for less than 90c.
If all I lose is those 140 points, I’d be okay with it. However, I’m not sure that I’d qualify as someone who went crazy. It’s 2 points per 200 salvages. So, I’m at about 14,000 items salvaged.
Also, based on the screenshot and the value of dailies (9) and monthlies (35), it looks like you can get a nice amount of stuff each month with the 305 points you’d get for completing 30 dailies and the monthly.
Really looking forward to this.
Just want to quickly point out to get out ahead of it since those numbers are wildly off. You receive 1 crown per daily, and 10 per monthly. (We’re also still tweaking the costs of the items shown in the screen shot, and will continue to adjust them until until the system is released.)
Will we still get the mystic coins along with these new crowns? And will the current karma rewards be effected?
BTW I am loving the direction you are taking in rewarding open world exploration!.
You will still receive all the same rewards you currently get for your daily and monthly achievements, this will be an additional reward on top of it to make it more rewarding.
Remember the Halloween jumping puzzle? I hope I don’t end up having to do it again.
You won’t lose any achievement progress and will get full credit for all that kind of thing, absolutely. The only stuff that might need to be capped are achievements that extend infinitely that a handful of people have taken to extreme levels, we’ll discuss other options as well but I think if an effort to be transparent, it’s better to get out ahead of expectations so no one is surprised.
Colin, will we still be rewarded for the things like map completetion? I am wondering if I should wait to level the last 3 of my alts and get 100% until after? Will that sort of thing be retroactive also?
You will be yes, no reason to change your play habits in any way when it comes to anything other than if you’re collecting achievements points by progressing massively down an infinitely repeatable achievement. Map complete away!
We haven’t finalized a solution for those in that specific category, I just want to get out ahead and warn this probably isn’t the best use of your time if you were considering it.
The initial version will only be for daily/monthly achievements (this will not be retroactively rewarded.) Later you’ll see a system in place that rewards more expanded achievements points which will retroactively reward all achievements already earned, yes.
However, there are some achievements which are infinitely repeatable currently. It is highly likely so this new system isn’t broken we’ll need to cap those and people who have made insane progress down one of those lines will lose some of their progress to get back to the cap. I wouldn’t recommend anyone go bonkers trying to progress an infinitely repeatable achievement category in anticipation of the release of this system, as you will likely lose some points/progress if you take it to an extreme number.
We’re still working out the details on the system, so that’s about as far into detail as I can go currently.
This guy who posted his screenshoot with 10k achievement points earned by salvaging… he won’t be very happy xD
Yeah we’ll need to figure out something for folks who do fall into that category, I just want to make sure to get out ahead of expectations so people don’t all feel they should now go rush off and have to do this (or other infinitely repeatable achievements.) We don’t want people to feel they need to play the game that way and have it be the best way to be rewarded.
Remember the Halloween jumping puzzle? I hope I don’t end up having to do it again.

Now that you’re on your lunchbreak, question!
Is there anything surprising (economically) that has caught you off guard in regards to the game? Perhaps price manipulation?
When I released the blog post about pulling some of the surplus items like butter and soft wood logs out of the market with the Mystic Chest. How fast that took effect and burned those items really surprised me. 7 Million Items in 2 hours, never seen anything like it. It was really cool.

I have been discussing these reports (and those that come in via tickets) to try to determine if we have some sort of issue. A lot of times, folks are trying to log in using their display name instead of their (email) log-in name. Other times, they’re simply typing the wrong information, or making a consistent typo. But we don’t want to mark these as “user error” unless we know there isn’t an issue.
Can you folks please update to say what happened with your situation? Were you able to log in? What solved the problem?
Thank you!

Just tossing my 2c on why Smith is griefing us all and denying us data.
He has very explicitly avoided the question on purpose, and has made a point of it. It is clear he is trying to convey that he can not, or does not want to, disclose any information. But, I am sure he is physically able to disclose some information – heck, I’m pretty sure he has like 10 charts of wealth distribution glued on all sides of his screen at work. So he does not want to, or someone forbids him to.
I can very well see the reason: for one person on the forums that can actually gain insight from the charts and be reasonable, there are twenty hate monkeys who will jump on the newly acquired data to “prove” that Anet fails @economy, is an evil corporation trying to pass subliminal messages about buying gems, is behind Guantanamo Bay and the Cold War, etc. Sometimes it’s better to leave those people without tools – I certainly would handle stuff this way if I were at Anet. I think John Smith is trying to tell us this with his behavior.
Presenting data for release is a more serious undertaking than you realize. Think of how many languages it has to be presented in, and the graphics have to be universally understandable, and for my purposes that means custom design, timing, approval. I’ve said I haven’t had time to prepare the information for a blog, though I would like to.
Seriously, enough with the conspiracies, I’m not saying anything, except exactly what I’m saying.

Locking this thread since there are a few others revolving around it, and the question was answered. Thanks Morpurgo.
Just for the record, standing in a place where you can hurt the boss but the boss can’t hurt you back / can’t fight back is considered an exploit, and we are working on a solution for that problem. As is exploiting terrain like teleporting through walls/closed doors, and getting under/above the map to skip content and get to a place where you can take advantage of bugs or events not requiring previous completion in the order of events (skipping directly to Giganticus lupicus from the start of the arah explore chain for instance).
These are things we patch and fix as we discover them and figure out solutions for. As I have said before, if you see something say something by emailing this alias: Exploits@arena.net
Thanks for letting us know.. I was going to build an off-hand Night sigil weapon for adding some damage when ranging, but I see it will be useless in FotM.
Oh hey, this thread.
UPDATE: I added day for day fractals, and night for night fractals. The time will not change when you are in a fractal, but certain fractals will be day time or night time.
EDIT
This will happen in the January Content Patch.

Hello,
Thank you for creating this thread. We made it a sticky, so that everyone can have a clear overview of it.
Please, remember to stay constructive and to respect the rules described in our code of conduct if you want to express your opinion
Thanks a lot for your contributions, we really appreciate them!
I do wonder why this thread has been allowed to stay open when the T&Cs state that the words Anet/Devs/Moderators cannot be used in the title for any topic?
This is the case for threads where users use staff/ developer call-outs as a tool to gather attention and try to get their issues solved faster – e.g. “Fix this, ArenaNet!”
So it’s actually not a problem here.
Greetings

We are aware that there has been a bit of PM spam over the last few days and are dealing with it appropriately.
If you have reported any of the PM’s,
- Firstly thank you for bringing them to our attention, it helps

- Please only report the PM once, multiple reports don’t get things dealt with faster they just add to the amount of time it takes to clean them up
- Feel free to delete any spam PM’s (that are dated prior to the 15th Jan) that you have received, as most (if not all) of the users that are responsible are now banned!

The Java vulnerability is certainly something worth being aware of, and it’s definitely true that everyone should take precautions against such system-wide security issues.
However, I just wanted to point out that this has no direct relation to GW2. No part of our game or web services is based on Java (not to be confused with JavaScript – Java is to JavaScript as car is to carpet). Any malicious persons or programs which exploit the Java vulnerability are doing so independently of GW2’s technology.
anonymouse is, for better or worse, completely correct; GW2 account compromises are – with only rare exceptions – generally due to poor security practices on the part of the account owners. To be fair, being truly secure (versus just feeling secure) in the modern online universe is extraordinarily difficult :-)
