Being a diehard, long time ranger (I hate LB and always have, still dont own one lol) I havent tried the LB at all.
That being said, I was having fun destroying rangers in WvW last night on my mesmer(who I havent touched in months). It became a big joke. Every single one ran full glass and lol. Very few rangers will last in actual solo/team queue spvp and WvW. The ones that do are actually good ones.
When I ate a full, signet buffed barrage with no dodges, I didn’t rage and come complain. I swapped a utility/heal and reflected it back next fight.
It is just a phase that will pass in a bit. I enjoy bunker with my ranger.

W and S say same
A and D are strafe left/right
1,2,3,4,5 stay same,
Q=heal
E= Utility
R= Utility
Mouse4= Utility
T= Elite
F1-F4 = Z,X,C,V (So just Z for thief)
That is how I do it.

Haven’t played P/D thief in ages, but with the introduction of Dire armor and the changes to some of the runes and sigils, I was considering giving it a whirl (if for no other reason than for kicks). I did have a few questions though before I go about making a build and gearing up. Keep in mind I’m only interested in playing P/D for WvW roaming.
- Do the 25%/50%/75%/100% bleed duration cutoffs still apply? From what I remember from before, the aim was to hit one of those exactly (as there was no benefit in between). Also, what bleed duration do you guys normally shoot for?
- What are some of your favorite rune sets? I was looking at Krait personally, but I’ve seen several other favorites on the boards here.
- Do the ricocheted shots from Ricochet apply conditions to the second target hit?
- Also I have noted a lot of people recommending going full Dire. Wouldn’t a mix of Dire/Carrion be more ideal, especially against Diamond Skin elementalists?
1: condi duration caps at 100. There is no cap to 25/50/75. Condi only tic for damage at every full second. If 20% gives you .5 seconds, it is useless to you. If it gives you 1 second, it can be decent.
Personal pref on runes honestly Krait are good, Undead are nice if you go dire. I use centaur in WvW because I am lazy and perma swiftness is nice when 99% of the time is running around, looking for someone to fight.
3: Yes they do, still a bleh trait.
4: DS ele? You might fight one once a week. If that. Clever use of CnD and bursting after water is on CD works, or just walk away and don’t waste your time. Dire is still the best set imo.

Not sure who the target audience is for your post. If people don’t even understand how the basic TP interface works between selling to highest bidder or listing it yourself, what hope do they ever have of making any money flipping?
Education is the cure for ignorance.
This isn’t a post about flipping. This is a post about selling items you get when you quest/dungeon/whatever else. If you had actually read the original post, I state that there.
Apathy is what I can’t cure. Don’t care to learn, or in your case, read. Can’t be fixed by anyone but that individual person.

I prefer lowering the price to the middle of buy orders and sell orders (1.5s if an item has a sell order of 2s and a buy order of 1s)
it amuses me, and I don’t feel dirty for 1c undercutting
Which is fine if you are ok with making less money. Flipper will still buy it and make a profit. Everyone has a spread they will flip. Mine is really low.

Omni, you needed a one sentence TL;DR summary of the above. Some won’t be able to understand otherwise. I’ll help by posting it for you:
Buy low, Sell high.
lol. I love your posts.
The TP gives you all the info you need to “Buy low, Sell high” but people still don’t understand the concept. Baby steps with selling 101. If enough interest is generated, buying next.
Here is the TLDR:
Sell High.
Skritt Happens
This is going to sound crazy to most of the people here.. but hear me out. It seems, that the majority of players don’t understand how to sell items on the TP. This is a very very very basic guide on how to sell an item properly. You can take some of this info, twist it a little, and flip items. This is selling only. Not buying.
First, Every item that is not soul/account bound has a potential cash (Ingame gold) value. Yes, that last statement means I am a TP flipper. I am going to show you how to almost maximize your items value with MINIMAL work. Disclaimer: This does not encompass extremely high value items, very rare, or very volatile markets or speculation. This is for your everyday item drops you get when you dungeon/explore/Whatever else you fancy.
At this time, please view the attached screenshot. This is a screenshot what pulls up when I right click an item in my inventory and select the option “Sell at the Trading Post”. Edit: I have no idea why I put a red circle on it….
We have all seen this, but most people don’t understand it, so lets break it down in a simple way. You have 4 options for your item on this screen(we only care about 1 or 2 though). Lets talk about all of them. Pros and Cons!
Meet highest buyer: Someone is willing to pay 73c for your item right now. You press the button, you get your money, minus 15% TP fee. Very easy to understand.
Pro: You get your money now
Con: You settle for 66c(minus the listing fee of 4c) instead of 2s.
This is the option that makes flipping items on the TP possible. It is bad. You should never use this option unless you need the money right this second. (there is an advanced reason why you might use it. This is Selling 101 though.)
Match lowest seller: Very complicated, but I am going to simplify and link it to the above option. You think 73c is too low for your item, and think that 2s21c is fair. Click this button if you don’t have 3 seconds to spare for option 3.
Pro: You get more money than Option 1.
Con: It isn’t instant. You will have to wait for the 7 already listed to sell before yours will.
Setting your own price: Exactly what the title says. Click match highest seller and lower price 1c below. (tip: if you click the copper field at the top and press down arrow or mouse wheel down, the price will lower by 1c)
Pro: You will sell your item before the 7 already listed and get more money than Option 1.
Con: It takes 3 seconds to change the price.
Last option: Close the TP and don’t sell your item. You would use this when The price of the item to a vendor is more than you would get minus TP fees.
Why would you ever click Meet highest buyer after reading this? I’m serious. Please tell me the reason. I want to know.
To all of you “Master Traders”: I know it can be more intricate than this. I made it as simple as I could.
Another Disclaimer: This is an actual item I flip on the TP. I am a flipper. If everyone did this, it would force the highest buyer and lowest seller prices closer together for lots of items. It would ruin my profits. But, I would guess 99.9% of the population will never see or understand the concepts posted here, so I am not worried at all. You will not become rich overnight. This will increase how much money you make. The little things add up.
Plus, this will be buried by the “Market Rigged” “Market Controlled” “Flipping is bad” “The economy is bad, here is how to fix” threads all over the forum

