Here’s what I run:
Pretty much has higher stats in all areas except toughness. You’re giving up quite a bit of dmg with that much toughness. At least, that’s just my feeling.
You can get 80 emp frags in 45min running CoF 2x on 2 chars. Throw in a SE run and you’re at 100 in an hour.
Regardless, I do agree we need some normalization compared to bloodstone dust. I would like less dust and more of the other two.
Making another request for invite. Would love to join the party. Much appreciated.
Hello TTS! I would love to join you all on the battlefield to rid the world of these pesky flies!
Thanks all!
You want feedback to fixing your game?
1.) Extrinsic rewards need to be provided away from RNG/Gold. Your skinner box is really poorly designed, to many players are smashing that button down and getting nothing out, while only a couple are getting 800g precursors on the first push. This is ultimately frustrating, there is no way to work towards any cosmetic item in a ‘fun’ matter that doesn’t involve champ train or TP flipping.
2.) Precursor crafting should be pushed to highest priority, not last item on the list
3.) Real Quality of life changes: Dual Specialization, LFG Tool takes you to dungeon (no porting to map), WvW map viewable before going inside, Glory tradable for PvE items, UI for Mini (separate from bank), Achievement Meta rewards placed in the achievement item panel (why are players left with the ever increasing amounts of backitems they may be to scared to use because they only got 1), and account-bound WvW rank and FOTM levels.
4.) Fotm rewards are lacking after a player receives their back-item and rings.
5.) Reward vs. Time vs. Skill Charts, this is really lop sided, why is farming champs or TP flipping more rewarding than say arah p4, or 8 orb Liadari, or even fotm (your ‘end-game’ dungeon).
6.) Heading back to GW lore, the LS has gone way off base and most people can’t seem to follow the story as to what is happening. I’m pretty sure a lot of us still don’t understand who Scarlet is and why she does what she does.
This!!!
The wiki has all the documentation for the drop rates. They avg. around 33%. However, it will vary a lot, especially if you do the 10x recipe. I have ~225 clovers, so I know
Usually, when you want clovers you get t6 mats instead and when you want t6 mats, you get clovers. I’ve had runs where I wanted mats, did 10x x 10 recipes and got 50 clovers…those were sad days
Scarlet Invasions can get you ~20k karma if you hit up all the events.
Boosted or unboosted?
I think the only way to get ascended gear should be by running fractals. I also think that ascended gear should not have greater stats that exotics, this way WvW players and anyone else does not feel obligated to acquire these items to stay ‘on par’.
Agree, but will take it a step further. What they should have done is keep exotic BiS, but add infusion/upgrade slots. That way, fractal people could get their AR, PvE people could get their MF and Karma modifiers, and the WvW people could get their unique mods.
Unfortunately, it looks like the BLTC will be the sole factor in any and all decisions made by Anet. Can’t blame them now…they’ve seen the power of will we (players) have regarding what we’ll spend money on. I’m guilty…
If I simply replace the soldier armor for knights, my crit chance goes up by about 10%, but my power goes down by about 200. I don’t know the math behind comparing the two stats, but is the extra crit chance worth more from a dps perspective vs the higher power?
Hey all. Been running the same AH build for pretty much the past year (knights armor with soldier runes and mix of knights zerk jewels). Everything just feels weak and outdated. I want to do more dps, but still be a rock in group play.
So, looking for a solid build that still allows for situational swapping based on type of play. Here’s what I have:
Any thoughts? Is dropping soldier runes too selfish in group play?
Here’s a simple, somewhat cheap, powerful build. I don’t like builds that use a dozen different pieces/stats – it’s pointless and a nightmare to keep track of everything, especially when you have multiple sets.
Once again, full soldier’s should never be used in PvE.
This is close to full soldier’s and does very good dmg while also being a tank. The only thing a full zerk has over this is crit chance/dmg, but I’ll trade that for all the other benefits this build offers.
Well that’s your opinion, i find the weapon to be quite nice looking actually.
