Two events to the next reward only applies with Gold participation. If you only get silver or copper you get less points so it will take more events to get to the next reward.
However getting gold is usually easy enough.

The bomb phase is when you can do most damage. But since the people running the bombs require time to reach the head the people attacking the head should stretch the duration as must as possible. By taking as long as possible with the CC more bombs can reach the head. The trick is that the bar must still be broken, but usually the bar goes down fast in this fight.

Leveling in low level zones?

You can level in any zone the experience will be less but you will still level up.
Alternatively you can also move to one of the other level 40-ish zones; Dredge hauntcliffs, Blaze Ridge steps.
The easiest way to get there is to use the Asura portal in your home city or walk there, it is located south of gendarran fields, from there take a portal to one of the other racial home cities.

I am currently unable to complete the prolugue mission. At the last rally point before the portal to verdant brink (after the escort and talking to all the LS npcs), I approach the green star. At that point the UI hides as if starting with a cut scene but instead the game becomes unresponsive. The standard anet crash UI does not appear

If it is anything like your current signature the hypen being used ( – ) has a chracters code which requires 2 bytes when encoded using UTF-8 (which is commonly used). My guess is the validation is counting bytes instead of actual characters. Try using the standard hypen – instead of – or some other separator.

Player Death & how it fits into the lore?

My opinion is that death within this game is basically final, you die you move on to the mists (or if you are unlucky you body is resurrected by Zaithan). The current lore simply contains to must stories about deaths of NPC none of which are brought back.
However the state you enter when ever your health run is called downed, after you run out of that bar you are defeated. At least that is what the state is called, though in some case it is also called death (i.e. the /death chat command).
The fact that you can be brought back to life is more something which in my opinion is not part of the lore but part of the game. I would for example would hate to have to start all over again if I died. But I do know there are players that do actually reroll their character if they die. If you are role playing that can be an integral. Or it may give you an additional challenge, playing through the entire story without dying is an accomplishment.
So I guess it is a bit up to you. Are you defeated or did you die.

A minimum of 30 FPS may be difficult depending on your game mode. PVE at world bosses or large WvW battles may prove difficult.
I have a laptop with an i7 and GTX970 video card and it generally does 70-90 FPS. But that will drop to about 15 in area’s with lots of effects going of.
When selecting you hardware keep in mind that GW makes more use of the CPU than the GPU. So a faster CPU is a good choice. Multiple cores does not add much, from what I have seen GW 2 main threads account for the majority of the CPU usage. So getting a six or eight core CPU is not very usefull.

You can also go to the armor vendors and hover over each of the items they offer. If there is a missing item it should say ‘Skin Locked’ in the tool tip.
Odd thing is that you only need one of each of the three armor varieties for each levels (e.g. only heavy for all three tiers), and since you have checked it thoroughly missing one would be possible but all three that sounds less likely.

TP UI very slow

I have been experiencing this same behavior the last couple of days. Specifically when listing an item on the TP. The green dialog fades noticeably slower and less smooth than normal, it looks like the frame rate for the TP window drops. The rest of the game is running normally at about 30-50 fps.
After clearing the cache and repairing the client it looks like it has improved.

Before buying anywhere you might want to look at the reseller list https://www.guildwars2.com/en/retailers. If they are not on it there is a chance you may run in to issues if the keys do not work.

Alternatively you can you use some virtualization software like VMWare, VirtualBox etc. Running one client on you system and the other in the virtual on lower graphic settings.

My suggestion would be to check if your video drivers are up date. The recording stopping sounds like some sort of reset occurring.

Try using the LFG system at tequatl time there usually are maps with commanders taxiing people in to get those maps full.
Besides that the only way is to map in and out and hope you get into a differen tmaps with some people on it.

