Not to mention the very simple fact that most MMOs aren’t considered esports, where as many mobas are . It has to do a lot more with the genre of game than any one specific company’s decisions.

I mean, League of Legends is only about PvP. It’s not a PvE game at all. It doesn’t have to think about or balance for anything but PvP.

Guild Wars 2, arguably, has a very strong PvE following that it has to contend with as well as a PvP following.

It can’t make decisons just based on PvP, because even now, PvE’ers complain about that.

It doesn’t have a strong PvE following, it has a strong group of farmville refugees and suckers that actually believed this game had anything to do with Guild Wars.
A strong PvE community would involve challenging and/or competitive content, ways for players to earn what they want in game faster with time spent IN THE kitten GAME.

As far as balancing pve/pvp I always found that split balancing them was the most intelligent thing I had ever seen. The fact that they were so against this initially was fairly disappointing.

The story was the first thing the I experienced about the game where I said to myself “Wow this is complete $#^! , I can’t believe that’s it.”
However even if we know why it is the way it is, it still doesn’t change the fact that it was disappointing.

At this point I was going to go on a much longer rant about how the music(Which in itself is great!) was poorly presented within the game to evoke any player emotion. Or how ascended gear is garbage design choice that goes against a key principle that they stated in their manifesto. Not even going to bother with the whole cascade of lies they’ve been telling since the announcement of Guild Wars 2.

Then I realized it’s 11:30pm my time, and it’s way to late to give a kitten about developers and their design choices, when they clearly never gave a kitten about me.

Duelling in open world?
No please not. I have played games that have this and I left those games just for that. It is childish and totally boring games played by lil boys that try to have a peeing contest. Yes I know you can decline, but that results in them chasing you around and shouting in mapchat/local chat what a chicken you are. even if you have it unticked, they do that.

I know that there are very adult people who like to duel and do it in a respectfull way, but those lil kids have 100% ruined it too many times to have any trust it will be better in GW2. The day it would be implemented I would leave the game I love a lot.

If you are want to have an option to duel amongst guildmates in a guildhall. Then my answer would be why not.

However the convenient scientific factor to being able to test builds against players 1v1 in any environment at any time would be beneficial to some degree.

Not that I’m saying that the combat is complex enough to warrant such a thought, but here’s to dreaming.

Today I finally found the Legendary that I might actually want, I had the Karma/Gold/Materials needed for the gifts, at most I would have to spend time battling the Random Number God for Clovers.

Later I was staring at the pre-req in the Auction House window, sat there for a good 10 minutes wondering if I should just commit to it. I just couldn’t do it, I knew even if I purchased it and had it made within the week, I would still continue to never log in.

Having a Legendary wouldn’t help me find Adventure in place where none exists, and it certainly wouldn’t make the combat complex nor interesting. Guess I’m just gonna get back to Low Gravity Dobok fashion simulator 2013.

Games that are doing really well hold their expansions for a time when another big game is coming out.

The release date for MoP was announced shortly after GW2’s, and would release exactly one month after GW2, banking on the idea that most MMOs crash after a month.

If MoP hadn’t been an april fools expansion, it may have worked. If GW2 wasn’t the best MMO on the market right now, it may have worked. However GW2 is the best game in the genre right now and MoP is a joke.

Strange it’s a very fun joke and there is more content in that expansion than in this whole game. Pandas are almost as funny as diminishing returns and RNG.

I actually like diminishing returns, it was a whole new level of time management added to combat whilst solving the issue of never being able to fight back. I don’t get while everyone hates on it.

In the case of GW2, the manifesto was also used as a marketing tool. One which, in many people’s eyes, they did not live up to nor even tried.

That is why many people get the feeling they were lied to.

And yet anyone that actually read up a bit on the game before buying it (instead of simply watching a video of a VISION made several years earlier) they would have know fully well that there would be grind to get “cool stuff” in the game.
So they really don’t have anyone to blame but themselves, but then again, blaming ArenaNet for everything (I am surprised no one have blamed them for yesterdays bombing..) seems to be the cool thing to do on these forums.

