I love being right, all the time, every time.
Sure, unless the devs are underestimating player skill which has happened pretty consistently.
I remember, I believe it was in WoW, that when designing the most difficult content the testing would involve a lot of increasing the numbers and making things more difficult to succeed. However, once the encounter was not able to be beaten even by the creators after the latest attempts, they appended more numbers and then shipped the content out.
Players are the best stress testers of any game, they will find out the smallest bugs and glitches and environmental defects and exploit them, they will come up with strategies and minor adjustments not even content creators would imagine. To even consider Player Skill in the equation amounts to creating content you, and someone better than you, quite possibly are on the lower end of the range of skills out there.
I think the devs are underestimating us greatly, unless the ascended items are explicitly and mechanically superior due to some outside influence affecting them and not exotic gear. I doubt that kind of thing would happen, we will see.
They actually employed a popular guild from Everquest to test some of their earlier raid content, however in taking part they were specifically forbidden from doing it in live until someone else had done it. I forget who they were, but I remember it was related to quel’serrar somehow.
I’d imagine that these people eventually became tired of this after BWL, and then PTR’s became a thing.

I have come from the year 2012 to laugh at each an every single person who would drive by threads with “You don’t NEED ascended gear.”
Ah ha.

I would be very impressed if anything is actually accomplished from all this, but from an outside perspective I don’t see the resolve needed to hold out post launch.
Everyone knows that Anet lies to their community, their community becomes distracted from the subject, loses focus, and goes back to playing the same shallow game that they’ve always played.
I for one as a person have yet to play post ascended, it’s a gear grind. A gear grind that the game is continually being developed around, hell they’re even buffing the base stats of ascended gear for some reason. Yet, I’m sure more and more people will harp on about how “No one is forcing you to craft Ascended Gear”.
With that said:
“No one is forcing you to buy the expansion.”

So far the only people who have attempted to defend this five year old name for a specialization are a bunch hug-boxing heavy weights.
Every single on of those things that you cherry picked is better than being a 2008 Australian kids film that bombed because it was terrible.
Ascended on it’s own made me quit. It should have never been added.
Reading through those posts about how people asked for refunds, as I stumbled across the “I quit back in Nov 2012” as a catchphrase and remembered, “Hey, THAT’S ME!”
Never asked for a refund though, no amount of money could give me an actual Guild Wars 2. I simply don’t have any confidence in Arena Net as developers. Moreover today’s popular counter-culture has likely burrowed their way into the company to the point that there is no getting rid of them. Finally there are the people who hardly care about video games, at extremely high positions within the company.
Granted I still enjoy GW1, because there are actual Guild Wars.
On the bright-side even if Nexon has ruined Tree of Savior before they even left the gate, fun in the east has never been better.
Anyways, keep on Keyfarming.
Guild Wars 2 is the Diablo 3 of the Guild Wars franchise.
Aren’t you thankful?

