Is Axe any good now?

Axe isn’t a bad weapon. But its kit needs a minor overhaul. I still use axe just because I like its given amount of distance. It isn’t a world record killer but it gets the job done. I’ve been the last man standing in many parties because of this “crappy” weapon

It’s because this forum is particularly obsessed with melee grade DPS. For some reason necros have to be able to do it to. If you win a fight even though the math says you’ll lose. The math is no longer valid.

The real reason why you should ever use an axe is because the axe mastery trait damage boost works with death shrouds auto attack.

Are Necros needed in todays game?

Garo.5304

The problem is the selfishness isn’t selfish enough. There is no “power” behind it even if you stack it. Necros just need an across the board damage increase. My level 4 warrior scaled up to 80 does more overall damage than my power necro, something is wrong here.

I thought this game wasn’t suppose to have any specific way to build a character, as is some kinda “play as you want to build it”, but when you really dig into the mechanics you can see that this is flawed and each class -was- in fact designed around a specific idea.

Why would you write something so drawn out and within the first paragraph go completely off the topic? Did you even proof read?

It’s no secret charr armor is for the most part stretched over human modeling. As much as I dislike it on my charr I understand why – it would add a bunch of extra modeling stuff.

I rather have the old caster charr bipedal walk first before proper fitting armor. Clipping doesn’t really bother me

I’ve been asking this for the longest time. The reason why it feels wonky compared to other weapons is because they actually added the channeling to it if I remember, it was either that or . In the early stages of the game it was just pretty sick, just endless hacking away back and forth. Then suddenly in BWE3.. BAM gets hit hard and becomes kinda cruddy.

I’ve been pushing for axe to be restored back to its old beta speed for awhile. The no pause between channeling makes a huge difference.

Either that or a new idea to make the axe auto deal AoE damage in a small acute cone much like the guardian sword. Both warrior and ranger axe can AoE with auto, I don’t see why necro gets left out on this one.

Most Useless Necro Traits + Suggestions

in Necromancer

Posted by: Garo.5304

Garo.5304

Most the traits are lacking. Soul reaping has almost no return for traiting in it.
The heal amount of siphoning health in blood magic needs to scale with healing power.
The warhorn trait is pathetic. The axe mastery even more so because the axe auto attack was nerfed to hell and back
Reanimator is useless, though would be funny if it spawned every time something died, rather than once every 30seconds (yes you can have more than 1 if it manages to survive thanks to guardians)
The signet traits are.. um. useless? yeah useless. Spite is good for leveling up under 50 and locust is just for traveling. Plague would be neat if the CD was lower, and undeath well. Yeah it’s not a necros job to play nurse.
Not to mention all the CD times on them are utterly ridiculous for the effect. Really.. 90 seconds for spite? the conditions applied are piddly.
With the exception of undeath; all the necro signets should be between 20-30 second refresh. I’m not even joking.
Death magic is too specified for minions which are for the most part 2 hit meat shields even traited then they became 4 hit meat shields. The earth elemental elite glyph hits harder and tanks better than a traited flesh golem.

What am I supposed to actually trait into? I get little return from most the traits anyways. -sighs-

The traits are sub-par. Weapon sets are too boxed, and some have been nerfed. Deathshroud was a down mechanic turned into a skill mechanic which made it wonky, it has usefulness but it’s very lacking.
I don’t really have high hopes the people in charge of balancing necros will ever tweak them in the right way. A little buff for necro in the same patch every other class is always steps ahead of it.

3 – the thrill of death – AoE channeling skill that damages surrounding enemies that grants movespeed and regeneration if the foe is under a cripple, freeze, immobilize or fear
4 – AoE pull skill
5- touch of death(1min CD) – 20% chance to instant kill normal or veteran mobs if under the effects of cripple, freeze, immobilize or fear in PvE. teleport to your foe and touch them with the mark of death, leaves you vulnerable and unable to move for 1 1/2 seconds

Dagger change idea

in Necromancer

Posted by: Garo.5304

Garo.5304

Daggers need a simple change; Change 2 to a targeting leap that siphons health when it connects, like a vampiric bite.
Now 3 skill combos with the 2 skill. Oh also make the 3 skill do more damage if it hits an enemy with conditions.

