Venom Rework

in Thief

Posted by: Polaritie.4851

Polaritie.4851

I realized something else this would fix; right now Venoms are weak because, with the proper Grandmaster trait, they can be shared with your group.
With this change though, only the Active effect would be shared, and the Active effect would need to be toned down to fewer hits to compensate for the passive.
This means that much less of the skill’s effect would be focused on the shareable portion, and so there would be far less need to limit its power.
Since Venomous Aura would then become a weaker trait, it could also be moved down to the Master tier and become far more accessible.

Venom Support is a thing. Because multiplying each venom’s power by 5 actually makes them matter. (Spider Venom is still only good for triggering venom traits now, sadly – nerfing Lotus Poison hurt it a lot)

I can press one button to apply 20 stacks of vulnerability and torment to a boss. Every 36 seconds. Kind of strong?

I could, in theory, lock a boss down for 10 seconds… every 36 seconds (More than that really, since it interrupts and such, but this would require godly coordination).

Also, I apply a decent amount of might to the party on a regular basis, and heal them a bunch too.

I like it, myself. But yes, venoms practically require you to use the aura trait to be worthwhile (barring Basilisk, which is nice on its own, having far less competition). I would LOVE to see the auras trait removed and made to do something else, and then buff all venoms a ton.

We need less sci-fi/steampunk and more wizards/magic.

Perhaps if you peaked out from under the brim of your wizards hat once in a while you would of noticed that Thaumanova is about chaos magic and dragons.

No, it’s sci-fi. They can say that ‘magic’ works the waypoints and portals and all that other Asuran technology but the fact is, it’s nothing more than sci-fi garbage. If the Asura used magic, they wouldn’t need laboratories, technological devices, portals and waypoints. Instead, they would wave a wand or utter an incantation and whisk themselves away to their Wizard Tower.

Any sufficiently advanced magic is indistinguishable from technology.

Eight. Of which four are 80, and another is mid-70s. (Ele, Thief, Ranger, Mesmer 80s, a 7x Guardian, and the rest of the classes <30)

My elementalist and thief get the most playtime though – Ranger is too hard to get results on par with anyone else, and Mesmer is just god-awful at getting around unless you equip a focus. (While Elementalist has perma-swiftness and a movement signet, and Thief has movement signet and tons of dashing… plus Shadow Refuge, for every fight you don’t want to do).

Strongest Autoattack: Sword or Dagger?

in Thief

Posted by: Polaritie.4851

Polaritie.4851

dagger has higher single target dps even if you aren’t cnd backstabbing or heartseekering. Problem with sword is that they have nothing else beside the auto attack for damage buff (pistol whip doesn’t do higher dps). Since most threats that actually matter are single targets, dagger wins.

Oh and poison on dagger also causes weakness if traited.

With the nerf to the trait, you get more weakness uptime from sword.

Actually, if you finish having used Light Speed, you don’t get the achievement. I had this happen – used two of em, took first, it said I had second, presumably due to having lost 10 points (two checkpoints)

That wasn’t due to having used Light Speed. That was due to someone else still beating you. Some win then immediately leave so it can be hard to tell, but using Light Speed does not invalidate wins.

Someone was waiting and watching – I only had 165 points.

It’s not exactly easy to test this

Exactly. I played three games and figured out the game and now place anywhere from first to third in 7+ player races. The mini game isn’t hard at all sadly no reason people can’t earn it. This isn’t World of Warcraft. Earn your stuff by trying instead of having it given.

It’s not easy for everyone. In some cases, not easy purely due to factors outside of their control like latency.

I don’t think it was meant to be easy for everyone, that’s why it’s not required for the meta event. That being said, I can certainly understand the frustration of not being able to get an achievement point. I personally am having trouble with some of the kite ones. But I will continue to try and work at it, and everyone should try and work at the things they struggle with so they can get better at it. What’s the point of playing the game if you just get everything handed to you?

Coming 2nd is just as much work as coming 1st.