Judge Banks.9018

I am fully aware of that, since for some reason people always bring up the Manifest when they don’t like something. Funnily enough people seems to missunderstand what a manifest actually is. A manifest is not an universal truth, it is not something that is set in stone. But rather a vision of a product.

Even so what they actually say can be understood in several ways. And one of those ways is that they are talking about mandatory grind. They have also made quite a few bits of posts and interviews after this video (and before release) where they made it quite clear that grind would exist in the game, but would not be needed to stay on top.

When Ree Soesbee said she wanted to make the players feel like the heroes, she really meant Trahearne, Rox, and the Norn version of Bobak Ferdowsi should feel like the heroes, and you get to be their squires.

The developers can’t find a way to create content that is fun/challenging enough for a certain demographic to keep playing. In order to try to keep thier business, they’re placing these time gates on acsended gear in an effort to create a buffer of time to develop new content.

Personally I think this is a big mistake but, they’ll find out the hard way.

Just like that, you invalidated any idea you might have had.

Best bet in my opinion would to still be able to deal the damage of the bleeds if a target can no longer receive any bleeds. Of course there would have to be much thought and formulaic expressions for this to ever work and show some semblance of balance.

Sure you can. I play it the way I want to play it, and you know, I’m rather close to Best-in-Slot. Three dedicated weekends and I’d have it. Or I could just play the game the way I want, and wait a few months. I’ll get what I “need” eventually, and am not in a rush.

I’m playing the way I want to play, Best-in-Slot gear will be mine eventually, so I apparently can get it that way.

Thanks for understanding that you cannot get BiS in a “few” days just as I stated before. No need to write out a long winded deflection post.

But let’s be honest you probably couldn’t level a character in a few days without crafting anyways.

Generally I find the concept of dailies rather lazy in terms of game design, as they’re often represented as shallow and mindless tasks. However if they could be more along the lines of doing dungeons with “Pain Randomisers” from Don’t Starve, that might be interesting.

If I had to rate them in comparisons to other aspects of Guild Wars 2, I would say that the shoe-horning of amulets only being obtainable through dailies is equal to if not worse than the Story.

Remember the Guild Wars where you used to be able to get BiS gear in less than few days just by playing the game?

“*What Happened?*

Remember how in Guild Wars 1 if you weren’t PvP and unlocking skills through Balthazar Faction you had to wait forever to get access to certain skills . . . and by the time you got them you probably found more efficient ways of doing without?

Guild Wars 1 was constructed completely differently from the ground up, and that design got really kind of worn down towards the end. The initial idea was that people would do the PvE to learn the game then go into the PvP side of it. When that didn’t happen the game pretty much stopped being the initial concept and had to adapt. It did it well enough, but as I said . . . that kinda started to get worn thin even as Nightfall was getting handled. Important to note that GW1 it wasn’t the gear which was of much importance, it was your attributes which controlled your attack effectiveness.

Guild Wars 2 was designed as a different game, but take note. You had people getting “Best in Slot” gear within a few days anyway. You still can get the “Best in Slot” within a month for one of your choice, or faster if you’re lucky/determined.

Wait?
WHAT?

How did you ever have to wait to get any skill in Guild Wars, Aura of the Lich comes from a level 28 mob, you can probably skill cap it at level 12 if you’re efficient enough. That might take up to 10 hours if you’re not going all out, yet still making an effort to rush.

Maybe it was the Allegiance rank skills? Currently it would take 33 hours to get a max allegiance rank skill with a dedicated group. 66 hours if you were solo and dedicated.

Sunspear skills? I’ve done 0-10 in 23 hours Arjok farming.

Moreover where did you get the idea that gear wasn’t important? Having proper runes and sigils for your build was imperative for most professions.

Did you even play Guild Wars?

