DON’T for the love of god, mix solo cue and team cue again keep them seperate! like the op originally posted! Seperate Team Ladder and Serperate Solo Ladder!! Team ladder consists of 2 man, 3 man, 5 man options. Solo cue is just that! SOLO…. if people want to wait for hours on end to do team cue let them, its upto them what they do with thier time, also i would like to add that AT’s were added for top tier spvp players to play in higher rated games. not randoms forming teams to get shinys even though this is whats happening

Btw, having a GUILD Q earning GUILD LEADERBOARD position, with some max on the number of players, like 25. Would help tons to bring back a competitive community alive.

You need to report those for match manipulation. They are losing purposely to drop their mmr to get a great wins streak so they got more rating doing this.

Unfortunately, we don’t have ANET quaterly report on actions done on Players Reporting. So we don’t know if it’s work. More… people think it’s useless to do so because they don’t hear or see anything happening to them.

Unranked is way better to play when Rank season is open. The match qualities are awesome. This said, people need to seriously work their unranked mmr to get the proper benefit.

Actually, unranked match-making is way better than rank for some reason I can’t understand (since Anet don’t update their algo on the wiki).

I still want an explanation from Anet for this nerf.

Staff was mostly support, staff 1 didn’t cleave like sword, gs, hammer, mace. Staff 1 didn’t make more damage than scepter or bow.

Staff 1 was bad but our only small aoe sustains medium range we had on our weapon set.

Almost all other classes have big aoe damage on long or medium range.

You WONT find mlg 5 stacks playing ranked 24/7. AT’s are much more sane than a 5 man leaderboard, which would be more about farming than anything.

I am sorry to disagree here.

3 AT a day is not enough to sustain 5 man teams. AT in 2012 where constant, all time… you could Q an AT at any time of the day.

What 5 man and spvp guild need is a mean to make competitive play with a full team.

Like some said, back in the day, you could SOLOQ in a team Q setting. Many did this even if the SOLO rank Q was up and running, since both gameplay are different.

I hope with the next EXPAC and population URGE, that Anet put back SOLO rank Q and Team Rank Q for all years. Season lf 2 month is not enough to stabilize MMR.

I completely agree.

SoloQ don’t play the same as TeamQ. Since the change, spvp guild are dying unless for the elite one that exist solely to find a duoq partner in the platinum range.

The spvp community growing come from TeamQ with competitive rewards and AG style tournament that Anet stop sponsoring.

Hey Trevor, I am in the same boat as you. I have 13 000 or so games, I did train 100’s of new players, some did played ESL pro league.

I don’t know why it happens, but it’s painful to play.

I think the tome should have a bit more damage associated to them. Nothing dps like, but some low aoe sustains from poisons, fire, bleeds or small aoe.

Nerfing staff 1 is reducing a lot the sustaining damage of support guard, Firebrand need to have some cleave options built in into the specialization.

Agreed. Staff dont give enough damage for the utilities now. With that small range the rate of fire should be x4.

I agree the range nerf is not good. The staff 1 niche did give something for support to do small sustaining aoe damage. It was always better to auto 1 your other weapon set for cleave or single target damage anyway, the rate of fire of Staff 1 was bad enough for the damage.

I want a revert of staff range too.

As a spvp veteran, with around 6k games with Guardian… I can say that the staff range is breaking it for me.

I had a homebrew DH Bunker, I did place in the plat range (barely) with the build. I am an olschool bunker guard and my build was kinda effective in the right situations.

With the new patch, the staff range is breaking my build for good. My build don’t do enough damage in 1v1 except versus perhaps, bad players or squishie dps (sustaining long fight). The range with aoe cone was the biggest part of my damage (except mace 3 and smite conditions…).

Now, I will play something else than guardian, in hope we get the range back.

Season 6 : Skill based or gind based system?

Actually, I find it grind based. We need to grind rating through wins. The -20 to 20 dynamic rating is frustrating.

In 2013 – 2014, when you win versus a big team or big players or players way above your rank, the position on the board was going accordly. Beat a top, you are near top.

Now… well, i think i need to grind game and no matter if i win or lose versus good or bads, i am still in the same divisions.

