Seriously. Literally every season I’d had someone dc on my team and lost the game. WHY does it count as a placement match?!? What kind of inconsistency is this? A dc doesn’t affect your rating so why does it affect your placement, which is much more important?

Soulbeast is awesome. SO MUCH SYNERGY with core ranger it’s just amazing; opposite of druid when it came out. That was random as hell and couldn’t seem to work with anything. Soulbeast fits right in. Of course, it needs a little work, but kitten . I’m impressed. Good kittening job.

On a side note though, letting us swap pets while in soulbeast would make it feel much smoother….but I feel that might be too OP. I’ll leave that to the devs.

No matter what, people will complain. Today they complain that we have a stale meta. When expansion comes out, they’ll complain that everything’s unbalanced.

Can’t you just not complain and enjoy the game? I like how the meta is balanced currently. But I’m also pretty excited to see what’ll be OP on release and wreck some plebs with a super OP build; that’s always been fun.

But really, with major updates comes imbalance. That will always be a given. Expect it, and exploit it till Anet takes it away and rebalances the game. It’s always fun to exploit.

Druid:

- nerf druidic clarity, imo a full condi clear PLUS stun break is too overpowered

im fine with it being a stun break, but it should only remove like 4 condis at max, not all 13 in this game

the thing is, in a 1-1 a druid can just outsustain every dps class and their weakness are condis, BUT any decent player can kite around for 15 secs till he can basically press the reset button, clear everything and heal himself full in less than 3 seconds, then proceed to stealth and disengage to a safe distance and re-engage with full HP….rinse and repeat

oh and where we are at it, i think that pet damage should get nerfed in general and druid damage should be increased, that way the druid need to actually do something and not let the pet do all the work, simply survive 15secs till he can full reset and kite on spots where e.g. thiefs that want to +1 cant steal him

How is druidic clarity OP when guards can turn ALL 13 conditions to boons on 32 second CD?

Hows it OP when necros can transfer ALL 13 conditions to their foes?

Druidic clarity is the only reliable condi cleanse that druids have. Nerf it and we’ll get kittened.
Neither pet nor druid damage needs to be nerfed or buffed. Druids are currently locked into Menders amulet since we depend on our healing for survivability. Because of that, our pets do lots of damage for us since we can’t do much ourselves. A nerf to pets without providing more build diversity/damage will kill druid. Thus far, pet damage has been nerfed in every patch since the launch of HoT. You want more?

Maybe it is a problem that he’s multiclass. Maybe it isn’t.

Either way, you’re blaming the system for you losing which is just illogical.
You got unlucky and went on a loss streak. Maybe your continued losses are making you play worse. Maybe they’re not; doesn’t matter. You just have to power through and try to carry your team.

Keep in mind carrying is not just about skill. It’s about proper communication, not kitten talking your teammates, and not going afk and crying if it’s 300-100 because it’s still very possible to come back.

It happens. It’s happened to me a lot. With every loss play harder, play better, and you’ll get out of the loss streak. Keep wallowing in losing and you’ll keep losing.

Viable in WvW

In PvP, it’s useless. You’re better off playing a thief or something with real damage. Best ranger builds are shoutbow and bunker off metabattle atm.

I say this having tried out the zerker build for an entire PvP season. Trust me, it won’t work. You can’t carry with that build. I was in the top 250 last season and currently in the top 50 with the metabattle build.

The system tries to predict if you win or not. If you win, great, little gain because you are in the place you are supposed to be in, if you lose, well, system predicted you should be able to win, down a notch.

That’s how matchmaking is supposed to work, pinpoint you as best as possible with the variety of possibilities in mind.
Oh, wait, wait, you guys want to go up up up no matter what right?
So you don’t want matchmaking, you want a reward progression, great you have your reward tracks and the chests for the league.

You buffoon.

That is not at all the point of this post. Of course I understand why it works. The whole point is why on earth would I even get paired with players so below my MMR that I only gain 2 for winning?!

If any ranger is complaining about pets, then they don’t know how to use the mechanic properly. Pets are ranger’s greatest strength. Even the non-HoT pets are extremely useful when used properly. I would argue that the only instances in which pets may not be as useful are in raids. They’re useful even in fractals as they help you survive if you ever find yourself alone.

