I’m interested in joining your guild

I have recently come back after a fairly long break and have just started HoT.
I’ve got 5 lv80 characters – mesmer, revenant, necro, ele, ranger – and just under 3500 AP.

Would love to hear from you ingame ^^

"Play How I Want" Is Gone

Some ppl dont like any changes. They scream for some every day but when they come they are upset. Evolution is only way how to survive

I don’t think I’ve seen a single person on this forum complaining about Anet making changes to the game in general.
However, what bugs most people (I think) is that they seem to be mainly making unnecessary changes to features that didn’t need changing in the first place.
And fair enough if these changes appear to be, in fact, an improvement to the old. But unfortunately they hardly ever are.

New player - How do I make this "fun"?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Scrivs.4501

Scrivs.4501

I’ve personally never seen it, but I’m fairly certain that Angry Joe’s review was made before the so called ‘New Player Experience’ update.
Which did exactly the opposite as what it was supposed to do; make it a more fun experience for new players.

However, the more you level up the more features will unlock so I’d say just give it another chance and stick with it for a while. There really are quite a lot of fun things to do for new players, honestly. It just looks like there isn’t during the lower levels.

Also, finding a fun, casual guild will definitely help making your experience more fun.

Traits for newly created characters

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Scrivs.4501

Scrivs.4501

Yes, you’re actually dis-couraged to unlock the traits because you’re sent all over the place and into regions you may not have any interest in visiting (like, say, doing the JP in Eternal. WvW).

I agree, but this does come second though.
Because I don’t even have a clue about what’s required to unlock certain traits in the first place. As this is not mentioned anywhere in-game.
if I would look this up on the wiki and then realise that I have to travel across the entire map for a specific trait then yes, i would indeed be very discouraged.

Been levelling an elementalist lately (first new character after the NPE) and this trait unlocking system just feels completely random to me now.
Every now and then I do something which apparently unlocks a trait, but most of the time it isn’t one that I’m interested in or was in need of so I just don’t even bother opening up the trait panel anymore.
it’s gotten to the point where it’s just an annoyance to get this pop-up window in your screen now.

What excites you about the future of GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Scrivs.4501

Well as of yet we don’t know what the future holds for GW2 so there’s simply nothing that I can be excited about.
But if I had to make a wish it would be for an expansion with a new continent (preferably Cantha), new profession(s) and new dungeons.

But yeah, like I said, that’s just a wish :p

Traits for newly created characters

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Scrivs.4501

There’s a lot of reasons to distance yourself from this game, but the NPE isn’t one of them.

Well a close friend of mine recently started playing the game, but when I asked him what he thought of it and what level he was he said that he was lv6 but already quit playing again because he had no idea what he had to do and thought it was boring.

So because of this I decided to visit him at his place so that I could accompany him while he was playing and explain to him how everything worked and introduce him to the various features the game had.

However, as I hadn’t created a new character myself since the introduction of the NPE, I now noticed how terribly faulty this system actually is…

Because when I proceeded to inform him of the various activities that you could do in every map (map completion → world completion, vistas, gathering, dailies, monthlies etc. etc.) I noticed that none of these things were even visible for him yet.

At first I thought he had maybe changed his game settings or something, but as this wasn’t the case I had a look on the internet and found out that all of these features will progressively unlock based on your character level… what the actual f??

So as a result I had to log into my account to show him all the things that I was able to do at a higher level to convince him that the game wasn’t as boring as it looked to him and that there were, in fact, plenty of things to do.

I still cannot get my head round what Anet was thinking to implement this NPE. What reason could they possible have had for this?

I remember when I started playing GW2 roughly 2 years ago I had this overwhelming sense of epicness. A feeling that there were endless things to do and discover (which later on, after multiple max lvl characters, proved not to be the case). But now that I have witnessed the NPE through the eyes of an actual beginning player I realized that that feeling is now completely gone, even at the beginning of the game.

Yeah I absolutely despise this new trait system. As a result I’m just not paying any attention to my build any more. Simply because I have no idea how certain traits have to be unlocked now. (and yes, I understand that the wiki probably has these answers for me, but I find it very strange that any of this isn’t mentioned in-game)

Upcoming Daily/Monthly changes 12/10/14

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Scrivs.4501

Scrivs.4501

Whether or not this is an improvement to the current daily/monthly system (I personally never had a problem with it), I am getting kind of sick of the fact that ANet is constantly changing features that were already in the game and that we all grew accustomed to.

The trait system didn’t need to be updated (i absolutely despise the current system) and nor did this. (again, not saying that this is or isn’t an improvement, but it simply wasn’t necessary)

To me it’s starting to look like that’s all they’re doing over there at ArenaNet; unnecessarily changing stuff in the hope of keeping us satisfied.
Which seems like a massive waste of time, money and resources that could be better spent elsewhere.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Let say Anet benefits were 100-150 Million in 2013

Assuming that GW2 has about 1.5M active players and each one buy an expansion for $ 40 dollars. Then we have anet sales for this expansion would be about $ 60 million.

Anet work for 2.5 years for a gain of only 60 million ?

If anet launches expansion will just for love to fans not for business..

Such a rubbish point. None of this is based on facts, just assumptions.
It’s also not that simple. There’s loads of other aspects that have to be considered.

Here, I’m a failure story. I have played the game since launch with a break or two in the past six months. At most I think I had 300g, but that involved having excess gems from purchasing things like infinite pick axe or other temporary/seasonal items.

On average I hover around 50g in my pocket. right now I have 20g and it does not move very far.

I do not farm to any huge extent, I salvage everything as I am still farming mats. I upgrade full stacks to higher tiers when capped out on lower level mats.

I salvage yellows for ectos and bank or use them myself and I save exotics to try to mystic forge on the off chance for a precursor.

I have gotten a few random exotic items I was able to sell for short term boosts in gold, but nothing concrete.

I have “tried” to play the market. Flipping I fail at and investing never pays off, so I fail at understanding how to do it….buy low sell high? I use gw2spidy and look at trends, I buy low and sit on things but after a week or two I give up and sell it back to break even or minimize loss.

So I either need to farm for hours and do large community events, or I need to learn how to trading post better….or both

Majority of my time is spent in spvp and theory crafting builds.

Am I the average player, or is everyone else way better off than me?

Nah don’t worry, I’m exactly the same. I think at one time I had little over a 100g but then I reached lv80 on an alt and due to having to gear him up I got back to around 20g.
On average I also hover around 50-60g or so.

That’s why I never even bothered trying to craft a legendary. It has always just seemed like an impossible task for me.

Major problem in all games.
10k of skills,
only 10 are decent and are usable for build.

This is indeed the case in most MMOs. WoW being a perfect example where you could have hundreds of skills on your screen while probably only using between 10 and 20.

With the current combat system of GW2, however, where the type weapon you’re wielding determines what skills you can use, this wouldn’t really be a problem I think.

This was also not the case in GW1 where you also had a limited amount of skills you could use at one time, whilst they still had a ton of skills in the game.

So worrying about GW2 turning into a WoW clone regarding skills if they would add more is not realistic imo.

Paid Expansion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Scrivs.4501

Scrivs.4501

Expansions are high cost-high risk-medium reward.
Gem store is low cost-low risk-high reward.

For these reasons, an expansion is not likely.

I’ve said it before, but I think that this argument is fairly irrelevant.

As a new expansion (featuring, for the sake of the conversation, a new continent, classes, races, etc) would not only, as Galen said, bump the revenue of the Gem Store by bringing back old players, but would also open up a whole range of possible new items for the store.

Of course mistakes happen (a while back I wasted 300ish Arah tokens on a medium chest instead of the heavy chest I wanted and have done similarly silly mistakes). But I honestly would just be annoyed if I had to clear away a prompt every time I went to sell or buy something. I just don’t think there needs to be safety net for everything.

Again, I agree. But it’s not about ‘something’ here though. It’s about just ascended items. (as the title of the thread states)

Of course, I would also go completely bonkers if I had to click to confirm every time I wanted to sell a blue or green item.

You haven’t changed my opinion on the matter, but I do admit that those are good points you made.

Maybe I just remember those days of GW1 all too well.
I, too, got bored with the content of Prophecies after some time even though I hadn’t fully explored all of it yet, like FoW and UW for example. But Factions, and after that Nightfall, both revamped my interest and enthusiasm for the game in such a great way that it made me want to keep playing for many more years.

I think just paying attention would be better than a pop-up notification. When I’m vendoring, I basically go by color. If it’s green or blue (and not a cloth item), it gets sold. If it’s yellow, gold/orange, or pink, it stays.

Yes, of course. I do this too. But that’s not entirely the point I think.

The point is; what if you happen to, by accident, sell a valuable item to a merchant without properly checking what you just did (who knows, maybe it’s 4 in the morning and you’re not thinking straight anymore), and you happen to not notice it until the next day resulting in you not being able to get it back.
Wouldn’t you, in that case, rather have had a simple pop-up window asking you if you’re sure to sell this item to prevent this from happening?

Again, I fully understand your point and I agree with you. But in the end we’re all still human and mistakes can happen. Even when you normally always think before you act.

