I think Jeremy Soule’s experience with DAWs, VST plugins, etc. impact my view here because his synthesized music sounds much more realistic and conveys more emotion than the synthesized music from the earlier stages of the Living World. So the fact that Maclaine and Leif have composed music that has been recorded live is a nice, welcomed change.

Jeremy Soule did a fantastic job with the themes for each of the original Guild Wars campaigns, along with several of the pieces we hear throughout the campaigns, and so I’ve got a lot of faith in him, whereas it’s harder to have faith in newer composers, but this Living Soundtrack video showed that the music is in good hands.

I would still love for Soule to compose the main theme for the Canthan release (whenever that is) because his Factions theme is unique, bittersweet, and sets the stage for that game and continent so well. It’s hard to imagine the Canthan suite of music in different hands.

Maclaine, Leif, and Stan have composed a much smaller scope of music for the game than Soule has, so considering how much time the former and latter composers have had for their respective scopes, I think it’s only natural that Soule’s music blends together more than Maclaine’s/Leif’s/Stan’s music as a whole, and I understand that OP recognizes that.

The Zephyrite Theme was also his work (to those hoping it was Soule’s) and that’s why it sounds slightly different from Soule’s typical work, because it isn’t his work.

(Just to clarify, that piece is by Leif Chappelle.)

So anyways, I can’t wait to listen to the rest of this season’s music!

This is great! I mean, not that we can’t link accounts, but it seems we both have the same (or very similar) issue.

I’m using a different username (NCSOFT suffix) to log into GW1 than GW2. I can log into this website with the GW1 information, and it says my accounts are linked. But if I log into this site with the GW2 info, it appears my accounts have not been linked. I don’t have access to GW2 with the GW1 info, though, so I’m still using two different sets of info to log into GW1 and GW2.

Hi Support Team,

I am trying to link my Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 accounts via the “Upgrade or Link Accounts” tab of the “My Account” section. After entering my Guild Wars username and password, I’m taken to the success page for linking accounts (with the birthday quaggan), but my username changes from “Shew.6827” to what looks to be like <serial code>.<another 4-digit number>. If I log out of my account and log back in, returning to the upgrade/link accounts section, the page asks me to input my Guild Wars username and password again, as if I haven’t linked the accounts.

I checked in-game (GW2) to see if Kimmes the Historian would return my rewards, but he acts as though I haven’t linked my accounts. I’ve made sure to switch the HoM to account mode in GW1. Am I doing anything incorrectly, or is there something wrong with the site? Please let me know if there’s anymore information I should provide you with. I obtained the associated Guild Wars account via the in-game store.

How to transcribe music to in-game notes?

in Audio

Posted by: Shew.6827

Shew.6827

The in-game harp’s key is C major/A minor, and you’ve access to C3 through C6. You’re going to have to transpose the piece or arrange it to play it on the harp.

I don’t know how much music theory you know, so just in case you haven’t correlated this, C3 – B3 (+ C4) is the lowest octave on the skill bar, C4 – B4 (+ C5) is the second octave, and C5 – B5 (+ C6) is the third. Skills correlate to notes as follows:

  • 1 – C
  • 2 – D
  • 3 – E
  • 4 – F
  • 5 – G
  • 6 – A
  • 7 – B
  • 8 – C
  • 9 – shift down octave
  • 10 – shift up octave

Starting with the C3+ octave, you could shift your transcription up a fourth, fifth, or an octave. Shifting it up an octave, your notes are perfectly fine. Just start with A3 (skill 6 from the lowest octave).

If you shift it up a fifth, you’ll miss out on an F sharp (originally high B in measure 2); if you shift it up a fourth, you’ll miss out on a B flat (originally F in measures 1 – 3) and an A (originally E in measure 4).

Having said that, I shifted your transcription up a fourth and changed a few harmonies to account for the missing B flat and A. The altered harmonies preserve the originals as best as possible.

