Really ANet?! Disabling a QOL item that I paid REAL money for isn’t a solution, not even a temporary. Heck, I am so kittened right now that I am thinking about contacting support and getting a refund and be done with the shop completely. There isn’t even compensation for those who own it.

Why Does Leaving DS Fail?

Why is it that regularly, especially when I log in a character which is in DS, does it happen that when I try to exit the zone into TD that I’ll get the loading screen for TD for a few second but then the DS loading screen and when my character loads it’s back in DS?

This happens a lot, and has done for some time.

I don’t recall it happening with any other zone.

I agree with Lupini. I happened to have been involved in my very first DS fight with her last week. We made it to the islands, but I could not get target on the dragon. Is this really how it is supposed to work? That you have to be on an island the dragon actually is targeting in order to be able to target him.???

Yes, the only places you can target him is on the island which his head is attacking and the island where his body can be reached: looking on the main map you’ll see two orange icons, one on the island his head is and one where the body is.

You can also of course target the head in the ‘bombing’ phase from above the island, in that phase the map shows his head and the island where the crashed ’chopper is: one tip for bombing, if the head and chopper islands are far apart use the nearest WP to the island where his head is, it takes a LONG time to glide from one end of the island chain to the other when you get an unfortunate spawn like that.

That said, I’ve done several ‘wins’ where I’ve not even landed one hit on him and not had a problem with rewards from the boss chest.

To some degree I agree with you Kerin about Tangled Depths, but I really think the problem is not the map, but the distribution and amount of events available. I really enjoy simply walking/running/gliding though TD. I just enjoy it less when I need to go somewhere fast.

True, my main issue with TD is that getting to where the events are is seriously a pain due to the map .. I also agree running about getting PoIs, WPs, etc. is less painful due to the lack of any urgency to get to something that’ll be gone before you get there.

As an exercise is world building TD is a tour-de-force, comparable to some of the Moria zones in LoTRO, the complexity of the layering is very well done, I just think it’s too complex for the use to which it’s put: if it were like the ‘vanilla’ zones where questing didn’t require you to be able to rapidly get from one part of the map to another then I wouldn’t really have any problem with it.

Having now capped 10 characters’ Elite and done at least one map completion on each I now know my way round VB, AB and DS with my eyes closed .. TD OTOH is always a pain when visiting it on a new character, I can never remember how I reached Ley-Line Confluence last time!

In before the “you don’t need those things if you don’t raid” which every other MMO forums see regularly when non-raiders ask for a way to get ‘raid gear’.

I don’t agree with that at all, but it’s common to see a section of the ‘raider’ community chirp up with that.

The bar is more easily broken after a change they made some weeks ago but it still requires people to actually WANT to do it and as Manasa rightly points out, given it’s only useful for a one-time per-account achievement then sadly this is likely to be the same as most others like that: once people have done it once they have no motivation to do it again especially as this one requires them to actually be playing the game rather than mashing ‘1’ while watching YouTube.

Just another poor Anet design decision that totally fails to take into account this universal MMO fact: if you provide content with a once-per-account reward guess what happens when most people have done it, and God forbid you weren’t around when it first went live.

What is it with the broken messages which appear 5mins AFTER the event is complete and you’ve received credit for it?

Happens ALL the time in all HOT zones so it’s impossible to know which (if any) events it’s validly saying you’re no longer getting credit for and so you can try to pick it up again.

Personally I think Tangled Depths is just gratuitously convoluted and tedious, not helped by the woefully inadequate maps.

In a zone where the meta event is the only playable content, making it tedious for players to be able to get from one event to another isn’t IMO fun, it’s simply aggravating.

The other three zones are fine mainly, AB has one or two annoying “take the long road ‘cos the short one’s blocked out” treks but nothing as bad as TD.

