I don’t like tara strong that much. Truth be told she’s become too well known that it hurts the possibility of alot of other female voice actors from being able to spread their wings. You could try to argue otherwise but tara strong is being cast too much and she seldomly does voices i can’t immediatly pick out it’s her because she only has like 3-4 voices she repeats with minor poor accents.
Scarlet as a character was joker/harley hybrid and it was obvious why they rolled with tara strong for it(she’s now the voice for harley so they thought it’d be easy for her to roll with the “crazy”).
I wish for more strong female voices or crazy voices that aren’t just repeats from other stuff. the other female voices i liked alot actually but scarlet with that ridiculous accent(seriously? why was it needed?).
I like gw2 but scarlet alone made me stop playing for the last 6 months and now she’s gone i can play again without having to worry bout hearing a voice i personally dislike(don’t bother trying to tell me she’s good or what because her talent as a voice actor is subjective and heavily opinionated so there’d be no point in it.)
Two handed weapons already have higher stats than two one handed weapons combined. It seems Anet is satisfied with this as compensation for the sigil issue as they’ve never done anything about it.

Seriously read or watch a few animes hopefully ones that are decently known for their story telling and get an idea bout character depth. Animes can get away with that because of their usual length and lack of censorship on whole. One of my favorite examples is “Fullmetal alchemist Brotherhood” or “Ghost in the shell anime series” both actually show good backstory or give enough crumb trails to keep you interested.
GitS:SAC is not really . . . good . . . at “show don’t tell” as there is an awful lot of having things explained and infodumps going on, from what I remember when I watched it. (And I loved it, watched it and the second season but it was worse in the second season with the infodump and dialogue creep).
It is still a superb choice for viewing, just . . . take notes, because it is complicated. And the show does not help you.
Another good one might be “Cowboy Bebop”, though it’s overhyped these days. not because it’s not good, but because everyone and their second cousin tells people “you have to watch this”. Also, Steve Blum.
Recently I was reminded about “Macross Plus” and halfway through rewatching it I do have to advise to watch it as well.
Also, and this is one I have not seen but enough people I respect speak highly of it, “Avatar: The Last Airbender”. Not technically anime. Still worth it from what little I know of it.
But at the same time, please please please pleasePLEASE remember there is a world of difference between written works and viewed works. For writers it can be much more difficult to get to a point in the page where it magically just WORKS. If we’re going to try to bring up better works, it would be best to stick to writers rather than animation or film.
I’ll even start: Lois McMasters Bujold’s “The Vorkosigan Saga”, anything by Timothy Zahn (conservation of detail very much so), and Tad Williams’ “Tailchaser’s Song” or even “Caliban’s Hour”.

The advertising team has a bad habit of stretching the truth to rile up our expectations, almost to the point of them becoming downright lies; such as the Southsun instance being a “dungeon”. Its more likely that Queen Jenna never had anything special to announce to begin with, and as such, the plot is littered with holes once again.

And seeing this makes her go insane – a warning was given to her but her lust of knowledge makes her avoid it. That works great, even. And now she wants to change the fate of sylvari, to let them chose their own destinies rather than live out pre-determined lives. I can relate to that. But… how the hell does assaulting Hoelbrak, Black Citadel, Lion’s Arch, and Divinity’s Reach fit into all this exactly? Why must continents burn and nations fall, exactly?
Her goal and her actions have no relation.
And this stuff should be shone in the game. I enjoy these short stories a bit, but come on now. This stuff should be shown to us in the freakin’ game. And it wouldn’t be all too hard either.
But I guess her being able to do everything and anything is little different from the PCs (which isn’t exactly a good thing either).
I had my wife actually look at the story and she asked me what it was bout and i said a “main villain who appeared in the new story ingame who acts all crazy” and the very first thing she said literally as i finished saying it was"she looks at something goes insane wants to burn everything right?".
She then read the story and said “what the hell is this? this is more of a crappy romance then anything. Yes the writer does a decent job of writing bout emotions and surroundings but alot of the details they use are borderline erotic in their use. The worse part is the dialogue that is said outside of her talking to the guy who is there when she awakens is so basic and cliche that it’s easy to see where anything is going since the writer is more worried bout writing borderline smut with the words and wording of what they are writing then actual engaging dialogue”
I also agreed with her and i even said that this type of storytelling needs to end pronto. if not the cliche dialogue and characters then the way they don’t know the basic saying that is pretty much one of the 3 rules of story telling “SHOW DON’T TELL”.