Now to get back on the topic of gear, after all that is what this topic was about was it not? A simple analogy would be the comparison in loot between Borderlands and Borderlands 2, as such the same connection can easily be made about Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2. You simply cannot get BiS gear by playing the game how you want to play it.

In broader perspective, why should ArenaNet even care about the guy who wanted to level 1-80 completely under-water(Remember that hypothetical dreamer from one of the Colin “smiles” Johanson interviews)? When they can readily pilfer from the WoW-plebmill, awarding them extra sheep points for completing mindless and skilless tasks, so that they can one day save up for that thing that they always wanted.

Full zerker isn’t currently better than a zerker with cavalier/valk rings (depending on class).
Since you’re stacking fury easily in teams you can sacrifice a bit of precision for health/toughness you lack, there is really no bonus going full berserker.

Imo zerker is your “starting” gear, then you min/max to a better setup.

too much math cough…too much work

and these are estimates like their exact cos they most likely arent
while its true that warrior heals less hps when taking into cooldowns and stuff
considering 20 sec cooldown on shouts
according to wiki 1500 hp power
Vigorous shouts 2392×2 http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Vigorous_Shouts
Banner heal 3840+650 http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Compassionate_Banner
thats 4800 + 4500 burst heal right there
hey thats around 10k heal right in 10 second time span

…….wait it should be
In time span of 20 seconds
Warrior:
Timer start:
2x shouts 4800, banner heal 4500 = 9300
10seconds in
banner heal again 9300+4500 = 13800
20seconds in 2x shouts , banner heal 13800 + 9300 = 23100heals around 20 something seconds
banner heal 1 sec cast and shouts instant…so it should be around 23100 heals in about 22 secs

Compare with guardian
Timer start:
Empower 3-4k heal 3 sec cast 16 second cooldown = 3-4k heal
2dodge rolls 2 × 2k heals = 4000 + 4000 = 8000
staff 2 heal = round 10000 total
so empower 3 sec cast, 2 dodges about 2 sec cast, and staff 2 around 1 sec cast
6 seconds in
cooldown waiting time >>>>>
about 16 seconds in repeat all the above to get around 20k heals over 20ish seconds
You’d most likely heal more with guardians though when you fit in symbols and mace autoattack heals. Maybe hold the line too. But then those dont heal for really that much
maybe you can add 3-4k for guardians

Id say warrior heals give guardian heals a good run for their money though guardians should be healing more

meanwhile engineers heals for around 300hp bomb heals each second just by spamming bomb 1
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Talk:Elixir-Infused_Bombs
20 × 300 = 6000
medikit with 1.5k healing power = 1750 × 9 in about 25-26 seconds = 16000
elixer gun stuff = add 2k
so around 24000 heals in around 25-6 seconds

Dont want to do the math for eles but healwise but i believe they heal the most out of these 4 classes

Elementalist > guards > warriors > engineers
with prob 1-2k heal difference in 20 second time span

But heals alone arent all of the equation in a PVE dunguen environment

theres DPS in which
Engineer (bomb aoe spam) > warrior (longbow, rifle etc) > eles >>>>> guardians

and condition application where
Engineer > ele >>>>> warrior = guardian

Offensive support
Engineer = warrior => guardian >> ele
(tossup between whether you like fury or might)

Rez ability
only engineer has that one

The engineer does lag behind the other heal specs in terms of raw healing
But bosses in this game takes the extra healing you get on your ele, or guard in
half a hit

Maybe a matter of preference
But id take engineer superior dps, condition application, rez ability(which is huge in dunguens) over a healer guardian which heals for like 5-6k more but hits for next to nothing with staff and mace. And also with barely any condition or CC.

