“the exploit”

Implying there’s only one exploit…

But yes Nyx it’s not that simple. I made a video showing how to do it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NhNDGqJe6iA

ooh thank you! too bad i suck at mountain goating but i will try this one day!

Today I joined a fotm 50 pug. The group already had 2 wars and 2 ele, being the third ele, I thought “Sure, why not?”. Then one of the warrior started to nag about one of the party member should relog to guard. So I cheekily told him “But ele is OP!”

My friend and I joined a group and instantly an ele started kittening that i was on mesmer and my friend was on ele bc the comp was teef 3 eles and a mesmer….

Get’s kinda annoying how much people stick to ‘meta’ in pugs, even though all they have to do is learn how to put on focus. Idm someone asking for a guard if things go poorly, but it’s annoying to have someone tell you to swap immediately. Since starting mesmer i think i understand a bit how necros and rangers feel _

Or…ahem port half of Arah back to beginning and open LFG stating everyone welcome. I’m sure NOBODY does that, right? Riiiiiiight??

I DOOOO

Didn’t Miku post a picture somewhere where he pathed like 3 arah p4 bosses onto the start WP?

Let me find the picture for you…

Ah, that wasn’t hard to find. Saved it as “ebola waypoint.png”

It was the first boss of p4 and I lured all the p3 mobs at the start, and lured all the elite risen from the left side of p1 on the way to ooze. Fortunately I got lucky this time and one of them was an illusionist, just to spice things up

Was so funny, they all had permanent regen and the illusionist was giving all the mobs retaliation too from its chaos storms.

Hm how exactly do you do this? Just aggro them and WP?

i feel like it cant be that simple

Wow wat an kitten ..

My friends and I sell fractals sometimes, I honestly hate selling it just gets boring having to wait for buyers. The other day we were doing mai while waiting and this guy which PR 7 wanted a reduction in price and after we kicked he joined whining that we should just let him increase his level for free because no one else was buying anyways. Was like a 2 year old kid spamming chat while we were 3 manning mai…so annoying

Selling in gw2 is just kinda risky especially if you don’t have people holding spots and most of all its bothersome. Not all buyers are bad some are really nice….. but others

ofc it should be allowed but i don’t think its really that great anymore. It would be cool if they had ways to actually organize the selling, and some official way to get paid but then more people would enter the market for fractals etc. and it would drive the price lower than it already is.

The new butterfly wings that will be coming out soon are nice and all, but they would be so much better if they could be dyed a different color. I mean imagine Pink/purple wings. They would fit so well with mesmers!

I doubt this will happen because they released both black and white wings, but i think that for a game that relies so much on fashion and looks the ability to dye a backpiece seems common sense.

It was also strongly hinted, that all the specializations were shown in the trailer.

We never saw warriors in the trailer. And to this day we cannot be sure what they getting – seems to be a torch but the desing doesnt fit warrior nor berserk style.

You know people also said the shield would not fit mesmer, and geuss what? ANet made a shield that fits mesmer perfectly. People in this thread really are way too narrowminded, ANet have shown time and again they have lots of creativity, and torch should be a pretty easy one to be creative with even

The difference between designing a weapon for mesmer and for thief/warrior is that mesmer’s have physical and magical attacks. This allows them to make more creative weapon skills, and they can make a weapon like shield or torch fit on mesmer. However, it’s a lot harder to make a rifle or a staff fit on a thief without introducing a ton to the class. I think torch kind of fits on warrior and could be similar to ranger torch, dropping a field etc. but I just can’t see any way that rifle or staff will be on thief without it being pretty useless in pve and pvp.

Otherwise i like stat infusions as long as they don’t cost a ton which they do rn.

Whether it be staff or rifle, thief spec will suck.

Staff will suck less than rifle imo. Why? because nothing will replace shortbow. It’s too good, I can’t see any scenario where i would take a rifle over it, unless they made the rifle really kittening weird and exactly like sb. Staff could be cool Prob will suffer from the same fact that it wont be better than weapons we already have, unless it pulses blinds and does crazy damage.

I mean rifle thief would just be like ranger right now, annoying, except without the ability to provide group stealth, blinds, etc. Unless you go d/p d/d etc and rifle in which case you would not have SB and lose out on great things as well…see how circular this is…

Well, if it’s another Three Headed Wurm, i’ll be happy with it. Best 4 months of co-leading the french community i’ve had, met tons of great people, and getting the firsts kills wasn’t that easy. Nowadays, it’s plain easy, but the content is old, so everyone got used to it.

The problem is that even though these world bosses like teq and such were difficult at first, it’s mainly because they required people to organize a very large amount of people. It had nothing to do with the skill level of players or using difficult strategies, but rather making sure everyone can be where they are supposed to be. Its comparable to pug zergs in wvw. This content will never be a real challenge because it doesn’t push the individual player much. I failed VW a few times the first week it came out yet never died or felt like it was hard.

I guess at the end of the day it depends on what you like. I don’t think it can be said that any open world content is a real challenge, maybe some require more organization than others, but I don’t think Anet can or will ever make open world content that requires as much effort as speedrunning dungeons, or challenging dungeon content from other games. It just wouldn’t work, which is why it’s discouraging that they aren’t pursuing hard instanced content. There is no real end goal when a game has no progression in terms of skill. That’s why in my opinion gw2s longevity rests on the devs to create more challenges for players.

This is an incredibly subjective topic.
I personally really liked the “heavy” armor types in GW2. Particularly those for Norn and Humans.
Here’s an attachment with all my classes. Two of them are “heavy” armor wearers.

U have some nice looking chars, mind if i ask what armor you’re using on your sylvari?

It’s a mix of Inquest gear (Skirt) and the Phoenix set (Gem Store).
The blinders are a rare skin, you can find them on the Trade Post easily.
The shoulder piece is the Shoulder Scarf (Gem Store).

The Dyes are what will kill you (Price wise) funny enough.
I am sure you’ll figure it out from there. Just keep in mind I use Gemfx and my colors may not look the same in your game.

Ah i see no wonder it looked so vibrant! Well thanks its a really nice combination

Hm… I think my warrior has quite sexualized armor right now. Ok, it’s a shop armor-skin, but you don’t need to farm an eternity to get the gems.

That armor is one that drives me so freaking insane.

The male version looks (for the most part), AWESOME. But the female version is so drastically different (the two don’t even look like the same armor set). I won’t buy it (until I get a male heavy armor user perhaps) for that reason.

Now if the female version looked very, very similar to the male (aka full plate, not random bits missing and or sexy parts), I’d buy it in a heartbeat.

But…it looks so good ;_;

Using a ranged weapon on mai trin is a bad idea.

Using a melee weapon and then running in circles at 15% hp for almost the whole fight is worse. Apparently you share the mindset with the guy I described (and had the “pleasure” running this exact fractal with). The Ele we had in the same group was using d/d, with pretty much the same result. Dead people don’t do dps, and people who have to pick up your worthless body from the ground don’t do either.

or you know you can use a melee weapon and just move in and out of max melee and stay at 100% hp, getting rid of her stacks faster and allowing someone else to kite out the shot.

If people want hardcore dungeons, fine, but I assure you that in a week they will have ferreted out tons of exploits and begun farming them. Then the cry of “GW2 caters to casuals” and “Why is there no hard content!!!11” begins all over again and that’s frustrating to everyone else.

I agree with WP on the PS – you get a group together and you slaughter everything in PS. Forcing it to be level locked didn’t help at all but then again, if you are on an alt and all min/maxed out for your level.. yeah, you’re going to kill everything. The first time player isn’t. There should be some happy middle ground there instead of what we have now.

Content that only a minority can complete – Don’t we already have this? I distinctly remember a lot of hardcore content that I can’t do or that require a lot of co-ordination and skill being in game – Queen’s gauntlet, SAB tribulation mode, Not so secret, Aetherblade path, Fractals that involve AR, Most of Arah, Skipping stones, Triple Trouble, Marionette etc etc etc ETC. I’m all for more of it but it needs to be optional and without any story attached because I likely will be locked out. Which is fine but don’t punish me by taking away the story of the game. I’m looking at you, Aether path.

I dont think saying there will be exploits is a good way to say we dont need harder content. Exploits is Anets fault and if they say they are going to make hard content they should be burdened with getting rid of exploits.

Also most of the stuff you said is not that hardcore. Everyone can do all of the content you listed, even in berserker gear. It really doesnt take that much to complete it. Just most people give up after failing once or they don’t want to spend the time to learn the dungeon. But i can guarantee even really bad players have made it through arah and fractals.

8. Content only a minority can complete? This is in different theoretical territory as now we’re talking about resources. Development time and money can only be allocated finitely so my thoughts on this is mixed.

This is the most important point right here. Difficult content would be great for people who like it (I know I would), but not for everyone else, and as much as people think 100 posts in a thread is representative of average players, I doubt thats true, since the people who dont want this kind of content are exactly the people who avoid the forums.

Still, id be disappointed if there isnt “some” hard content in HOT, because its clear there are a decent % of people that want it. Not a hard mode for every part of the game (that would be awesome though) since anet is running a business and has to cater to the majority of their players, but at least something more than another fractal and some new rare drops with a .00001% chance to get them.

What about hard content that most can do, but for a majority of people it takes them a long time, a couple wipes, and requires them to use defensive setups, traits, gear etc. Hard content that only a minority of players can do in zerk gear and quickly. I think that’s the kind of content we want.

In terms of what WP said some of his ideas were bad. The gambits that slowed things down like always in combat, swiftness debuff, and things like less effective blinds or reflects will just make the dungeon unfun. Gambits should increase difficulty in a way that promotes better play, not something that reduces players skill effects or just increases time for no reason.

In general though I’d rather have hard content designed to be so rather than gambits that artificially increase difficulty. A new dungeon with an insanely hard boss that has complex aoes and melee attacks that forces you to consistently dodge and time blocks and invuln to get off channels like ice bow 4 or meteor shower will always be superior to a poorly designed boring boss (most in the game) with a couple of gambits that just ruin mechanics in the game to make it harder for the player.

I actually agree with what you say here. With all of it. I have only one question.

What makes you think the bone Anet throws you is going to be enough to hold your attention for any length of time? How long before you wear out that rug and then start asking for more content again…and again?

I’d say the hardcore group manages to make the most of content and have it last for a long time. They go through content with a competitive spirit trying to find new ways of optimizing. It’s why they continue to play the game without being thrown a bone in so long. I mean according to you and a lot of other people on this thread this game is a majority of casuals and throughout LS people were asking for more and more content. I think if anyone wears out the rug its casuals since they don’t care to get better at content.

Dotn get me wrong but after reading this thread i dont understand what means “more dificult” for players :<

bigger health pool? better AI? mobs doing insta kill to zerkers and non zerker?

(edit: i had awfull experiences wit “meta zerker players”, and i got no grudge against that, dungeons should be played by all equally).

There was a nice thread on the dungeon subforum (rip xD) where they talked about it. It’s hard to explain everything but harder pve content moves away from bigger health pool which a lot of gw2 bosses rely on and instead focuses on better ai. Bosses don’t need to be cheesy but they need to have complex aoes and attack patterns. It should be something you can figure out so you can consistently get better but it should have a fair amount of rng and must require skill. Obv this content is harder to create which is why it isn’t being created rn -_-

The one thing i hate the most in dungeons and fractals is not being able to reflect enough on mesmer. This is partly due to the fact people just do not know how to stand in wardens. Of course not but by optimizing I’m also including step by step tactics as well as gear load out. Following a guide to the letter and succeeding is a hollow victory in my book. You’re just a meat bot following a pre-programmed series of steps to victory. Do it enough times it becomes rout and you don’t need the cheat sheet anymore but if you think following such a guide makes you “smarter” then welcome to the Google generation where you don’t have to learn anything on your own because it’s written up online and as long as you have net access and a smart phone you’re “smart”.

LOL wat….this guy

You must be entirely ignorant of any content besides open world.

Anyways as far as i could tell all notrigger was saying was that the content in this game is easy to complete. That’s not to say you will get a speed record, but any content in this game can be done with a minimal amount of information and understanding of game mechanics. I mean back in the days of 4 wars 1 mez people knew very little about the game there was no might stacking, defiance management, they didn’t even have great portal skips, but they still completed the content.

Ofc to optimize it takes a tremendous amount of skill and group synergy, but there is no special reward for doing well. And there is no content in this game that requires that kind of skill. Fractals kind of do…if you want to run them under 30 min (depending on fractal) but the rewards are kitten and it still can be done with horrible groups (i’ve had my fair share of experiences, eles who dont use blinds/ might stack, guards who don’t know how to pull or use sota, thieves who d/d on trash mobs, engies who camp rifle/ft etc.etc.etc.).

Challenging content should require understanding of game mechanics and your class and maybe sometimes quick reactions. It should be fun and rewarding and push people to play as well as they can. I personally cannot see any reason against this. No one says this content must be mandatory just that it should be in the game. What’s the point of having all these abilities and yet never having to use them. What’s the point of having a great reactive combat system and yet having easy content.

That site is very out of date, and isn’t something that currently is being updated from what I know,

I dont have all the numbers but from what I understand right now it’s

Ele (Gets crazy high with large targets)
Engi (engi and thief being close in single target and Engi pulling ahead in groups)
Thief
Warrior(This and ranger might be flipped)
Ranger
Guard
Mesmer (bare in mind that mesmer has great skills where necro is just damage)
Necro (Close to mesmer dps, trades places with mesmer if the mesmer has to bring lots of support.)

Is Engie still high with the Grenade and Mortar Shot nerf?

I think it’s:

Engie – broken grenade trait otherwise would be below thief and ele
Thief – single target mind you
Ele
Warrior
Guard
Ranger
Mesmer
Necro

If the grenadier trait is fixed engie would be above warrior probably, might be the same sine warrior buffs.

For all those who want higher difficulty and more challenge why don’t you just equip white armor and weapons, leave off trinkets….you’re happy to be challenged, others are happy the way it is…….win win.

YOU HAVE THE OPTION to make the content more challenging………….is it really that you want other people to be challenged more than they are….. or do you want yourself to be challenged?

You can transmute your stuff for the same looks as spendy gear!

do you think people havent done this before? the PvE content in gw2 is a joke and everyone smart enough to google a guide for their class and understand simple logic will be able to breeze through the content or even solo it.

Also something people dont get is that challenging content doesn’t mean it takes forever. Doing a dungeon in all white gear won’t make it that much harder, it’ll just make it take longer, as prooven by all the naked dungeon runs.

Fun challenging content needs to be designed by devs. This game has very little and wearing white gear won’t make content fun or challenging. I mean at this point even soloing things is getting really boring….

True but im not asking the game only offer progression through challenges. Im saying its the thing its lacking the most and even though many people may not like it, many people do. Its all about having that option in there. The problem with this game is not easy vs difficult content, it’s rewards.

And how is trying to force players outside their comfort zone, by ensuring that the only meaningful rewards or progression in the game is gated behind things they hate doing, a positive thing for the game?

if they hate the challenge, they shouldn’t be forced to do it. Trying to get them to do it anyways isn’t going to ‘show them the light(!!)’ and suddenly make them enjoy challenge, it’s going to make them leave the game because you’re removing their ability to play as they like and enjoy the game at their own pace, in their own manner.

By all means, have unique things for your challenging content. Titles, a trophy skin, various “I did it!” bits of fluff – but if a casual player does their piece of content and gets fifty silver for it, then you do your piece of content and get fifty gold for it, that’s in no way acceptable.

Did you even read what i wrote? Or did you just quickly react?

I didn’t say casual content shouldn’t be rewarding. I said it should be rewarded accordingly. I dont mind if SW rewards stay the same, i just think if they do dungeon rewards should be increased since you can’t repeat them ad infinitum and because they take more effort and skill.

Also in what way is it not acceptable? Every game works like this. You do something hard you get more than if you did something easy. It just makes sense and it increases the longevity of the game because there is actually a reason to try and get better.

The problem with this game is not easy vs difficult content, it’s rewards.

I have friends who want to get a legendary. Even though they enjoy dungeons with friends, if they are going for a legendary they prefer to just farm sw over and over and over and over again instead of doing dungeons. The reason ofc is that dungeons cannot be repeated for rewards bc….anet and they require having a 5 man group. The reward to challenge in this game is horrible. SW should not give more gold than dungeons.

Same goes for the difference in dungeons. Most people will stay away from arah even though it isn’t that hard, especially with lupi cheese. In fact its the most profitable dungeon if you have a good group. However, it’s much easier and reliable to make three gold from doing all of AC than from doing one path of arah and since arah weapons and armor are kind of kitten now, no one cares for that reward either.

And ofc the fractal issue that the hardest pve content in this game (which again isn’t that hard) is rewarded so poorly both by rng rewards and gold rewards that no one does it except for people who find it fun or the ones who are new to it and think they will get a nice skin (LOLOLOL).

I understand that there are some people out there who will never do hard content because they like rewards over effort. They find instant satisfaction to the best thing ever. But if anet makes content that is challenging and fun that rewards players more than other content in this game I think even casuals will do it. It’s why i see extreme casuals trying out fractals and dungeons (and ofc giving up quickly) because they want to see what the reward is like. And even though they may hate the challenge, if the reward is good enough they will do it.

You can do a fractal 9 or under if you don’t have ar in case you have been looking specifically for lvl 1 groups. Also most pugs do their dungeons right at reset so it’s the best time to find groups.

Worst Elitist Pug you've met?

worst elitist pug i’ve ever met was a warrior in fotm 49.

I didn’t pay attention to him until we got to molten facility fractal. I started noticing he enjoyed rushing in like an idiot without blinds pulls or reflects, but i was able to make up for it with sandstorm and swirling winds. We get to the end of the tunnel and he pulls all mobs without stacking or anything. After we all wipe, i was on ele there was a mez a thief and another ele so pretty squishy group, he started telling us we lacked skill and that 5 “good” players should be able to take out the group without blinds and without stacks (he did this kind of commentary throughout the rest of the fractal telling us how to play our classes etc…). He continues to pull the mob away from the stack and just whirlwinds through them. It took 3 tries to finish it and later in the dungeon i noticed he was running shoutheal, sword/shield/gs, which was why it took so long for him to die. He really got under my skin until we got to mai trin.

Turns out he didnt have 55 ar and also didn’t know how to dodge any of mai’s attacks (I don’t really pay attention xD which is why i prob didn’t notice this before). He kept complaining in chat about how kittened up it was agony kept hitting him and ofc even with the rez trick if you don’t have enough ar you can’t come back in. So we 4 manned mai without his skillful help. Had me laughing pretty hard at the end of the fractal xD

Going back to Cantha?
Sure, I’d love that.
But so long as some cooperate desk jockey thinks it will offend people, I won’t hold my breath for it.

Was that their reason for not doing cantha again?

smh…..

I really wish they would increase gold reward too….i feel like fractal 40 + should be like 3g at least since all the other rewards including rares and exotics are rng based

Dungeons don’t give you AP. High AP only indicates how much player spent facerolling story.
Time spent is bad indicator top. Simply because there is no punishment for being bad. You can’t learn to be good without game completely wrecking you from time to time. Sadly that’s what devs are trying to avoid.