Well, by most Tyrian standards they are a ‘Great Evil’, even if they are simply going by instinctual. I just remember that there was a few I recall that weren’t bent on consuming the world like a natural disaster.
The only thing they’ve been consuming as far as we know yet is just purely magical artifacts and magic in general and they just happen to destroy whatever is in their perceived way to their next meal.

The thing about the tablet and the dragon issue is… Even though our known sylvari are spawned form the Pale Tree as we know it, whos to say this dormant Dragon is even evil to begin with? Hence why even Sylvari from other trees might be good natured if there wasn’t any ‘corruption’ to begin with.

as far as the seed from where the pale tree came from shows. they’ve been around in seed form at least for 250 years easily more. I wouldn’t doubt if somehow the sylvari were an actual race back during the last dragons that had their trees lay seeds and they hid them away hoping one day their race could survive. doubtful surely but it’s better then “everything is a dragon minion just because”

I think its pretty much set that in Tyria, Sylvari are indeed the master race.
The Pale Tree was suppose to become the elder Jungle Dragon’s champion but rebelled… like Glint. Ventari’s Tablet changed everything. Your entire race was actually suppose to be the unwitting minions of the elder Jungle Dragon. The Nightmare Court is what the Sylvari true form is.
It’s not that Sylvari are immune to Dragon Corruption it’s that the Sylvari are already “owned” by an elder dragon; just not officially claimed thanks to the Pale Tree’s actions. Evidence? Risen cannot be Branded. Branded cannot be Icebrooded. If you look closely you will not see a Branded Sylvari or an Icebrood Sylvari. The law of ownership states that which is owned by one force cannot by nature become the property of another force.
More Evidence? Minions of elder dragons will fight minions of other elder dragons. That the Sylvari fought Zhaitan and his Risen means nothing heroic. It is their “nature” to attack their enemies.

Don’t worry people always defend lazy and cliche writing only because they like it and won’t bother defending why they like it that’d make any logical sense other than “just because”.
You know most people will usually like the first thing they meet when it comes to characters because they haven’t seen that the ones that’s the easiest to write most writers will go for opting their own tastes without scope of what that entails in actual story.

So far, the Living Story villains as a whole—from the Flame & Frost bosses, to the Aetherblades, and so-on, have been great fun.

You realize of course everything has a trope at this point yes? NOTHING is 100% original anymore simply because it’s no longer realistically possible. That does not instantly make something bad however.

I completely disagree. Scarlet was a lot of fun, and I really enjoy her character. You guys are being way too critical—I think Anet did a great job of mixing cartoon-villain humor with serious situations.
As for her education, it was hinted at that there was some sort of deception involved there—so we don’t know for sure. And anyway, if the Asura can play the “I’m super educated” card, why can’t a Sylvari? I find it intriguing that she was permitted to attend Asuran college at all… this opens up potential for a whole cultural exploration of the Asuran colleges and outside races.
Where do you get off telling people how to feel or when they have the ability to voice their opinions? The overall feel of the character is borderline check list for lazy villain making. You’re welcome to your opinion but let people have theirs.
When i first got to my character screen the game said i hadn’t done any of the queen’s jubilee. I then log onto my mesmer and check my bank to look at the new mini’s added to the game and i noticed my watchknight was suddenly NOT in my bank and i checked my achievements and i had done everything despite the game not noticing.

