I’m kinda confused by this..

When I initially bought the black wings, they were “plastic” and had like no physics at all.. but at some point, a patch made them actually move and flow.. no need to swap them. The existing wings got changed.

Unless you simply mean that you prefer the bird style wings over the angel style wings, but they look different on purpose.

I have been maining thief for 3 years, mostly WVW and sPVP. I decided to spend some time on other classes before the expansion hits, most notably my full zerker power necro.

I was shocked. I am absolutely decimating thieves in wvw and pvp. Granted they might not have been the world’s best thieves, but I only have 25 hours on necro and sometimes still fumble combos and keystrokes. I’ve only lost to one thief in a fair 1v1 and that was a condi dire perplexity thief and I didnt have Plague Signet equipped.
Sure, sometimes in a group fight a d/d burst jumps me for 15k backstab, that happens.

It makes me sad, they all rely on stealth to try and survive/burst, but it only helps them flee and reset. As soon as they show themselves they get wrecked by 6k 1200 range auto attacks, while their backstabs just chunk out my Shroud a bit. I truly felt sad when I managed to down 2 thieves at once inside their Refuge using only Shroud 4&5. Didn’t even have to target any of them.

I’m feeling more useful on a class I have 25 hours on than on my 3000 hour main.
Disgusting.

So how do you feel when fighting other thieves whilst playing your alts?

I also switched to Power Necro recently after maining thief since november of 3 yrs ago I believe? Thief just doesn’t cut it anymore and it’s on ANET.

The ONLY thing that gets my necro killed is immobilize.

Everything gets my thief killed unless I am extremely careful and spend a lot of time tap-dancing instead of doing damage.

Not looking good for thief man.

Personally, it’s not entirely the fact that Thief is “useless”. I think a large part of the problem is that the areas that were supposed to be the Thief’s “niche” are slowly being intruded upon by other professions – namely Mesmers.

I personally feel as though Thieves aren’t “horrible” by any stretch of imagination, but it seems to me that we’re losing our identity. I’m beginning to become confused as to what our actual place in the game is, is anyone else thinking this?

While we’re still extremely mobile, other classes offer more mobility. Okay, so we’re primarily a single target spike, but slowly and surely, Mesmers and Elementalists are beginning to offer the same level of single target spike damage Thieves are capable of – even Revenants are looking as though they might be a viable single target spike profession, with the level of isolation mechanics Shiro offers. Okay, well we still have our stealth – but that’s being kitten ’d as well, it’s “OP” people said. So it was stripped away from us, made to be less formidable. Now, other professions (again, namely Mesmers) are being given stealth that, in many situations, competes with what Thieves are capable of. Stealth was our one line of defense as well, and now that that’s been toned down, we’re much more susceptible to damage than any other profession in the game. We had very little condition cleansing available to us, and an extremely low health pool, meaning conditions are extremely lethal when used against us. Well, that’s okay – at least our condition cleansing (or lack thereof) is on par with Engineers, right? Well no, that’s changing as well with the introduction of Scrapper – the developers felt as though Engineers needed a more sustainable way to cleanse themselves of conditions – and here we are, sitting by the wayside.

Thieves are slowly losing their footing in every area of the game they were supposed to excel in, and being surpassed in other areas that were supposedly designed as “counter plays”; we just get to sit back and watch while areas of weakness are buffed within other professions so they’re able to remain competitive, while we get three dodges that lack functionality and sloppy-seconds for our elite specialization animations and the developers call it a day.

Thieves aren’t inherently horrible by design, but we’re losing our identity. We’re getting stale, while other professions are not only getting their rough edges smoothed out, but given utility that encroaches on the few aspects of the game we’re supposed to remain the “best” at to make up for any hint of survivability or sustain.

I second all of this and it is exactly what I have been feeling..

People cried about “perma-stealth” thief. They cried that it was a pain in the kitten to cap a tower or a keep, and have to find a “perma-stealth” thief who was hiding inside. Anet and everyone were SO adamant that perma-stealth thieves needed to go! They went, save for one annoying trap build that doesn’t really accomplish anything.

It started with classes getting anti-thief reveal skills. Congrats! Two classes each got an insta-cast, non-telegraphed very long EZ mode button to use against Shadow Arts thieves.

