Keep giving feedbacks. The demo weekend is specifically for this. Some specs/skills are underpowered, while some overpowered. At least we got to test and give our feedback now, rather than got surprised if the numbers stay the same at live.
What build do you run currently for your GvG Reaper? Traits, weapons, runes?
I’m wondering if power scourge will work. Is it just me or will Celestial be good for Scourge? Healing power for barrier, power for your attacks, condition damage for the boons you corrupt, plus vitality and toughness.
I’m maining Scourge, but I really have no idea what kind of stats I should aim for.
With the new specializations out, the core mechanics won’t change even if some of the numbers might. I thought this would be a good time to get opinions on a decent roamer build/profession.
It seems conditions will be meta again for the foreseeable future, so a decent cleanse/condition removal is necessary. I actually like playing Thief and was thinking of going P/P and D/P Deadeye, but I worry about my survibility. Or I was thinking Mirage (I dislike playing Chrono), but it just seems overall a worse version of Chrono. Scourge is an option, though right now Reaper seems to be a better roamer, or even core Necro. Soulbeast is another one I’m excited about, but the mechanic feels very clunky and undertuned.
Suggestions guys?
For example the trait Hidden Thief which grants Stealth on steal. Does it work when you F1 (mark?)
If you want 100% map as efficiently as possible, you don’t need max DPS really, you want maximum mobility, try this. It’s enough damage, defense and healing to get you through easy as and a lot of mobility with staff/gs.

Thanks for the suggestion. I’m actually liking this build more, though I’m confused over the role of Staff. I see that GS #3 allows you to leap, and Staff #3 allows you to “teleport”. So am I supposed to use these 2 skills while travelling, and using Shouts on CD for the Swiftness?
And to clarify, it seems this build doesn’t do a lot of condition damage, so I should be aiming for stats like Berserker? The previous build has Viper gear.
As someone who have never played Ranger and have limited knowledge of GW2, mind explaining the reasoning behind this build, or how to play it?
From the build I see that it’s a condi build? I thought mobs in open world die too quickly for condi to be effective? What is the “priority skills”? A/T if possible, then switch to SB or main SB and switch to A/T? What skills should I use the reduced CD from Quick Draw for?
Also since I want to try doing 100% map completion, I think I’ll need the +25% movement signet. Which utility can I sacrifice for it? That druid trait that gives Swiftness when not debuffed is tempting, but I don’t know if a whole specialization is worth keeping a utility slot.
Pardon my newbie (and obvious to many) questions. Thanks!
(edited by Cell.6821)
This may be obvious to many, but I’m at lost on what skills to use and when.
For example I’m playing Corruptionmancer and using sPvP as the situation.
If I’m not being attacked, what skills should I use? So far I’m standing at range using Staff #1 and spamming Staff #2. I use Staff #3 when chasing/retreating, Staff #4 when I have too many conditions on me, and Staff #5 when I need to interrupt.
But when do I use my Sc/Wh skills? Usually by the time I use Staff skills, #2 is up again. Should I use Staff #2 or switch to Sc/Wh? Other than specific situational conditions of the skills (like for condition transfer, making them slowed, etc), I’m at lost which skills to use.
Basically I’m not sure what skills do more damage outside. Should I autoattack with Specter? Autoattack with Staff #1? etc. Which skills should I spam once its cooldown is up?
Thanks for reading.
Figure nobody will complain about more roaming videos, I got bored and didn’t bother to change out of my raid armor, turned out it worked rather well.
Enjoy – full viper reaper roaming

Good stuff. As an aspiring Necro, can you elaborate more on the build?
1) What are the strength/weakeness of this build?
2) You mentioned you were wearing raid armor. Which armor would best suit the build then?
3) Any certain combination of skills you use? Like use #x then #y, etc etc.
I haven’t played GW2 for a long time. I remember when last I played, when I died there was a box that tell you what skills do what damage that ended up killing you. I don’t see the box anymore.
Is there a way to enable? I play Necro and sometimes I’ve no idea why I died. Like literally got bursted down in 2-3 secs.
Or is there a “damage meter” sort of? I have no idea if I should be spamming my weapon skills, swap then spam weapon skills again, or just autoattack #1 to deal the most damage (if I’m left unchecked).
Thanks!