Yup, agree. I actually quite like wand. Spire, hammer, spear, and a few others look good as well.
We need a small vertical progression.
The Difference Between Medicine And Poison Is In The Dose.
Why did we need vertical progression? I didn’t realize this was an illness that I was suffering. I, and many other players, were perfectly “healthy” with the stats we had. Instead of supporting and institutionalizing the bad habits (e.g. farming), Anet should have focused on what activities (aka content) can the players grow into with their finely tuned (and healthy) characters…
I don’t need vertical progression to do the same old boring content. I want better content that challenges my ability to use the skills and stats that I currently have. It’s not that complicated.
Instead, they introduced another tier to create additional revenue opportunities for the BLTC.
Ummm, no. They were already nerfed when Scarlet events slowed down. Karma didn’t just get nerfed, it was put six feet underground. Let’s not take the same extreme approach to skill points…
Nope, Anet somehow decided that it would be a great decision to make you be stuck with a color based on the stat you place on the ascended.
Better than most weapons which only have a single colour option.
It might seem that way on the surface, but think about it a bit more deeply. Let’s say you absolutely love the look of T3 Asura culture items. You’re most likely going to build your armor fashion around the weapons. Now, with the current weapon system, if I want multiple weapon stat options I would just purchase the same skin with whatever stats I need. This means they all look the same and means I don’t have to change my armor design. Not a perfect system, but manageable.
With ascended weapons, if I want multiple versions I’m forced to have multiple colors. For many people, they will adjust their armor design to accommodate for this mechanic by choosing neutral dye colors like black and white, or they will have to constantly change their armor color when they change builds/weapons. Yes, there are people that don’t care and won’t do either…but this is a vanity game, right?
The new ascended system is more annoying than the current. It’s more cumbersome and not build friendly. Anet is either very ignorant to customer quality of life issues regarding player build flexibility or they made this decision to drive increased sales of fine transmutation stones….
I don’t see how its “more annoying”. The way I see it, its equally as annoying.
You want the look of a certain weapon but a different set of stats? Like, say, the look of the Legionnaire Greatsword with Berserker’s stats? You transmute the two together.
You want the look of one ascended weapon with the stats of the other? You transmute the two together.
The only difference is that the latter requires you to use 2 ascended weapons. Which is a little more time / resource intensive compared to certain options (including the above example), sure. But there are still other transmutation combinations which are even worse, like for example some of the weapons that require hundreds of Lodestones to create just to get the skin, so I don’t see how the way ascended weapons are set up is the end of the world and something that needs to be changed. Its no different than the way most of the other items in the game are set up, if you want X skin chances are you’re going to have to transmute it because you most likely won’t be able to get the stats you want.
Yes, you’re correct, if you wanted Infinite Light with two different stats you had to make two separate swords. However you also had access to many many other BiS swords to choose from they are considerably cheaper and that could be acquired through many different game activities.
Ascended weapons are now the new BiS and are severely controlled by how they are acquired. So now you have to jump through the gated aspects AND deal with same lame stat/color/skin mechanics.

One does not farm t6 mats. One buys them from farming other parts of the game and then buys what one needs…
If everyone did that for when they needed T6 mats then the actual supply would be lower. What you buy from the TP must have come from somewhere. Despite the occasional drop, I would not say that the all supplies on the TP could have come from more casual people who just happened to get it. There have to be at least some people who farm it them.
Just because there’s supply on the BLTP, it doesn’t mean they were specifically “farmed.” It’s just means they were acquired through other activities in the game (e.g. Champ farming).
Anet nerfed T6 mat farming a long time ago. If you really want to farm the mats, you certainly can do so; everyone knows who/what drops them. You can go farm grawl, barracuda, trolls, spiders, etc., but I guarantee you will not have much success. This is a fact and not my opinion. It’s the reason you never see people farming these places.
