I can’t wait for this game to fail, been saying it was for awhile now and if they keep up what their doing nerfing all the drops and buffing all the mobs, this games gonna empty when EoS comes out.

I can’t stand a game that it feels like there is no feeling of reward for any kind of accomplishment or you feel like the people running it are punishing you for playing it all the time.

then why are you here? Plenty of grindy MMOs out there. Pick one and play it!

Every mmo is a grind. The only way they can keep people playing is grind. This game just combines grind with RNG and DR which makes it epic. It’s dress up pixel Barbie 2013!

Can I infer from your response then that you enjoy dressing up barbies? :P

Only if you were trolling ;-) 1/10

oh, but wouldnt it be great if its like that? nowdays, you just gotta be active finding the best way to farm gold bro. why choose the hard way when you can do the easy way? you like being tortured?

because easy is boring. Why would I want to play the game if it would bore me? Also you do realize that the economy would adapt, prices would fall and you would get the same amount of money for doing less than you are doing right now if these kind of spots were never there? I remember T6 blood being 50 silver. Now it’s barely at 20 and was steadily falling. Which means that you need to get 2X the amount of T6 blood to make the same profit. That makes things with fixed prices seem expensive and really screws the economy around.

I thought you played this because you said you couldn’t afford a sub game?

Can afford a sub game, don’t want to pay for a sub since it’s a waste of money considering that I could afford to buy vanity items to support a company.

Also, not being able to afford a sub is not the only reason a person would play a buy to play game like GW2…

That’s true you can’t buy keys to open gambling RNG boxes in a sub game most of the time so I guess if you like to gamble then F2P and buy2play give you that extra “option”.

The advantage of no sub for GW2 for my family, is it doesn’t cost us $60 a month to play. (yes we have 4 players in the home).

We don’t play standard F2P MMOs, because of the game breaking restrictions most of those impose

So for us GW2 B2P is perfect with no downside.

Edit: Also you can buy GW2 as a gift, unlike sub based MMOs : Here is a gift ,oh and btw you have to pay $15 a month

It’s 15 dollars a month. Yes 15 dollars lol.

I do any event in the area that I feel like doing, regardless of the reward.

Oh good to know yeah but just for your information, we do events because of the reward. just saying

If you total up the currency on all of my characters at this moment, I probably have less than 25 silver.

And I’m pretty sure I’m having a lot more fun doing what I’m doing, than you are doing what you’re doing.

Sounds like you’re spending more time on the forums than playing the game or maybe the rewards are just bad so you can’t make gold? Sad I probably haven’t logged in over a month and I bet I have more gold than you ;-)

One thing I have learned from the whole GW2 experience is when you log in if you can’t talk in trade chat without being suppressed, if you can’t trade an item to another player, if you can’t mail whatever and whenever you want to mail to another player what makes you think they’ll let you do anything else you want to do?

i wish i had screenie but never did expect the loots to be nerfed that badly. and yes it does give 10 loots @ maw last time, even 2 months ago but still that depends on luck. now im not sure.

usually i get about 3 lodes/cores mix with few exotics/rares.

the last time i did it, it only gave blues and greens. and maw only drops 5 loots.

remember the days people run in just for the chest cuz they give high chances of exotics.. not anymore sadly.

you dont see people asking for fotm 38/48 anymore do you? i only see people asking for fotm 1, 10, 20, and thats about it.

and also honestly speaking, nobody wants to go fotm nowdays. myself wont bother.

i mean, honestly. if every chest have a rate to give 80% white, 10% blue, 5% green, 3% rare and 0.5% on exotic, with 1.5% misc orbs will that be ok?

that is the feeling/vibe im getting tho. you guys want it tougher. harder to get things, stuff on tp to grow in price until its totally impossible to buy and then complain about it when its too late. or to your advantages. :/

yeah those spots i do know. but the main point here in this post is :

Why are we getting Punished because Anet is fighting bots?

Why are we considered as “BOTS” or treated as one because there are a few running rampant?

and it still has a very high chance to get you exotics. I was running it daily recently to get more rings for other characters and respects. Sometimes I get lodes, sometimes I get account bound exos (with very weird stat combos, I even made a thread about it O_O)
And if nobody wants to run high level fractals then why can I screenshot this off the LFG site at 5 AM for you? The 36 to 38 one? It’s very kitten popular.