Also on the bright-side of things, you can have a laugh at the thought that someone at some point said “Hey, this is a good idea.” It reminds me of that exploitable comic strip in which the one sensible guy gets thrown out the window for sharing his sensibility to the board.
The Mystic Forge.
Have we stopped calling it The Toilet?
At what point did mmo players go from organizing 200 man think-tanks on corporate vent servers, to trying something once, quitting, then going onto the game’s forum and complaining that a free win wasn’t handed out.
I could understand if you’re a quadriplegic, but certainly at some point you must ask yourself if your concerns should impair the experience of others.
Defiance/Unshakeable were simply last minute resorts to a rushed release, I wouldn’t be surprised if these mechanics were changed, hopefully they will be.
Koreans have higher attention to detail, attention to detail is basically my fetish. So. . . sure why not. Definitely better than the Ascended designs, but that’s just my opinion.
I agree with Mike O’Brien.
It is not like there is another Melee class, that have Heavy armor. With the option to have either more damage, more survivability, more group healing, more self healing, unique buffs, more self condi cleansing, more mobility. And all though that “Class” can’t have all the things mentioned, they do sacrifice less than we do to get it.
So yes, Guardians are in a “good” spot.
Uh, you do realize Warriors being the only heavy armor class has all of those things that you listed right?
My heavens. . . is this real life?
Isn’t eternity only worth like $600 to $800USD?
The rewards. . . definitely not eSports
“Hello players, we the developers hear you, and we think a radical idea would be to do the opposite of everything that you suggest. Does this sound exciting for you, because it sounds exciting for us.”
3000hp is nothing. Whoever created this does not play a Guardian.
So a small question is will Chinese players be able to acquire dyes naturally through game play, or will they have to use the gem store as the only method for acquiring dyes.
The bigger question is WHY KONGZHONG? They’ve been known for their misleading prospectus class action lawsuit, constant astroturfing at smallest hint of irreverence, they have a very small mmo-game profile, and if the lawsuit didn’t tip anyone off, they’re habitual liars for the sake of greed.
Also with all these changes being made to the “New Player Experience” are you confirming that you were forced to release the game early due to over arching demands? Does this mean that there will be changes to the already existing Personal Story Line? Maybe with an actual Zhaitan boss fight, instead of the balloon race carnival edition that is present now?
I am laughing to the tune of reggae. This is hilarious.
Inb4 every recycled armor and weapon from GW1 becomes available through the nexon store.
I’m pretty sure there will be a point in which the amount of content added to the gemstore will outweigh the amount of content available for SPvP in raw data.
As far as the skins go, the Great Sword doesn’t seem like it fits. However that hammer although different from the Tormented Maul of GW1, does well. It looks better than the original, got rid of all the unnecessary parts.
Shadow Form did kinda happen over night, it was perfect the way it was, people needing a brain to use it before the health spike, but people begged for a change so it can be used for farming since many hated the way Assassins felt.
As for Glimmer and HB (Healing Burst I hope), Glimmer was just that skill I found and LOVED, we ALL have that one GW1 skill we love more than any other, don’t you guys deny it
New Starburst. 8-Player Starburst-way, only 3 PvE unique enemies use Can’t Touch This. If you’re looking to speed run campaigns for people, that’s the best way to do it.
I miss old of Ray of Judgement though, 105dps from a single immaculate and glorious skill. Now it’s the only reason to bring a smite monk. Then again I think I prefer Mesmers as Smiters over monks.
The Plot.
Gonna look awful either way, ultimately a waste of time and resources.
The issues with Guild Wars 1:
Shadow Form
Ether Renewal working with Protective Bond
Signet of Spirits not being tied to Spawning Power
Obsidian Flesh
Hundred Blades
Vow of Strength (post Dervish change)
Save Yourselves
Pain Inverter
Everyone thinking Ebon Vanguard Assassin Support was a high DPS ability
Assassin’s Promise working with non Assassin skills
People using skills that are 100% from the secondary profession (I’m looking at you ?/Rt people)
Destructive Was Glaive dealing the damage it did, yet not causing Exhaustion (Overcast now, I guess), when comparing to elementalist skills that did LESS damage and still caused it.
Unyielding Aura and/ Healer’s Boon, or kick (Glimmer of Light is best elite <3)Probably more, but those are what stand out the most. And no, I didn’t use any of the aforementioned skills, I liked using my brain to make creative skill sets and use sets that actually required more skill than pressing “1” and win game. I mean really, if you died with Shadow Form you were pretty bad :p
I also didn’t care for the boring fighting mechanics:
1) Stack here using choke point
2) Wait for tank to ball em up and snare
3) Spike em downI can go on and on, but this game is a lot more challenging, and I love it for that =)
HB > Glimmer
Been Playing 8 Mesmers lately, rather hilariously easy.
New Player Likes Playing Easy Profession: THE THREAD: THE MOVIE!
Fevered Dreams in GW2, imagine the rage.
best spot to grind is real-life. It really is, & then buy gems. That’s how anet designed it anyway. PAY2WIN
Oh, I didn’t read that right. Yeah, get a part time job and make more gold per hour than you would in game.
Only if you can manage to steal an overflow all for yourself. The only way to get a fresh vacant map is to go back in time and out level everyone.
Actually… my guild has announced going to ESO, sure it isn’t the only one.
Why did they have to pick an mmo with subscription?