And then theres this thread made by engineers about engineer defense support PVE
which kinda echoes my theories about the class

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/engineer/Defensive-Engineer-for-PvE-and-Dungeons/first

260 Selfless daring
43 Rune of Water at shelter cooldown
130 Orb of Light
292 Regen at 12 seconds
220 Healing symbols
50 Activating Resolve
162 If battle Presence worked
57 Empower
122 Sigil of Water

Warrior
384 Compassionate Banner (Still not sure about coefficients and only divided by 10 when in reality it’d be by 11 for cast time)
316 Healing per second with (FGJ)(OMM)(Shake)
292 Regen at 5 seconds

Just healing per second numbers of skills at 1300 healing. Gonna go putz around in the mist see if I can figure out the banner heal.

well sorry if im wrong about the engineer. I only have a lvl 10 one but i still think they can support ok

i tested medikit in WvW without any healing power. 1k heal per pack on 12 second cooldown. Shouldnt heal little when you do have healing power heal.

And that bomb spam heal trait still gives most likely what 2-300 heals per second?

also offensive support with runes of altruism?

the best heals guards got are selfless daring for like 2k every 5 seconds or so
4-5k heals in 10 seconds arent really that much. Empower on staff is good but its 16 second cooldown even when traited. prob heals for 3-4k
Sanctuary cooldown is too long to even worth considering in a healing contest. Same thing with elites.

So in 10 seconds we heal for about 10k when you add in prob symbols and stuff

not much difference from warrior
with 2k shouts and healing banner heal
or eles with all their trait heals
or engineers with medikit and elixer gun heals

And even if the guardian heals more than engineers
The healer engineer would still dish out much more dps than the guardian
Has access to probably every condition in game via bomb kit and elixer gun
while stilll having an utility slot for an easy rez
and has built in “for great justice” on group via runes of altrusim

I fail to see how guardians are superior support to engineers
Not mentioning eles too

What? Feel free to do some math, take an easy 1300 Healing power, plug it into the coefficients listed, compensate for cast time and cooldowns, find Healing Per Second.

But we’re not in other games. We’re in this game. If I want to be a support build, it’s stupid to do it on anything but the guardian. If I want damage, it’s stupid to be anything but the warrior.

It depends, if you actually want to play a healer type then i would go for Ele, they can pretty much solve that job without loosing out on dps.

A support warrior or support ranger can also do some amazing stuff and in some scenarios they are infact superior. I have a build for my ranger that i use when sieging that are nothing short of amazing.

How about a 3 shout warrior, thats 6k health with no casting time and it can still deal heavy dps.

But as a general rule i agree guardians are great supporters but i wouldnt play one as a healer, at least not in wvw. That is a waste of space.

Assuming that a warrior has 1300 healing you will only do a maximum of 316.2 healing per second. With a Guardian’s selfless daring alone you can do 285 healing per second. I’d say with all their available tools(Not including Battle Presence because it’s broken as all hell) that a Guardian can pull at least 600-700 healing per second on other targets.
Optimally(Numerically) speaking you could pull off 1080 healing per second without battle presence, and 1192 healing per second with battle presence functioning properly.

Remember that healing isn’t the only thing Guardians bring to a group, and it is ultimately up to you whether you are willing to trade in your Precision and a bit of Toughness for Some of the best healing in the game

Also I’m not counting Healing Breeze, for obvious reasons, kitten healing breeze!(Seriously I can use every other healing skill 100x more efficiently than Healing Breeze to heal team mates.) I also did not factor in weapon sigils, though I did factor in Rune of Water 6 piece. Also forgot Shelter and Merciful Intervention, anything related to weapon sets that are not Staff/Hammer.

However I am curious about this ranger “Support” build, as I have been hearing about these Juggernaut rangers running around, and I’ve yet to actually see one in action.

in Guardian

Judge Banks.9018

Well as far as i noticed orb of wrath heals more dmg then full zerker sb ranger.
Imagine now orb speed of sb arrow + #2#3 skills in chain. that person woulnd’t survive those 2=3 seconds.

And yes scepter auto with full zerk hits like a truck. add to that #2/#3 immo skill from it + fire /lightning sigil and noone will survive this kind of burst at least in spvp/tpvp untill they react fast to immo.