Popular? Take a look at elapsed time lol

if you were here @ launch until now, you would have seen alot of zerg groups farming in orr. the only reason why most maps turning into an “Echo” map, is because they have been nerfed to oblivion. silently and deadly.

remember the fotm rush? why? let me tell you why.

most chest in fotm when launch give at least 5 loots for first 3 stages. last stage always gives 10 loots. at least 2 lodes and a core. nerf came everyone quit. unless u have no choice trying to get backpiece.

Orr nerf at cursed shore, etc etc. i cant list them all there are toooooooooo many. try googling around.

I was here at launch though. I was late by 2 weeks to start fractals but I have never, ever seen the last chest give 10 pieces of loot.
And everyone quit? It’s the easiest thing to get a group for, only overshadowed by cof.

there should be a better solution instead of punishing everyone else. we are not botters, we are players.

introduce a 3rd party software detection embedded to gw2 or make it un-editable.

why must we suffer? why not let the 3rd party app users suffer?

if they are really keen on getting rid of 3rd party software/exe/app users, they should do it since in wvw, there are positioning hacks, which they can even see people in stealth, waypoint hacking, where people teleport to anywhere they want, etc etc hacks.

why, why must the people that play by the book get punished? where is justice?

why are we as players getting discriminated and treated as a botter?

why are we as people supporting a game and keeping it alive/lively getting punished?

why?

It’s really not gamers problem it’s Anet’s. This is their product and they created this situation. Botters haven’t been effected but the players have. They shouldn’t have created a game with an economy like they have. This whole Free 2 Play and B 2 Play is garbage and DR and RNG are the result of players being to cheap to pay a sub.

Vayne it was different for me, I loved doing the dungeons and always felt rewarded. Especially when it was the daily, even when I got a green drop ( worth 1k) from the chest my heart beat a little faster and the one and only time I got a froggy sceptre in Bogroots I almost had a heart attack. Sadly it was crappy stats but still had fun selling in Spamadan.

But realistically how often did you get a green drop that was worth 1k. Surely you remember doing dungeons and just getting a gold drop that was worth crap. For every ten dunegons you did, maybe you go one decent drop. That was it.

In later days, once the HoM calculator was out, at least the onyx and diamonds were worth something but most of the yellow drops and even most of the green drops become worthless. There were so many green drops you had to merch because no one wanted them. Cyndr’s Heart anyone?

Thing is I enjoyed doing them, when it was the daily double win. I’d help someone who hadn’t done it with my heroes or if there was Rraggars (spellcheck) with Guild/Alliance I’d go. I don’t feel that in this game.

In GW I could slowly save up for skins etc. if I tried that with a legendary or some weapons on the TP, I’d be here till doomsday and with nothing fun like pugging being an option, what to do.

At the 10 month mark in Guild Wars 1, something like Obby armor was almost completely out of everyone’s reach. In two, three years time, the times you’re talking about, the whole situation will be different.

In vanilla Prophecies, money was very hard to come by.

I never played the vanilla (first game was GW/EotN thing), I was too busy being a sucker on games like Flyff at the time

This is my usual point. People are comparing this game to Guild Wars 1 after Guild Wars 1 had three games and an expansion. As MMOs age everything becomes easier to get, and there’s more stuff to get.

I think the reason things are harder to get early on is because that replaces content that can’t exist because there’s not enough time for it TO exist. So the company makes it harder to get things and some people don’t like that. Maybe those people will leave the game.

But I’d be happy to wager that more people will leave a game after they get everything they want than those people who have stuff to work towards.

This isn’t GW1 so people should stop expecting it to be.

Yeah, sorry my bad. After almost religiously getting my 50/50, you are probably right (zero sarcasm)

I didn’t mean that in a nasty way. I have gathered from many GW1 players that post here and elsewhere that the first game is far better. Not only is GW2 a different game but it seems Anet is a completely different company and not for the better.

I’ve been to malchor’s leap today to get the farmers away from there. What kind of impression do you think you give a new player when he goes to finish a temple event to buy his first ever pair of exotics and gets chased away by people swearing at him, because they want the event not completed and the temple not open so that they could continue getting sweet lootz?
If you want to farm go and do it in places where it doesn’t affect other players or ruin our world. Like the easy to run dungeon paths or go and kill mobs somewhere in the open world. Do not stop events from progressing and do not try to stop people completing them.