Agreed – but I’m willing to bet a person that has 3000 hours put into the game can’t be as bad as a person that only has 100-200. Even on their worst day.

how much will you bet?

I’m willing to wager a hundred gold.

…Because I know 6000 hour players with alt accounts. Judge them by their AP do not.

Also, comparing 3000 AP/hours has no basis for comparison between 100 AP/hours. A more appropriate basis for comparison is more like 2000 hours versus 6000 hours. Which, even then, is suspect. AP is bad, mkay?

I understand what you are saying but honestly – AP is the first flag. It’s fast and easy and you don’t have to worry about it much. Some times you can kick really good people based on AP – but it doesn’t really matter since you very rarely get bad players at really high AP ( at least in my opinion) so I am willing to let those really good low-AP players go in order to make sure I rarely get bad players overall.

Nah you get bad players on both ends of the spectrum. In my experience people with 15k + AP are usually worse than those around 5-10k. And by worse i mean much worse, as in shoutheal warriors, people who don’t understand los etc.

I know AP isnt the best thing to create restrictions on but I like to set it at around 3k AP for dungeons like arah or fractals and ask if the person is on an alt or not. Id rather kick someone at the start than wait fora bit until i get annoyed enough to kick them/keep quiet and carry them through grudgingly.

Well atleast the wvw croud is abusing this, too, so maybe we have a chance for this to get fixed soon, because of esports and stuff.

Oh man it is kinda beautiful in wvw, so many stacked symbols…gates crumble down so fast!

I don’t think that would prove anything. Ability to identify a mechanic isn’t the same as listing all mobs that use said mechanic. Apples and oranges.

On the subject of pathing, Is there a way to stop mobs from following me, like that group of risen between room before lupi and shogroth?

Another nice addition for casual runs is distortion sharing (if you’re running inspiration). You can use this to save people dodging Alpha’s AoE, Tazza’s AoE, Malrona’s poison etc. It does things that a Guardian’s Aegis cannot as it will protect nullify multiple hits in the 1s window.

Ive been really loving the distortion sharing and the signet of inspiration on phantasm cast, although it does get annoying chaining wardens cuz of the sig inspiration slowing down other casts

I don’t often see people getting kicked for playing necro unless someone’s asking for a specific class. For example if Im doing a fractal above 29 and we need a thief and i ask for one and a necro joins…immediate kick.

That being said even though you can call people who kick necros elitists, or try hards the fact is that necros are a really bad class in pve. They bring some things to the table ofc, condi clears jesus pull for rez, etc. But in general there is always a better class to bring. It wouldn’t be so bad if they did a lot of damage, and condi does seem to do more nowadays, but if you look at latest dps charts they are a couple thousand dps worse than a lot of classes.

Ask anet to fix the class, dont ask players who are doing stale content to put up with it. :/

This Mobility Nerf...

The opposite is true too. It’s annoying as heck that mobility skills aren’t hurt by things like cripple. That just makes no sense and seems a real dumbing down of this game especially in wvw and pvp. Finally managed to cripple that warrior when he’s running away, too bad he can still move fine.

Mobility nerf was just stupid….I mean was anyone really complaining about super speed rocket boots in dungeons?

we’ve already been over this

catering to the 30 people playing pvp is clearly more important than the thousands upon thousands who play wvw and pve

this is why pvp balance is more important

eh wvw is more with pvp, it would be best if they just balanced those two separately from pve…

Thank you Miku and the rest too, I tried out mesmer again and it was a ton of fun even in fractals. It probably has a fair amount to do with the fact I dont play with pugs anymore so its a little more consistent.

I wouldn’t buy it, but if it makes other people happy, then why not? :P

Exactly…I don’t get the hate against ears and stuff by people who say its “game breaking” or “ruining immersion”. I mean this game is full of silly and fun things. If you’re taking this game seriously just find a group of like minded people and stick with them. No one is forcing you to get these ears or the wings or etc… In fact this game is more tailored towards people who would buy these ears than people who rp seriously :p
