I’ve never bothered with legendary weapons, but greatly miss living story and other new content, so this is a plus for me. Moving devs from highly limited and time intensive content to very open content is a wise decision overall given the current climate.

I cannot do further steps of HoT Sign Cutting story quest… cannot interact with the sign from Rox. Bug occurred after the patch that removed mastery requirement. I really want to finish off the story. It has been a week …

I also had this issue. As a work-around, I dropped this chapter and picked up the previous chapter, moved to a different map, restarted this chapter, and returned to Tangled Depths. If you interact with the tracks before the green star appears over them it can bug the quest, and also doing this quest in a party with other people on this step can bug the quest. Basically just go to the spots and avoid pressing F till the star appears over it for a second or two and you should be good. This work around worked for me as well as several guild members.

The Minstrel’s Jewelry Recipe Book allows you to choose the Freshwater Pearl Orichalcum Ring and Freshwater Pearl Orichalcum Earring, but instead of the Freshwater Pearl Orichalcum Amulet recipe it instead offers “Charged Ambrite Orichalcum Amulet” recipe. It seems like the Sinister Jewelry Recipe Book item was used to template this one and someone forgot to change over the amulet recipe to the Freshwater Pearl one.

If they get the $100 deal they technically could be getting it if they choose to do so. The way I view the LS is that it is still time limited, its just a perk that you can now play it over for more rewards if you were there to play it the first time or purchase it. They’d still be missing season 1, which overall I think would be more important to the story, as it has us celebrating the end of the personal story, the introduction to the zephyrites, scarlet, and mordremoth stirring.

It isn’t necessary, and respecs are cheap in this game anyway. However, it is convenient to not have to port to a City/Outpost to reset them completely. The game can certainly be played without it, but for min/maxers or strategists it is nice to be able to do X and then switch to Y when you want to. I would enjoy being able to set specific templates to be able to switch to, even if I had to go to a city to change them.

I only delete my alts when I want to try a new class (and the alt is under lvl 20ish). I’ve been too cheap to buy a character expansion slot thus far, but ideally I’d open some more instead of deleting them. Another reason is to unlock all the class mechanic hints for the hints achievement.

Arguments in favor of healing signet?

in Warrior

Posted by: Mistro.3059

Mistro.3059

Comparison of the 3 warrior healing skills (with 300 healing power):

Healing Signet:
407 per second x 60 seconds
= 24,420 heal per minute

Healing Surge:
(at full 3 adrenaline bars)10,270 × 2 (every 30 seconds)
= 20,540 heal per minute

Mending:
removes 3 conditions and applies 5,540 healing after the removal x 5 (every 20 seconds)
= 27,700 healing per minute, plus possible 15 conditions removed per minute

Basically the main beef people have is that Healing Signet is passive, but the other two are fairly comparable to superior if used properly.

Mending is basically all-purpose, Healing Surge is anti-burst, and Healing Signet is set it and forget it. Healing Signet is literally susceptible to burst, as activating it will break the passive effect, lowering possible healing by nearly 5k per minute and providing a small heal (meaning activating it just once makes this skill worse than the others).

How To Get Started In WvW

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Mistro.3059

Mistro.3059

Gearing depends on your build, which you won’t really come into till you hit 60-80. You will get up-leveled till then, but that is visible to opponents who would consider you an easy target. One of the nice things is that you can gear up pretty much instantly at 80 if you have the gold/karma, so you don’t have to worry about that, and WvW builds/tactics shift after most patches.

If you want to WvW pre-80, Zergs are probably your best bet. WvW exp gives you points to improve different aspects of WvW, such as dealing more seige damage, improving defense against NPCs in WvW, and increasing your effectiveness in building/repairing the environment. I wouldn’t worry too much about them as you’ll get them in time, but group play will undoubtedly net you more points than solo roaming.

Some small tips:

-always carry a condition removal ability
-always carry a stun break ability
-avoid glass cannon builds (no defense at all)
-take supply from supply camps only unless instructed
-the blue arrows on the maps are commander players, and generally lead the battles as people will congregate to them (anyone can become a commander, so don’t expect them to be great at leading a force just because they have the tag)
-white crossed swords on a location indicates it is under attack, orange crossed swords in open areas indicates a large skirmish of players
-explore the maps, people will often call out locations of battles, it is wise to memorize them

Dragonite Ore...

in Crafting

Posted by: Mistro.3059

Mistro.3059

I’m on my third weapon as of today. Having multiple lvl 80 characters helps with Empyreal Fragments and Dragonite Ore, but with the LFG tool the Empyreal Fragments will become much easier to get with only one character.