Beta: Streaming Client -- Feedback Thread

While downloading the last update (on the 16th) I had the streaming client enabled and started playing as soon as the game allowed it. I tried to move to a different map (silverwastes) a popup indicated the map was not yet a available and the transfer would be queued. A minute later the map was ready and I could move.
So far it all worked as to be expected. After a bit I noticed the performance of the game was quite sluggish. I checked the performance monitor and the gw2 process was writing heavily to the gw2.dat file (100% disk activity) without any mayor download. this lasted for at least 10 minutes before I restarted the game after that the loader still had some files to download. After that I had no real performance issues.
It was the only update big enough to play while downloading so I am not sure if this was actually caused by the streaming client.

Basically each mob has a certain amount of damage you need to do to receive loot. After that threshold the system will do a roll (the RNG bit) to determine what you get, this roll may still result in no loot.

If you are a member of a party the total damage your party has dealt is compared against the threshold to determine if a roll is done, after that the RNG is individual (taking each players MF into account etc..)

[Suggestion] Fix for condition cap

The reason stacks exist is that individual durations have to be tracked. Appling 2 stacks as in the OP example needs to be two separate stacks because of the different durations. Combining these would change the damage being done, lowering the damage of the 3 second bleed to apply the same damage over 4 seconds would be an option. But what if the bleed damage is removed after 3 seconds?
Also ‘at the same time’ is a definition that is a more difficult that in seams, within this context a more precise definition would be ‘applied within the same second’. Again what happens if the two stacks with a duration of 3 seconds are applied with a 0.5 second interval and a cleanse happens after 2 seconds?
And what would happen if you add another stack after say 2 seconds, should it add duration, replace the existing stack? Replacing it would remove damage potential. Refreshing the stack (adding x seconds to the remaining time) would stretch the duration making it easier to mitigate the damage.

I am not trying to invalidate the suggestion I just want to illustrate some of he issues that may be involved. As bran noted the problem is more that the condition system works for 5v5.

Looking at the issue from a completely different angle, I think a solution for most PvE events would be to apply conditions as if the are normal DPS, i.e. not tracking the stacks but just apply the damage. This because the majority of world bosses/champignons do not cleans conditions. It may be over simplified, but would change the usability of condition builds.

Latency/Lag for EU Players? [merged]

One specific example.

Location: Netherlands
When: 2014-09-18 approx. 20:45 – 21:15 (GMT+1), Tequatl event
World: Gunnar’s hold

I entered the map at approximately 20:15 and did a few of the open world chests and some gathering without any lag. The map was already filled up for the tequatl event (atleast 75 players near the event site).
About 20:40 I joined the group at splintered coast. In that area I experienced some minor lag, this mainly showed as other players standing still for a short period (say 15 sec) and then my client would ‘catch up’ (al lot happened fast). In this time I was able to interact with banners, food etc. But for example interacting with a bonfire resulted in getting the buff but my character did not sit down, so I moved of and 30-60 seconds later my character did site down without being pulled back to the location of the bonfire.

When the event actually started the lag got worse. Initially hitting a weapon skill (any including 1) would delay a second or two and then play, but this got progressively worse where at some point skill would just blink and execute after a long delay. While this was going on I was moving through the map without experiencing rubber banding. Other players where mostly standing still but some did move (normally not in a straight line as if about to DC). Occasionally the client would jump ahead and parts of the interactions would execute. The health of tequatl did dropping slightly but not inline with what was to be expected based on the players present.

After several minutes (approx 5) I got a DC. In the last minute before the DC (while the client was lagging). I did join a party and the request was accepted, this UI interaction appeared normal and responsive.

After the DC I reconnected and was able to join the party in the correct instance again (took several tries). I got back in during the first battery defense phase and the lag was similar to when the event started (initially some skill responded al be it slowly, but that degraded quickly). The battery health bars where below 100% but did not drop noticeably while I was there. Atfer a few minute or so I DCed for the second time.

This time I connected again (from the characterscreen) and arrived in the same instance as the rest of the party. From this point on the lag almost immediately disappeared, I was able to complete the last two defense events and burn phases without any noticable lag.