So, I think the system is better than the PIP system, but it still GRIND based.

I look at the whole Reddit AMA, and only found two things about PvP. They’re working on changes to group PvP and auto tournaments. I have many questions.

1 – Does that mean solo PvP is going away?

2 – What is an auto tournament?

3 – Because they’re talking about changes, but probably not close to being done, does that mean next season Ranked PvP will be just as bad or worse as this season?

4 – Only one Anet person talked, Ben. So is he the only person working on PvP?

5 – PvP balance is just sigil update?

2- Auto-tourney at release was about doing 5 man vs 5 man in a 2 best of 3 format. Each round, each winners take out each other until the last round. Rewards where nice skins only obtainable through that mean.

I wish auto-tourney could setup a guild leaderboard. I wish many teams could compete for one guild and the guilds have a rating. Those guilds ratings could give temporary title to reflect the rating of your guild.

This would open up a GUILD WARS. Put AA, titles and skins for this and … probably Team PVP would rise AGAIN.

3- I am not sure I would say bads… I prefer to think they didn’t work iteratively and delete too much stuff to really give a chance to ameliorate their system. Too much rewrite with such a long time span put the game or the system in some perpetual state of beta. The system should be good, fun and work for long term build up of new fun things on it… not a deletion over deletion of good ideas that just need more love in polishing and implementing.

5- PVP balanced will get some kind of re-shake with next expac anyway.

Things i wish for s7:
- MM should get 10 players of similar rating (even if they would have to wait longer) and then spread them evenly across the teams (if possible). If MM can’t find teammates in the certain range (e.g. only 1 legend queuing and couple silvers) then sry bro, go queue during prime time and not at 5am.
- rank gain/loss should be based on avg team MMR vs avg enemy team MMR
- to prevent abuse of the above points, player cannot duoq with someone way below their rating (e.g. legend with gold).

I agree with most of your points.

Saying FACTS help, but proposing solutions matters.

1- The rating system need to get better. The pip system of season 1 was a MASTER PIECE of what the rating system should be. Losing game at 100 to 500 versus low MMR players should drop your rating so much (if you have a good mmr), you would need 10 game to take that over. This would prevent intentional throwing from the get go, because it’s hard work to come again. But if the punishment is too harsh and goes on legit people… it’s become bad.

2- Rating need to get explain to the players. We can get from -20 to +20 rating, I want to know why i have that, so i can get better at the system.

3- Rating need to be positive on a match lost at 400+. This was in season 1 and prevent or help the AFK, the rage quitters or the not so competitive players to finish the game. This was a key success to the PIP system at that time.

4- Divisions and tier should matter. The best case scenario would be to have two teams with a full crew of the same division and tiers. The winner will raise his rating until he goes to other tier to never see the losers again. The loser are lowered and will have to beat lower rated team to raise again.

If that could not be obtain, never go more than +1 or -1 tier. It would be better to offer a bot system aka GW1 where you put equally a place holder bot on that game. Could be some kind of bruiser sustain build to hold home for both team, for example. I know population is low, but well… having unfair matches where I am Gold tier 3, that I have gold tier 1 and silver in my team to face Platinum full crew, is DISTASTEFUL and I prefer to play unranked for this big joke of a match-making.

5- New players should play together for longer than 20 rank.

As a veteran of spvp, I think that a baseline for good games is 3000 games. Anyone under this don’t understand all classes/meta/role and rotations. Having 12 000 games played don’t give me the ability to carry 2 new players with under 200 game played versus 3k+ players.

To enter GOLD divisions, I think most player should have played 1000 RANKED games. This would be some kind of a big step for the new pop, but can be achieve if GOLD is a goal in mind for the new spvp players. This would make impossible the cheating with new account that intentionally match-manipulation the outcome of a game for throwing. Smurfing from GOLD and + would not be possible.

GOLD is a mark of skills. Many players don’t get there. It should now be a mark that say: “To get there, you need to be a veteran player”.

But… this would not be enough. Many veteran that have multi-account already have those 1000 games. But… not the win ratio with it. If you scan the rating of most second account players, there is a strong disjunction between the win ratio. The main account is 60%+, while the second account could be 45% or less.