  • q – quarter note
  • e – eighth note
  • s – sixteenth note
  • . – dotted note
  1. e(D3) – e(A3) – e(A3/F4) – e(D4/G4) – e(D3) – e(G3) – e(G4) – e(D4)
  2. e(D3) – e(G3) – e(G3/E4) – e(A3/F4) – e(D3) – e(A3) – e(E4) – e(D4)
  3. e(D3) – e(A3) – e(A3/F4) – e(D4/G4) – e(D3) – e(G3) – e(G4) – e(D4)
  4. q(C3/E4) – q(E3/C4) – e.(D3/D4) – s(D4) – s(E4) – s(F4) – s(E4) – s(D4)

Note that in line 4, I added an extra note (the D4 before E4) to be more like the original piece. Of course, you’re going to have to manually switch octaves when you go from 3 to 4 and vice versa. The key-based version of this arrangement is below, with octave-shifting indicated by d (9) or u (10):

  1. 2 – 6 – 6/u 4 – 2/5 – d 2 – 5 – u 5 – 2
  2. d 2 – 5 – 5/u 3 – d 6/u 4 – d 2 – 3 – u 3 – 2
  3. d 2 – 6 – 6/u 4 – 2/5 – d 2 – 5 – u 5 – 2
  4. d 1/u 3 – d 3/8 – 2/u 2 – 2 – 3 – 4 – 3 – 2

I really like the new method of marketing for the Super Smash Bros. series as of Brawl. If I remember correctly, for SSBB, they released a small teaser once in a while leading up to release, such as revealing a new character or new item. And with the new SSB, they’re doing the same, but more frequently. I wouldn’t mind if ArenaNet did this with S2. A picture or some other form of teaser every now and then leading up to release. Good way to generate hype and get people speculating.

Even though I’ve posted this in another thread here and The Cantha Thread, it’s pretty important in that it implies the Zephyrites did, in fact, go to Cantha. Not only do we have the dialogue from this NPC you mentioned, but if you speak with Marjory by the Sky Docks waypoint, she’ll mention that the new bazaar aesthetic bears similarity with items passed down from her grandparents. And, well, Marjory has some Canthan blood in her.

Marjory says the Zephyrites’ new decorations, etc. are similar to those that her grandparents owned when you speak with her by the Sky Docks waypoint. Since Marjory is Canthan, and given the dialogue from that NPC by the Bazaar Docks waypoint, this is pretty strong implication that they traveled to Cantha.

I think they’ve gotten the semi-realistic, timeless aesthetic down. Any game shows its age, but the artists have done a really good job here. That being said, I love exploring, jumping off of cliffs, and taking it easy. I hope they’ll expand the continent and expand to other continents, as exploration is very fulfilling, for me, in the game.

Believe it or not but Vocal minority is a thing.
And there certainly isn’t an equal amount of praise and complaints on this forum. People who are content are a lot less vocal then people who are not, it’s just human nature.

Sorry if I wasn’t clear, but I didn’t say there were equal amounts of praise and complaints. I said that people who aren’t content with the game complain on the forums, and players who are content with the game play the game.

Because of that, there’s a tendency for there to be more complaints than praise on the forums. But to say the minority of players don’t like Liadri based on the forums alone or the fact that “vocal minority” has a ring to it isn’t accurate. You’d have to compare how many people are attempting the Liadri fight vs. how many complaints about Liadri are on the forums, one method or another.

Everyone hated Liadri

in Living World

Posted by: Shew.6827

Shew.6827

It’s called vocal minority. The people who hate her and have a hard time beating her will complain on the forums. While the people who actually like her are busy playing the game and getting their Liadri miniature.

The notion that there are more complaints than praise on the forums says nothing about minority or majority, it’s just the nature of whether players are playing the game or not. Players who aren’t content with the game complain on the forums, being vocal, and players who are content play the game, being just as vocal in that they’re playing the game. Adding “minority” or “majority” to that needs comparative evidence.

I put Cantha in the same category as mounts. It’s a dead horse and it’s not happening. The story of GW2 is centered around dragons most of whom are based in Tyria (Primordus, Jormag, Kralkatorrik, Zhaitan, and Mordremoth). We’ll most likely see Elona long before Cantha because of Kralkatorrik. The only missing dragon is the deep sea dragon and I doubt ANet will open access to Cantha for that one dragon when we have 4 other dragons to contend with right here in Tyria.

