To explain further: A while back I decided to start covering some music from SAB. I did one song, Josh Foreman and Lena Chappelle found it and liked it, and then Josh said I should do another specific track. And then I did. And then another. And then I turned it into a sort of running thing, “Hardcore Adventure Box”. The idea was to eventually create a short metal cover album highlighting each world as they released.

I don’t know the exact timeline on this next part because I’m not technically an ArenaNet employee, but around the time they decided to turn HAB into a yearly festival, they also reached out to me and asked if they could add my covers to the game (which was both very exciting and also puzzling, considering the musical aesthetic of the game so far). And then it happened.

The Wiki actually kinda does reference the covers a bit in the entry for the Shard of Duskk. Or rather, it mentions me. (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Shard_of_Duskk)

At long last, I have finished metal covers of the rest of the entire Super Adventure Box soundtrack! Hardcore Adventure Box: The Lost Tribulation Mode Sessions consists of the 10 pieces from the original SAB release that I didn’t do then.

Shortly after the first two HAB releases were added to the Super Adventure Festival content release as in-game music, many people asked me to create metal covers of the remaining pieces of the soundtrack. So I did!

Hope you guys enjoy, and say “hi” to the Tribulation Clouds for me when the Festival rolls around again in a couple of months!

Stuff happens. I have no doubt they tried to get the patch out today, and props to them for working overtime to make sure it’s out tomorrow.

Major power outages are more than just “oh hey, the lights are out for a bit” at game studios. Servers go offline, code set to compile overnight doesn’t finish, all sorts of stuff happens. It could have been a lot worse than a patch getting pushed out a day.

New year, still here! I decided to kick this year of music off by completely re-creating my 2015 arrangement, “Heroes of Tyria”, entirely from scratch using my new skills and tools.

I know this is generally a place for posting finished works and not necessarily for posting about upcoming stuff, so I hope I’m not breaking any rules.

If you follow me on Twitter, you may have seen that I recently announced production on a new Hardcore Adventure Box album.

Hardcore Adventure Box: The Lost Tribulation Mode Sessions will consist of 10 tracks I didn’t cover in the last two releases.

This, of course, means I need album art. So I’m seeking an album artist.

Like last time, it’ll be a paid gig; The artist will receive $30 USD, or 30% of the first month’s donations after the album’s release, whichever is higher. The artist will also be tipped based on caliber of the final piece.

I usually give artists free reign to create whatever they like, but in this piece, there will be some requirements:

• Incorporate a Guild Wars 2 character into the artwork using a screenshot from the game
• Create basic typography for the album title (”Hardcore Adventure Box: The Lost Tribulation Mode Sessions”)
• Deliver a final piece meeting or exceeding the quality standards set by the artwork for the previous two Hardcore Adventure Box releases

A while back — right before my trip to ANet, in fact — I had an idea for a concept piece for a track that would play as you enter the ruins of Scarlet Briar’s twisted marionette. I wanted it to be haunting, like visiting the site of a tragedy. I took a minimalist approach, with the echoes of machinery and even Scarlet herself peppered throughout.

I’ve been busy with other stuff, but I had a a break between work and other projects, so I finally managed to sit down last night and bring that concept to life. Hope you enjoy it!

A treasure hunter with a rogue sailor aesthetic was the perfect chance for me to go all Bryan Tyler and do a pirate-inspired theme for the character. It’s still largely “classical” in its instrumentation to fit the theme of the game, but I made it unique and fitting to the character in a multitude of ways; a combination of fast-paced violas, cinema-style Mahler hammer samples, a solo violin I tried for a long time to get anywhere close to “fiddle” articulations, and a live-played acoustic guitar all add up to a very fitting character theme for a Tyrian treasure hunter.

This marks the final character theme I’ll be choosing for Second Wave. I’ll be taking a break from composing other peoples’ characters’ themes for a while while I work on bonus tracks for the album release and other projects. Third Wave will be happening eventually though, so post your character if you want a shot!

So recently, I made the character that Keenan Sieg sorta created to explain my metal covers being in SAB. I decided to mark the occasion with my first foray into the extremely intuitive GW2 Music Box tool created by proteininja, and “Sunny Glade” seemed like a logical fit, as that was the first SAB track I did a metal cover of.

A little bit of skill lag, especially during the first half, but a decent take overall.

A norn huntress with an affinity for the wild gave me the perfect opportunity to create an orchestral piece inspired by the Heart of Thorns soundtrack. I wanted it to feel primal, and I achieved that through surprisingly non-ethnic means; rototoms, sticks, and timpani were used throughout the piece to give it a sort of “jungle percussion” feel. With each loop, I wanted to present the feeling of stalking prey, striking, and the ensuing chase or battle.

