Answer: I don’t wanna!
-Every freakin’ medium armor chest is a trenchcoat.
-Can we have ideas for more medium armor types that isn’t just coat-tails and bulky coating?
-I get that female humans and norn (and sylvari i think) have a couple choices with skimpier outfits….but I DON’T WANNA LOOK LIKE A GUILD HOOKER!
-There’s like one chestpiece that isn’t a trenchcoat (and it’s variants) and i kind of like it…wish there was more to it though.
-The biggest disappointment about the legendary armor was that it was okay looking armor….THAT TURNED INTO A FREAKING TRENCHCOAT! WHY??!!
All armors are like that. 98+% of all armors are buttcapes of some sort. For medium it’s trenchcoats and for light it’s giant skirt things from the back and heavy its kilt type skirts dropping into huge skirt range. Someone at anet must have been traumatized by some asscheeks sometime in their career.
I’m sick and tired of them too. I don’t buy gemstore outfits or armors due to this.
Shame. Not into raiding at all. Too many nasty attitudes all around. It would be nice to have armor you can change stats on the fly with.
Thanks for the answers.
Is there any way to acquire this armor in PvE besides raiding?
I think I liked the GW1 sunspear outfit better.
Actually I think I liked a lot of the GW1 outfits better. The new tread for asymmetrical and unisex look is unappealing to me. Not to mention they all almost all costumes. The new weapon is ho-hum.
Agreed. Kind of difficult to show your individuality by mixing and matching various pieces when there are no pieces to mix and match and all you can do is change colors.
I pray there will be some craftable Nightfall throwback armor designs, or maybe a small collection like the Mistward set was with Revenant. Though with the track record like ANet, I am not expecting a lot. The videos probably just showed us a bunch of outfits.
God Yes THIS!
It has been a long time since I played but from what I remember Varesh was a Warmaster of Kourna (leader of Kourna) and not a Sunspear. A Sunspear Spearmarshal dresses like this;
Better then the current outfit by far. Elite paragon would have been good too. https://wiki.guildwars.com/images/5/5d/Paragon_Elite_Sunspear_armor_f.jpg
Is it possible to gift PoF to another account? I’d like to get it for my friend and myself. Can I do this ingame?
Going to:
- Make backpacks dye-able so they can match wings.
- Give us the ability to save builds…like we could in gw1!
- Make underwater face masks dye-able to match our armor.
- Flag/Change the humanoid non-combat tonics into combat tonics. Why are there so few of these?
- Change the town clothes tonics into combat tonics or back into outfits. No one uses these anymore. Such a waste.
- Mini Queen Jenna recipe for the forge. Logan keeps trying to steal the 19 or so I have in my bank….and I’d like to do something with them besides DELETE.
Also please stop with the buttcapes on armors. You can do just pants/shorts for all weights as you’ve done it before, so do more of that. Pants, shorts, shortish skirts. No more buttcapes! Sheesh
I like it! I don’t like the big, bulky, busy outfits. I liked Nature’s Oath, and the uh…Monk outfit? Not sure if that’s what it’s called, but I used it on my Revenant, as she mostly uses her staff, and thought that would be a fun theme for her. Maybe the old pirate one (with the hat hidden, always with the hats hidden). I was pretty happy with it.
Some of us don’t like the really busy outfits. I think it’s got some great style to it, and since I really don’t like a lot of the heavy armor, will probably be a good ‘go to’ outfit for my heavies.
I’m not looking for big and bulky. I’m looking for good & semi intricate texturing and a few slimmer layers, nothing overly bulky and this outfit is so bland. I’d never buy it in the gem store at all….course most everything in this game is buttcapes and that ruins so many armors that have fantastic leggings that you can’t see when running your character around due to buttcapes. Most of the gemstore armors fall under that category too, so at least it’s nice that this one is a mid length skirt.
The monk outfit had a nice texture/pattern on it. The boots were too thin and sucked compared to how they were sandals in gw1 but the overall outfit was great. This one not so much. Glad that you like it though.
Really enjoying all the other stuff. Thank god the 80 boosts stack, never used the HoT one!
Outfit is nice, and I rarely like the outfits they do, just a handful.
