If the upvotes on the reddit thread “Don’t Pre-Purchase Heart of Thorns” are any indication, that’s a bare-minimum loss of $78k, so far, not including any upgrade packages. So the total is easily over $100,000 in lost sales, just from those who have viewed that thread and voted. It’s not a perfect metric, but people are speaking their minds and voting with their money right now.

Maybe if there was some discussion about the HoT packages and price points, this disaster could have been avoided. It’s not like we don’t want to give Anet our money, but we also want good value. If the price cannot be lowered at this point, at least pad the packages, especially the base one. It’s nickel and diming your customers, when you make them pay $50, then force them to buy a character slot for the new class.

I don’t actually get the purpose of outfits. I’ve seen several that I liked pieces of, but was stuck with the entire thing. Also, the inability to use other headpieces, like glasses, kind of kills them for me.

They feel like very limited version of skins. It makes me so sad to see something awesome hit the gem store only to find out that it is an outfit

Bingo. I haven’t purchased on outfit since the Mad King costume, and that was before it was an outfit. The moment Anet makes outfits available as armor sets, I’ll buy every single one.

Heroic Chests for the Unlucky Ones Maybe???

I’m a paying customer. I paid for the Digital Deluxe version of the game. If Digital Deluxe/Heroic is now pinned with the Heroic Chest, it should absolutely be awarded retroactively. That’s called good customer service. Yes, I am feeling entitled; I continue to pay for this product.

You do realize that the whole point of the heroic edition is to offer an incentive to new players who need to play catch-up with the existing player-base, right?

Also, as there is no subscription, you do not “continue to pay for this product.” You continue to pay for new products which ANet offers, at your own discretion.

So the gem store purchases within the game are not part of the product? What other game am I paying for?

Gems are a product within the game. You pay for additional currency with real money and after this you choose in-game currency (gems) to buy other services. So at first you bought a game but every gem purchase is a new transaction for new product.

Semantics. Some people are seriously bored today…

It’s not semantics. You make it sound like you’re continually paying just to play the game, and that you deserve some sort of extra reward for doing so. You don’t. I don’t either. If you choose to pay for gems, you are charged a specific amount and receive a specific product in return, no more, no less.

Again. Semantics. Yawn I’m paying into this game and its future.

At this rate, the lack of content now is catching up to whatever total content is released with the expansion, except then we’ll have to pay for that content. It will essentially be a wash. I have no doubt there will be some great new gem store items this week as something to look at/purchase while we grind dozens of hours for beta keys in maps we’re tired of.

If you live your life expecting to get all of the nice things that other people get- regardless of whether or not others deserve them or earned them- you are doomed to a miserable life of disappointment. And who is to say you won’t get something nice in the future that a bunch of other people do not?

If a company sells you a car in 2004 and in 2008 they’re making same model with additional rims, should you get those rims for free after 4 years?

It’s nice from anet to reward some of customers with additional items however this is nothing anyone should feel entitled to. You bought a game for the price and quality of at the fixed moment in time. They changed their offer however it’s not their obligation to refund anyone for this.

Not the best comparison. One is physical, the other is digital.

For those of us unlucky enough to not get an email for the 1st HoT beta test, perhaps we could get 2-6 Heroic Chests to make up for this? I doubled the amount that the 1st beta testers seem to be posting, since playing the beta is supposed to be its own reward…

Also, as an original owner of the Digital Deluxe version of GW2, I never received a Heroic Chest. I believe many of us are in the same boat. Perhaps both of these situations could be remedied. Thanks!

So many people are all “I spent x hours farming but I dont have a key and I deserve to be in this beta!” about this. But while it is certainly fun for the players invited, its primary goal is as a TOOL for them to test and improve their product before opening it to the general public.

Now, no matter what they did they can get enough people to fill out their test, no problem. But by making it a game event they are trying to give us what we have been asking for, something to do. The portals, like precursors, are something that would be awesome to have but that is in no way something you should expect to receive just because you want it.

I’ll log in for an hour or so each night and do a few events in the area just to see if I get lucky, but if I don’t I’m certainly not going to stress out over it. It would be like stressing out over not winning the lottery, you know when you enter you probably wont win but the fun is in hoping you do.

Yes, everyone has been clamouring for something to do, but somehow I don’t think that a grindfest in 2 maps that we’re already tired of counts. There is no new content, simply a carrot on a stick. And yet, the new Gem Store releases don’t cease to flow…

This… is just a bad idea. More grinding in a game that said it wouldn’t have grinding. Because for people like me, the chronically unlucky, that’s what it amounts to. See, I’m one of those people who couldn’t loot/forge a precursor if my life depended on it. Been in game since early closed beta, have thousands of hours of play time, and it’s just not happening.