Map Completion Impossible

A tip to finding the missing areas once you’ve discovered the zone, using the ‘mouse hover’ technique penelopehannibal mentions is, once in that zone, at the top of the event and quest info on the right-hand side of the screen is the little direction point the game uses to tell you where to go for, say, an undiscovered POI, etc.

If you’ve got everything else in the zone this location finder will show you an undiscovered areas in the zone, which is what helped me a lot last year when like you, I wasn’t 100% world yet had 100% in all zones.

also do not sell legendaries and precursors through mail, if you only faintly know ppl. Ifg you get scammed you lose your precrursor legendary AND your cash. A-Net might be willing to punish the offender but not -EVER- return wealth lost in this manner.

Yeah, Anet won’t help you get your gold back because they’re trying to coerce people to use the TP so they [Anet] can take the TP tax in their on-going attempts to control the in-game currency values.

It’s amazong how Draconian their mechanics are in this game to control what players can do and funnel them through the tax system, or in the case of the fatuous “you have posted too many sales” roadblock get so frustrated trying to dispose of loot that players ‘lose’ a lot of gold simply be being forced to vendor it instead of waiting hours to TP it.

The key with DS meta is to get on the map around 10 minutes prior to the meta beginning, as ProtoGunner said perfectly. Those timers are literally what helped me comprehend HoT instantly.

Except that’s not guaranteed either due to the fatuous “kick everyone off into other maps” mechanic.

Sure, you’re in a squad and you can use “Join in” BUT I’ve done that 30 SECONDS after the map respawned and got MAP FULL.

After 10 different attempts on getting to a Dragon Stand map that had more than 3 people I finally did it. The problem is that with ~10% left on mordremoth the 32bit client crashed.

Use the 64-bit client.

You’ll see regular crashes in DS and other world events until you switch from the memory-constrained 32-bit client.

Who can really say in this crazy topsy-turvy world? But it’s clear that helping others in the HOT zones is not encouraged by the powers-that-be.

In some parts of the DS meta wasting time reviving people can cause problems, such as in the Towers, you see dead people lying for minutes on end with some misguided people trying to revive them while the zerg’s DPS goes down the toilet and the pods end up respawning: the loss of DPS of two or three people trying to revive one dead one is HUGE.

Also, when there’s a working WP not 10 seconds away you’re right, I’ll not bother reviving someone who’s dead, my time is better spent DPSing the mobs .. if you’re downed sure, I’ll get you back on your feet but if you’re lying waiting when you could have been back on your feet 30 seconds ago then carry on eating dirt.

im fine with raids, i just don’t want it to affect the release of other content.

Given this latest update’s PVE content was only for raiders it seems it has affected it.

And I’d argue it also affected the entire HOT expansion .. if looked at objectively all the HOT zone metas are raid/instance content in the open world, there is almost no non-group content in the entire expansion and meta like that in DS clearly could in other games such as FFXIV which have raids in which the raid splits up into separate groups for some of it, be a raid.

You do jump the same height/distance whether you tap the space bar or hold it down. You’ll just have to adjust to tapping space bar when you don’t want the glider to come out.

Actually the better solution is what the OP asks since the gliding mechanic is broken as the glider should NOT open until the spacebar is pressed AFTER you’re airborne.

Not releasing the spacebar the moment you lift off is what I’ve always done since back in the day lag meant often a momentary ‘poke’ didn’t register, my JPs are now a nightmare.

Totally agree with the OP, there NEEDS to be an option to disable gliding, I shouldn’t have to ‘adapt’ anything.

It’s bad enough we have to deal with this content in order to be able to progress ascended weapons, etc. so why the hell are they locked behind meta events that means finding a map with a specific ‘adventure’ open is a nightmare.

Right now I need Drone Race and it’s locked because the Mordrem are attacking the SCAR Bivouac, as far as I can see it’ll only be available one the SCAR lane is capped.

This means fighting for taxis to rare maps where the TD meta is being done and hoping they unlock this .. of course other players aren’t going to thank me for abandoning them as soon as this content is unlocked but what else can I do.

