When are thieves getting the highest burst?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Drew.1865

Drew.1865

Its because a thief is really a assassin in GW2, they purposely designed it to be able to kill any of the other 7 classes in a 1v1 situation no problem…

Assassins aren’t brawlers. They killed people in their sleep, from a distance, or via proxy. Most documented assassinations prior to the industrial age were actually performed by woman.

So, no, assassins aren’t inherently more deadly than other professional killers.

You seem to underestimate the female gender?

Clearly, they are only good for healing and cooking profession!

Seems some women’s biggest falt is in raising their children to not see women as having a specific role in life :-)

I’d adore watching some of you even try to play thief at any competitive level… so you entered WvW and got stomped by a glass cannon, please just stop crying about it.. Thieves are definitely not the golden child and neither are warriors. Try playing a class and understanding it before screaming OP, OP! Makes you look ridiculous and whiny.

WvW was never and will never be balanced, nor is it meant to be. You want balance? Enter some real pvp, and keep quiet. Wanna hear something amazing? Thief needs buffs not nerfs, although I am not talking about damage.

I don’t think Eddie Murphy plays GW2 so the thief can’t be the golden child.

Lol nice reference love that movie.

I love Eddie Murphy :-). I hope he does play mmos in secret that would be awesome :-)

Why is Anet nerfing every single farming location that players find?

Because this game never intended to allow you to farm in the first place. Hence in launched with diminishing returns in exp, money and loot.
Why keep nerfing things you ask? Because people like you still didn’t get the point that you are not supposed to farm in this game.

You obviously didn’t get the point that MANY people farm for a legendary. Also you don’t know why DR is in place only an Anet employee knows how it works and why they really use it.

People play mmos in different ways and some players actually enjoy farming.

MMOs have the highest risk factor of any type of game. They cost more to run. The staff required to run Guild Wars 2 is more than five times the size of what it cost to run Guild Wars 1.

You can compare the two games all you like, but this is a much bigger project with a much higher overhead. It requires a different level of financial support.

Yes but big overheads are also backed up large sales volume…

You often ask people to back up their statements : ), so I’m curious, what facts & figures are people who justify the Gem shop using to base there views on?

How do we know that any of the money made through the Gem shop is even going back into the game?

How do we know that Gem shop items weren’t developed from the get-go, and are just being slowly leaked out as Gem prices go up?

I’d love to hear the stats from you or anyone else that has them : )

Personally I’d load up the gem store with every non-essential in game item I could think of no matter how small the audience for it may be. If I thought enough people were willing to buy it to cover the cost of development plus earn money it would be in the gem store.

I think you’ll find that as the Gem prices rise you will find more and more HIGH desirability (or RNG) item’s being released, it would be pointless loading up the Gem shop until the price of gems has risen as it wouldn’t serve its purpose, to make profit and to sink in game gold… But that is just my assumption : )

Vayne how do you know how many staff members Anet has or have access to any of the info you claim to know?

Question about updates

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Drew.1865

This has happened more and more lately, especially during the time where my guild does their missions.

We have set up Guild Bountys/Rushes for 8-9 PM EST on X days (usually Saturday and Sunday), and I cant tell you how many times a random patch or build update hits us during our mission, causing us to lose progress and have to start over -_-

Why must updates be scheduled for prime time? Why not do them overnight? This one was a flame and frost fix.. come on lol :c

This game doesn’t even have down time and has no sub. There are MANY things Anet does wrong but paying employees to do maintance aka a new patch at 3am so people can do guild missions is silly.

@Vayne – Thanks for the response. To me, balance & fairness are an integral part of Ethics, as imbalance and inequality can often lead to unhealthy consequences for both the game, and more importantly the individuals who play it. So what we choose to prop up/promote/push is of all importance in this regard. Please note, I’m not trying to preach at you lol, but more just noting (like others) that you talk a lot about the game a lot in a positive light, when from where I sit there are more serious issues at play.