I think Dragonite Ore could use a bit more normalizing, say 10-15 for low level bosses, 20-25 for mid-level bosses, and 30-35 for upper level bosses, and 60 as a bonus for defeating Scarlet’s invasion, if you take down Scarlet.

It is a disappointment to kill a boss and receive 3-4 ore (less than 1% of a weapon) or complete a jumping puzzle and receive 0-2 fragments (less than .5% of a weapon). The rewards could use their scaling tuned.

I would post your server, graphics card type, and video settings, it’d likely be the most helpful information for the bug team.

I’ve never experienced it on Kaineng or Sea of Sorrows, I run a Nvidia GeForce GT 240, and I run magic graphics at a fairly high setting (don’t have the exact settings as I’m at work). If you post a screenshot of your graphics settings, I’ll see if I can recreate it.

In the case it might be on your end, have you updated your graphics card driver recently? If you’re not sure what you’re running, open your start menu and click run or type in the search bar “dxdiag”, in the display tab it will give you the name of your video card, as well as the driver version (you should post the video card type from here if you follow my above suggestion for the bug team) and search for a new driver for your specific card to see if that remedies your problem. If you’re not confident you can find it, I’d be happy to look it up and post a link to a manufacturer page where you can download a new version.

How do you stack runes?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Mistro.3059

Mistro.3059

If you’re using minor or major runes, they only stack to 2/2 and 4/4. If you wanted to stack a specific stat or set of stats you’d have to use different runes.

For instance, if you want to maximize power for a new character, you’d use 6 different power runes, netting 60 power. If you want to maximize power on a lvl 39-59 character, you’d get 3 of one kind of major power runes, and 3 of another kind of major power runes (if you get 6 different kinds, you’ll lose out on 10 power). At 60 you’ll want 6 of the same kind of runes more than likely, to maximize the gains (such as 165 power and other set bonuses using the same 6 runes vs 150 using 6 different runes and not getting the set bonuses).

Most people use 6/6 rune sets at 60+, but it could be beneficial to use 4/6 + 2/6 or 3/6 + 3/6 for specific builds, such as a bleed condition focused character using 3/6 runes of the afflicted and 3/6 runes of the krait for +166 condition damage and 30% bleed duration, however a thief might prefer 4/6 runes of the afflicted for the +poison duration, or a warrior may prefer 4/6 runes of the krait for the bleed on hit chance if they’re a tanky build.

Does anyone actually LIKE their class?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mistro.3059

Mistro.3059

I enjoy pretty much every class, I tend to run builds I find are fun primarily, but also tend to work out to be efficient for my play-style. Guardian was my first class to 80, but I don’t play him as much now, Thief was my second to 80 and is my world explorer character, I enjoy playing him for the quick mow-down abilities, and Warrior is my third to 80, and I enjoy his balance of sturdiness and support capabilities. I have low level Ranger and Necro, I plan to make the Ranger my next 80, but Necro doesn’t really play the way I’d like so it’ll need a bit of tweaking for me to want to play to 80. I also enjoyed Mesmer, but don’t currently have a slot for one, and I attempted Engineer, but it didn’t feel the way I expected, but I plan to re-roll both of those classes later when I come up with a build I think I’ll enjoy.

I find I enjoy my characters when I put a bit of myself into them, and create my own builds vs popular ones (though some turn out to be close to them). I primarily play Dual Pistol Thief (sometimes medic), Tank Warrior (sometimes shout builds), and Support Staff Guardian. I miss old Minion Master Necro, so I’m trying to find a balance from the GW1 builds to GW2 builds I can live with, and I have a “Beast Warrior” type build for my Ranger, as for Mesmer I’ll probably go a defensive route with some Illusions and dual sword/greatsword. On Engineer I’m fairly lost as to what I’d like, but I love engineer tradeskills/classes on other games. I will make one for sure if they add in a mech suit as a general skill vs the Asura racial.

