Turrets and eng bundles should have racial skins IMO. Planty sylvari, semi-magical asura, steampunk charr. Norn, idk, stick some runes or knotwork on them; there’ll be room since they’ll be extra-large. Humans can keep the base skins since they receive 10000x more attention for every other type of graphic in the game.

T1s are pretty forgiving honestly. You can just jump right in, say you’re new, invite advice, ask questions. T1 is the right place for you to be. You don’t even need AR before 20.

There are always impatient people, snobs, and jerks everywhere you go, but you can’t have anything more than a neutral interaction with those types even if you know everything and perform perfectly, so don’t worry about them. Reasonable people will understand T1 is for learning.

I’m very fond of the dredge boss’s dialogue at the end of the Molten Furnace fractal, before he comes down to fight. He’s all “uhhh, just gimme a- moment-”, awkwardly struggling with something while still hooked up to his intercom, and I just feel that awkwardness in my soul. He’s the kind of final boss I would be.

TA groups fill in LFG very quickly as well.

Put it this way: Ranger gets enough dev attention that it can deal top-tier DPS (as condi ranger) WITHOUT its elite spec active. How many other professions have a core build (with HoT gear, admittedly) that is meta? Not many. And druid remains untouchable for heals, as well; meanwhile rev is still in beta with only half an underwater skillset, and the only other healer, water tempest lags behind them both but remains god-emperor of DPS.

Templates for traits and the 5 utility skills is all I need. GW1 Templets didnt include armor and weapon and I never heard someone complaining. No idea why anet trys to make it so difficult.

GW1 had fewer armor slots, no trinkets, no backpack, no UW headgear or weapons.

Honestly dragging and dropping the second earring and ring is sort of the final straw for me, as you can double-click everything else. But the bulk of my complaint is the 16 pieces of gear I have to waste precious storage on, whether in bank or on character.

Great job on the newest dyes Anet!

Just think, there’s still room for even truer and brighter white dyes: Chaos, reducing the armor to a white negative space akin to the Chaos weapon set, and Nova, that just turns the entire character into a blinding white oval of light.

Frankly at this late date I would want templates to come with 16-slot gear storage per template. If a piece of gear is stored in a slot linked to a template, it gets equipped with the template. If a template’s gear storage does not include a specific piece of gear, whatever is currently equipped remains equipped.

Parts of the Illustrious skins look kind of nice – the very ornate detailing can be an interesting substitute for a plainer piece in an ensemble. I’m not at all interested in a whole Illustrious armor set on any character though.

The leg medium looks enough like the humble Arah dungeon token set that I frequently get confused by very old NPCs wearing the latter.

Cooldown on crafting Grandmaster Marks, why?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sister Saxifrage.7361

Sister Saxifrage.7361

The point of Marks is to be a better deal than direct crafting from scratch – which they are. They take half as many other mats as their standard counterparts, for a total savings of about 20g per weapon/armor piece. That discount is the reward for playing a game mode a lot – which is checked for by the other requirements like fractal pages/relics. (Also the random free drops of course – Marks are just a guaranteed way to get the specific item you want.)

Since we’re talking about wisp running: am I crazy, or do the mobs have weird AI regarding ranger pets? They relentlessly attack mine even when I put it on passive, stow it, and make it to a hiding rock – I can be on the rock, but once they start milling around my pet comes out and starts getting attacked. They will also attack it when it’s “dead”. This all keeps me in combat and makes it very very hard to run the wisps, which I’m not good at anyway. Is there some secret I’m missing?

What's your favorite fractal?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Sister Saxifrage.7361

Sister Saxifrage.7361

As a fairly new player (fractal scale 63), my favorites are Nightmare, Mai Trin, Volcanic, and Snowblind because they intimidated me the most when I started. But I’ve really learned them inside-out and feel like those are the ones I do best now. On the other hand, I absolutely loathe Chaos Isles for the fire section… because everybody calls a fire and then lights something else. And, a lot of times, I find myself sitting there striking the fire that I called over and over, but it won’t light (which I don’t get). People just love that.

It has to be in front of you, and you have to be facing it. Standing on, or near but not facing it directly, doesn’t count.

And for bad groups that don’t listen, just get 2. or try to reach 4 if you can. They’ll coordinate properly after a few failures.

…That’s all? ONLY a century?