Your arguments about ‘content locusts’ blazing through a new expansion in two weeks as a reason not to release an expansion at all really sounds so incredibly stupid and irrelevant to me…

Why would the play style of that small group of players be of any influence to whether they should release an expansion or not?
It doesn’t represent how the vast majority of the current players play this game in any way whatsoever.

Of course there will be players that will rush through said expansion in a matter of days/weeks and be done with it. They will always be there, and they always have been.

I’m sure that there were players who completed the story of Factions or Nightfall in a couple of weeks, or even days, back in the days of GW1.
So because of that, would you rather not have wanted those expansions at all?

I strongly believe that if they would bring out an expansion with a similar range of new content as what Factions and Nightfall brought to GW1, that this content would be played, alongside the original content, by the vast majority of the current players for the rest of the game’s lifespan.
Not to mention the amount of players that would return to the game because of it.

Honestly though, and maybe it’s me, maybe I’m missing something, I don’t know, but the fact that you would even come up with arguments like that truly baffles me.

Exactly.

Of course you should always check what you’re doing, and yes the invisible bags are indeed of great help. But who in his right mind would purposely want to sell ascended armor pieces to a merchant for next to no value?

A simple pop-up asking for your confirmation wouldn’t be out of place or annoying when it comes to items like these.

Yeah I just came back to the game about a week ago, after a break of several months, and instead of starting with one of my several lvl 80 characters I decided to just create a new character with a new class and start fresh.

It is now level 58 by literally just exploring maps and I honestly haven’t noticed anything different from what I was used to when levelling my other characters many months ago. In fact, this thread is the first time I read about the NPE as I didn’t really keep up to date with any news on the game during the months I wasn’t playing.

So yeah, I also have a hard time understanding where this frustrating of your’s is coming from.
Just exploring maps and working on getting all the hearts, vistas and pois and skill points should honestly be more than enough to maintain a steady pace in levelling up your character.

Time to refocus and clarify GW2's goals?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

An expansion will never happen in the lifetime of GW2, because ANet depends on constant cash flow from the cash shop and needs to produce contents that would promote the cash shop stuff. They cannot just sit back for one year and create an expansion which people would run through in the matter of days and then ask for another expansion and so on.

A matter of days? What are you talking about?

The new ‘content’ they are putting out now is content that players run through in a matter of days, if not hours.
Whereas I think most of us are talking about an expansion similar to Factions or Nightfall, i.e. new world / race / class etc.
Content that would be played, alongside the original content, for the rest of the game’s lifespan. Content that would also, obviously, feature a whole range of new possible items for the cash shop.

Not a bug, but I was wondering why there is no option to instantly move to your last viewed post in a thread, or at least an option to head to the final post in a thread?
I know of several much lesser known, much smaller forums that do have this feature.

It’s just that it can be quite annoying to have to go to the start of a thread, then move to the final page, and then scroll down to look for the post you last viewed to see what’s new every single time.
Especially with threads that you’re actively following.

Currently, the forum only displays the name of the user who placed the last post with a red arrow next to it (for whatever reason that is), but because I personally never pay attention to usernames, especially not with big threads, this seems fairly pointless to me.

I’m just saying, if only you could click this red arrow to head to the specific post right away. Wouldn’t that be a nice addition to the forum?
Can’t imagine this being hard to implement as well. But then again, I’m no web designer.

Anyway, just a thought.

Hi everyone!

I’m currently installing GW2 as we speak so I will start playing in probably less than an hour . And because playing on your own isn’t nearly as much fun as playing with a guild full of lovely people I thought I’d try this and see if there would be any guilds that would like to have me on board.

Some info about myself:

My name is Kevin, i’m 21 years old and I’m from The Netherlands.
I started playing GW1 since launch and have played through all of the campaigns multiple times. I just absolutely loved it.
Now I’ve finally decided to give GW2 a go and I’m expecting to fall in love with it all over again. And especially now that the summer is coming up I just need something to keep me occupied haha.

I’m a very social, friendly and mature kind of guy and I love joking around. I also don’t mind helping others whenever that is needed.
I’m also a huge music lover. I’ve got a huge collection of vinyl records and I also work in a record store here in Rotterdam.

The main thing I’m looking for in a guild is basically just being able to have fun with eachother as a group and helping eachother out when needed. I absolutely hate it when guilds take things way to serious and get kitten ed off about every little thing, or just say “check the wiki” everytime you ask a question.

But yeah, that’s about it I think! I hope this gave you an idea of what I’m like and what I’m looking for.
Thanks for your time and I hope to hear from you!

- Kevin.