One does not farm t6 mats. One buys them from farming other parts of the game and then buys what one needs…
You can craft exotic weapons. You can get exotic weapons as a drop pretty much everywhere. You can craft ascended weapons. You can get ascended weapons as a drop from many places, but not as many as exotics. Problem?
Exotic = soul bound on equip
Ascended = account bound on acquire
Yes, there’s a problem. You can’t compare the two because of this fact alone. Ascended weapons are a Trojan horse to increase BLTP purchases of transmutation stones….
I also believe it will be backpacks because there are more crafting limitations on them compared to trinkets. Also, they already have them in the game at ascended level AND they already provide visual effects. Makes perfect sense to make legendary versions.
Question is, what profession(s) will craft them and what materials would be used.
This is by far my biggest issue with ascended weapons. If I want a specific color and want a different stat that doesn’t match the color, I have to craft two and transmute them. Would have been much better to allow users to select the color. I understand not allowing stat changes to set them apart from legendaries, but they could have at least allowed us to select our color combo. This is compounded if you have multiple builds using multiple versions of the same weapon.
My Ele has two sets of daggers and two staves. I’ll need to craft 12 ascended weapons just to get 6 weapons with the stat/color I need to match my armor….talk about lame mechanics.
For me, the most efficient way is to run CoF p1 and HotW each two times. This will give you 60 fragments in roughly 45 min. Then, I’ll see if people are porting others to pirate JP in LA. If so, that’s another 30+ for all my chars for 10min worth of time. So averaging around 60-90 each day with little effort and I’m also getting other useful rewards (gold, tokens, mob drops).
Running around getting open world chests just doesn’t feel efficient nor rewarding enough for me…
I have know idea what you’re talking about ilr. Just like Nike implied, I’m getting more rates doing invasions. And no, DR doesn’t kick in when you map all over Tyria to farm invasions. Seriously, are we playing the same game. People are farming invasions like mad and all I see in the chat windows are people pinging all the exotics/rares that drop.
And you’re denying that material prices spiked because of the recent announcement about next Tuesday’s update? There’s no tin-foil involved; it’sa fact people are hoarding everything right now. The base materials for crafting rare weapons increase, ectos will follow…they are tied to one another and share the same market reactions. Do I need to pull up the basic market numbers to prove this point? Seems unnecessary…
The reason ectos have risen is because no one is doing the world events. Everyone is farming the invasions where very few rares drop.
Sorry, but that’s completely false. Ectos are rising in price because everyone is speculating their use in the next update. I get way more rares farming invasions than world boss events.
They have also increased because the demand on rares for forging has increase due to the spike in precursor prices.
let’s make this constructive: what’s the highest price people think Genesis/Entropy/Shadow will reach?
Think you mean how low will they go. All of these weapons are permanently part of world champ chests. Just like final rest, they will continue to fall until they stabilize at a “normal” range. We haven’t reached that point yet because everyone stopped farming bosses to farm the invasions instead and it doesn’t look like the weapons are dropping as much (if at all) from the invasion champs. They may increase slight prior to next weeks update, but probably not enough to cover the tax.
just my opinion. Guess we’ll see.
I think there’s one each in the Orr maps, as well as in Frostgorge Sound. However, the location changes every day, so unless you scour the entire map every day you could easily miss it.
There are no rich ori nodes in Orr. Never have been.
The only place I’ve seen one outside of Karka Queen, is in Eternal Battle Grounds jumping puzzle.
Hey all. I’m very tempted to build the Quip for the visual effects. I have everything needed, but I need help making the decision.
Are there any good condition builds for WvW that use pistols? I don’t play a lot of Mesmer and very few of the builds on these forums use pistols….seems like Scepter/Torch is what everyone uses.
Nevertheless, I’m thinking of using a version of this build with the Perplexity runes:
Thoughts? Thanks.
Three weeks ago Dusk was around 675g and buy orders were 575-600g. I know because I sold one. Not much has changed. If anything, the avg price has been trending lower than what it’s been for the past month.
