SAB: Ok what kind of game is this?

For those not familiar with anet, please take a look a past april fools jokes in Guild Wars 1.

Well, if you are not familiar with the retro look. Take look back at how graphics were back in the SNES, Nintedo 64, PSone and the 3dfx Voodoo in the 90s era. Its a reminiscence of that age with rough looking graphics.

For gameplay, styles and sounds uses Zelda, Mario, Ninja Gaiden, Final Fight and everything from the 80s and 90s. Its pretty amazing what they are offering and doing for a april fools joke for next to nothing.
Final Fight-Continue

Ninja Gaiden-The Crusher might be inspired from this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVz9__a8x-I

As for music you can use for example a modern game with retro style Retro City Rampage, more commonly know as chiptune music, used in the 80s and 90s. Heres a link from the producer explaining how they can make all of this possible. The Making of a ROM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hvx4xXhZMrU

I dont think the music of the character select screen brakes any immersion the game has nor the inclusion of this update since its entirely left as optional (and free) for you to do so.

You cant buy a ford truck from the store but since its launch in August 2012, theres a lot of dresses you can buy thats from our world and not from GW2.

Looks like someone already posted the link. Maybe an assault rifle.

From what I can see is that some players dont like looking at a retro look nor another people with retro. Remember this will not interfere with your Main Quest, Dungeons, WvW, sPvP nor anything else.

One more thing, all events are more or so like this one, huge changes and goodies, especially Halloween and Christmas events.

Chest Loot Timer, anti-melee or just dumb?

I haven spot that many enemies, 2 people can solo run the whole SAB. Its more entertaining if you have a whole party though.

If you want to do it with a low party (less than 5) and as fast as you can, run to the bee hives with your team, get all the baubles and take the shortest route. Bonus if you have someone with bombs and knows all the secrets(you need to wiki them).

You need to be more specific about what you want in a “Experienced” player. A player can have a lot of hours into one class and understand that he/she is “Experienced” enough for what he/she is doing but not understand the future perils of the dungeon.

Obviously the ones joining did not understand your purpose.

Is New AC dying?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: SideStep.1347

SideStep.1347

AC now is just not worth pugging. With guildies or people who know what they’re doing? Sure. But chances are, those groups are already pre-formed, and you will not see them.

One of my friends, who is VERY casual ( bought in november, hit 80 a few weeks ago ) tried AC yesterday as his first dungeon. Was very excited about it. He had to wait for an hour or so to find a group, then he told the group he was a firsttimer and got kicked . Another 30min and he finally got in, wiped at spider, wiped at kholer (no idea why they didnt skip) a couple times and everyone disbanded.
Tried again in the evening and finally made it, after just 4/5 wipes. He then saw the rewards, realized he could probably get more by killing one dragon in 10 mins, and whisped me “NEVER AGAIN”. He now refuses to run any dungeon at all, even when i invited him in a group of 4 guildies.
Asked him why, and then he told my this story, how he play games to have fun, and how wasting 4 hours total for 60 tokens, a few greens and alot of bile, is NOT fun.

Now, i’m not saying GW2 should cater to people like him, that would require making everything cof1 style, but anet should be REALLY careful in how to streamline difficulty.
There should be entry points, somewhere, even with lower rewards (story is no entry point, GL finding a group without gw2lfg, or even with it at off hours), and high-end challenging content with bigger rewards. The current system makes no sense at all, people are invited in ac exp at lv 45 BY THE GAME ITSELF, paths that take 1 hour give the same reward as others that take 7min , and the first dungeon you discover is harder than many other in lv 70-80 areas. It’s just a total mess…

Pretty much what happens in the game with players just playing to have some fun which I fall into that category.

After doing all this campaign stuff with my friends we stumble on to this dungeon, AC. We had a similar experience. No one understood why this things are made and who they are aiming to please. What is the entertaining value? The conclusion was that no reward is worth dying all that time.

Much like your friend and my friends, no one wants to do dungeons anymore. Im reading the forums and looks like nothing has changed since August 2012. No one likes to do dungeons. I feel that the concept of class, [be ranger, tank, healer, etc.] has no impact and you will fall no matter who you play as.

The only players getting the most out of them are the ones exploiting them as fast as they can and a minority are truly enjoying them.

Now that we are talking about this mode… why not more dungeons offer this kind of “get to know the dungeon first before getting killed a 100 times by instagibs on nomal mode” mode?

It can help struggling players to get to know the dungeons and enemies before deciding if it is worth it to do in the first place.

Im looking through the dungeon forums to see if the developers have made any changes or they still “Dark Souls instagib” mode difficult.