I don’t doubt the writers’ abilities to come up with an explanation for travelling to Cantha if that’s what the players are asking for. Sure, there are constraints that they’ll have to work with, i.e., the other dragons’ presence in Tyria, etc.; that’s normal to work with, though, and there’s enough unknown about Cantha and the world that they could develop a convincing reason to expand there. Also, I wouldn’t put it in the same category as mounts because mounts never existed in GW1, so I would think mounts are not as much of an expectation for players/tendency for the devs as Cantha is.

While it’s certainly a blend of Asian motifs, probably influenced by scores for films about Asia as well, its melody is played by an erhu (well, synthesized), which is Chinese. Btw, this is some beautiful erhu/piano music. :-)

Here’s some more Cantha hype, in the style of the races’ and professions’ biographies on the GW2 website! :-P

Tengu
Ages, years, and seasons—the tengu race has spanned many. Though they once soared with the winds, they lost this feat long ago. Despite this, their affinity with the winds has not waned. These stalwart, avian beings understand that the four winds empower the cycles and that it is time to travel from their aerie.

The tengu once prospered throughout the world, but the Canthan clans—the Angchu and the Sensali—are certainly the most recognized, as their history is intertwined with the humans. While the Angchu and Sensali of Shing Jea Island were at war with each other and the Sensali were at war with the humans, human-expansion brought disease to the Angchu fledglings, and so both clans fought a bi-centurial war against the humans. The Angchu and humans were able to achieve peace, although the Sensali never ceased their aggression.

Shiro Tagachi’s return disrupted this peace when his spirit conceived the Afflicted, plagued, hostile creatures who were once humans and other animals. The Empire of the Dragon formed the Ministry of Purity to cleanse Cantha of the Afflicted, but in their fear and zealotry, they annexed non-humans from their lands as well.

In the Great Tsunami’s wake, the tengu assembled above Sanctum Cay and founded their aerie, the Dominion of Winds, where they would remain in isolation for years. Under the Emperor and within four houses—North, South, East, and West, tengu society has thrived within the Empire’s walls. They are a spiritual race, honoring the Celestials in ceremony, combat, education, and trade.

Only recently have the tengu opened their gates to other races, but they wait to unveil their reasoning for this. Perhaps they view the deep-sea dragon’s migration to Cantha as an opportunity to reclaim their homelands, or perhaps their keen eyes watch something in the wind unknown to other races. What knowledge will the tengu bring forth?

Your Tengu Character
When you create your tengu character, you will choose the house to which you belong. Tengu of House North are the spiritual backbone of the Empire. House South consists of scouts that protect the Empire from enemies. Tengu of House East educate young fledglings on their race’s history. No foreign trade occurs without the merchants of House West.

Your story begins in the Dominion of Winds, an idyllic aerie watched over by the Emperor and his steadfast scouts. Journey outside the aerie’s walls and perceive Tyria as your ancestors once did. Will you answer the wind that summons you?

Stargazer
Stargazers commune with the celestial universe, weaving astral energy in the midst of battle. To their allies, they are a constant source of resolve, and to their enemies, they are an unpredictable force.

  • Main hand: scepter, throwing star
  • Off hand: focus, throwing star, torch, warhorn
  • Two-handed: polearm, staff
  • Aquatic: spear, trident

Stargazing
Through their affinity with the celestial universe, stargazers inherit particular celestial characteristics.

  • Luminosity: Luminosity accumulates with time, and when full, the stargazer glows with starlight that occasionally blinds and burns enemies nearby.
  • Luck: When this skill activates, the stargazer gains a random boon for each blind or burning enemy nearby at the cost of reducing their luminosity.

Special Spell Types

  • Celestials: Stargazers call upon celestials, beings of starlight that protect their caller and do not easily perish. When threatened with defeat, celestials divide into two lesser celestials.
  • Cycles: The stargazer uses chained skills called cycles on allies and enemies, affected exponentially with each phase of a cycle. For example, a stargazer activates Unto Day to damage and burn nearby enemies; the stargazer then activates Unto Night to damage and chill nearby enemies, but if an enemy is already burning, Unto Night’s damage increases.