In that Regard, Gold Players should have 1000 games + 48% and more win ratio.

Those numbers are placeholder, ANET need to scan all account and put their own numbers into this, to prevent the cheating properly. It could be more simple to fix the account to 1 MAC ADDRESS, so to have a second account would mean to play on a second computer. This would let family members to share spvp game without being penalize.

But my biggest frustration in this matchmaking, is that Anet make me play with people who don’t know what they are doing.

And the biggest frustration of the new player, is to get farm by players that know what they do.

So, with all honesty we need a big league NHL like and a kid league like AHL one (hockey). So if you want to play with the best guy, you need to pass the first league that is the new guyz.

In 2013-2014, I did considered Ranked players from the top 1000 be in the big league. I then considered the 90%+ (and top 1000) to be in the big league. Because rating can goes down for some bad luck but will goes back up, cause you know… skills.

The big league could be the top 5000 account of spvp, the rest is the entry league. Having two league would help tons for the match quality. The new players would enjy playing with new players and farmed each other… and the veteran would enjoy having great matches without having to cope for bad new players decisions or builds.

Probably a population issue. Matchmaking has been terribad since SAB returned.

I am sorry to say, but since SAB matchmaking is much more balance for me.

I don’t have to carry 4 guyz with less than 1000 games anymore. I have more Legend something in my teams and on the other side.

SAB bring back the bored PVE guyz that don’t play META in RANK and can’t rotate properly.

Now esports is dead can you add the amulets back so we can have some build diversity again?

I would prefer pve copy/cat version of itemization than the current amulet system.

In a RPG the balance is made around attributes with soft cap, hard cap and diminishing returns.

Using those parameters in a spvp only environment would help to balance the classes with their own set of attributes.

No grind involved, I want to have 4 berzerker armor part with knight mixed in for some point holding and be done with it. That kind of system would open up viability of all ROLE for each classes.

The OP combo, would form the next META but at least build diversities would be much more viable on none-meta than what we got right now. And so, people would be able to creatively counter the META with another stat COMBO. Doing this, would bring back the evolving META in players hand. Not that kitten of nerf and buff we have, programmer trying to create META is completely counter-productive… the META game is what should make the game re-playability and it does in real game with freedom of choices in the players hands.

The amulet system is a bandaid put because the spvp team couldn’t balance the attributes system properly in BETA (time, talent or intellectually challenged…) . Continuing over that failed path for a failed solutions is pointless.

There was no healthy based team play, ranked play for teams was a joke where most of the time they either did not face other teams or when they did they got some team that was so far off their level it was not worth playing, the only useful option for most of this game for teams was scrims.

What mattered to teams (most) were the various weekly tournaments, but guess what they all died off before Anet even introduced solo/duo.

That’s what’s odd. I thought anet had some part of their system that took into account the match ups and gave you better gains for matches where you are the underdog

My guess is those top 1% players also get grouped up with bronze/silver and their average MMR is the same. The top player destroys my teams bronze/silver players and then I end up losing a ton of rating because I don’t have any top tier players on my team to compensate.

It’s not the case.

Team are made, then match versus other.

Mostly in the same team, you got the same “division” players. Then they pit that versus another team.

It’s why top player got win ratio of 60%+. The system can’t find team for them to lose.

If not enough top play, the teams should be made with 10 then split up accordly and this should be dynamic because when many play… it’s better the other way.

It’s kinda of a problem when we have a good MMR but our Rating is undervalued because of bad placement matches.

This kind of things, don’t help veteran players playing the game at all.

Hardcore NA pvper had lost all hope since AG is dead and we don’t have ESL Weekly Cup like EU.

The tourney scene was the real reward for us. Now, going in for title or badges don’t make it up for it.

Rank Duo Q had killed hardcore none-competitive spvp players guild as well.

It’s like Anet do everything to make spvp dead.

I am offering the first thief to switch 10 to 20 gold.

If they don’t, I try to not go on team fight nor holding point cause thief will not hold much in even fight with you.

On 300 thief, only 30 are decent enough to play a two thief comp and win.

Rank Q is not about skill, it’s about if you have the team mate to win it.