Regardless, prices for the rates, ectos, and ori have all been increasing, so it’s not like using the MF will somehow cost less. RNG is RNG. You could spend 10x the money gambling with the MF versus purchasing direct….or you could spend 1/10th the cost if you’re lucky.
Like others have said, terrible idea. Sorry, but this will never happen.
I had a couple destroyer lodestones and cores drop from mobs/bags in the area last night. Spent about 2 hours farming there. Nothing to rave about, but seeing how I’ve played 1000 hours and can count how many lodestones have dropped for me on one hand, this is a huge improvement for me
Agreed. The staff skins in this game are one of the worst designed collections of skins. It’s either go for Bifrost (assuming you’re into rainbows) or choose from a million different boring designs.

Patch Notes: (In the open world, dungeons, PvP, and WvW, the new effects-culling system will slowly start reducing the detail of each effect in order to increase combat visibility when many effect types are overlapping. )
This is the only thing listed that is remotely related to “graphics.” I too would love to understand how the graphics were improved from a visual quality perspective.
Use the x10 recipe if you want t6 mats and hope the rng gods work in your favor. If they do, then you can make a butt load of profit. Did 20 x10 and got really good drops. Couple lodestone, blood and scales and before I knew it…50g worth of Ecto turned into 100+g of t6 materials. Only go clovers 4 out of the 20 tries. Was a bit lucky. Did it another 5 tries and got 3 straight clovers…just how it goes.
Use the x1 recipe if all you want are clovers.
No. I was doing the 10x forging, and was getting too many Clovers, and too few T6. I think the Clover drop rates have been stealth buffed.
Did twenty “10 clover recipes” last night and got 40 covers. That’s 20%, so doesn’t feel buffed to me.
Do not waste your karma on those boxes in hopes of getting enough lodestones to make it worth the effort. Not only are they rare, but they’re rare BECAUSE its RNG.
Personally, I would wait until the next update. The whole lodestone aystem is broken and I would find it hard to believe they will not provide a more reliable way to work toward acquiring lodestones. Not to say it will be cheaper, but I believe they will remove the pure RNG aspect. They have already commented about future changes, so now it’s just a matter of how long do you wait…and I would wait a least one more week.
The digital deluxe was the biggest waste of money. I’m really annoyed that I was duped into buying two versions. The DD has zero in-game benefits. At least in GW1 you could sell the rare minis for in game value.
You can get them from mobs during Jormag.
They say you can also get precursors from the MF…
If you’re farming Jormag for corrupted lodestones….PLEASE STOP. You’re doing it wrong…(see comments above)
Stick with CoF. Not much else to say…unfortunately.
Remember that blog post just a while back saying there would be a new tier of resources that requires all resources tiers to create?
Notice how many resources shot up in price immediately following that post.
I’d say a large amount of player speculation had to do with it, along with the zephyr boxes of course.
This. People are hoarding t1-t6 mats because of the recent blog posts. Crafting will see in huge influx if they move forward with everything outlined in the post.
Awesome feedback LB. I’ll test some of your other sigil recommendations and how I might address condition removal. Generosity may just prove too valuable even at it’s current price.
Also, I know scaling on healing power sucks, but is there any reason to increase this stat or is it best to completely ignore?
(edited by Sir Erighan.9260)
Hey all. I’m new to s/d (used staff for about a year in WvW). It seems many of the s/d builds are using expensive equipment (e.g. Divinity). I want to start using s/d, but wanted to build something a bit more economical which will allow me to be more flexible versus feeling tied down because I just invested over 60g on Divinity runes.
I used LightningBlaze’s s/d build as a base and changed our the runes for orbs, and adjusted trinkets to compensate. I feel like this is fairly balanced with a focus on high dmg/crit/armor/health while sacrificing some healing power, condition dmg, boon duration, and swiftness.
Any thoughts on the overall build?
I’m still debating on the sigils…part of me wants Battle over Bloodlust, but just can’t seem to decide. Suggestions?
