Infractions served, no doubt. DC is really a bad abbreviation for “disconnect”.

“random players being really bad at certain maps and decide to log out rather than show their really bad gaming skills.”

Maybe they can’t be bothered with cheap game design. Skills don’t come into play here as much as having been there before. Maybe the issue was really bad team leaders unable to give instructions.

When you’ve done Alpha a gorillion times while farming your 100 lodes, you’ll want him to feature out just to get it over with.

This is a serious problem with the game. People should not get rewards for farming the same thing a gorillion times. These players contribute nothing fun to the game.

Either eliminate grind or stop pretending you are, dear ArenaNet.

I got kicked out of a party when i asked them to go slow. I had warned them I was a newbie outside, but the party leader said he was just doing this for his guild and had no time for newbies, something along those lines. They didn’t like it when I said I would quit the dungeon after dying a few times from traps they could have warned me about.

Another time a guy quit the ream when I said can we do a slow run please. He had no time for that.

From what I ‘ve seen of the dungeons there is nothing there that attracts me particularly . I’ve played a lot of games and I know what I enjoy and what is, to me, good game design. It isn’ t there.

If you’re lucky to find someone experienced who is happy to lead you through it with a good team, they can be fun, but it’s not the kind of thing where intuition will help much. Most of the time you will die from something you weren’ t even aware of. You can dodge some red circles but a lot of stuff instantly kills without warning. Skill won’t get you through, you either know the tricks or you don’t

The difficulty is artificially ramped up through cheap tricks and that’s why players will look for whatever cheat they can use .

I ANet need to make money I’d rather go the subscription route than the current route, which just affects the gameplay negatively. Seems that many people spend the money on chinese gold farmers, too.

I just play PvE so a lot of these suggestions are irrelavant to me. The personal storyline could be dumped completely as far as I’m concerned, as it is low quality material.

I’d like to second the following though:

" Remove the nickel-and-dime mentality from the game

We’re charged for virtually everything. There are gold sinks in the Trading Post, for using waypoints, for changing traits, for repairing armor that was broken due to the cheap shot mechanics of unbalanced dungeons (as I complained about above), and the list goes on. We don’t need this many gold sinks. Don’t nickel-and-dime your players for every little thing, it limits their overall freedom and doesn’t encourage players to go jumping around the world to chill with their friends when it costs them a lot of money to do so."

Seems we are expected to make gold by endless microtransactions or selling materials in bulk, for which he have no storage space unless we pay for it.

I don’t like the Trading Post and the whole para-economy, it just encourages people who are there to make money or for other reasons that don’t contribute to a fun game.

I don’t like soulbound items that I can’t give to my alt character, and junk items.

I juts got to level 50 with this storyline and there is the Battle for Claw Island which is really badly designed. Infinitely re-spawning enemies with no indication of how long you have to fight them for. I though the quest had glitched so I logged out.

I thought I’d be safe in the personal storyline from mobs spawning out of nothing right next to you, over and over, but it seems this is Zombie Wars.

Ah there’s also the part where you have to hit the ship with a trebuchet…. reminded me of bad mobile phone games.

ANet could take some lessons from Japanese game design, just saying. Phantasy Star is coming soon.

I agree, the open world PvE is a bore in terms of finding people to play with, and you need other people to deal with the mobs everywhere.

Consequently, most players hang around outside dungeons and some big group events. That’s all you hear about in the chat , and legendary weapons.

Many of those dungeon players are rude and in a hurry , terrible team players , bored and just grinding for rewards.

There is no joy in the dungeons unless you have a maxed-out character and a good team.

Linux is not a gaming platform and it’s nowhere near popular enough to have big games companies put money on Linux versions.

There are more vocal Linux users online , techies and so on, who make it sound like Linux is a big thing .
Get over it folks , it isn’t happening. Stop crying for Linux versions of everything.
The platform is a mess, you can’t have a reliable consumer OS designed by committee and wikis.
I do have a Linux netbook and it’s ok for what it is,but somehow I tend to find that there is so much more software available for windows, you know?