Also the mechanics of the final fight against Zhaitan have nothing to do with the writing.
Plot is separate from gameplay.
Actually the plot had a giant laser shoot a previously established powerful dragon down and don’t forget zhaitan had little intelligence to slam into the ship he was bigger then and attempt to rip it out of the sky. No he just spat undead which have been repeatedly shown to not work against the pact in a pants on head moment.
Basic animals ram into objects if it causes them pain and zhaitan ripped apart the ship when he flew by it once. It also made little sense for him to fly in front of the ship when he could of easily came from below and ripped it apart.
Again animals are smart and the dragons are smarter then animals soooooooooooooooooooooooo poor story telling to the point where you have to be blind and dumb to not wonder how this boss couldn’t do what even things like bulls could do. the actual fight was bad but a starving animal doesn’t make it where it has absolutely no intelligence and does little circles.
People here at the studio where as passionate about this as you folks, so we had both Kiel and Gnashblade supporters. I for example play a charr, so I was obviously on #TeamGnashblade.
If you guys were so passionate you would of had more then just 2 cutscenes to build evon up as a character. you took a character who had months of screen time and interaction with the players and had her clash with a character you pretty much twirly mustached as evil.
So if you guys were really wanting evon to be a contender your writing would of built him up and not have him be a minor npc 1 second and then be all center stage for 2 cutscenes and then have him compete a more well known character.
hell you could of have evon be involved during south sun and f&f as the one inviting refugees to LA and it would of been ALOT better then what you did.
Of course Anet usually only kills characters immediately after we meet them (former ships council guy for example) so this is unlikely to happen.

It had a story with ingame npcs verifying it’s existence as the canthan district. 1 npc even calling it the canthan district(there’s a topic with exact details somewhere in the forums i believe somewhere in the living story forum parts). Anet mods put their fingers in their ears and blantantly lied when ingame dialogue said otherwise.
don’t get me wrong i love playing gw2 but it’s sad i have to tolerate bad story decisions when their company has shown the ability to do more then just blog and retcon and make parties and minigames cough war in kryta cough,
If they make a wvw balloon it’d be nice to put it somewhere in eb that’s somewhat out in the open as opposed to a jump puzzle. At least then you could just blitz it at any time with a low lvl stealth character as opposed to a god awful jump puzzle(done it more then i’d like within the last few months).
Just reskin the sylvari male pony tail for humans by trading the leaf texture for hair and i’d be fine and an actual kitten beard that isn’t a choice between will turner and a hobo commando.
The only things i’m really interested in is regarding the mursaat lost city and if the titans found it or How did the charr first learn or make contact with the titans originally. I’m also deeply interested in what the searing ritual actually is and where those crystals actually come from and what they are made of.
I vote for evon because truth be told what would a lionguard officer know bout actual politics or even maintaining trade agreements with foreign individuals.
To be practical how is kiel going to return any of this treasure to anyone since there isn’t any viable way to actually show any of that treasure is anyone’s unless it’s marked and even then i doubt the vast majority is like that.
Evon may seem evil or whatever but we’re voting for the purposes of maintaining trade and defending lion’s arch and evon has not only the funds but combat and commanding experience from his days from the black citadel.
Kiel might have some experience but some of the cutscenes show her easy to catch off guard and that is actually bad for establishing trade with new people because if the person they are dealing with can’t answer simple questions then how can they trust these people to actually be worth their resources and time.

Actually, most Charr hate the Flame Legion because of how they led the worship of their fake gods, the Titans, (and this worship brought them wealth) and because of one female who refused to accept the Titans as gods, all females were oppressed. But some Charr females trained underground, got the support of some of the other legions (primarily Iron, because their Imperator lost against the resistance’s leader, Kalla Scorchrazor) and the Flame Legion surrendered when they saw how much they were outnumbered on the battlefield. Just a bit history for ya.
It’s kind of hard to say they only were hated because they led during the Searing and whatnot when we have this kind of history. And btw the Flame Legion Imperator and many, many of his soldiers died when they tried to take Ascalon City and Adelburn used Magdaer to create the Foefire.
The hate for the flame legion and the titans in particular only really started to crop up when the titans who were fighting alongside the charr were shown to be able to be defeated by the humans which lead to some charr seeing the titans as weak and blame the flame legion for misguiding them in general.
What i was stating was that they don’t really talk bout the flame legion tactics during the war with any real sort of disgust only really getting annoyed over the fake gods over the actual brutal actions that were happening.

i 2 manned t4 earlier with 1 thief and 1 mesmer. it was very rough but if you can sync with your partner or communicate well you should be able to do it.