@Ballistic – I was actually thinking of GW1 – it chugged along just fine in the beginning without micro-transactions and only started introducing them years down the road, and even then what you could get was minimal & limited. GW2 on the other hand is streamlined for it, and so imo has started to travel a slippery slope because you will find more often than not in todays society that money overrides Ethics, which is not good for anyone as I touched on above.

I should also add that many (probably the majority) of online games started out micro-transaction free, and managed to provide free content and patches. To do this was nothing more than good business practises, it keeps people happy & interested which keeps them active & loyal, while remaining Ethically sound! – It’s a win-win for all… So again I would ask, what has changed so much that this can no longer occur? Thanks for readig : ).

They are about to pass Internet sales tax in the US so that means micro transactions will be taxed and that starts the wheels turning for future regulation of mmos using gambling. Trust me this has gotten out of hand and I wouldn’t be surprised if micro transactions are stopped and mmos go back to the sub plan in the future.

I also think some players are starting to understand that the rewards in F2P games are much worse than sub games. Neverwinter is a great example of this. The boxes being linked in zone chat just like someone winning the jackpot at a slot machine makes me lol. You can open it but first you have to buy a key with real money lol.

The game's economy

I read this article on the economy the other day and found it interesting. It’s a very long article covering pretty much all aspects of the economy so I won’t try to summarize it here.

http://www.gamasutra.com/blogs/RaminShokrizade/20130426/191346/Guild_Wars_2_Economy_Review.php

I read it too, but like most wannabe economists, he uses a lot of words to say nothing at all. That article contains no real information.

Considering the world economy is a huge ponzi scam (credit anyone) that could topple at any moment which economists aren’t wannabes?

The game's economy

in Black Lion Trading Co

Drew.1865

In reference to the article, the first thing you notice is that he didn’t exactly do his homework. You don’t just lose that first listing fee of 5% but you have to add a sales tax of 10% when the item sells. In total it costs 15% to sell an item on the Trading Post.
Having said that I don’t think the article was completely bogus. It had a lot of good points. And if you read the comments below the article, there is a really good discussion that is more informative.

I have yet to play an mmo without a bogus and wacky economy. Since they all have it I personally prefer one with a sub. That way I don’t get nickel and dimed for everything and only have to pay that fee and the virtual goods in the game are bought with virtual money.
There is no F2P game. Nothing is free.

If you are going to pug you are better off running with friends or your guild. I remember running a guild run in TA and we picked up our 5th a ranger who instead of helping kept making comments about low dps lol. I kicked him and we all laughed at him and made fun of him for months. We lovingly referred to him as a crit ranger.

Once we kicked him from the group it was smooth sailing and I always gave out any loot I got to the group by people picking numbers and our replacement 5th got an onyx loadstone.

I’m slowly finding this game boring. What aspects of the game do you find exciting and rejuvenating? What do you think makes this a fun MMORPG? love to hear personal stories!

The game has no rewards other than social rewards from playing it with your friends. Once your friends get bored or also realize it is one of the least rewarding mmos you can play it gets boring because then you’re playing it alone.

They need to change the combat, boring builds, loot system aka RNG, remove DR, add things players actually want to the gem store (emotes and dances are a start) and lose the RNG gambling chests, make world bosses fun, stop making dungeons even worse than they already are and admit the design of them is terrible and many other things.

Actually I find other MMOs far less rewarding than this one, friends aside. Because my rewards aren’t necessarily loot. Fun is a type of reward too and I find this game fun. I don’t find other games fun, even though they may give me more loot.

Of course, the obvious fact is that the more loot given out freely in any game, the higher the inflation in that game and what ends up happening is that it tends to balance out. I don’t know why most people seem to ignore this basic economic fact.

Games should be fun and not be centered around an economy in my opinion and that’s just my opinion as it is my opinion that it is the least rewarding mmo on the market.

I’m glad you find it rewarding but I didn’t once I figured out everything was focused on the gem store.

If everything is focused on the gem store, as you claim, how are so many playing for free without buying gems. There are plenty of people doing that.

I think this opinion of yours has a long way to go to be proven. I’ve seen games focused around the gem store (Runes of Magic anyone), where you can rent a mount for a week with cash. This isn’t one of them.