Also about the daggers damage, well good- is still NO where near warrior tier damage. So I don’t know where people get off this idea that the dagger is crazy damage. It’s just currently the best flat damage weapon necros have at the moment.

Garo.5304

I agree with this thread. Necro was my main in GW1 after I got sick of getting my bum handed to me in cantha by putrid explosion on my war/ele

I loved having true expandability with minions, keeping them leashed by healing them, getting health in return, slaughtering all enemies in my path. It was satisfying.
I was disappointed in GW2. I mean- its ruined past the point of being a necromancer, it feels like a shell of the masochistic master of GW1.
There isn’t even a point in using conditions honestly outside of epidemic. Why even apply conditions when you get other classes who stack weak durations and max out the stack to the point you can’t override it?
I gave up DoT conditions and have been straight flat damage since.
Epidemic itself is also a crutch, since it kind of forces you to have a lot of conditions to make it worthwhile. Rangers, warriors and mesmers can stack better conditions than even the highest con-damage necro could.

Condition builds? Epidemic is all you need
Minion builds? What minions? You mean those jokes that are called minions? the elementalist t2 summon tanks better then the elite flesh golem
All you can really do is play straight power in my opinion, maybe except in PvP since most people glass canon in there anyways.

The large problem with the necro is the death shroud mechanic which was originally a downed state was suddenly revamped into a a class mechanic. All it really is another HP bar with mediocre skills attached to it.

Mobility is terrible. As far as I know this class has no leap or jumping skills, can’t exploit terrain. 2/10
DPS is kinda decent but it still pales in comparison to other classes, weapon mechanics are all clunky to me still. 5/10
Survivability is another HP bar, if your gonna get juked it doesn’t really save you. Fear would be nice if it was a small AoE around the necro 7/10
The CC is there but really it’s mostly about taking and exploiting conditions of others. Epidemic is crazy good but it’s a huge crutch. If the DPS was better you might not have to use this. 7/10

21/40 for me a C+ class and I main one.

What Fur color is this?

in Charr

Posted by: Garo.5304

Garo.5304

That is correct. There were a lot more between colors in the closed and first phase beta. A pale red, then a rustic pink, some much darker browns, oranges, a better pale yellow, some more white in betweens, and a more blue and brown black color.
Also another thing I miss was in the horn options you could separately both change the overall length of the horn and the thickness.

Sad they took all this out honestly. I’ve whined a little bit earlier on about wanting the pink fur back… hoping it hits the personal make over kit.

One core flaw in my opinion

Does anyone actually Like Necro???

Garo.5304

I played one an thoroughly enjoyed it in GW1, so that forwarded my decision later to do one in GW2. Talk about night and day though. It doesn’t help that a lot of abilities were “suddenly” changed without further reconsideration.

The balance in this game is supposedly suppose to make it so each class does every job the same(Dmg/Heal/Sup). Problem is far from that truth. Some classes, like necro, are stuck into a role and even that role is done poorly, sans the bugs. This is mostly the whole opinion of necro complaints. So were is the raw damage, I turned to death shroud. Okay slightly better numbers.. still piddly compared to a warriors basic attack.
I never found the raw damage. I’m sad.

b.)Replace it with a new trait. Something defensive, like gain 5 seconds of protection(5 sec cooldown) when something dies

Necromancer traits are useless

in Necromancer

Posted by: Garo.5304

Garo.5304

Before I go further this is not a troll post I’m being completely serious.

I’ve done some serious testing with multiple kinds of necro-builds and I’m not really impressed with any of their trait lines, they DON’T do much of anything. Nothing is -that- beneficial to any their attacks or skills at all. Bugs aside. I know a lot of traits and skills are bugged but this is beside that point.