That sunspear outfit, if it’s the same one on dulfy’s page, is SO BLAND looking. hardly any detail at all. Lazy artist work. Not very happy with it at all
I expected better of Anet.

Got a phishing e-mail ingame recently. Here is info
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/GW2-Phishing-Scam/first#post4677555
I just got this e-mail ingame. I’ve kept the mail if that’s needed to track this person down.
4 options for pve is just not enough. It forces you to play certain content you don’t like while i could previously get my daily while playing SW or dungeons or fotm etc, this is a nightmare to me. Also, the daily log-in doesn’t work or does it start tomorrow?
it’s even worse if you’re a new player, you get 1 choice from each category and must complete all 3 for the daily. So you’re FORCED to do content you don’t like If you want the daily reward.
Far fewer choices in pve for those who only do pve. This is an amazingly crappy change. I thought we were going to get more options not less. You already did Less and people HATED it. You can’t be that clueless Anet.
Add more options!
‘’You can’t be that clueless Anet’’
Do you really imagine the game to made based on your needs?
It should be the other way around. You play because you like it. You don’t play if you don’t like it. It is good to give feedback but it is annoying to see players insulting the company when they, themselves, have no idea what they want and they keep complaining, not realizing, that 2 months ago, there were complaints about the exact opposite of what they want now.
Sweet so I don’t play, I don’t spend money in their gem store, they don’t make any cash. Great!
Far fewer choices in pve for those who only do pve. This is an amazingly crappy change. I thought we were going to get more options not less. You already did Less and people HATED it. You can’t be that clueless Anet.
Add more options!
Gawd forbid they put desirable rewards in the game to encourage people to keep playing.
Just goes to show that, in a world where people are complaining that current content “only takes 45 minutes to complete”, you will have people who complain that it “takes too long to get rewards”.
These forums are just f***ing ridiculous anymore.
Two different complaints entirely. The LS story part takes less then 45 min and is very short. Thats one complaint people have. The other complaint is the 2k crests with the reduced rewards that requires repetitive farming of silverwastes to get in order to complete the armor that is currently out.
The fights can be fun, but they are essencially frustrating for this one class that relies on low HP, slow hitting AI – Mesmer.
We had the issues with Hidden Arcana where the illusions wouldn’t hit the bosses in Glint lair because they blew up on summoning.
This exact same issue happens with this chapter. The fights are challenging BUT there is no fun in killing the boss with autoattacks.Issues
- Mesmer looses potential 60%+ of his damage
- No other class suffers from this
- There’s so much AoE that phantasms barely live (Predator fight) or the boss hits so frequently and randomly that their survival is tied to RNG (Trasher).
This is frustrating and unfair. My solutions? Give phantasms possible immunity (not that Duelist trait line crap doing nonthing anyways) to aoe, or even damage reduction? Start to design fights FOR EVERY CLASS WITHOUT LEAVING ONE OUT (its the case for necros on trasher too afaik, DS specs at least).
Earlier in LS 1 rangers suffered from this due to crappy pet AI and Anet tying a good 40% of their damage up in their pets. The pets still suffer from this (lack of dodging out of red circles, etc..) Mesmers are just getting hit harder due to the instant clone/phantasm death thing. Just wanted to point that out. ArenaNet needs to stop making pet unfriendly encounters that cripple the pet classes by either fixing the pets in these encounters or stop putting in punitive pet encounters.
As a mesmer player I too found this very annoying / frustrating.
Don’t know if i can stomach those fights again using caithe. :/ It was like going to the dentist on the scale of fun.
fyi, the boxes are sold at the crest vendors for 1g + 1000 crests. You don’t need to grind the labyrinth.
Personally, I’d rather have a 3rd option. If I wanted a key, I’d farm the personal story and the carapace boxes are easy to obtain. I play about an hour or two a day on average in the Silverwastes for example and have gone through maybe 4-6k crests since the last update.
No you just need to grind the keep defense over and over and over and over and over….such fun!
This is the worst update theyve done for the LS since it started. It’s worse then scarlet. The story is fine, even doing keep events is interesting the first few dozen times then it just becomes pure grind, which supposedly Anet is against but their actions speak louder then their words.