Hey all. Was playing around with different combinations that didn’t rely on Divinity runes. Here’s what I came up with:
Has a little more power/attack and health, but has a little less prec/crit and healing power. Thoughts?
The final tier 7 mats may be account bound for all new items, but it says that you have to craft lower materials to get them (which I’m betting are the normal mats we have for each of the crafting professions).
- Ascended armor and weapons will become available from rare drops and from crafting.
- Some precursors will be obtainable through crafting using a complex assortment of items.
- New accountbound tier 7 crafting materials. Limited amount can be made per day per character, created by combining lower tier materials.
Based on this info, I think all the mat prices will continue to rise.
Get about ~17k HP, 2100 Power, 3200 Attack, 2450 Armor, 35% Crit, 60% Crit Dmg
Just some advice: Play with your gear/food/stacks some.
Well, that’s constructive feedback. I, and I’m sure others, would love to know what optimal staff builds you run.
Like others have already said, some of you don’t understand the role of staff ele’s in wvw. And unlike the OP, I have seen and read through hundreds of pages that outline viable builds, strategy/tactics, etc. regarding use of staff in wvw. It’s about knowing when to use staff vs d/d vs s/d and also understanding your play style.
I prefer to run in larger groups, controlling zergs at choke points, sieging towers from below, speed boosting those mesmers that always fall behind, removing conditions from allies, spreading stability and other boons, and laying AoE all over the field. Not only do I provide support with staff, but I can also get “respectable” damage without dying every time someone pokes me with a stick.
I run with 0/0/25/25/20
Soldier Armor
Ogre Runes
Mix of Celestial/Berserker Ascended Trinkets
Get about ~17k HP, 2100 Power, 3200 Attack, 2450 Armor, 35% Crit, 60% Crit Dmg
With the build, I can also switch to d/d, tweak a few traits, and can run in smaller groups and still be an asset instead of a liability.
Staff has pro/cons. D/D has pros/cons. They are both good.
I like these builds because they balance well between staff and d/d, but I don’t know if spending 50+g on Divinity runes is worth the differences. Comparing these builds to the Ogre build the main difference is Ogre is +200ish power and Divinity is +200ish vitality. 19,000 HP is nice, but that’s starting to get into the “too tanky” range for me. Do you feel you’re getting enough dmg?
(edited by Sir Erighan.9260)
Ok, so working between two builds. Main difference is rune choice.
This one has 2x Monk, 2x Water, 2 Earth set and runs 0/0/25/25/20.

This one has 6x Ogre and runs 0/0/25/25/20 as well.

I like the +% boon benefit, but debating if it’s worth sacrificing dmg
Ogre pros: 162 power, +4% dmg,,3% crit dmg
Cons: -30% boon duration, -25 tough, -50 healing
Any thoughts? What about the general build? I know 25 in Earth and Water is not “standard,” but other than the minor traits in both lines that provide +dmg, I don’t feel there are worthy skills in the main Grandmaster line to justify the sacrifice in dmg. Might be thinking about it the wrong way, so let me know.
Thanks
Hello all.
I know the Ele has limitations and I know the QQing from everyone in the forums. Despite the Ele needing some love from Anet, that doesn’t change the fact that I love to play Ele in WvW…it just fits my playstyle.
So with that, I’m trying to build out my previous PvE build and make her a pure WvW char. Before investing tons of money in Runes/Sigils, I would like your thoughts.
I prefer staff for AoEs and CC in large zergs. I run with 10+ zergs about 75% of the time, but do find myself roaming in smaller groups as well. When roaming, I switch to D/D.
Can you please help find a build that works well for both staff and D/D. I don’t mind switching skills or trait slots, but I really HATE switching primary traits just for the sake of using staff or D/D.
Armor: Currently have 5x P/T/V and 1 P/T/C. Change or leave?
Runes: ???
Sigil: Fire? Air? Accuracy? Force? Other?
Here’s what I have cobbled together:
