You can’t blink to a location unless you can walk there. Even bumps on the ground can make your target an unaccessible location. Perhaps there isn’t just a single choke point and there are other paths?

Server merge

Nate.3927

For me healthy population is when all 3 servers of the match have a good number of players in all maps, I dont care about blobs or zergs, but if you at least have some few small groups and roamers around and it will not take more than 30 minutes for something to happen it is close to good.

And what exactly is your definition of “a good number of players” ?

In T2, OCX and SEA is quite nicely populated at the moment for me. Especially when I take into account people I know who used to WvW 99% of the time, who I now constantly see in PvE farming stuff for masteries, elite specs or their guild hall. I can even look at my own playtime recently and see the same pattern. Since HoT release I’ve spent more time in fractals than I have in WvW whereas previously I may do 1 or 2 fractals a week and spend the rest of it in WvW.

Also since you mentioned being on YB, you do know that YB deliberately tanked for a while to get their server open so they can get transfers in right? If you were playing during that period then yeah it probably did seem empty.

They have mentioned before that each wp is only meant to be open to one server. That is not a bug, it is intentional.

I’m not opposed to having it open to whoever owns the objective. However i disagree that the maps are too big. I have actually timed myself running from citadel to s camp and other locations and it takes roughly the same amount of time. If there is a difference it is within seconds and not minutes

Guild Portal needs improvement !!!

Nate.3927

My guild has been considering getting the Portal but this will surely turn us away.

We have a sizeable amount of new people and being able to directly go to the Guild Mission locations, irrespective of level, would be awesome since it means we don’t need to spend a huge amount of time running new people to the spots every time. Sadly it sounds like it does not do this.

It does in fact do this for things like puzzle and rush and i believe also challenge. However it is reasonable that it doesn’t do it for trek or bounty since those are ones where the journey to find the target is the mission.

That being said i think adding an upgrade for it to allow portal to a single edge wp of each map would be nice and doesn’t sound like it can be abused.

DH is easy. 1 v 1 i can beat it on power based builds on any profession but thief and engie. And that’s mostly because I’m bad with those two professions.

Beating a DH comes down to one very simple thing: avoid their traps.

5 DH in a team is also fine. They are beatable if your team knows their respective professions well. I mean i was in a random team that beat a 5 burn guard premade not too long ago when people were calling burn guards OP. Just depends on your team.

Nate.3927

I’ve had a lot of people tell me “such and such spec is trash” and then other people tell me “such and such spec is op” for all of the elite specs. Based on that and my own personal experience with them, I feel like they’re fine overall, some numbers here and there need to be tweaked but nothing major.

The fact is, some people’s playstyles are better suited for certain specs than others, so they may feel that certain specs are OP while others are trash. I have yet to meet a single elite spec that can consistently beat me 1v1 regardless of the actual player behind the character. Some players beat me purely because they are better than me, others I beat because I am better than them. For example, I’ve wrecked multiple DH in sPvP that were wrecking my teammates and at the same time I’ve been wrecked by multiple DH in sPvP that my teammates had no issues beating.

you’re at mastery level 75, I’m at mastery level… 1 in HoT and I think also 1 in central Tyria.

I don’t really plan on farming them except to unlock a few early levels that I want to explore. The rest I will just unlock with normal gameplay. If you want to unlock them quickly, then you should really expect to have to put in the effort.

I am personally guilty of many many instances of tagging and running, and I actually like the new change. If I stick around I get event rewards(exp, karma, etc), if I don’t then at best I get mob kill rewards(exp, loot drop), which is fair.

How do you feel about the upgrade changes?

in WvW

Posted by: Nate.3927

Nate.3927

the only thing I don’t like about the new upgrades is the fact that rampart gets a WP straight away. As convenient as it is for me to use that WP, it does mean there is less motivation to defend a paper rampart if you know that your server’s coverage will have a gap soon after. My motivation to defend an upgraded objective remains the same.

