Hello, Mist Warriors!

Out of rebalancing world populations, eliminating server lag and separating skill balancing from PvE, Gliding was the one you chose to work on?! Seriously?

You still have not met all the goals of the Scoring changes: reduce need for off-hour coverage, reduce number of lopsided matchups, give teams real opportunity for a comeback, and decide matchup winner fairly.

I bet you next work on getting those PoF mounts, and HoT mastery track PvE crap to WvW. Oh, wait! You already added Blazing Speed Muchrooms (Blessing of Elements), Bouncing Mushrooms (jump pads) and Nunoch Wallows (more jump pads). Perhaps a more proper greeting would have been “Hello, PvEers!”.

I will give you some basic information here. The people working on server lag is most likely different from the people that worked on gliding. Server lag is more the domain of the network and infrastructure side of things. Features whether temporary or otherwise are likely done by designers and devs who do scripting, not network code.

It’s like saying “how come your hospital can’t do a brain operation when you have so many heart surgeons just chilling and sitting around” The answer is “because brain surgery is not the same as heart surgery and requires a different set of knowledge and experiences”

While i find this amusing…. with this change 2 things need to be in place.

1. You should not be able to glide while in combat. This is a HUGE no-no. Jumping off a cliff should mean death, not a freeb escape.

2. It should be 5x times harder, near impossible even, to get out of combat in wvw during fights, like while orange swords are in the area near youw. As it is right now, it is wayyyyy too easy to occ.

As long as those 2 things happen I think its ok to have it in for testing.

I think gliding in combat is fine. My view is that I have plenty of knockback and CC, if they want to try and glide away, go ahead, all their skills are disabled while gliding, I will CC them and they will still fall to their deaths.

They are still useful, a while back like 1+ years ago, I remember a commander on my side asked everyone to put on fall damage trait when we were defending hills, then we all jumped on the enemy group that was clumped near their catas at cata wall. Quite a few of them got thrown off the cliff and many of those remaining we’re either low health or downed.

Imbalance in player base is something that players need to fix. Anet shouldn’t be forcibly moving players to different servers. There are things that Anet can fix that they haven’t fixed, but player imbalance all comes down to player mentality.

Population is dying, low chance of revival

Very little balance for small scale action which unfortunately during some time zones or outside tier 1/2, is all there is. People just log off rather than deal with the terrible balance in WvW small scale.

Struggle to kill anything on the power based scrapper. Log on my condi chrono, roll my face across the keyboard whilst watching netflix on my second monitor. Collect bags and not die for over an hr.

Player skill also factors chora. Some players are more suited to certain playstyles than others. Maybe you’re just better at the mesmer playstyle than the engie.

I’ve seen power scrappers rip through 3-4 enemies with ease, I’ve also seen power scrappers die horribly without being able to do much in a 1v1 situation.

For me personally I can be on my alt account on a vanilla necro with Carrion masterwork armor and a random assortment of exotic and masterwork trinkets like knights, cavaliers etc and I can beat people sometimes in 1v2 situations. But put me on an engie with full ascended and I get rolled by bronze rankers or lower.

I think Gliding would be interesting. My main concern with gliding has always been that it makes keep and tower walls obsolete for certain objectives. But if only defenders can glide, then it’s perfectly fine. It will also make people use ballistas more. At the moment, the ballista blueprint is one of the most least used ones.

At the very least it’s an idea worth trying to spice things up a bit. And as they said, if it doesn’t fit, they can remove it. I think people should stop being hypocritical and whining about every single little change while at the same time complaining that there are no changes. Try the change out with the intent to have fun. If it doesn’t work, it can be removed, it’s not like individual matchup results matter that much anyway.

Any chance you guys will double or triple the amount of pips? The gliding sounds cool but tbh getting to t6 in WvW and afking is still worth more time than actually participating due to how slow pips accumulate.

why? if you participate your wvw rank also goes up faster which means you get more pips as you reach higher ranks.

I think a good solution would be to make refreshing siege count towards maintaining participation. Not gaining participation, but simply maintaining it. That way I can scout and not worry about my participation rate hitting rock bottom.

depends on your definition of active. If your definition of active is 40v40v40 on all maps, then yeah you won’t see much action on most servers outside of NA prime time.

