considering how flashy back pieces we already have I game I don’t see any reason why we couldn’t have also a capes…
[I really wanna mah guild cape back ]
This is kinda where I’m at.
I understood their position back around launch when things were a little more tame, but,
Anet’s already made this look like any other Korean f2p MMO out there with the absolute abundance of way over the top flashy cosmetics we can wear, at this point I don’t see any logic in not giving us capes (And mounts, while they’re at it).
I guess wings sell quite good—seeing the vast numbers of “angels” ingame. But, unless it is really just ArenaNet having a kitten for wings, one should think the players’ desire for them would be slowly satiated.
There’s a big market for capes though, I wager. Clipping issues and stuff might be tricky, but come on! They are ArenaNet, makers of one of the biggest MMOs to date!
I want to duel everyone i come across. Mounted on my fiery steed and with a cape hanging over my shoulders. With my lance (spear) in my hand.
Do you also want to inspect people and give them unwanted comments of their stats?
^^
Seriously though, while mounts are superfluous and dueling and spears are both somewhat implemented (duel servers and underwater combat, haha), THIS is a matter of importance. Capes. That’s my kittening lifestyle.
I know GW2 aims to be different in a lot of aspects… but are there truly no capes? And if so, why?
We have backpacks instead, so I’m not talking about a stat slot. Simply from an aesthetical PoV I’d love a cape draped over my heroic shoulders.
I’ve played a bit with the trait yesterday (hotjoin only), it was fine when I encountered a single oponent but, much more likely, this wasn’t the case and the blind often went off to some other opponent, pet, or clone instead of my target.
The idea behind Blinding Ashes is so cool! But, oh well, not like this.
Guys, at least reverse the range nerf…
What’s the point? It wasn’t utterly unbalanced before.
You don’t go to cancer patients and tell them there’s a cure for cancer, for april fools. Not funny.
You had me convinced. Too bad I can’t watch this on my mobile phone…
Why do you do this to me?
Hahaha, transforming into a tree would be hilarious. It could be clickable (for PvP) , therefore attackable but not marked with a red name. Enemies instead would just read ‘suspicious tree’. A funny idea and at the same time some deception (quite literally) not bound to a combination of clones & stealth.
I’d also like to see a skill that allows to switch places with a clone; but unlike illusionary leap, the enemy, should he be targeting you, also unknowingly switches targets to the exchanged clone.
^lol are you serious?
Prolly hotjoin.
As a matter of fact, you are right. Although that also goes for solo queue.
What hasn’t been mentioned yet is the focus. It brings great utility; swiftness, cripple, a pull which can be used to interrupt, to close a gap or to, well, pull people off cliffs. Since the iWarden is a whirl finisher, it can also cleanse conditions in combination with temporal curtain, which is a light field. Besides, it does good damage and serves as a little sanctuary from enemy projectiles.
I play Shatter myself, and the focus works rather well I must say.
It’s true though, there are a lot of mesmers. Especially in sPvP… You wouldn’t believe how many I’ve encountered the last few days. We should thank the infamous PU build for that.
When every profession can defend themselves adequately against every other profession EXCEPT thief, there is a problem.
This thread is not about who should be the best roamer or single target DPS. It is about how thieves, by leaps and bounds more than other professions, can totally ignore the defensive mechanics used by other professions for survival to the point where running a berserker build ceases to be an option.
Haha! Say this my warrior, who kills three thieves simultaneous last week.
Please also inform my elementalist, whose chances of surviving a good thief equal those of surviving a forest fire while camping in the %!$*ing forest.
Has there ever been a sound reasoning by the Devs for nerfing RTL?
4}if you can’t bring yourself to re-roll character, re-roll game
That’s what I did and I don’t regret it. From time to time I take a peak into the game after reading the patchnotes, nothing really changes though. The content they bring with every patch is awesome, but in the end it all comes down to the class you play. What’s the use in playing if your favourite class is no fun anymore?
Hey, how about this:
Unique stomp finishers for every profession! Oh, you’ve read the title?
Well, anyway, that would be quite awesome! Imagine: As an elementalist, burying people with a “Grasping Earth”-like skill. As a Mesmer, simply shattering the downed opponent like one of your illusions. As a Necromancer, draining the soul of that unlucky kitten in a dementor-like style. As a guardian, burning the downed enemy, leaving behind a ghost who flees in panic…
Whaddya think?
Greetings.
Projectile reflection. Like many of you said, that’s the thing. The Tornado would still be avoidable.
I like the refinements you thought of. Bleeding removal upon use of the Fire Shield appears to be a bit random though. Also, I wouldn’t quite like RTL as a leap finisher because that would mean that it would most likely stay in its current form (shortened range and long cooldown). It would never be primarily a mobility tool again.