I ran Shiro/Herald in WvW initially have since switched to Jalix for medium-mass wvw action. Here’s why I feel Jalix outperform Shiro:
1) Herald is awesome. I think I stay in Herald or tend to switch to it asap most of the time. Shiro is awesome too, but keeping Impossible Odds up while spamming Hammer #2 or #3 or #5 is too much on energy drain
2) Shiro’s healing skill can be a massive hindrance on occasions where you want to get out of combat asap or when your HP gets so low that you need to kite while healing. Actually I’d take Jalix just for his healing skill since it also removes condition.
3) See a zerg and you think you can survive a more seconds? Turn on Vengeful Hammer and just run around.. You’ll tag them all!
Shiro is awesome in smaller fights, but right now I just run Jalix/Herald most of the time.
I’m not hitting any walls though. I notice this happening in WvW when taking camps, sentries, towers, etc.
Basically every time the experience pop up after you kill an enemy appears, it turns itself off even though there are 10 others still alive. I have to watch and keep turning it on.
Hey all,
Just wondering if it’s intended that Vengeful Hammers turn itself off when an enemy dies. I’m running WvW with it and when I turn it on in a group of enemies, it gets turned off automatically once someone dies. This happened consistently and I’m sure it wasn’t because I was out of energy.
Thanks for linking that thread. I’m running something similar, but that thread has given me some ideas on how to improve my current build.
Can someone explain to me what does “Impact” mean?
Interested in the answer as well. I’m coming from Celestial Signet Necro so the adjustment is really big.
Ah I see! So to get 100% crit, I should have ~60% without Fury?
Taken from wiki:
Critical-hit chance has increased effectiveness when you are under the effect of fury.
Effectiveness Increased: 100%
So does this mean if I have 30% crit chance, this trait makes it 60% under Fury? (+100% of 30%). Or does it give me straight 100% crit chance?
I’m trying to gear our my Revenant for WvW and wonder if I can just skim on the Precision and focus on Power/Ferocity & a mix of Toughness/Vitality.
For starter, can you link your current build? From there then you’ll get recommendations, etc.
I strongly recommend MM build. Slot minions into your skills, and take Death Magic and minion-related traits.
As for weapons, go with D/W and Staff. Staff is tagging scatterd mobs, while Dagger #1 is to kill mobs quickly. Dagger #5 to help you move around faster. If you are still learning the game and not able to dodge well yet, then use Staff and let your minions tank.
It may not be as fun as other builds, but I found it extremely effective and you rarely die.
I’m late to the party and have not tried Revenant myself. I tried googling but no answer to my scope of questions: How is Revenant in the various game modes? I’m a player that plays a little in every game mode, though I don’t devote/specialize in any… That’s why a profession that does reasonably well in all game modes is very attractive.
For example, a Thief may do well in Open World, sPvP and WvW Roaming. But on large scale zerg vs zerg, its effectiveness is severely reduced.
1. Open World – Can Revenant keep Swiftness well? How is mob-tagging capabilities? For example I dislike playing Mesmer in Open World because mobs die too fast for my clones to be effective. Tagging is sometimes a problem as well, not to mention the lack of Swiftness.
2. WvW (Roaming) – Solo or duo, how is Revenant’s ability to roam compared to Ele/Thief/Mesmer?
3. WvW (Zerg) – Other than support bot, can you be useful in a zerg? ie backline/frontline DPS
4. sPvP – I think this one leaves a lot to own’s ability to enjoy the class. I try to enjoy every class in this mode since the narrow scope of sPvP allows you to tune each profession reasonably well.
Thanks!
I think Reaper/Necro not being a “meta” roamer is just fine. You can’t have one profession do well in every game mode. That said, if you do want to roam, you have the option.. Just may be not the most optimal. But if you like the class and enjoy playing it, go ahead mate!
There will always be people who post vids of them roaming with necro and doing exceptionally well.. But I always think these people are playing at higher skill level (and thus more successful) or skillful use to edit “boring” parts out (losing fights, people running away, meeting into zergs etc).
If you wanna be the meta roamer, I don’t think this class is for you.
I’m curious about WvW. Any thoughts?
I plan to be a mid-liner.. Using staff for long-range, then use GS for enemies that are pushing, then switch back to staff. Basically I’ll be further out than melee, but further in than backliner. Not sure how optimal it’ll be… But I think I’ll have fun this way!