To everyone needing help with skill point captures and Vistas, I would suggest picking up some Ash Legion Spy Kit.

It’s of limited use, and you have to have your inventory open to access it at the right moment. If you’re under fire you’ll still get hit.

Agree with Sahfur completely. Worse for me, every fight disorients me and I have to look at the map if I’d forgotten to set a marker earlier. Opening the map and having a good look can take time, in which the mobs have re-spawned. good times…. NOT.

We wouldn’t want to do a very long timer (like 5m for all respawns) since it is an MMO, and it wouldn’t be fun to show up late to the party and find out another group has cleared out an entire heart or other area already.

I’m sorry to see this kind of fast-food approach – and I wonder if you actually have played the game recently. I play on the Tarnished Coast US server and am up to level 50 . I have never seen more than a group of 4 roaming around and that is rare. Large groups are only at specific places waiting for big group events. Solo players are the norm when wandering, or sometimes a team of 2-3 maximum.

If not 5 minutes, how about 3 minutes, pretty please? It should be an easy fix?

What is wrong with waiting a few minutes if people want to clear an area by themselves? In most cases people will be glad someone else has done some of the work, you know?

I continuously encounter this issue. Several areas with skill points or heart quest objectives are no-go for solo players. Roaming the map has become something I avoid , and I tend to spend a lot of coins on fast travel. I am more likely to teleport out of an area as soon as I’ve done what I was there to do , than explore for hidden stuff ( which there is). Others do the same and it’s easy to find yourself suddenly alone and surrounded. Even some platforming bits are not worth it because of re-spawning mobs.

If this game didn’t have so much good stuff I wouldn’t be bothering here, you know. . .
You have some amazing talent there and I do want to go beyond my current 25% world completion… As it is , the only way that would be fun in PvE is if I’m always playing with a party who want to go tho the same places , and that is unrealistic for most of us.

Finishing the personal story must be a requirement for advance in the future expansions. In GW1 you couldn’t access different things unless you finished the story. I want this feature for GW2 too.

I’m giving up on the personal story as it just isn’t good enough. I ‘d like that option too , and you can avoid confusion by always having the prompt on when the player’s character logs in . Right click to get the “hide” option.
Hover over the top right corner of the screen to reveal the little star which you can click on to show the prompt again.

I agree with issues mentioned mostly. A lot of it comes down to 2 things:

- What ANet thinks the mass of MMO players want. Is it grind? Does the mass of MMO players actually enjoy grinding and endless microtransactions? Do they want a game that is based on farming and loot? Do they want to play the same things over and over and over so as to eventually get a fancy skin for a sword or coat of armour?

- The game tries to be a jack of all trades by having both co-op and competitive modes. As a result a lot of what would have been cool skills to play with in PvE are seriously underpowered in an attempt to make PvP and WvW balanced. Combine this with the serious problem of near-instant re-spawns in many areas, and you ave a PvE mode that is ultimately frustrating and unrewarding in terms of gameplay . The levelling means you never feel powerful and not even being able to do damage to higher level enemies makes this game not so open world. In practice higher level areas may as well be blocked until you reach the right level.

A bit more about the skills and weapons in PvE: Seriously nerfed. eg:
-Chill 1 second. What good is that?
-Remove condition every 10 seconds. Dice roll. In 10 seconds you’re easily dead.
-Invisible so long as you don’t move or deal damage. whatever.
- Things like “10% chance to provide 33% protection on critical hit” ( which you have a chance of getting) . Sometimes I feel like I’m in a glorified gambling game.

All those limitations are clearly there to prevent organized teams from sequentially spamming the skills and becoming unbeatable in competitive modes .

Elite skills are jut not strong or long enough to make much of a difference with big bosses, etc etc.

Pretty much evry skill and weapon upgrade that sounds awesome on paper just fails to deliver the awesomeness in practice.

The PvE feels too handcuffed, similar to “free-to-play” games.

There is a thinking behind all this that since this is an MMO , there will be large groups of people in PvE rampaging all over the map. Well, this just isn’t the case as far as I’ve seen.