IF they added 2 armors to this LS chapter then you should have gotten both with the story completion not have to farm till your eyeballs and fingers bleed on un-fun game tasks.
So very disappointed in Anet. They should stop wasting time on crap like “Griffin Mail Delivery” and work on other game aspects.
Well, we’ve just had another set of stats released with Echoes of the Past (Condition Damage, Power, Precision) – great… right…? I’ll admit, there are some characters I’d be tempted to use this gear with; but they’re already kitted out in ascended – one of which I just finished two days ago! New stat combinations are great and I really want to look forward to them, but I can’t if it makes my previous efforts completely worthless.
Could Anet please reconsider how these are added to the game? Either something to make gear more alt/multiple sets/new stats friendly; or hurry up and release legendary armour* so we can be spared from this?
Oh well, mini-rant over. Anyone else got any opinions on the matter?
*It would also be nice if a component for this was ascended armour; as to, once again, not make crafting it a waste of time.
What really burns my biscuit is that not only do you have to get the insignia type thing for the new stats as a drop but you then have to get recipes for each existing armor part instead of using the DISCOVER panel like 90% of crafting does!
I am disappoint. I thought this was going to be a thread on the currently joke/useless rune sets out there and a plea to make them useful. /sigh
Of course stuff like that would be removed. Players aren’t supposed to “break out” of maps.
Since they’re the only real feature for “veteran players” we got with the feature patch, are you going to fix them or we’ll have to wait ’till the next “fixing patch”?
So far, we found bugged:
- collection of champion bags (find every tier of 5 different bags);
- collection of wines around Tyria;
- collection of beers around Tyria;
- collection of fractal weapons (not confirmed);
and maybe more of them we didn’t notice since they’re hidden but bugged.
Any information about this? I know a lot of players kittened off about the bugs and problems you’ve introduced with this “feature” patch, so a little explanation would be good for your “veteran players”.
The event with Dobbs? in Timberline has been broken since, i believe, before the collections were added and now that dobbs is part of a collection it is even more important to get this event fixed. Events should not be broken after 2+ years of release!
It started with a double mesmer team that use to offer a taxi service to the top of the Obsidian Sanctum JP, way back when that was the only way to get siege blueprints
It’s been around in games far longer then gw2. They had taxi services in City of Heroes and way before that in everquest. Hell in CoH there was a Guild Named Taxibot just for getting people into events and across dangerous zones.
It would also be nice as mentioned earlier to have hearts and a couple more points of interest and give a map completion reward, though dry top and silverwastes don’t give map completions either…course no hearts there either.
Here’s my ideas to make people interested in re-visiting Southsun Cove:
1. Sclerite weapons can now be crafted via new recipes that use Karka Shells. The recipes themselves are bought from the Consortium merchants for coin + Passionfruit.
2. The Champ Karka in the Karka Hive now gives a daily bonus chest. The various rare Southsun skins, such as the Consortium breathers and the Tiki mask, have a rare chance of dropping from this bonus chest. (These items also have a rare chance of dropping from the Champ Hive Defender at Camp Karka and the Karka Queen herself.)
3. The mini Karka and mini Karka Hatchlings are now very rare drops from killing Veteran or Champion Karkas.
They could put the rich ori vein back by the champ too. Love those ideas. Craftibles are always a good thing and it’s a shame you can’t get those skins anymore.
I’d like them to take the current island themed skins they have and rework the other weapons along the same line so there is a full set and not just like 5. Would take less work modifying the current weapons then building from scratch I’d think (having done 3d modelling decade or two ago).
Stooperdale has a point, though I found myself excited by the OP’s ideas.
The thing is … normally I cringe at replies to suggestions that go, in essence, “I hate your idea because it would mean the devs doing your thing instead of this other thing I find much more personally important.” Like somehow suggestions shouldn’t be made in the first place because they aren’t in line with the responder’s interests.
Yet here, I’m going to be one of those people. Not because I think your suggestions are bad, quite the contrary, I love them (the tribal armor tie in is wonderful). Because right now it feels like we’re going to new places and getting new things and your suggestions would be near as much work as making a new zone, without actually giving us a new zone.
So I would love these to happen some day. Just not, y’know, now.
Oddly I agree
I wouldn’t want them to do this now, as they’ve got the current story going but if they have the team, I’d like to see something like this in the near future. I feel it’s a waste of development time to make a zone that’s been almost totally abandoned and now that they seem to be on the right track with the last two zones they should fix this one.
Not sure, haven’t been back there myself. It came out around the time I took a break from GW2. All I remember is how hard those karka mobs (not the bosses or vets) hit, and how quickly I went down if I wasn’t in a zerg train.
So, I’ve never been back. Have they nerfed the mobs to allow some sort of solo play?
No they are the same but still solo-able. Reflects, blocks and dodging work fine against karkas. Reefdrakes have an aoe pull that stability should work against along with dodging.
In the end those mobs were a direct result of people that were posting in the forums
all the time that they want more challenge if we ever get new maps. And yes, i think its sad that that beautiful zone is more or less a wasteland because of that.
It’s not deserted because of the difficult mobs. It’s deserted because there’s nothing to do there. Outside of the Karka queen, the entire map has six events. Six.
Yes and this is a huge problem. 6 events on the area that’s roughly as big as drytop and siverwastes. The whole karaka take over the towns one is the most annoying of them all and really keeps people away from southsun too.
I’d imagine that Southsun will be revisited by the Living Story and get another update when that happens. Remember however that Southsun is meant to be a quiet deserted island and not a war zone like the new zones. It currently could do with a story lined sequence of events for single player or a couple of casuals, taking people round the island a few times, but nothing so gold laden that it would attract the farmers.
Yes it is a deserted island that was found by the consortium but that doesn’t mean it can’t have some activity. While I wouldn’t want it quite as active as siverwastes, something more dry top-ish should be fine.
We have tons of broken ships, some cave networks and this can lead to treasure hunts, laying ghosts to rest, helping settlers well, settle, and a variety of other events going on around the map not centered on the towns. It would need decent rewards to entice people to be there and armor skins/weapon skins would help to do that.
(edited by Imaginos.3756)
Southsun is a visual delight, yet is only populated a few times for the karka queen event and then becomes a barren wasteland again. All that work almost for naught. It is a shame for people to not want to go there due to the lack of events and the very few current events that do happen there.
I feel that Southsun has incredible untapped potential if redone along the lines of the current Living Story zones of Dry Top and Silverwastes.
- Add better loot to Southsun via Island themed skins for all weapons like the few when it was first released.
- Put the tribal light armor on the light armor from the zone events and create 2 similar themed armors for medium and heavy. e.g. more wooden/hide covered areas for heavy and somewhere inbetween for medium.
- Better and bigger tribal masks, the dinky one from release us weak. Go look at GW1 and see a a good mask.
- Dynamic events with the karka nest to keep the population down instead of constant “oh every town iz beseeged!1!!1 wut will w3 du?!”
- Add a waypoint to the central town, it IS the central town so why there isn’t one is baffling.
- Create some new events that are like drytop/silverwastes in areas that aren’t right on top of every town with a slightly longer delay between them. Have them cover areas of the island that rarely get seen and make the rewards worth it….southsun vouchers to spend on the merchants that scale up like in drytop/southsun….and add them to the wallet for crying out loud!
Event Ideas: (with various outcomes for most of them on success/failure)
- Push back karka (cull karka) from main nest/hive.
- Stop Young Karka Queens from resurrecting the Karka Queen…of course people are going to want to fail this so make a success still resurrect the queen but in a 20% weakend state and a failure in a 110% stronger state.
- Salvage goods from the sunken ships and thin the hostile sea life in the area. Random rare chests spawning on various ships that are sunken just south and west of the consortium island with the gate.
- Crab toss all the time.
- Hunt the X boss mobs on the island and bring back X trophies. X being however many there are, 2 drakes? 1 shark? Add 1 giant floaty tentacle that spawns from the pools / rocky area by the main town during this quest.
- Capture baby karka for breeding experiments / pet sales for the consortium using their patented KarkaCapture NetFlinger 6000. Then Drag the Karkaling back to pre-set cages.