Now there’s close to 20 events in the world that give you a guaranteed rare (see ecto and yellow prices – those are falling because of easy to get rares and rewarding world events) the same events have a high chance to drop a unique exotic or a precursor.

The behavior of anyone cursing at you is disgusting and they should be banned for it but Anet has created this environment with the poor game rewards just like Blizzard has created the nastiest mmo community in any mmo in WOW by allowing people to abuse each other.

You should report them and I hope they get banned but Anet is also responsible for this behavior because of their greed for pushing people to play this game the way want them to and giving very bad rewards and not allowing farming.

Turns out these boxes are pretty much in every game. I can’t say for every mmo but i know for sure:
GW2
Tera
FFXI
Aion

It appears that people generally are okay with RNG boxes dropping epic things at chance. Just wanted to add that info. And again, they are optional.

There are drug dealers in every state of the United States but that still doesn’t make what they do moral or legal. 0/10but good try lol.

So you’re saying a company that ALREADY makes millions and millions of dollars each and every month, should go out and sell mounts and minis for $25 bucks as well. And that’s somehow okay?

But Anet, that doesn’t have a subscription fee are the bad guys because some of the cosmetic skins are RNG?

We have a completely different set of morals. In no way does WoW need that kind of money to run their game. Half of it is put back into advertising. The company makes crazy money and STILL sells stuff for cash.

I don’t like RNG, but I hate a company that charges a monthly fee to millions of people and still has the gall to sell items, even cosmetic items outside of that.
Vayne you have no idea how Blizzard spends the money it makes from WOW. Also they charge for mounts and pets and you know exactly what you are getting and there’s nothing unethical about how WOW is operated financially. They do a horrible job of monitoring players being abusive in the game but that’s about it.

Also why do you hate paying a monthly fee for a game? Do you expect everyone else to buy lottery/gambling chests for things they could buy directly from the cash shop just because you don’t want to pay to play a game?

Are you saying you can afford15 bucks a month to play a game?

Drew.1865

Every single time you bring up the manifesto with regards to Anet lying you lose more and more credibility. There is precisely ONE LINE in the entire manifesto that anyone can really argue and that’s the “everyone you loved about Guild Wars 1 line”. The Manifesto is many paragraphs long and everything in everyone one of those paragraphs is part of this game.

You’re being too literal to try and defend anet. The fact is the marketing with the manifesto and other blogs and articles emphasised anet as a company who cared about the players and who were making a game which emphasised the player experience above all else with fun as the overriding factor and none of the OCDness of other mmos.

The reality is totally different and the extreme RNG and gambling boxes is a part of it. This is why people are angry at anet, they bought into the marketing and trusted anet based on their rep with GW1. That trust was misplaced and anet have been revealed to be just like most other game makers and publishers.

I actually think mmo gamers are just as guilty as Anet for expecting a game that’s totally free. If so many gamers didn’t cry about paying 15 bucks a month for a sub we wouldn’t be stuck in an industry using these types of revenue generation. It won’t be long before every mmo is F2P with a cash shop set up this way.

If you want to see how bad RNG and gambling boxes are going to get log into neverwinter. The boxes that drop are spammed in chat.

But we’re not being milked. You don’t have to use the shop to play. I don’t see how that makes me an “unemployed PR” – I actually enjoy GW2, I don’t post just to “make my purchase seem worthwhile”.

If you’re paying a sub that’s being milked. We pay for exactly as much or as little as we want to. If you don’t like the price of x you don’t have to pay for x.

That said I’d love it if everything was token based instead of specific drops though (Also like in firefall, where everything is crafted and items degrade). There’s so much on loot tables, when I get a rare drop its a 1/100 chance of it being useful :p.

Also caring about being a “SPECIAL UNIQUE SNOWFLAKE” and feeling bad when you’re not is so immature. Grow up.

Not to mention that one doesn’t have to spend cash to buy gems because you can buy gems with in game gold. To me that seems like an extra perk because if you work/grind hard enough you never have to pay a dime for the items other people are paying for. So after the initial purchase of the game, everyone has the same access to all aspects of the game free or at cost should you elect to pay cash.

I think there is a hidden message in some of this debate related to wanting everything for free because “NCsoft is greedy because they are trying to make money.” As mentioned by others simple solution, don’t spend money if you don’t want to. Supply and demand will dictate what is sold for real money.

Actually governments decide what is sold for real money in the long run.