We disagree :-)

Improper use of game report system

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Drew.1865

Drew.1865

So far I know some players got banned just because they had been reported by someone unhappy with them.

Although these players actually never do something wrong (which listed in the report reason list in game), so they can take back there game account within few days, the improper use of game report system actually make them trouble and waste a lot of time.

I just want to know, will ANet keep the reporter list, so they can sort out who reported the innocent a lot (e.g. >50% reported are innocent), and give these improper user an alert? Or some proper punish? Or indicated he / she as untrusted reported?

Be nice to people that play the game and you won’t have to worry about it. If someone is mean to another player for no reason they deserve a ban IMO. I think a lot of these nasty players have left that other old game that has such nonexistent monitoring and thought they could come here and to other games and act like that.

This isn’t Blizzard and I can’t think of any other mmo that allows the behavior they allow.

Oh nobody worry. I’m sure Anet will add more emotes down the line. Like the Air guitar, and Air drums, and uh ,crap, what was the others….OH! the kazoo!…no wait that wasn’t it.

ANYWHO all we need to do is have faith and hope and Sanity. UNfortunately, I lost all those so…someone else has to have all those…or just 2/3 will do just fine.

Unless Anet intends on selling the Air for our guitars, drums, and Kazoo then we got a problem.

oohhhh you just reminded me of the aeroplane bug we had in the betas!

I would pay any amount of money for that, and air guitar now that you mention it

what we need is more instruments so we can play a show, have a huge dance and some air guitar spamming.

I can just see it now…. the Baby Quaggans / Princess Dolls tours Tyria- starting at LA and coming to a city near you.
Soon

I would play my Ele again if they added a pink Barbie car convertible mount for Asuras. Can you imagine how awesome it would be to race through Orr in a Barbie car?

An MMO Formula that works

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Drew.1865

Drew.1865

A feel mysrlf time and time again, craving more from this mmo, as well as others, if you are like me, you may find phsycological peace with this thread.

There is a big disconnect with todays MMO’s, let me sak you, where did you meet your clan? Do you feel like you actually need them? In some cases yes, but thats not the point im trying to make, but the thought matters, so keep reading while its f.resh in your head

Take a moment, and think back to your first approach to an MMO, where you playing with others? most likely yes, when you think MMO, you assume you will spend every moment of the game interacting with other players in some way. Anything you do, you want it to make a difference.

Is this possible? In guild wars, the answer is no, unless you are playing pvp, anything you do will just blend in with the rest of the envinment, and in the end, your actions made no change in the big scheme of things, in fact, most people will agree they would not be interested in completing a so called dynamic event mor ethan twice a day.

So, the equation is simple

P(2)=m/p=p(10)

P=players
M=mobs

Here, let me put it in words now tha you know how serious i am.

lets say the moment you approach lost shores, you see a village, an abandoned village. In the universe of guild wars, you stick to your allegiance (race), in this situation, you are a human. The town has a single leazon that works to send a message to each faction (Race) based on territory control, REAL control.

in order to gain control, you have to clear out said mobs (see equation) which are far too powerfull to take on alone, and act as a party of their own. The only way to win, is to set up camp in a particular spot. The longer you hold that area, the more local mobs that come to your location. If the camp holds strong long enough, the camp will become part of a percentage.

Percentage of your factions camps and the amount of mobs they have killed (which also clears the path for other players to traverse, making a difference) then goes to determine what land belongs to that faction.

For example, if lost shores belongs to the humans, then the humans get a shop there, which is stocked exclusively by the humans and works much like a local auction house, allowing a compitition free trade envirnment based on player work, rather than gold farmers who sit at the action house all day manipulating the item exchange. Humans also get local discounts on npc items like salvaging kits ect.

Each area owned grants a unique buff to all players of the faction, exp bonus, karma bonus, gold gain bonus, or stat bonuses.