STOP LOCKING THIS CONTENT ANET!

It annoys me that theses things block content utterly unrelated to them .. like the ascended weapons from the Elite specs, each one requires silver in one of the abominations, WHY? Just what has bouncing and gliding for example (Fallen Masks) got to do with the weapon it gates?

Are there stats they can see, of how many people do, and finish a raid? what % of the player population do them? if it’s only 2%… I got to ask, why? why put so much time into something that only 2% of the gaming population is every going to do or see.

Anet’s refusal to consider a ‘raid tier for the masses’ dooms GW2 to be like WOW was for years before Blizzard added LFR: for years it was known that only 5% of players ever finished the early raids and only 15% of players even went into them.

Basically the HOT zone meta format and the Megaservers simply don’t work well together, having to use ‘taxis’ as the only way to get enough people together to be able to even attempt the map is just ludicrous .. whatever happened to the concept of SCALING Anet?

You could likely level up in the late 70s doing zone metas but you’ll die a lot if any mob decides you look tasty, mobs start at level 80 and some event trash are 81/82.

One thing I noticed in the last few runs I’ve done is that often the pools appear and the female Hylek’s warning to “keep clear of the whirlpools” can happen right at the moment Tequatl goes invulnerable as he’s preparing to take off for the first time.

So, one possible cue is to keep a close eye out for that icon and quickly look around for the orange disc and the tendril animations.

This happened today on a high DPS map, the pools still appeared but it’s easy to be focused on the take-off and arrival of the ‘defend the batteries’ event and miss the pools.

So my Engineer just unlocked Scapper, the Tier 1 Fix-r-Upper achievement (bestowed when the Hammer Usage trait was unlocked) is the last one earned as shown in the Summary and I am now shown as 3/7 on tier 2.

I have the Scapper’s Hammer item, I got the Gift of Hidden descent .. AND Engineer’s Cache BUT I’m only 20% complete on Verdant Brink!

I got both the Gift of Hidden Descent AND the Engineer’s Cache at the same time, which obviously is wrong.

Clearly this is the first Engineer to unlock Scrapper (from the T1 shown in the Summary) and she has NOT completed any map!

Are you using the 64-bit client, if not do so, it will likely fix the problem

Crashes in world events are common, especially right at the end when the boss dies which may be what you’re seeing (I had several of those for instance), due to memory problems which the 64-bit version overcomes.

Ignore the fact the 64-bit still has a ‘beta’ tag, it was released three months ago and large numbers of players use it, I’ve not had a single crash with it, though some people have but then they had it much worse with the 32-bit one.

@flog – the trouble with that argument is, no matter what you consider important, someone else will say to you that there are more important things.

Very true, but in a medium where people ask for things and sometimes, rarely, the developers actually listen it’s important to ensure the developers get an accurate picture of views and so those that disagree have a reason to say so.

I will admit, when I’m in a squad, I will invite anyone with us who isn’t in the squad.

I resent what in most other MMOs is referred to as ‘ninja invites’ and refuse them out of hand, if I wanted to join your squad I’d do so using the tools the game provides me with: the only time I do accept a ninja invite is if the invite came in from a squad I was intending to join but hadn’t got to them yet (keep in mind the map-based method of joining a squad was broken until recently and I still sometimes forget it works now).

I usually do join squads in HOT metas (I see no point in joining squads in events like Tequatl) but there are odd times when I don’t.

I have a Warrior and gave him 6 Speed runes, which give him +20% Swiftness Duration.

The tooltip for Warhorn skill 4 (Charge) says “Swiftness (13 1/4s)”, yet when I use the skill the buff lasts the same 12 seconds as the skill’s cooldown, the buff expires right at the same time as the skill comes off cooldown which the tooltip says is 12 secs.

To me that’s a bug, but is there some hidden mechanic it work defeating the supposed 13 1/4s time?