I’m glad you can accept it. Most of the people posting here cannot.

I don’t like lotteries, and I choose not to participate. But that doesn’t mean I don’t understand why they exist. The impact of these boxes is almost unnoticeable compared to real world gambling – state lotteries, the Powerball drawings, casinos even entire cities devoted to gambling… and that’s just the US. The money Anet has made from selling these things since the game began would get lost in the accounts of a single casino.

You’re trying to derail the thread and casinos are regulated by governments. We aren’t discussing casinos we’re discussing an mmo. The type of gambling or lottery whatever you want to call it in GW2 isn’t regulated yet. Some find it unethical and some do not.

At this time mmo companies can get away with this behavior but hopefully the people that play these games will stop supporting this practice.

I have come to the realization that there are 2 types of mmo players. Those that want the game free to play and for it to be financed through gambling to support the game so they don’t have to pay a sub and another group that would prefer a sub and only items in the cash shop you can directly purchase.

I prefer the method I find to be ethical and that’s to just pay a sub.

We have players under the age of 18 if they do buy it is that illegal(online gambling).

It’s not gambling. You are GUARENTEED to get something, just maybe not what you want.

I guess lucky dips should be illegal for children too.

It is gambling. The item you want is not guaranteed when opening the chest, you buy the chests to get a chance on the weapon skins, and nothing else..How in the world are you missing the fact that this is gambling ?

Gambling “. To take a risk in the hope of gaining an advantage or a benefit.” " An act or undertaking of uncertain outcome; a risk: I took a gamble that stock prices would rise."

It’s not gambling, because you don’t have to buy it for the skin. The skin is just one possible item that you can get. It’s like buying a raffle. You get a raffle without any guarantee of getting anything except that you get nothing for buying it and only get something if you win. In this case, you’re buying something which contains something. It’s not TECHNICALLY gambling.

If you put a dollar in a slot machine there’s no guarantee you get anything out of it. If you buy a consortium chest, you get something for your money.

I mean for years, cereal packets have random prices in them. Collect all the toys. Collect all the stickers. We’ve seen McDonalds have a monopoly game where you have to get different pieces to get a chance to win.

Gambling? Nah, not really. But it’s still annoying as hell. lol

.Read the definition of gambling, because it is.And dont even compare gambling to cereal packets, wich you buy to Feed yourself and the toy is a little extra, you dont get a chance to get food, you get food for 100% and a chance on a toy.In this case,i would buy the chest to get the skin since im not interested in getting anything else, now if im buying 100 boxes because i want the weapon skin and i keep getting something else,How is this not gambling….? You can keep telling yourself it isn’t,but it is.

Again..Gambling; An act or undertaking of uncertain outcome; a risk
I buy those chest to get a weapon with uncertain outcome…it’s a risk……

By your definition then, running a dungeon for tokens is a risk too, because there’s no guarantee you’ll complete it. It may be gambling in your mind, it’s not gambling by law. And that’s sorta what matters. You can’t regulate something that isn’t gambling.

Baseball cards have random cards in them, you buy them in packs for real money and there’s no guarantee you’ll get a good card. It’s not considered gambling.

You don’t have to pay gems at the entrance of the dungeon so any reward is without monetary risk.

While in the past I’ve bought black lion keys, I’ve made the personal decision not to buy keys or chests, because I dislike the cash for RNG thing.

I’m not calling for a boycott, but I am choosing to express my personal displeasure.

Shame too. I really like the new skins..but not enough to play the RNG game for them. Maybe I’ll get one from a chest drop.

I hope they change this part of the game. You are a very good customer and you deserve to have this game be the best mmo. In many ways it is but I just can’t support a company regardless of how many do this. There are tons of wonderful things about this game. It is a true work of art and looking at it you can see how hard they worked on it.

They deserve to make as much money as possible but let it be an honest reward for their work.

I loved this game but the RNG was just way out of control and of course that is just my opinion.

Hopefully in time it will be the best mmo.

Also it’s sad that people exploited in the beginning of the game and hopefully they continue to ban anyone doing that.

I wouldn’t be worried. Colin is talking to players and fans. NCsoft is talking to investors. The way you communicate with each is completely different.

Preparing an expansion pack from an investor point of view means planning it, not necessarily programming it. Preparing an expansion pack from Colin’s point of view is actively working on it.