The wings are likely not solid, as for the backpack, due to the nature of backpack useage he likely engineered them to be quite sturdy, but that sort of engineering genius and development spent on non-functional items was likely seen as a waste of time and funds to Moto (Non-lore wise/RP it is probably due to the minis not having a swim animation, maybe in world 3 where it seems to have an underwater component we’ll get some water-stable holos, including underwater weapons by chance).

Mistro.3059

I would say this experience has its pros in addition to its cons. Despite the trolls, there are also some very nice and experienced people in Queensdale who are willing to dole out help and advice to newbies, and it is silly to get angry if you miss one champion in the run, the next one is a few minutes away at most. I also doubt a newbie can solo a champion by themselves unless they’re exceptionally skilled, so the zerg isn’t exactly a bad thing in that respect, it is usually someone intentionally interrupting the rotation to get a reaction/attention or a splinter of the group didn’t know where to go next, so they went after whatever champion they thought was next (your own fault if you don’t call out the rotation or link waypoints).

Wayfarer foothills used to be my go-to place for event chains, before the Maw was nerfed and the chests became once per day. The starting area is still fairly populated at times, with the grawl chain, drake broodmother, stampeding minotaur, and bear shrine events.

The Genie spelling also seems to come from Genius, the Roman version of Jinii, which is technically the same thing as a Djinn.

Essentially they are a creature that is not human, but also neither demon nor angel. They can be any alignment, and are also somewhat like the Shinto idea behind Kami/Yokai, that basically it is a spirit that embodies anything.

I think most people would agree that he is the mystical genie of the toilet, and he is a cruel entity that feasts upon your tears.

Bloodstone: Got enough for a single weapon within a few hours of riding a champ farming train. Over two days of farming I had enough for 4 ascended weapons out of 350 champ bags (white and orange quality). About 20 bags should be enough for one weapon easily.

Dragonite: Got enough for one and a half ingots in a day on one character easily. The Orr Temples reward 30 per, and upper level bosses such as Golem MKII reward about 20. I’d suggest the GW2Stuff overlay, just be aware that it takes time to refresh the status of an event, so its best not to rely on an event to still be up while you are at another.

Empyreal: Got enough for 3 stars over a day by just running the most lucrative Jumping Puzzles + Queensdale chests on three lvl 80 characters, and then running almost every basic chest in the game with one character. (I really wanted to get one weapon out of the way and went solo, but dungeons would be much faster if you have a guild group)

Mistro.3059

Hey there. The big difference here vs WoW is there isn’t really BiS aside from the quality of gear you use. There are specific ins and outs to different builds, but as long as you have general MMO knowledge you should do pretty well on crafting your own. For example, all out DPS users will go for Power and Crit, as well as increased Crit Damage (at 80 this is Berserker’s gear) but have very low health, so some supplement their equipment with Power, Vitality, Crit Damage (at 80 this is Valkryie’s gear). The wiki has a list of the item attributes and names here: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Item_nomenclature .

Since there isn’t really a standard holy trinity in GW2, it plays more like “Support”, “CC”, and “DPS”. Support is tanking, healing, buffing, reviving, etc. CC focuses on conditions not only for damage, but also stuns, cripples, immobilizes, knockback, etc. DPS generally focuses on pure skill damage and evasion due to their low hp. Nearly every class can fill any these roles specifically through builds, but they can provide a little bit of each anyway due to the nature of weapon skills.

I would suggest checking out http://en.gw2skills.net/ , especially the combo and mechanics section. They also have a very nice build editor/calculator. If you take any level character into Heart of the Mists (the PvP vendor/target dummy area, which can be accessed through the PvP tab) you will be boosted to lvl 80 while inside and can test out a build (or a reasonably similar build) while there as you can respec for free and get all sorts of stat equipment for use in PvP (sort of like the arena server on WoW). http://www.gw2db.com/skill-builds/warrior also has lists of builds people have submitted, but it doesn’t get updated much.

Aside from that though, as a general rule you should always run a condition cleansing ability in dungeons and WvW, and also a stun-breaking ability in WvW (basically your equivalent to WoW’s PvP trinkets).

If you have a specific role you want to fill or weapon you want to use, I’d be happy to help you create a build that you can tweak to your liking.