So why not just have those interested apply for beta? Gives you a chance to pick some actual active players (if a player can see their character’s age, I’m pretty sure the devs can see that AND how active the account is… it is registered somewhere, those famous metrics).

Currently, as far as I’m concerned, all I’m getting is a bad Silverwastes burnout. Give me a simple registration lottery any day…

Exactly. Burned out on zones that we’re already burned out on. Because we want to play in a beta, we’re compelled to grind until we get a key. It’s setting people up for serious disappointment by the end of this event.

I like how it is, it ensures that those testing have 80’s can navigate and play high level maps and actually know what they’re doing and are active players. It rewards people that actually play the game, instead of sending off invites to accounts that are either dead or played at launch for like 3 days and quit.

This is NOT how it works though.

You can’t just put in time and get one. It’s too random. So someone who does it for 5 minutes and doesn’t play the game can most definitely have about the same chance of getting one.

Sure RNG is RNG, but even if it’s a player that only played in silverwastes for 5 mins it’s still a player that is 1) high enough level to be there 2) can navigate himself to even get there and 3) is competent enough to kill something

All 3 of those factor’s can’t be determined by an email mailing list. I think it’s a brilliant way of ensuring you get competent players into the test.

Technically untrue. I proved this point once by running a level 1 alt to Union Waypoint once (Anyone remember the farm there?) to prove that you can get loot simply by being in a party, even if you’re landing 1 damage glancing blows. Unless they specifically forbid anyone under 80 from obtaining the beta key, anyone under 80 could definitely get it.

Of course not, but it might very well be up for a weekend or even a full week or two.

And do you know why all you can do is say what “might” be, instead of what will be?

Because this guy is right:

i have no issue with the way they are controlling access to the beta. However, I wish they would provide full disclosure on what will be in the beta to everyone, even if its just a write up.

ArenaNet is (again) having horrible communication. They told people how to get access to the beta, but they haven’t announced when will the beta be, or what kind of content it will have, or any other relevant information.

What if someone spends a lot of time grinding for access (because that’s effectively the only way to get access, by grinding), and the beta happens to be in a day in which said someone is busy? Whose fault do you think that would be?

ArenaNet should at least have told us when is the beta going to be, and what content it will feature. But no, they didn’t manage to do even that.

What part of closed do you not understand. Closed beta means they don’t talk about it, that you don’t get know ahead of time unless you’re in it.

LoL, what? If this is your definition of “closed beta”, you’re sadly mistaken. It only means that the beta is limited to a certain number/group of players.

Over 8+ hours farming for this so far. I get that it’s rejuvenating the very tired current “end-game” open world maps that we have, but not in a good way. Imagine the frustration and disappointment for those who will have spent dozens of hours grinding for this beta key, by the end of this event. Some more foresight would have been great before implementing an idea like this. It’s a lame space-filler for the current lack of content, and it requires potentially endless grinding on maps that many of us are sick of by now.

So.. don’t do it?

You are aware that the betas themselves are all about grinding the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over again, right?

Hi, what exactly is your point?

If you don’t like it, don’t participate.

I for one am participating because this is a really good time to get into Silverwastes. I hadn’t done more than a little bit of that content. If you’re right that the community is already sick of it, which I honestly think is your opinion and not the community’s, then now is a good time since people are running it regardless of their interest in it.

The added bonus of getting a portal in the first couple minutes is really just gravy. I’m not even sure I want to beta test at all. I played a Revenant already and it was interesting, I’m good to go until release.

Ok, I get the “If you don’t like it, don’t play” comments. They’re inevitable from the white knights in every debated game topic. Yawn The fact is, I do want to play in the betas, so I’m putting in the time on these tired maps to have a better chance at getting the key. Hopefully this addresses your concerns about whether or not I should play or move on.

Then I will ask, what is your point? This “contest” won’t be for very long. Once it’s over the zone will return to business as usual. You can stop spending time in Silverwastes, since you apparently dislike the place.

Artificially vitalizing a zone doesn’t exactly hurt anyone or anything.

Apparently you missed the point in my initial post. The method for the beta access is lame. Also, Silverwastes was already active, since it’s currently one of the best ways to obtain gold, as tired as it is. Dry Top is the only map seeing a real boost.

Dry Top has been consistently active, so I don’t know what you’re talking about.

Why is it lame? Because you haven’t won? Because most people won’t? So? Anyone coming into this with the expectation of getting beta access is delusional. It is a carrot and nothing more.

All methods of getting into beta are lame. The only difference between this one and those is that this one guarantees a few things. It guarantees that people getting into beta are active players with at least one level 80. It suggests they’re marginally competent, care about endgame content, and can follow along the same types of events that will take place in the beta. The only thing this doesn’t do is guarantee that winners actually want to be in beta, but even if they don’t they’ll probably still participate.