I don’t consider it skilled gameplay when you’re fighting 1v3 and you try to stomp the one guy you got downed. There are better ways to achieve victory, such as bursting the people trying to res.

No, it’s a known bug that happens at times for 120 seconds. The only current fix is to change maps.

I use the spawn WPs on a regular basis both with keeps contested and not contested and I honestly have never encountered this ever. The one time I had loading issues in recent memory, every single person in voice comms had got kicked out of WvW at the same time, so we just assume it was some kinda temporary server issue.

No, if the keep is contested you have to use the spawn WP, and you get the loading screen for several minutes, preventing the players to rejoin fights.

Yes it’s probably easy win 1 vs 5 if enemies don’t know how to dodge or remove conditions.

which you cant keep up because the amount of conditions some classes pump up is much higher than the 30 seconds cd cleanse the player has access to.

Things like this make the wvw kitten crap.

Can you detail which classes only have access to cleanses every 30 seconds?

Does it really matter? My tempest cleanse 2 condis every shout (using 5 shouts) plus 1 condi every second and regen like 2000+ hp/s when cycling heals.

I still cannot cleanse all the condis from a single reaper that knows how to push condis..

A good reaper knows how to hide those 15-20+ stacks of bleeding behind half a dozen other condis and there are few that can cleanse that much that fast. Even if you do manage it for the moment… well you’re gonna have about the same stacks on you within 5 seconds again. GG reaper.

If you’re on a healy tempest and you lose to a condi player, then you just simply need to get better. I’m a horrible ele who basically just mashes random buttons and my celestial tempest can outlast the average person I come across in WvW in a 1v1 scenario no matter if they’re condi or power. And if I’m losing I also usually have enough to get away and kitten them off by resetting. I still lose really badly to actual good players no matter what build they’re on or what build/class I’m on, but that’s because they are simply more skilled. I imagine if I get myself some minstrels gear I can probably make even the good players work for their victory.

Current a casual www myself, grinding out multiple gifts of battle atm. Had to transfer to another server so that I could grind www exp. Will probably transfer back down after I get all the gifts of battle I need.

it’s actually a lot easier to get participation and maintain it in the lower tiers. You won’t find zergs running over you while trying to cap a camp.

You don’t need WXP for Gift of Battle, only participation.

Guild Mission Capture and Hold is Annoying

Ah, sounds like you are exploiting some bug with the mission that isn’t well known.

As to why we do it in a single rally, well, that’s what schedules are for; setting expectations for members so they will attend that night for X reason. Why wouldn’t we?

I honestly thought that this was common knowledge. I certainly found out about it within the first week that WvW guild missions were introduced. Also considering the changes they’ve done to PvE guild missions, I’m fairly sure this isn’t really classified as a bug.

I just think it’s pointless to only do a single night of guild missions considering now it costs us nothing to trigger them, compared to the past where you need to build the mission consumables first.

So what if you have to work a little? I did a guild mission like that not long ago. we where only 3 and we had to cap everything. We defended the camps and the tower, even dumped speedy dollies in. Must have killed 20 or so enemies, lost one of the camps once but took it back (luckily that wasnt the speedy camp). Did it take a while? Sure.

Now do cap n hold for camp, tower, and keep in one three-hour rally, one at a time because you can’t run them simultaneously.

why do you need to do it in a single rally? You know as long as you participate in the initial cap of the objective while the mission is active. The mission can actually complete later in the week with completely different members and everyone who took part at any point will get credit. That’s basically what our guild does. We’re not a big guild, so we just pop missions whenever we have more than 3 in WvW at the same time. Then they just kinda get completed at some point during the week.

You can even do tricky stuff like, pop cap and hold keep before you cap the keep, then wait a short while. Fail it. Pop cap and hold tower before you cap a tower, repeat. Then do the same for camp. Then just pop it on again when the tower/keep is like 2 yaks from upgrading or something.

