It’s also worth mentioning that the lower the zone level is compared to your character level, the higher drop rates for dyes are. Want to color your character or make some bank selling dyes? Wander around a starting area for a while as a level 80.
Is that because you’re a higher level, or is it because those mobs have a higher chance of dropping dye’s? Or maybe it’s your ability to kill more mobs quicker.
I’m pretty sure it’s because I’m higher level. There’s really no difference in my clear speed when doing a lower-level zone when compared to one of my level, but every time I finish 100%‘ing a low-level zone, I end up with 5 or so new dyes, while leaving with no dyes is a common occurrence for 100%’ing an area that’s around my level.
Sure, teammates should help out, but if I spec and gear for toughness and vitality, but the mobs ignore me most of the time, it seems a wasted effort. Not asking for a tank role or taunts, just asking for mobs to spread the love (or some better understanding of aggro mechanics).
As far as I know, and I’m trying to remember an ANet post from over a year ago, a mob is more likely to attack a player if he’s closer, wearing heavier armor, doing more damage, and using some form of control on it.
This may have changed since then, but from my experience, it hasn’t; if I jump in a group with leap of faith and chain all the mobs over to me, I’m suddenly the center of attention. Happens every time.
My favorite bit about all the trinity lovers is that they go “y u remove trinity everything’s zerg now”, completely ignoring the fact that a trinity made raids in WoW more zerg than anything in GW2.
I guess they didn’t expect anyone to hit the cap. Hell, there’s no way I would have.
It would help if mobs didn’t tend to focus one person the entire fight. There’s only so many escape abilities/dodges before you either kite or face tank the mob.
your teammates are suppose to be using their control affects on the mobs too. Not just you. They are being bad teammates if they aren’t.
This.
And yeah, sorry, but the lack of the trinity was probably the single biggest selling point for this game for me. This is stuff we knew about for three years, Cheetahman. Learn about the game you’re buying before you buy it next time.

It’s been suggested by a number of people since the first BWE… add some kind of RAID frame. A medium sized grouping mechanic for up to 20-25 people that show groups, player health bars, unique colored raid dots on map and the ability to assist targets.
Yeah, more UI clutter when we should be watching the gameplay. That’s exactly what we need.
A lot of these issues other people are having sound like bugs.
Maybe, but the bugs are exacerbated by the fact that they took all my skills away.
If you have suggestions about how those skills might be able to work underwater, feel free to post them in Suggestions or your profession forums.
I like underwater combat.
Me too.
A lot of these issues other people are having sound like bugs.
It wouldn’t be so annoying if it was actually reflected when trying to sell something, so it shows you the TRUE value you’re getting when selling something. =/
I definitely agree with this. Wouldn’t be too hard to implement either, I’d imagine.
You know he won’t accept it though.
We’ll wait and see. Consider it his test of reasonableness. He’ll either recognize that his viewpoint was based more on ignorance than anything else and change it, or he’ll continue his belief despite strong evidence that it’s wrong.
Either way, the point’s been made, and anyone with any lack of bias will accept the fact that all this doom-and-gloom “the game is dead” crap is completely false.
I can’t believe nobody addressed this.
It goes both ways! Show me the zones are packed thread and a net announcing selling 3~4million copies and all of the new servers they added.
GW2 sold 1 million before launch and had over 400k concurrent users. ANet added 3 European worlds and 3 US worlds to compensate (check the pre-release server list and compare it with the server list in-game). They broke 2 million sales earlier this month. By comparison, Mists of Pandaria has yet to break 1 million post launch, and there is no word anywhere about what its pre-order numbers look like, so it’s very likely that it undersold compared to GW2.
But none of this info really says anything about what the population is right now. What does, though, are the still-sky-high WvW queue times and LA overflows.
But what about the population drop? Here’s some more cool news. According to those Xfire graphs we’re all linking, WoW’s post-MoP’s population numbers are seeing a sharper decline than GW2’s. Twice as fast, actually (4% for GW2 compared to WoW’s 8%) and their peak for Xfire users was also smaller than GW2’s by nearly 30,000.
Anyone consider RIFT dead? Because according to those lovely Xfire graphs, GW2 even at its lowest point has over 20 times the population of RIFT.
The moral of this post? If you’re going to use Xfire graphs to attempt to make some point that “GW2’s dying,” don’t hold a double-standard; because according to that logic, RIFT’s dead and WoW’s dying faster.
Now to wait until someone insists that my thought-out argument backed by verifiable facts is nothing more than rabid fanboyism because they themselves are incapable of a logical counter-argument.