Fast forward to now! Welcome to the rise of perma-stealth mesmers! Forget that one annoying thief you have to find. Mesmers can now perma-stealth (arguably better than thief can) AND, not only can they be a pain in the kitten to find and kill when hiding in a tower/keep but they can port other people inside! What did thieves never get? A reveal ability! With more classes getting access to stealth, and some of those others having “anti-stealth” (started as “anti-thief”) skills, why do I not have a way of revealing an EZ mode PU garbage mesmer, or other thieves for that matter? The classes that have reveals aren’t even weak against thief.

I lost count of how many times my guild had to defend SMC the other day because after we wiped them inside, no matter how many mesmers we killed inside there was always another one perma-stealthing around ready to port more inside.

Crying about thief perma-stealth and giving mesmers a better version of perma stealth along with them simply being more useful at it is a disgusting display of a double-standard.

Then reading all the changes every patch (since forever). Every class gets so many synergy traits/abilities all rolled up into sweet trait combos. One of the only ones thief had that they needed was screwed over by some clowny kitten decision to move “master of deception” and require you to choose that OR condi clear when the whole point of those 2 traits was to synergize together. It’s almost like they purposely suppress thief from being on par with other classes for some reason. Look at other classes and all the multi-faceted abilities they have that apply like 4 or 5 different effects with one skill (looking at you again Berserker).

What needs to happen is, a dev needs to get with the thief community and actually hear what WE want AND WORK WITH US TO MAKE THEM HAPPEN. There’s a lot of quality of life changes they could make that would bring us on par with other classes that really have no reason to not exist/be implemented.

countless players are still crying about stealth after 3 years
all the QQ made out of thieves ranger pets basically
do we really need more stealth?

i personally would rather see more defense options outside of stealth and evade spam as well as more team support options

And to think, those people are obviously blind because Mesmer is the new Warrthiefsmer.

Thief stealth got even more nerfed by them screwing up the SA trait line.

So, how is Anet getting us out of this one?

Is that really a question? Do you know what would happen if the day before HoT release ANet was like :

- Pistol #1 damage increased by 5%
- Shortbow Ranged increased by 50
- Sword autoattack chain now completes 5% faster

The reason we get a new weapon is that every single class in the game gets one with the Elite spec.

LOL but this is exactly something I could see happening, because this is basically the same tone that you see in EVERY patch release that “balances” skills/classes.

No matter where one puts shadows embrace it will interfere with the selection of other key skills.

In the adept location it a must have for anyone needing condition cleanse meaning the other two skills will rarely be taken.

It the same if it slotted position two. Venom builds going the leech and Venomous aura route are compromised severely in their ability to cleanse conditions. So few would take leeching and fewer still shadow protector.

If it a GM trait Shadows rejuv , CIS and VA will be dropped on most builds. The reason is not because SE overly powerful. It because when one goes the SA route removing conditions is problematic. Yes one can use shadowstep as a utility coupled with the trickster trait but if one is going to go in and out of stealth it hard to go that route and give up the ability to cleanse conditions as one does so .

I am coming around to the conclusion that SE should be put In as the Minor grandmaster trait in place of resilience of Shadows. Resilience of shadows at 25 percent should replace Shadow protector .

Shadow protector then goes in at adept.
Last refuge remains in adept.
Concealed defeat with the lower cooldown on deceptions stays in adept.

I can see reason for taking any one of the three.

In Master

Shadows resilience
Leeching venom
Hidden thief

Good reason for any one of those.

Cloaked in Shadow

AS GM traits CIS just not there. I would add something more to CIS. Perhaps one stack of stability for 2 seconds. This stability would make CIS very much usable both blinding enemies on stealth and giving short immunities to the pulls and knockbacks that follow. While som ewill no doubt argue it “removes counters to stealth” it does come at the cost of the other two traits .

Good read. Appreciate the input! That actually makes a lot of sense and would totally work for me.