By no means am I saying legendaries should be cheap or easy to get, just some of the items to craft them need some more reliable methods of coming into the economy

I’m not in favor of 2250 orbs/doubloons/crests either. I think its stupid to require 9 of each for just 1 amalgamted…

But that being said, Anet said they wanted this to be a legendary journey. They are not catering to people who want a legendary the day that it is available. They want to think that you will spend months and months grinding as a goal to get your legendary, hence the ridiculousness of some of the precursor crafting costs as well.

So yea, I don’t like how much it costs for just one component of the total legendary, but this is Anet afterall

Sorry, I don’t agree with what you think Anet’s motives are, if they wanted that they’d have made Legendaries BOA like Ascended, instead they allowed them to be sold to the very rich at the expense of everyone else.

As this thread points out, clearly the rate at which components spawn is controlled to provide for a certain Legendary production rate which is intended to create a certain price level, it’s nothing to do with a ‘legendary journey’ it’s all to do with a ‘legendary bank balance’.

I’ve seen the popup in DS while at the towers, I’ve seen the popup in Harathi with 50+ people killing the boss.

At the other end of the scale I’ve had ‘server full’ trying to taxi into DS 30 SECONDS after the map spawned.

Broken tech. is broken tech.

Also, talking about DS closing why the hell does it kick everyone out before it resets. Every other map can be organised before-hand and as soon as it resets we can begin, with DS this can’t be done because the map closes and forces everyone to other maps and it’s NEVER the case that a squad stays together, let alone the three needed for a map meta.

I’d love to know why someone if Anet thought with was a Good Idea, because it isn’t, it’s moronic with no benefit to players it only makes it more of a PITA getting a ‘good’ map than it would be otherwise.

Ditto, even though I appreciate the suggestion, I really don’t want to use a BETA client. Get it in final and I will use it. I never had DC before unless there was an ISP problem. It really does need to be fixed. Maybe I wouldn’t care too much if I could restart and rejoin my squad, but even that didn’t work. Or I didn’t have wait so long for the event to start again. In this instance today it seemed the entire map and everyone on it was gone. Just me changing to a beta isn’t going to fix that. I really am not convinced that the problem is on the customers side in this instance at all. Since a patch appears to have made it happen more (OPs’ post), I highly doubt it.

Not using something which has helped tens, likely hundreds of thousands of people simply because it’s got a ‘beta’ tag is the supreme case of ‘cutting your nose to spite your face’, but hey, it’s you with the problem, mine went away when I started to use this BETA software.

I’d also say that I respectfully disagree with Jon Olson. Yes, I know his job title clearly shows he’s a developer but there are people who will swear that their DCs in places like DS STOPPED when they switched to the 64-bit client.

My own development experience over 40 years tells me that OOM problems can manifest in several ways and while there may be one major symptom of the 32-bit client going OOM it’s quite possible something else could break, and a network connection is one of them.

The client gives no useful diagnostics at all when it DCs, and most discussions/bug reports simply presume it was an ‘internet glitch’, rarely is the server considered (yet we know servers can cause DCs) and the client is pretty much immune to suspicion.

Given that the RNG in this game, like all software is really a PRNG, where pseudo is a critical issue as no software-only RNG can ever be truly random, it requires a seed value.

Now, there are certainly some games where the seed is generated when the character is, and since a PRNG is never truly random it’s entirely plausible that a PRNG seeded from a value created per-character CAN appear to be biased towards some characters as compared to others.

I don’t believe Anet have ever stated how/when their seed values are generated so we can’t know if GW2 could theoretically suffer from this.

Until Anet produce the mathematical ‘fingerprint’ of their PRNG’s output we can’t know how good (or bad) it is in this respect: and of course they never will, no MMO developer has ever done so and so all MMO forums have posts arguing the PRNG in that game is ‘biased’.

Can we LOSE this fatuous roadblock?