Ultimately this seems like a pretty good method, incentive, and decision.

Uh, normally Dry Top has one active map, maybe two in the evenings. Currently it’s seeing regular T5 maps, compared to T2-T3 maps during the day, so yes, it’s much more active.

I’m saying that confining the key to two extremely tired PVE maps is lame. It would have been better to make it available to anyone who is active, whether they’re doing WvW, SPvP, leveling alts, doing dungeons/fractals, or any open world content. For those who would really like to play in the betas, this is currently very restrictive.

Guild Member Notes Please!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Hearte.6852

Hearte.6852

As a leader of an active, larger guild, I’m super happy that we finally got a “last online” feature with the guild UI. This eliminated a painstaking system of rank tagging all members as “Inactive” every month, then returning them to “Member” status as we saw these people online. We would then prune the inactive people after 1-2 months.

This was critical to maintain our roster bloat. Now we simply trim those who haven’t logged in after a set amount of time, after sending them mail (For when they return), instructing them to contact us to be reinvited. The 2 mail time limit is pretty annoying, but it’s so much easier now, so thank you Anet!

So if you look at the guild panel on the main tab, there is a nice empty area, which would be perfect for a 6th column. If we could get a spot there for editable member notes, this would be a dream come true. Other MMOs have had this functionality for over 10 years, and it’s even more important in GW2, because offline members are shown only by their account names.

For members with 5+ characters on their account, this can be very confusing for anyone in the guild. With the recent $10 GW2 sale, a LOT of people bought multiple alt accounts. This only adds to the confusion.

Our wonderful guild co-leader recently created a massive spreadsheet with every person in the guild roster, which includes a column for notes. She edits this for our benefit, so we can actually have a grasp on alt accounts, character names on accounts, notes for warnings or praise, friend connections, etc.

It’s another painstaking system that was put in place to adapt to the lack of a basic functionality that should exist directly in the guild UI. I understand that new playable content is important, but for many of us who have played for a long time, we’re more interested in QoL fixes such as this. QoL is part of the very core of a game.

You can build a beautiful house, paint it, trim it out in walnut, add a room addition, install a bar in the basement with 30 craft beers on tap, including the always-delicious Lagunitas Hop Stoopid, but if the house is on a weak foundation, it will crack all over, and your friends will notice, even if you add a jacuzzi with a train that delivers drinks or a 360-degree-view octagonal cupola with an elevator.

Ranked People Starting Activated Missions

in Guild Missions

Posted by: Hearte.6852

Hearte.6852

Currently any mission that is activated can be started by any guild member, regardless of rank. This means that when challenge, rush, puzzle, or bounty is activated, any guild member can walk up and start the mission. For any guild larger than 1 person in size, this can be a serious issue, as it is with our guild.

We recruit new members frequently, and even though we have policies in place and frequent reminders, we still often have an unknowing guild member start activated missions prematurely. This is a major problem for certain challenges, bounties, and puzzles, especially if the guild members haven’t fully gathered.

There are rank privileges in place that allow only certain members to activate missions and upgrades, so why does this protection not extend to the actual mission starting point? There is a sizable amount of frustration with the officers in our guild because of this, when it’s time to do guild missions twice per week. It seems like a relatively simple fix.

Hi, frayon, I’ll start by saying that you sound like a nice fit for us. I’ll follow this by posting our general blurb. If you have any questions, please let me know!

Vintage [VG] of Jade Quarry is welcoming more friendly players to our guild. We are a medium sized guild (Currently at around 200 active members). Some key points about us:

-We maintain an active website that is used daily by our members. The site includes an event calender, forums, policies, and a great home page which details fun upcoming events! vintage-gaming.enjin.com

-We have available voice chat, using Mumble. It’s always available to members, and members are encouraged to join for guild missions and events. Voice chat is never a requirement, but you’d be missing out on some good times!

-We have regular fun events and contests! View our home page to see some of the mischief we get into.

-We regularly group for dungeons, world bosses, SPVP and WVW. We have a very experienced player base in many of these areas, and we enjoy teaching others!

-We conduct guild missions twice weekly. This accommodates those who may not be able to attend one set.

-We help lead Jade Quarry’s nightly Tequatl kill!

-We maintain a variety of guild buffs, including permanent MF and gathering buffs. We activate more typically during events and weekends.

-We prefer our members to be on Jade Quarry server for now, and require at least 50% representation. We also have a sweet “no jerk” policy, so you’ll find that our guild atmosphere is warm, friendly, and entertaining!

-Any of our guild members can attest to the fact that they’re treated as individuals, not just another zergling in a 500 person roster. VG is a family, and we treat our members as such.