Why not giving the priviledge to Plat+ players to become captain of teams.

Plat+ could not play together, their avail pool of players would be GOLD and down.

At least, the captain choices would affect his wins.

Actually, random match making is not fun nor rewarding.

Before, I had the chance to choose with whom I play. Now all my choice are DELETED.

Please, discuss about how we could take back control of our GAME and not be the RANDOM NUMER GENERATOR WINNERS.

The match-making is always a hit or miss.

To help versus those issues, the rating system should be dynamic and individual. It should compare the odds you have to win and lose and give rating accordly.

Yesterday, I was with 1 decent thief and 3 no name versus 5 top 25. At least the lost at 350 should had give me some rating, I did manage to carry 200pts on that 350.

It’s why the system is stupid right now, we are not reward for our feat. Going 2v5 because of matchmaking and losing it 350+ should be rewarded like it was in season 1.

Adjust the rating dynamically and your MM issues would be less painful.

When we had Solo Queue and Team Queue (1-5 player groups), solo queue had horrible queue times, subpar matches (from low population) and was driven by “solo queue hero” mentality. Everyone who wanted to play a team game queue into team queue, regardless of group size. So ANet just ditched solo queue.

In S1-S4 people whined about constantly being stomped by premades (which wasn’t true in the least), so ANet caved and the whiners decided on solo queue. Now we have a bunch of solo queue heroes and the PvP population is dying.

This is why design-by-poll is bad.

Actually, anyone could vote for this. 80% of the voters didn’t played more than 100 spvp games.

Artificial Decay

For ranked Rating, the Decay should be natural and not artificial.

-100 decay per day is assassine.

Natural Decay:

People should slip in rank when somebody else got your rank. If you stop playing, the others that ranked up to you will take your place and you slip until you play again.

So if many people UP their Ranking, many people DOWN their Ranking.

Giving -100 per day of decay, bring too many good players in a bad bracket… it’s kinda an easy way to smurf your own MMR to get back a couple of day before the end of season to make it really good.

Even… with out RANK system, end of season don’t means anything. The Rating should continue to get UP and Down for all after each match. Ending the leaderboard, is ending your player based. Not good. You need to get us addicted to it and make us play it forever.

Don’t attack them when they have it.

Do your condi burst when their big cleanses is done.

With lifeforce managing, you should be able to sustain a dh 1v1, you need to dodge their CC tho.

Rifle engi was celestial but switch to marauder builds before HoT released.

Perhaps that build could change a bit with the massive nerfes and buff we had since then.

Too much work, won’t happen. Not to mention gw2 pvp is so absurdly imbalanced compared to (relatively) simple games like LoL and OW.

Repackaging a software take 1 week. I did it many times and could do it for free.

You simply cut the portal from the heart of the mist, configure spvp only server for your new offering with IP adress, do a new offering on the gem store, put the down-loadable file on the web site, send the link to it to the 20 pvp review website.

I think about the 100 millions potential customer.

Fact check: WoW at it’s peak only had 10mil subs that’s just a sub count not a consistent login count which would be lower.

The only game to ever claim 100 million (and that’s singular 100 not plural) is league of legends. The next highest moba only claims 13 million, and most mainstream console games like Battlefield are less than that.

Assuming that making a standalone sPvP game is going to somehow be the next League is absurd, there simply is not that many rpg/moba gamers in existence to support games of such a size.

GW2’s problem is that it simply doesn’t have much advertising, and it’s also a mmorpg which is a declining genre as a whole.

Please read what I had written. I didn’t claim we go for 100 000 000, i said half of 1%.

LOL did get that right… so it’s a market of PVP players that represent numbers any MMO didn’t make, right?

10x more population than MMORPG market.

battlerite on steam. community isn’t that big but still bigger than gw2. you have to like arena style pvp tho, which i didn’t. afaik, teldo also plays/played it.

Could you imagine an arena fighter with dedicated static characters in the Guild Wars 2 engine? I would cry if something like that got announced — and we’ve seen the PvP team make attempts to move away from Conquest (RIP Stronghold 2016-2016).

Champions of the Mists (Let’s call it) wouldn’t need any new assets, could use existing skills, would be immensely easier to balance than Conquest and — with a few minor tweaks to camera and skill effect — could be extremely easy to spectate.