Though I still would petition to get rid of the smokescreen and revert “Concealed Defeat” back to “Master of Deception”.. I really don’t get the relevance of it at all.. It doesn’t “conceal”, blind doesn’t prevent stomping, you can’t self-blast it in downed state to give yourself stealth, and I’m not even sure if it blocks projectiles like the smokescreen skill does but that hardly matters because you’ll either get AOE bombed, melee trained out, or simply, stomped..

Does anyone else hate this trait? I searched and found no other topics on it which surprises me.

Honestly, I hate it more than last refuge.. Even more-so I hate it’s location in the trait tree.

In order to run all deception utilities now and run Master of Deception, not only do I now have an enormous beacon to mark where I go down, but I also don’t get condi clear anymore because I don’t get to take Shadow’s Embrace in conjunction with Master of Deception now (which synergized very well).. This was the point in running all deceptions. Not only did it round out solo viability vs condi spam but it was very good for team play.

Master of Deception should be it’s own trait again. Remove smokescreen-on-downed from it. It literally adds nothing.
The smokescreen-on-downed garbage should be tacked onto Last Refuge.
Shadow’s Embrace and Hidden Thief traits should switch places.

Killshot vs Daggerstorm?

So uh… can anyone verify this? Me and a guildmate of mine both had daggerstorm fail to reflect killshot a couple nights ago. It wasn’t lag or the beginning or tail end of daggerstorm either, it was like dead-middle.

Couldn’t find anything on this via google (just that it should have worked in the past), and the forum search I swear is broken because no matter what terms I search I get no results.

Heartseeker + Steal is still broken.

Dodges no longer cancel dagger storm, and you can’t use withdraw while dagger storming. The best way to do it now is to hit your stow weapon key.

Was this intended??? I didn’t see it on any of the patch notes.

so after messing around in pvp a bit more:
– HS + steal doesn’t work, constantly ports you back
- BP+HS + steal doesn’t work either, ports you back
- fun fact, if you try to use steal and then shadowstep, shadowstep actually doesn#t port you anywhere but on same spot………………
- the infamous immob bug (which forced you to die or /dance) wasn’t actually fixed, just got it in combination with mesmer dazes and sb 5
- dodge actually doesn’t dodge anything anymore, ate quite few attacks mid dodge today

at this point i think i have better luck winning lottery than getting 1 fight w/o something bugging out…

P.S. they actually fixed clocktower shadow shot thing :/

I’m at work at the moment so I can’t check this but I also believe that Withdraw doesn’t cancel Daggerstorm. Pretty sure it used to.. I’ve had to blow a dodge just to use Withdraw, and then sometimes I get stuck in a spinning animation.

If you are going stealth, you need a stun break. I suggest running shadow step and using that instead of heartseeker.

I appreciate the suggestion but it doesn’t have anything to do with stealth or stunbreaking. I do not run stealth on steal and I do run shadowstep as a utility.

Fact is this worked pre-patch and still doesn’t work post-patch (including the patch that “fixed” it).

Who.. does that? Really? Since when did thieves use HS+Steal, that’s.. no, you just didn’t. I don’t believe you. I’m trying so hard to not insult people who did this, but it’s really difficult.

Your opinion of a technique doesn’t change the fact that it’s broken. Also, no offense… really.. but nobody cares that you have urges to insult people who do such a technique.

Anet specifically referenced the bug where steal would glitch when using it with a movement skill. Supposedly it was patched, but it still does not work.

Steal: Fixed an issue in which thieves were unable to hit with this ability while using a movement skill.

Yup…

Ever since this new feature patch.

Heartseeker + Steal teleports you to the target, heartseeker hits, steal does not, and you get teleported backwards half the distance you traveled.

Shadowstep/steal etc. broken on stairs?

I don’t remember this being like this before, but lately if in WvW in a tower or a keep if you try to steal to someone who is on a stairway or try to shadowstep up said stairs, even if the ground target marker is green you will not move at all, and the skill/steal goes on cooldown.

Thought this used to work before until recently.

I play 95% wvw and it worked so well taking camps or when we roaming, blinding the melee guys while reflecting the casters…..and now its broken

I was one of those guys that just kept looking past all the nerfs on thief (1506hours/3119 total hours)… but now i had it.

For me it makes perfect sense… If you use blinding powder to save your butt but DS keeps going you will get revealed and probably killed.