“That, soldier, is a threat! See ya!”
ShirenYou give no specific examples of the kinds of unbased criticism the game is getting from people.
The whole “game’s dead already” stuff people keep posting is a good example. Xfire shows tens of thousands of Xfire users playing per day, most server pops are still either full or high, WvW queues are full constantly, LA overflows are happening more often than not, yet people still insist on claiming the game is dying.
Zoridium had a good idea, though it wouldn’t change anyone’s minds. Unreasonable people are unreasonable people. That’s really the bottom line.
@Dusk did you play at GW2 launch? Zones were packed to the max people were everywhere. Fast forward to today and your lucky to get a hand full of people to show up to events in the 1 to 70 zones.
I played from headstart. Zones were packed because everyone was just starting the game. These people eventually spread out. If you really think that you were going to constantly get stuck in overflows forever and seeing countless super-zergs per event forever, you’re daft.
The game isn’t empty. I see other players constantly. Every event I’ve done, every single one, at least one person has been there with me. Just because you want to believe so badly that the game is bad and dead because of it simply because you don’t like it doesn’t make it so. You’re deluding yourself. People are in the game right now, in the tens of thousands, possibly over 100k, enjoying the game. Deal with it.
But as a software engineering major, I can make some pretty educated guesses.
And Rift is still as much dynamic as Guild Wars 2, even if it has traditional quests.
I guess I’ll never know, seeing as it’s a sub-fee MMO and I refuse to play any sub-fee MMO on principle. But that doesn’t change the fact that people are severely underestimating what it takes to fix some issues in this game. There is no auto-fix-it button, despite what many seem to believe.
Since your such a expert you tell me what killed sales.
Since you’re such an expert, tell us where you’re getting this crap about sales being dead.
silencerThe hitboxes are fine.
They really aren’t some of the time.
Since you haven’t worked on either game, you have no way of knowing.
But as a software engineering major, I can make some pretty educated guesses.
The game is 5 weeks out why are not all servers full?
Because that literally has never happened during any MMORPG release. Ever.
Oh wait, I can name a recent MMORPG release where all the servers filled up in less than a week and they had to add new servers to compensate. It’s called Guild Wars 2.
For me, GW2 has had more amusing story and voice content by far. I cannot even remember all the times I laughed, smiled, chuckled at some of the great lines and even just some side commentary from an NPC.
Oh man, there was this bit about Jade statues when you’re taunting some White Mantle that nearly made me fall out of my chair.
it also could mean that ANets programming is more complex.
A lot of people aren’t going to understand how this could be possible. But it really is.
Dude, you can’t just go about the forums posting pictures that prove the whole “this game is dying” argument wrong. You’re gonna rustle some Jimmies.
Hoe come GW2 doesn’t have a customer service line you can call then?
Because it’s not necessary.
The sales of the game, the excellent reviews and the number of happy players of GW2 paint the true story.
Nope. Not at all. Only the forums are a reliable picture of the state of the game. Nothing else.
-Complainer logic
80 here. These other guys didn’t know what they were buying. If you did, you’ll be fine at 80 and still having a blast.
People don’t go from praising the game and saying its the best thing since sliced bread to saying the game is total trash, Anet sucks yada yada yada unless you give them a reason to.
But most of those reasons end up being “Ah mai gawd endgame is different” or “Ah mai gawd there’s no tank/heal/dps” or “Ah mai gawd the skills aren’t exactly like GW1” or “Ah mai gawd dungeons are too hard” or “Ah mai gawd nightcapping” or “Ah mai gawd, I can’t sit in one spot and tap 1 repeatedly for infinite money/mats anymore”.
Not exactly valid reasons imo.
It was a pretty widely-reported story. Here’s an article about it.
Basically, between 2004-2008, WoW cost $200 million to run. This includes all associated costs; server upkeep, GMs, software development including wages, the whole shebang. In that same period, Blizzard made over $440 million during that same time period in box sales alone.
Since then, those upkeep costs have been lowered according to SEC filings. That $15 a month is quite literally free money for execs and shareholders; not a dime of it is needed for the costs most people claim it’s used for.
If that’s the case, I’m intrigued. I’d like to know what this sword is too. Definitely sounds like something I’d want.
robotCriticism causes some people to get defensive.
As if any post with positivity isn’t met with the same reaction.
There are no such threads.
ROFL
You gotta be trollin’. Dude, nearly every single comment with positivity towards this game is met with “ur a fanboy” or some other such swill. It’s in nearly every thread.