Currently bouncing around btwn top 25-50 NA. Druid only. Basically run shoutbow with gs instead of longbow.

In EU I’m floating around 150-250 atm on my alt account, soloQ only as a core ranger, f2p account.

Recently bought a 4k monitor, and I freaking love it. However…the GW2 interface is pretty small at this resolution. There really should be an option above “Larger” for the interface size. Even that size is small when playing in 4k. Can’t see it being that difficult to add seeing as though you can already change the interface size. Please address this Anet!

Ranger Kicked Out of Meta

According to metabattle, the ranger is no longer meta in PvP.

Of course, I always take metabattle with a grain of salt…I usually run variant versions of their builds anyway.

BUT

I’ve been in PvP for a couple years now and I usually find that metabattle is accurate. When ranger wasn’t meta (pre-HOT), it really wasn’t. I still played ranger though. However, when HOT came out, it was like easy-mode ranger, and, for the first time, ranger was meta. I’ve been pretty happy since. And, honestly, I felt like S5/6 were the most balanced overall.

Now I am by no means saying that metabattle is infallible. But, to me, this is a pretty bad sign.

Now we have 7/9 classes listed as meta instead of 8/9. Where’s the balance?

Didn’t mean for this to be a kitten-talking thread or one in which we complain about the game. Just wanted to give a suggestion.

I’m not on GW2 forums often so I guess I was never familiar with how toxic of an environment it is….honestly just expected people to either voice their support or opposition to my suggestion. Guess I’m just used to Runescape forums…you guys should learn from them. Pretty friendly environment.

I’m close to top 100 and am in T3 gold (edging on to platinum). I’ve noticed that early games have much less of an effect in terms of rank points than they did last season. I think this has a lot to do with the way they changed the decay system and whatnot.

Regardless, this is not a population issue. It’s just harder to get to platinum (and legendary) this season than it was last season. Essentially, S6 Gold does not equal S5 Gold.

You don’t need special bonuses. Just nerf mistake-friendly elite specs and then good players can carry on their own ability. The current problem is that elite specs are too forgiving of spam (bad skill timing) and have a lot of auto defenses or just plain spammable defenses.

It’s hard to carry when you get someone down to 25% and they heal to full in a couple seconds while having a damage amulet.

Class balance isn’t really a problem I’ve noticed this season.

Regardless, the devs take care of balance anyway. I’m talking about a whole new mechanic. To be honest, I think it would help PvP more in the fun department than carry ability.

Shouldn’t we buff sub-paar players instead, to try boost their performance? It just doesn’t seem fair to empower people who are already getting kill counts in a match.

I think that such a mechanic would only encourage players to be sub-paar, whereas buffing players that carry their teams would encourage players to carry.

PVP is a team game, and should be as strong as its weakest link. Rather than encouraging solo heroes, the focus should instead be on teaching people how to play – aka when and how to fight effectively. What we shouldn’t be doing is outright destroying overaggressive newbies (because, in all likelihood, that’s probably who you’re going to kill to achieve this “carry” buff).

The point of this is to help players in ranked games, in which case, there are almost never new players. I don’t see the issue here.

Just had a random thought. It would be kind of cool if a player received individual buffs for performing things that “carry” a team. Maybe this can kind of be profession-based…

There is no algorithm that measures in-game individual player skill. There’s nothing that’s remotely close to it.

  • Kills off point does nothing for his team, in a game mode based on Node rotations and focus targeting bursts.
  • Just standing on a node at Home or Far does nothing when the enemy team of 5 is zerging between the other two nodes.
  • Measuring kills does nothing if you’re a Necro who’s better off cleaving the downs.
  • It goes on and on…

If there were a set algorithm that actually measures individual skill, it would be implemented already. The only thing we have that comes darn near close, is a League worth of PvP games. And that’s because a players “true” mmr shows after, literally, playing 50+ games minimum for a season. Yet 250 games is a more realistic number for a darn near accurate individual player skill. It’s why Anet is continually looking at matchmaking, to an extent. (it needs to be better just saying guys )

I don’t think there would have to be any complex algorithm for such a thing. For example, if you are contesting a node in a 1v1 and happen to win that 1v1, then you can get such a buff.

Another example would be contesting a node in a 2v1 and staying alive for a set amount of time— say, 2 minutes.

Of course these are very specific situations but I think Anet could come up with a few more.