Runescape > Elder Scrolls Online
Don’t even get me started on Wildstar.
I’ve noticed some of the Aetherblade Thugs in the Attack of LA instance deal some serious damage (especially when they scale up), but as you’ll see in the screenshot, this is a bit TOO much. Players don’t even get a warning, they’re just instantly downed – whenever the Elite Aetherblade Thug uses ‘battle standard’ (if you have a 50 or so player blob I think it is).
And before you ask, I had over 19k health, 2900+ armor, some ascended armor, exotics, and level 80, so no matter what you do or have as gear, it is no match for this Aetherblade, and I see it time and time again… groups of players being instantly downed by this guy.
Is this truly working as intended? Because to me, it seems just a TAD overpowered >_<
Collect more children’s drawings, so that one day you may stand on even level as such a mighty adversary.
Boobplate white knights everywhere. Poor design is poor design.
So you’re saying your armor, that which exists to protect your body from attacks, needs to have more opening around the leg area?
Is this correct?
You already have Asurans.
Can we also toggle stealth on and off? Planet-Side 2 did it!
New elite, signet of spirit weapons.
Highly doubtful, they’d prefer you just wear blindfolds and handcuffs.
Taimi

He said no negative.
Exalted Aegis was easily the best campaign reward shield.
Capes never existed. Biased human perspective.
Went to Mineral Springs and capped Well of Power today. Because I was curious, doubt I’d actually run it.
If you believed all of that than I have a bridge I’d like to sell you as well as some prime swamp real estate.
Time shares, you’re missing the time shares!
Another missed opportunity to build upon what they already created.
Imagine that in animation, converging water as your bow string.
Dryad bow is already in game as a HOM reward
Not exactly, that’s what is known as the Living Short Bow, and it’s nothing more than a carved stick with a string attached.
Noticeable differences are the missing “water tendrils”, and the two toned wood color pallet that distinguished the wood from the two “dryads”.
Also the Living Short Bow uses two “salads” instead of the original “dryads”, no one likes those force plot holes anyways.
Another missed opportunity to build upon what they already created.
Imagine that in animation, converging water as your bow string.
Boring Humanoid race.
2016
What if they just took the default stats down to exotic level, removed agony, and built upon mistlock instability. After all mistlock instability on serves to create some of the challenge you may have faced in Guild Wars 1.
Transcendental armor, TOO COMPLEX FOR YOU TOO UNDERSTAND!
#Tumblrwars2
Same stat bonus difference between Lawbringer and Judgement from WoW. However our set bonuses are not tied to armor, so it in that sense is less of an issue. Ascended runes when?
To recap, kitten T2 from World of Warcraft is the same jump from Exotic to Ascended.
Do not forget that STARS beat Black Temple in tier 3 gear on the majority of the players. In some sense you didn’t “NEED” the best gear to do all the content in WoW.
Gosh that sounds awfully familiar.Enjoy your stay in World of Tyria. . .CRAFT.
Are you seriously comparing WoW itemization with GW2?
As in one game where min maxing and established holy trinity of damage, tank and damage classes is a core concept and the other where itemization is handled completely differently?
Even IF that were the case, the correct comparison would have been to compare required amount of epic gear for heroic dungeons and 1 tier overequiped epic gear for heroic dungeons (you know, the one where you afk run along since stuff just instant dies).
Still, can’t believe you went there. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
.
Are you denying that there is not 5-12% statistical increase between Exotic and Ascended; just like there’s a 5-12% statistical increase between T1 and T2?
However I admit I know nothing of itemization for anything post-wrath, as the game was barely worth following, let alone paying attention to.
There’s a clear parallel in which games they draw inspiration from and which games they do not when it comes to certain design choices. For instance Gear in GW2 more resembles WoW than it does Guild Wars. Another example would be combat and damage formulation, which as we all know is as simplified as WoW, and not nearly as complex as Guild Wars.
I can’t believe that anyone can’t believe that such an easy comparison was made, albeit I find it a bit more humorous than profound.
So. . . If you have a lot of charr players, nothing gets done, because everyone loves it!
When you have very little players playing the race because the armor looks awful on them, well there’s less incentive to fix them, because no one plays them.
Good. . . Great!
PSA Reminder In flat square mileage GW2 is Smaller than Vanilla WoW, Vanilla WoW is but a Grain of Sand in GW1.