Camera fixed (lock on) on your target

in PvP

Posted by: SideStep.1347

SideStep.1347

Once you have a valid target for your skill, it will miss if the target is not on the (i think is around 60-70 degree cone) cone vision of your character.

In Guild Wars 1 you didnt have this problem. Your character in PvP will have executed the skill automatically and look at the valid target.

Melee characters-> If you have a valid target in GW 2 but the target is not on the cone of vision of your character, the melee character will executed the skill forward.
In GW 1 you didnt have this problem. If the target was besides you, your character would look at the target automatically and execute. The problem in GW 2 is that is a constant race with your mouse to execute a skill.

Range Characters-> Same here, you have a valid target, said target is within range of the skill, you will miss if the target is not on the cone of vision of your character.

What think is, if you have a valid target for a skill, said target is withing range why should the mouse fight you to the very end to execute said skill? If I was playing with a joystick a la action/hack ‘n’ slash games for consoles it wouldnt be much of a problem since you could use the second joystick and even then games like these have an autolock feature so the camera is fixed on your target.

In my opinion, this game requires too much grind

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SideStep.1347

SideStep.1347

Hi I like the rest of you bought into this game but I feel like I was punched in the gut and laughed at.
This game was suppose to built on not having grind. This was one of Anet’s key manifesto points however now:
1. Legendary weapon grind
2. Gold Grind – you need atleast 100 gold for the ideal build and armor you want. If you want any of the ‘special’ weapon look at grinding out atleast another 300-500 gold (legend range for a min of 1.5k to 2.5k) -unless your brilliant at investing or lucky your looking at around 50-60 hours of grinding to get the armor and build you want. Ironically in GW1 which was ‘suppose’ to be more of a grind this was alot simplier and easier.
Another key point of their manifesto was no gear grind as of now there is:
1. Ascended gear (what?! isn’t this what they said WOULD NOT happen? Did they not say how they disproved of this? How the game should be about having fun?)
They already stated they tend to add more gear grinds later how (Why? The game was released for only 3 months and Anet felt they had to add in a gear grind already?) I can’t imagine what will happen in a year from now.
2. Karma gear -to get one set of karma get you need atleast 240k karma. Yeah for the above avg. causal – to hardcore this is possible but for us casuals this is NOT possible in a reasonable amount of time.

And finally did they not state how this was directed towards everyday? People who simply do not have the time to put in 100s of hours into the game? The information given above tends to differ.
What I don’t understand and what the community in general is confused about is why this game was marked towards people who don’t like grind. Simple put, why not market it towards the people that love grind? (not saying that is bad but it is a completly different market)

The legendary weapon, Ascended gear and Karma Gears are things that I ignore for said reason… grinding. Grinding that involve doing monotonous activities for a said time until a goal is acquired. Yes Ive seen the requirement for those gears and I find them quite too much.

What I think is that the producers put some grinds for a certain crowd and not for the general audience as if they are trying to appeal to almost every kind of MMO crowd. I understand how the players that have this kind of grind as target can have fun but it has never ever called out to me. I think no one can denied that this game sure does have some grinding stuff. Its not my calling.

Are the Gw 1 Pvpers happy ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: SideStep.1347

SideStep.1347

Ive done a lot of PvP for GW 1 and for this one… its disappointing.

Theres no doubt there are major changes. It feels really weird when the opponents try to dance around you or tries to “sidestep”(get it?) to avoid skills and they get blown up anyhow.

Autotargetting is nonexistent in this game. You have manually move the camera in order for your character to look at them and cast its skill on them even if you have them as valid target for said skill. This does not happen in GW 1.

Minimap is practically, in my opinion, no reason to be there. In GW 1 it would show enemies on it so you can strategically coordinate an attack. Unfortunately in GW 2 no such thing happens. If you are random pvp with strangers, it makes it difficult to do anything strategically on the maps.

Melee combat, again in my opinion, needs a second look at. If your opponent is not a NPC, be prepared to get wrist pains as you need to move the mouse as the opponent likes to go around in circles. In the first guild wars I didnt had this kind of issue since having a valid target is all you needed for your character to cruisecontrol to the target and execute.

I think this game is not suited for PvP.

How to start the flame and frost story?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

SideStep.1347

Im going to take this chance and really let my soul out. Guys, in my opinion, informing the players about events are great but they are completely vague and much like the Traveler in GW1, is left to the the player interpretation of where and what is happening with this events and that is if those player really even bother to check the wiki or the forums for that matter of this locations and vague descriptions about them.