Nah who am I kidding. Getting 1st is easy if you get lucky with teleport power ups. It’s really a luck based title. Not skill based.

Issue with pets and proposed fix

in Ranger

Posted by: Polaritie.4851

Polaritie.4851

I recently made a similar topic. Rangers are the only class that can be handicapped by their class mechanic. Ranger starts handicapped and the pet has to make up for it.

Power builds can never reach the potential of other classes because the pet is dead or unusable in many situations (some PVE boss battles and WvW walls).

Even if the pet is alive, your stats mean less than other classes, because your weaponskills do less damage regardless due to pet being a portion of damage… BUT your pet doesn’t scale with your stats!

This inherently means that power, condition damage, etc. is less valuable to a ranger than anyone else.

DEVS PLS READ: Solving Pet Issues

in Ranger

Posted by: Polaritie.4851

Polaritie.4851

They could just make the pets invulnerable and un-targetable. That way the pets don’t draw aggro and thus the bosses leave them alone. It’s not like their damage is game breaking, at the moment, especially with the damage reduction they just received. Other classes are allowed to have their 100% dps, yet Rangers fight to keep 40% of their dps alive.

They can just be an extension of the rangers attack.. kinda like an additional arrow every 1-2 seconds

This, exactly.

Just make them unable to attack anything outside of a certain radius of the ranger, take no aggro, and have infinite health (but can be CC’d, so that cripple and such work to keep them away). Then it essentially becomes rangers have 2/3 “weapons” equipped at any given time (So you could have Greatsword/Canine, for instance, using Fern Wolf for the regeneration/water field on F2).

Making pets essentially auto-firing gear or something would solve the issues faced by players at the endgame nicely, I think.

The loss of beartanks for leveling is a separate issue, but I don’t think its insurmountable when pets don’t go down.

Ideally, there’d be a way to manually fire pet skills, but that’s a problem for another day (I think it would be cool if there was a weapon that could manually trigger pet skills, or an elite that basically had the ranger possess their pet – making 1-5 the pet’s auto-abilities, the F2, and a new skill. Possibly keep utilities open? I dunno)

Conjure Weapons: Weapon swap?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Polaritie.4851

Polaritie.4851

I was thinking something along those lines as well, although my idea works with attunements, instead of weapon swap. Sorry for the hijack.

First of all, IMO, conjure weapon skills need to be reworked.

The only situationally useful utilities are hammer and greatsword, and that is only in very specific builds, or for using one or two skills before dropping them. Their skills need to be looked at and improved and/or reworked to make them worth keeping for longer than 10 seconds.

First, drop the charges, OR, get rid of the time limit. Having both is too restricting and makes using conjures too much a hassle. Oh, and make their conjuring instant.

Second, they shouldn’t lock all of your attunements. Conjure weapon should occupy only its own attunement. For example, when you conjure a Fiery Greatsword, you gain its skills only in fire attunement. Other attunements remain untouched and you can freely switch between them. Also, you can always press ; to drop it and return to your real weapon skills.

Third, Conjures need traits that are actually worth using. Perhaps a trait that grants specific boon for 10 seconds when you summon a conjure. Gaining 10 second protection would make people actually use Earth Shield. That is, after you make its skills not suck.
__________________________________________________________________
tl;dr: Rework useless skills, make Conjures tied to specific attunement (like FGS – fire attunement) so we can still switch to other attunements (still can use ; to drop the wapon) and give us ineresting traits to spec into, like 10 sec of protection when conjuring an Earth Shield.
__________________________________________________________________
That would solve some of the issues Conjures suffer. It would give eles sort of “pseudo” weapon swap that would give them more range flexibility, like range from Frost Bow to melee centric DD ele or Lightning hammer for ranged SD ele. It would make them similar- yet different from Engineers weapon kits in the sense of on-demand mechanic, instead of using one or two skills before ditching them completely.

Actually, Ice Bow is a godsend for D/D builds when you’re fighting something that demands you stay at a distance. Also, the 5 is a ridiculously strong stun – I’d equip that one skill as a utility on its own if I could.