I don’t think that getting to the top can be even considered as jumping puzzle. You have only 3 jumps (which are painfuly easy) to do, the rest is just automatic transporation with lightning element.
I do not jump. I have hands that are deformed and crippled, and have yet to find a way to make my hands work with any jumps even with assists with any predictablity. I have not managed to even make the first jump in the Zephyr Sanctum, despite trying and dying and losing lots and lots of cash waypointing to get up.
I was kind of hoping there was something for open world people this time around.
So the short answer is yes, you must be able to jump.

If you have even one finger availble, which you clearly have at least one then: Hit R for autorun, press 1 (jump skill), press R for autorun (to deactivate). Repeat 2 more times. You don’t even need to be that quick at it.
If you are able to kill things in PvE, then you can accomplish this.
A large part (pretty much all) of me believes you making stuff up to make a point that OMG you have to jump at least 3 times so that means jumping is a requirement and that is bad because that excludes people who don’t like to jump out of principle so anet sucks etc etc etc.
Since I have no proof I will unfortunately have to assume you are telling the truth so as not to seem insensitive. But think we all know what’s going on here…
I do not use numbers to attack. I use the mouse to attack. I use my thumb (and palm) on the mouse in my left hand to click on each of the attacks that I wish to use on the screen.
I have auto run key bound to the pg dn key which is just above the end and slightly up from the up arrow which I use to move. I rarely use auto run, however since I cannot stop easily. Comical? yes. Useful? not so very much.

I do not use numbers to attack. I use the mouse to attack. I use my thumb (and palm) on the mouse in my left hand to click on each of the attacks that I wish to use on the screen.
I have auto run key bound to the pg dn key which is just above the end and slightly up from the up arrow which I use to move. I rarely use auto run, however since I cannot stop easily. Comical? yes. Useful? not so very much.

I’m so sorry you had to deal with these people. Some people just have no ability to think beyond their comfortable lives and empathize what it must be like for others.
I can only imagine what it must be like for you to play this game, and I tell ya, thinking back to how badly I raged when I couldn’t do some of the harder puzzles in this game, I have to give you some major kudos for trying.

I think you deserve to have access to as much of this game as possible. I am personally going to send ANet a support ticket and point them to this thread. I think they need to be aware of what it is like for some players, and keep it in mind whenever they design something.

If you are having trouble with the 3 jumps required then try using the lightning move instead of jumping.