On the map chat I did not see any other remarks regarding lag.

And again today (19th) 15:15-15:20.
Fractal Mai-trin fight.
Specifically during the cannon phase I experience lag which has been more common lately. Randomly the other players/NPC’s stop and 15-30 seconds later the client appears to catch up with events. Atleast one other party member was also experiencing lag spikes at about the same moment.

Spoons

It is just the general randomness of drops that is annoying. I had 2 WvW spoons drop in the first 4 hours playing WvW after the patch. The fractal spoon dropped on the first fractal run I did (level 3).
But the tequatl spoon has jet to drop and I have seen people with 4 teq spoons.
So yes it is frustrating the drop behavior almost seems biased (some people have all the luck, i.e. 2500 hours+ playtime no precursor drops when some people have multiple with less playtime) but then again I have no empirical evidence so we just have to attribute it to random chance.

How to defend against condition damage?

As you have found out there are two main damage types. Getting bashed in the face and condition damage (of various types).
Toughness indeed only mitigates direct damage. Conditions bypass the toughness reduction direct damage gets and starts lowering your vitality immediately.
There are several defense strategies possible, depending on your class and play style you need to combine one or more to work for you.
1. Get stats to get a high vitality/healing. Higher vitality gives your more time to let the condition expire.
2. Get stats or use foods to reduce the condition duration/damage. This lowers the total damage the conditions apply.
3. Use condition removal skills. Depending on your class you will have access to one or more skills/traits that remove/cure conditions.

What combination you use also depends on what type of content you play (PvE is less conditions, PvP/WvW typically more).
Typically a combination of damage reduction food/stat and one or two skills that can remove conditions all together is a good starting point.

Specifics on DR have not been made public by Anet.
Basically DR to get rid of DR you need to spend a more or less equal time doing something else. (at least another area, not sure about mob type).
DR does take time to set in based on what I have seen it takes more than a few hours. I have done the occasional karka shell farm for a few hours with a few guild mates, without a noticable change in drops. As drops are chance based, you need a large data set to say if there is a statistically significant change.

In the last feature this behaviour was changed. You now only get 14 points total instead of 70. But instead of needing 10 for a major trait you only need 2.

Precursor Drop For Non-80 Level Chars

Based on my experience on every loot roll you have a chance to get a named item. These are exotics(?) with a real name, instead of the generic naming scheme “stat weapon of something” (etc). These items will always have level 80.
For all other items they will have a chance to be close to either the mob or your level.

Keep in mind that in low level zones (1-15) your stats 2 and 3 are not used only stat 1 on the gear. This is because there is not level 15 gear with a 2nd stat. Crit damage is usually the 3 stat so is only effective in higher level areas

6k achievement points?

To get 6k worth of achievement point requires not only doing the achievements. But you will need to do living story and daily achievements. I have most of the PvE achievements and did dailies/living stories since launch and have about 7k. So getting to 8k is going to take time.

Another guild member tested opening bags with 2 stacks (of 250 each) MF gear vs normal gear. And she said it made no difference.

From what I have seen chests are affected by MF but this is determined at the moment of the kill not when you open this. This is only an observation that I seem to get more rares (2/3) from the boss event chests regularly when wearing MF gear and get mostly greens when wearing non MF gear.

And the 1/3 gold is only for the first run after that you probably only get the drops from the mobs. Which would make running the same dungeon multiple times far less profitable.

I think the area you are talking about is the Martyr’s Tomb in “Ruins of Holy Demetra” of the Harati Hinderlands.

I don’t know what you consider easy. But you don’t get a badge everytime you kill an opponent, there is a chance you will so you will have to kill each other a few times for each badge. With just the two of you you will have to waypoint after being killed and walk all the wayback so efficient is another thing.

This would only transfer the skin. The new item would have the stats of the white item. To get it back to ascended stats you will need a new item with the ascended stats to transmute the skin on to.
But from your post I suspect you want to transfer the item with stats, and this is not possible.