As far as guild rallies go, my guild rallies quite a lot but most WvW guilds I know including us are still only on guild level 12-18. Do you know when we get to use the +5 buff? Level 37. So yes many of us are still farming PvE to get all the mats we need to get our +5. Not to mention those of us who are altaholics are still farming HP as well to get our elite specs.

Guild Tavern Restoration 2: Small Guilds

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Nate.3927

Why should a ten person guild have to pay so much coin to access a tavern as a place to hang out? The costs weren’t bad in GW1. The costs right now are crazy. I remember getting a guild hall with an old guild I was in in GW1 and Sigils cost like 75k. It was spendy. Especially back in the beginning of that game’s lifespan. This dwarfs that in comparison in terms of cost.

No it actually doesn’t. I remember that time too, Celestial Sigils cost 75 plats when most people didn’t even own 1 plat. It was impossible for my guild at the time (6 people) to get a Guild Hall.

The equivalent to a Celestial Sigil is the expedition cost, which currently costs 100 gold. That gives you your guild hall. The rest are upgrades, which costs even more than the initial Guild Hall purchase/unlock. And before you try to compare the relative cost of the upgrades, you can’t because they functionality they provide are quite different.

Now don’t get me wrong, I agree that things are expensive and seems insurmountable for a small guild right now. But prices will stabilize as time goes on and generally speaking gold is becoming easier and easier to make in this game. I mean if I look at what I currently own in GW1 right now I can buy a fully upgraded guild hall outright on my own with no difficulty whereas in the past the cost of the sigil alone seems insurmountable.

We did, and managed to get a full unlock on our guild eventually. And then it got taken away from us.

That’s the part you seem to be missing. It is a massive grind just to get to the point where our guild was two months ago.

Yes, i think i am entitled to the things i have already worked for.

Now this is something that I actually agree with. I do feel that some of the upgrades should have been grandfathered in similar to how the guild storage upgrades were grandfathered in.

It won’t since it actually costs more than 10k gold for a fully upgraded Guild Hall.

just FYI to the OP, GW 2 said 6month to unlock everything as a 10 player guild not 100s of players

No they actually said 6 month for the average guild. the average guild is probably about 100-150 players. Not 10 players.

The maps are not that big honestly. I just got back from holiday and started commanding on the new BL on my first day back while being sleep deprived. I did get lost multiple times, but not to the level where I absolutely had no idea where I was. I mean the minimap is there for a reason and yes some of the keep entrances are hard to find, but that’s just an experience thing, once people are more familiar with the map those types of things should no longer be an issue.

As far as “too much PvE” goes I actually disagree with that. Other than the dino event in the middle that we did for a Guild Mission, I don’t recall ever running into a random mob all the NPCs we encounter were part of the defensive force of an objective we’re trying to cap.

With complaints about not seeing any other players, my experience is similar to Chaba. My group had around 10 people and we were doing the dino event for guild missions as mentioned. Then we got jumped by around 20+ SoS, had we been organised and in the same area we probably could’ve put up a better fight, but since we were spread out all over the place gathering orbs, their group basically rolled over small groups of 2-3 of us then moved on to the next group of 2-3 until we were all wiped out. At the time we had the outnumbered buff on, so clearly both TC and SoS had sizable numbers on the map. We decided to stay and see if we could ninja some stuff while TC and SoS fights each other and yet we saw none of that. SoS took fire keep then the outnumbered buff disappeared… We proceeded to take the entire map with pretty much no resistance.

And yeah, I wasn’t looking for Edge of the Mists gameplay in borderlands combat. We don’t need all these cliffs and bridges, we need fun sieges and open combat and strategy (like little groups knocking out partially-upgraded towers and camps while big groups distract defenders).

I would argue that fighting near cliffs and bridges are actually quite fun and requires more awareness than fighting on flat open terrain.

New borderlands gotta go before WvW is dead

in WvW

Posted by: Nate.3927

Nate.3927

As a long time WvW player, I can say the new borderlands are frustrative and not condusive to actual combat. They are built large and vertical with very little in the way of mobility. The keep auto upgrade system is absolutely obnoxious and defense sided, in no way should it ever take 12 people a half hour to take a completely unguarded keep… but that is what we face because if you own a keep overnight when the next shift comes in they have to face walls that take guild and superior seige ages to get through. The map is garbage, not only does it have booby traps which aren’t something that a “balanced” map needs, but they have very few entry points forcing players to go into narrow passageways. It takes the strategy out of it. Zerging is literally the only way left to take anything.

If it takes 12 of you half an hour to capture an unguarded(I assume T3) keep then something is wrong with the way you do things. I’ve taken unguarded T3 keeps in less than 15 minutes with at best 10 people.

I might be the only one who thinks it is fitting.

Mordremoth doesn’t care for what you think of him, rather he knows he is all powerful. His form is what he perceives himself as, well-fed on the Ley Line and entirely comfortable with the current status quo of how the war is going up to the point where you killed him.

If he took a more menacing/dangerous looking form, it would indicate that he feels fearful and actually has to take you the Commander of the Pact seriously. Perhaps that same ego is what killed him in the end.

Personally I think:

Mordy = Plant
Plants like having enough sunlight and nutrients to grow as big and as fat as possible
Therefore for Mordy, fat = beautiful, fat = powerful
That’s why the avatar is the way it is

Not sure which globe you’re basing this on, but OCX timezone is ahead of SEA. Sunday evening for SEA is pretty much midnight for OCX or close to it.

As an OCX/SEA player I personally don’t see any issue with this. Reset used to be Saturday morning for me. Now instead Saturday becomes ktrain day so I can just go out and enjoy the real world instead.

Ascended grind required going forward?

Nate.3927

If you don’t have it yourself you are free to run raids in exotics no one is stopping you.

<snip>

But I am inclined to believe that the community will be much less forgiving than the content itself.

This.

People in fractal runs kick (or ditch) quite readily as it is. Any setback could lose people, and lots of groups are not shy about booting anyone who seems to be slowing them down. I invite you to look for a mid-to-high fractal group when it’s not the daily as a ranger or necro. Bring a book. For extra points, and pull out a bear pet once you get in.

Perhaps you will be more open. If so, more power to you. If the devs are saying this is what you SHOULD have though (“what it’s balanced for”), people will take that as the minimum.

—==—

Also, to be clear, I am not saying that I should be allowed in your raid, or complaining about raiding at all really. Raids are for the elitists, that’s straight from the devs. If you want exclusive content, grats, you’ve got your little hill to be the king of. I’ll check it on youtube.

I’m asking if the design intent going forward is for everything PvE that gets ongoing dev time to require some amount of Ascended gear.

What is stopping you from making a group yourself that is more open? Make a listing called “Level 25 frac, all welcome” and you will get people easily.

The problem with all the people complaining about being kicked out of speed run/all zerk/meta groups is that in their ideal world, they want to sponge off 4 other people who are running meta builds. When I join a meta group, I bring a meta build. When I want to play a non-meta build, I either join a more casual lfg group or create one myself.

I have never been kicked from a fractal group running a necro, because I don’t join the meta groups when I want to do a fractal as a necro. I join the ones advertised as open for all.

Solution for Ascended Gear Gate in Raids.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Nate.3927

Nate.3927

Raids are suppose to be the most chllenging content of the game, therefore it isn’t an issue at all that it require Ascend armor.

Also ascend armor aren’t hard to get, just time consuming because you can craft 1 item daily, and even if you play a small amount of time you should have it rdy by now.

Btw “require” isn’t acurate, it will be appreciate but good players will be able to do it in exotic.

It’s only recommended not required.