It’s a little odd that Glint and the Forgotten felt the need to create wildly elaborate sacrificial ghost-robot thingies to guard the city, instead of, you know, just founding a colony of humans. Surely they could keep the faith for a piddly century. Especially if you gave them nice guns to use against the Mordrem.

Also, Glint didn’t trust humans to keep it together for 100 years of protecting an empty theme park, but DID entrust her precious babby egg directly into the hands of the Zephyrites?

Tweaking meta builds for open world?

in Elementalist

Sister Saxifrage.7361

Ele is not my main, and of my alts it’s actually one of the professions I struggle with most. It just feels SO fragile.

I don’t really want to reinvent the wheel with my alts so I generally just look up meta builds and try to follow them as best I can on my own, and that works okay most of the time, but not for ele. I even switched to viper because the rotation looked so simple – and it is, but said rotation is pure DPS, which doesn’t work so well when you’re soloing and taking all the aggro yourself. I can’t even do the berry loop without killing a good 10% of the mobs via burn ticks while downed.

Using the fire viper meta build as a starting point, what are your best/simplest tips, tricks, and modifications to have more survivability?

Sister Saxifrage.7361

While anything DOES work in open world, most people would like to at least start with a build with some kind of track record and that would see them be wanted in a group setting once they’ve mastered it. Even if they then modify it to their liking.

For example, I like the basic meta condi ranger: shortbow, axe/torch, and traps, and I keep Quick Draw to practice my rotation. But instead of Beastmastery, for open world I like to take Druid 133, mostly for that sweet, sweet Natural Stride.

I almost never see a 100CM post without the “pots/food/exp” requirement, and often requiring the title as well. But none of these things are any guarantee of being what the group really wants, which is 5 flawless robots for a speed run – more specifically, each person in the group is hoping the other 4 are flawless robots. When the players are inevitably outed to each other as fallible human beings instead, recriminations ramp up until the group falls apart. Then you see 2-3 new LFG postings with even more requirements than before: “100CM pots/food/title/exp” plus “don’t be a scrub plz”, “condi only”, “meta builds only”, and “must have leg armor” are all tags I’ve personally seen in the T4 LFG.

I only completed 100CM in PUGs 3 times before I decided not to subject myself to that environment anymore (and I’m sure they were happy to see me go). Now I only run it with guildies; even when we’re bad, at least we’re having fun instead of hating on each other.

Also, I think the reason they drop slowly is because there’s almost nothing to spend them on. A ring, an amulet, and a back piece are the only things.

It’s because those three are the best three in the game, de facto legendaries (stat switch any time for 100 UM).

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Sister Saxifrage.7361

I wish that someone would make a “dodge meter” that would track mechanics you should have reacted to appropriately and didn’t. Probably make for a lot more success than the current DPS-only state of affairs. Unfortunately I can’t imagine that kind of information is even easily trackable, let alone TOS-compliant. But I for one would have way more use for “stop standing in the fire!” alerts and “what kind of fire did I stand in to die that time?” reports than “here’s how close you came to matching a golem test (before you missed a dodge and died and wiped your group).”

I would like swamp better if there weren’t bugs with my pet in the first phase: the mobs follow a different logic from all other mobs, and relentlessly attack my pet even if it’s on passive, stowed, on the hiding rock, or “dead”. Which keeps me in combat. Which makes it really hard to run the wisps. I’ve taken to telling PUGs this and going straight for the speed gun to help the farthest runner instead. I like the Bloom encounter though; I like how it’s challenging, yet gives great rewards for even modest improvements in skill.

Also nightmare, as everyone has said. I rarely PUG 100CM, but its existence means the t4 playerbase is generally overtuned for normal mode, so when it comes up as a daily we smash those snakes (and robot) like dollar store loot pinatas. I adore the MAMA music as well.

New Infinite Tools, why not separately?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sister Saxifrage.7361

Sister Saxifrage.7361

They should have created a basic “Unlimited Tool” for each type that had a medium cost attached to it.

Then they should have sold the skins (and the affiliated animations) separately allowing your basic “Unlimited Tool” to become any of the new tools as you desire (just like buying an outfit).

Finally, they should have added an “enrichment slot” to gathering tools that gives you a % chance to obtain a specific bonus item (sprockets, Azurite, UM, snowflakes, etc.) when it is equipped in a gathering tool. Unlimited versions of these enrichments could then ALSO be sold on the gem store.

This system would have not only permitted players to have significant control over their customization and convenience, but would have resulting in MORE gemstore revenue for ArenaNet.

Fully agreed.