Signets not worth using

in Elementalist

Posted by: Polaritie.4851

Polaritie.4851

I like signets for a 20/10/10/30/0 build – activating a signet will give you and your party a fire aura, swiftness, fury, and protection. I think it’s a very underutilized support build.

I’ve been kicking around a 30/10/30/0/0 idea as well – permanent burning basically for the +10% from that, plus 10% for stone splinters, constant swiftness/fury from fire aura, etc.

Signets isn’t impossible. Elementalists are pretty good about being able to pick a skill type to build around. What isn’t possible right now is a single-attunement build (there’s not enough traits for one – if water spells were more powerful base, you might be able to do it for that with the vulnerability damage bonus and cooldowns, and I’ve considered a conjure build using attunement buffs since you can switch attunement while conjuring, but… it’s not viable atm)

Writ in Stone just demands that you build around it – it’s an incredibly powerful trait.

How do you feel about leveling alts

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Polaritie.4851

Polaritie.4851

I have 6 level 80 characters and 11 character slots. There were a few tedious patches while leveling, especially for those professions that don’t come together until level 40 or so. But, on the whole I found each alt easier and faster to level than the one before and each was great fun as I explored the new profession as well as the gameworld again. The level cap is high, perhaps too high. But, the leveling process was much easier, less tedious, and more fun than any other MMO I’ve played. This I regard as a strength of GW2.

My only concern around alts is vertical progression. with 6 80’s and more on the way chasing stats to keep them current would be impossible if the progression is not extremely slow. I had 6 max level characters in WoW and it felt like a death march keeping them current. I hope they can keep GW2 alt-friendly in that regard. The other concern is just awareness of the altoholic in deciding whether items should be soulbound or account bound. As an altoholic I generally favor account bound items—the more the better.

Heck, just do away with soulbound for most stuff. Let me transfer over an exotic armor between characters.

Mantra rework proposal.

in Suggestions

Posted by: Polaritie.4851

Polaritie.4851

The big issue with mantras right now is the casting time – you could be doing a ton of things during it (weaponskills, other utilities, setting up clones, etc.), to where it feels pointless except when preparing them before a fight. Recasting mid battle just screams inefficiency (I mean, why charge up attacks for 3 seconds instead of just hacking the enemy apart for similar damage while not taking hits? Yes, I know there ARE mantra builds in use, but I feel that it’s a horrible opportunity cost to use them)

To that end, I propose reworking mantras to passively reload. As an example, getting a charge of Pain every 4-5 seconds (still maxing at 2/3). Healing every 6-8, etc.

Obviously, the traits would also need to be reworked.

Harmonious – increases max charges to 3
Empowering – 2% damage for each stored charge (If it’s 4% per type, everyone’d just leave one hanging and only cast the second for massive +damage)
Mastery – increases reload speed
Protected – +armor or -% damage per stored charge
Restorative – Heal allies each time a charge is loaded. (Or used, but loaded keeps it as a steady stream instead of a massive health spike)

Thoughts?

There is no possible way a Ranger could kill my Mesmer. I was killing level 80 Rangers by level 40 in WvW. For that matter any 2v1 situation where the second opponent is the Ranger, I’ll ignore the Ranger until I kill the other person, then easily kill the Ranger. The only time this is an issue is if I’m facing a D/D Elementalist, or a good Warrior at the same time I’m facing the Ranger.

Yes, but a lot of rangers are just AWFUL, I didn’t realize how bad a lot of them were until I started pugging with other rangers, my god… They’d spend the entire instance with a dead pet, and get downed at least twice each fight, I might as well have brought under leveled players…

Fight a ranger that’s actually good and they’ll wreck you.

In a dungeon – if the boss can off your pets easily, use ranged pets. Or pets you’re only using for the skill (Red Moa, Jungle Stalker, Blue Moa, etc. for buffing. Wolf for Fear, since it goes through boss immunity, Hyena can summon a sacrificial unit with half power every 20 sec… etc.)