It’s disappointing a real fun class in GW1 has become a neglected half implemented class with barely anything going for it. I get upset every time I play mine and usually end up deleting it.

The major problem lies in the fact the traits are too specific or aren’t specific enough. Stay for instance the 5 point in precision trait, 66% chance to bleed on crits. Well that sounds GREAT. But the problem here lies in the fact necros don’t nearly hit fast enough or even have any weapon outside of staff that can hit multiple targets with its auto attack or multi hit skills. Simply put, this trait is valueless because there isn’t enough multi-attack.
Then you have warriors which have that 40 precision per signet trait and guardians have the virtue of justice refresh trait on kill.
Gaining more life-force per hit traits? This is just lazy. Since shroud has a cool down this really has no specific purpose then to fill the meter faster, which already fills up fast enough if your hitting multiple things. If you god rid of shrouds CD this would gain value. But that would never happen because ‘balance’ apparently.
It feels like the developers wanted the necro to revolve around death shroud. But shroud itself has become nothing more then a health sink and an AoE to players. Death shroud needs more potatoes and meat, because it’s really pathetic compared to other classes abilities, even if you trait it. It’s just an extra health bar, I’d personally rework shroud into a more real ‘death incarnate’ thing. But that’s another post.

Going deeper into trees the taste of points get more bland for the value. In the end your better just traiting for just the extra stat points, I’m not joking either. There really is no point traiting for some kind of build when it gives you practically no return. Meanwhile guardians, and warriors become godly when they trait builds. Even engineers have that 50% endurance regen trait which turns them into tumbling champs.

Simply said, the devs really need to go through and re-evalute the necromancer traits. Make weapon builds not just viable but actually changes how the combat mechanics work in the build.

What if WoW never existed?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Garo.5304

Garo.5304

Sort of an irony is that Anet would of never existed if WoW didn’t. Anet started out as a culmination of blizzard and blizzard north, possibly from seeing WoW in the making and abandoning ship. I’ll never know, however I noticed from a web graph it(Anet)started about the time WoW was near the end of development. Is there a correlation there? I guess only the people who have been with Anet from the start could tell the tale.

Either way though, if WoW never happened. The MMO world would be a better place. It’s honestly nothing special, it was a right place right time and already had large fanbase from the RTS series.

I'll be honest about the gear and gearchecks

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Garo.5304

Garo.5304

The reality is that this situation has nothing to do with gear. It’s more of an elitism check.
I remember in EQ back in the kunark days, lower level characters didn’t have much to choose from armor wise and we could inspect each other, still, we invited practically anyone who was LFG as long as they were relevant level and the party wasn’t full, heck some people would even wait to get in this party. I loved these days. Then later it started to organize into that trinity like party, with sidekick damage.
I saw the downfall with my eyes and like hell I’d want that to happen again. I already like GW2 tries to rip the trinity apart because it was a bad idea from the beginning. It gives the player bias, and wizards are always OP.

People choose their own sense of entitlement because they think they’ve achieved something else only a few have. Which to a point is true, but just because you have something doesn’t mean you’ve mastered it. You can be as great of a player in green armor, might take a little longer to beat something(unless your a warrior).. it’s all a matter of understanding the strengths and weaknesses. Most people with full exotics and all that junk treat this game like WoW from the get-go. So there is no stopping them since they already were tainted.

One problem with Asura... Tiny weapons!

in Asura

Posted by: Garo.5304

Garo.5304

This thread is silly asking for something that’s static size for a reason. If the weapons were larger they’d all clip into the ground as bad as the charrzooka does on asura. I’m a max size, max muscled asura and I think my weapons look fine. I notice the small to big change, but honestly other races do it too.
Make a max size human, you get the same effect, same with sylvari. Interestingly enough charr don’t encounter this problem(or its really subtle) and it seems all their gear is a set to a certain size regardless of height or body type. And max size norns do it just a tiny bit.

