Main Character: Dathius Eventide | Say “hi” to the Tribulation Clouds for me. :)
Bampin’ this. It happened to me yesterday at a very inopportune time. Hope you guys are lookin’ into this; this bug’s been in the game for months.
This could be a wonderful bridging point for ANet to introduce PvP-exclusive skins (maybe rank-based?) and allow people to show off their dedication to PvP in PvE.
Oh man, I was just thinking the same thing, noticing that the guy in the flashy gem store skin was out-DPSing me when we were wailing on Frost a couple of days ago in CM.
Okay, I couldn’t type that with a straight face.
Good feature, I say.
And this is why ANet doesn’t even take “endgame”-minded players seriously; there’s not even a consensus on what “endgame” actually is.
XD

Any answer to the title other than “because there wasn’t intended to be any ‘endgame’, and that’s okay” comes solely from uninformed consumers.
I don’t buy that. Who ever said that there would be no end game? You’d be stretching to even say it was hinted at.
Not really. The pre-release ANet blog posts showed us exactly what we were getting, and even inspired other bloggers to summarize months before the game released because they knew that the lack of endgame would be a hard pill to swallow for typical MMO gamers still stuck in old conventions.

People are still buying this game without learning about it first. Amazing.
As for “skinwars” that was sort of the point
This. This right here. If you bought the game expecting a typical MMORPG “endgame” or endless stat progression and are somehow shocked that GW2 doesn’t have that, it’s as logical as buying Street Fighter IV and being shocked that there’s no eight-way run.
Learn about the games you plan to buy before you buy them, people.
I see a lot of complaining, and absolutely no suggestions.
There have been suggestions for years man, what are you reading?
His post. There are no suggestions in it. Just a bunch of complaining.
I see a lot of complaining, and absolutely no suggestions.
I noticed it reset for me as well, but additionally, the game refuses to give it to me if I do it again.
I’m asking this question all over the place because I kinda need an answer soon; it directly affects my “Rock the Nightmare” submission.
Is the name of the track “The Nightmare Within” or “The Nightmares Within”? Right now, the contest info page says its the latter, but the upload on SoundCloud says it’s the former.
skyrim/wow music
Funny you should mention that…
ITT people criticize loading screens while understanding nothing about GW2’s engine or networking system.
I do something like that every now and then. There are days where I’ll just pick a spot and start walking. Last time I did that, I started from Morgan’s Spiral, did the two jumping puzzles, and then just walked through Caledon, Brisban, Kessex, and Gendarran back to LA, doing DEs as I came across them.
I am so sorry that a simple observation regarding metrics, while trying to avoid criticizing any aspect of gameplay provoked such an angry and visceral response from you. I do apologize.
I’m not angry, just annoyed. If anything, it’s my fault: I keep forgetting that literally every game forum out there is riddled with kinds of people I’m talking about.
I feel like it varies. I main a high toughness character, and in any given CM p1 run, I cannot shake Frost. Contrarily, I’ve noticed some other bosses prefer to go after the heavy damage dealers.
They are making rewards suck more and more in every aspect of the game to the point where i will soon stop bothering to log in to this game.
Between me and my fiance, I’d estimate around $60-$80. I remember recently I swung $20 in donations for Hardcore Adventure Box: World 1 back in the form of $20 in gems ($10 for me, $10 for my fiance). It’s a bit fuzzy how many gems I’ve bought before that.
Metrics are a false measurement without context.
In Theory, If DHS used pure numbers without context, they could claim that Citizens “enjoy” body searches due to the numbers that consent to them by ignoring the fact that those searches are connected to what is actually desired. Air Travel.
In actual practice, the current administration pointed at the number of hits on the Affordable Health Care website as “proof” of the popularity of the Act.. without bringing up there is kinda this “law” compelling people to do so.
Raw numbers without context are pretty meaningless.
What a daft comparison.
The difference is that playing Guild Wars 2 isn’t mandatory. It’s a video game. You don’t have to play it. Most anyone will only play a video game they enjoy it, or at least some part of it. It really takes a certain kind of person to stick around and play a video game they don’t like only to add points to their fedora score, and I’d describe what kind of person that is in detail, but I’d likely get infracted for it.
Even the people going “yeah, I do things I don’t enjoy so I can get the shiny at the end” omit that they play the game they “don’t like” to reach something that they do enjoy (the reward, sense of fulfillment, whatever), thus negating their point almost entirely.
In this context, it seems ArenaNet is evaluating their data pretty well. People are enjoying at least some part of the game when they log on, whether it’s the gameplay (like I do), or as I described it earlier, the primitive addiction euphoria.
So yeah, a word of advice to everyone playing a game they “don’t like”: If you don’t like the game, don’t stick around and muddy the issue. You don’t have to play. Go outside, do something productive, because at this point, just about any activity is more productive than playing a game you apparently hate, and then coming to the forums day after day, hours at a time, complaining about how much you hate the game.