Have the devs actually commented on RTL before, reasoning the change with logic? Sorry if this sounds offensive. But from what I think and what I’ve heard (and also clearly based upon what I want) there are more reasons to change RTL into something more useful again.
Hey Minion. I’ve never thought about it like you did but it makes sense what you write. Yep, I agree with that. Mesmer is a good example, they got everything within their weapon skills, their traits just enhance what is there. While I think bigger additional stuff on the trait system is not a bad thing, a class really shouldn’t be completely useless without (m)any traits.
How is the situation with the other classes, by the way? (Elementalist and Mesmer happen to be the only professions I play)
D/D since launch deserves an huge damage output boost, and by huge I mean huge.
YES! At least that would be the logical conclusion! (poor hp, low armor… HIGH BURST!)
Hey people!
Nowadays, the only build we can use competitively is the Cantrips- build. This is because Cantrips are sadly the only utility skills the elementalist has which allow him to effectively prevent incoming damage (well, aside from Arcane Shield). And the elementalist NEEDS those skills to prevent damage since this profession has the lowest base health and armor of all classes.
Cantrips are also coupled with a trait that gives the elementalist regeneration and vigor upon activation, (two boons which really help compensate the elementalists weaknesses) making Cantrips an even better choice over all the other utility skills.
But as if this wasn’t enough, now that Cantrips cause regeneration, they will also remove a condition upon activation if the trait Cleansing Water (XI) is chosen…
As a result, Cantrips are now so good, it is not even an option anymore to not choose them! All the weaknesses that the elementalist has are far outweighed by the benefits of a build around Cantrips. No other build can do this. (Or to be specific, no other build comes even with the basic features which would make the elementalist playable in PvP)
Well, you probably knew that already. If you didn’t, then you are welcome. I just wanted to substantiate the problem and show the reasons why the Cantrips build is the only one currently played, in order to suggest my ideas how to solve this imbalance of builds.
Making Conjures viable:
*cut the charges and the time limit for the elementalist, leave it like that for other group members
*introduce a trait which causes different effects depending on the current attunement while holding a conjured weapon (e.g. 25% less damage while in earth attunement; …)
Making Arcane abilities viable:
*introduce a trait which adds some defensive potential to Arcane spells (e.g. the Arcane Shield pushes enemies back upon explosion; …)
*make Arcane spells visually more appealing
*make Arcane “cool”: An ability in an MMO can be cool either because of its visual effect (which I noted above) or because it has a cool mechanic. A good example for a cool spell is Churning Earth. A cool looking big-hitter. A slow cast, something rare and special in GW2. It doesn’t necessarily have to be uber strong though.
My idea concerning Arcane’s coolness: Arcane Scent. (Arcane Grandmaster trait) Upon activation of an Arcane ability, the elementalist will be steeped by a residuum of arcane magic for 15 seconds. (visualized by a whirling cloud around the elementalist, leaving a small trail while moving) Arcane Scent should also have an effect, ideally one that fits the image of a squishy guy with a lot of power. (e.g. Arcane Scent deals damage to nearby foes; A.S. steals boons from nearby foes; A.S. heals you for 25% of the damage you cause; …)
Nerfing the Cantrips build:
*leave alone Ride the Lightning! (besides all the crying, the community already gave plausible explanations why nerfing RTL is not a good idea)
*nerf Cleansing Waters, which is apparently what ArenaNet is about to do
*lower the duration of regeneration gained by Soothing Disruption (III) down to 5 seconds
I’ll write about other builds which could be made viable later today! For now, I hope for your own suggestions and opinions on the matter.
Greetings,
Gugus
Signets -> useless (will still be useless even after patch. Even if you spec into signets you can’t make use of the condition damage from earth)
Conjures -> useless
Elites -> useless
Glyphs -> useless
what is left? Right, cantrips and arcane spells. Cantrips get nerfed, arcane spells are left – but they don’t offer the survivability that we desperately need with lowest HP and toughness (same goes for fire and air traits).
I think it might be a good idea to redo some utilities to offer defense in addition to cantrips and also offer defensive traits in fire and air traitlines.
I think that boils it down to the essence.
The class with the lowest HP and armor and rather mediocre damage needs some reworking! The only thing elementalists excel at is surviving- due to constantly being on the go, removing conditions and having regeneration up. (Note: Don’t get me wrong, we also can deal damage. Our squishieness/damage ratio is just way lower than other classes’)
Why not give us elementalists other options?
Hey Neil!
I didn’t bother to read your little prologue, mainly because I didn’t click this section of the forum to read stories. Try the lore section, I think it will be in good hands there.
While it is true that the elementalist will be struck by the nerfbat in the next patch, there is a possibility that we may also get a few buffs. Ideally those buffs should make a few other talent setups viable… I am getting really sick of the 0/10/0/30/30 (S/D)/D-build.