I can’t get into celestial signet build either. I know it’s the meta, but I’ve had a lot more success using the wellomancer power build.
Slightly off-topic, but I have some questions for playing Reapear in WvW.
1) How do you guys find the experience of playing Repear in WvW as a non-solo? As it is currently, I usually sit in the backline and drop wells/marks when the commander calls for it. My role is the artillery. I wonder if Reaper can contribute something to the group(zerg) that other class can’t.
2) What kind of gear are you guys planning? Right now I’m full Zerker since I sit in the backline anyway. By proper positioning and group support, I tend to stay alive well. But with Reaper I imagine I need more health/toughness. Any recommendation as how to gear one up?
Hello,
I was selected to take part in the upcoming beta weekend for WvW. In the instruction there is this:
Client Download Instructions
Log in to your ArenaNet account.
In the Game Content section, click GW2-PTT under “Other Branch Clients.” If prompted, choose the save location.
However I cannot find GW2-PPT or Other Branch Clients under Game Content.
I recommend that you remove the image or blur out your log on email address as hackers will be one step closer to accessing your account.
I’m having a hard time connecting to the game now. Even when I’m in, I get disconnected minutes later. This wasn’t happening 12 hours ago.
I’m playing from SEA if it matters.
Rapth! Like a [BOSS]!
The Shards needed apparently drop off mobs when LA was being destroyed. There is a gem store item that allows you to mine it once a day for some shards; however considering the amount of shards needed to craft the Ascended version, I wonder if it’s feasible to do this now.
Any suggestions/thoughts? Or is this one of those items that reward loyalty to the game and thus late-starters like me cannot obtain it easily? I don’t mind if this is the case since I believe in loyalty being rewarded.
As an extension to the above question, is there any item like Tempered Spinal Blades which I should try to get now since it’ll be hard to get it in the future?
Thanks!
Talk about no sense of logic. what evidence do you have that the win rate is remotely viable? I’m speaking from experience. I could make 1000s if they let me. But I don’t want to get banned because they were slow to respond or fix this.
Why do you fear getting banned? The mechanics is in the game live and unless Anet announces otherwise, it’s working as intended. Nothing’s wrong with winning NOW.
So what’s this amazing build?
I picked up Signets of Suffering, Plague Signet and what not. The result? With all the conditions being applied here and there, I get spammed by conditions faster than I can transfer them. I die like rabbits most of the time.
If the expansion is “in line” with other games, then sure.
However the amount of content is NOT “in line” and thus it doesn’t justify the cost for existing owners like I am.
Thank you for all the responses. I actually have a Mesmer but never really able to enjoy him. I played him again for a couple of hours in WvW and sPvP but I feel so lacking. I know right now I lack the ability to utilize my Mesmer, but I find myself missing my Necro.
The recent patch notes make me (and many other Necros) questioning Anet’s intention towards necros though.
Anyway thanks!
This may be not be the best time to ask my questions since people are talking about the upcoming changes actively, but I hope some people will help answer some of my questions.
1) How is the skill-cap for Mesmer?
I think there is a high skill-cap for Elementalist and Engineer. For Elementalist, you need to be aware of 4×5 skills, its effects, its durations and its cooldowns, in addition to setting up combos. For Engineers with the various toolkits, knowing when to use which one at the right time is key.
I don’t think I can play at that level and wondering if I can still play Mesmer effectively. For example it may be optimal to spawn 3 clones at approx. the same distance from your enemy and then F1. The 3 clones will hit the enemy at the same time, causing burst damage. Hence positioning is important. Can I play Mesmer effectively without being able to do this well? I don’t want to play a totally faceroll class, but I know my own limitations.
2) What is my role as Mesmer in WvW (zerg & small group) and PvE?
Damage dealer? Buff bot? Utility bot? Kiting enemy non stop? Being up front?
3) Will latency affect my ability to play the class significantly?
I play with 250-300ms ping. I notice some traits are about interrupting your enemies. For a class like Elementalist, I think ping is a significant issue since you change attunements often and sometimes you need to setup a combo & finish it yourself. How about Mesmer?
Thanks!
My characters’ names of course XD
An Engineer named Explosives.
An Elementalist named Magii.
A Warrior named Sworthsmith.