Should I give you some examples? There are tons on the first page alone. " The “This game killed wow” thread in particular is full of ’em.
The payment model really has nothing to do with it. The whole $15 a month actually pays for stuff" argument is a myth, debunked four or so years ago and still remains so to this day.

I think you’re talking about one of the dungeon exotics. Can’t remember which one. Hit up LA and talk to each of the dungeon vendors, and look at each greatsword offered.
To me, ‘Fanboy’ is the new Godwin’s law.
Too true.
Look, I get it. There are people so in love with this game that they will throw reason to the wind and completely support certain aspects of the game that are broken. Really broken. But there’s a difference between those people and people who, like me, enjoy the game and simply see flaws in many people’s criticism of the game.
When you insist that any reasonable argument in favor of many of the things being criticized (DR system, combat, dungeon design, etc) is nothing more than fanboyism, your argument is the one that loses all credibility because you’re essentially resorting to framing.
Disagreement is fine. Calling someone who voices an intelligent opinion opposite to your own a “fanboy” or “white knight” isn’t.
And I never used the word fanboy up until DusK went a little crazy.
I’d also like this mental fanboyism to dry up as quickly as I’d like to see the people out to make a mockery of the game disappear.
I’m sorry, you were saying?
Uh, Ronin, you made a post about how a lot of “fanboys” are doing the same damage to this game’s image as the smear campaign, I made a post noting that many people being accused of fanboys are not actually fanboys but are instead explaining the holes in many hater arguments, and you accused my post of being some example of what you were talking about.
Do you even realize that you proved my point by insisting that my rational, thought-out comment was an “unecessary reaction”? I guess a better question would be, how could you not realize it?
Oh look, I presented a reasonable viewpoint and I’m being called a fanboy.
Now who’s point is proven again?
The hitboxes kinda need to be adjusted on a case-by-case basis. The best thing you could do to help them along with this is to submit a bug report explaining the problem for each DE or heart where these objects are involved, and doing so in the general area where they’re located.
Looks like someone didn’t read anything ANet said about this game over the past three years and expected to be playing GW 1.5.
Most of the people the GW2 haters on this forum accuse of giving “unreasonable and unquestioning love” are simply people pointing out flaws in their arguments. I get accused of such “rampant fanboyism” pretty often simply for presenting a reasonable disagreement to what is more often than not unjustified hate towards the game.
I guess the moral of this story is that, if someone hates the game, don’t explain why their viewpoint’s wrong, or “ur a rabid fanboi”.
Hey Evil. Think it might be a good idea to chill out with all that hyperbole?
It’s a bug. They’ve acknowledged it as such. Check the dev tracker, the post about it should be in the last few pages or so.
Go do something else other than farm.
Rawr, who are you to tell people how to play, bla bla ANet are a bunch of Nazis etc etc.
Some long post that boils down to that is coming, just wait and see.
Dusk ole buddy still waiting for a server, or you can come to mine Blackgate. I’m very curious as how you’re skipping DR and making a profit would love to be taught your method. Vent is up and awaiting.
What else could I possibly explain though? I mean seriously. Don’t sit at Pentinent all day. Move around. Do different DE’s. This has been proven to work. You don’t need me in vent to hold your hand.
My server’s Yak’s Bend, btw, and I have two active guilds on that server, so I’m not goin’ anywhere.
6. Holy Trinity – still exists somewhat. People actually like healing and tank roles still and they still do them in this game. Groups still ask for them. I’ve seen it quite a bit in chat actually.
I love seeing this in chat. They might as well say “Group of baddies LF1M baddie to zerg/deathrun a dungeon.”
So what will you do when you hit 100%?
Also, what if you at some point want a legendary weapon or new exotic set after that point?
I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it. One carrot at a time.
SundialCare to enlighten us how you play GW2? Because the way I play it I stop getting kitten for loot after even just half an hour.
I bounce around a lot. I’m trying to get my 100%, so a lot of my time is spent slowly sweeping areas, doing DE’s and they come, filling hearts, finding vistas, doing skill challenges… Like 1-80, except now I’m max level. Really, there’s no difference. I’ve seen zero effect on my drops. My bag still fills up as quick as ever.
(edited by DusK.3849)
Dusk just curious how many achievement points and hours played do you have?
Just a question not baiting your or what not.
231 hours, 1030 points.
99% of those not effected my DR aren’t 80. Ignorance is bliss.
Level 80 unaffected by the DR system here.