It’s not a priority to Colin, who’s looking at what we’re doing RIGHT NOW. Colin is looking short term. NCsoft is looking to the more distant future, in sort of a business plan.

Interpretation is that an expansion will happen at some point, but it’s not actively being worked on now.

Vayne this little sentence right here is pretty interesting.

The way you have that worded you just spoke as if you are working with Colin as part of the Anet team. the use of the word “we’re” is very interesting.

(Quote: It’s not a priority to Colin, who’s looking at what we’re doing RIGHT NOW. Colin is looking short term. NCsoft is looking to the more distant future, in sort of a business plan)

The way you have that worded you just spoke as if you are working with Colin as part of the Anet team. the use of the word “we’re” is very interesting.

Mmo with a sub = a massive multiplayer online game with a monthly sub.
F2P or B2P = a massive multiplayer online game that is really a virtual casino (usually originating from Korea). See FarmVille but with a lot more pixels.

I don’t know about you but lots of people in my guild farm in Frost Gorge sound and a few people farm in Southsun Cove.

I’ve had pretty good luck getting powerful blood in Southsun cove, which you can sell for whatever T6 mats you need. In the water I’ve gotten some armored scale too.

Orr consists of 3 end level zones, but they’re not the only end level zones.

Anyway I still get my best stuff in the fractals.

I like farming events, I don’t like mindless running through creatures where DR sets in after 15 min.

As for Frostgorge there is nothing but the Jormag event. I used to farm ‘grawl canyon’ regularly until drops were nerfed and DR increased to ‘discourage’ the bots .. The same with that island to the west. Your guild must like farming all the tufts of fur and rags that constantly drop …

Southsum is so dead it is not even worth mentioning … If this what we get for end-game, this game is in worse shape than I thought. The only reason to go there was for the rich ori and that is long gone …

Maybe it’s not an end game designed to please farmers, and for people who don’t actively “farm” it’s a much better game.

I’m pretty sure most farmers think that more people by percentage farm than actually do. Farming is not playing a game. Farming is ignoring the game to do an activity you choose to do. I’m glad I hate farming.

Hilarious, in a different thread you defend the farming and say it’s useless to break up the clumps and that’s just the way it is, then here you are saying it’s a good thing to break up the clumps simply because that’s the way it should be and people should be out in the world just playing.

Lol, you slay me. Read here to see the exact opposite of what he is saying in this topic

http://tinyurl.com/blkugbz

Actually clumping and farming are two completely different things. Disagreeing with what I say is one thing. Deliberately misreprenting what I’m talking about is quite another. I feel really bad that you felt you had to go here.

I’m talking about having people grouped around a series of events and activities, planned for that, so that it’s easy to let say find groups. Such as the MF, which is temporary content. Because everyone is doing it, it’s quite easy to find groups.

I’m not talking about running the same content over and over and RUINING it for other people who want to do it honestly, as I’ve said in other threads. I’ve never EVER been for the dragon events the way they are now, because they’re pointless, except for getting people into an area to do other events. But I haven’t commented on those events themselves, and you’d be well to actually ready what I say.

I’ve said several times that getting people playing in the same areas is quite positive, where as farming an area to the point where people can’t play it is another matter. I can like to have people where I’m playing and recognize that too many people in an area is bad.

But that is why the Living Story used entire zones. Why the daily uses entire zones. When combined with the meta events in those areas they get people playing in the same areas.

I’ve just lost a whole lot of respect for you. Taking stuff out of context to try to make a point is not a good look.

Posting comment after comment as though you are a personal wiki about the mmo industry isn’t a good look either. Posters want to discuss opinions and ideas not have someone post condescending comments as if they are more intelligent or their opinions are more than just an opinion.

Ok let’s think logically here. If the loot was not an issue for MANY players then why would they give guaranteed yellow drops from a chest. Also if it’s really all RNG then how can they control just that one drop? Basically ALL the drops in this game are tweaked just like slot machines in a casino. The spamming of yellows or exotic drops in chat are just like the lights that flash and the alarms that go off when someone hits the jackpot on a slot machine.

This is no more a game than a slot machine but with each mob kill it’s a pull on the lever.
If you want to play a game where you aren’t on a hamster wheel then play a game with a sub. Sub games are a lot more honest as far as what the games real rewards are. You might have to grind a lot in a sub game but you know what’s at the end of the grind.