A Sylvari named Elves.
I think mount is a great idea for this game simply for aesthetics reasons. For example the mount should only increase your speed by 33%, making it equivalent to perma swiftness and can only be mounted out of combat. I don’t see how it will break the game.
Of course it’ll be another source of revenue for Anet too and considering how other games implement paid mounts (WoW, ESO, etc), I think it’s a decent money.
I haven’t read the merged thread but I’m pretty sure someone has mentioned an idea similar to mine.
So how do you check your ping?
I’m playing from SEA and would like to check mine. Also do the tunneling services actually work? BattlePing, WTFast, etc
Anet sure loves Warriors & Thief..
Thank you for the clear and prompt answer!
This is a really noob question, but I’m wondering how Piercing works.
As I understand it, it’ll go through mobs instead of just stopping at my target (normal skills.) Do I have to target the furthest mob or targeting the nearest mob will also hit the mob behind it in a straight line?
I’m interested since I enjoy PvP and live in Oceanic timezone. Being outnumbered is a lot more fun than overpowering and becoming PvDoor.
However I’ve checked various times of the day and always unable to transfer. Any suggestions what day/time to boost my chances?
I have browsed several videos but they all talk about builds, advanced strats etc. I’m relatively new to GW2 and Necro in general.
1) What is supposed to be my “damage dealing” skills? I’m doing the newbie stuff and just cycling skills between cooldowns. Of course in PvP, I save things like fear, etc. But honestly speaking I don’t know which skills do what damage.
2) Somehow my WvW experience consist mostly of PvDoor. Any specific skills I should use? I see that my damage is considerably low vs Door. That being said, what skills should I use to hit the generals of the towers ASAP? Most of the time the zerg kill them in few seconds and I don’t get enough time to do anything.
Um.. Basically everything on how to L2Necro. I tried researching on my own but couldn’t find any satisfactory vids or guide. If it helps, my necro is 40, but I’m more of a PvP player. Most likely I’ll play 60% WvW, 25% sPvP and 15% PvE.
Thanks!
What would be your recommended build for leveling?
(PvE or EotM)
Hi all,
I’m relatively new to the game and in the process of leveling up. Currently I’m at 33. The thing is, I’m bored of questing Hearts and find WvW leveling to be more enjoyable, though it’s slower.
My question is what build would be most effective that allows me to survive in zergs while doing AoE damage as well? I’m down to 2 choices:
Juggermancer: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/necromancer/Juggermancer-Final-Blog-Link
or
Wellomancer: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/necromancer/Ascii-s-WvW-Wellomancer-Build
To start with, I don’t even know what significant changes in both builds are! Which would you recommend and how should I utilize the above builds?
Hi,
Sorry if this has been asked before. But what is the playstyle for the:
3.2 Shatter Cat Phantasm Hybrid build
Gear and Traits: http://tinyurl.com/Shatter-Cat-Mist-2-0-updated
Do I stay with S/S wherever possible and switch to Staff for defensive purposes? Or do I keep changing weapons to pump as many illusions out? Do I use all Shatter skills on cooldown?
When I shatter (F1 – F4), do the Illusions go to my current target or do they shatter at the target which I spawned them?
For example:
I pop Clone 1 on Mob A
I pop Clone 2 on Mob B
I pop Clone 3 on Mob C
I’m currently targetting Mob D.
Now when I shatter, which mob do my clones go to? I’m trying to position/time my clones such that they shatter to maximize aoe damage.
I only have 40 Elementalist. The class is actually to my liking since it can be effective range with aoe. However it’s the playstyle that I’m looking to switch.
Currently to play Elementalist effectively you’ve to time your attunement switch (for auras) and time your combo fields (massive boons). You also need to keep tracks of your various cooldowns (4×5 skills). Play right and it’s effective.
However I feel like I’m doing a lot of button pressing sometimes. I feel like I’m doing more to get the same result compared to other classes. Browsing the net, it’s been suggested many times that Mesmer is fun and effective to play, especially in WvW (which is my main enjoyment). But people note that the difficulty of playing a Mesmer is on par with Elementalist.
My question is how is it difficult? That you’ve to constantly move to find the right position? That you’ve to time your illusions right? etc etc. I’m looking for answers on the pros & cons of playing a Mesmer effectively.
Thank you.