DR does affect events but I have only seen it if you do the same event over and over again without doing other events in between. When this happen you will still get the same participation level but you will get less coin and karma.

The standard chat codes should not support that they basically only contain an id within the gw2.dat file both the text and item shown should be pulled from there (see http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Chat_link).

You can join guild missions even if it not one for your guild. As stated you will not get the guild reward (commwndations etc), but you will get the standard event reward (karma plus a few silver) and a chest.
Any person completing the run will count as one of the 15 the guild needs to get the merrits so this is a benefit. Also don’t worry you are stealing one of the guild members rewards as any guild member finishing the rush within the 30 minutes get their reward.
The same goes for other guild missions.
Of course its always nice to ask if you can join.

I don’t think there is much you can do. As far as I have seen scaling reduces your states to the best available gear for the level you are scaled to (assuming you have the best gear for your level).

Guild Rush: Mission Control for everyone?

After the mission has been started from the guild panel any member can start the rush at the start location.
I have not yet had the rush already active, but it is unfortunate that a single person can accept the failure outcome. It probably was a case of not understanding what was accepted. I would agree mission control should be a requirement to accept failure.
As for joining an active mission is a good thing I think. Having a queue of a couple of guilds waiting to their rush would be very anoying.

A black lion kit costs 300 gems at the current rate that is 9g to buy.
25 rares contain 75 ecto’s (3 each). A master (or mystic) salvage kit will give a 25% of on getting each ecto; therefore on average a master salvage kit will get you 18.75 ecto’s. A black lion kit will give you a chance 50%; resulting in 37.5 ecto’s on average.
At the present price (22s) this will give you approx 4g. So that does not appear to be worth it. For this to be worth it either ecto’s need to more than double in price or gem prices need to go down to 1.3g

A mystic kit costs 36s (for the three salvages kits) + 3 forge stones which are 150 gems which is 4.5g. At 250 uses this is approx 2s per use. The original 3 kits had 75 charges costing about 0.5s per use. So that would not be worth it either. For this to be cheaper the gems would have to be 56s per 100 or less

No you need to get inside to get the POI’s and vista’s located there. The ways to do this are normally to wait until your server changes color. The alternative is to transfer to another server which but this means that you will have to stay for a week.
The hard way is to get a group of people together and capture the objectives.

As far as I know this sort of information is kept until the next server reset. After the reset things like location and character name in the guild roster, they stay empty until the next time the person logs in.

I would say spying, misinformation and sabotage is a valid part of any war game where parties play against each other. What I don’t like is that it is not possible to take action on individuals doing so. What I would like to see is that you could somehow tag some one as a spy (and when tagged enough) sending them to some sort of lock up. Preventing them from doing anything in WvW. I know this is to simplistic and prone to grieving but I think it would add to the experience.

On some servers the community has provided Team Speak (or similar). For example gunars hold has gunars-hold.eu. I don’t know about other servers but there probably are similar initiatives.
It is probably easiest to ask in map chat in WvW as this is where it is most commonly used.

Guild Trek Bug

We have had this behaviour on two different treks once with ‘Forager’s Midden’ and with ‘Vizier’s Anteport’. No circle so we failed it.
Forager’s Midden we actually had two weeks in a row, the first time I found it without any problems but the other time there was not circle. Spamming F all over the place did not help either.

On these occassion I did notice that the guild UI it self misbehaved aswell. The build queue showed up empty (will we had items building) and I could not activate another mission (the previous mission had already failed).
Re-logging did not help but when I went to HotM the Guild UI started working again.

To receive the guild commendations you must represent the guild. As the mission only runs on the server where it is started you would have to guest to participate. You would get the personal guild reward (commendations + rares).
Note you will only receive one personal reward per mission type per say and guild trek does not award a personal reward

It used to be possible to place siege on that ridge but that was changed last year. Maybe it is just a specific spot that still allow it. I guess you should report this using the in game bug reporting (/bug).