those figures were cut and paste from wiki… i rarely even see those two classes using these abilities and i rarely see ranger running dagger. i just dont see why there is this kind of skill difference to basically the exact same ability. sure make them different but this is weird…
First, read what I quoted and ask yourself “If I never see it, why am I asking the question?”
Second, they are not the same skill. One is a bleed, one is direct damage. One can be cast over and over, another can’t.
Third, you CAN’T compare an initiative based skill with CD based skill due to the sheer nature of initiative (less you have, more value each point has). It is why thief has been the class with the most… “tweaks” over the life of the game. Trying to balance the actual value of initiative. They still haven’t got it right, but it is closer now.
A proper question would be something like Mesmer blink compared to Ele Lightning Flash (which has been discussed in detail many times).

As a flipper in GW2, I sell my time for your convenience.
People sell/buy to/from me because their time spend waiting to sell/buy an item at a higher price is worth less than the difference in price I am buying it for.
Lets say you have a rare sword. You can sell it to me for 1g now, or sell it to someone else for 2g in a week. I’m not forcing you to do anything. I am offering you a choice. What you pick doesn’t even matter to me as a flipper.
Now, why do people do this? It makes no sense. You can wait a bit and make double the money. Why have you ever pressed the buy instantly button? When was the last time? Last time I did it, I needed food for WvW and didn’t have the time to wait, so I bought it at a higher price. My time wasn’t worth the wait for the order to be filled, so I paid someone else for the ability to have it now. I paid for his time waiting for someone to buy his product.
Why are you still selling to the highest bidder? Or buying from the lowest seller?
There are items on the TP that you can place a buy order for 10c wait 10 mins and sell it for 90c. That % profit is huge. If you are willing to do the volume, you can make good money (pls remove the error when selling too fast, thx).
I just don’t see how selling my time is unfair to anyone.

I have a question about this build. You take 2 in marksman for keen edge at 75% health on a 45sec cd instead of taking EB or Barkskin? I just don’t see that trade off being worthwhile. Imo, you can’t have too much condi clear, but if you do think it is too much, why not grab barkskin for the pesky burst class that shows up on occasion? Am I overlooking something obvious?
A fair question, a bit of a taking something vs give some something up type of scenario
Keep in mined that in this build keen edge clears 2 condis and proc’s fury (more crit chance of bleed proc’s) form SotF as well as bleeds every 36s against foes at 75% health or less.
Your main deference against bursty players are ‘natures protection’, MT and s/d. if you want more condi clears you could drop LR for SoR, swap Sigil of agony for purity and use healing spring.
you kinda got to look at you opponets comp before the game starts to make those sort of decisions, each to there own and no build is final i guess.
Natures Protection is on a 30s CD. A bit too unreliable for a burst protection for my taste, but thanks for the explanation. Always interested in other peoples reasoning when it comes to builds.
Skritt Happens
I will try to take this seriously.
First, lets fix your numbers. Thief, no gear dancing dagger tooltip damage is 163. Lets not count the possible bounce damage. Also, cripple is 3s. (this kinda helps your argument)
Ranger Crippling Talon. Tool tip damage is 242. Bleed is 8s(3 stacks) 1020 damage total. Range is 900. (you have it traited on your ranger)
Lets go over a few (perfect world) NUMBERS ONLY scenarios to help you understand the difference in skills and the reasoning behind them. With a base ini regen of 1/sec, the effective CD of Dancing Dagger is 3 seconds. You can use it 5 times in the 1 time the ranger uses Crippling Talon. 815 damage total.
Now 815 damage is less than the rangers 1322 in a 15 second time frame right? Well, here is where it gets tricky. Lets assume nothing misses/dodged/random flat terrain obstructed/out of range point blank….
The thief can use the skill 5 times in about 4secs (im being generous). That is 204 DPS.
The ranger can use his skill once every 15 seconds. 88 DPS. Quite the difference. Thief doesn’t look too bad now does it?
But you say, a thief would never spam Dancing Dagger 5 times in a row. Remember, numbers is all I am talking. But we can what if all day. You can’t cleanse direct damage like you can condi damage. What if someone cleanses the bleed right after it is applied. What if the first attack by both classes is dodged? Ranger does 0 damage, thief does 652. What if the dagger bounced to 3 targets? What if, what if, what if.
From a pure damage standpoint, which is why you made this thread, Dancing Dagger is better than Crippling Talon.
Now, with all that said, Initiative vs Cooldown skills is a whole different beast we don’t really need to go into. I can’t say “1 point of Ini is equal to 3 seconds of a weapon skill CD on another class”. It is too hard to compare them together to get a real, hard evidence application because as the situation/spec/gear changes, so does the value of Initiative. It is a tricky slope anet created with making thief the way they are.
From,
1000+ hour ranger and thief (each)

Lol at necro shouldn’t be commanding. Why not have 37k health, 30k DS and plague. Running full PVT isn’t needed, but still lol funny. Survive for days. I find it much easier to necro command than guard or warrior.
Much safer considering the commander doesn’t take the brunt of the damage (unless they focus you). The people directly behind him do.
Also, if you are dying to condi in a zerg as any class, you seriously need to get your shout guards/warriors on the same page. There is literally no reason for a zerg guild to be running melandru runes…

70% Movement speed for Pet with Sic’em and trait.near 13k crits with Rapid Fire, 2-3k ish Auto attacks.
Barrage mobs (3 seconds), only the one that knocks you down is left kite / auto kill him (4-6 seconds), Necro is left to die now. (5-10 seconds) Average kill time no more than 20 seconds.
Not to mention Jaguar and Bird DPS Pets, but those are just added bonus.
But this is if you kite right and play your cards right, as zerker I dip out with GS (Chill/Endurance/4 Sec block/Leap)once I see some one else coming, but 1v1 just about most will go down.

Necros trying to get a ele GM trait reworked because it is terrible or because it counters your build? I still don’t have a problem on my necro with it. I adapt and use lich or more DS.

We could also start talking about Lich form… I betcha that even with a condi spec you can still get the eles health down enough to begin apply conditions on them.
May I also note that the ele has light armor and the lowest base hp in the game. Without our sustained healing and gimmick traits we’re wet noodles.Sooo, why were eles pretty successful before Diamond Skin got introduced? Oh wait, because the gimmick traits aren’t necessary!
I don’t see why eles are so against Diamond Skin becoming something that’s not a gimmick and actually useable. Yet every complaint thread about it being badly designed has them rushing to defend it, saying “it’s terrible.” If it’s so terrible, why are you against a redesign?
What game type are you referring to that eles are great(lol been over a year since that was true. Rune change helped a bit though.) and you always fight DS eles? There seems to be a few ppl talking spvp and a few talking wvw. They are a different beast, but still there are almost no eles that run DS in either. I don’t think it is an issue.

has no place on a condi skillbar.
1 trait to counter a condi bunker. 1 elite to counter the trait. Sounds fair actually. Swap it before you engage the DS ele if you are in WvW. Hell, golem will take care of it along with life blast…
This thread is full of “I wanna auto attack with scepter and win! Instead of having to deal with a DS ele that I see once every 10 games or once a week in WvW!” (Since 1/2 people are taking spvp and other is WvW roaming)
I don’t think the trait is too strong, I think the trait is too binary. It either stops your opponent cold or it does jack squat. They need to greatly extend the health threshold while adding opportunities for condition builds to bypass it. Or something similar. Right now the trait either guarantees you a win or it’s a wasted grandmaster. Pretty bad design in my book.
That is what a counter is and how it works. It is a wasted, gimmick grandmaster. That is why no one uses it outside of a duel.

That not so true… The fact is, ranger is one of the hardest class (if not THE hardest) explain why “most ranger are terrible”.
But once you became good with ranger all class are just a matter of 1-2 days to take in hand (in case of the warrior 0.5 sec). None of those class have unreliable factor like pet which helps.
That being said i would never trade my pet <3.
The general skill level of the player base in GW2 is low. That is why most rangers are terrible. It holds more true for thief tbh.
Also, ranger is not the hardest class to play. Far from it. Work the hardest to achieve what other classes can, I will agree with that.

A counter to the condi bunker meta. It is perfectly fine the way it is.
Never go full condi.
Never.DS doesn’t need to be changed, your build does.
This isn’t a legitimate argument. When Necromancers were stacking 15 bleeds on people while under a fear chain and stacked under piles of conditions, people weren’t forced to change their build (for good reason), it was nerfed because it was too strong.
If there was something that invalidated direct damage while above 90% HP people would be up in arms and no amounts of “just change your build” would stop that.
When someone can cleanse at 1/2 the rate you can apply, your argument would be valid. But they can’t, so it isn’t. 1 class can hard counter what 5 classes can do. 1 spec of 1 class.
Avoid them if they are a huge problem. Just like I avoid HamBow warriors and Condi Engi instead of being up in arms for a nerf.