Anyone know where I might find sheet music for Brass? I play french horn but it’s hard to find good sources.

I haven’t seen any around, but I’ll keep my eyes peeled. You might be able to get away with using some of the above sheets as a basis if you can parse the melodies from ‘em (and potentially transpose ’em). If you’re going to try that out, I’d recommend starting with “The Vigil Goes to War” since the accompaniment is easier to deduce from the melody than it is with some of the other pieces.

That said, I think most of us are just dying from anticipation about whether our favourite lands are going to be explorable again.

Pretty much this. And it doesn’t help that the living story has somewhat felt like a delay for more fulfilling, permanent content. Exploring the Maguuma in LS2 might satiate this anticipation, but I’m still hopeful that we’ll hear more concrete, official info about NCSOFT’s and ArenaNet’s stances on Cantha.

So with this new idea, you’d have a Chinese styled sub region, a Korean-styled sub region, and a Japnese-styled sub region. Also it will not be one ruler anymore, but three rulers for each region all in a equal standing of government. Like a triarchy and yet backed by a ministry like Kryta that limits their power and voices the peoples needs to them from each of the 5 regions.

Assuming NCSOFT is currently against their implementing Cantha in GW2, it would be so painfully obvious that they’re altering the lore to appease NCSOFT if they went this route, since it’s such a departure from Usoku’s [recently forced] unification of the Kurzicks and Luxon under the Empire. Not trying to knock your idea, I’m just hoping for the best— that ArenaNet can incorporate their ideas for Cantha in the game.

Official word would be nice, though, on NCSOFT’s current impact on incorporating Cantha into GW2.

The music should uplift the game’s immersion, not detract from it. I hope they will invest in better samples for Leif and Maclaine to use. The Wintersday and Halloween music from GW, for example, may have been specifically composed for the festivals, but they upheld the immersion and were beautifully arranged; however, the Wintersday and Halloween music for GW2 gives the festivals almost a goofy atmosphere.

EDIT: That being said, they’ve composed a bit more since these festival themes, and I think they’re improving.

If they are going to continue to expand the story at a similar pace, then it’d be nice if they had multiple story arcs (i.e., not all connected to one villain) that alternate per living story release. I don’t count SAB. So it doesn’t bother me as much that she’s responsible for the Molten Allience, Aetherblades, etc., just that they’re taking too long to progress with this one arc.

I’m curious as to why an electric guitar is the top prize. Well, we’ve already established that the music does not fit this trailer, nor does it fit Guild Wars 2, so is the guitar just a tie-in with the music or is the music a tie-in with the guitar?

If the guitar is a tie-in with the music, then I would recommend (again) that ArenaNet question their music direction. If the music is a tie-in with the guitar, that just seems a bit random/exluding and I would recommend ArenaNet question their prize selection next time. But regardless, it’s an out-of-game gift, so it’s not that big of a deal, in my opinion.

Remove it in PvE. Keep it in PvP.

These posts are so confusing…

Do people not realize graphics can be changed client-side? There should be an option across all game modes to remove the Aegis effect and it will only affect your screen. That said, the option everyone wants is for the Aegis to be removed from your toon only, probably.

The things you need to spell out for people…

I know that some of us want the issue of aegis & character aesthetics to be resolved on others’ screens as well so we can show off how we intend our characters to look. Given that the game’s rewards are primarily aesthetic awards, understand how some of us care about how others see our characters.

I don’t want to run around with the issue resolved on my side knowing that everyone else is seeing aegis clipping with/hiding my off-hand weapon. They could redesign the effect to not be so obtrusive; e.g., it could fade in and out every few seconds and/or have a different look.

Just found out about this weapon, thought it looked pretty sweet, and searched Google for a similar thread to post in. Are there any plans to fix this? The weapon’s positioning on a character’s back is really abnormal, making it a huge turn-off from using it.

I…man, this is embarrassing, but where is that song heard? I can honestly say in nearly 7 years of GW, I can not for the life of me, say I’ve heard it prior to this.

When Factions came out, it was the login screen’s tune. Now you can hear it if you go to the in-game store and click on Factions.