Take DS, given the stupid way the map kicks you out so people can’t organise before this happens as they usually end up on different maps afterwards, the moment the new maps open a flood of taxis appear .. BUT, it’s very common to get the “MAP IS FULL” even 30 seconds after the map opens.

So, you have to leave party and try again, and if you hit the same party of one on the same of different map you end up after only a handful of attempts LOCKED OUT for umpteen minutes which usually means you’ll not get on a map with any chance of success.

Suggestion- add HoT dailies

It would harm the non HOT players for the reasons I’ve already stated.

I don’t PVP so I’m ‘harmed’ by not having 8 out of the 12 daily options available to me .. that’s my choice, same as someone who CHOOSES not to buy HOT.

That said, I don’t agree with this suggestion, assuming the OP is suggesting a zone meta is selected for the day .. and given that the HOT zonse are meta-or-die affairs there’s nothing else to have as a ‘daily’, unless you’re going to suggest a daily Adventure, but I can’t believe you’re that much of a masochist .. Anet haven’t provided any figures about the percentage of failed metas over successes but I expect the success rate is a pitifully low percentage .. not least because so many events in the chains are bugged and stall!

i’d balance by looking at pvp.

class balance is how the classes compare and work w/ each other… how they “balance” each other out.

only way to do that is in pvp… where u have classes compared to each other

PVP and PVE balance are entirely different things, one of the things many PVEers like me loathe about MMOs is that usually the devs. balance the PVP side due to the endless complaints from PVPers and the result is usually detrimental to the PVE side of the game.

GW2 has been no different and I expect it sadly to remain so.

Is HOT available in the TC in-game? If so, maybe that would work, my game doesn’t list it but then I do have HOT so I guess the TC may not show it.

Did you simply try re-booting to see if that freed up the .EXE, it certainly should do.

If a simple reboot doesn’t work you could try booting to Safe Mode to see if that can allow you to delete the .EXE.

You are using the 64-bit client I assume, if not the 32-bit has numerous problems which cause crashes and DCs especially in world event boss fights and quite possibly raid events too.

As for the Repair not completing, how long did you leave it? I had to use it in the last few days when after playing the game with the patch still downloading .. the launcher showed the game was ‘playable’ that session was fine but next time I ran the launcher I got the ‘corrupt’ message .. and the repair took a LONG time and at times the bar didn’t move for minutes at a time.

Pity the permanent Airship Pass was removed, the two week one is seriously less than equivalent, I’d buy the permanent one, certainly won’t ‘rent’ the feature for two weeks at a time.

After trying to get this achievements so many times, changing map and searching for a coordinated one with no results, Anet i ask to you to avoid this kind of cooperative achiev., or achiev. that involve so many people, because 2-3 days after the release no one helps to get those anymore. I’m personally stuck at 7/20 of no-fly zone, but every time i see only 10-15 player that helps in the break-bar phase, and they aren’t enough.
Don’t come to say “search for a cc map” because it’s what i did. But nothing changed.
Perhaps by encouraging players to continue to try to break his bar regardless if they have completed the achiev . Please forgive my language errors, i’m not english.

To be honest, I don’t feel this is a problem of ArenaNet’s. There are content meant for single player. There are content meant for coordinated groups. The Shatterer, being an Open World boss is meant for coordinated groups.

Very true, but gating an ACHIEVEMENT behind group content is of course facile, you can AFK it and get the achievement if everyone else does the work for you.

I’ve never understood how people can think there’s any ‘kudos’ in a title or gear that others got for them, they simply turned up to get credit for it.

IMO there are many titles not worth having due to that, a few like “Been There, Done That” are worthwhile because you can’t easily leech much of it off others, though leeching Mesmer portals for Vistas does devalue it to some extent, IMO using that mechanic should invalidate that particular attempt .. but achievements like Shatterer, Tequatl, etc. have no meaning.

That said, OP there are maps daily where No Fly Zone can be progressed, though it’s still easy to fail Smash The Dragon due to people not paying attention the whole fight.