It could possibly be something as simple as this: after a certain number of kills, the player can get an ability similar to Overwatch’s “ultimate ability”. Or, perhaps, it can be a simple (temporary) buff to your stats.

Regardless, such a buff/ability based on your individual performance in the game can increase the individual’s “carry ability” in these 5v5 PvP games.

Essentially, I thought of this because it really is difficult to carry in a 5v5, especially when matchmaking places you with people hundreds of rank points below you. Such a mechanic would make it slightly easier, and add an element of fun/excitement to PvP. Nothing happens when the text comes up “____ is on a rampage!” What if something did happen?

Additionally, introducing a combat mechanic that is unique to PvP may help bring in new players. I think it will certainly make PvP seem more attractive.

PvP is fine. I enjoy this season better than last season; it feels much more competitive now because people can’t abuse the decay system and/or start the season late to sneak into the top 250.

Population is a little low, yes, but I think that’s mainly due to a lack of rewards. Anet should have kept the ability to buy full asc using PvP only. Definitely shouldn’t have reduced the rewards. No one gave a kitten about ESL so that’s not a problem. PvP is difficult and HoT makes it more difficult but it is well-balanced if you’re actually good. If you’re not, learn the kitten game. Unranked exists for a reason.

Why would you ever get rid of pets? Once you learn to play with a build, and really get the timings right, pets can be very effective. Yes, pets are laggy and there’s a huge delay for their F2; it’s annoying as hell to use. BUT you can learn to play with the pets’ problems. That’s what makes a good ranger. We are the only class that has an NPC CONSISTENLY fighting along with us, and we can control that NPC. Learn to control it and you’ll hardly ever lose to a 1v1. Should Anet fix pets? Yes. Remove them? Hell no. I don’t wanna be another DH.

Notice a pattern? In ALL THREE GAME MODES our only “viable” builds involves our roll as support. Supporting others damage because we can’t deal damage ourselves. Supporting others survival because we can’t survive ourselves. Supporting our pets and focusing on surviving because we can’t reliably build towards just killing the kitten.

Obviously this is from my own experience. And ill admit the last month has been more frustrating than many in attempting to adapt by playstyle to the metas of all 3 game modes. But I thought id put for the issues as I saw them.

THIS. Exactly this. PVE wise I basically never play on my ranger anymore. So sick of being support/heal Druid, I only play on my ele now. In PVP I play DH now cuz they’re a way more viable longbow build than power ranger. Like really?! Guardians should not be better than rangers with a longbow.

Sad thing is pre-HOT I had just gotten full ascended zerk gear for my ranger and that’s literally useless now.

Core Ranger is inferior to druid even when it comes to damage.

I often play the role of DPS booster and not the healer. But sacrificing the option of AoE +15% for … I don’t even know which traitline is not favorable.

You don’t have to heal just because you picked Druid Traitline. The DPS boost of Druid is roughly 38,5% for your party statistically. All in unique modifiers and effects unlike might or fury.

There’s no reason why not to pick druid. For offensive of defensive support.

Is power ranger viable in Raids? By power ranger I mean the traditional longbow/greatsword, and by raids I’m referring to VG (for now)

I wanted to start playing raids but all my ascended gear/trinkets are zerker plus I don’t particularly enjoy playing druid either. Will pugs even accept a power ranger on their team?

Man, I always get wrecked by Mesmers. I can kill any other profession, but by far the hardest for me is Mesmer. Any tips on that? I use a lb/gs burst build. The problem is every time i burst with rapid fire they either vanish or reflect. Recently, it’s been harder too…idk if they buffed Mes or I’ve just been sucking more.

Title says it all. I generally only play as a ranger, but I especially started noticing this when I was playing sPVP: pets are horribly unresponsive. Half the time, the pet’s special move wont even work and I have to spam their special move to get it to work. Even then, by then it’s too late and I’m already down half my health. It’s been bothering me so much. Why not make pets work like all skills and have them listen to you immediately?

I have a Mac and on bootcamp Guild wars 2 runs on high settings with 40-60 fps. Granted, I have the 15 inch mbpr, but I still think you should be able to get decent fps on low settings on a macbook air via bootcamp.

If you’re really going with the PC thing, build your own pc. It’s a lot more fun and much less expensive.