Most if not all emails im getting have broken links. So I dont know the details unless im at home launching the game or going to websites.

“New Living Story events have been added to Wayfarer Foothills and Diessa Plateau.”→ Those are big, and I do mean BIG places. Theres no quest counters for this story events, theres no quests listed with my characters and I have no idea where to look first. I wish for once when I get home or check my email to see an update for this game that it doesnt involve “cryptic” information.

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/releases/january-2013/” This website is an example of it. Theres not a single link in there to give you an exact detail of the changes and of the added quests.

“New Living Story events have been added to Wayfarer Foothills and Diessa Plateau.” Where exactly are this story events located in?

-Heralds-
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/update-notes-january-28-2013/?utm_source=client "…heralds will begin appearing in cities across Tyria. " Where exactly are they? How they look like? At least a picture would be nice.

“Persistent world content related to the story of the refugees has been added to Wayfarer Foothills, Diessa Plateau, the Black Citadel, and Hoelbrak.” Where/What and even if when are these contents? Do I get a marker for them?

You guys have to be less cryptic about this updates. Right now I dont even know where are these events located. I would like that when updates like these comes to spend more time in the game and less time skulking around websites.

Wish you all the best.

How do you keep crafting without it being a chore?

in Crafting

Posted by: SideStep.1347

SideStep.1347

Ive stopped crafting altogether.

The problem becomes at higher lvls of crafting when the only way to get exp to lvl up is to get Fine Crafting materials but in other to get those you have to get them a la old fashion way. Killing something over and over until you get a certain number of them. Farming for hours on end in certain areas becomes a must. And I dislike farming.

Other way is to buy from the TP, then again you need to farm gold to buy the necessary large amount of Fine Crafting Materials needed to craft to gain exp.

Crafting becomes interesting at the beginning but when demands for Fine Crafting Materials becomes higher, it doesnt go par with your character lvl, then you have to backtrack to farm low lvl Fine Crafting Materials to raise your crafting lvl to start crafting weapons, armors, etc. that goes with your character lvl.

I think the problem that makes crafting disciplines such a chore is the rarity of the Fine Crafting Materials and how much(in quantity) you need to gain exp when crafting. I dislike farming hours on hours.

How do you GW players keep crafting interesting without letting this hurdle detriment the experience?

-14k for one hit.
—Thats more than 50% of damage and theres no excuse for this.

-Autotargeting in Guild Wars 2 is flawed and Nerf.
—From GW1 to GW2 the autotargeting has taken a hit (nerfed) where your character can no longer follow your target.
—-Which brings me to this point…. MOVING THE MOUSE LIKE A MANIAC TO KEEP YOUR BACK SAFE! Which is really ridiculous on Anet’s part.

They should fix the autotargeting so thief can concentrate on target that are not autotargeting him/her like GW1.

And by god fix the huge damage they do without any effort.

SideStep.1347

Cant complete the game though since no one is doing the last dungeon and I dont have a guild so Im pretty much screwed, more on that later.

A)Dungeons
-Are not fun.
-No one is doing them.
—The problem I see in them are that too cheap for the CPU to wipe your party without much effort. Monster groups that are larger and tougher than yours, Insta kill traps, insta kill skills, party wipe skills, and general cheapness on part of the enemies and without effort to kill your party.

B)Skills and Traits
-Descriptions
-Too much bugged skills and traits
—Theres a lot of skills and traits that lack description. Most of these skills are wrongly worded and/or written. Take for Example:
[Toss Elixir B] (Toolbelt skill)
—Toss Elixir B to grant fury, might, retaliation, and swiftness.
What it actually does is “Toss Elixir B to grant fury, might, retaliation, or swiftness.”
Same goes with the traits. Theres Trairs that have cooldown but are not mentioned.
For example Hidden Flask: “Drink Elixir B at 75% health.” Havent measure the
cooldown yet.
—Most Traits dont affect Elite skills and some do but you have no idea which Traits do this.

C)WvW
-Cant enter Eternal Battlegrounds do to heavy queue. Have not even entered once.
-Only a minor percentage of players of the world in a server can participate in WvW.
-Repairing armor constantly. Im not going to buy gold, already paid full price for the game.
-WvW is much like GvG but with free entry.
—If you dont enter with a guild or group(that is, if all of your group and/or guild can enter due to heavy queue), theres not much to look at.
-Building War Machines needs a lot of silver and materials.
—All of the time Ive spent playing WvW without a guild/group, no one buys War Machines.
-Notifications on the map most of the time leads to a trap of zerg rush.
-You cant see enemies on the radar.
—Theres no way to tell the danger ahead on the notifications. Unlike GW1, enemies cant be seen on the radar.