- Search the Drake caves for the lost Samoflange. Add a few more cave areas to the island, including an underwater one with surface that is above water inside the cave.
- Help the quaggins try to set up underwater housing in the area. Various outcomes on success/failure
- Protect the quaggins new housing from assault.
- Clean up Canach’s left over Crazy Spore plants across the island.
- Escort pack beast from egg lady to asura gate with egg-shipment. Ambushes by poachers.
- BURN ALL THE NESTS!
- Quest chain Living Story style: Investigate what the consortium is really all about.
That’s just off the top of my head
Oh and have southsun actually get developed more and more, or at least the “resort” areas as time goes on. so that they look better built but still “island themed”, few more guards, tourists around etc….
Revive this wonderful map and the incredible potential in this polynesian-tiki-esque type area.
The Current UI for Materials is a bit confusing for new players in the way that it is laid out and a small bit of readjustment would go a long way to improve that for both veteran players and new players.
There are a variety of crafting materials that do not go into the materials tab that should probably go there and would make organization easier to understand. For example tier 6 crafting materials are shoved over to the right side of the grid in order to keep the grid at 10 boxes. They could be moved down to keep continuity with the other tiers and some current crafting materials that do not go into the materials tab could go into those slots instead.
Here is a list and visuals.
- Move charged quartz from rare section next to quartz on the jewelry line (jewelry has rares in it already). This keeps all jewel type items together.
- Move Toxic Spores to where obsidian shards are.
- Move Obsidian shards to the end of Ascended Crafting.
- Add vision Crystal and Lesser vision crystal to ascended section making it 3 lines instead of 2.
- Add all 4 doubloons to the bottom left of the rare section, shifting the other 4 items over.
- Add unidentified fossilized insects to the end of the rare section (thats 9 now)
- Put foxfire clusters in food, because thats what you make with them.
- Reorganize food alphabetically from top left to bottom right so you can find any specific food ingredient easier.
- Move tier 6 fine materials below t5 and add the materials that don’t go into the tab there such as blade shards, karka shells, watchwork sprockets and add in clay bricks. This leaves room for more fine materials to be added in future living stories.

On a side note, Geodes and Bandit Crests should be in the Wallet as they are currency.

Why aren’t all runes/sigils ALSO craft-able for those who like to craft. Having to just buy a rune from the TP sucks when you like to craft. Give us both options.
From a friend, which I totally agree with.
Why isn’t there a slider in the options menu for “Max Number of Particles on Screen” at once?
Many of the particle effects seem to me to be overly excessive and if cut down some wouldn’t affect the look much if at all. That kind of slider would be far more friendly to older machines/video cards.
Some of these are pretty good questions, others are facetious.
That’s how I work. I don’t take this game too seriously or I wind up insane and drinking.
Or maybe sane and drinking, it’s hard to tell some days.
Side note: Guild Halls were a place for guilds to meet up and chat/spar/RP in guild wars 1. That would be a nice addition to gw2.
We’re talking about it in the CDI but I still haven’t heard many good compelling reasons why to devote a huge chunk to that content when we could push for other content.
I would like Guild Halls, personally, just for fun. But when I see people talking about how starved we are for content . . . and we’re looking at getting people to put a lot of time and energy into Guild Halls . . .
I just have to step outside the whole thing and go: “Why?”
I agree
I’d rather get new content or if content gets revised have it revised so people continue to visit it…I’m looking at you southsun. Such a lovey island that doesn’t get visited much due to current setup.
You’ve been asking for it since beta? But the set was available after launch, what happened?
it was in the pvp locker and we asked for it back then from what I recall. I may even have images I made of it back then on my HD somewhere. Outfit is worn by Alastia Crow in the personal story for one of the 3 orders i think.
Your two plus years of cries to put back in a completed armor set that was available in beta from karma vendors falls on deaf ears.
If it had been available from karma vendors, I and others would have bought it in beta. I don’t recall anyone posting anything about it being on karma vendors in beta at all.
I’d be fine with transmutation working the same as the way dyes do.
Agreed.