“This game, needs to be more like TESO than TESO can be, by being an open world sandbox mmo that actually promotes exploration, adventure and most of all, rewarding the player for actually taking the time to go around and appriciate the long worked architecture the devs put into it.”

I tried finding the location of the skill point I mentioned on the wiki , but the wiki is incomplete. I’ll fire up the game later and see if i can remember where it was. But, really most enclosed locations with only one exit are problematic, and so are several outdoor locations, eg Blasted Moors with its re-spawning ghost cannons and catapults. Yeah, nice trap. I actually stood outside for a while telling people coming in where the skill point actually is , because there is no fun to be spoiled.

People who want to see this solved, please post more locations where you find this problem so that devs can see for themselves!

Nothing I stated was exaggerated, it’s a shame to see the problem is not really acknowledged.

If this doesn’t change I am unlikely to play this game for much longer because I feel like a tool .

Yes, we don’t want to encounter respawns when leaving the cave and have to move on all the time, is exactly the issue.

I’ve thought about this a lot, and I think both in terms of gameplay and immersion/aesthetics , since the creatures will always have to respawn, two good solutions would be to : either leave the bodies there with a visible resurrect timer that is longer for the stronger creatures or packs;
Or , even better, but more radical : for mobile creatures, rather than have them evenly scattered around the map, making exploration a pain, and having them materialize out of thin air, have them emerge from a few spawning points like nests or dark portals and patrol the area. The spawn point can be attacked and destroyed , but this will always bring out more dangerous creatures. If the spawn point is destroyed , players involved get some small reward on top of any loot, and it takes a few minutes to re-spawn so that players can loot and get out of there as needed.

A simple visual effect when creatures de-spawn would be the icing on the cake.

If I am repeating myself, I apologize. I nearly deleted the game from my machine last night.

This is an unbelievably cheap game design choice, and I wonder about the developer’s state of mind when he/she put those values in for the respawn timers in many locations.

It is seriously killing my appetite for what is otherwise a wonderful game. . . And I haven’t been to Orr yet, where I hear the problem reaches hellish proportions.

I understand the idea is to provide a relentless and intense experience but this isn’t a zombie shooter game, PLEASE

In some areas creatures and enemies re-spawn in about 15 seconds, which means you go from having cleared an area with a lot of effort, and have all your skills on cooldown, to being surrounded by the things you just killed.

When that area happens to contain a place of power that you are there to commune with for a skill point, and as this process takes 4-5 seconds and is interrupted if you get hit, things can get extremely irritating for solo players. I wish i could have recorded my session last night where i had t kill a Veteran/Champion whatever , and its 5 bodyguards TWICE in 5 minutes in a crazy attempt to get that skill point. If I hadn’t just upgraded my armor i would have died a cheap video game death.

I have even had occasions where the thing I just killed would literally respawn immediately before my eyes!!!!

Atrocious game design. Want a suggestion from me? Leave the bodies where they are and add a visible re-spawn timer when you hover the mouse over each so you know how much time you have to get out of there or fight again…

Most importantly PLEASE increase those re-spawn times in PvE or provide more powerful versions of skills with shorter cool-downs for playing the zombie game in PvE mode .

PLEASE fix this, for the love of gaming.

I don’t understand a lot of players in this game.

If this was a game where all this grinding could actually net you cash rewards or physical goods, I would understand the crazy repetitive activity and hours spent managing virtual items.
As it is , a lot of the things people are grinding for are things like having a unique sword , and stuff that doesn’t even have significantly higher stats , that would give some supposed advantage in the game .

The most talk on forums and chat is about obtaining items and farming rewards. It just seems like meaningless busywork to me. I was expecting seeing people on local chat discussing how to beat bosses in group events and so on, instead it’s mostly people discussing legendary weapons and how much they want one. Or what rewards are supposed to drop where . They play for virtual rewards rather than enjoying playing with others doing events , heart quests and skill points, etc.

The PvE is largely a gear treadmill where people are rushing though events and dungeons as fast as possible in a sort of race, and it doesn’t look to me like they’re enjoying it. It looks like work to me. What for???