You don’t have to understand frame data to get hype when you’re watching Street Fighter V.

• A camera that dynamically centers on the two players, like in fighting games
• A timer for matches and lifebars that drain towards the center
• Static characters (i.e. builds are set, maybe choose your elite but no more)
• Arena maps from in-game assets (maybe add some line of sight)

TOTALLY.

A PVP offering is different than a MMORPG offering. It CATTER to a player based.

The new MARKETING guy should read this and read all the articles and the numbers in the OP link. Because, he could TRIPLE Gw2 profits in a “short-time” with not a lot of CODE to do.

For every Helseth that quit there’s a Sindrener that stayed; So, I don’t buy that “all the pros quit” stuff.

There’s literally only Sindrenerr right now and even he doesn’t stream daily. There are no PvP streamers left in this game.

Streaming didn’t help pvp OFFERING.

Only, packaging and distributing a PRODUCT do.

And you need to COMPETE with the MARKET, not putting your head in your BUY to PLAY business model on the 2010+ pvp offering nor the actual one.

My point is that you’re not fixing why GW2 PvP has been in decline since HoT. If you don’t fix that, it doesn’t matter how many people you bring in, since most will get frustrated or bored and quit. Nor do you address GW2 PvP having a daunting learning curve to entry.

So first, the problem with GW2 PvP since HoT. The HoT elite specs have introduced power creep, but the bigger problem is that that power creep has really dumbed down the game. Skill has been replaced by spam because you now need to make many mistakes in order to be punished instead of just one. This is why so many players, including ESL-level players, quit.

Second, there’s a lot to learn about GW2 PvP when you’re new. That can be overwhelming for a new player. In a MOBA, you have characters with fix abilities and roles. It’s very clear what each does or is supposed to do. In GW2, you have so much customization which players have to shift through before even joining a match. But how can they know what’s good or bad without playing a lot? So on top of being completely new, you may be setting yourself up for failure by making a bad build or playing a good build in the wrong way.

To summarize, the two big things GW2 PvP lacks: healthy balance and ease of entry. Download size only matters for a few countries where the game size would put a dent in download caps.

This is not a post ABOUT FIXING spvp problem.

This is a post about going to take 500 000 new players from a 100 000 000 player based.

Even if the retention is poor (and yes it is), having only 10% retention on 500 000 would be better than the retention rate we have on NA since 4 years.

The spvp community is like 2k max players and this goes up and down with patches and others pvp offering on the market.

10% of 500 000 is 50 000 players.

That way scrim mage would be more creative. META would evolved faster cause people will try and see what work and not for them without trying to copy the other team.

SPVP is a good game.

But we need more players to get the critical user mass to make it really competitive and working as intended (the match-making).

There is 100 millions pvp players that like Fantasy and some RPG into them. Anet need to make what it’s need to bring half a percent into SPVP.

You know… I agree with the OP.

New/bad players should have a LOW MMR at start, so they don’t encouter premade.

Actually, giving middle ground MMR to new account is a bad tactics to milk more money on good players second account.

This would help all the community (SPVP and PVE). The bads play with the bads, the one that study, work hard and are good play together.

Character change glitch or W.A.I?

I don’t like the you can’t swap character mid game changes.

Most often then not, the group we have is not well suit versus the enemy.
Swapping mid game, offer a change to adjust the comp to have a fair chance.

I am all for removing abuse of Win from a swap, but this simple problem could had been fix with a simple solution: Don’t make it count for a Win when you swap. At least, if you win you don’t have a lost.

To fix the problem of comping, probably showing amulet of your team member in the 1:20 min mark could help to swap.

We don’t need more than 2 power, 2 condi and 1 support ammy guy.

So, people could at least try to swap with some more informations. It’s why swapping mid game was good. At least we could figure out why our comp (lack of damage? lack of condi? lack of support) need.

Removing options and features, is dumbing down the game and since it’s already a hard game, dumb guy don’t like to pvp at all.

Please stop removing features and work to make that game better. After 5 years, the additions to the spvp game mode could had been much more if you didn’t delete half of it.