I’d rather pay a charge to unlock a skin that i can then transmute whenever I wanted for free.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Tribal_armor
“Pieces of this set were unlocked through the previous structured PvP reward system. Players cannot currently obtain it.”
Please, can we have this for PvE? Outfit? Gem Store? Something?
Been asking for this since beta….still asking. You have my vote.
- Why does the new “helper” arrow insist on pointing out the nearest event instead of something more useful, like a Skill Point or Vista? (the priority is a problem when trying to clear maps)
I don’t have answers for a lot of the questions posed here, and I think most of them are all quite valid. In regards to this, though, you can make the compass work for you with map completion. Options -> Content Guide -> Hide Events and Personal Story … this will make it only point to map areas you haven’t explored.
That’s a nice trick. Thanks for posting that.
Why aren’t there more unique, strange, interesting rewards to be found?
Why can’t there be more Regional achievements now that the section is there?
Why can’t I shave charr?
Why do we need Guild Halls in order to talk about GvG?
. . . why do we need Guild Halls at all?
Why did people not expect “night capping” to be a thing in WvW when it was described as a 24 hour persistent matchup?
Why Fractals?
Why not more Fractals?
Why a miniature arctic fox pup but no foxes anywhere?
Why, why, why, why, why isn’t there more to the “Personality” after two years?
Why take out Town Clothes for being underutilized with the wardrobe revamp, but the Personality system persists despite it doing nothing?
Why am I not allowed to load asura into trebuchets yet?
Why am I not allowed to load asura into catapults?
Why is Taimi still allowed to be running around when she’s supposed to be studying?
Why require the effort of making another Ascended weapon to unlock the other colors instead of just Mystic Forge + Material 1 + Material 2 + Dye?
Some of these are pretty good questions, others are facetious.
Good questions: (imo of course)
Why a miniature arctic fox pup but no foxes anywhere?
Why, why, why, why, why isn’t there more to the “Personality” after two years?
Why take out Town Clothes for being underutilized with the wardrobe revamp, but the Personality system persists despite it doing nothing?
Why require the effort of making another Ascended weapon to unlock the other colors instead of just Mystic Forge + Material 1 + Material 2 + Dye?
Good questions with “time” probably being the answer….which I think can be a weak excuse as that time could be budgeted in.
Why aren’t there more unique, strange, interesting rewards to be found?
Why can’t there be more Regional achievements now that the section is there?
Why not more Fractals?
Side note: Guild Halls were a place for guilds to meet up and chat/spar/RP in guild wars 1. That would be a nice addition to gw2.
Op is complaining about Bolt of Damask and it’s craft requirement?
It does hit Cloth users?
Well, I always thought that you use Bolt of Damask while crafting plate and leather armor parts too.
Looks like my recipes are bugged….
I complained as well while finishing my heavy, but your complain doesn’t make his complain less valid. While you need 3 damask, he needs 8. That’s 8 of the same material… its always easier to mix mats instead having loads of the same.
Well said. I sympathize with anyone having to make Bolts of Damask, but cloth wearers do have to make nearly 3x as many as the other armor wearers do.
(edited by Imaginos.3756)
Wonderful topic and great questions OP. There are many more, I am sure.
GW2 hasn’t been holistically developed in the last 2 years, there’s a lot fragmentation of concepts and inconsistencies of design creeping into the game.
GW2 has a bunch of inexplicable and often inconsistent design elements.
- Why do some items (like Guild Banners or Skill Point Objects) have a pop up window and others don’t?
- Why make so many in-game items non-salvageable or non-vendor-able? (If you disable salvage on reward or loot item, just slap a 1 copper value to the item so it will at least show up in the vendor window)
- Why “streamline” Personal Stories but still have some of them send the player back and forth between zones just to talk?
- Why not just make the starter Profession custom gear (Engineer’s Backpack, Guardian’s Helm, etc.) items into skins, which would not require a transmutation points to use?
- Why doesn’t the “match my level” filter in the TP actually just match my level?
- Why can’t the game stop giving me Spoons I already have collected?
- Why are Collections (like Spoons) handled differently than other collections?