The piece of fabric that hangs along the character’s left side of the Phalanx Legplates clips with the leg model underneath it slightly while standing, especially during certain idle standing animations, and when returning from running to a standing position.
I have a hard time getting the timing right for screenshots of this issue, so hopefully you have enough info to repro. Character is a human male.
Hilarious that people still think that just because they’re masochistic enough to play a game they don’t enjoy simply because it fires off some primitive addiction euphoria somehow means everyone is like that. Thankfully, ANet knows better.
There are, what, three, maybe four sets of armor per armor class in the gem store, compared to 34 armor sets per armor class if we account for any given character only being able to acquire one of the three Order armor sets (35 if you have HoM armor, 37 total in the game) that can be acquired in-game. By no means is armor in the cash shop “rampant”, nor is there a “huge lack of armor in-game”.
I gave my guardian an update recently.
Why are people like the OP buying games without learning about them first?
I could never go back to a trinity system in any MMO after playing GW2. I nearly lost all interest in EQN when I heard that they may have a trinity system. I’d almost certainly stop playing GW2 entirely if they backtracked and implemented a trinity.
If anything, you could try recording your own. Boot up some video capture software, turn off the music, and record away.
Really, the only way you could possibly be hearing “the same 5 tracks” and nothing else is if you’re not exactly playing a diverse selection of content.
It heals only you. Only condition cleansing is AoE.
The primary heal is only you. There’s a secondary heal that occurs per condition removed, which also heals others. At 481 healing per condition, it can come really close to the primary healing amount of 1.3k if a party member has three conditions.
I was going to shell out the 120g or so for T3 cultural, but instead, I bought 800 gems with gold, which ran me about 57g. Gem store armor is within your reach, arguably more so than some armors in the game. If you’re not willing to pull out your debit card (or your parents’, judging from some of the comments in here), then play the game and get some gold.
The OST isn’t handled through any merch shop run by ANet, nor NCSoft. It’s handled exclusively by DirectSong, Jeremy Soule’s company, and DirectSong is renowned for its slow turnaround and customer service issues, as you’re discovering first-hand.
I believe that a lot of people who dislike Guild Wars 2 and still linger around on the forums do so because they wait to see if it becomes the game ArenaNet originally advertised.
It is the game they originally advertised. The people making post after post, hour after hour, day after day about how “terrible” the game is are the ones that want to turn it into something it wasn’t advertised to be; either into GW 1.5, or WoW 2. These people misinterpret interviews and videos (you’d need to make some serious stretches to insist that the game in the Manifesto video isn’t the game we had at launch and continue to have now), they completely forget how iterative development works or simply pretend it was never a factor in GW2’s pre- and post-launch development, or they just had preconceptions about the MMO genre or Guild Wars and bought the game without learning about it before hand.
Their disappointment really is their own fault, and any reasonable person would move on instead of doing absolutely nothing with their day other than making post after post on this forum about how “bad” the game is.
A while ago, you noted that the Kiel vs. Gnashblade vote was the “tip of the iceberg”, so to speak, in regards to how Living Story would be a gameplay-driven vehicle in which players could change the world. I’d like to see more of that, because while the Living World offerings have been pretty fun and engaging, none of it — neither the story, nor what gets left behind — has been in any way shaped by the players’ actions.
I’d like to see that change sooner rather than later. I know such ideas are hard to coordinate and implement, but surely by now you must have ideas.
Not that the dragons have ever been a major part of any Living World offering aside from a festival referencing their existence (please tell me Dragon Bash is a yearly event, btw!), and with good reason that some people here seem to forget: The war against the dragons is primarily relegated to the Personal Story. But in the months leading up to the next major campaign release to engage against the next elder dragon, I feel there should be a Living World build-up where, across a long period of time and several Living Story installments, the players actively engage in the turning of Orr. This could create a more leveling-friendly zone akin to the others, and by permanently changing the temples, that could reduce the number of major events happening during the next major installment of the game; events that could otherwise result in a fracturing of the player base or, more likely, events that simply don’t get done.
I wouldn’t be buying any of Anet’s future products after this game. Sorry, the truth may hurt some of you, but I would rather play “Hello Kitty Online” for half an hour than play Guild Wars 2 for 5 more minutes. It just has way too many things wrong with it.
Yep. These people are still here. Hilarious.
Tequatl can be both an exhilarating and frustrating experience. That said, when he reaches half his health or some other reasonable milestone he should just fly away as any reasonable, sane, intelligent dragon would do.
Well then it’s a good thing it’s just a mindless minion of Zhaitan.
My two cents: Leave scaling as is. Instead, change the mechanic by which it spawns. Instead of being on a hard timer between fights, put the fight at the end of a meta-event that could quickly be completed by a large group. This way, it’s not instanced content and remains accessible in the open world to any passerby, but it’s also organized content that a large group could plan for and jump right into without waiting around a beach for him to attack.
This encounter has fallen off to about 5% completion in the past 5 days across all servers.