Ummm because they’re supposed to be meta events and people were complaining they weren’t worth doing. And because by putting those rewards into those meta events they managed to get people out of Orr (one of their goals) and into the world. Because a lot of people while waiting for meta events to spawn in a zone go and do other events and it makes the world busier.

I can think of a host of reasons that have nothing to do with loot bugs as a reason why Anet would change loot distribution.

Yeah even the meta events had bad drops so they literally had to guarantee you would get a drop just so they could get people to do those events. When you have to do something like that you’re admitting there’s a problem. It didn’t help when they conviently deleted the post about loot drops lol. Notice the dev response is posted so people can’t respond or continue the discussion ;-)

But they fixed the problem, because at least I get yellows from the big chests relatively often, in addition to the yellows I get from the daily chest. You’re saying they didn’t fix the problem, when in fact, for most people anyway, they did. I don’t know if there really is something to some people or characters being unlucky but I will say that my drop rate from the big chests, not the daily chests, have signficantly improved.

Ergo, from my point of view this problem is fixed.

The problem of meta events was fixed but none of the other areas of the game had rewards adjusted. If anything they were nerfed into the ground to try and balance the meta event rare loot to keep the pressure up for players to use the gem store as much as possible.

I’ll be seeing if they give me the usual flack about it being my imagination, sorry 8 months of the same loot experience, a different experience mind you than what I experienced when the game was without loot nerfs and DR prior to DR being implemented, says otherwise. Will they still claim it’s all in our heads a year from now?

It’s true, the rest were not adjusted. I firmly recall getting rares and exotics from level 75-80 zone chests with or without a champion defending them and I firmly recall getting rares, and T6 mats from farming in those zones.

They even thinned the mobs out. Changed the actual drops to a bag if you got anything besides a porous bone in Orr and added Champions just to make sure it was nerfed lol.

I feel sorry for a new player just starting to play this game. I can’t imagine how hard it is for them.

I remember each of the 3…yeah 3, open world exotic drops I have gotten in my 2,772 hours of play. I highly expect my ratio to be 1:1000 hrs and yeah I do expect better b/c that is pathetic at best.

Thanx for proving my point… if you expect to see a pattern come out of random events, then I can almost guarantee disappointment.

Shortly after I began following the dragon timer and getting those bonus chests, I got two exotics. One from a chest, the other from the Mystic Forge, on two consecutive days. It’s been about two weeks since then and I haven’t seen another. I never got an exotic before, and I may never get another exotic drop, or I could get one tomorrow. I have no expectations.

So your point is that those 3 drops I have had is only pathetic in my mind? That we should not expect loot at all in a game where loot is a major aspect of said game? Maybe we shouldn’t expect stories, dungeons, modern graphics, or anything for that matter?
Where is that line? What should be expected from this type of game? I feel that my expectations are completely reasonable given the context of the game. Expectations are not all unreasonable or unfounded.

The fanboys will next use the “but there’s no sub” excuse. There’s always a reason why criticism of the game is unreasonable as far as they’re concerned.

The GW2 designers steal artwork themselves.
The sailing ship with the red dots on its sails on the Frostgorge Sound loading screen was photoshopped from a picture of the sailing vessel Concordia.

I made a threa about it some time ago, where also the artwork of the Hounds of Balthazar was mentioned being “stolen”.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/S-V-Concordia-on-Frostgorge-loading-screen/first#post1832495

It’s called matte digital painting and is HUGE in the gaming and digital art community. I doubt it was used illegally. Many of the loading screens use this technique because they are mostly photographs sketched over. The Buddhist temple in Tibet is also on the frost gorge sound screen :-)

My Guild Wars 2 Review

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Drew.1865

Drew.1865

Now seriously, my eyes hurt only while scrolling. You should do a resume or something.

Last post in the review, the Conclusion (just two paragraphs :-P).

A pattern of bad updates? Based on what?

Karka update. Guild missions update in which guild missions were bugged and did not work properly. Update that introduced the exploit in AC that took ArenaNet one month to fix; update that actually made the Scavengers in AC worse than they were. Lackluster story added through Flame & Frost. Ascended tier… Fractals with a gate mechanic based on gear, and so on.

You say it is riddled with bugs. No mmo is bug free

That’s just a bad excuse. MMORPGs are usually mediocre games. It’s irrelevant if GW2 is sligthly less mediocre or not; what matters is if Guild Wars 2 is a good game or not. And the amount of bugs in this game, plus how slow ArenaNet is in fixing them, is not something you see in good games.