- Why does the new “helper” arrow insist on pointing out the nearest event instead of something more useful, like a Skill Point or Vista? (the priority is a problem when trying to clear maps)
- Why make NPC’s like the Battle Historian so hard to find (visually)? (Better yet, why require the player to have to visit the NPC in the first place?)
Some nice additions here
I do hope an ArenaNet Dev will see this even if we don’t get a response.
Why is the style section of the Black Lion a vertical listing with large icons rather than a grid, or a listing like in the trade post or merchant? Clicking one brings up the preview regardless, to me it seems like the Gem Store has an unnecessarilly bloated interface.
Interesting question. I wonder how it would look as a grid with the info below the items and the preview window still on the left. I wish we could zoom the preview window too. Hard to really see how something looks with a tiny image.
1) Probably easier to classify armor and outfits which skin armor as usable outside of cities than to have outfits that are city only. They probably data mined that for the vast number of players, time spent in a city is relatively small as well as wearing town clothing, thus the two hour limit.
2) Fair point, only slotted piece we can’t craft.
3) See 2.
4) Because along with Legendary and Ascended, it was meant to be a Level 80 look.
5) Likely because that’s how the character model generation code works. Head with and without head piece, not with or without skin.
6) Valid question.
7) Another good question since they drop and not bought from an NPC.
8) Probably because when the recipe was developed, silk was plentiful? But yes, it’s still twice as much T5 cloth as leather. Plus on top of that it’s used everywhere for insignia which bolstered demand to the point where silk scrapes are in short supply while leather is only used for “basic” armor components for light and medium. Maybe in the future there will be a need for Elonian Leather Squares as great as Damask has with insignia. There’s 11 million Thick Leather Sections on the TP, 1.5 million at vendor adjusted minimum versus 275K of Silk Scrap and nearly 400K drop in supply since the announcement of profession skewed drops.
1) Fair point. I can see how they may have wanted town clothes to only be worn in town, though the loss of the ability to color the outfit is terrible and I never see anyone use these tonics anywhere in town or out of town.
I think they’d get more life from them if they’d convert them to outfits…this would also promote that you get a free outfit in the game and not all of them being gem-store bought. Everyone could at least look a little different with various colored outfit-town-clothes then all the same.
4) But they aren’t L80. They’re L78, heh. At least adding a weaker celestial gem creation would give Jewelry something new as they don’t have crafting to 500 yet.
5) Yes but they had to code the outfit interface and could have coded it in at that time. They just for some reason chose not to. /shrug
8) Agreed. Hope they do something about both these issues.
Snip for length…
Rebuttal
(good replies by the way)
1) they had to fuse the armors together to make the tonic in the first place and outfits are just fused armors so there should have been very little that needed to be done for outfit instead of tonic.
2/3) Yet they went and added various re-breathers for the new level up rewards so it’s not quite a non-existent thing for Anet.
4) the stats of the new backpacks, even at L78 are a tad bit better then any other backpack, once you include a lower tier gem, so why was the Celestial one left out in the cold as there is no lower tier celestial gem? It is silly how much materials the Ascended backpieces use.
5) This is probably very true, why they didn’t take that extra step and make the helment toggle-able from the outfit tab/area is weird.
6) 3 sets huh? That totally sucks and I wish they’d put them into PvE so people could get ahold of them. Via crafting, or a quest chain or something interesting.
7) They removed a bunch of grids recently with the removal of mini-pets going into the bank. They could have added them then and they also kept adding some new materials but not all of them. Perhaps the UI guy needs to get back on this?
8) Yet leather was far more common and cheaper then silk as you mentioned so this change makes no sense at all. They should backpedal but I’m betting like you that won’t happen.
9) Ohh good addition, why aren’t wvw tickets in the wallet?
Oh Devs please grace us with an answer to these confounding questions.
There are things that you have done that are confusing and I’d really like to know the thought process behind how these decisions were made and why they were made…..
WHY?
- Why did you make town clothes into tonics instead of Dye-able outfits?!
- Why aren’t we able to craft aqua-breathers, similar to the new crafting backpacks?
- Why, after two years, are aqua-breathers still not dye-able?