You can keep saying that or show some math to prove your point. In the meantime, I’ll prove you wrong.

Scepter auto hits for 195 damage every .83 seconds. Ranger auto hits for 97 direct damage every .54 seconds, with an additional 128 damage over 3s.

That’s about 235 DPS for the Scepter versus 416 DPS for the Shortbow.

Assuming you’re able to get someone Immobilized inside of Smite, here’s the math:

Your Immobilize lasts 2s so that’s the maximum time anyone will be in Smite. In 2s, Smite will deal (1200/6*2) 400 damage, so that’s an increase in +200 DPS. However, that’s not taking into account the cast time for Chains of Light and Smite that takes away from your auto-attack.

However, the Ranger can also increase their DPS with Poison Volley, except this has a wide spread and doesn’t need an immobilize. Assuming you only hit with 1 arrow, that’s an increase of (860/2seconds) +430 DPS.

In total that’s 435 vs 846 DPS.

Overall, the Scepter can’t burst for more damage. In addition, the Scepter fires much slower in velocity, and slower overall. Therefore an enemy dodging your attacks with the Scepter affects your DPS much more overall, and cooincidentally it’s also much easier to avoid Scepter attacks due to the slow firing speed (poor balance).

@Balance:

If you have a low damage ranged auto attack, you make it fire in rapid succession.
If you have a high damage ranged auto attack, you make it fire in slow succession.

If you have a high damage ranged auto attack, you shouldn’t make it fire in slow succession, AND move slowly in the air. All that does is double down on compensating for the high damage, and instead makes it underpowered.

Thank you.

I still say we should be able to consume our boons for damage spikes.

Go Radiance 10 points for the signet cooldown for your first 10 points. Honor 10 points for Vigor on crits and shout cooldowns.

Upon receiving your master trait book, go 20 deep into honor, then work back into radiance, this will give you dodge roll healing. With your last 10 points as your work towards level 60, start putting points into Valor.

As you hit level 60 you will get access to your grandmaster trait book, this will allow you to put a full 30 points into any tree you wish. Personally I went 30 points into Valor immediately. As Altrustic Healing is a fantastic Guardian trait, if not one of our best.

However it’s synergy with Vigorous Precision has been cut down by at least 90% effectiveness, as it used to give you healing every time you would crit, now it only occurs every 2 and 5 seconds respectively. Though still only heals for a small amount.

At 80 I prefer a 10 Radiance/ 30 Valor / 30 Honor build for maximum sustainability, but for higher tier end game fractals I’d recommend putting your 10 points from Radiance into Virtues to pick up Master of Consecration.

For gear as you level I’d recommend getting some Toughness/Precision/Power/Vitality mixed into your gear as you craft/find it available. Precision/Power weapons for the early levels. As precision has ludicrous scaling at lower levels. Though don’t forget when in a zerg you need only tag mobs/enemies to receive experience, so you can easily slap on a staff and stack survivability gear.

Hopefully this wasn’t too incoherent, as I definitely did not read this as a wrote this, good luck with your Guardian.

How much Healing Power is enough?

at 1000+ healing your dodge rolls with the selfless daring minor trait can heal for 1100+, with this you’re able to survive more efficiently than a knights Guardian, but you will deal less damage, and generate less threat.

Currently I’d recommend this over a tank spec due to how much Altruistic healing was destroyed, however if Empowering might’s range ever gets buffed to at least shout distance, then maybe I’d consider Pre stacking.

Then again in PvE, life steal food provides a greater effect for self sustainability than what you can find from any profession.

Also when dealing with agony and having no agony resist, having lower hp is better, as agony is percent based damage.

It’s interesting how we went from 2000+ hps with ALT healing, to maybe 200-300hps. Reminds me of the theory that I had a long time ago, that Guardians are going to suffer the exact same fate as Paragons.