So, instead of ariving at lost shores in its current dull state. You would be greeted by several members of your faction (race) who would gladly take you into thier pary, regardless of gear, skill, or relation. In this type of MMO, any player can help make a difference. No more worrying about being rejected or required to research a boss fight firsthand. Just come in, learn as you go, create clans of friends you actually get to play with without being rejected, and creating a competitive pve scene

Thank you for reading, please post your thoughts. No suggestions please, just say wheather you like it or not, thanks!

I really have no idea what I just read but I think you are saying this game is to solo for you. I never played this game alone and my guild always did things together so I think you just need to find a good guild. There are good guilds and lots of nice people that play this game. Find a good and active guild and you will enjoy any mmo a lot more than playing it solo.

Vayne, I think the issue is, why do you feel so compelled to give “the other side of the story” so often?

The better question is why people love to point out his white knight-ness.

It boggles me. It’s not good argumentation. Just because the speaker is biased, doesn’t make his points less valid. And posters constantly perpetuate this logical fallacy. If you are actually serious about serious discussion, this combined with all the hyperbole and outright lies will of course annoy you.

I love when people use the word hyperbole in a forum. It reminds me of the biggest fanboi I’ve ever seen on an mmo forum that defends Tortanic in many posts there and most of that forum community just ignores that persons comments.

I consider Anet to be a pretty slimy company as are all the mmo companies that turn kids into gamblers but selling emotes and clothes in the cash shop are what they should have done a long time ago instead of using RNG in everything. Now if the emotes are bought with RNG chests it’s typical Korean mmo behavior but if you can pick them out of the shop for a price I see no issue with it.

During an early wave of bot bans a handful of accounts were caught by mistake, it takes a few days to sort the real appeals from the botters hoping to slip back in… but the explosion of angry posts in the Support forum and elsewhere made it look like Anet was performing brain surgery with a chainsaw. If more than a dozen people were to be affected by something like this, the kittenstorm on the forums would make you think that thousands were affected.

Unless you arena Anet employee you have no idea how Anet manages the game. I know I’m not an employee so I have no idea but maybe you work for them and have knowledge we don’t have? If you do please find out for us :-)

Because it would be against the rules. The only times that they would remove items would be if they were gotten by hacking the game and even then they would outright ban you instead of taking you stuff. If you’re stupid enough to think that a company would do this then you should probably stop playing MMOs.

Lol, I’d love to see how the naysayers in this thread would act if their stuff got taken, or worse yet, if they got robbed. I’m sure they would all be patient and understanding.

If you think running to the forums without any actual facts and complaining like a little crybaby is actually a mature way to handle things such as this, clay, well I’ve lost a lot of respect for you.

Did you ever have any? I think it is quite acceptable to point out that there is a very good chance that ANet, again, screwed someone out of their stuff in some convoluted anti-bot measure.

It doesn’t even matter if it will get resolved or not, it is ridiculous to be complacent with it happening to begin with.

If you get locked up in jail for something you didn’t do, would you not be upset? I understand it’s a game, but it is kind of the same thing.

if this kind of gamebreaking thing was rampant I think we’d here a lot more about it

I don’t think it is and like I said this is only the second time I’ve heard about it. I don’t consider it game breaking but it would kitten me off.

So I log in today and my main is naked, his weapons and armor and any rares are all gone. My money, mats etc are untouched.

At first I thought i was hacked so I ramped up the old Avast antivirus and run a full system scan. Nadda not even one whiff of a trojan, malware, etc nothing.

Then I went to my bank and the stuff from my other toons is still there, money, mats and all.

So let me get this straight, you Arenanet, stripped my main of all his gear, alot of it I got by buying gems FROM YOU,then did a currency exchange WITH YOU to turn the gems into gold to outfit my toon. I used YOUR system the way YOU set it up and you strip me of my stuff for playing by YOU RULES.

I mean seriously WTF is wrong with you guys, I didnt farm that stuff in dungeons,I dont run them so I sure as heck didnt look like a bot.
I dont farm pvp all day either so again, not looking like a bot!

Fix it!

This happened to my GM’s girlfriends toon and Anet did a small rollback which didn’t help and she lost her precursor. I think this might be a bug and not a hack since they told her the account wasn’t hacked.