Doing TT with organized core of players is also only recommended, not required. You can try doing it with pure pug. You will 99.9% fail it, but you can.
Saying something is just recommended doesn’t mean anything. The content is still balanced for ascended, not exotics, and the enrage mechanic exists to punish anyone trying to run it undergeared.

I pug teq all the time, so far the only time it’s failed is when we literally had 5 people on the map, which was obviously not enough.

Guild Mission/Favor problem for 1-2 p guilds

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Nate.3927

Nate.3927

I don’t think they should have to balance around your bank guild. Get outside your comfort zone.

It not a balance issues its a barrier issue and people need to stop generalizing that every 1 or 2 person guilds are just bank guilds. As some posters have stated including myself we drop banners and +5 supply buffs to supply camps along with other things we have access to up to the Merit system comes into play.

A true bank guild wouldn’t do any of that. Anet has always touted “play your way” and " we don’t wan’ to force players to play a way they don’t want to" But yet here we are………………..

My personal bank guild has I believe level 4 or level 5 in the WvW section. I drop +5 and other things on camps all the time using my personal bank guild. It is still a bank guild.

I’m gonna be really blunt here, if you have a guild of 5-10 members, most of which either never rep or has been MIA for a long time, then your guild is a dead guild.

I’ve been in a dead guild before. I went on holiday for a few months, came back to find nobody online and the last login over a month ago. So I stuck around for a few more months hoping to see people log in. When none did, I left the guild. Depending on your position within your dead guild you could also choose to kick everyone out and turn it into your personal bank guild. Or you could even try to recruit new members and revive the guild. But if you’re content with 90% of the members not repping/MIA then even if your guild was a legitimate one originally, it is no longer one now.

As somebody who owns three personal bank guilds I disagree with your notion that everything should be discounted for small guilds. The expectation of having at least 5 people to claim a guild hall and 3 to do guild missions is fair.

A one person guild is not a real guild and a two person guild is basically just a couple, not really a guild either.

  • Do we need to buy HoT to continue doing guild missions, even when a guild does them in an instance?

http://dulfy.net/2015/10/01/gw2-guild-week-day-three-livestream-notes/#more-13087

  • Arenas allow 3 teams right now and a free for all character. There is also an invulnerable team where players on the team can’t die (decorators/referees can join this team)

So my question’s are:
1. Will this be where spectators can go to watch matches?
2. Will they be able to watch a live match or will be it a limited playback one like in GW1 MAT’s?
3. Will there be a ranking system that will also allow guild matches to be played back?
4. Will their be an option to make sure no one “upgrades or decorates” an arena while a match is in progress?

1. You can spectate from outside the actual fighting area so you won’t be disturbing the fight, or if allowed by whichever guild is hosting you can spectate by being in the invuln team

2. Live match. Also I think they said 80 people max on the map instance, so assuming 20 v 20s, then that’s 40 spectators/refs/etc

3. Doubt it

4. That would be up to the guild that’s hosting.

I can’t say I like it much. Granted, its better than the current system, but it does not fix a lot of the issues that small guilds have. For example, I am the only one in my group who enjoys SPvP, and I dislike the notion that me playing SPvP, because I don’t have a group of 2 or 3 guildies, contributes nothing to the guild. Thus, I have a suggestion:

Instead of “Kill 50 players as a group of 3”, for example, make it “As a guild, kill a total of 200 players”. A lot of guilds dont run SPvP teams you know, but they DO have individual players who sometims enjoy playing it. This would allow them to contribute.

well guild missions are meant to be done as a guild. So you solo playing sPvP repping your guild is no different to you solo playing sPvP repping no guild.

Some guilds do function like a company, pretty much the way you described. But there are less of those types of guilds in GW2 than there are in other games. I’ve seen multiple guilds in this game try to go from relaxed and casual to more structured and the end result is that they always lose a lot of members. The main reason is that this game is very casual friendly and so attracts players that play that way.