Before they launched GW2, ArenaNet liked to emphasize that their talent system would be largely free of cookie-cutter builds, allowing many builds to be viable in PvP.
Well… somebody didn’t do their homework.
We want more than just one good build option (with some small possible variations)!
Eles aren’t op. The 0/10/0/30/30 d/d build is op. The problem is that besides that build eles do not have anything else that is viable.
Exactly what I would say. When it comes to weapons, maybe the scepter is an alternative to the MH- dagger (a rather weak one though) but that’s it. And when it comes to talents, well, someone already mentioned that the trait lines fire, air and earth should be overlooked and made more attractive to t/sPvP players.
Great idea! (for D/D eles)
Though I find a scepter or a staff very fitting to us elementalists.
Hey guys! It’s been a while since I last stuck my nose into PvP, mostly due to the lack of variation. Anyway, back then (~ four months ago) elementalists were deemed to be rather weak. Not enough damage in relation to our squishiness, everybody said. I played a dual dagger build, you know, the one that nearly everybody was/is playing and did quite good. I didn’t share the opinion of the naysayers in the forums and ingame chats.
Somehow, this changed. Since when do people think of the elementalist as one of the strongest, most effective classes? I can’t find anything grave in the patchnotes.
While RTL still can be used to close gaps, I noticed that they changed the travel-distance that you can cover with it! Also, it seems like RTL is slower since the patch but that could be just my subjective perception.
The cooldown on all the attunements is already reduced if you spend points in the arcane trait-line. In other words, the traits you mentioned would be redundant, especially since the an elementalist has to make use of all the elements to be effective.
Me: D/D Elementalist
Most feared: Engineers (all the knock-backs/dazes/immobilizations… I hate them)
Least feared: Thieves and other Elementalists
Dwarves might be pretty interesting actually. Of course, as of now it doesn’t look good for the little beardos but mayyyyyybe, one day we might discover a group of dwarves that didn’t undergo the ritual of the great dwarf and thus stayed fleshy and fully capable of reproducing…
as far as probability goes, I’d say any of the Racial Sympathy choices has next to zero chances of ever becoming playable, unless they completely change that part of the game.
I doubt we’ll ever see playable Skritt, Grawl, Hylek, Ogres or Quaggan
and that’s fine, because i don’t think that’s what this thread is about
Well if you’d sort them out, what’s left? Well, Tengu of course, since they were once meant to be playable… Krait/Naga/Centaurs? Rather unlikely. At least I’ve never seen playable races with no or more than two feet in any MMO! And quite frankly, it also would be weird in my opinion. Seers or Mursaat? Besides that there is barely any information about them included in GW2, they are just too powerful compared to a mere human or any of the other races.
This would be awesome. I can imagine Trahearne turning villian because he’s lost now that he’s completed his Wyld Hunt.
Hmm, then you’d have to take a Sylvari PC into account since their Wyld Hunt is specifically to kill Zhaitan.
I think the Sylvari PC Wyld Hunt was to defeat all of the elder dragons, not just Zhaitan. I may be wrong, it has been a while since I last played a Sylvari.
Concerning the topic, you don’t even know how great I think this idea is! Actually, I do not really dislike the character Trahearne as much as many in the forums appear to do but it’s always nice to see someone turn “evil” in video games, since I feel like it happens not often enough. I mean, what would you get if you’d join an elder dragon? Power most likely, lots of it. That sure should sound tempting to many mortals particularly because they are mortal and would die anyway one day… so why not live a life full of great power?
It’s the real Trahearne.
That would make an awesome plot twist if the personal story continued.
Turns out he didn’t cleanse Orr – he just further corrupted it.
Which he did because actually, this fake Trahearne is an agent of Primordus who’s whizzy plan it is to weaken the forces of the mortal races while slowly disposing the other elder dragons one by one…
Cool (not-so-human) looks and an interesting philosophy, that’s all I’m hoping for in the possible sixth race.
Obviously, my choice are the Tengu then!
Also, the Hylek and Quaggan really appear to me but which I think both sadly have a rather low probability to ever become playable.
Waiting on ZZYZX to hop on his main account and reply to himself……
Waiting on people to make envious posts… oh, you! You were faster than me. I find double dagger duels really nice to watch, as long as they are both not too tanky.
Only got twenty dollars in my pocket.
… I, I, I’m huting, lookin for a weak-* mesmer!
Seriously though, you completely lock down an opponents skills for ten seconds, that is good enough. Most Mesmers are able to down someone from full health in ten seconds and if it weren’t for the fifth moa skill, it would be a win button. I hope we all agree that GW2 PvP is no place for win buttons.
- riding the lightning into freedom (I mean safety, freedom just sounds better) especially from the enemy trebuchet over the wall
- in WvW, lightning flashing into the enemy crowd and hitting updraft. It’s looks like mjölnir striking
- generally pushing people off of everything
- luring underwater until someone ashore passes and using bubble/anchor on them
Elementalists are multi-faceted spellcasters that channel elemental forces, making fire, air, earth, and water do their bidding. What they lack in physical toughness, they make up in versatility and the ability to inflict massive damage in a single attack.