This could be a possibility, I heard people talkin about this type of thing in game, everyone generally thinks it is Arenanets doing, either by a bug or by seeing real money transactions and thinking it’s an expoit and stripping the gear.

I am not alone in this, they may not be here ranting, but it IS happening.

I have no idea what it is but they didn’t return the items and then ignored her after the small rollback. She stopped playing after that so I have no idea what happened since.

Drop rate qustion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Drew.1865

I have been playing for a while and really haven’t gotten good drops of any sort. This common for some people i am sure but something recently has kinda bugged me. 1 person i know to have not played in the last 3 or so months comes back on one night to run the molten facility dungeon with me and another friend who have been playing. After finishing it he receives the Jetpack from the chest. The night before he had also gotten a weapon skin from his first time in the Super Adventure Box. This Isn’t so bad but the next night my other friend who hasn’t played for just as long of a time plays the dungeon with a friend and i and has the same thing happen. He also gets the Jetpack. Now I’m kind of frustrated and thinking what the heck.

So my question is do you get some kind of unseen bonus to drop rate or chests if you haven’t logged in in a while? Has anyone else had this same kind of experience?

I wouldn’t be surprised and only Anet knows how DR and RNG really works in this game. They nerfed all the drops in November and I noticed all the farming areas were nerfed and the mobs changed so I think drops were nerfed into the ground game wide.

Then one of your friends got hold of your password and pranked you. The one thing that is certain is that Anet did not do this. They don’t play games with people’s accounts, if you broke the rules you’d be suspended or banned, not punk’d.

You have no idea what you’re talking about. This is not the first time I’ve heard of this happening to someone.

Because nerfing the amount of carrots makes you play longer and more and also encourages you to buy gems to buy the drops you no longer get from the TP.

Hello everyone, i would just like to know how would you sell the idea of gw2 to your friends who got nooo idea what the game is about?. Theres so much good stuff in the game that i just cant, I could spend hours upon hours talking about awsome stuff in the game.

Play it for about 3 more months and then decide if you want to get people to play it with you. It took me about 4 months to really see the game for what it is.

So far the top three people on these forums whose opinions I respect are Vayne, tolunart and Tengu. I don’t agree with everything each of them says, but they offer insight and logic with the majority of their comments they make, and their opinions are of value to me. Thank you for that.

Huh. I would put those three on the bottom of my list of people I respect. Not because I almost never agree with them, but because of the know-it-all, snarky attitudes. To each their own, I suppose.

Agreed lol.
Back on topic, I agree with OP. Buffing the underpowered skills is the way to achieve balance, not the other way around.

Agreed lol.

I’m the same way, I would add a few more names to those who are always on the “everything is perfectly fine, don’t actually think for yourselves just believe it’s all for your benefit and move-along” list who show up on every single forum post of late, I’m beginning to wonder if they aren’t hired naysayers who just sit around on forums and post nonsense to confuse the issues.

Agree again lol

Spssh not going to invalidate the statement you are making but i’m pretty sure they’ve lost tons of players (engineers, rangers, necros) over the severe testing problems they create by not having a PTR and as such I highly doubt they’ll ever learn, it’s almost a year now and they still haven’t fixed engineers who have to work three times as hard for everything then any other class.

Sometimes I wonder if it isn’t intended because that’s 3 classes that probably get less rewards which helps the game economy and we all know the part of the game that must always be balanced.

I don’t think it’s about repetition. I could cycle through every dungeon/fractals which is technically non-repetitive but it’d be extremely boring. I think the truth is that GW2’s PvE is basically boring because it trades depth for accessibility. I’ve only been playing WvW and sPvP for months.

It’s like dating a hot blonde. It’s nice to look at but extremely stupid and shallow :-)

GW2’s PvE being boring is I think just from the mechanics of combat and not the repetitiveness. If combat itself is fun, you can spend 1000+ hours and never get bored, I had that in other games. In GW2 though, people may defend the action-oriented easy-accessible combat all they like, but I can’t even play GW2’s PvE for 1 hour without getting bored of killing every mob in exactly the same way.

But they invented dodging! Omg dodging is so fun.
