Living Story has negative connotations from the tepid reception of season one.

Seems to me the name `Living World´ came about essentially to set season two apart, even though it is exactly the same thing in every way.

I’m pretty sure it’s been officially called Living World since at least summer 2013. It’s just that most players stuck to calling it by its first name from Flame and Frost, Living Story.

You’re really asking for an MMO nirvana here. It has been desired in all MMOs from day one and has until recently been impossible to deliver. Instances have been the way of showing different players different things. I think it will be almost impossible for GW2 to be retrofitted to do this for wide areas of the open world though they can probably hide some objects and NPCs. Elder Scrolls had this sort of mixed timeline and although I thought it looked ok (in beta), lots of others have complained that it didn’t really work and looked confusing. Just imagine some people walking along the high vines in Concordia and others being unable to see the vines!

I don’t think they need to do what ESO did, and I really don’t think they should. (Btw, this is a GW2 forum so stay on topic.) They could just keep the open world areas changeable as they are now and then make sure the story instances can’t change from their initial state regardless of what happens in the open world. The instances currently don’t change depending on the state of the dynamic events in the open world, so why should they change as a result of what happens in the living world story?

The reason why Season 1 isn’t in the journal yet is because the content and story wasn’t made with the journal in mind, so they’d have to make major adjustments to the content if they were to release it in the journal.

And you were assuming correctly that the living world content was free. It’s just that it was temporary before. Still, some of the previous LW content was permanent. Some of it has been converted into fractals. Southsun Cove was added as a free permanent world map, even if you don’t have access to the temporary stories and one-time events that were going on there at the time of its release. Other living world changes in the past were additions of world bosses and revamps of existing ones. They also added a new path to the Twilight Arbor dungeon. But most of the content was temporary.

Season 1 of Living World was mostly temporary content and story which isn’t available yet in the story journal, no. They recently added the journal to the game, in which you can unlock the story and play it whenever you want in the future, as long as you logged in when it was active. If you didn’t log in while it was active, you can buy the episode from the gem store for the cheap price of 200 gems (which you can buy with in-game gold). If you bought the game and logged in this weekend, you should have unlocked all the story (just 2 episodes under Living World Season 2) that has been released in the story journal so far. Season 1 hasn’t been released in the story journal to be replayable yet, but ArenaNet have said they want to release it someday in the future. They haven’t said if it will be free for everyone or if new players have to pay for it though.

No, that’s not how it works, Hyper. EACH character on your account must complete the story to unlock the ability to do the achievements on that character. For example, if I did the story the first time on Mesmer, the achievements are unlocked, but if I then did the story on my Ranger (her first time), I would still not be able to complete the achievements. I must either redo the story on my Mesmer, or complete it on my Ranger and THEN redo it on my Ranger.

Pretty sure Hyper wasn’t claiming it’s actually working the way he said, but that it should work like that.

As I said, I previously felt that the achievements were in the way of me enjoying the story on my first playthrough. Having the achievements there makes you focus on the achievements, so you can get them quick, instead of focusing on the story. It’s like when developers of a game force you to watch a cutscene the first time you get it. They do it so you’ll actually pay attention to the story. I personally feel I’m enjoying the story alot more now, mostly due to increase in quality but also due to this change.

No thanks. I wouldn’t want to be thinking about achievements on my first playthrough of the new stories. I just want to immerse myself and enjoy the story as it is, without having to think about getting all the achievements/rewards right away. The achievements would actually get in the way of me enjoying the story on the first playthrough. They certainly did in season 1. Therefore this is a positive change, imo.

I agree. The same thing goes for the story instances in LA, where everything is now destroyed despite the fact that personal story, according to anet, occured before season 1 of living world. I also remember that previously they still had that NPC in the instance, still talking about the lion statue as if it was still there, even though Mad King had destroyed it a few months back. They really need to do something about this type of stuff. Personal story instances shouldn’t be affected by the living world content/story. The way it is now is very confusing and just doesn’t work.

It’s not a bug. When you complete a story step with another player, it asks if you wish to accept progress and advance to “name of next story step.” If you want to keep playing with that other player and accept progress, it will move you both to the next step together, even if your character normally wouldn’t follow that storyline. The alternate would be to NEVER allow you to accept progress, which would make playing co-op rather annoying, since you’d have to play each story step once for every player.

A simple solution to this would be to show a warning message when a player would have no way of ending up in the next storyline without playing co-op. This would make it alot more clear to us players so we don’t make the mistake to begin with, and you wouldn’t have to explain time and time again on the forums that “This is intended”.

Yeah, you can craft, use the bank, trading post and laurel vendor in WvW already so why not in PvP? These weren’t really needed before, when PvP was completely separate from the rest of the game, but now it makes sense..

Get ready for a flood of “OMG this game is free-to-play, they need to make money somehow, ANet is my lord and savior” posts.

I understand all of this.

I just want gem store stuff to be available through hard work without paying money as well; bosses too could give us more substantial rewards.

And MONEY. MORE MONEY. Like, one gold per Scarlet Hologram run.

But it is available through hard work through the currency exchange (Gold → Gems).

Also, I think we get a whole bunch of stuff worth selling. I usually get like 3-4 rares, a few backpiece color thingies worth almost 1g each. Also you get a bag which has a chance to drop items from earlier Living World patches. Yesterday I got a mini molten firestorm, which is worth ~100g for instance.

Look for a world in your region (EU/NA) on the list in which Arah says OPEN. This means the meta event has been pushed and completed on that server recently. Then go to character select in-game, press world selection and guest to that server. Now you will be able to go to the entrance of Arah without a problem.

As to why the aesthetic has changed, it’s likely attributable to Kryta basically being a melting pot now, with significant populations from four very different nationalities.