So asura aren’t the only offender. It’s the way it is is because of the relative body size to the ground.

Why more people don't play Charr - The Simple Answer.

in Charr

Posted by: Garo.5304

Garo.5304

The citadel has nothing to do with it. Heck that map is one of the easiest, and one of the smallest city maps to navigate. It honestly is your own fault for not wanting to be an explorer and find all the nooks and crannies. Divinities reach on the other hand, now there’s a map that’s agonizing.

The real reason why more people don’t play charr is the cultural stigma, its a monster race, and disappointing at that. A lot of people wanted to play the devilish looking charr from GW1, but you can’t even really make a charr close to looking like that in GW2. The males have been hit with fabric softener to abide to a larger audience. And females which are new to GW2, seeing how flame legion kept them all behind the battlefield – are baby fresh out of the can.

Females get a lot better customization then males who I feel in the game, charr males got shafted the shortest stick. First to be developed, last to be redeveloped, thrown into the book and left to get dusty. So many small things they need, like applying fur color to the tail regardless of pattern.

More GW1 type monstrous faces- A younger face that’s scarred up, a middle aged face with some dermal spikes, and for charr sake a real lion face(an actual lion mane would be nice too), and interesting horns like horns that are chipped or broken, and dermal spikes.
The body types are lacking as well, there needs to be a more extreme version of the 2nd type with a much more developed upper body, then a body type that’s really in-between the average and skinny.

People don’t play charr because it’s too wonky right now. Everything either looks too silly or ridiculous.

it’s not evolution, it’s devolution.

The main difference is Kodan hold the code of koda, the spirit that just is and knows all. They do not question it.

Norn decided instead of trusting koda to leave and wander, finding spirits that hold qualities to their liking. As the spirits have died off, it is also a double edge to the Norn who have become spiritually weaker with every turn. Becoming human like happened because of poor writing. I would think however it happens because one spirit felt that they would be better off that way.
Eventually all the spirits will fade and norn will just be physically strong and nothing more. No more spirits of the wild to guide them.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I could easily see a monk/martial artist class. Wear light armor, their “armor” is more based on evasion and some built in block mechanics. They would have medium high HP. Oh- and they couldn’t wear boots or gloves.
They could already use some of the weapons available, spear, staff, sword, and dagger, and mace as well focus offhand and mace(bring back that GW1 combat healer mechanic). But their highlight would be unarmed combat. Add the pole arm type and they’re cherry.

As for race, I see tengu than possibly kodan. Also a possibility of cantha humans again.

Here we go again, people use the loose term MMO – Yes this game is an MMO, any game online that is intended for a large audience is an MMO, however your using the term as a watered down abbreviation for MMORPG which this game, as with the first one, is not.
Guild wars by design is essentially a sPvP game with a fantastic single player/co-op mode(PvE). The core of that hasn’t changed. Your endgame is PvP, and WvW. The PvE is essentially a collect-a-thon and operative challenge for those who may not want to get in PvP action or take a break from it.
GW2 took the original games PvE content to an entirely different level. It’s probably the first game ever with such elaborate extensive ideas cultivated in a game that is structured around PvP builds.
Granted a lot of things still need to be ironed out but it’s to be expected.

Axes need some love

in Necromancer

Posted by: Garo.5304

Garo.5304

I think the largest overlooked thing about axe is what vulnerability was in beta to what it was changed to.

-In beta vulnerability was flat armor reduction, meaning at 25 stacks you steamrolled almost every thing with a small army champion monster or not.
-When it was changed to % incoming damage suddenly the axe on necro fell flat. You can hold about 8 stacks of vulnerability on average, thats 8 percent incoming damage from an axe on a necro. That’s laughable. You barely see any increase at all, with the flat damage reduction it was undeniable though.

Still, a small AoE cone auto attack would being a blessing, It’s depressing switching from axe to staff because I have to crowd control the stragglers. Other professions that can use the axe allow it to hit multiple targets, yet necros are the odd one out.