Why not run offhand pistol and drop Black Powder and dagger storm in the smoke field for combo blinding bolts?

As far as I have experienced, it’s a bug. There is a period of time just before stealth ends where you can still “backstab” but since you de-stealth during the animation (before the damage is applied) you are no longer considered stealthed and you will get a non-crit backstab.

(EDIT) Basically this:

It is because Backstab has a cast time !

I used to see this all the time and was wondering wtf is going on…

If you wait until the last second that you are still in stealth the cast time will register you being out of stealth when the BS lands.. it is quite strange beacuse you still get the reveal debuff.. thus it has to be a bug

Either way I stopped using that trait because I usually maximize my time in stealth and wait till the last second to BS which caused this trait to bug out a lot..

I thought about using Lowerping but a guildy in WoW said he got warned for using it, I know it’s a different game but don’t want to risk it. I don’t like the idea of having to know what someone will do before they do it, at least not until I get better. Are any classes apart from warrior and guardian ok with 200 ping?

I had a month long issue with GW2 a while back with lag and I submitted a support ticket. Anet support specifically recommended I use a proxy program such as this, so you should be fine.

Can’t imagine why you’d get a warning in WoW either though because it’s not like having “normal” ping should be considered an “unfair advantage” lol.

You could use a game proxy (like Lowerping) to help get lower ping by rerouting your traffic to the game servers. That can help a LOT. Costs money though it’s really not much at all.

Lag can really screw up combos on thief.

I have a 4gb GTX 670 as well and I just installed the 337.88 last night. I played for about 3 hrs with no problem. I am using Win 7 x64 however, and 16gb of system RAM.

More slick and elegant weapon skins please!

Being a thief I agree with this 1000000%… The only daggers I can ever use in this game are Komalie’s Sacrificial Blade… Why? Because they actually look like daggers, not 1-handed swords being held upside-down.

Mistforged/lovestruck daggers looked very good, the only problem is of course whoever is doing the scaling on the dev side for some reason has a thing for obnoxiously oversizing them. I might as well use a frying pan instead of a dagger.

Seriously… Daggers should not be as long as your arm.. On my human thief, almost EVERY dagger, from point to end is as long as my arm from shoulder to fingertip.

Pistols are also oversized. Why do they all either look like overweight blunderbusses or one handed rifles? Look at the ascended pistols. I LOVE the design, but on my human, there is NO way my finger would actually reach the trigger because it is too far away. If they scaled them better they would look 100x better.

Bonetti’s Rapier, and Komalie’s Sacrificial Blade are 2 of the best looking/appropriately scaled weapons in the entire game.

Seriously, pass this along to whoever is making these skins: when you’re done sizing the weapons and decide you’ve done a good job please stop for a second, go back and reduce the size by 50% and then you are truly done.

So… I can’t find any current info on this other than what the wiki says but I asked around in game and people weren’t sure if this still works since updates..

Is there any way to still get the Heritage Armor skins? As in, can you still reach the NPC that is supposed to have the stuff?

If so… how the hell do you buy Guild Wars 1 anymore? All I have seen are used copies which surely won’t work because the key has been used..

Is it time to just sell them in the gem store?

Use valkyrie gear or mix soldier/zerk gear. Traits 2/6/6/0/0. Pick whatever major traits you want. Use Dagger/Pistol. Get used to initiative and learning not to blow it all spamming a bunch of skills. Once you get used to it you can use other weaponsets and experiment with other things. Once you find the groove with thief it will be easier to live with so little HP.

Playstyle is completely different from warrior so you just have to put up with failing miserably a million times until you get used to the feel.

(EDIT) also, I’m assuming you’re talking about WvW… if so, if you are not lvl 80 yet, you are going to have a tough time because you will get hit REALLY hard. I would suggest zerging in Edge of the Mists or following a map zerg in one of the BL’s to train XP. (make sure you have a shortbow with you).

No glowing effects? How should I fix this?

I think it’s either post-processing or reflections.. Now that I look closer I see what you mean..

I think you can try renaming your config file in the GuildWars2 folder in documents. It will default all your settings though, but it is worth a try. See if you can change back to “best appearance” once you do that and reload the game and see if it looks better.