- Why are there no lower level “celestial” gem recipes, that can go into the new backpacks seeing as they can have celestial stats but are too low for the L80 celestial gems via jewel crafting?
- Why are outfit head pieces linked to our regular helmet for toggling on/off? This means I can’t wear an outfit with a different headgear.
- Why was the Tribal outfit never added for PvE and currently removed from PvP? Will this ever make it to PvE as an actual armor? I’ve been wanting to mix/match it on my necromancer for years now.
- Why are there still crafting materials from two years ago that still don’t have crafting tabs for them, such as all the doubloons? Unidentified Amber could use a tab too, same with foxfire clusters and blade shards.
- Why does it take far more material to make damask bolts then elonian leather. This is rather unbalanced for cloth wearers. It would be a great gesture to have the amount of silk needed brought in line with the leather needed.
the instance “should” be by the troll cave to the east (where you get to Sleive’s Inlet vista), at least it used to be. Maybe try going over there and seeing if there is an instance marker?
it’s been moved to the beach between that rocky ledge and shore with water just past the island and before you get to where the trolls stand guard to the troll area. I did it on another character to find out where it was.
It of course doesn’t show up in either location for my stuck character and this patch hasn’t fixed this yet.
Thanks for the info
More info. Leveling the character to 40 did not give access to the messed up story. It did say it unlocked the L40 story as it should but I of course do not have access to that, not having been able to do the L10 story, which used to be the L1 story.
The story steps were moved to chapters that unlock every 10 levels, you were probably on a story step that’s now unlocked in Chapter 3 (L30.) Once you reach L30, it’ll appear.
I have a similar problem where my starting story quest won’t continue on a L34 character. it’s the L10 quest. More info here if you can look into it please.

I have a L36 Sylvari Mesmer who was L36 before the current NPE update. I have never done the personal story on her outside of talking to the person to get the first part of the quest (go get the salve from the trolls).
Problems:
- There is no Green Star on the map for this quest at all.
- No Green Star/Arrows show up to lead you there if you talk with Mender Aviala again.
- It is impossible to move beyond this and thus my character is totally locked out of the personal story.
I started a new sylvari mesmer to see if it was bugged for new characters and after reaching level 10 and talking to Mender Aviala I was able to see the green star and enter the mission and complete it successfully so this is only affecting pre-existing characters before this whole NPE stuff went live.
Possibly resetting the first step so that my older, higher level character has to talk to Mender Aviala would probably fix it i’m guessing….maybe the old waypoint got moved in the update or something?
Anyway this is very frustrating!
Monkey Paw wishes/promises from Anet as usual.
iirc sneakthief is just the high level duelist set renamed. You can buy that look from exotices in the 60+level range, named stuff like Nika’s etc..
Please, I could really use some good news right about now, and this would really make my day. I’ve wanted this set for so long, and I don’t know how many of these threads I’ve posted in. I don’t know why we haven’t received any info about the state of this armor set yet and it honestly worries me.
And why is this subject being avoided so adamantly? Even on the Dolyak Express thread, they answered so many questions EXCEPT this one. It’s depressing me, as the character I REALLY want to create needs this armor to work. It may sound silly, but I need that armor set more than any other armor.
Just… please give me some good news about this.
They didn’t give us any info about it when we asked in beta and I don’t expect any now, though I’d love to be proven wrong in that regard. I dislike pvp and would like to get this set in pve.
oh and dyes…PAY to dye something?! What genius thought that up? Your repugnant money grabbing attempt is going to prompt me to get a refund on my outfits and never spend another cent on GW2 in any way, shape or form.
Dyes should NEVER cost to apply them to outfits/armor. Fire the idiot who thought that one up.
I wish you had taken the time you spent writing that post to actually notice that applying dyes is free but because you can also change skins at the same time it will display the total charge cost even on the dye page (if you have the skin change still in process).
TL;DR applying dyes was and is still free. Only skin changes require charges.
Then i have a bug to report because it didn’t show a 0 in my charges use, it showed a 1
Off to submit a ticket i go.
This new system also sucks….or at least part of it does. Town clothes should NEVER have been a tonic! At the worst you should have combined them like you did the other “outfit” stuff..and added more dye channels.