D)PvP
-Cant say anything bad about pvp, its fast, if you win/lose you just keep on gaming, other than a lot of Engies, Mesmers and Guardians.

E)Story mode
-Voice acting is bad.

Ive read that Dungeons are getting farmed? Maybe that less than 1% of players on each server that are doing this, and the dev team gets notice on their stats when is the same players doing this.

Right now I get a lot fun out of sPvP and Story.
Unfortunately, I find WvW and Dungeons obsolete. Maybe its bad on my part that you can only do those mode with guilds since theres no players hanging around for them.

About classes

in PvP

Posted by: SideStep.1347

SideStep.1347

Yeah, Mesmers are a problem to kill thanks to the faulty auto targeting and Guardians…

I dont know where to start.

High Armor, Immobilize, Defense and AoE spells… I dont get it.

As far as Engi goes, I myself play Engi and much like Mesmers, we tend to pick the most annoying skills. Like The Net Turret and Rocket Turret with Explosive turret with the Elite Stun Skill Supply Crate with a Gun and Shield loadout (just look at the potions!), again all thanks to the faulty Auto Targeting.

And as Engi, the classes that give me most problems are the Guardian and Mesmer, I dont mind the other ones since you can perma disable them for a long time before they do any damage.

My recommendation to the community
Engi, Mesmer and Guardian are the best classes for sPvP.

Fix The AutoTargeting

in PvP

Posted by: SideStep.1347

SideStep.1347

Heres another info.

If you have someone on target, he/she wont attack the target unless your character is directly looking at it Which is weird cause in GW1 your character would do this automatically.

Another way to go around this is to play builds that attack your target indirectly, like for example, turret/mine engi.

(edited by SideStep.1347)

Fix The AutoTargeting

in PvP

Posted by: SideStep.1347

SideStep.1347

Everytime you have a foe on lock, the only way to keep auto attacking that foe is to move the camera.

If the foe is monkeying around, your character wont auto attack him unless you manually look at the position he/she is looking.

The only way I have found to go around this problem, while they fix it, is to keep pressing the “nearest for target” key before doing a skill.

A flaw that GW2 has… if you are any class and you want to avoid attacks, what the players seem to do (especially ranger with range weapons) is they get near your character and just start going around in circle.

I dont remember having this problem in GW 1.

Theres a lot of problems from the get go. If they can just rework the cheap deaths, intagibs, party swipe monster skills and fix the “pull a monster” strategy, it would be fun and actually enjoy the dungeons.

I believe as it stands now, it not worth anyone’s sweat. Get some skins in exchange for some frustrating time… I’ll pass. Lets hope they fix it.

John Peters stated that some dungeons are easy to do… they got to tell me which one. The only doable dungeons I’ve found so far is the lvl 30 and lvl 40 story dungeons ‘cause I would not get near their’s explorable mode with an ugly stick.

The difficulty in them are absurd. Insta gibs attacks to spawning infinite enemies out of thin air and ganking you, depending on luck or having a premonition to rely on luck to dodge them.

Traps insta gibs you… what the heck is up with that? The fading circles is clunky at best.

Oh yeah forgot, pulling enemies one by one to kill them? We are that afraid, we know that our skills (as a party) is not enough to hold it against 3 bosses that the developers had intended for us to fight at the same time? This is a problem.

Developers! If your intentions are to pull enemies one by one, make it so we fight them separately instead of spawning so many enemies at once or putting 3 or more bosses in one place.

Its 2012, we are way past that.

Tool Kit- Is it worth it?

It’s a decent kit and I have fun with it. The problem is that it’s a melee kit and since we can’t survive long in melee range, it loses much of its use. Maybe with a few more “gadget” skills in it I would spend more time using it.

The magnet skill has the red bar under it if you are out of range. The thing is that if you start casting in-range and then your target moves away before completing, it will miss.

Did not know about the red bar… oh my… why didnt I notice this before?

You can see the timing by watching the short timing circle flash it produces on the ground everytime it will give health.

Thats your cue.

As other have stated, as soon as you drop it, wait half a sec(I think is a second, trying to be precise) and destroy it. Insta Heal, regen and another heal for the water combo.

Why isn't there more GUILD VS GUILD pvp in this game?

I find WvW boring most of the time. Theres almost nothing to do (unless you want to empty your wallets creating warmachines) and its thanks to the guilds that are zerging it you find yourself being part of the WvW.

Have you seen the cost of those blueprints?!!

I Love WvW, hate item repair:(