Yeah, man. And this one time I was in WvW and tried doing the Konami Code, turned into Santa Clause and started sicking immortal reindeer on everybody. I killed the whole map, won the game, and got a trip to the Arenanet office as a reward where they paid me $1000,000.

7. Remove all traits and skills and anything else that increases damage when attacking from stealth.

The main issue I see is that unload is a channel that does pretty decent damage. Like other channels (volley and rapid fire) it makes sense to me that it can be interrupted.

ok, what’s weird is it’s letting you log into the forums so you must have a valid username (which is your email address – a lot of people make the mistake of using their display name as their account name and not their email address) and password.

If this were the case, why am I still unable to get past the launcher?

The pictures you posted don’t look legit to me; as in real Guild Wars 2 stuff.

I recommend that you don’t click the “recover account” link and enter anything. I’m not 100% sure, but I don’t believe that you can “recover” your account this way. Also, why would it want you to immediately “recover” your account if you enter an incorrect email and/or password? This just seems very fishy to me.

It is 100% legit. Open your launcher, type the wrong password and hit login and you will see the exact same screens as the OP posted.

This is an impossible question to answer. You play what you like..

The beauty of it is that you can play whichever character you want whenever, and since WvW ability points are account bound there’s no reason to NOT play both.

Both. I owned one as well, and returned it.

It was disappointing considering the extra money I had to shell out for NVidia, but I have yet to have an issue with any game.

Force/Fire on Dagger/Dagger and then offhand Pistol with Bloodlust (this way force is up on both sets). I only use D/P for gap-close/interrupt or blinding hammers.

I would go with the NVidia. I’ve seen too many graphical glitches with AMD’s latest cards and though I like AMD’s prices a LOT better, I’d rather not have the issues that others are having. Check the tech support forum here and you will see what issues I am talking about.

I went 5/6/3/0/0 with zerk gear (traveler runes) for a while but it is super risky. Fun though. I ran D/D with Sigil of Force and Fire, and an offhand pistol with Bloodlust to get the 25 stacks. I also have guard stacks from WvW abilities.

CnD+Steal+Mug +backstab combo is pretty good especially if sigil of fire procs.

No, no, and more no. It’s about adding counterplay for other classes and making stealth a clear strategy option as opposed to a mechanic to exploit at will. Offensive fields can be rolled through. Conditions can be cleansed.

And the reaction about the revealed state was particularly strong. Think of it as if it could actually be implemented:

The class stealths and makes the mistake of wading through a hostile fire field— stealth is ended and the character enters a 1-2 second revealed state. After that, stealth can be re-entered.

Or the thief gets hit with bleed/poison/torment— the thief can still stealth, however it’s broken on the next damage tick and enters a 1-2 second revealed state.

With such an aversion to my class, you act as if I’ve said to give all stealth abilities the same 10-sec ICD that our death shroud shares.

Again, it’s about offering counterplay options and limiting spamability/gankiness.

The thing is “wading through a hostile fire field” isn’t always a “mistake”. Most of the time you get it dropped on you.

Deathshroud gives you a rather generous buffer on top of your already high HP pool. It is a completely different mechanic.

You simply don’t understand how broken your suggestions would be.

While you life siphon, a thief would never be able to stealth. Talk about a hard-counter. Perhaps thief should be able to “steal” your life force when you enter deathshroud and instantly remove it.

Shadow Refuge would be useless because instead of needing to knock/fear the thief out of it all you would have to do is drop AOE on it or run around flailing wildly in it and poof… thief revealed. Instantly useless blown utility skill on a long cooldown. Stepping out of refuge before the field disappears already applies revealed so you’re turning a utility skill into a self applied death trap.. Nice.. no really, GG…

You want condition ticks to break stealth. Did you know that there is a trait that removes 1 condition every 3 seconds while in stealth? You just broke this trait because instead of staying stealthed and removing the condition, the condition instead breaks you out of stealth and doesn’t get removed. You would never be able to maintain the 3 seconds required for the trait to work.

I could continue, but bottom line is your stealth uptime would essentially be non existent while in combat. (which by the way breaks a bunch of thief weapon skills, and in turn breaks a bunch of thief builds).