Dungeon community ignored?

Reading through most of these threads, it’s not hard to figure out why the sub-forum is being ignored. A huge percentage of the posts are venomous and directly insulting. I feel sorry for any newer players who stop by this forum, simply because they may get the impression that the GW2 community is terrible, which is untrue as a whole. The moderators already have their hands full with cleaning up the nonstop offensive posts.

This post fits perfectly with the mentality that the current system has bred.

Exactly, there is no need to spread out now.

Also, combo fields encourage ranged play as well with projectile/blast finishers, pet/illusion finishers, etc, so that is moot.

Also, if it wasn’t clear, I’m not arguing for strict ranged combat…just to change the current system that rewards skilless play.

Nobody cares about projectile finishers. Actually more blast finishers can be done in melee (stacking) than ranged (spreading out). What’s the point of an AOE blast finisher when you’re the only one in the field? I haven’t heard of pet/illusion finishers, so that is moot.

The current system does need to be changed. However, not in this way. Many instances stacking makes it harder, but shorter if done correctly.

If you would have taken the time to look into other threads before spewing out the same comments, you can see most people complain that their PUGs stack and then wipe, like on AC spider boss.

Another good example is CoE p1. I was teaching new players in the guild how to do the alpha. Once they all died and I was soloing him, I had them watch the boss mechanics and explained his attacks, telling them to dodge on this one or side step on this one. Next fight was flawless and they said knowing the boss mechanics helped immensely.

Illusion whirl/leap/projectile finishers…ranger pet finishers…but since you haven’t heard of them, they obviously don’t exist.

Yes, there are rare exceptions to stacking, but they are not the rule.

I give up. I’ll leave this forum to the elitists one-upping each other. Enjoy!

Why would you want to spread out?

You need to be near other people to get them up if they go down
combo fields encourage close proximity play
you can dodge while you are stacked, in fact you are SUPPOSED to
If stacking is bad, then so is ranging and kiting

there is no real punishment for clumping up, and don’t expect any dungeon over hauls the deves are too busy planning what Scarlet will do next.

Tbh I advertise for no rangers, necros, or thieves. I like engis.

That’s really all I have to say on this haha

This is exactly the attention this thread needs. Post your current favorite elitest LFG messages!

Any chance we could get more fights requiring groups to spread out and…play? I know many are perfectly content with the whole “equip full berserker, stack, buff, reflect, and chain rez or rally from downed state until mobs die” thing, but that gets old. Unfortunately most people and groups expect this type of play now.

It would be great to see some mechanics that amplify mob outgoing damage based on closer proximity, even with trash mob fights. This would require some people to actually fight at range. Some of the most fun I’ve had in game were during difficult fights that required dodging and awareness. Now, nearly everything is trivialized by stacking.

I believe it’s nursing a complacent, less-skilled player base. Stacking and LoSing aren’t what dungeons should be about. Many of the LFG ads reflect the stack-to-win mentality that dominates dungeons. This was copied from a screenshot this morning:

“P1&3 / Ping ZERK or kick / EXP only / No necro, engie, ranger.”

Obviously ads like this have been around for awhile, but I still get disgusted by them. Unfortunately the current standard of dungeon combat does nothing except to promote ads like this.

You’re forgetting that cloth can only be obtained through bags and salvaging. Wood and ore are much more reliable to obtain.

I may have not illustrated the point that all armor trades use generous amounts of Damask, but Tailoring much more so. Damask will always be higher priced than Deldrimor or Elonian, simply because for whatever reason, it was designed to hold more value. Each person wears 6 pieces of armor and holds 2-6 weapons at a time. Armor will be generated much more than weaponry. It’s unfair that Tailors need to wait X number of months for the market to stabilize, and it won’t completely. It matters less that Damask has been on the market for less time; it’s simply that it’s overused as a component compared to anything else.

It’s not a question of market stability. With some foresight, it’s evident that Damask will always grossly outprice Deldrimor or Elonian.

In a nutshell, the ascended crafting armor types are completely imbalanced right now, as far as cost of production goes. Light armor is getting the worst of it, by far. We need a lot more Bolts of Damask than the other armor types. Depending on which pieces we’re crafting, we are paying over double the cost. Why not cut back on the amount of Damask needed for heavy and medium and substitute more Elonian and Deldrimor??? For some perspective:

Current market prices-
Elonian Leather Square: 1g12s84c
Deldrimor Steel Ingot: 4g73s98c
Bolt of Damask: 11g65s0c

I don’t believe constant micro-managing of prices and recipe requirements is the answer, but one well-planned adjustment of some of these recipes would serve everyone better. Doing this would also reduce some of the grossly overpriced cloth mats like linen and silk. Whatever the case, something should be done.