Jeremy Soule’s contractual obligations at ArenaNet are done. He stated shortly before the game’s release on his Facebook page that he won’t be composing any more for Guild Wars 2 or any future Guild Wars games/content releases. Maclaine Diemer and Leif Chappelle are handling all music for the foreseeable future, as far as I’m aware.
Something I feel should be added: Maclaine and Leif have been putting “actual composed music”, by your definition, into the game since they took over a year ago. See Bazaar of the Four Winds, Dragon Bash, and even the Halloween update running right now for more info. Really, the only “electronic/synth” stuff they’ve been putting out are the dance holo music and SAB.

A bit late with this, as I don’t lurk in the audio forum nearly as much as I should, but thanks for posting this here. Glad you enjoyed it.
I inspired someone to do VGM arrangements? Day: Made.
These are freakin’ fantastic, btw.
Can we get tablatures for the songs for SAB metal version? like on Ultimate Guitar? some of us want to play as well!
Heyo, I’m the guy who did those covers.
I actually don’t tab any of my tracks, but the SAB covers are really not all that hard to figure out. All of the songs are played in drop-C. Mostly power chords for the rhythm sections, and I’m definitely not the world’s greatest lead guitarist either. xD I generally followed the original tracks pretty closely, so if you have a hard time figuring out my versions by ear, going back to the originals might help.

I honestly find it difficult to believe you’re a “twelve year MMO vet” when you’re saying stuff like “I rarely see anyone in the zones I am adventuring in”, as if that same problem doesn’t exist with just about every MMORPG out there.
Had all the party been zerker, not 2 or 3 players, no one would have died. The foes would perish first.
And yet, I never hear about these Aetherpath zerker speedruns. Interesting.
No reason to laugh at zerkers going down in melee, while you stay ranged with your PTV/AH.
I don’t use AH, and I’m in melee right there in them. Knight’s armor, soldier trinks, zerker greatsword, and a still-respectable amount of damage. The difference between me and the zerkers on the ground is that I’m actually making that red bar go down. This, of course, with your typical boss lovin’ on me somethin’ fierce with my high toughness.
I’d love to see official controller support. I wouldn’t use it, personally, but there’s really no downside at all to more control options in a game like this.
Except they’re actually carrying you because without their DPS the fight would go on for longer, leaving more room for error, leaving more time to faceplant. You’re contributing nothing by using defensive stats, it makes you a leech.
Tell me more about how those zerkers are doing more damage on the ground than I am during my uptime. I’ll just be here, laughing.
Zerker is used to clear Arah, Fractal 48 and Fractal 79.
Oh, more examples. Sweet. Until zerker is considered the “meta” for literally 100% of the content in the game, or even half, it’s still a moot point.
If you make it harder for zerkers to speed run it, you make it 4x harder for your average PUG to run it. Please think before you type.
Numbers pulled out of thin air, completely unrationalized. Nice. You should really take your own advice on that last bit.
Prioritising the most wanted item in the game shouldn’t be THAT tough. >_<
That’s a mighty kittenumption ya got there, sugarcube.
or an cost extreme amount of gold via crafting?
If you take the time to get your own mats, like I did, it doesn’t cost all that much.
There was an interview with the game director in which he stated that players crashed into the power plateau much faster than anyone had anticipated.
That is a lie Anet told to justify the new stat grind. Please refer to the following quote:
“Everyone, including casual gamers, by level 80 should have the best statistical loot in the game. We want everyone on an equal power base.” – Colin, Eurogamer, September 2011.
They also said a lot of things around that time, and even after, that ended up getting cut. Their stance on iterative development, however, has always remained consistent. Colin’s original vision for “best statistical loot at 80” went the way of the NPC companions before it and energy potions afterward. When a game company embraces iterative development, stuff’s gonna change.
The intent behind his statement, the goal for that original design, hasn’t changed. All of the game’s content can be done successfully upon reaching level 80. You don’t need best in slot for anything. It’ll make your day a bit easier, sure, but it’s not required.

Call me a “bad” for running in PVT or knight’s, but when I’m carrying zerkers through Aetherpath watching them try that “uber DPS” from downed state, I can’t help but not take people like some of you guys seriously when you say there’s no reason to run anything else.
It’s an utter myth that “all content is best played in zerker”. You guys just constantly play only content where zerker’s good; CoF P1, AC p1 or 3, etc., and as a result, you end up failing at content where that pure zerker DPS-only playstyle doesn’t help you as much. And then end up just never doing it. Or end up coming to the forums to claim that ArenaNet’s somehow bad at game design because they had the audacity to create content that’s not geared toward your preferred “meta”.
Oh man, could you imagine if ArenaNet did major overhauls to their common “speedrun” dungeon paths to make it harder for zerkers to speedrun it and encourage varied gameplay? The outrage would be amazing, the elitist tears absolutely delicious.