So no, it isn’t “some counter-play”… There already is counter-play. What you want essentially gives you the win all the time. You know full well you could flat out faceroll, or out-sustain any thief easily if this was the way stealth worked.

Not possible unless the “revealed” state is completely done away with and I assure you nobody wants that.

Even then, so much of the class/skills/traits are reliant on stealth that you really can’t touch it without a complete overhaul.

IMO, any attack from stealth should apply revealed, whether it misses, is blocked, evaded, whatever. Even if you whiff at nothing but air – revealed.

Start there and let’s see how it balances things.

Then stealth uptime should have the time limit removed and you should only break stealth on attacking because if attacking breaks stealth this means that heartseeker or infiltrators arrow/return to gain distance or gap-close would remove stealth and it would be almost impossible to reposition while stealthed to either throw your opponent off or get away from anything. If we must be forced to walk through/away from everything to escape because all of our distance creating moves break stealth, then this would only be fair.

Thieves are already one of, if not the most unforgiving class when there is any amount of lag since they are very combo-based (I would assume ele is the other), so when lag happens and for example, backstab fires 2-3 times, you’d get revealed unintentionally and you would die.

And none of the “it would force thieves to use more skill” garbage… because go play a thief and realize how much skill it actually takes to be decent at it vs above average players (above average players do not die to heartseeker spam; likewise above average thieves do not spam heartseeker). Nerf after nerf thieves already have adapted and have one of the highest skill floors required.

And I disagree Sasajoe.. people are lazy nowadays. People would rather sit dead at boss events than WP and run back. People would rather have bosses nerfed so they can have GW2 alt-tabbed in the background while they read reddit and then get a reward chest with minimal effort. People do not want to learn how to combat a difficult-to-fight mechanic because it isn’t easy enough to counter. It isn’t stealth that’s overpowered, it’s not the developers doing a bad job, it’s that a lot of players won’t work to get to the level they need to get to to fight the mechanic effectively.

IMO the devs are doing a GREAT job filtering out the QQ for all classes otherwise we would end up with a boring nerf sword battle where everyone plays the same stick figure character with the same stats and skills.

I’ve had some good thief vs thief fights that could have ended either way. I routinely destroy thieves that are below my skill level in WvW with ease and I also get destroyed by thieves above my skill level in WvW daily.

Thieves have weaknesses and counters that get pointed out multiple times a day every day. There is no cause to break something to cater to whatever percentage of players just wants an easier time killing thieves.

It is purely evident when the Infusion of Shadows trait was nerfed. I was against it initially but now I don’t even run the trait anymore. People got what they wanted. People got what they wanted before that when assassin’s signet was changed among many other nerfs. Now what do they do? Now they complain about blinds, about initiative, about damage, and still about stealth. There will always be people that will pick something new to be unhappy about.

If they could just make it so it doesn’t shoot off in random directions or be out of range or obstructed when it shouldn’t then I would be happy.

Dunno lol… maybe he just told me that cause he didn’t know what else to do.. It was a rather exhaustive exchange between the both of us.

What you say makes sense, it’s just a shame that at the time there were other people having the same problem as me posting on the forums and they still I guess didn’t feel compelled to inquire about it. I don’t know… but it was frustrating as hell lol.

well sorry i should have quoted some random guy from earier above but my point actually was

that stealth while the biggest of issues is not the single problem with this game & its incompetent developers… how can blizzard make so much better AI & Skills (even plain logic & common sense dicate) & Anet cannot ???

It’s not a problem with the development, it’s a problem with the players. I can’t even begin to say how much entitlement people who play this game think they have.

“Refund me this/Nerf that so killing them is easier/Change this so I don’t have to meet these requirements to get this.” It’s getting old, expecially when people give advice and no matter how much you give nothing ever changes.

As a thief I have issues with a couple of particular builds on a couple other classes that I find very difficult to beat while they seemingly mow through groups of enemies, and sure I complain to my friends and on Teamspeak but I don’t go on those forums all day and ask for nerfs. I either don’t fight them, or when I do I expect to lose until I learn how to fight them better. I know I’m nowhere near the most skilled of thief players and I accept that.