Why do you need impact strike to solo cap a t3 tower? All classses can do it. I can personally do it with only 4 because I’m pretty horrible with the other 5. But I’m sure people who are good with those classes can do it

Condi builds are really not as strong as people make it out to be, it depends a lot on the player behind it as well as the player facing it. I’ve beaten plenty of condi necros, mesmers and thieves on a cavs/knights ranger

Nobody wants to come out and play on it so if you are red it’s going to be a long losing week.

I don’t know who voted for this but it was a really bad idea.

I roam on it nightly. Some of us actually love it, and we often find fights that are interesting due to the land layout.

Please don’t assume everyone thinks like you.

Problem is, it doesn’t appear that many think like you do. I don’t think Anet is in business to appease a minority of people. If these numbers are accurate, they would be well-served, if they even care about WvW, to dump the DBL. People might protest, but you would be in the minority, it seems.

Over the last several months, Anet has made several changes to glicko and to scoring that greatly increases the chances of having more variety in matchups. The downside of this is that it can lead to lopsided matchups with a dominant server rolling a matchup with servers from a lower tier.

The problem with the matchup variety is that the server populations and coverage are terribly imbalanced. The result is half the matches (or more) are complete face stomps.

If there was decent population balance the matchup variety would be a good thing.

Right now it’s just driving people away.

That’s why Anet suggested more, smaller servers. A lot easier to balance population through linking if they have lots of small numbers to work with, as opposed to a tiny sample of larger numbers. But people don’t want that.

Exotics are perfectly fine. Most of my characters use exotic. The only reason some of them use full ascended is because some stats are expensive to make, so I may as well make ascended that way I can transfer it between characters when testing out new builds. Cheaper experimentation.

Could be a difference in latency as well. I play with a min of 250 ping, but more commonly 350. If an experienced thief with 50-100 ping jumps me, then yeah it could look to me as if i just got bursted like crazy in no time at all.

I think it could be based simply on what servers have the greatest need at that time based on population fluctuations. Since we can’t stop people mass-bandwagoning, at least a mercenary server can step in and fill the void when it happens.

that’s a very abstract thought, how exactly will that be accomplished? As I said, at the moment I believe the linkings are done manually by Anet staff after reviewing data every 2 months or so.

I like your idea in theory, but practically speaking it’s like telling doctors “Hey you, can you please invent a cure for such and such disease, thank you” The details are important and current server linking system with manual links is the closest they’ve managed to come, because it’s not an easy thing to do.

I haven’t encountered all the rest, but can confirm this happens and is annoying. Though it doesn’t happen to me all that often. So it’s hard to reproduce.

what exactly would determine which server they go to? If it’s Anet determined it’s no different than what currently happens with link servers. If it’s player determined, then who decides which players get to vote etc.

It means your opponent needs to improve. I’ve won some 1v3 fights, but I’m not very good, it was just that they were bad.

ummm 3-2-1 doesn’t help you catch up. In fact all it would have done is put you guys much further back in third place assuming you’re CD and still 2nd place assuming you’re NSP.

With 3-2-1 the only way for you to catch up is to push HoD linking to third(hasn’t happened so far) whereas with 2-1-1 you can catch up by pushing HoD linking to second or third(has happened a few times)

They need to fix dead pets rezing rangers. I play druid roaming and ya its pretty obnoxious when it does work. Beyond that I think the mode is fine as is. A lot of peoples problems lie in the fact they don’t bother with their underwater gear and don’t know what half their skills do. Many play underwater like its their first day playing gw2 so if I cant kill them on land I try and pull the fight into the water.

the difficulty of obtaining the gift of battle has nothing to do with how badly outnumbered your server may be. Take some camps, take some sentries, keep moving around taking more camps and sentries, all things that are super easy to capture solo, and even easier as a duo. Enemy zergs rarely bother chasing you away from the middle sentries in the BLs. They may swarm you at a camp, but if so, move to another map. That is more than enough to max out your participation, maintain it for around 8.5 hours and you get your gift. The amount of effort required to get it is a tiny blip compared to what you need to do to get the other parts of a legendary.

On the Validity of WvW surveys

These polls, just like the surveys they used to create this game should be done by Invite only . In this case those players who have put in enough time to playing the game mode that they actually understand what it is they are voting on.