Edit: Almost forgot, Dulfy has a wonderful news and guide site, somewhat like MMO-Champion without the datamining http://dulfy.net/category/gw2/

Crafting ascended armor...theory help.

in Crafting

Posted by: Mistro.3059

Mistro.3059

Jewelry and Armor will likely follow along the lines of lower tier crafting as the Weapons did (aside from the dowel). The main difference with Jewel crafting will likely be transmuting the Crystalline Ingot into a gem that defines the stats of the item (such as lower tier red gems for a Berseker’s/Zojja’s type gem, and possibly the Vision Crystal as well, seeing as how it is technically a gem), the Xunlai Electrum will more than likely be the new precious metal for Jewel crafting the gem settings/hooks/chains, etc. seeing as it is made from lower tier precious metals.

Burst Skills should expend Adrenaline if fail

in Warrior

Posted by: Mistro.3059

Mistro.3059

That would be a very complicated change that would require changing the Warrior class mechanic. There are simpler changes that could be performed to fix the problem you’re having with/as a Warrior (such as condition durations). Removing the cooldown would increase damage/CC vastly for some builds and also require the trait line that reduces burst cooldown have to be redesigned (I understand that is likely a joke comment, just pointing it out for the less informed).

One game design example to back the Dev’s reasoning is the Rogue Combo Point/Energy system and Death Knight Runic Power system in WoW, which can refund (either all or partially) those class mechanic resources in the event that an attack does not connect, it just places that attack on cooldown or activates the global cooldown on that ability.

cleric or soldier gear?

in Warrior

Posted by: Mistro.3059

Mistro.3059

It doesn’t matter much what you run in a random zerg, but if you’re going full support Cleric’s would offer the most healing for shouts. Go Solider’s for more balance and hp.

I’d say go for Soldier’s first from the Orr Karma vendors and throw in some Cleric’s gear to find your preference. In a guild setting it is best to synchronize with your guild group, but you’d probably be more likely to pull off a Cleric’s gear build if they work well together.

As for the healing skill, Healing Surge would probably benefit you in most situations, especially with Cleric’s gear, but Healing Signet would still work well with Soldier’s gear in a small group/less spikey situation.

Edit: With full exotic Cleric’s you’ll heal about 800 hp more than Soldier’s per shout (2.3k vs 1.5k), without the runes and such. Personally I prefered the Cleric’s build even though Soldier’s gave about 6k more hp, so use that data as you will. I used this build to base it upon: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fIEQNBMhJ6kzhkHjCy5BcIDIoHaYVsFqCwR6BZgGpBA-jECB4hERj0fDRjoGMLqIasFhFRjVNjIqWZDz6rIa1SB8tyI-w

Is it time for Dimishing Return to happen?

in Warrior

Posted by: Mistro.3059

Mistro.3059

DR makes sense in WoW, but I don’t think it’d work the way GW2 is designed. There are tons of stun-breaks (such as signets) and condition cleanses that everyone should be running in WvW and even Dungeons (its a big no-no not to). WoW tends to go the route of only having certain classes cleansing certain conditions or having some passive/obscure skill to use when stunned vs breaking the stun.

Not to be mean as it is just the truth, but running glass cannon and/or with no stun-breaks or condition cleanses is basically a free kill in PvP/WvW and drags your party down in PvE, unless you’re really lucky and an expert at dodging and evading (you’d still want to run at least a condition cleanser and probably val gear in addition to zerker). Stun/Confusion could use some serious tuning, don’t get me wrong, but there are ways out of it as well that people may not be using.

Though, Warrior utility skills are also kind of bland as is, maybe we could get some new ones while we’re at it?

Non-repeat events are Flame and Frost, Sky Pirates, and Clockwork Chaos (at least not in their previous forms).

Aside from these though, they mention there will be more meaningful and permanent updates to living story from this point on. Some of the colors are meh, I’m pretty happy that Sentinel is blue and Cleric is white, but I really dislike red for Berserker, so that’ll get a transmute. I’m curious as to what armor will look like, if it is all spiked out and crazy looking I’ll just stick with my heritage skins. I’m also curious if it can be dyed at all, or if it will have to be transmuted to be dyed.