The short version: You don’t need to grind .

My imression so far on the PvE is there is no particular build or tactic that will be ok , you have to know what you’re dealing with and equip the right stuff. Outside dungeons, the best tactic is to be with other players and beware of stuff re-spawning behind you.

I have actually noticed all these issues occasionally and assumed it was just me fumbling with the keys… setting the targetting options to my liking helped a bit. But I have no key mapped to weapon swap and I do get it at times with both my characters.

I got occasional CTD when entering portals. The game repaired some files once, and sent a bug report . Hasn’t happened in the last 2 days. I could always relaunch and get back to where I was within a minute.

The display settings in-game report 15 FPS with my setup, however I don’t experience any of these mouse problems or significant slow-downs in PvE combat .

The camera movement’s smoothness , or lack of , is directly related to the smoothness of your mouse. Sure, this isn’t the best graphics engine and it will never be totally smooth like in some other games.

I have a Logitech G700 gaming mouse and have set it to a 500hkz report rate rather than the maximum 1000khz (which can be a source of lag), and I find it best to use around 2000 dpi with my 1920*1080 display.

I recommend checking your PC graphics card settings and your mouse settings .

2) The camera still has collision issues. Touching a wall, stepping off a cliff or elevated terrain, or bumping into an object with solid collision causes the camera to zoom in and out wildly. Try any jumping puzzle with floating platforms. When the playable character leaps off the ledge, the camera zooms in and out moments before the playable character reaches the intended landing spot. It’s frustrating not because of the design’s challenge, but rather the horrendous camera.

3) The limited FOV is still an issue, especially in tight spaces. When playable character is inside a narrow space with a low ceiling, the camera pushes in towards the playable character, obstructing the view

THESE are definitely existing issues that don’t depend on user setup. I rarely go inside small structures because of issue 3. Even fighting in tall grass outside can be a pain as the camera constantly zooms in and out as you move around.

It is a really lame way to do it, what you want is to make anything that gets in the way transparent, NOT to zoom the camera in and out.

I was in Underworld EU and it was pretty empty so I moved to US Tarnished Coast and there are plenty more people around, often in unexpected places. Finding people to play with is another story though…

That LFG website is just people wanting to do dungeons, there’s nothing there for people wanting to team up for exploring, doing skill points, etc.

I’m in the same boat as the original post.

Finding people to do PvE stuff can be a pain. People only want to group for dungeons , not because it’s fun but because they want to farm rewards. Grouping with random people to do a dungeon is usually a bad move as they’re just there for their farming and have no interest in teamwork.

Dungeons are a drudgery unless you have a maxed-out character and/or a very good leader.

Several areas in PvE are impossible without a group. Some real game design issues there.

This is primarily a competitive game with the PvE cheaply tacked on.

One tip people may have missed: Open Contacts, right click on your name and you can set your status to blue- Looking For Group, which puts a blue pair of binoculars next to your avatar tat other players can see.

I think many Linux users would pay more money to aNet if there was a native Linux client simply because they would play more often and run out of bank/inventory space necessitating a visit to the gem store.

I’m sure you ’ve convinced them now, and if they think like that , the game will only go downhill from here.

There are no crowds of players everywhere you go in PvE. There are no big armies entering every single cave and enemy fort.

Seeing creatures respawn within seconds after I’ve killed them makes the PvE gameplay incredibly cheap, annoying, a waste of time.

I don’t farm for rewards , I just enjoy a good PvE blast. Never being able to clear certain areas just puts me off this game. Entering a cave only to find you have to fight the stuff you just killed to get back out, is really lame and I feel like I’m playing some cheap zombie mobile phone game.

I feel like the game is largely focused on the competitive modes and PvE is cheaply tacked on. Do the developers think that PvE players are so useless and dumb that we are happy to sit in one place killing the same thing over and over again?

Really , seeing all those things materialize out of thin air makes me feel like a tool for playing this.

Look here , blob of ooze fighting a jungle wyrm, over and over , eternally.