After reading that, one thing popped into my mind: Avatar! (the cartoon, not the smurf-alien crossover) So I pictured the elementalist cauterizing his enemies with big blasts of fire and lava, flash freezing them with icy magic, evading enemy attacks with the swiftness of the wind while unleashing some good old fashioned electric wrath. And if everything failed, the elementalist would’ve barricaded himself behind some walls of solid rock or burried the enemy alive.
As it turned out, much of what I expected became true… just in less spectacular ways. Also, less devastating. If someone is a master of the elements, there are SO many ways of making use of it. The way the elementalist is right now, it feels like being an apprentice in elemental magic, certainly not like a master.
It’s sad, but you are right. I didn’t get to disagree even one time.
After playing GW2 PvP I probably couldn’t go back to WoW PvP, just like drinking good beer makes you never want to go back to drinking Bud light (even though you’ve once enjoyed it)… so please ArenaNet, don’t ruin this for me.
I too have added this into the normal forum, however, as half the population is posting onto that forum, some comments go un-noticed.
I would really love to see asura one handed weapons strapped to the backs of the toons (like the 2h greatsword for example). this way, you will eliminate weapon size issues. It also makes sense considering the size of these toons
Also, it would look so much cooler having two one-handed weapons crossed (like this X. Oh well. I guess you guys know what a cross is, too. ) over the back.
My suggestion (even though it is more of a petition): More riddles! Secret stuff, hidden randomly in the world! For example, an old man telling you that there’s a gate to the catacombs at location xyz. Once you get there you meet an adventurer who tells you that he found out that the key which will open the gate was lost after the ship which carried the keeper of the key went shipwreck. Now you would go treasure hunting until you eventually find the key somewhere in a shipwreck in front of the shores of Orr. Which enables you to open the gate… And so on.
Molten Path (Elementalist)
Duration: 10 seconds
Cooldown: 180 seconds
Your skin is covered with lava. You leave a trail of molten rocks, causing foes that cross it to burn. Whenever an enemy strikes you, he will be dealt damage and every three seconds, nearby enemies will ignite.
I think this would be a great addition since it would compensate the elementalist’s natural squishiness and offer offensive support over a short duration. Also, a magma-y glowing Elementalist. How cool is that?
As a rather experienced pvp player I’d say that our elites aren’t overwhelming at all. At least from a (s)PvP perspective.
Tornado might give you the chance to clear a capture point from a few enemies for a few seconds. Also, it gives you a rather long lasting stability buff which is always useful. BUT once you’ve knocked back your enemy there’s a 87% chance that he won’t be stupid enough to charge at you again and instead starts unloading, literally in case of a double pistol thief, his damage at you with a ranged weapon. Which you can barely do anything against since you are slow. An ability consisting of a 20s duration stability buff and a just initially usefull knockback effect, also presenting you on a silver tablet and depriving you of the full variety of your skills which would normally be used to compensate your squishiness? Sounds untempting for an elite. Besides the visual being awesome (in case it works). I mean, hey, tornados.
Fiery Greatsword Looks nice. Just like the damage numbers it can make appear on your screen. There’s not much besides damage that it is good for though. Just like the tornado, it deprives you of your attunement related abilities. Although you can still use your utility skills. I tried specializing my elementalist on the greatsword, simply because I thought a little asura with a giant flaming sword is really cool. Of course, it didn’t really work out. Mainly because I was too squishy and couldn’t balance that out since skills 1 to 5 were missing, at least when fighting halfway decent opponents. The other thing that really bothered me were the charges which come with every conjured weapon, making it impossible to bear the greatsword at all times, even with the corresponding trait increasing the number of charges. (Also, the sword has a time limit after which it automatically loses all charges) As a conclusion, you could say that the Fiery Greatsword is quite fun and even useful in PvE but rather useless in (s)PvP.
Glyph of Elementals Gives you a fiery/icy/windy/rocky companion. All of them come with good effects and deal a tad of extra damage. Too bad that you can’t control their actions. What’s the use of a ~6k heal if you stand 20 metres out of its radius? What is a stun good for if not used exactly when you need to interrupt your opponent or his movements in order to strike with a powerful ability? Also, unlike the necromancers golem, the elemental disappears after roughly a minute. Don’t get me wrong, for PvP this elite is by far the best choice since the elementals come with quite handy effects and you keep all your abilities when using it. But because you can’t really control them, their usage always involves some luck. And I don’t like that. Thats why I hope for ArenaNet to give us some more options.
I think you can’t compare them. Five adventurers (six if you count that cute little wolf) against a whole army?