Sorry but this is very relevant, because you are ignoring the reason most MMOs are bugged. And if you ignore that reason then you’re just a bad reviewer.

See reviewers and I’ve written professional reviews, take things into account like genre. The problem is, MMOs, unlike most games, change all the time. The more a game changes, the less time devs have to work on older bugs and the more new bugs get introduced because there’s new code.

Even driving games are bugged, but driving games tend not to evolve. They’re what they are when you buy them. And there are still bugs and often games are patched. But since new content generally isn’t added, or very little new content such as DLCs well, there’s less reasons for bugs to exist.

The more ambitious a project the more it’s going to have bugs. Windows has bugs and as far as I can tell, Microsoft is a much bigger company than Anet.

Of course, fun is relative. Reading your review, I think you had the conclusion in mind while writing it, which doesn’t actually produce a fair review.

Of course, for an amateur review, you’d expect this. It would have been much better if you saved the wall of text and just jumped to your conclusion though, since everything you say is suspect if you start with bias.

Vayne you’re just as bad about bias except your bias is on the other side. Also if you’ve read a book before then walls of text should be something your familiar with. When you read a game magazine article do you complain about the article being a wall of text? Or do you just say it’s a wall of text when you disagree with it?

OP trying to have a critical discussion in this forum is pretty pointless. It’s like trying to get Scientologists to admit they believe in Xenu.

I don’t really care about DR, I don’t have an attention span long enough to hit it. Loot tables are kittening kitten in this game, 1 of the worst I ever seen. I have limited time to play and want to maximize my gains in that time. I don’t care for the legendary, I think most of them are fugly and I will not spend years try to put one together. The end game for me is making money and mats to try new gear and builds on all my alts and playing WvW which is a huge gold sink. With Anet nerfing all the good money making spots they are effectively killing the end game for me and a lot of players like me and I find myself playing less and less and wanting to play less. They advertised playing the game the way you want and be able to get anything you want by doing so which is a kittening lie. It’s down to the mega events and temples and farm CoF1. Anything else is a waste of time cause you aren’t getting rewarded for it. WvW players can’t just play WvW if they wanted to cause you inevitably spend more money then you can make unless all you do is zerg, never upgrade anything and never build any siege. Anet really needs to review the rewards system in GW2.

Completely agree.

DR gets taken off, farmer farms all mats, a normal player collects the mats while playing normally, farmer brings the mats price down, normal player can’t get money by selling what he collected now, normal player can’t get exotic jewels unless he has jewel-crafting

OTOH mats are cheap and more plentiful so normal player can easily level up jewelry and concentrate more on areas of the game s/he enjoys.

The prices of mats are increased to insane prices by people playing the TP and buying up the supply raising prices also. Bots farming and selling mats are the only counter to people driving up prices on the TP and how do we know if Anet deletes mats or anything in surplus off the TP. They could always buy things in bulk and delete them from the game.

The reason the game discourages you from farming is because you are NOT supposed to FARM in this game.

loooooooooool

So you’re supposed to get all those ecto and T6 stacks (legendary, ascendeds, MF skins) by not farming? GL doing that.

But that’s how I did it. I get ectos from just playing the game. I get karma from playing the game. I get mystic coins from playing the game. I get skill points from playing the game. Mystic coins are also cheap on the marketplace right now.

Then I play the mystic forge for clovers. I have far far more clovers than I need to make two legendary weapons but they also reward me, sometimes, with T6 mats. Doing this when I get ectos and enough coins have given me enough T6 mats to get my legendary. I tend to get more elaborate totems and powerful blood than other T6 mats, but I just sell those and buy the mats I need.

In the end, it took a look time, but it wasn’t impossible….and I didn’t farm to get them.

With all the time you spend on the forums you must have really good luck with drops ;-)

I’m here today just because I’d really like to address something that I know 99% of all the readers will be sticklers or sympathizers. The 1% may just be dev’s or GM’s(if I’m so luckly) But I’d really like to start by addressing the buffs/nerfs that have been going around the last few weeks.