The main problem with your argument is that your suggested method of basing it on WvW rank is flawed. Rank is a good reflection of time spent playing the game mode. It is not a good reflection of the level of understanding. And before you try to say that my rank is too low to have an opinion, I’m close to 1800 on this account which is higher than the 500 and 1000 being thrown about, and if I combine all three of my accounts I’m well over 2.5k

I do not believe that my opinion on WvW should be valued more than others purely based on some arbitrary figure. Some people with high rank are intelligent and level headed with good ideas, so are some people with low ranks. Some people with high ranks are selfish idiots with horrible ideas and so are some people with low ranks.

Supply Cap Issue

it’s a bug with Presence of the Keep. Sometimes it just doesn’t do anything, I’m not 100% sure of the exact trigger. As others have said, declaiming, then reclaiming a keep does sometimes fix it, but from personal experience it doesn’t always fix it. In my experience it doesn’t happen that often, but tends to happen to keeps that have been held for a very long time. My personal theory is that the buff duration at some point fails to refresh due to a bug and then it expires.

Balancing via Map Queue

The player base could then transfer to other servers to fill in lacking time slots. This would resolve the overly stacked servers issue and revitalize dead servers. It would also possibly spread players out across maps.

Thoughts?

so… if I want to transfer to an overstacked server to play during their strongest timezone, just transfer during their more quiet periods or ask them to organize a temporary blackout period.

It’s a horrible idea if your aim is to spread people out, but a wonderful idea for people who like overstacking servers.

Hey guys, since I’m seeing this topic pop up a lot, I wanted to step in and clear up some misconceptions.

1. Nearly every player that voted, plays WvW at least somewhat regularly.

2. Whether they play 1 hour a week, or dozens of hours a week, the breakdown between people who voted ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ remains very constant around the 65/35 split.

3. The in-game poll notification mail is only sent to players who are actively playing WvW. They must be at least rank 10, and have ranked up while the poll was running.

The poll is open to all players but is only actively marketed to WvW players because only they receive an ingame mail about it when they rank up in WvW.

The underlying question would be “which player votes would accurately reflect WvW players”. I mean, I’ve gained only a handful of ranks in the past several months. I get a mail saying to vote, but should my vote really count if I’m not a dedicated WvWer?

Yes it should, because the idea is that we want more people to play the game mode. By getting input from different types of players from the hardcore to the casual, you get a much better idea on how to make the game mode more appealing to players in general.

On the flip side to my suggestion (and will probably be highly unpopular) would be to allow the Tier War Councils to coordinate with Anet. They have restricted meetings with the top commanders to work out map politics. These are the people who know what’s best for WvW play, so they could give Anet their feedback. Basically the 1% voting on what the other 99% will get. Not the best idea, but an idea none-the-less.

As a member of a server’s War Council. This is a horrible horrible idea. I have my opinions on WvW and so do most other players, mine shouldn’t be valued more than the majority.

I think that the surveys are imbalanced for a different reason. In regards to the linking you are asking every player to vote as a giant group rather than as a one server. From the giant mass you are basicly handing the votes so that the servers with the most people win. I think every server needs a Seperate vote on this and you base it on how many servers are happy rather than hoe many players. It’s not fair that the smaller servers don’t get a voice because we are smaller

This was already addressed before, they can break it down internally by what server we come from and I think only the population of 1 or 2 servers actually had No outnumber Yes. The rest were overwhelmingly in favour of linking.

I don’t see anything odd tbh, the options are basically 1, 2, 3, 4 or 6 months. Relinking every 5 months is skipped for an obvious reason because you can’t divide 12 by 5. As for permanent linking, that would be equivalent to server merging, and I’m fairly sure the opposition to that would be quite great. Not to mention it won’t actually help solve the problem they are trying to solve.

Why did you put IT in quotation marks? Do you even know what it means? No offense, but your original post makes it sound like re-skinning an entire map is a 5 minute job. It isn’t.

The problem with a lot of people’s ideas is often not the idea itself but the way people always seem to think that their ideas don’t take time to properly scope, plan out and implement. That sometimes implied, sometimes explicitly stated “you can do this in 5 mins”, no you often genuinely can’t.