I’ve been looking at doing this for a long time, and today, it’s finally here; an album of my earlier GW2-inspired orchestral works. The album consists of a remix of the Guild Wars theme and “Fear Not This Night”, seven character themes, and two boss battle concept pieces.

Some of you may have heard a few of these tracks before, but if you haven’t, be sure to check it out!

+1 for the ability to move shared inventory slots to the bottom.

Crashed twice during the assault on Tarir, both within about 10 minutes of each other. Submitted a crash report both times.

Seems to be common, which at least means it should be easily replicated, and hopefully fixed soon.

Something to clarify: Only armor of the same weight class can be transmuted. So using your example, you can transmute Aurora Garb onto Zojja’s Doublet because they’re both light armor, but you can’t transmute it onto Zojja’s Breastplate because the breastplate is heavy armor.

So, a few of you might have heard this about a week ago, so now that it’s kind of been a sort-of Guild Chat exclusive (I made it to celebrate my visit to ANet) for a week, I feel that now’s a good time to put it up on the forums for anyone that missed it.

Pretty straight-forward metal mix with this one. If you like your music heavy, and like Guild Wars 2, you’re probably gonna like this.

Speaking as someone who has the holo shattered wings, I’d love to see them added as a glider as well. I’d probably never use another glider again.

Actually, someone has suggested players be allowed to keep the Shard of Duskk and use it with the existed Super Boom Boxes to play the metal covers. I think it’s kind of a clever idea.

To get back on topic, I definitely support this idea. A little digital holographic Super Adventure Keyboard would be killer.

Oh, I will be too, but it’s completely understandable, and acceptable. Guild Wars 2 didn’t become one of my favorite games because of SAB, and I doubt it’ll stop being one of my favorites if it’s never expanded.

I realized that I hadn’t really taken on a theme for a character with these PTSD-like concepts. So I choose that one mainly for the unique challenge to capture that tone. The whole theme has a steady taiko beat, to create a more “military” impression befitting of a warrior, but without breaking the somber mood set by the strings. The tremolo violas in the bridge after the melody/counter-melody section reflect the permanent mental scarring on Rosja’s mind as a result of Mordremoth’s call.

I will be taking a short break after this piece — a month or two — for reasons I can’t go into quite yet, but I will be continuing this project eventually. Characters posted during that time will still be considered like all others once I get back, so don’t let my break stop you from posting.

The new Shatterer fight is pretty interesting, to say the least. It’s unfortunate, however, that the music is both still the same as before, and still the Charr theme, which is kinda odd to me. So I decided to write what I’d envision a new Shatterer fight track would sound like.

The idea was to give the Shatterer music that would grant the crystal dragon lieutenant its own identity musically, but also one where the overall tone encapsulated a heroic struggle against it.

This track was tricky to write, so much so that I scrapped the first concept for it entirely. The character is a peppy, cheery, jokester necromancer that “looks at the bright side of death” and loves adventure. I set out to take all three of those character aspects and wrap them into a single composition.

The first half of any given loop is the sort of “jokester” side of things. A large ensemble pizzicato and a flute were used to portray a goofy-natured character. Things change up a little bit in the second section of the loop, when I create a more serious-toned chord progression with the strings and add a pipe organ to reflect her necromancer qualities. The french horns and the flute both signify her appetite for adventure in different ways.

I’m actually in agreement as far as the actual length of the flames, especially when stowed. It’s a little too long. I don’t really mind the lighting effect, though.

New theme! This one was created for Erizzi.

The character this theme is for is an Inquest agent in disguise, and that disguise takes the form of both outfit and action. In that way, I tried to create a piece that seemed both unassuming and serene, yet with an underlying sinister tone. I used a lightly-played higher piano and violins to portray a more “calming” side to the character, while also using a solo cello’s upper notes and harshly-played low piano and coupled the overall theme with accidentals that give the entire piece a slightly off-putting tone at parts. As a racial touch, I added pizzicato violins, which for some reason always remind me of the quirky nature of the asura.

First off, my apologies for the sudden absence. I had a big chunk of other projects to work on, and that coupled with a new full-time job halted things quite a bit.

However, I have created a new theme (using a significantly better instrument set, I might add), and plan on doing several more this week using characters currently in this thread. Keep an eye out, and as always, if you want a shot at one, post your character!

Thematically, I wanted to capture the character’s affinity for explosives with a touch of alchemy. With that in mind, I decided to create a more bombastic theme, with a sort of eerie-sounding violin melody to represent alchemy.