So to state simply why all this was compiled inside my brain, I was hacked and lost all of my gold. It was about 465g some of you may say “Pfft pocket change” but to me that was a lot… I opened a ticket a few weeks later and Anet couldn’t do anything because I took so long to report it(partially my fault I admit) but none the less this was very discouraging and disappointing. So I started farming, back to the grind as we would say, but nay nay says Anet. So I understand buffing an event or four because they’re too easy but over the last few weeks not have I only seen events become almost three times harder but I have seen that they are also dropping less and less valuable items. So how did this make me feel? Well your reading this so you obviously want to know, It kitten me offfffffffffffffffff. Farming has become even more of a tedious and uneventful aspect of the MMO game experience with these changes.

Next, the nerfing of popular dungeon’s loot, I don’t know if zorromos paid Anet off but c’mon! My farm group is getting less and less loot from these dungeons we used to rely on for currency all the while I see top end T6 mat prices going back up?!?! why? because nerfing loot drops = higher demand which = higher supply pricing.

Now to get to the topic of all this, Anet. We are sooooo happy you made GW2 and made it F2P at that! BUT! you’re pushing people even harder towards the gem market. I have gotten to the point where I feel I almost NEED to buy gems in order to get back on my feet after being hacked. Which I don’t have 200 dollars to get 16k gems so I can be back at my 465g… We know you need money to survive in this world but how far is your cash grab reach going to go?

Maybe this is just me? but honestly I see where they’re going with this. This needs to change, We use cash markets for exclusive items and rewards/boosts not as a necessity. Anet, please if you think this will push people towards your gem market please remember if you deter people too much into your what is beginning to look like greedy palms they will go to 3rd party vendors. We all know you can never truly destroy a 3rd party vendor. I’m not saying I’m going to buy gold from some shady kitten website but others will. I’ve always believed in earning my gold through farming and hard work. Then again the past few weeks have yielded such low profit I just want to smash my face against my keyboard till f,c,u,k,d,e are all permanently embedded in my skin feel free to rearrange those as you see fit!

So I’ll say this in short to sum it all up, We know you like money, we love money too. We enjoy your game but you’re killing us with your push to your cash grab market. We know it’s a necessity and we already pump money into it like gas into a H2 hummer. So please ease off the throttle. Drive the hybrid for a bit and bring the RNG back to where it was or should be so people like me(which make up the majority of game players) can kill Grenth and Champion Wraiths…. and get something better than a Blue while wearing 185% MF….

Sincerely yours,
-Forge.

You should play games for fun and having over 400 gold shouldn’t be what makes it fun for you.

this is an excellent point! and one we agree on. i have also given up (for a while now) because of the horrible rng. its disgusting.

and if to complain about rng. EVERY single mmo on the market has it! Go back to old ones! They have it even worse! Ever tried to complete a quest on WoW? “get me 10 apples from these mobs” and the drop rate is 0.005. Good luck not going insane sitting there laughing at your screen after killing your 200th mob. Guild Wars 1 had it. “Bring me 2 naga pelts” “I don’t have any, I guess I should kill the naga at the beach. kitten out of naga. Need to reset the instance and do it again…” Every single MMO had RNG. New MMOs have the least RNG out of all MMOs.

The RNG in wow is laughable. It’s not bad at all unless you want something that is actually rare and not just colored yellow and called rare. You can do raid finder and the rolls for gear is RNG but it’s a joke since you can go in the raids with pvp gear on. Getting gear in that game is beyond easy and I get a drop from EVERY mob.

Wow has the best loot and reward system of any mmo I’m playing. Neverwinter is a complete cash grab joke and probably won’t make it a year and Tera is just teraible. GW2 is no different but the keep their push to the gem shop under the radar with hidden loot nerfs and DR and RNG.

at this point i wouldnt listen to his arguments anymore, you cant make money by doing nothing, and “playing the game” is an awful way to get you anywhere in terms of a legendary.

and if some people want legendary weapons?
I just really don’t understand Anet’s mentality
I got 100% map completion I’ve seen all the world has to offer
now what?
other than a legendary what else is their to do?

you’re both essentially crying “I want my legendary now”. A legendary was designed to take years to get, hence legendary.

You obviously didn’t get the point that MANY people farm for a legendary. Also you don’t know why DR is in place only an Anet employee knows how it works and why they really use it.

People play mmos in different ways and some players actually enjoy farming.

those people then should probably find an MMO that allows it. Besides while Guild Wars 2 community is crying, Tera has a far harsher DR and people seem to be okay with it.

Lol at the Tera “community”! Have you read map chat in that game? That’s not a community that’s a daycare center with RNG and a cash shop with hello kitty mobs.