You came to the forums talking bout your disability and asked if it was impossible due to 3 jumps i said to you TWICE NOW JEEZ i’d port you or you could find a mesmer FOR 1 JUMP
its not a jumping puzzle and there is no complex maneuvers you have to do to get to the top, there’s only 3 jumps and its the air training ones.
in fact there’s a lightning crystal right before them under a ramp and all you have to do is press 3 then move your mouse cursor over to the platform and the lightning leap will jump up there.
and if you want to do it the regular way then all that is required is 2 buttons, 1 then W a man with 1 arm and his mouth can do them.
hell a guy with no arms can use the lightning leap and get past those jumps.
not trying to be rude to you but stop making excuses when a-net gives you the option to not even have to use the air jump and then W.
if you want to i will personally show you the path that requires only those 3 jumps and even then if you can’t make it then how hard is it to ask someone in your guild that has a mesmer for a portal past those 3 simple jumps?
First, I use the arrow keys and the mouse to play. I have one finger on the left hand that I use to move using the up and down keys to move forward and back. My right hand only has a thumb and palm that work, so I use my palm and my thumb in kind of a wonky twisting motion to press the mouse to turn and move. I have tried binding the jump to the end key which is next to the up arrow, but this only works for pretty simple jumps, and as I said, not reliably.
I realize that it is very easy for you (and most other people, apparently) to do, but I have tried and cannot do it. I merely asked if I was correct that the new content was —--again—— jump dependent.
I have managed to do a couple jumping puzzles, some of the more simple ones, but ones that take most people maybe 5 minutes can take me several hours to master. I do not have that much gaming time to spend 3 or 4 hours in frustration and pain, just not why I play so I do other things. Problem is, all the new content is tied to JP. The last event/update that I was able to participate in was Halloween. (because the JP did not count towards an achievement, and the scavenger hunt was open world.)
I also do not join guilds because well…see your post and the one below. “Its easy, you suck, you should quit” Every single post I have made in the forums ends up with someone telling me I should quit. It is the main reason I solo. I just like to play, I played Guild Wars 1 for years and have a fondness for the world. Unfortunately, the dependence on Jumping puzzles has left me with little left to do after a year.
I play alone because no one wants a slow plodding player who has to do things in a different way than most, and to be honest, I do not like to have to explain how my hands are crippled, etc. to everyone and I feel I am spoiling their fun by being so slow. This does not bother me, I merely asked if the voting was jump dependent. It is. So I am out.
I again say to you why not ask a mesmer to port you through that 1 part and i even offered it to you to port you but you don’t need to get mad at people over a situation you can’t seem to figure out the solution to.
There is 1 i count it 1 spot where it requires any jumping and if you are telling people to have compassion while you’re being rude to people(i don’t kitten care if they are doing it as well). 2 wrongs doesnt make a right.
Why don’t you have a mesmer help port you past the 1 part where you need to jump at all. Heck i’ll port you past it(though i may mess up once or twice but free port for ya)
Not much really. If the spot was open to a krytan human or hell even tengu(i think tengu would of been a more interesting pick since if the tengu won could of had more lore revolve around them instead of an explosion).
Humans should vote for Kiel not because she’s human, but because she’s not a greedy, self-serving charr. Everyone else should vote for Kiel because she’s demonstrated she cares for members of other races. That’s something Evon’s never done. Plus, Evon’s research into the Fall of Abaddon is pretty much the forcing of religion on the other, non-human races who don’t even worship the human gods. Talk about red flags! Think about that before you cast your vote.
You do realize every player cares bout money and most npcs care bout money so evon being open and honest bout what he likes is a bit more honest and in no way can be used as a legit way to bash him when everyone cares bout money in mmo’s to some degree.
Also the reactor only really involved 1 race MAYBE 2(stretching this since sylvari lands are a bit away from the incident). so honestly failed at that as well. Worth mentioning the human gods do have other races that worship them so really it’s up to the player if they care bout powerful beings who helped shaped the world literally.
I genuinely doubt this would happen but it’d be interesting to see the fractal version of abaddon escape the fractals and run rampant amongst the mists but i for one was disappointed with how abby got scooted out of god position by kormir.
i may hate charr for being essentially evil incarnate retooled into a playable race but that wouldn’t affect my choice for the abby fractal because the reactor is kind of stupid from my perspective since asuran bore me horribly.
The main thing that catches my eye and only because of my imagination being a buggy little thing is the possibility of players having a visable influence within the world.
The smartest idea in my opinion is to HAVE EACH SERVER HAVE IT’S OWN WINNER OF THE ELECTION if only to reinforce that the mists connect to alternate worlds and that each server is it’s own reality.
I know it’d take alot of resources to work for both possible outcomes but it’d be the truest sense of a living story.
Maybe they were not completed because they are all connected. We still don’t know who the silver-tonged person from the city and Mr. E are, but it doesn’t mean that we will never know. I bet the person behind the Molten Alliance is the same one that is behind the Aetherblades.
I am having a blast since Flame & Frost and I look forward to every new chapter.
There’s a dev post somewhere around here that stated that every update we got was being worked on by different teams or they had a time limit for their specific update and there were teams for those updates but given how they do infact have different teams working on 1 story the story itself really comes off as disjointed BECAUSE too many people have their hands in the cookie jar for there to be a balanced story.