Doesn’t look like a melting pot to me, more like a classica Medieval/Rennaissance city. There WAS a combination of Asian, Middle Eastern and European architecture styles in history, called orientalism and chinioiserie , not to mention the Moorish Spain which was a very organic mix of Western and Eastern cultures – and extremely advanced for its age, too. That’s what DR should have looked like it if was supposed to be a “melting pot”.

Go to the Ossan Quarter in DR. You gotta admit that’s a very elonian looking district (north african inspired). The developers also originally intended the area in DR now known as the Crown Pavillion to be a Canthan (asian inspired) district, but, if I remember correctly, due to the feedback they got from asians (“You can’t mix our very distinct architectures like that!”), the developers decided to remove it entirely and replace it with a big hole called The Great Collapse. Other than that, I’d say DR is mostly a melting pot between Krytans (mediterranean-ish) and Ascalonians (europeans).

If you’re can’t see that the change is needed for the game to function better, then you’re either blind or in denial.

Really? Think outside the box for a sec.

They could for example have increased the price of them at the vendor. A higher price means less people will find them worth buying, and the ones who do buy them will save them for when they really need them.

They could have had a maximum amount of summoned companions in a map, so it couldn’t get filled up and affected server performance.

There are other, better solutions to this problem than a 30 minute cooldown, and if you can’t see that, you’re either blind or in denial.

I’ve completed this daily like 50 times earlier, I always do what you just said and buy the lowest price food. I have never ever before had it not work. I went on here to report the bug, not to get instructions. If there is food that doesn’t work for the daily then that means it’s bugged. Thanks anyway though.

I can confirm this is happening on the desolation main server. There’s loads of people just standing there picking up gifts, exploiting the bug. They’re way too many for me to be bothered to report them though.

Yeah, the number for how many times it’s been completed should still increase so that might be a bug. The AP thing works as intended though. 250 is the maximum amount of AP you can gain from this.

I play on a server with a Very High population, and whenever I’m in Lion’s Arch, the current Living World area, Sparkfly Fen, etc. I get put on an overflow server with a queue that goes on for hours.

I don’t think merging servers is the answer to this, at least not for PvE. I think they should change this system to first put players from higher-populated worlds onto lower-populated servers’ versions of that map instead of putting us in overflow, and when all low-populated maps are filled up, then put me on overflows. This way people will have more people to play with on all servers without having to deal with overflow and queues.

The same goes for WvW queues. If you dc after finally getting into the WvW map, you’ll have to queue again.

Or if you dc while in combat in WvW, when you then log in, you’ll find your character defeated in the PvE world, having to pay a waypoint and repair cost for no particular reason.

Or if the instance owner of a dungeon (the person who entered it) disconnects, the whole party is kicked out..

GW2 really needs to be able to handle disconnects better. This is stuff that happens to everyone and the systems are punishing people for no reason. It’s really frustrating.

I don’t get why some people keep saying the sandbox model is automatically better than the theme park model. This game is doing pretty well as it is, and theme park MMOs are generally alot more popular and successful than the sandbox MMOs out there (which are usually quite niche) right now.

Just stating that you don’t feel like playing GW2 because it isn’t a sandbox does nothing without giving us a proper reason for why this should be changed. This game was from the very beginning conceived and designed as a theme park, but a theme park unlike any other MMO out there, which it certainly is. ArenaNet won’t change their whole game from the bottom up just because you don’t like the theme park model.

If you’re looking for a sandbox MMO, GW2 just isn’t your game. There are plenty of sandboxes out there. I played RuneScape and GW1 in parallel to each other back in the day, and there’s nothing wrong with playing a sandbox in parallel to GW2 either since it has no sub fee. Just jump in when you feel like it.

Same here, I only failed on one command where it kinda bugged out. Only got 25 trick or treat bags aswell. Others who failed alot got the mask anyway. I see lots of other people in Desolation LA map chat who didn’t get the mask.

Would be nice, but remember that one of the reasons ArenaNet has been able to pump out so many back pieces and weapon skins is because they aren’t dyeable, unlike armor. If every single weapon and back piece were to be dyeable, they’d take alot more effort and time to implement, so I believe this is a case of more weapon skins vs. dyeable weapons. I personally prefer the former.

Err.. Minigames in GW2 are called “Activities”, not “Games”. Why would they then call it “Daily Game Participation”? I can see people getting more confused by that. “Game participation? Oh, I just need to log on to GW2 a day to get it?”

The biggest problem with the temporary APs (daily/monthly and living world) as I see it is that there’s no way for new players to be able to catch up in AP, at all. Poor chinese players. When GW2 launches over there, they’re already 7-17k AP behind everyone else, and they’ll have no chance to participate in the living world stories and achievements that have been in the game so far either. The AP leaderboards are imo very invalidated by this, as the #1 player is simply the person who picked up the game early and played 24/7 and only focused on the achievements from the very start.

Removing the cap on the AoE achievement wouldn’t solve the problem either, as you can simply buy gems, convert it to gold and buy your way to the #1 spot in the leaderboards. Pay to win, in other words. Not competitive at all.

I think they should implement some sort of system where you can access and complete old unfinished daily/monthly achievements if you’ve completed the current daily/monthly. The old dailies wouldn’t reward you with laurels or anything else, just AP. It would still take the same amount of time and effort to do them, and that way you’d at least have the ability to catch up instead of being locked out because you started the game too late or was away for a week or two. Furthermore, they really should open up the old Living World achievements, at least for recurring content such as halloween, wintersday and dragon bash.

The fire elemental was made harder and that was ArenaNet’s intention. The old version of this boss fight had no danger at all. You shouldn’t expect these world bosses to simply be about DPS as they were before. You all need to learn how to avoid its attacks etc. This is no bug, neither is it impossible seeing as you managed to defeat it.
